Speaker 1 (00:05):
Lots to Say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle is
a production of the NFL and iHeart Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
We got lots to say. We got lots to say.
We're glad you're here and we hope you stay. Cause
we got lots to say. Yeah, we got lots to say.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Now here's Bobby and Matt.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Hey, everybody.

Speaker 5 (00:34):
We have Bijan Robinson coming on later, which is going
to be super cool. And he is basically everybody's first
or second overall pick in fantasy.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
First or second. Yeah. It's Jameer Gibbs or Bijan.

Speaker 6 (00:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Both got paid. They got broke off. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (00:47):
So we'll talk to him coming up in just a
little bit.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
How you doing? I'm super excited. Football's finally here.

Speaker 5 (00:54):
It does feel like we have something built in to
talk about instead of us just like scratching.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
We've been scratching. We've been clawing. You know, the offseason
is always difficult, especially when you're going through OTAs. And
there are moments where you have the draft and you
have free agency and all those things. But now it's
going to get interesting because we actually have some substance
to talk about and some really good games coming up here.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
So I asked you not to tell me before we
went on. You spent some time with Tom Brady recently?

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Just a phone call. Just a phone call, checking in
with one another and He heard that I was going
to be calling games starting next week. And so we
just got into a little conversation about it. It was
great listening to him and getting some of his advice
because obviously he went through it a few years ago,
being put on the main stage. I mean, he also
obviously on the scale that he was, you know, on

(01:41):
the main broadcast team, you're going to get a Super Bowl,
you're going to do all that stuff. but some of
the lessons that he learned along the ways. And, you know,
he's always been incredible to me as a mentor, as
a person when I was playing, but even further on
in our friendship throughout life, he's just an incredible person,
always willing to share, which I've always appreciated. So just

(02:01):
some small tidbits that he learned along the way, for instance,
he's like, dude, never say percentages. Nobody cares about 69.4%
pass or what does that mean? He completes a lot
of passes because he said early on, he'd sometimes use
a stat to support evidence. And then some more on
is crushing them on Twitter saying, no, it's not. It's 65.5, right?

(02:23):
And stuff like that. And then also just in nailing
just the openings and stuff like that and how he
goes about it, because he preps, he says he really
went about it like we did in New England and
how he prepped and Look, there's going to be three
or four things that Belichick would tell us week in
and week out. Look, we need to do this. We
need to stop the run. We got to shut. This
is their main guy. If he gets going offensively, we're

(02:45):
going to be in for a long day. An example
of that would have been Tony Gonzalez. When we played
the Chiefs, he'd circle them. We'd double them. When I
say double, sometimes they'd line up here. We'd hit him
off the line of scrimmage with a defensive end so
he couldn't release cleanly. All those things. So just having
those different thoughts in your bag about the preparation, how
you go into this. kind of similar to what we

(03:06):
did for our careers. Did he call you or did
you call him? I called him. This is probably the
fifth time. And this is the first time he's picked
up in five calls. So not going to say that
it's always a reciprocated feeling here and that he's going
to just pick up the call just because cat's dog's calling. But,
you know, this time he did. And it's always it's
always great to catch up. Did he know you were calling? Well,

(03:30):
only on his phone when my name popped up probably.
You know what I mean. I didn't schedule a phone call.
I didn't schedule a phone call and be like, hey, dude,
would love to pick your brain on this. It was
just off a cuff. I was driving over to the
kids and he picked it up. That's pretty cool. Call
him now. Call him now. What's up? Let's get him on.
You know what was funny is he was sitting there
and I was like, what are you doing, dude? And
he goes, actually, I'm watching film, preparing for this week.

(03:52):
Because he's like, I need to get caught up on
my film study and all that stuff. And that's part
of it as well is the fun part. When you
get the season, you actually get to watch movies. These
teams and what kind of scheme they're running and kind
of dissect it in that way.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
So you went over to the USC and was it
like Fresno?

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Who did they play? San Jose State.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
And there was nobody there. There was nobody there. It
was hot, dude.

Speaker 6 (04:15):
You were there.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
I wasn't at the game, though. No, but it was
94 degrees out, which is ridiculously hot for USC. Yeah.
So that was the big story that nobody was there.
Nobody was there, that the fans don't show up, that
they don't care.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
As a former USC player, what were your thoughts on that?

Speaker 4 (04:35):
I was a little surprised that it was so empty,
to be honest with you. At the same time, I
also understand our audience and our fan base. We're playing
San Jose State, which should be a mercy kill. We're
a 30, oh damn near a 40 point favorite. It's
really hot outside in the middle of the day. And
so a lot of people have other things to do

(04:55):
and they go out and they do those other things.
I guarantee in three weeks when Oregon comes to town,
and you've got that game at the Coliseum, that thing
will be packed to the brim, and it'll be rocking.
But there's an expectation level there that you kind of
understand that it's not going to be like going to a—
you know, I heard the Texas Tech coach talk a

(05:16):
little smack, throw a little shade, that we got tough
people down here in Texas, and they're going to show up.
That's great. There's nothing else going on in Lubbock, Texas.
My dad's from Lubbock, Texas. I've been to Lubbock, Texas.
And let me tell you, it's either that or sitting
on a, you know, watching your cows take a dump.
So you're going to go out there. I'm not saying
that everybody does that in Lubbock. I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
Send hate mail courtesy of Castle at NFL.com. Just throw
a little shade back, right?

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Yeah. How did it go with you practicing your first
game call? It was fun, man. Honestly, it's so well produced.
Like the night before, you're really going through all the
different segments of the game, having stuff in your back
pocket if the game does get out of hand. And
so early on, it's kind of a sequencing of you
do your introductions, main storylines and all that stuff. And

(06:02):
then as you get into the first quarter, you're kind
of introducing players. They're giving you the lineups and you're
picking one or two players or top storylines about that
position group. It could be a player. It could be
a group like USC had a bunch of freshmen playing.
Then you switch it to the San Jose State side,
which is always a little bit more difficult when you
have one returning starter on their defense and all new
players because you don't know what to expect.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
But then.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Vice versa, San Jose State's offense comes on. You've got
your talking points about their lineup and all that stuff.
And then it's kind of the flow of the game.
So it was a lot of fun, actually. I really
enjoyed it. You call your first game next week? Next week.
As in this week? No, sorry. Not this week.

