Bobby recaps his and Eddie’s quick trip to Florida yesterday. He shared why he was embarrassed when he showed up to the fancy event. He talked about making celebrity friends and having to write jokes on the spot. Then, Koe Wetzel stops by to talk about life as a new dad, getting in the best shape of his life, and how having a daughter has changed him. He shares the story behind his new album The Night Champion, explains the meaning of "Hurts Like You," reflects on his college football days.  He also tells Bobby why he opened a bar he can't get kicked out of. Plus, Koe takes on the infamous grip strength test, talks touring Australia, and reveals the artists who influenced him growing up.

About it bones rough on this morning waking up, so
your part Tours will share it with you. A couple
months ago, one of our executives hit me up and said, hey,
we need you to pre record a Thursday show and
come down and play golf with clients and speak with
clients and then speak at an event. And so we
finished the show on Wednesday, and late Wednesday night, late

(00:23):
Wednesday night, we flew into the Palm Beach Airport and
cat like five hours sleep. I'm not complaining because we
got to play golf and that's nice. Then the day
just went all day. I made the mistake of taking
a nap for like twelve minutes, and then you just
feel worse. I got to the room, took a shower,
I had a couple of meetings I had to get

(00:44):
to because we had a lot of executives there and clients,
and I just thought I'll just rest my eyes for
a second, and I set my alarm and I woke
up like twelve minutes later, and just it made me
feel worse. A twelve minute and I need about if
I'm going to nap, about thirty minutes for it to
be a full nap or I just come away in
the negative. So we did that and then we had

(01:06):
an event last night. I made some notes whish we
didn't get it till late last night either, which is
why this morning was kind of rough for me waking up.
If I were to go back, and because I've signed
in Ndia, it can't be super specific about it.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
But Eddie and I went to do a TV show
and they said bus.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Cocktail, some weird dress code, and I thought I shouldn't
dress this up because there was another celebrity that was
there as well. Now I'm using the word celebrity because
that's what they said I was. I went in as
a celebrity. They brought in a second celebrities. They had
two celebrities there, and I thought, I know, whomever the

(01:48):
other celebrities is not going to dress like they're saying
to dress. It was very elevated, but I'm still going
to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
And I wore suit basically jacket, button up.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
And then I get there and the other celebrity was
just like a short sleeve with like some jewelry, and
I was like, dang, I wasn't gonna wear that. But
they didn't go as hard as what the dress code suggested.
So this event was happening, and I think I'm not
going as hard as dress code suggests. And I get
there and everybody in a suiting time, everybody like dressed out,

as they say, to the nines, and I'm in some
like some slacks and just a collared shirt.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Well, I feel like executives versus some other celebrity.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
That's very different vibe.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
But even the other talent, because they brought in some
talent for.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
Those they were dressed up to.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Full suit for everything.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Did you know the other talent a.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Lot of them. Yeah, So they brought in some folks.
The people that I didn't know were well, I got
to know Brady Quinn who played football Notre Dame and
the but he works for a company and works for
Fox Sports Television as well.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
They brought in a guy from like Steve Harvey Show.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
They brought in Clay, Travis Clay and Buck Sean Hannity
was there.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
It was that type of crowd.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
And then they brought in I think probably the biggest
spenders in the company or people they have great relationships with,
and so they just create like this day this play
golf with the talent, get to know them, a lot
of them we work with already. It's just to you know,
further cement the relationship. Sometimes just to make new friends,
like we made Eddie and I made new friends yesterday
and then we go to this big, real nice dinner

(03:36):
and then hopefully the relationship's better where if they're like
we need to spend more money, they spend with us. Right,
it's the goal, very relationship centric, but you still have
to perform. And I just wasn't dressed to what everybody
else was. There's all these pictures where everybody, even Eddie
dressed suit everything, and I'm just like giddy up clothes.
I don't know if anybody else cared, but I definitely

(03:58):
felt a little weird. And I'm always, hey, dress a
little more than what the dress coach says. But I
just got burned like three weeks ago, showing up looking
like an accountant when the other guy looked cool. So
I was just gonna show up looking not as a countity.
But I have felt very underdressed.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Will did anybody say anything to you, like our executives like, hey.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Dude, no, they wouldn't. Not there that could get an
email today. But even then, I don't think they're going
to what did you think?

