Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'm going to do a little recap here of our
iHeartRadio Music Festival. And I want to thank our friends
at Hyundai and Hyundai Hope on Wheels for making this
episode possible. I spent the weekend at the festival. One
thing that really stood out was how visible Hyundai Hope
on Wheels was throughout the event. If you're not familiar,
Hyundai Hope on Wheels helps fund pediatric cancer research and
support children and families facing pediatric cancer. And they are

(00:22):
celebrating 30 years of impact and some great moments tied
to that mission and Did you sign a hand by
any chance?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
I didn't.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
You didn't go out. So they had a huge wall
and you could put the hand print up there and
then write a message.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Oh, I love that. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
It was really good. So yeah, big shout out to Hyundai.
And I got, I mean, I have that car.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
So for me, I was in the car and they
were like, look how cool it is. Like I have it.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
You're like, yeah, I drive it all the time.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Kind of have it. The house and music stage was
powered by Hyundai, which is super cool. And so again,
to have a sponsor that, uses their platform to bring
awareness to an important cause is so good.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
And to be 30 years into it, that's amazing.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
If you have to go one moment that was your
favorite from the entire festival?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Oh, that is really hard to pick.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
And it can be something even personal. It doesn't have
to be a specific performance or anything.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Okay, well, for me, my daughter, my niece, and my
sister were at the concert, and watching them have such
a fun time both nights... And like looking back at
videos and seeing them dancing and having fun and us
making special memories together. Because all the artists, I mean,
they brought something totally different. Like my sister's turning 50
and she's, you know, excited to see Snoop Dogg and

(01:36):
Lainey Wilson and Kenny Chesney. And then my daughter, who's 19,
is all about Zara Larson and Cardi B and Stella Lefty.
And it was just like a perfect mix to have
a girls weekend where we're all different ages.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
I didn't really see anybody perform except on the screen
because I was backstage. I was up on stage doing
a deal with Weezer and there's just a funny picture
of me and one of the guys from Weezer and
then Rivers from Weezer, lead singer, and we all are
wearing glasses and look the same. And there's a funny picture.
There was a guy that I didn't understand what he

(02:07):
was doing. And in the room, I kept hearing Billy
Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins talk and sing in the room
down below. And I thought, is that Billy? Because they
were playing. And he kept talking. And then finally another
guy walked out And I wonder, is Billy Corgan in
that room? And so finally the door was open, and
it was somebody mixing some Billy Corgan live performances. And

(02:28):
then they were mixing the performance that Smashing Pumpkins was
doing later.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Oh, okay.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
And it kept playing over a speaker in that room,
and I thought he was in there. I was on
stage when Smashing Pumpkins played. I was backstage when they
played a song. But yeah, I didn't get to see
any performance this year. But that was a lineup that
I liked. Goo Goo Dolls, obviously Smashing Pumpkins, and Weezer
for sure. And then our friends, Laney. Although I walked

(02:52):
into the building with Kenny Chesney. He did not know
who I was. This is somebody I spent a lot
of time with because he just saw some... I didn't
have a hat on and my hair is longer than
it's ever been my whole life. He didn't even know
it was me. And so we walked right in. Didn't
say anything.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
But you eventually said something, right?

Speaker 1 (03:09):
No, no, nothing.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Oh, no.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
No, because I wanted to see if he would ever
recognize me. And I just kept walking with the idea
of he's... I'm going to go back to the show
and go... He didn't recognize me. And then I figured
you guys would be like, yeah, you're crazy. But then
you saw it happen with your own eyes where people
that I knew weren't recognizing me because my hair was long.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I know. I did witness it. But I thought you
and Kenny surely ended up saying hi. That's kind of
funny you just let it go.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
It's a bit. I knew I'd see him back here anyway.
So the festival was really cool. The House of Music
stage was powered by Hyundai. And again, they had the
cars out there. They had where you put the handprints.
They had Stella Lefty who performed on the House of
Music stage. which is powered by Hyundai. And so I
went and hung out with her for like a half
an hour before the show in like the side tent.

(03:56):
And it was just good to hang out with her.
I wish more people would like stick out for her online.
Because that song just kind of came and crushed. And
then you've probably seen it. And I wasn't going to
talk about that with her. And her manager came and
got me and said, hey, do you want to go
talk to Stella? And I don't ever want to bother anybody.
I don't even think anybody wants to talk to me.

(04:16):
So I was like, ah, no, you should go hang out.
It'd be good. She'd like to see you. I was like, okay.
So I walked back, and the first thing she said was,
do you see this stuff people are saying about me online?
And I was like, yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Oh, man.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
So we talked about it. I just gave her some
mental health tips on how to, for the most part,
you don't really block it. You have awareness of it.
But to have it not affect you as much as
it would if you didn't have awareness of it. And
I told her how I do Tuesdays. Just kind of
the one day I go in. Because if I just
don't look at anything, then I wonder. But if I

(04:47):
give myself, it's like a cheat day when I'm exercising.
If I don't ever have a piece of pie, then
I want it all the time. But if I know
that cheat day is coming up, I can hold off.
So we talked about that. And then she got up.
And the great thing about Stella Lefty is she can
really sing. And so I think that always surprises people.
That she gets up and just crushes it. Major Lazer
closed up the festival at the House of Music. It