Speaker 6 (06:40):
No, no.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
That's how I would have said it too. But I
didn't know. People say it differently. And you're from California.
So maybe you mean. Well, this week means this week.
Next week means next week.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Correct.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
So not this Saturday. Not this Saturday. Next Saturday. Yes, sir.
And are you going to Madison? Yes, I am. So
who's the game? it's eastern Michigan and Wisconsin and then
the following week I'm at Penn State for Wisconsin Penn
State which should be rocking that's cool yeah it should
be cool and so it'll be on Peacock it'll be
on Peacock that's so cool I'm so happy for you
I'm pretty fired up I don't really give a crap

(07:08):
about anybody but I like it that you're doing that
that's so cool I'm fired up I text Matt I
was like how'd it go how'd it go yeah you
did you reached out you did I was excited I
actually returned your text you did that never happens either
I know we're both like texting we don't.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
Ever do that Matt was going to come on and
do Rich Eisen.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Did you guys know this? I didn't know that, yeah.
I'm really sorry.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
No, there's no need to be sorry. I forgot you
were even coming to town. And they said, why don't
we get Castle on? Because you were on the last
time that I did. And I said, that'd be awesome
because I don't have to do any setup. He knows
what we're going to talk about, even without us talking.
And so they're like, great. They said, oh, he's coming
to town. He's going to get off the plane and
come right over and just be in studio. I was like, oh,
this is the greatest. I'll keep him on for three segments.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
And so.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
That morning they go, he's not going to make it.
I never heard if your flight was delayed or if
you had to change your flight or what happened.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
No, what we had to do is go over because
they have the coaches meetings and then they go over
to the stadium and they were showing me my setup
and they're going over comms. Can you hear this, that
and the other is showing me my monitor. So then
all of a sudden it was just back to back
to back. And I was like, man, you're off air.
So that makes sense.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
And that's a completely wonderful, not even excuse, a reason
to not come.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
So you thought I just blew you off? No, I
thought your flight was delayed.

Speaker 6 (08:22):
Oh no.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
So you didn't show and they said, Hey, is there
any other guests that you want? But it was like
an hour before. And I said, I don't know. Why
don't we get the Arkansas coach on? I knew they
were in the middle of practice and I'd never spoken
to him.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
I don't know. You've never had him on anything. I
thought you'd have that relationship, that bond. I didn't want it.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
I've learned not to fly too close to the sun
because there have been times where I've not liked the
person and it's ruined it for me.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
And you do talk a ton of about your school.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
No, I talk honestly about my school.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Very real way. Yeah. But nobody loves them more than me.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Right.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
Nobody loves them more than me. So I say how
I feel. Right.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
I'm honest about it. But I've had experiences where if
I don't like the coach, it ruins it for me.
So I don't even want to know. I don't want
to have a relationship.

Speaker 6 (09:04):
Right.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Because if you like them, then it's going to taint
your view and you're not going to be able to
speak truthfully.

Speaker 5 (09:09):
And Jared Allen, your friend, who I know a little
bit now, is friends with them. And Jared's like, he's
a great guy. And like people that I know have
vouched for him. But I said, let's see if we
can get him on. I knew they were in the
middle of practice, but he jumped on and zoomed for
15 minutes or so.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
It was great. So you missing. Allowed you to get closer.
Created that relationship. To that relationship. So we've been texting
a little bit now. See, this is going to go.
It's going to go. His views have changed. No, no
views have changed. I'm just saying.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
I didn't like it that you missed. I completely understand why.
But then I got the Arkansas coach on.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
It was all good. We got a big slate this week.
You want to talk football? Yeah, let's talk. I mean,
I got these games to me for first week are incredible. Well, obviously, Wednesday,
we got Pat Seahawks. Right? Remember tonight. Yeah, tonight. We
got Pat Seahawks. 49ers Rams. In Australia. Divisional game. Bill's

(09:57):
Texans should be another great game. You have Packers-Vikings divisional game.
Cowboys at Giants. Yeah, that'd be fun. Huge game. Broncos
at Chiefs. Monday night.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
If we do what storyline are you super interested in
week one? And I'll go first here. It can be
any player, any situation. Like, what are you so interested in?
I'm going to go Minnesota Vikings. What in the world
is going to happen with Kyler Murray? slash Justin Jefferson.

(10:28):
Because Justin Jefferson is for sure that dude, right? It's
him or Jamar Chase is the number one receiver. I mean,
I'm going to give one more season to Njigwa.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
And then I can put him in there. I can't
do it after one breakout year.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
I can. That kid's special. I agree. But Jackson Smith
and Jigba, if you're watching this, one more. We didn't
give it to Jamar Chase after one year. All of them.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
There's a lot for me, too, but I can't put
him in the Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, because they've done
it over years. And they've done it with bad quarterbacks
or backup quarterbacks, because Joe Burrow's always hurt. I'm interested
in Minnesota on if Kyler Murray.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Is serviceable.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
Mm-hmm. If they don't win, I think your boy ends
up being on the warm seat, Kevin O'Connell, because he
is a quarterback whisperer. And if anybody can take it, yeah,
it's him. And does Kyler Murray have it, meaning the
want to, because I've read multiple stories where the story
is Kyler Murray shows up on time to practice. The

(11:29):
story is Kyler Murray shows up on time to practice.
Of course it is, because that's the narrative that's been
that way since he signed that contract.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
But he did it. He signed up.

Speaker 5 (11:37):
He did it to himself by not watching tape, by
having a philosophy.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
Playing video games, doing all the things. If the story is.

Speaker 5 (11:44):
Kyler Murray's on time to practice, good for him. That's
a crazy story to have to exist, that someone gets
the news because they're on time.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
That's what they talk about when they talk about him,
because ever since that story has broke years ago when
he signed that contract it just put a black cloud
over this guy about character issues not being a leader
not caring all the different things that you don't want
associated with you as a starting quarterback or a franchise
quarterback and now he's got the ability to right the

(12:15):
ship but he's got to do that he's got to
prove that early on this season because they're loaded with talent.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
And that's the point with Justin Jefferson can Kyler Murray
get him the ball That's all they have to do.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
And Kyler Murray, though, has to move around a bit because, again,
he is so small.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
He can't just drop back. He has proven, though, time
and time again that he can function with inside the pocket.
I mean, the guy is a high level. He's a
rookie of the year. He's taken that team to the
playoffs before. He's had winning seasons now that he's got
caught with the injury bug recently. But at the same time,
Kyler Murray, when he's at his best— He's a really
good quarterback in the NFL. I agree. And I loved him.

