Speaker 4 (00:59):
Yes, sir.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
What's going on, man?
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Welcome, sir.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I appreciate it. It's been a long time.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Yeah, it's been a long time since you've been here.
The last time you were here was with our good friend, Ruchi. Yeah, 2021.
You guys had an amazing joint album that dropped.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Courtesy of us, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
There was bong smoke, and yeah. Yeah, it was a
good time.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
When you look back at yourself back then, because I
feel like you've matured a lot. I feel like you
were definitely on some, like, you were having a lot
of fun back then. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
You had a reputation.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
I feel like you've matured quite a bit, though.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
When you look back at your old, like, you know,
interviews or just, like, think about that era. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Like, how do you reflect on that era of your career?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
I guess, like, myself now looking at it, sometimes it'd
be hard to watch. Like, what the fuck was I doing? But, like,
I guess as the artist. Like, the AZ Chike now
looking at the AZ Chike then is like, what the
fuck was I doing? But just me looking at it,
I'm like, damn, I needed to go through that.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
You had to run it.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
I had to do what I had to do. I
think that's why I'm able to be so calm now. Yeah, yeah.
I did everything I needed to do. Disrespect, over fun,
being ratchet, getting drunk every day, you name it.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Were you drunk a lot back then?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Bottles of tequila?
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, thinking nothing of it. I remember I had my
first alcohol withdrawal. We was drinking so much. all 2020, like,
COVID year. COVID, we were drinking so much. I remember
one night, I just didn't drink. I started sweating. I
was like, what the fuck? It hit me until the
next day. I'm like, damn, I think I just had
alcohol withdrawal. That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yeah, everybody, like, honestly, COVID is what cracked off the entire, like,
wave of tequila.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
It was like, now people were like, I didn't even
know what Casamigos was before COVID.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Nah, facts. I remember you couldn't find, like, No, 42.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
The 42, the Casas, all that shit, all cracked.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
You couldn't find it in the industry. I was going deep,
like East L.A. We had a liquor store deep East L.A.
that had everything.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Everybody had the PPP money.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I remember people were making records and shooting music videos.
I forget who had the music video at the Bank
of America.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
He probably in jail.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
No, no.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
It's a bigger artist.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Oh, for real?
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Yeah, bigger L.A.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Artist. What?
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Who was?
Speaker 4 (03:24):
But it was definitely... You had to be in L.A.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't remember that one. That's burnt.
I had a homie who was from.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
AZ who has, he's free. But he used to come
to L.A., bro. And he would cash out the homeless
dudes for all their info. And he had like three
or four addresses.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
He know something.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
He had some addresses out here. And like, I remember
he would come to L.A. and just book the studio
for like five days. By the way, the studio business
was booming.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Boomish.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Everybody had fucking money for studios.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
It made me so upset.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
So upset.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I couldn't get a session for shit. You got to
think about, I'm coming off the 2019 year I was having.
We were fresh off tour with Shoreline. I was able
to book sessions whenever I want. Shout out my boy, Ivy.
He had a studio downtown. It's been a few studios
like that, though, that I feel like I done turned up.
And then after that, like 2020 came, them motherfuckers was booked.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yeah, and it was always, like, because my studio in
North Hollywood, like, we would always have the worst guys
who just were experimenting with music and just, like, setting
money on fire.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
And we'd be like, yeah, sure, man. Like, yeah, we'll
give you that.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Is any of them doing good now?
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Not a single one.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
That's scary.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
That's so scary.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
There was one dude.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Who was, like, our number one client. He probably spent, like,
$ 25, 000 on our studio and, like, The worst artist. It
was like he was.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Just living out his childhood dreams every night. I don't
know if the music ever came out. My homie sold
him hella beats.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
You know what's so crazy? You see a lot of
talk about hip-hop and what rap is today. I promise you,
it's the most imitated and replicated music.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Culture.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
I feel like it's always been that way.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I was saying in an interview with Cy Hatter Prince,
and he was putting it in terms of how basketball is.
Some niggas go overseas and play in China.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Right.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Some niggas play in the NBA. Some niggas Summer League.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Right.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Some niggas just play recreational at the park.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Some people have a hoop hanging from their office door.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
And they shoot paper into it and say Kobe.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Right, right, right. That's what I'm saying. That's what it
is with rap too, but it's like- Yeah, for sure.
