I guess this is me the whole time. Yeah, I
have been enjoying the World Cup and when people go
soccer's boring. I can agree a little, but I go, yeah,
but baseball sucks too, and I like baseball. If you

game came on, we wait all this time? Yeah, pitch,

watching it. That being said, I was watching that Germany
game and they go and they take penalty kicks and
Germany ends up losing. This has been a bit, but
the note I made is after the game, and after
Germany loses, they went to multiple players to take those

don't want to do it. And the guy who finally
took the last penalty kick, who ended up getting blocked
or missing maybe he went over he was like, yeah,

I was in shock that these professional players playing for
their own country turned down taking penalty kicks because of

of the season himself. And if it's a Zubots before
the version of it, if it's a Zubots, that could
garner a return of Godfather return that the Clippers got
this past February. And then people who may recall Paul

months to that season. They still that team still won
forty two games and still should have clinched the playoffs spot.

They flunked the play touring in and so Toronto lou
is arguably the Clippers' best asset. He's been treated as such,
and he's going to work with two guys who he
should have a great familiar with, especially Garland being that
he played March in April for the Clippers, and with
Brandon Ingram, you're not replacing Kawhi Leonard. But if you

wanted to get a guy who is along those lines
in terms of how they using the spots they like
to get to, then yeah, you're you're knocking you You're
going down a tire. The same thing with Harden as
far as moving on from him and having Garland. But
you can have a good offense if those two guys
are playing a respectable amount of minutes together and respect

amount of games together. It's about filling out everything else
as far as your depth, as far as how you
are trying to defend, as far as your identity, and
it's it's it's July sixth I think that the Clippers
are going to need these three months to figure things
out in that regard so that you don't have to
play basketball game tomorrow. And with that in mind, I

think over the next three weeks you will see another
piece added to the Clippers. Who and how that piece
gets to the Clippers that is that is why we're

you'll hopefully ever see. So I'm not treating Lebron James
as a legitimate option for the Clippers. I will say
that basketball wise and logistics wise, it makes a ton
of sense. It just doesn't make sense for Lebron's quote
unquote story that he's going to want to be bolstering.

Kawi had one year left on his deal, so they
tried him to the Raptors. Why would they trade him.

Because you have to max max out. That's that's pretty
much shit. I mean with Kawhi, it's like, are you
going to commit to any kind of contract with him,

sound like the Clippers were really trying to do that.
But you also have to determine this who where does

Kawhi want to go in terms of where he could
get paid as well? Is there a match there and
do you have the time to make something worth it.
I mean, they got a pretty damn good return from
a draft capital perspective. When I look at the player perspective,

brandon Ingram being a decent return for Kawhi Leonard, But
how many players are there in the league in that regard.

Make it better for yourself as a franchise trading a
player like Kawhi is if you get the draft return
that is consummate. I don't think they got that in
the James Harden trade. They wind up getting a sex

player assets as well as When you talk about Benedict
Matthurns restricted free.

I think I would have been fine if the Clippers
would have just kept Kawhi and started the season with him,
revisited things in mid season. But you don't have to
go too far. Look at what happened with Jimmy Butler

an ideal time to part with a star like this.

I think the Clippers did okay. I don't think they
did great, but I think they did okay, and I

Do you think that the success of Wemby has created

get and let's pay them more than they would have

so we can have a shot to stop Wemby. And
mostly I talk about Walker Kesler, who didn't play much
last year with the Utah, but here he is signing

a massive four year deal. Do you think Wemby actually
affected that?

I mean Victor win Benyama is really good. You know,
it's ironic about Victor Wombanyama. He doesn't really want to
be a center, especially offensively. I think Wemby is a
transcendent talent defensively. Offensively, he does things that no other
guys can do, but he doesn't necessarily do them consistently.
You know, there's a higher ceiling for him to get to,

and honestly a higher floor. And so all these teams
talking about how they need their centers, and these centers
tend to be guys who have a greater impact on
the game defensively. I mean, okay, like the New York
Knicks had Karl Anthony Towns, a guy that I'm not
sure how much they're committed to cat long term, right,

And they did a good job defending the San Antonio Spurs,
and by the end of the Finals, they kept attacking
Wemby like he was just another dude. You know, I
think these teams are going to talk about the center
position because they're excited to talk about Wenby, and that's
the one way to talk about him. I'm not even
kidding when I say that. So, like you need to

build a good team, I think that's always how it's
been people. I can I can give you an example
about Nicola Jokic and his ascent to MV you know,
annual MVP candidate, and they're like, I saw a team
that was like, yeah, we're not even going to try
to bolster our center depth. We're going to do it
another way, and like create a team full of wings.