Speaker 5 (12:54):
And he also could be the victim of a really
bad organization.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Yes, and we've seen it happen. Sam Darnold, case in point.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Jets.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 5 (13:03):
We could even go through the guys that got drafted
into organizations that never made it, partially because they got
drafted into bad organizations. I mean, I think about Tim
Couch all the time.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 5 (13:12):
If he doesn't go to the Browns, I think he
ends up having a serviceable career. But my story that
I'm thinking about going into week one is... Packers are
in Minnesota, and I'm just interested in seeing Kyler Murray play.
And can they do with Kyler Murray.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
What they did with... Sam Darnold? Sam Darnold.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Yep. Sam Darnold.

Speaker 6 (13:35):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
I kept wanting to say nine, but they didn't do
anything with him.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
No, they didn't. J.J. McCarthy? Yeah.

Speaker 6 (13:42):
No, nine.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
Nine. When he plays, he's nine.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
Oh, he's nine.

Speaker 6 (13:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Okay. So I almost said what they did with J.J. McCarthy, but...
That just never came to fruition. The one game I'm circling,
to be honest with you, I'm excited about all these games,
but it's Broncos at Chiefs. Because the Chiefs, you got
Patrick Mahomes coming back from a major ACL injury. What
does he look like? And everybody is saying this is
either the Chargers division or the Broncos division. But as

(14:07):
you well know, the Chiefs are still the Chiefs, right?
They went out, they got themselves a running back, they've
got the talent. But what do they look like starting
this season? And also Broncos, to be honest with you,
when you look at what they were able to do
last year, did they pick up where they left off?
But this is a statement for the division. I think
early on in the year, between a team that has

(14:28):
been at the top for a long period of time
with the newcomer Broncos last year coming in and whether
or not they can kind of push themselves up to
the top and say, hey, no, this is now our division.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
I think after Houston, Denver has, in my opinion, the
second best defense. You could argue that Denver has the
best defense and I wouldn't even care to fight with you.
So defensively, they're going to be obviously ready. And this
game has been so much of, hey, Mahomes is coming
off injury. Don't forget Bo Nix.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Was hurt too.

Speaker 5 (14:57):
Like he's also rehabbing. And we're seeing if he has
any mobility. We're seeing if they're going to open him
up moving around at all. So it's not just Patrick Mahomes.
Now he's the star of the NFL, you know, top three.
But it's also Bo Nix.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Oh, for sure. And the young quarterback talent there. But
it's also the Chiefs defense that lost both of their
starting cornerbacks. They've got youth at that position. They added
depth on the defensive line. What does that defense look
like against the Broncos who can run the ball? And
like you said, Bo Nix is coming off an injury
as well. They went out and got Waddle. So they
added some depth. That's going to be so cool. Which

(15:34):
is going to be awesome. He's a stud. So, again,
I just think this is a heavyweight match to start
the season in a divisional rivalry that will kind of
set the tone for the rest of the season.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
I was surprised the Chiefs were a three-point favorite, to
be honest with you.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
I am, too, just based on that defense. That defense
gets after the quarterback, and they are stout, to say
the least. I mean, because they just don't give up
a lot of points.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
That game is Monday night at 8 Eastern. Okay, we're
going to come back with Bijan Robinson, and he plays football.
And we like that because today we're talking about football finally.
All right, back in a second. All right, joining us now,

(16:28):
Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson. who has partnered with
Colgate Total to highlight Colgate Total Active Prevention Whitening Toothpaste
and Toothbrush and also emphasized the importance of preventing oral health.
You look like you're at the dentist's office. That is
a clean room. Hey, what are you doing with Colgate?

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Yeah, man.

Speaker 6 (16:47):
You know, one, it's been a great partnership, you know,
being with Colgate, but With it, it's the Colgate Total
Active Prevention System, and it's been amazing, man. You know,
for me, like, it's very important to prevent problems, you know,
health problems before they start on the field. And, you know,
it's a part of my everyday life. So with Colgate,
you know, preventing those oral health problems before they start is,

(17:10):
you know, something that I take pride in. And with
the Colgate Total Active Prevention, like, you know, it's something
that I want everybody to be a part of. I
want everybody to buy, to grab. um and understand just
how important it is for not just their lives but
their families lives everybody around them so um it's been
one of those partnerships that i take a lot of

(17:31):
pride in and that i want everybody to to you
know hopefully purchase whether online or in stores um and
just enjoy it man it's great.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
Well your teeth look great first and foremost and i
definitely need some uh dental help myself. I've had like
eight cavities over the years. It's not good. I need
to get some Colgate in my life. But with that
being said, I have big news this week. Two was
named the starter. How's everybody feeling about that? What's your
confidence level going into week one with two at the helm?

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Yeah, man. Very confident, man.

Speaker 6 (18:04):
Like, just being able to practice with him for the
past couple months has been, you know, a great thing,
not just for me, but for the guys. You know,
it's obvious that his experience in this league, you know,
really played an effect in his success. And, you know,
even just talking to him just about route details, run details, like,

(18:27):
really everything in his bed has been pretty special. But,
you know, I think just him having confidence in us
and making sure that, you know, when he just gets
the ball in our hands, like we'll do the rest
for him and, you know, make sure we make him
look good is really important.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
For this offense.

Speaker 6 (18:44):
But, you know, I know he's very excited. We're all
very excited for him. And we're all very excited to
play with him and all the guys on Sunday, man.
So it's going to be cool.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
Is it generally, I know Pennix is as well, but
playing with a left-handed quarterback, Is that different for you?
Do you have to go into the game thinking slightly
different because of how he's going to draw back or
how he's going to hand the ball off?

Speaker 3 (19:05):
I mean, so I'm a lefty. So, you know, it's
good for me. I love.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
It.