Speaker 5 (04:23):
I just feel I don't understand, Like, at what point
can you be George straight and just show up everywhere
with the wranglers, a start shirt and a cowboy hat.
And even if it says formal, like, even if it
says cocktail attire, you're George.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
That's a cowboy's cocktail attire.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
Yes, So like Bobby, I feel like you should just
have your look always.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
And if it's a cardigan and your glasses.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Do you have a card again?

Speaker 6 (04:46):
No?

Speaker 1 (04:46):
But I do definitely have a look and I do
have There is also artist fancy, which is what I
didn't do on the first one, which is what I
kind of did on this one. But then the other
people that were talent didn't follow artists fancy. If you
go to the CMA's like you wear a full tuxedo,
or you can show up on like a leather jacket
and jeans, people are like, yeah, still that's artist fancy. He'
dressing up for the event. So most of the time

(05:07):
I do get the benefit of the doubt to dress
artists fancy. I just felt because nobody else was dressed
the style that I was, that I kind of was
a sore thumb there. It didn't bother me that much.
I just kind of felt felt a little stupid.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
Like Sean Hannity, I feel like he's always in a suit.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yeah, so that's kind of right. Yep. But again, even
Brady Quinn, he was dressed with the nines.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
I mean, this guy is so good looking and so giant,
and he played quarterback. You would think the guy was
an NBA player.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Amy, do you know him? Google him? Yeah, really good
looking guy.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
And we get up early in the morning and they
put us on a really like nice bus. It's not
like a school bus. No, they call it what are
they called sp sprinter buses you have? But bigger than
a So we get on this bus.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
You see.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, he's like a model looking Yeah, but I'm seeing
a younger pictures of him playing ball and then now
he's older.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Yeah, but he still looks like a model.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Right, I know. But he's not a current player.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Correct, he's like an analyst. Now I would imagine.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Every photo of him doing whatever. He's a sports coat tie,
but like he's dressed up in every single picture.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
I yes, he's probably thirty eight. Now what does he
say his ages? Forty one? Okay.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
So we're on this nice bus, we're sleepy as crap,
and we're going to the golf club to play, and
he's sitting next to me, but I don't know that
it's him. They don't tell us who's coming to this,
and also it was so early, so we're just kind
of staggering down and Eddie's sitting up a row from me,

(06:51):
and I texted him. I said, I think Brady Quinn
is sitting next to me one aisle over on the
bus because there was an empty seat next to me
because somebody like spilled something in it. I didn't know
that I sat in the other seat that I think
people spilled something in and because it's a big dude,
but nobody's really talking a whole lot because it's early
in the morning. And Brady Quinn looks at me and goes, hey,

(07:11):
you buy bones, And I was like you, Brady Quinn.
He's like, yeah, Brady was the backup quarterback to Matt Castle,
who I do my NFL show with, and he goes,
I'll watch you guys podcast, Like Matt Castle is the
greatest guy ever. And so we kind of hit it
off right there because we had a mutual friend. So
I texted Matt and I was like, Hey, what do
you think about Redd Quinn? Cause if he was like
not dirt bag, hey, I just say hi. Matt's like,
Brady's the greatest dude ever, and so got to know him.

(07:34):
We went and play golf. It's very humid. Eddie whoop
me around yesterday. I haven't played a whole lot, but
he really put it on me. He played pretty good yesterday.
We made some friends on the golf course and then
we got back to the clubhouse and I had some
work to do and a couple of meetings to have,
and Eddie had work to do video work, and so

(07:56):
we needed to get back to the hotel. And so
I just go to the person who's handling for the company.
I say, hey, can we leave ahead of the bus.
But this golf club is like in such a remote
part of what that Palm Beach area, West Palm Beach,
wherever you guys wanna call it. They're like, it's gonna
take twenty thirty minutes to get a car here. I'm like,
that's fine. So Eddie and I sit in a corner,

(08:18):
finally get in a car.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
We get back.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
I go have some meetings, take a shower, sleep for
twelve minutes, and then we're up again doing the thing.
And I'm just I've had we had no food, no lunch.
They had lunch, but we were gonna have to stay
there and eat. So we go back to this this event.
I get to put my clothes on and get dressed
to go down and feel like an idiot because I'm
not dressed like everybody else.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
And they want me to speak.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
So you didn't know you were speaking?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
I did, but they didn't give me anything to speak about. Okay,
So it was, hey, go up because there's gonna be
some power point and there's gonna be the CFO talking,
and that's very business. Go up and do your thing,
but talk about how great the company is. Like that's
really the only no they gave me. And so I