I might be I might not be doing the best
job of hiding who that team is. So like that,
there's always this approach of, oh, cancel centers completely, or
you don't need centers, it doesn't matter anyway. And now
you're in an era of get every center you can
because Wenby is here. It's like, NA, just build the

best team that fits that what you have. And as
far as Walker Kesler is concerned, Walker Kessler's impact is
going to be on defense, and I think Walker Kessler
is going to be someone who addresses a huge issue
for the Lakers last year as far as their rent protection.
But the Lakers are two rent protection issues. They didn't

have great reprotection from their centers, but they had the
worst rent protection in the league. I would say outside
of their centers. Walker Kessler is a very good room protector,
and he alone is not going to save the Lakers
if their secondary rent protection remains. Guys like Luca Danti
and Jakelarrabia. I'm just going to leave it at that.

John Morant going west like also just him and Dame together,

five season, they started great, and as usual with the
Memphis Kerzlies, they ended poorly, still made the playoffs, and
then this fast season where I don't think Job played
a single game after January. It's like, Jaw needs to
be healthy. I think that's my main thing. I'm not
worrying about Job Morant and his behavior off the floor

or what the locker room is looking like.

I think Job being healthy that's where it's got to start.

Now the Blazers are putting together an incredibly weird team,
which is on brand for that city. But I think
you have to consider this. Damian Lillard is not the
Damian who ended teams seasons in the playoffs in the
twenty tens. He's a guy who is in his mid
thirties coming off of one of the more devastating injuries
you can have, especially when you're a small guard, and

I think there is a case of insurance there at
that position. I just feel like they're best players Daniavvia
and anything that takes the ball out of his hands
more than it needs to be is going to be
a little challenging. And we'll see how Mike and Nory
makes all of this work. But I have a feeling
that Portland has at least one guard to offload. I'd

be looking at Drew Holliday, a guy who is as
old as Dame, a guy who is very good, very productive,
but doesn't fit any kind of future with that team.
There's a logjam there, and I'd be interested to see
where he goes to you next.

Jalen Brown going to Philadelphia. Obviously he wasn't going to
stay in Boston, at least from everything that I was
writing or people that I was talking to and a
lot of people got upset about that, saying they only
got Paul George a couple first, a couple of seconds.
But to me, I would love for you to contradict
what I'm saying. I feel like, if anything, it was

mostly a salary dump as well so they can make
another move. That was a massive salary they were paying him,
and if they knew he wasn't going to stay, they
needed to offload that because I think Paul George is
what maybe one year left. What are your thoughts on
that trade?

My thoughts on the trade, It was just a ridiculous
situation as far as the relationship breakdown. I feel like
Jalen Brown enjoyed the individual season he had and the
team exceeded expectations, but they also humiliated themselves in the
process of blowing the three one lead to a team
that they enjoyed beating year after year as they were

building this era with Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, and
I just feel like there was some fatigue there when
it comes to their contracts. It's like Boston paid him
this contract. Yeah, he's got three years left on a
pretty significant deal, and you know, with Jason Tatum ideally
coming back again. We're talking about a guy tours Achilles Tendon.

We got to see what that looks like for him
over the course of a full season. We're talking about
Paul George, a player who again I covered for years.

I don't think their ability and.

Availability is what you use to describe Paul George as
far as assets and positive traits at this point of
his career, But I do think there was some significance
to how the team might have felt about how good
they were when Jaylen Brown didn't play.