Speaker 6 (19:11):
For me, it doesn't really matter, like, what the spin is.
Righty or lefty, you know, you got to catch the ball.
You know, you got to whip the ball in the same. Like,
so for Mike and for Tua, like, having those guys,
you know, in training camp and just throwing the football, like,
I think it comes off with a great zip.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
To the throwing motion, but it doesn't change for me.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
There's been a lot of change with you guys this offseason, obviously,
from the front office to the new head coach in
Kevin Stefanski, a guy who actually I was with in Minnesota.
How has that transition been? How have you guys been
able to adopt what he's been preaching to you guys?

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Yeah, I mean, he's been great, man.

Speaker 6 (19:54):
The thing I like about him is just how fair
he is as a head coach.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
He looks at everything.

Speaker 6 (20:01):
He looks at the total package of everything from the offense,
the defense, special teams, and obviously with him being the
offensive line, I've gotten to learn a lot from him,
especially with him being a running back coach and even
my running back coach that, I've been with my whole
career here at the Falcons, like him getting to learn
from that too. So, you know, he's very intentional with

(20:22):
the details. He wants, you know, things done a certain way,
but you can tell like every single play that him
and Tommy Reese, ROC, like wants to call, wants to
be explosive, wants to get us in space, wants us
to be, you know, a mismatch problem all over the field.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
So that's what, that's what I like about him a lot.

Speaker 6 (20:40):
And, you know, they're not just calling plays to, you know,
call a play, but they're trying to, especially with Tommy.
He's trying to call play to make it in the
end zone. And I really appreciate that with him as well.
So it's been cool.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
Did you dedicate a lot of your time in high
school and even in college just catching balls? Or were
you just naturally a good receiver out of the backfield?

Speaker 6 (21:00):
Yeah, I think, you know, it was a gift God's
given me, man. I played a lot of, you know,
flag football 7-on-7. And I played strictly receiver in the
off-seasons in high school since I.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Was a kid. So, Something I've always done.

Speaker 6 (21:16):
I think just the coaches that I've had always realized
that talent and realized what I could do out wide
or catch it from the backfield.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
They utilized me a certain way. They exploited it.

Speaker 6 (21:29):
It's been something that's been effective against the defense since
I was in high school, Pop Warner College, now in
the NFL. It's been a special transition to Being able
to get to do that and to just be effective
all over the field and to be a mismatch all
over the field is definitely a lesson.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
I have to ask, I went back and looked at
some of your high school stats. I mean, your senior year,
you rushed for over 2,200 yards. You had 38 touchdowns
and only 126 carries. That's 17.7 average. Did you guys
play anybody, or were you just that dominant? Because some

(22:10):
of these stats that you have here, there was one
game you rushed for 430 yards with six touchdowns on
13 carries. I mean, who are we playing here?

Speaker 6 (22:21):
I mean, that same exact team, they had a lot
of B-mole recruits. I don't know if that meant anything
back then. But, you know, we played some competition. We,
you know, played some teams that, you know, obviously we
were that much better than. But that's what made Arizona

(22:41):
High School Football fun, man. Like, especially when I was there,
you know, we had a lot of talent in Arizona. Like, from, like,
the Keely Ringo's, Brock Purdy's. Like, we played a lot
of guys, man. So, it's cool to get to see
where they're at now. But, yeah, definitely in high school,
it was sometimes it was just, You know, we knew

(23:02):
we were getting out of halftime.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
By who we were about to play against.

Speaker 6 (23:06):
But, you know, it was definitely a fun deal to have,
you know, a good nine carries in the first half
and be done.

Speaker 5 (23:15):
Was the speed of the game, was it so different
going high school to college or more different going college
to the NFL?

Speaker 6 (23:22):
It was different high school to college. That was the
drastic speed of the game. Because like I just said,
we went from playing guys that maybe weren't as athletic
or as skilled in some positions to immediately playing guys
that were all fast, were all big and strong, were smarter,

(23:44):
and were the best at their high score or wherever
state they were at. So that was definitely the biggest difference,
the biggest jump that I had to get used to.
But it took about that training camp, um, and that's
like half of that first year, especially because it was
COVID to, for the game to really slow down for me.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Uh, and then from college and NFL, like that's, that's
not that much of a difference.

Speaker 6 (24:10):
Uh, you know, guys are fast, but I think the
only difference is like guys are smarter in the NFL
and you don't see too many guys like miss their
gaps or, or miss their responsibilities. But, you know, other
than that, what you go in the NFL game, slow down,
You know, it just, you know, it grows your confidence
that much more.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Going back to coming out of high school, you're the
number one recruit in the nation at your position. What
made you pick Texas and coach Sarkeesian and want to
be a Longhorn?

Speaker 6 (24:40):
Yeah, man, that was just a God decision, man. Like
he placed it in my heart. To go there from
the beginning, since I've stepped foot on there my junior
year of high school. And Texas actually wasn't a place
I was going to go. It was actually a place
that I wasn't going to go. They weren't in my
list of anything. And so my head coach, you know,

(25:01):
he just said, like, what about Texas? You know, you
don't talk about Texas much.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Like, is that an interest? And I said, I mean, yes, no,
kind of. I don't know.

Speaker 6 (25:11):
So he actually... you know, booked a trip to go
to Texas to go to the game, the spring game.
And we went my junior year. And, you know, after that,
the rest was history. Like, you know, I had Stan
Drayton as my running back coach. We had an amazing relationship.
Tom Herman was the head coach at the time. So,
you know, it was cool to like see those guys

(25:32):
and talk to those guys and get recruited by them.
And then obviously after my first year there is when
Sark came in and I had him for two years
and just our relationship then and now has been you know,
second to none. But, you know, it's obviously the decision
that I didn't think about was more of a 40-year, like,
lifetime decision more than, you know, me thinking about just

(25:53):
three years of college, which is cool.

Speaker 5 (25:56):
Game day, do you have any superstitions or what is
your regimen like game day as far as is it
so laid out that, you know, regardless of game time,
you're going to be doing this at this time?

Speaker 6 (26:06):
Yeah, like, praying for my family and just spending, like,
some time with God in the morning, like, That's the
thing I have to do.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
I can't not do it. It's something I've been doing
since I was in high school, a kid.