(09:02):
don't only when I'm gonna speak. And so after steak, right, yes,
they brought the appetizer, then they brought the main meal,
and then after steak, a guy gets up and he's like,
all right, we going to bring up, oh, one of
our greatest talent. And I'm hoping it's gonna be one
of the other talent in there, because the We're like
seven in there. I didn't want to go first because

(09:24):
there's no vibe in the room, and so all right,
Bobby Bones come up and.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
I'm like, oh man.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
So one of the things I'm happiest about in my
career is that I spent probably three years doing stand
up NonStop and getting at my best okay at it.
But I'm just comfortable in that environment, even doing private
gigs where the lights are on and people are sending
at round tables eating like that really makes you capable.

(09:50):
And so I wrote a few jokes for it, and
I thought, I have no fear. I'm just gonna go
do the jokes and people laugh. They laugh, and I
get up and I lead it, and I say, hey,
I'll just read the not even that funny in the
room here. It's maybe some of them weren't that funny
last night, but I'll read you some of them said, uh,
let me see here I started off. I said, hey,
it's really cool to have a lot of the same
talent in the room. A lot of times people you know,

(10:12):
I saw Clay and Bout getting confused for each other.
You know, they do a show together. Yeah, they kind
of look alike. I said, there's Brady Quinn.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
I think the joke if I say it right, I
think it was like, you know, he talks a big
confused with Brady Quinn today.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Zero. Yeah, gave a.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Little beat, a little sad zero. It got a pretty
good laugh. And I'm thinking, all right, they're listening. That's
not a home run hit or joke. But I just
wrote it. And I got to metche Brady Quinn again,
which is pretty cool because he's pretty cool. And so
we did that, and we would be driving around and
that is the richest place I've ever seen. That city
is the richest place I've ever seen, just in general.
I've seen other cities like Los Angeles where they have

(10:51):
parts that are rich. But everywhere we went it was
obscene looking. There was so much.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
It was yachts and yachts everywhere.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Yeah, And so I said, I said, how many you
guys actually live here? And some did and they run
their businesses from there. I said, first, you guys, the
first time people are different here. I saw a woman
walking a poodle this morning with jewels on its collar
and leash, because I did see that. And then I said,
and then right after that, I saw another guy walking
his financial advisor. H I got a pretty good laugh,

(11:21):
and I'm like, I'm in now, okay, we're two in.
This is not a room for comedy. I making fun
of rich people. This is awesome. And then my third
joke wasn't as strong, but I didn't know really like
what was going to do the best. The hotel we
were in, This is not the joke. The hotel we
were in was obscene because you walk in. I don't

(11:43):
even know how to explain it, other than if you
had like a grandma that was kind of rich. And
they made everything gaudy looking, and you're like, is this
stuff really valuable or just old or nick knacky?

Speaker 2 (11:58):
But everything and.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Everything in the hotel looked like it, but it was
all very valuable, Like the ceiling was painted like the
Sistine Chapel.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
They looked like we were in Italy, but we were
in West.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Poins Yea, and everything was so fancy, And I said,
this is a fancy hotel I've ever stayed in. I
spent five minutes in the elevator trying to figure out
if those were buttons or some sort of precious metal.
Got a decent laugh. When did the spiel about the company.
But what was funny was everybody while I was there
taking pictures was asking me about Dancing with the Stars.
I still get asked about that the most from people

(12:29):
fifty five and up. Every third conversation was Dancing with
the Star tap. So I got up and I told
a couple of stories about that and how I only
won that show because of our relationship with our audience,
Like they went to bat for me for sure, over
and over, and that's why we won. That's why they
changed the rules. And so I turned that story into, hey,
this is why I think this works. I think this

(12:50):
is why for advertisers, like if it works with us,
this is why we can work for you guys.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
And it was good, and.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
So the conversation was good, and I walked off and
we were flying out when my speech was over, and
so I did the room a little bit, like I
went to rich Our CFO was like, you good with
the because I kind of went rogue and just did jokes,
jokes just in general, like was he okay with all?