Thinking can you build a team that can be better
than that? Because they clearly weren't good enough in the
playoffs to close out one series. Can you build a

they do great things with Jalleen Brown. Absolutely. The relationship

I felt like was a bigger factor than the contract.
I feel like they were like, we don't need this
to be a problem when we already feel like you
can over time build a team that can win games
and possibly be a little deeper, a little bit better
than you had with Jalen Brown making the same money

It's not like Jaylen Brown was upending free agent like this,
dude's not going to be a free agent and for
another three seasons in the NBA. Now that's a that's
a very long time. And so to me, it was
more like I felt like the Celtics were like, we're stuck.
We need to make this move, and we think that
over time there will be a chance to enhance and

Penalty kicks are happening for the most part, and to me,
soccer still kind of boring. But baseball is also boring,
and I like baseball, so it's just what you grew
up with me not watching a lot of soccer. All right,
shoot it, shoot it, shoot it. Oh, I know you're

half court whatever that's called. Shoot it from back there.
I guess this is me the whole time. Yeah, I
have been enjoying the World Cup and when people go
soccer's boring. I can agree a little, but I go, yeah,
but baseball sucks too, and I like baseball. If you
just came and you never watched baseball and a baseball
game came on, we wait all this time? Yeah, pitch,

okayall pitch another one. It sucks unless you grew up
watching it. That being said, I was watching that Germany
game and they go and they take penalty kicks and
Germany ends up losing. This has been a bit, but
the note I made is after the game, and after
Germany loses, they went to multiple players to take those

penalty kicks. I think three of them said no, I
don't want to do it. And the guy who finally
took the last penalty kick, who ended up getting blocked
or missing maybe he went over he was like, yeah,
I'll do it, but three players said no. And you
can look us up. Because it's been like six days.
I was in shock that these professional players playing for
their own country turned down taking penalty kicks because of

the pressure of the situation. What losers four of them?
It was a four read to me what you see

Four German players reportedly refuse to step up for the
decisive six penalty kick because they went to extra kicks
because they were tied at the end, and they then

for that other team because I think they were a

That's right, so we're better than Germany.

But Eddie, I would see you as a guy who's like,
you know what, Pressure's not for me.

Yeah, but I feel like if I had made it
all the way to the World Cup, I have to
do it. It's my duty for that and for my nation,
for my country to kick that.

I don't really want to let people down.

not believe those professional athletes said.

I'm talking, I'm barely even casual. I'm like, what would
I be someone who accidentally drives by occasionally? You know,

of the science of it, if you kick it to
a side, there's a chance that even if they jump
to that side, it still gets through. If you kick
it in the middle and they don't move, you're just
gonna hit them, but they're for sure going to stop it.
I think kicking it to a side gives you a
chance to get it through even if they picked the

kicks because the guy blocked it and rolled underneath them.

Another note that I have in summer league, as far
as the NBA is concerned, they're doing the one free
throw rule. I love it. So let's say you get found,
you got two free throws, you shoot one free throw
for both both points.

Yeah, they do that in my kids summer league.

It's the greatest. It's like the pitch clock. There's no
need shoots free throw keep the game going, no need
to do two free throws, no need to do three.
If you get fouled a three pointer, you do three.
Now they they do in the last two minutes. I believe,
go back to normal rules of the game.

But they don't do that in my kids.