Speaker 6 (26:21):
So making sure I'm praying for my family and just
talking to my family before games is definitely something that
I love to do. And then just going out there
and warming up on my own, just playing music, playing
some very chill, soft house music. It's something I always
do just to kind of just relax my mind because

(26:41):
I know the games are chaotic. So I just relax
my mind, just chill on the field, like make sure
I'm cutting, make sure I like see where my foot
places in the ground. But that's, those are things that I,
that I can't not do before, before.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
Take us in the mind of a running back. When
you're sitting back there, you know, you have your reads,
maybe it's a three technique or a linebacker and how
you envision that and how that makes you so successful
because you're obviously been incredibly successful these first three years,
and you do it as good as anybody does in
the NFL. But talk to us just about your mindset
and how you visually see the game.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
Yeah, so for me, you know, for every run scheme
or even pass scheme, like, I do have to see
where my reads are because schemes change, so my reads
change too.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
But I think the biggest thing for.

Speaker 6 (27:30):
Me that has really helped me a lot, especially these
past couple years, Like, I try to go, I know
where the free hitter is pretty much every play. Like,
I know who I have to get past. You know,
I know the blocking scheme and how everybody's blocked up.
And I know, like, that one guy that I have

(27:51):
to make miss. And just knowing where he's at, like,
that's been something that I was thinking probably did. And
that's really helped my game a lot. Especially last year. Like,
I could point where the free hitter was. I could
point him out. And I just felt like as soon
as he comes free or comes loose, like, I have

(28:12):
a plan to attack and to make a miss or to,
you know, do whatever move comes to mind in that
split second. But I think that's the thing that's definitely
helped me, you know, gain confidence in my game, especially
in the run game.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
Do you have any personal goals this season?

Speaker 6 (28:29):
I do.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
I do. I write it down.

Speaker 6 (28:32):
I don't really say them out loud, but I'll tell
you one, and it's just be better than last season.

Speaker 4 (28:39):
Now, I've got a question. Just be better than last season.
This kid is amazing, by the way. Do you play
fantasy football?

Speaker 3 (28:47):
I do not.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
Oh, man. I was going to say, how great would
it be to draft yourself? Because let's be honest, you're
either the number one pick or the second pick in
the draft every year.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
Yeah, it's crazy.

Speaker 6 (28:59):
Like, where fantasy football gone, uh, even just these past
couple of years, like, and just how big it is. Um,
you know, I, I went to Japan, uh, a couple
of years ago after the season. And even the people
in Japan were like, they don't even watch football, but
they pull up their phone. And it was like, you're

(29:20):
my fantasy player. Like, I was like, this.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
Is it reaching all the way here in Japan and
in all these other countries. Uh, it's, it's pretty special.
It's pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
What about a team goal? Do you guys have a goal?

Speaker 5 (29:31):
Is it simply to win the division or do you
guys go full out Super Bowl?

Speaker 6 (29:36):
No, we definitely had those goals, but I think the
goals that we've been harping on a lot is.
Trying to be almost perfect in execution in every single game.
Executing at a very high level because the execution is
where the fun comes and we're doing what we're supposed

(29:57):
to do and attacking those details the right way, especially
this winning against the Steelers and then everything else. The
wins come with it. Your whole team goals come with
it in totality. So I think it's just us making
sure that we're executing at a very high level every
single week is the goal that we have in place.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
What are some of the keys to success this weekend?

Speaker 3 (30:22):
Yeah, it's the physicality.

Speaker 6 (30:24):
We've been harping on it, being the more physical team.
Because when we do that and when we, like I
just said, execute, you know, at a very high level
and taking it one play at a time. Like that's when,
that's when everything works in the game. And that's when your,

(30:45):
your run game is working at a high level. That's
when the pass game opens up and we can find
those reads. So, you know, I think just, just taking
the one play at a time and, and obviously we,
we have the most respect for, for that defense. So
we're going to go in there and, and, and, and
bring that confidence with ourselves and all that we worked

(31:06):
on in training camp and OTAs.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
It just brings light on the field.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
The Colgate Total Active Prevention Products help prevent oral health
problems like gingivitis and cavities before they start. And the
portfolio is available at all major retailers. And you can
go to Colgate.com or follow at ColgateUS on social media.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
But, John, I really appreciate the time. Have a great season. And, yeah,
I hope.

Speaker 5 (31:29):
Man, I hope your teeth stay as pretty white in
a year as.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
They are now, man. You got it going.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
I appreciate you guys, man. It's always great talking to
you guys.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
I got to ask you one more thing. Who do
you got in Texas, Ohio State this weekend?

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Oh, man.

Speaker 6 (31:42):
I think we're going to win 28-21.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
That's my prediction. Love it.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
Love it.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Thanks, Bajon.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Yeah, appreciate you guys.

Speaker 5 (32:07):
All right, looking at all the games from week one,
I'm going to go Buccaneers and Bengals. Let's talk about
that game. I'm going to bring up the two quarterbacks. One,
Joe Burrow, would love for him to stay healthy longer
than one quarter.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
Please.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Of the season.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
Like, if he's healthy and....

Speaker 5 (32:25):
The Bengals have improved on defense a bit.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Definitely invested in the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 5 (32:29):
Did I think the Bengals will be a real threat
in the AFC? I would love to see them be
a threat. I would love for Burrow to play a
full season.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
I mean, Burrow's the only.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Guy to go one-on-one with Mahomes and actually beat him.
Lost Super Bowl, but still, I want to see Cincinnati
be healthy and give it a real run and have
an actual defense. On the other side of that, we
got the Bucs and their quarterback situation where... He's got
his deal.

Speaker 4 (32:53):
He bet on himself. Yeah. He's got his deal. I
like that.

Speaker 5 (32:58):
I think the Bucs are going to be good. They're
playing in a division that isn't good.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
It's definitely a winnable division. No doubt about that.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
I think Baker Mayfield and the Bucs can win that division.
There's a lot of really strong games week one.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
Really strong games. And that wasn't even at the top
of my list when we first went through these, but.

Speaker 5 (33:16):
It's such the opposite of college football where there's like
a couple really good ones and all bad ones.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
Especially week one or week two in college football. It's
like you might get two ranked teams playing each other.
What was it? Ole Miss. Louisville and Ole Miss. Louisville. Yeah,
those are the only ranked. Those are the only two
ranked teams that were playing in the top 25.