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (13:13):
He was like he would have said no, he'd have
been like was what I was looking for?

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Seeing a couple of weeks that's tough.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Yeah, but I like it because I know how he
feels man of little emotions that are camouflaged like I
enjoyed that about him, and he was like, great job,
talked to a couple of the other people, and then
we got out of there, so I felt good about it.
Weird room wasn't built for comedy. Had three jokes, two
and a half of them worked really well. Got in

(13:44):
this morning, No, I got in late last night, woke
up this morning felt like I've been hit by a truck.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
So if I'm a little off today, that's what's up.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
But we did take the show yesterday at their request,
which rarely happens where they're going we need you to
take the show and just come down and do this thing.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
But I tell you this, so Eddie and I go, and.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
I would I would say that I am not initially
up on meeting at times the warmest because I'm always like,
what is this person up to? Not good at small talk?
Once we hit on, once we hit it off like
friends for life. But I'm always a little suspicious of
people and what their intentions are. Not Eddie.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Eddie loves everybody all the time.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
From Edie Eddie's like a laban to be your best friend.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
Oh a labrador? Yeah got it, Yeah, got it. I
love small talk. It works favorite.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
I say, when nobody on the bus was talking, everybody's sleep,
you know who was talking. Eddie was up two seats
up talking to his whole life story to this dude.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
I don't even know what business the guys he was
head of sales.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
Of I Heeart.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
I'm like, Doe, We've never remember before. This is part
who was?

Speaker 1 (14:45):
They were just going to town, like talking it up,
and even on the golf course, like we played with
a couple of guys and Eddie said this to me
last night, and he's right, if you play around a
golf with somebody, there is a bond that is because
you just spent four hours intimately with them, like for business.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
That's where relationships happen.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Because we finished the round and we're sitting at our
table eating dinner last night and one of the guys
from that we were with from Saint Louis as a company,
he comes up and it's like.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Did you guys ever get that beer you left for it?

Speaker 5 (15:17):
I mean it's like our best friend, yeah, out of
the whole room, automatically you're like, oh my gosh, like
he's a long lost friend.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Good to see you. We just spent four hours with them.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
In forty five minutes later, we're like, what your you
wear normal clothes?

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Like it's a thing.

Speaker 4 (15:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
The other guy we played with name was John. He
works in like precious metals gold silver. Oh, you got
to come on the show and talk to us about
like stuff like because we want to talk about stuff
like this. And so turns out he's like awesome, like
cycles one hundred miles every other week. And so I
got his email this morning. I was like, I want

(15:52):
to email John for my personal email. That's my new friend.
Like he's not even trying to email me, like I'm
trying to email him.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
So that was our day yesterday. It's a long one
and I wouldn't say it was fun, but it was.
It was worth the.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
Trip, right, Oh, I thought it was fun, Like I
had a blast being able to play golf.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Is especially sounds like it was really nice.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
I just feel the pressure to all and those those
things where I have to like be there. I feel
like I have to perform for like fourteen hours at
a time. I'm not really allowed to not be on
I think for me, that's why sometimes it doesn't feel
it's fun. I get that, and those meetings in between
when I should I should have taken a longer nap,
but I couldn't.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Those hurt. Oh those hurt mad You didn't go to
the beach at all. And he went to the beach,
I said, I forgot about that. So we were It
was literally outside the hotel door, like, how are we
not going to the beach. It's right there.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
I'm trying to figure out what hotel y'all were at.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
We couldn't get in with that going through security outside
on the street to get into the hotel. Oh wow,
this event was so insane that one uh Fazzio was
with Fazzio, who has a job of prominence in our company.
She works with us in the syndication part of our company,

(17:07):
but really a prominent, respected job has a lot of responsibility.
It was so important to them to have good people.
She was the person at the table just checking in
guests like she was doing the piece paper. Okay, Wilson
checked on the thing like they brought her down to
do that. And so it is a wild there's so
much money down there. It's wild to see all the

(17:30):
yachts just just right there. Oh yeah, And I go
back and so we put all our bags in Eddie's room,
and my ardeal was when I start talking. Eddie was
going to go up to the rooms get our bags.
So as soon as I was done talking, I could
go and meet him in the car and we would
go to the airport. And so I was moving my
bags over before he went down for the dinner, and
he were like, how'd it go? I was like, I

(17:50):
had a couple of meetings, a couple of clients, and
like the boardrooms here, and he goes, oh, I went
to the beach.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
I mean, you can't put me in a hotel ride
by the beach and me not see the beach.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
I had to go. I only went for like thirty minutes,
but it was just it.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
I think I found real stayed. It does look like
another country.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
Let me see the name. Did she get it?