It's blurred lines. As soon as I say you rap,
it's like either they think you're absolute shit or you
got to be the biggest.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, and the other thing is you'll meet people through
other shit.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
This happens to me all the time.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I might meet somebody through the Mushroom Game, and they
won't tell me they're a rapper for six months.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
I'll be like, oh, yo, by the way, Kev, you
know I just put a song out. Would you mind
checking it out? And I'm like, you put a song out?
Speaker 1 (06:15):
What the fuck are you doing? You already driving a
fucking S500. Why are you trying to rap?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
It's crazy, man.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
It's not how it was back in the day. Back
in the day, you rapped because you, you feel me?
I think it's more of a fad now.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
How cool has it been for you to see, because
obviously you were a part of that early, like, I
would say, SoundCloud LA era, obviously being on tour with Shoreline,
being around those guys. How cool is it to fast
forward and kind of just see gz and phoenix having
a new moment as the group separately facts you have
in your moment um it feels like there's been a
(06:53):
lot of the guys in that class of la hip-hop
that have kind of stood the test of time and
obviously you're one of them yeah um and like some
of them are obviously the opposite you know.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Yeah uh i think it's beautiful man i remember i
was i was telling the homies in like 2023 like
this is the the sink or swim stage like it's
going to be, you know, stand the test of time.
Only the strong last. I said this in 2023. I
remember drunk, geeked out of my mind in the club,
huddling the homies. Hey!
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Right.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
These better get right right now. But it's beautiful to see, bro.
And I think it's important too, right? It can be
motivation for our other peers too. This shit's still going on.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Right.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Pulled through for sure.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Yeah. For you, can you kind of point to a
moment where you realized it was like, okay, it is
sink or swim time. Was it like something where you
were trying to figure out what the new music was
going to sound like? Maybe you were unsure what the
forecast of the hip hop shit was.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
I think it was more personal, the relationships I had
with the homies. After 2022, we didn't separate per se.
But everybody kind of like, you went over there. It
wasn't how we was. Like, we was 30 deep every day.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Right.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
And it's everybody, though. It's not like just entourage. It's
like the niggas. Like, you know what I'm saying? And
then everybody kind of separated. And that's when I kind
of felt it. Like, oh, the noise is low. Right. Like,
it's just me now. Like, oh, shit. Like, now I'm
working the trade. Like, you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I'm licensing, I'm selling pieces of my catalog, I'm running
it up, and as I'm doing it, it hit me.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
Rap hustling.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, like, that's my real estate as I'm doing it,
I'm like, damn, like, oh, like, it's happening, like, right?
I'm watching, that's when 310 Baby came out with Soak City,
and I'm just watching, and I've seen so many waves
of LA, like, you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 1 (08:56):
Well, I would say, like, I always said this at
the time, like, you are, like, I would say, like,
the 2020, 2021, even, like, before that everybody felt like
the like la had always had obviously there's exceptions but
la had always had like this division that would always
(09:17):
kind of bring street politics into shit for sure but
i feel like you ruchi one take j you know
like that whole era whether it was greedo before then
with shoreline yourself like everybody kind of felt like they
were kind of moving together.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
Everybody was doing songs together.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
And it felt like, oh shit, this is like a
really dope, refreshing, fun thing happening in LA and it
ain't no shit where it feels dangerous.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (09:44):
You already know, baby.
Speaker 1 (09:46):

Speaker 2 (11:03):
When you put it like that, for sure. I never
really looked at that or have been able to really
think about it like that. But, yeah, we definitely had our, like,
movement and moment and time because everybody– And that's why
I always got love for them. I got OTX tatted
on my legs. I love them dudes, but everybody was
on that short line tour.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Right.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Everybody you can think of. Even if we might not
have been on it at the same time.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Who all was on it?
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Everybody. I'm not kidding. This is 2019 or 18? This
is 2018 and 19.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
The Trap-Lanik phase.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yes. Oh, yeah. They don't even call it that anymore.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Yeah, right?
Speaker 4 (11:40):
But they did. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
The whole studio was named that. I'm like, damn.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Shout out to our boy TK.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Yeah, man. So it was a crazy movement, though, for sure.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Was that like a hard tour to be on and
like be sober?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
I don't even think nobody was thinking about being sober.