Speaker 5 (33:31):
So I'm going Buccaneers and Bengals as my number one
interested game. The Bengals are a three and a half
point favorite in Cincinnati.

Speaker 4 (33:38):
All right, you're up.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
All right.

Speaker 4 (33:40):
I'm going to go back to the Bills at Texans.
You've got a new coach with Joe Brady. What does
that look like? It's going to be a new defensive
scheme as well for the Bills. Can they put that
side of the ball together quickly? We know about Josh
Allen and what he's got going, but what does this
team and how they come out and their identity is
under Joe Brady? Because we kind of had a feel

(34:02):
under Sean McDermott what it was going to be. But
this is going to be a new regime starting over.
And so what do the Bills look like against the
Texans team that we know we talked about? They're the
number one or number two ranked defense in all of
the NFL. And then also for the Texans, I think
we want to see what C.J. Stroud can go out
and do, right? He didn't have a great playoff. It's understandable,

(34:23):
but they need him to play well to get to
where they want to be, which is a Super Bowl contender.

Speaker 5 (34:27):
I think I'm interested to see what they want from C.J. Stroud,
meaning if they only want a game manager. So maybe
he doesn't need to perform at a really high level
if the defense is actually in control of the game.
For me, my interest is also in Stroud, but it's
what do they want and expect from him more than
what's he just going to do? Because I don't think

(34:49):
they're going to need him to do a Josh Allen,
a Joe Burrow type offense or just to.

Speaker 4 (34:55):
Even be that aggressive. elite of a weapon. I don't
think they're going to need it. Well, you can always
manage a game and that's a huge part of every quarterback.
But at the end of the day, when you go
up against a team like the Bills and you're down
by six points in the fourth quarter, you need a drive.
That's when he has to show up. So you can
be a game manager with the type of defense. But
when you go up against the elite competition in the NFL,

(35:16):
at some point, you're going to be asked to win game.
You're going to have to put the team on your
back and prove that you can go down and win
those type of games.

Speaker 5 (35:24):
Yeah, it's Josh Allen versus the texans d but josh
allen with new dj moore which it's interesting if he's
going to be any good or not because i think
chicago was happy to see him go but i think
last year obviously chicago's offense existed but the year before
he didn't get to do much.

Speaker 4 (35:42):
He didn't do much they didn't feature the.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
Offense didn't do much it was a rookie quarterback it was.

Speaker 4 (35:46):
And he had a previous relationship with joe brady he
knows his skill set knows how to utilize them and
he's kind of that swiss army knife too right you
don't always just line them up outside but he's one
of those guys get can get to the outside on
speed sweeps. You can throw him screen passes. He's really
good with the ball in his hand. So it'll be
interesting to see how they utilize him.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
My next game is going to be Cowboys at Giants.
Cowboys are a three-point favorite in New York or New Jersey.
I'm interested just to see the Cowboys. Like, there's not
a lot of talk from Jerry Jones about the Cowboys
right now because I think he knows they're good.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
And I think.

Speaker 5 (36:23):
Everyone expects the Cowboys to actually be at their foundation
a really strong team this year Which isn't always the
case because people love to talk cowboy if they're bad
if they're great I feel like now people are just
kind of wait and see on the Cowboys because there
is an expectation for them to win 10 11 games.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
There is and their offense is gonna be elite. I
have no question about that. It's how does your defense perform?
You've invested a lot of money in the defense. It's
got a new look, a lot of new personnel. Can
they be a team that goes out there week in
and week out and gets stops when they need to?
Because this offense is going to put up a ton
of points. So to me, I'm going to be watching

(37:06):
this defense, see how much better they are from even
a season ago, which isn't going to be really hard
to do to get better at that point. But then
also on the other side, the Giants and Jackson Dart,
And their offensive unit, Scadaboo, will be back. They've got
a lot of good players on that side of the ball,
but they're young. They've got a good offensive line. And
then that defensive front, which is one of the, when

(37:27):
you look at it on paper, it's one of the
most ferocious defensive fronts. Can they affect Dak Prescott in
the pocket?

Speaker 5 (37:33):
The game is Sunday at 7.20 Central Time.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
All right, your second game. All right, I'm going with
the Bears at Panthers. Caleb William coming off a huge
year last year. They won a lot of close games
last year. I think that they've got an explosive, explosive
offensive unit. Can they recapture that? And then the Panthers, again,
they had a successful year last year as well. Bryce Young,
we talked about him coming off a good year. Can

(37:58):
they get more explosive? They've got a new running back
in the backfield, but I think this is going to
be an interesting game because I think that they're pretty
equally matched. Both of these teams are looking to take
that next step in the progression.

Speaker 5 (38:14):
And I'm wondering if a guy like Luther Burden really
comes on this year. You know, he was awesome in Missouri.
He was a rookie last year. But you have Luther Burden,
Colson Loveland. You have these guys that really played well
last year that Man, if they go.

Speaker 4 (38:28):
To really good.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Right.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
And even if one of them is great while the
other is really good. And Roman Aduzzi as well.

Speaker 5 (38:35):
So they do have the weapons. But man, if they
level up, they could really be dangerous offensively. I would
just hate to play there.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
It's so cold. I hate the cold, guys. It's not
cold yet, though. I hate the cold.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
My final game is going to be.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
I don't want to pick the 49ers Rams because that
game is early in the week.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
And it's the Australia game. that's the wild card in
this game is when you have to travel to Australia.
And I think the 49ers went over there early. The Rams.
delayed that and didn't go over as early.

Speaker 5 (39:06):
They're getting there five minutes before the game starts. Their
plan is landing in the stadium.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
So the impact of the travel and the time change
and all the different elements that go into this game,
it's not like you're playing here in the States and
you're in a normal time zone and you've already understand
your schedule. The schedules are going to be messed up.
First game of the year, they both are very familiar
with each other. They play each other often. The coaches
know each other's scheme. So it's It'll be a really

(39:31):
interesting game, I think, between those two teams. But again,
how can you not get excited about watching the Rams
and seeing what they do, especially with all... Miles Garrett
coming over, two new cornerbacks back there, because that was
their Achilles heel last year. How did he not mention
Aaron Donald? Oh, yeah, that guy. I just don't think
he's going to play that much yet. He's still there, though.
He's still there. Yeah, seeing those two guys on the

(39:52):
field at the same time will be special.