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Yeah?

The only reason I know that because that logo was
on the butter.

Yeah.

But also look at the ceiling.

It on the butter and I didn't know what it was.

Just went through ten hotels and I finally found the

I mean we didn't. I didn't pay for it. We
didn't pay for it. I know the company put us up.

I mean, he's not joking.

That emblem was on the and I didn't know what
the hotel was called, but I do.

Logo.

Yeah, yeah, this looks grand. And then that's what it
looks like rolling up to it.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
That's exactly what it looks like. And there's a guard
station outside of it. They make sure that you're with
not security guards, police officers.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
That's insane.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Palm Beach, West, Palm Beach police officers.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
Cool, and that's fun. See, this is why I need
to learn golf.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
I mean, if listen, if I was really good at golf,
maybe I would get invited.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Maybe think about it. So I'm talking like, whoa she
can play?

Speaker 1 (19:15):
I don't even think you need that much. I don't
think you need whoa she can play? I think if
you're just a golfer.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
Yeah, but if I could, I probably can invite it
a lot.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
I agree, I agree, So get to it, chop, chop,
I know my back. Oh no, I mean, if we
could still do it, you can do.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
It well, But y'all are y'all have been golfing for years.
Are you're right? I can do it?

I think you Yeah, you'd probably been invited because because
like Sean.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
I could check people in.

No, not because Sean Hannity's like, I'm not sure her
role on this show because I don't listen to Sean Hannity.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
But he had her. They I met her and talked
with her for a long time.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
Were you at Eddie? There you went? Because you went.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
I'm talking about I met her. There was somebody that
wasn't the main What does that mean not to be rude?

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Be rude? Well, what do you mean?

I'm going because you.

Yes, I'm saying it's not like you were invited and
then Bob and Bobby was invited.

It's that Bobby was invited. And y'all, are he took you?

I think I could be wrong, But you can golf,
you can mingle. You're good, you're good like, you can
like talk to anybody like, you're good.

Like. It makes sense.

All of that matters. Yeah.

The fact that Eddie's so great with clients and people
is the reason I take him.

Well, I can't talk to people.

Yeah, but you don't play golf.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
That's what I'm saying.

I know if I think, had it been different, it
would have been you.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
Did Sean Hannity's person play golf.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
I don't know if Sean played golf because he lives there.
I think he down there. But yeah, had it not
been golf, it probably would have been you. But I
do think you're the only person from the show. If
I couldn't go and they needed somebody, they would just
send to you by yourself. I think that would not
to golf event that I feel like they would. Great,
you couldn't go, You wouldn't go, You wouldn't play golf.
He discarded rest of the stuff you did great, But

I think you would go. But Eddie goes because he
he's like my emotional support animal in those situations.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Interesting therapy dog. Don't touch Eddie.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
I'm telling you, there isn't a person on this show
that is better with those small talk situations than Eddie is.
And they know that too, Like Julia, our boss knows that.
She's like, yeah, Eddie kills it with these clients.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
I mean, I kind of I don't know, it's weird,
but I like those events you walk in there's a
little music going, there's an open bar. Everyone seems happy
and willing to talk, and like, man, you just say
you got four kids? Oh, Mike, you have four boys,
and dude, it's over. We're talking for an hour at
that point.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Yes, I need that is I'm not really up for
like music or events or people everything. I just it's
just not really my thing as much. Yeah, but yeah,
that's what's up. I did text Amy during the event.
They had a power point and in the power point
they were trying to, you know, make reference, and they

were being funny that everybody's attention is on all these

Man, I'll do a bunch of cardio stuff. A lot
of I do, like the bro the bro stack or
whatever it is, the arms, chest abs, and that's kind
of like rotating them out, like twice a week.

Do you go to a normal person gym when we're
on the road.