Yeah, I think they just don't want to do any

much shit. I mean with Kawhi, it's like, are you
going to commit to any kind of contract with him,
a long term deal of maximum contract And it doesn't
sound like the Clippers were really trying to do that.
But you also have to determine this who where does
(36:17):
Kawhi want to go in terms of where he could
get paid as well? Is there a match there and
do you have the time to make something worth it.
I mean, they got a pretty damn good return from
a draft capital perspective. When I look at the player perspective,
it's underwhelming, Like you're not going to sell me on
(36:39):
brandon Ingram being a decent return for Kawhi Leonard, But
how many players are there in the league in that regard.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
The only way to.
Speaker 7 (36:47):
Make it better for yourself as a franchise trading a
player like Kawhi is if you get the draft return
that is consummate. I don't think they got that in
the James Harden trade. They wind up getting a sex
around picked that turned into a guy that's going to
Auburn next year. You know, next year they got that
into its zubas you know, as well as some decent
(37:10):
player assets as well as When you talk about Benedict
Matthurns restricted free.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Agency, they got his situation to work on.
Speaker 7 (37:18):
I think I would have been fine if the Clippers
would have just kept Kawhi and started the season with him,
revisited things in mid season. But you don't have to
go too far. Look at what happened with Jimmy Butler
in Miami. That situation was toxic and so it's never
an ideal time to part with a star like this.
(37:40):
I think the Clippers did okay. I don't think they
did great, but I think they did okay, and I
understand the timing.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
Do you think that the success of Wemby has created
now a let's see how many big guys we can
get and let's pay them more than they would have
been worth three years ago, So especially in the West,
so we can have a shot to stop Wemby. And
mostly I talk about Walker Kesler, who didn't play much
last year with the Utah, but here he is signing
(38:07):
a massive four year deal. Do you think Wemby actually
affected that?
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Maybe? Maybe?
Speaker 7 (38:12):
I mean Victor win Benyama is really good. You know,
it's ironic about Victor Wombanyama. He doesn't really want to
be a center, especially offensively. I think Wemby is a
transcendent talent defensively. Offensively, he does things that no other
guys can do, but he doesn't necessarily do them consistently.
You know, there's a higher ceiling for him to get to,
(38:35):
and honestly a higher floor. And so all these teams
talking about how they need their centers, and these centers
tend to be guys who have a greater impact on
the game defensively. I mean, okay, like the New York
Knicks had Karl Anthony Towns, a guy that I'm not
sure how much they're committed to cat long term, right,
(38:59):
And they did a good job defending the San Antonio Spurs,
and by the end of the Finals, they kept attacking
Wemby like he was just another dude. You know, I
think these teams are going to talk about the center
position because they're excited to talk about Wenby, and that's
the one way to talk about him. I'm not even
kidding when I say that. So, like you need to
(39:19):
build a good team, I think that's always how it's
been people. I can I can give you an example
about Nicola Jokic and his ascent to MV you know,
annual MVP candidate, and they're like, I saw a team
that was like, yeah, we're not even going to try
to bolster our center depth. We're going to do it
another way, and like create a team full of wings.
(39:43):
I might be I might not be doing the best
job of hiding who that team is. So like that,
there's always this approach of, oh, cancel centers completely, or
you don't need centers, it doesn't matter anyway. And now
you're in an era of get every center you can
because Wenby is here. It's like, NA, just build the
(40:04):
best team that fits that what you have. And as
far as Walker Kesler is concerned, Walker Kessler's impact is
going to be on defense, and I think Walker Kessler
is going to be someone who addresses a huge issue
for the Lakers last year as far as their rent protection.
But the Lakers are two rent protection issues. They didn't
(40:25):
have great reprotection from their centers, but they had the
worst rent protection in the league. I would say outside
of their centers. Walker Kessler is a very good room protector,
and he alone is not going to save the Lakers
if their secondary rent protection remains. Guys like Luca Danti
and Jakelarrabia. I'm just going to leave it at that.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
John Morant going west like also just him and Dame together,
Like will he listen to day?
Speaker 3 (40:52):
I'm sure he will.
Speaker 7 (40:53):
Like I think John Morant has been a character assassination.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Victim over the last several years.
Speaker 7 (40:59):
Like, I think dude wants to just be in a
situation where he can play, and I think being healthy
is a big part of that. I mean, Job Morant
was suspended to begin the what was it the twenty
twenty three to twenty four season, and since then he
had a major shoulder injury that ended that season after
(41:20):
he debuted, and then the twenty twenty four to twenty
five season, they started great, and as usual with the
Memphis Kerzlies, they ended poorly, still made the playoffs, and
then this fast season where I don't think Job played
a single game after January. It's like, Jaw needs to
be healthy. I think that's my main thing. I'm not
worrying about Job Morant and his behavior off the floor
(41:44):
or what the locker room is looking like.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