That wasn't even like.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
I could just imagine everybody being fucked up on that tour.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Man, I done seen the homies geek up, like. We
had orange juice, packets of vitamin C, boosted that motherfucker.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Like, yo, don't worry.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
We got the vitamin. We got emergency packs.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
We're going to be all right.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
We had random hotels, 20 deep in a parking lot,
big ass tour bus. It was just crazy times, man.
Good times, though. Again, needed that.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
I can imagine. I feel like you get through something
like that, and you're like, all right, I got all
that shit out of my system.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
What it don't even feel the same when you do
it you feel dumb like or old yeah like like
hey homie like it's 2026 i got drunk like three
days in a row last week and i was like
first time i drank in like three months i was
like what what the fuck what i'm not i'm 39
so i'm like man i'm.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Cooked like it ain't the same no.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
More yeah sometimes you got your moments where it's like Granted,
you know what I mean? I just lean on the shrooms.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
If I'm trying to get fucked up and have a
good time, I'll just shroom out and just be on
my own planet.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Shroom's too potent for me. I got to clear the
whole day.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Oh, you got to be at the crib.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Oh, yeah. Don't nobody text me.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Don't bother me. See, I'll do that shit at a concert.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
What? I can't do it. I can't do it.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
I was at that Kanye SoFi shit. Just whacked, bro.
In my seat like, this is the greatest shit of
all time.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
I'm crying. Fucking crying.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Yeah, that was a good trip.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
When Kanye did Ghost Town, I fucking shed a tear.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yeah, that's a good trip.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
I was like, this is amazing.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
That's a good trip, though. It's not for everybody, but
if you can pull it off, I recommend it for sure.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Okay, so I saw the artwork for the single, You
and Tyler Look Like My Mama. Now, this is very
directly influenced by one of the greatest comedies of all time,
Napoleon Dynamite.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Yeah. Whose idea was it to lean into the Napoleon
Dynamite theme? Uh.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
This coming out Friday, right?
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Yeah, this will be out.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
The song will already be out.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Oh, okay. Well, it was the director's idea. We actually
reenacted five movies for the video.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
And we reenacted two of my favorite movies, two of
Tyler's favorite movies, and one movie we both like in common.
Napoleon Dynamite just ended up being one of them. So
we dressed and did the whole shit for all five movies. Napoleon,
Men in Black. Paid in Full, Sinners, and Napoleon. Dead President.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Dead President.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
So we just reenacted all of them. So that's how
it came up. But that was the best picture to me.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Which movies did you pick specifically?
Speaker 2 (14:37):
My favorite movies was Dead President.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Great movie.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
My movie was Dead President. Dead President. I think we
both picked on Peyton Full, but my shit was Dead Presidents. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
We both had centers. I think mine was Peyton Full
and Dead Presidents. His was Napoleon and Men in Black,
(15:07):
and then we both came together.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Men in Black's got to be crazy. Y'all get a
pug for that shit?
Speaker 2 (15:12):
A what?
Speaker 4 (15:12):
A pug. Nah, nah.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
We didn't do that scene. We did the scene where he,
at the end, when they shoot the ship out the shot,
the cockroach and all that.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
I got to watch this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This feels
like a big budget video. It is.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I told the lady, I said, don't embarrass me in
front of Tyler. Cough that money up.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
You have taken a lot of time with putting out
your first major label release in terms of an album. Obviously,
you put out a lot of singles.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
What was it for you like that was so important
for you to just kind of be meticulous with the
album making process and not because because obviously you know
you had a great moment being on GNX and then
getting signed and you know you did a bunch of
festivals and a lot of people would have just dropped
you know what I'm saying yeah what why was it
important for you to take your time.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Uh I think it was just by natural design man
I think um you know I think I just was
aligned in the universe at the best interest for me.
As far as that, it just was my way of
making history. The album is stacked. You understand what I'm saying?
And when you have so many big names or big
cooks in the kitchen, you got to let them cook.
(16:23):
And no matter how long it take, it's just, you know...