Yeah, but I've got I've got the gym at the house,
so it's easy just to wake up, get in there
and knock it out early. And then you know, I'm
waking up by like probably like six every morning, try
to get the workout done. And then baby girl wakes
up about seven, seven fifteen, so that's when our days start.

Now ours wakes up around then too.

Speaker 7 (50:59):
Yeah.

You know what's easy to me, how old is your daughter?

Speaker 7 (51:01):
She just turned one two weeks ago.

Okay, so ours is now three months. I'm a little
behind you, but it's crazy to me how long they sleep, dude.
Once it's that's like eleven hours. Sometimes we've uh.

Speaker 7 (51:13):
My girl, Bailey, Man, she's trained, she's done like the
routine deal.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
You know, since she was.

Speaker 7 (51:17):
About seven months and we put it in her crib.
At seven she's like, all right, but has that for
twelve hours, but it doesn't wake up once.

Man.

It's it's a blessing, dude.

It's also unbelievable to me because when you have the
baby at first, it's every two and a half hours
because you got to feed that. You know, there's just
all these things happening. And my wife said, at some point,
you know she's gonna sleep for like tens No way,
I argued it, there does no way, this baby.

Yeah, there was. It was rough there for the first
first few months. I was like, man, what have I
got myself into?

Speaker 2 (51:47):
You know?

Speaker 7 (51:47):
And uh, now I get it does get so much better.
I've got a bunch of buddies that you know, have
younger uh you know, little babies and stuff, and they're like, man,
does it get better. I'm like, just trust me, it does.

Man.

So it's been it's been a lot of fun, and
like I see it said that getting the sleep is
a lot better too.

Speaker 1 (52:01):
Do you feel a softness because you have a little girl? Oh?
I guess that's a no.

No, I don't know. I mean I still have my
my days. But you know, it's just kind of I
don't know, it's all over the place, man, I don't
I don't know where I'm at these days. Man, everything's
happening and going on.

Speaker 1 (52:20):
But I feel like because we had a little girl, like,
I feel like I'm way way softer with her than
I would have been if we had a boy.

Speaker 7 (52:29):
Yeah, for sure. And that's what you know, me and
Bailey talk about. She was like you were you were
born to be a girl, dad, And uh so, I don't.
I guess that's a way of saying, yeah, I've got
a little softer over over the years, especially the last year.
But no, she's a she's an angel man. And uh,
I don't know. I can't imagine having a boy now.

I mean, I just feel like it would be different.
I think it'd be like I'd push him down adversity.
This is what life's all about. Do you guys go
to Australia?

We did.

We just got back probably a month ago. We were
over there for two and a half weeks. Did in Melbourne,
Brisbane and Sydney.

What did you learn about that trip?

Speaker 2 (53:08):
Man?

A lot? Actually it was. It was really cool to see,
you know, people you know, all the way on the
other side of the world coming out and uh, you know,
supporting Texas and music man and singing our songs back
to us. It was a wild you know. We did
see him see last year, see them see Rocks a
big festival over there, and had a great time. Yeah,
get over there, man, It's just it's so much fun, dude.

(53:29):
I tell everybody, it's like a huge Texas Like everybody's
just so cool. Uh, and they love the country. The
country music genre over there is blowing up so big,
and so it was it was cool to just to
get in there and uh, you know, stick our foot
in the water and hopefully get to go back over
there for some more shows.

When you go that far, do you give yourself a
couple of days before you perform or do you land
and hit the ground running.

Speaker 7 (53:49):
Yeah, so last year we really didn't. We kind of
we jumped into it and uh didn't prepare for the
jet lag and all that, and we we drank all
the way there and then we drank once we got there.
We didn't really slow down and he and so, uh, yeah,
the show last year was pretty rough. So this year
we were like, hey, we got to get a few
extra days, and I think we had about three which

(54:09):
we had. You know, we rehearsed once we got over
there and uh drank a lot of water and kind
of got the jet lag out of the way before
we started.

Speaker 1 (54:16):
So do people mess up your name a lot if
they don't know you, Not too not too bad. So
Coke Ko gets set us co most of the time.

Speaker 7 (54:24):
If people most of the times, it's that or Kobe
or Cole. I still have an aunt to this day
that calls me Cole for some reason. Uh, And we
tried to uh, we try to be like, hey, it's
it's cod. She just set it Cole for so long.
It's just cold now.