Speaker 5 (39:54):
So the game that I am going to do is
going to be Saints at Lions. Lions are a seven-point favorite.
That is a big number. The Lions are expected to
do really well this year. That being said, I just
am curious what Tyler Shuck does. He looked great the
second half of the year. I would say really the
last third of the season for the Saints, which were terrible,
but he wasn't, which actually made them not terrible. So

(40:16):
I'm anxious to see what Tyler Shuck does as the
actual starting quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. So that
game's Sunday at noon.

Speaker 4 (40:23):
All right, your last game. Last game, I gotta go
Patriots at Seahawks, obviously. We're going back to just a
few months ago when we had the Super Bowl. Seahawks
dominated them for most of that game. Do the Patriots
look better up front? Can they protect their man Drake May?
What does A.J. Brown bring to the table? How is
he going to be an impactful player in this game?

(40:43):
And then, of course, you got Christian Gonzalez on the
defensive side of the ball. He signed a little deal,
didn't he? A brand new deal. I think that he's
going to be motivated to go out there and be
a lockdown, and he'll have his work cut out for
him against Jackson Smith at Jukebox. It's so nice to
actually have football. It's so nice, right? So much to
look forward to. Now, are you one of those guys

(41:04):
that'll red zone it? I have both going.

Speaker 5 (41:07):
I have red zone going and I also have Sunday
ticket where I can have the games that I want
to see specifically. Right. So we're in a league where
we draft teams and if they win, you win money,
but if they don't win, you lose a bunch of money.
And so I like to watch my specific games, but
also have fantasy going.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
So I like to have red zone. I have upstairs.

Speaker 5 (41:27):
I have basically a gambling room where it's multiple TVs
all built on the wall.

Speaker 4 (41:32):
Yes.

Speaker 6 (41:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (41:33):
With money on every game.

Speaker 3 (41:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
Red zone really works out for me, especially with the
one o'clock games that are all simultaneously playing that you
can just get the action when you need the action.
And it's going to, I always need the action. I
need the action, Dave. I always need the action.

Speaker 6 (41:47):
All right.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
Let's do a couple of situational awarenesses. Yes, sir. I'll
go first.

Speaker 5 (41:50):
You were just named the starting quarterback of the Falcons,
but the coach says nothing beyond that is guaranteed. Hmm.

Speaker 4 (41:57):
Does that change how you play week one?

Speaker 3 (41:59):
You hope not.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Hopefully you go out there and dominate and get yourself
another week. But again, in this circumstance, in this situation,
when Pennix is just coming back from his injury, you
know it's probably going to take some time for him
to get up to speed, especially with not having full
speed reps throughout this offseason, that it's an opportunity for
you to go out there and take control. Because again,

(42:21):
there's a lot of question marks with Pennix as well.
So if I'm going to get an opportunity to go
in there and play It doesn't change how I'm thinking
about it. I'm just going to go in and try
to be totally prepared, understand the offense, what's being asked
of me, and execute at a high level.

Speaker 3 (42:36):
Okay. Ready?

Speaker 4 (42:37):
All right. Someone in your fantasy league asked for a
trade before the first game. Are you listening or shutting
it down immediately?

Speaker 5 (42:44):
So here's the thing about me. I'm always listening to
everything all the time. I'm known in my league as
the guy who probably wills and deals too much. And
sometimes it has cost me leagues and sometimes it has
won me leagues. But the thing about me is I
got my head on a swivel.

Speaker 4 (42:56):
You want to talk? I'm ready to talk. You have
something to say? I'm ready to listen.

Speaker 5 (42:59):
And I'm going to have something to say later.

Speaker 4 (43:01):
But you're making a trade before the first game.

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Yeah, maybe so.

Speaker 5 (43:04):
Maybe you have a player that is questionable. Maybe you
drafted someone, you didn't realize he was out four weeks.
Maybe you got a quarterback like Josh Allen, but you
have a backup like, say, Tyler Shuck.

Speaker 4 (43:13):
And you're like, you know what?

Speaker 5 (43:14):
I think if I trade Josh Allen, who I drafted
in the third round, I can get me a decent
running back and I'll just kind of go with Shuck.
So I do think there are reasons for that. But
it doesn't matter what week.

Speaker 4 (43:24):
I'm listening. You call me offseason. You don't even have
a team. I'm listening. Strategist. The ultimate strategist.

Speaker 6 (43:28):
I'm listening.

Speaker 4 (43:29):
You know what I love is we have a league,
and this is for my 10-year-old son, and it's with
all of his buddies. And it's amazing when we drop
the kids off at school and somebody made a trade
on the waiver wire at like 9.30.

Speaker 3 (43:43):
In the morning.

Speaker 4 (43:43):
I was like, your kid didn't make the trade. It's
supposed to be for them. You can't GM the hell
out of their team. And so they finally had to
make a rule like you can't trade or make acquisitions
Outside of school?

Speaker 3 (43:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (43:55):
You're the person that's supposed to be running the team.
Is that school? Is that school? But the dad's out
there making trades, getting acquisitions. I was like, what? It's
totally the kid's team? Totally the kid's team. It's not
like we're doing it together. But of course, they're 10.
So there's some advice to be given. But not trades
being made or acquisitions taking place when the kids are
at school.

Speaker 5 (44:30):
Your coach installs a new play the day before the
first game and he wants it in the opening script.
Are you excited about running it or are you asking
him to save it?

Speaker 4 (44:39):
Asking him to save it, for sure. Especially if it's
something that I've never seen, never had a rep at.
It's not only myself, it's the wide receivers, it's the
running back, offensive line. You know, if it's just a
normal protection, it's a normal protection.

Speaker 3 (44:50):
But again.

Speaker 4 (44:52):
I'm visual and also somebody that likes to see it
at first. Unless it's a no-brainer walk-in touchdown, you've shown
me evidence. It's very clear. When we get an opportunity
to walk through it a few times, then, okay, if
we need it, put it in. But hopefully you're holding
it for sure. Would they do that? Nope. Okay. No, no.