And every time I talk to T or Dot and
them about it, they never like... They're like, don't rush it.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
When it's done, it's done.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
It could have... Obviously, don't overly take long. But, nigga...
you know, play the chords. So that's what it was,
and it just ended up being done now. And now,
even now, we set shit in play for certain people
around us to, even us, to feel pressure, like, no,
this has to come out.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Niggas forget after, shit, September is holiday season, shit.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Oh, nah, the music industry, like, there's a cutoff point
where it's hard to get a lot of shit done, and.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
It's usually, like, November.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Unless you bigger than life.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
Yeah, unless you're like fucking The Weeknd.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Unless you're like Kendrick Lamar.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Or Kendrick Lamar dropped GNX in November. The week of
thanks fucking give it. By the way, I was in
fucking Bangkok.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
When GNX dropped, we were leaving rolling loud and I
was just like, oh my God!
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So unless you, you feel me?
But yeah, it worked out for the better. I wouldn't
change anything. So that's really what it was. It was
just so many big cooks. And then, you know, Later on,
I would get hit up by my higher-ups, per se,
and they're just like, hey, we need to go sit
(17:42):
down and go over this album. I'm not going to
tell them no.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (17:46):
So that's what it was.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
How much of the music do you, if you're working
on some shit, obviously not everybody's got a big homie
like Kendrick and Tyler to get feedback from.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
Yeah. How often are you sending them shit just to
check out?
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Not often. I've never been that type of dude. I'll
send them certain stuff that they know about already, but
I won't send them nothing I did on my own.
If they make it to the album or something that
they just so happen to get to hear, then yeah.
But other than that, hell no. I've never really been
the type. I came up a lot doing music by myself, recording,
(18:23):
engineering myself. I never really needed nobody to tell me
this was hard. Because you might not give me even
the reaction I'm looking for. You might just spoil this
shit for me. Now I need you to get the
fuck out this studio room. You know what I'm saying?
I don't know. And I'm willing to take that risk.
Even if the shit, God forbid, I never had that happen,
but even if it did come out and it was trash,
(18:44):
I'm willing to take that last. I'm like, okay, cool.
That's straight.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Do you have any of the, I guess, LA class
you're associated with on this new album?
Speaker 2 (18:57):
What do you mean?
Speaker 4 (18:57):
I mean, you know, I think when I think of Shaq,
I think of Kalen. I think of Roach.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
I think there's a lot of guys that, you know,
I think of Mike Sherman. I think of Mike Sherman
from the Bay.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
What class? I think it's like a new class, if
you ask me. I don't think it's nothing I can
put myself in.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Who's the new class of L.A. you think that's impressed you?
Speaker 2 (19:24):
I like Grinch Walk. That's my boy. i like grinch
i'm not uh i like i ain't gonna lie uh
what's his name beezy too janky he hard too they
they they doing their thing i fuck with that shit
uh dave dollar doing her thing too yeah yeah yeah
(19:46):
it's a i'll be watching i'll be listening so yeah
that class, they going crazy for sure.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Talk to me about, like, obviously you've beat the GNX
talk into the wall in every interview you've done in the.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
Last two years.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Yeah. But just how crazy is it to be on, like,
because there's a lot of people who are on GNX, but, like,
Peekaboo was, like, the record that, like, Right now, if
you look at the radio chart, it is, like, one
of the biggest recurrence in the country. Like, it's just, like,
you just, it's like a song, if you turn the
radio on, you can't escape it. That has to just
kind of be, like, does it ever get old hearing yourself, like.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
On Real 92.3, you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
Or whatever city you're in, like, you're going to hear
the record.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Fuck no. I think I got through that early. But, nah,
it don't get old. I still, you know, it's just
damn near, like, performing, like. You cannot hit the stage
and not perform that unless they ain't pay you enough.
But other than that, you're going to perform. Like, I
have to perform Burn River again at all. Like, that's
just my baby right there. Like, you know what I'm saying? So,
(20:48):
hell no. Hell no. If anything, those are good problems
to have.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
For sure, yeah. 100%, man.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
You already know Arizona, man.
Speaker 1 (20:57):

Speaker 3 (21:12):
I know you see the billboards everywhere.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I know you can't avoid seeing my man Raffy's face everywhere,
but it's because he is the absolute best, all right?
He's helped my wife get through an accident situation, got
her paid. My mother-in-law, same situation. My best friend's parents
just used Raffi and got a big payday. So make
sure if you get into an accident, if you need help,
all right, it could be an accident.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
It could be a slip and fall.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
It could be any personal injury situation.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
They're going to take care of it, all right? All
you got to do is call Raffi.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
You know what it is, man.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Call Raffi, 623- 388-4333, Rafi Law Group, the only personal
injury law firm that we will ever rock with right
here on the Blue Lake Head podcast.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Shout out to our brothers at Hardeen, man. Utz family,
of course, they've been sponsoring the podcast for years now.