Speaker 1 (54:37):
So that's pretty good. I still get Bobby Jones, Bobby Jones.
That's not even mine. I mean, I guess because my
name is so stupid, So I get Bobby Jones.

that was. Whenever you be cause you have the new
record that's out today, Like, what was the purpose of
a new record for you?

With this one?

Speaker 7 (55:00):
We didn't go into it thinking it was going to
be an album, and we went into it writing a
couple of singles, you know, to try and follow up
High Road, and you know what what it had done,
and so we went in there. We wrote a few
of them, a few turned into six or seven and
those turned into what is now The Night Champion, you know,
And so that was what this album was really cool
about because we didn't I didn't go into it being like, oh,

(55:23):
we got to make a record. It just kind of
made itself. And I think that goes to to you know,
Gabe Simon and and Carrie Kay and all the badass
writers that we had on it. Man, It's just these
songs came really naturally and organic, and they just kind
of came out of nowhere, and before we knew it,
we had a record.

Speaker 1 (55:39):
So how do you write a song? What's your process?

Speaker 7 (55:42):
I'm a melody guy. I love having a melody just
having an idea of kind of where I want to
go with the song and what I want to talk about.
But yeah, I've always been melody first and then lyrics second.

Speaker 1 (55:54):
Do you go in a room at nine am and
write until three? Traditionally? Do you write on the road? Like,
who do you write with?

Speaker 7 (56:00):
I'm writing all the time, so I like, I just
pull out my phone, pull out a bunch of voice
notes and stuff like that. And but yeah, once, you know,
once I started co writing with people when coming to
Nashville a lot more, that was kind of the whole
deal was you know, get into a room and just
see what we can come up with. And I wasn't
I wasn't used to the you know, the the two
hour sessions or the one hours. Oh we got to

(56:20):
put out a song like that? Like, I was never
a fan of that. So with these writers, uh, that
we've put together, you know, from Ashley Gorley to Steph
Jones and and all these bad asses. Man, we've we've
kind of got it to where we don't try to
put a limit on how long we have to write
a song. We just get in there and uh, you know,
if the song makes itself, for sure, but if it doesn't,
you know, we don't try to force it. And that's

(56:40):
what's really been cool about me getting in with these uh,
these these other writers.

Speaker 1 (56:45):
You still have a restaurant or bar, Yeah two down
in Texas?

Speaker 7 (56:48):
Yeah two now yeah Fort Worth in Houston?

Speaker 1 (56:51):
Did it start with just one started in Fort Worth.

Speaker 7 (56:53):
I think we just celebrated three years for the one
and fourth and then Houston's coming up on year and
a half.

Speaker 1 (57:00):
Maybe why did you start those?

Speaker 7 (57:02):
I don't know, man, it was just I think it
was kind of one of those things. You know, I
like to have a good time, like other people to
have a good time, and Fourth just seemed like the
place to do it.

Speaker 1 (57:14):
You know.

Speaker 7 (57:14):
We were always going to bars and usually getting in
trouble or getting kicked out of bars. I said, hell,
I just want to build one of that I can't
get kicked.

Speaker 2 (57:21):
Out of and so.

Speaker 4 (57:23):
Hang out.

Speaker 7 (57:24):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll go. We'll go out there and
uh yeah, all my friends and everything, Like we have
a back room. It's not really a room. It's just
like the back of the bar that we'll kind of
block off and we go in there. It'll be any
any like big event and for Worth or or wherever
around there, will kind of make it a plan to
meet up at the bar around ten or eleven, and.

Speaker 4 (57:43):
It's quite the investment and not get kicked.

Speaker 7 (57:46):
We're cool with all the cops around there too, Like
all the cops are really cool with us and stuff.
So yeah, I mean, we we have a good time?

Speaker 1 (57:53):
Is it bar first? Restaurant second? Yeah, pretty so.

Speaker 7 (57:56):
Like during the day it's a restaurant slash like pretty
much like a sports bar kind of. And then once, uh,
once the lights go down, it's a it's a full
on honky tonk club. Whatever you want to want to
whatever you want it to be, it can be.