(45:13):
I mean, the latest you'd probably get is a Friday practice.
A Friday practice, somebody might come in For instance, Todd
Haley came in, we were playing the Minnesota Vikings, and
we were trying to take a shot play down the field,
but it really was meant for a max protection, all-out blitz,

(45:35):
and looking at the analytics and the percentages, they didn't
really bring blitz zero, which is what you want it for, right?
When you're getting heated up, you have a double move
on the outside, max protect, strong play action, and so
we had a discussion about it, and at that point, Um,
we decided to hold it, which was probably a good decision,
but it doesn't, it doesn't have, it really doesn't happen

(45:57):
that much. All right. You're watching close game at a
friend's house and he changes the channel to check another
score during commercial. Do you say something? No, I just
pull it off my phone.

Speaker 3 (46:08):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (46:09):
Just to make sure. And, uh, if it's commercial, no,
but let's say my phone is for some reason, um, lost. Oh,
my God.

Speaker 4 (46:17):
I'd just go home.

Speaker 5 (46:18):
But still, let's just say it's lost. I would just
start timing the commercial.

Speaker 4 (46:23):
Okay, one minute. All right, let's go flip back. Yeah,
let's get it back to the game that matters.

Speaker 5 (46:30):
How did you feel about ESPN taking the ticker off?
Did you guys even notice it?

Speaker 4 (46:34):
Yeah, I did. Only because somebody said something. Me too,
I think. Same thing.

Speaker 5 (46:37):
Yeah, and they made a big deal about, hey, we're
removing it. There's a great point, though, because we're not
watching that to actually find out what scores are it's
just kind of a third dairy entertainment device right because
if we want to know score we pull up on
your phone yeah so i never would have thought to
pull it what did they think the value add by

(46:58):
pulling it was more more for the screen yeah more
concentrated yeah and there's just more room for the game
i guess more grass to be seen yeah i didn't
mind when they had the ticker and you kind of
see in the other scores sometimes it was like indie
euro ping pong and they show scores on that. I'm like, bro,
I'm trying to watch this game here. I don't like crap.

Speaker 3 (47:15):
Stop.

Speaker 4 (47:16):
Stop. Final question.

Speaker 5 (47:18):
You're at dinner with another couple. They split the check
completely wrong in your favor. Do you point it out
or just let them pay it? I probably wouldn't even
have checked if they just already split the check.

Speaker 3 (47:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (47:27):
Yeah. I just would have been like, because normally I
try to pick up the tab if we go out
with people, especially the first few times, unless it's super
awkward and where you got 30 people there and you're
trying to figure out the check. But If they just
hand me a check and I'd pay it, I wouldn't
even check probably how much it was split and which ways.
But if I noticed it, I'd say something. But you

(47:48):
probably wouldn't notice it. I probably wouldn't notice it. You're
such a baller. You don't even look at that stuff. No,
I probably wouldn't notice it. I just expect it to
be right. You don't even see price tags. You give
the waitress comes back with three checks and just hands
them to you. You don't even look at it. You
just go, okay, how much do I owe?

Speaker 3 (48:01):
Boom.

Speaker 4 (48:01):
Tip them out and rock and roll. I mean, to you, Bezos,
the world just exists.

Speaker 5 (48:04):
Oh, stop it.

Speaker 4 (48:05):
You don't have to buy anything. Dude, I've got kids
in private school. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (48:08):
All right, last one.

Speaker 4 (48:09):
All right. You hit a great drive on hole 10
and your buddy says, that's the best shot you've hit
all day. Do you take it as a compliment or
an insult?

Speaker 5 (48:19):
No, I go, did you forget on six when I
chipped out within four feet?

Speaker 4 (48:22):
Did you forget?

Speaker 5 (48:23):
I always find a way for compliments to insult me.

Speaker 4 (48:27):
For example. I can see that. Yeah, for example.

Speaker 5 (48:30):
Yesterday, I had a guy I know reach out and say, hey,
I was listening to your podcast about every year of
the 90s. So I did this country music podcast and
we have one for the year of 1990. We have
one for the year of 1991. It is a 10
part series. We released the first five. And we did
the top 10 things in country music that year because
the 90s are probably the most transcendent decade in country

(48:51):
music history.

Speaker 6 (48:52):
Right.

Speaker 5 (48:53):
And so Kevin and myself worked very hard on this
podcast for many months. And we put it out, put
the first five episodes up. I was getting a lot
of compliments. But the person that messaged me to say,
because I knew him, to say it was really good.
He goes, hey, this is one of my favorite things
you've ever done. And he goes, now think about it.
I think it's probably my favorite thing you've ever done

(49:14):
on podcast. And I find a way to be insulted
and go, I've done stuff that's way.

Speaker 4 (49:17):
Better than this. You can just take the compliment.

Speaker 5 (49:22):
I wasn't purposefully seeking it. I feel that in my ribs.
I'm like, oh, he thinks my other stuff's not good.
That's naturally how I feel. I can rationalize and go,
that's not what he meant. And also, who cares? If
that's his favorite thing, that's still something that you did.
Take the compliment. I can take my years of therapy

(49:42):
and put it To use in these moments. But I
initially feel like, oh, no, my feelings are hurt. Or, no,
you have no idea. You don't have good taste. You
don't even know what I've done that's good. So, yeah,
I can find a compliment and for sure find a
way to make myself feel worse about it. It has
created an all-time chip that exists on my shoulder. I

(50:05):
don't have to go and search for one. It finds me.

Speaker 4 (50:08):
Man, I'd love to be a fly on the wall
in your therapy sessions. I think my therapist sometimes is
really enamored with me. She's like, wow, you're a project.

Speaker 3 (50:17):
Sexist. It's a man.

Speaker 6 (50:18):
Whoa.

Speaker 5 (50:19):
Whoa.

Speaker 4 (50:19):
I don't even know why that'd be sexist either way.
But yeah, I just, I just say that. Did I
say she?

Speaker 6 (50:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (50:23):
Yeah. But there's no sexism there. Um, okay. That's it
for today. Thanks to Bajon Robinson. Thanks to Matt Castle.
Thanks to Kickoff Kevin. Thanks to Brandon Ray. I'm Bobby Bones.