You've been seeing the mic flag for years now. Want
to give a shout out to our brothers. I just
was in Vegas. I had to pull up. All right, look,

tenders are great. They take care of you immediately. The
selection is great. So when you go to Vegas, you
(22:15):
get into that cab, you get into that Uber, immediately say,
take me to Hardeen. They'll know what they're doing, all right?
They're going to get you right, all right? The number
one premium cannabis dispensary in the world. They just got
me right. I was just in town for Rafi's birthday,
had to pull up, get right, get this nice little
101 Hardeen jersey.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
These are not available.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
All right.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Shout out to them, man.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
All right.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Salute to the family. Follow them on Instagram. Hardeen underscore
Las Vegas.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
All right.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Let's get back to the podcast.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
What about a.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Record like Game Time that comes out and feels like
it's a fucking sink wet dream?
Speaker 4 (22:47):
I'm just like, oh, this is going to be on 2K.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
This shit's going to be on fucking NCAA fucking football.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Yeah. When you made that record, did you kind of
be like, yo, this song needs a sports center joint?
Speaker 2 (23:00):
That was... That was one of those records, like, my
team had to, like, convince me. Like, Game Time was
hard to me, but I wasn't thinking about it as
a single. Right. It was hard.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
They're like, no, we got to put this out.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
And, you know, it did what it was supposed to do.
Madden 2K, like you said. So, yeah. I don't know.
That was just my natural design. That was my first, like,
real sync record.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
What was the craziest place you heard that song, or, like,
that that song made it in terms of the sync side?
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Where you were just like, oh, this is fucking crazy.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
I don't know. It'll probably just be the video games.
The Madden and the 2K. Maybe because I just grew
up on that shit. I think like other, they only
hit the game. Oh, no, I'm lying. Probably, what the
fuck is that show called? Damn, man, I forgot.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Euphoria. Oh, it was on Euphoria?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Yeah, it was like light in the back.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
I ain't gonna lie, I watched the first episode of
the new season, and I was like, just feels like
a different, like.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
Don't even feel like euphoria. It feels like it's like
a spinoff where this bitch is like running drugs. You
know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
I gotta finish it.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
You could tell like this is the end.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
No, it's a wrap.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
They was ready to kill.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
The show off. Everybody, unfortunately, like important people from the
show passed away in real life.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Right, right, right.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
You know?
Speaker 2 (24:22):
It's really good though. I can't lie. It's really good.
It's really good. I ain't gonna lie. They got like
the strippers in there. I know a few of them
in real life, so.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
It was good to support.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Some L.A.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Strippers made the cut, huh?
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Yeah, it was good to support the homegirls.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
What club?
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Sam's?
Speaker 2 (24:36):
It's only, what, three clubs? I don't know why you
ask that. We ain't Atlanta. We only got Sam's, Deja Vu's.
cheetahs sometimes they get shut down reopened so fucking much
i heard.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
That there's some spots in orange county and like the
city of industry that are solid.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
The joint in um hollywood straight to body shop that's
straight don't give me no.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
No no i feel like i have you i've only
driven by body shop i've never been i've never been
like brave enough to go into the spot that looks
like it's cool i feel like the girls would be
in there dancing to nickelback just by the.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Outside no no it's it's cool it's cool it's some
it's some some hip-hop shit so yeah i mean it's good.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
I miss uh i miss crazy girls which was right
what like right across from.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
The berries that was the spot definitely next to the
berries with the lobster yeah what an era berries was
huh yeah real good.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Are we ever gonna retire bossa nova here as like
the go-to like studio food I.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Don't think we are. I think the bitches love Bossa Nova.
That shit ain't going nowhere.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Everybody in LA, they come here. I don't care what
session I'm in. Like, y'all order Bossa Nova.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
I'm like, damn, Bossa Nova's had a fucking run that
has outlasted COVID.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Yeah, they still here. They still here. The one downtown,
we going crazy.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Someone got smoked at that one. For real?
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
See? But that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Bossa Nova's the spot that, like, the one in Hollywood, specifically.