(05:08):
was just a really cool setup that they had out there.
And there were tons of people.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, that was fun. There was tons of people.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Even talking to Stella, because that was Saturday. And it
was outside. And again, the big Hyundai set was there.
And iHeartRadio had built all these activations, things you could
walk through. And she was like, is anybody going to
be out there? And there were like four or five
rows of people. But by the time she went on,
it was all the way back, which was cool.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
And people were pumped.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
I also wondered, is anybody going to be out there?
But it ended up being packed.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
I guess I talked to her probably an hour after
you did that. And I had an interview with her.
And that makes sense that you had just had that
conversation with her, but I didn't know it. Because she
came in just, I introduced myself because I hadn't met
her yet. And I said, I'm Amy.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Oh, that's right. You haven't met her.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
No. You hadn't. And I was sitting down with her one-on-one.
And so before we got on mics, I was like, hey,
I'm Amy. I work with Bobby. And she was like, oh,
my gosh.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
I love Bobby.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Like she, you could just see the gratitude on her
face for you. And that makes sense. She was just
probably fresh off that conversation with you like an hour before.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
I forgot you guys hadn't met and we had just
spent time over at the other studios.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
But now that makes sense. Y'all had had that good talk.
And then she comes in and I mentioned you and
you could just see in her face. She's like, oh,
he's the best.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
She did say when I saw her, she did say,
you're the only podcast I'm ever doing again the rest
of my life. And I was like, yeah, she was kidding.
But I just, I was like, well, that's not true, but.
Thank you. So, yeah, it was great. And it was
such a great show and for such a great cause.
And the Hyundai Hope on Wheels, again, supporting pediatric cancer
for nearly 30 years. And obviously our show having so

(06:46):
many ties, not only with Hyundai, but with different awarenesses
and different ways to fight cancer. And a portion of
every new Hyundai vehicle sold. the organization has invested more
than $ 303 million in pediatric cancer research and treatment and
family support. And, you know, that's where that pledge wall
and those blue handprints. I didn't know if they were

(07:08):
all blue. I'm pretty colorblind, but I think they were
all blue. And so the blue handprint, it is blue. Oh,
thank God. Known as the mark of a warrior has
become a symbol of hope, resilience, and solidarity for children
and families facing pediatric cancer. And a lot of people,
and there may have been so many, they took one
wall down and put another one up of all the handprints.
So it was super cool. They had the karaoke in

(07:30):
the car. It was a karaoke booth. So you'd get
in the car, and Hyundai had it where you could
go in, there's an iPad and a microphone, and you
could sing in the car.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Wait, you're telling me I missed this?

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Yeah, it was good. You had the options. I sang
Weezer Island in the Sun.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Oh, Islands in the Sun, such a jam.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yeah, so I put it up on my Instagram story.
But it was a really cool element where you could
go and have a video of something fun.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
No, I'm kind of sad that I missed that. I
would like a video of me doing karaoke.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Well, I can just make one. We can just do
the phone.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Can we go get in your Hyundai and do it? Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
So I made that video, posted it. People went crazy.
It went so viral. I had three record labels reach out. Oh, really? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
I can tell.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
It was really great. So the festival itself was really cool.
It was the 16th for me. That's crazy. I've been
to every single one of them. It's crazy. Looking back
to it, pictures, because there are even some pictures of
the first one that you went to. When do you
think you went for the first time? What number festival,
if you had to guess, was that?

Speaker 2 (08:31):
It was 2013, so I don't know when that.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
So 2010 would be the first one?

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Maybe. So if I'm just doing the math here, and
you were 13, so you've done probably 12 or 13
of them?

Speaker 2 (08:45):
12 maybe.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
There's that picture of us the first time that you
went at that table and I'm wearing like a red jacket.
Do you know that picture I'm talking about? 2011. Do
I have on leopard pants? I don't remember. I didn't
see your pants. It's only from the top. We look
like children.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
I know. Wow. Sometimes I see old pictures and I'm like, hmm.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Yeah, we look like children. As we wrap up here,
our festival recap, again, I want to thank Hyundai and
Hyundai Hope on Wheels again for supporting this episode and
our recap and for the work that they're doing to
help children and families facing pediatric cancer. If you'd like
to learn more about Hyundai Hope on Wheels, the Mark
of a Warrior campaign, or the organization's mission, you can
go to HyundaiWarriors.com. You can learn more about the families,

(09:29):
the research being funded, and ways to support the fight
against pediatric cancer. That festival is always great. I just
wish it wasn't so far away.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Like as in distance?

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah. It's hard. It's always been hard on us because
we leave right after a show on Friday. We get there, land,
go right into the festival. We're dehydrated. It's a long flight.
We go right into Saturday.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Our sleep gets off because of the time change.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
And we wake up and go right into clients and festival.
And then we get back on a plane and come
and land. And then we're still dehydrated. and then we
go right back into the show. And there are people
with worse problems for sure, but I just wish it
were closer. Down the road from my house.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
I don't even, as long as there was no time change,
I'm fine with it. Like, I can be fine with
a three-hour flight, no time change.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
The time change for me benefits me because college football
is always on that Saturday and And those 11 o'clock
central games are at 9 a.m. So I can start
watching those games then. Like this year, Arkansas played at
9 a.m. Now we got pummeled, but I got the
pummeling over with before the day started. Because there have
been some trips where we've lost really close games. It
was a game we lost to Texas A & M

(10:35):
at the very end. And it was an evening game.
And it was in between like meetings and the festival.
And I went back to the festival pissed. Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
And then I couldn't bring up how my Aggies won.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
And then I said, don't look me in the eye.
And I walked around. Do not look me in the eye, anybody. So, yeah,
thanks to Hyundai and thanks to Hyundai Hope on Wheels
for supporting this episode. And hopefully we get to do
it again next year. Bye, everybody.