I think Job being healthy that's where it's got to start.
Speaker 7 (41:50):
Now the Blazers are putting together an incredibly weird team,
which is on brand for that city. But I think
you have to consider this. Damian Lillard is not the
Damian who ended teams seasons in the playoffs in the
twenty tens. He's a guy who is in his mid
thirties coming off of one of the more devastating injuries
you can have, especially when you're a small guard, and
(42:12):
I think there is a case of insurance there at
that position. I just feel like they're best players Daniavvia
and anything that takes the ball out of his hands
more than it needs to be is going to be
a little challenging. And we'll see how Mike and Nory
makes all of this work. But I have a feeling
that Portland has at least one guard to offload. I'd
(42:35):
be looking at Drew Holliday, a guy who is as
old as Dame, a guy who is very good, very productive,
but doesn't fit any kind of future with that team.
There's a logjam there, and I'd be interested to see
where he goes to you next.
Speaker 4 (42:51):
Jalen Brown going to Philadelphia. Obviously he wasn't going to
stay in Boston, at least from everything that I was
writing or people that I was talking to and a
lot of people got upset about that, saying they only
got Paul George a couple first, a couple of seconds.
But to me, I would love for you to contradict
what I'm saying. I feel like, if anything, it was
(43:11):
mostly a salary dump as well so they can make
another move. That was a massive salary they were paying him,
and if they knew he wasn't going to stay, they
needed to offload that because I think Paul George is
what maybe one year left. What are your thoughts on
that trade?
Speaker 7 (43:26):
My thoughts on the trade, It was just a ridiculous
situation as far as the relationship breakdown. I feel like
Jalen Brown enjoyed the individual season he had and the
team exceeded expectations, but they also humiliated themselves in the
process of blowing the three one lead to a team
that they enjoyed beating year after year as they were
(43:48):
building this era with Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, and
I just feel like there was some fatigue there when
it comes to their contracts. It's like Boston paid him
this contract. Yeah, he's got three years left on a
pretty significant deal, and you know, with Jason Tatum ideally
coming back again. We're talking about a guy tours Achilles Tendon.
(44:10):
We got to see what that looks like for him
over the course of a full season. We're talking about
Paul George, a player who again I covered for years.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
I don't think their ability and.
Speaker 7 (44:18):
Availability is what you use to describe Paul George as
far as assets and positive traits at this point of
his career, But I do think there was some significance
to how the team might have felt about how good
they were when Jaylen Brown didn't play.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
Or when Jaylen Brown was on the bench, and.
Speaker 7 (44:38):
Thinking can you build a team that can be better
than that? Because they clearly weren't good enough in the
playoffs to close out one series. Can you build a
team around that where you can maybe enhance that part
of it. It's like, will they miss Jalleen Brown? Yeah,
they do great things with Jalleen Brown. Absolutely. The relationship
(44:59):
I felt like was a bigger factor than the contract.
I feel like they were like, we don't need this
to be a problem when we already feel like you
can over time build a team that can win games
and possibly be a little deeper, a little bit better
than you had with Jalen Brown making the same money
(45:25):
over a long period of time. It wasn't for me.
It's not like Jaylen Brown was upending free agent like this,
dude's not going to be a free agent and for
another three seasons in the NBA. Now that's a that's
a very long time. And so to me, it was
more like I felt like the Celtics were like, we're stuck.
We need to make this move, and we think that
over time there will be a chance to enhance and
(45:48):
raise the floor of that team.
Speaker 4 (45:50):
Rich Paul's whiteboard of the teams that Lebron could possibly
go to. I find that stuff to be super entertaining
because it's like wrestling to me, like it's all out
out there. So we talk about it, otherwise you don't
post it or talk about it on the podcast with
Kellerman and so I love it. But it does feel
a little bit like the decision, but just with more
(46:12):
teams from way back in the day. Where do you
think Lebron ends up as of right now?
Speaker 7 (46:17):
As of right now, if it's a team that is
not Golden State or Cleveland, I will be legitimately surprised.
I can't be can't I mean, it's going to be
a shock that this isn't to find out. Oh shoot,
all right, here's Lebron's next scene. So I feel like
there is a legitimacy there. I think they floated the
Golden State thing because it's it's like when you test
(46:40):
run with an audience, right, like you're trying to you're
trying to see, all right, we might.
Speaker 3 (46:44):
Want to change this ending, you know.
Speaker 7 (46:48):
I think that would be a significant move, and it
would definitely be a move that, ten years after Kevin
Durant's next chapter would be really really funny.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
Cleveland is just the obvious. Hey come home.
Speaker 7 (47:01):
You know, Cleveland has moved to make to actually facilitate
that happening. If it's anybody else, then it's going to
be interesting. I'd love to see him in Minnesota. They
need a Lebron James, simple as that, Like they need
someone to replace Julius Randall and be a big body there,
you know.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
But other than that, like I don't, I don't.
Speaker 7 (47:26):
I don't know where he would legitimately go that would
fit the Again, the story of what Lebron James wants
to do there.