Speaker 1 (58:09):
I picture if I went into a co wetze bar,
it would be a stage with the defencing in front
of people. Can't throw beer bottles and chicken Yeah, the
chicken wire. Like that's what I would picture a co
wetzel bar to be. Like, it's so rowdy that that's
what happens.

Speaker 7 (58:26):
Yeah, it's a good time, man. A lot of people
have a lot of fun. I feel like it's uh.
The DJs are great, play a bunch of different styles
of music and uh I got the bottle girls and
all the all the things.

Do you dance? No, hell know at all.

Speaker 7 (58:41):
I mean I can dance, I just choose not to.
I'm a I like to play music for people to
dance too. I can't. I'm not the dancer.

Why is it called the Night Champion. There is no
song called the Night Champion.

No, I didn't, And you know, it's kind of well,
I mean, Nine Lives, I think was the first record
that I put out that actually had a song on
it that was named after the record. But the Night Champion,
it's kind of kind of goes back to kind of
the closing of all the records and stuff that I've
made over the last ten years, just kind of coming
out of you know, the party era of me and

(59:27):
and just kind of where I've been the last ten years.
And you know, I think a lot of people could
sell the changes that I've made my life over the
last year or two and just coming out of it,
you know, with my fists raising the air, and it's kind.

Speaker 1 (59:40):
Of like I conquered that, not you one night, yeah exactly.

Speaker 7 (59:43):
Yeah, and now I'm waking up at seven, you know,
whenever I used to be going to bed at seven.
So yeah, just it's a lot of that. My granddad
he raised hunting dogs, and the Night Champion is awarded
to dogs that, you know, win so many events throughout
the night Hunt and he only had one champion dog,
And I don't know, it just kind of kind of
mixed everything in. It's what it is, and you know

Do you feel like you just don't go as hard
as you used to? Is that age or maturity or what?

For sure, I think it's it's age, just kind of

just me getting older. You know, I don't have the
urge to just go shut down bars anymore, and and

into city limits in Stephenville and Randy Rodgers was playing
up up on the stage and I was looking around

trying to find an ugly girl and I couldn't find one.
And so I was like that, like the next day
they offered me and I was like, yeah, absolutely, this
is for me.

So it's like it's like the biggest Cowboys school in
uh into in the world, I guess. So it made
it made sense.

And you played football there?

And then I snapped my leg and had to have surgery.
And whenever I came back, like we were playing a
lot more shows and I was drinking ten times more beer,

Oh? I played linebacker?

I only had one interception in high school and it's
my freshman year against Carthage. I'll never forget it. And
I ran it back all the way. It's like the

and there's blood where it was pretty dope.

Would you would you laugh at receivers if they tried
to crack you?

Speaker 7 (01:04:04):
No, they didn't. They didn't try to do that too often.

I miss it, man, every day, just about every every
night before I go to bed, Like there's always I

if it's just good memories, but like just looking through
the football and I guess it's kind of I don't
know why that and standing at home plate and hitting
a home run. I don't know why, but like it's
like the last thing I see for some reason.

Yeah, I thought he put a helmet on to go

you wrote this with a lot of the guys you
mentioned earlier. I don't know, give me a story, just
something about this song. It's kind of a before we
play it.

We put the song together and and honestly, I wasn't
the biggest fan of it whenever we first wrote it,
just because it was more of like on the I guess,
like mainstream side of things, Like it was more of
a more poppy song than I was kind of used
to writing or put together, and so I didn't think
too much of it when we first wrote it. You know,
I enjoyed it. I thought it was a good song,

(01:05:21):
but it just didn't really stick out to me. But
the more I listened to it, and the more the
song came together, you know, going to the making the
recording process of it and everything, man, it really started
to hit me on the teeth a little more. And man,
it just it really grew on me. It was a
tune that we wrote, you know about just kind of
like a drug that you can't get away from. You know,
even though you know it's bad for you, you're still

(01:05:43):
gonna go after it. And that was kind of The
more I kept listening to it, the more it made
sense to me, the more I kept playing it, the
more it just kind of became a bug in my ear.
And so, yeah, man it was. It turned out to
be a really cool song. I think it's one of
the more upbeat, obviously radio style songs on the record,
and yeah, man, it turned out pretty good.

No once once we started hearing about next month, I
guess yeah, I won't be home.