You really just can't just pull up for real if
you got some smoke because you don't know who you're
going to run into over there.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
I only mentioned that one like twice, though. The other
one they shut down, that was the best bossing over
ever next to the Louis Bottega, Bottega Louis joint.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Yeah, no.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
That one right there where you can sit outside and eat,
they closed it down. That was the best one, 2020.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
No Rest for the Wicked, September 18th. Can you break
down the album.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Cover and the significance?
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Yeah. People is crazy. One nigga said the cover looked paused.
I said, damn. That's OD. That's my grandma. That's my grandma, bro.
But she was just... She's just the epitome of.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Someone said the cover looked paused.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
It looked paused. Look, so.
I picked that picture because she fits the name of that, right?
No Rest for the Wicked is basically... Bad shit is
always going to happen. And it's up to you how
you distribute your energy. And it was a lot of
bad shit happening for her at that time. But in
that picture, you can't tell. Her head tilted back. She
(27:08):
got the blood in her hand. But she was on
hard drugs. Her daughter, my mother, attended to that. My
mother sold hard drugs. We grew up in the crack era.
It was either right before... It was either right before...
or during when she found out she had breast cancer.
(27:30):
And that's why I chose that one again. She got
the pink shirt on. It just, that picture was yelling
at me. Like, you know what I'm saying? And, um,
through all the bad shit, she never stopped loving us though.
You understand what I'm saying? And I would know that
because shit, my mama would leave me with her to
babysit all the time. Like, you know what I'm saying?
But she was still looking out for my mama, looking
out for me and my uncle, which is probably her
(27:52):
favorite person on this earth. You get what I'm saying? So,
I think she just fit the name perfectly. It didn't
have to be all artsy and no rest for the wicked,
devils and claws and angels. It don't need to be
all that. You know what I'm saying? It was just
a representation. And now my grandma is immortal. She get
to live through the music forever. I texted my uncle
the other day and I told him she would lose
(28:16):
her mind on how famous her face is going to be.
You know what I'm saying? He's like, yeah, she probably
would cry. Her birthday was Sunday and I posted the
cover Monday. You know what I'm saying? So it holds
special value, but I'm not going to do all that
fucking explaining on the internet. You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 4 (28:30):
So, yeah. Yeah, no. That had to be like, yo, fam,
it's my grandma. Why are you pausing this shit?
Speaker 2 (28:36):
I was like, damn.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
Do you think that's me?
Speaker 2 (28:38):
I said, damn, Granny was on that stuff. She looked skinny.
You might think it was a dude with a little shirt.
I'm like, damn, they got my grandma fucked up. That
is so funny. But it's good to let people speculate
and have fun and have their think pieces on. I
don't take it personally.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Tell me for you, man, is there anything that you
were inspired by musically for this project?
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Because I just talked to somebody.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
My boy said he just was diving into Prince and
a bunch of old shit while he was recording his album.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Was there any.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Musical inspiration that happened during this process that you could
kind of pull from?
Speaker 2 (29:19):
A lot did. In the beginning, it wasn't random. It
was just where I was. But in the beginning, I
didn't have a clear intention. Just free ball and whatever,
stick sticks. But as the album went through its multiple forms, yeah,
it did. More so now. Now that I'm done with
the album, I'm deep diving. into other shit. Roy Ayers
(29:42):
and shit like that. Just real jazzy shit. It resets
the nervous system for sure. But as I'm doing that album,
I'd probably say this last December going into January.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
I was in there with some folks, and they were
just like, go listen to Get Rich or Die Trying.
Go listen to, what's the DMX album?
Speaker 4 (30:07):
It's Dark and Hell is Hot.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I'm tripping. I'm falling. I can't get up.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
Flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood slipping.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Go listen to that. Track 11. Yeah, go listen to
Snoop debut. I have some homework to do, so those
definitely played a big part in the vulnerable records on
the album, giving me confidence.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
We're too hit when I'm talking about my life.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (30:30):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (30:31):
All right.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
So new record with Tyler.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
It's out. Video. Is the video out? The video dropped
Friday too?
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Video and song dropped Friday. Yeah, man. We trying to
get video of the year with this one.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
I ain't going to lie. I love it, man.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
And yeah, I'll tell you what. We're going to play
it nationwide all over the nation on the radio right now.
But I'm going to have you introduce it, man. Introduce
the new record.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
