been watching otherwise, I decided that I wanted to make
sure that I did not miss them because I was
so eager for college football to return. So I got
hot takes on Bill Belichick and UNC getting the win
over TCU, on USC winning but nobody showing up to watch,
on Virginia looking really, really good in beating NC State

pretty solidly. Also, LSU versus the SEC on NFL players
to college. My college football top five, as well as
my picks on the national title and Heisman Trophy preseason,
which I will pretend never happened.

We've got Will Levis released.

Kelly Stewart, who I am paying a good salary, just
savages me by... Expecting that people are going to understand
sarcasm on social media, which did not work well. Dolly
Parton decal coming on helmets. We got a bunch of
different stories. Messi announces that he is done now with
playing for the Argentinian national team.

But we began with week zero reactions, potentially overreactions. Huge
win for North Carolina. It has been an offseason of tumult, turmoil.
And a great deal of trepidation, frankly, for many different
North Carolina fans as Bill Belichick proceeds to enter into

year two. You got Lombardi, I believe it is, the
GM there, off on hiatus. You've got the continued drama
associated with Bill Belichick having a girlfriend basically 50 years
younger than him. To put that into context, that would
mean the girlfriend has not even been born yet. I'm 47.
Belichick was older than me when his girlfriend was born.

Just tossing that out there. Whatever you might think about it.
We have got a real significant win, though. It was
an ugly game. It was a defensive struggle. It's actually
what I expected to see last year in week one
when TCU ran roughshod over Bill Belichick in Chapel Hill,

if I am remembering correctly. I expected for North Carolina's
defense to look decent, for the offense to be behind.
We got the game in year two that we expected
to get in year one. Now, I have long argued,
and I am long going to be arguing, although to
be fair, the NIL world has potentially changed this. Year
two is when you find out if you've got the

right guy as your football coach in college.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Year two. Why? Year one is tough.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Usually in year one, you get a sign that you
might have the right guy. A team wins a game
that they otherwise you wouldn't necessarily anticipate they would win,
and they look really good. Year two is when the flip,
the switch gets flipped. I used this example for a
long time in the SEC. By year two, you know

if you have the right guy. Every coach that has
won an SEC championship has won at least nine games
by year two. This is in the 21st century. You
win nine games by year two, you know. Guys like
Dan Mullen at Mississippi State, very good coach. James Franklin
at Vanderbilt, very good coach. Josh Heupel wins 11 in

year two at Tennessee. Everything starts to come together in
year two. Heck, even for you Arkansas fans, well, it
took a little bit longer. Bobby Petrino started to give
those signs that he was going to be the guy.
I don't know if that's going to materialize for Bill
Belichick in year two, but I know that this win

had to happen to guarantee that he would even get
to November. You go look at UNC's schedule, it is
brutally front-loaded. Five of the first six ACC games, the
Tar Heels are likely to be underdogs. Getting into November
when the schedule gets more winnable, have an opportunity to

get to bowl eligibility, This game was a must win.

They pulled off the upset over TCU. It was a
big one. Virginia, they looked really good.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Virginia went out and dominated in that game against NC State. Moreover,
Tony Elliott's Cavalier squad is now starting to fill up
the stadium. I think that was the biggest crowd first
sellout in Charlottesville in nearly 20 years.

Fans showing up.

Gives you a sign of whether they are bought in
or not. So good win for UVA. And I think
it actually ties in with fans not showing up at
Southern Cal.

And I know there's a.

Big debate out there about the poor attendance that Southern
Cal had for week zero at home. And the Notre
Dame rivalry aspect has gotten tossed in and all these
other different controversies. To me, the story is actually USC
fans don't believe in Lincoln Riley. If you believe in

your coach, you show up to watch his teams play.
People can talk about LA is a super busy city.
There's all these different things to do. Traffic is bad.

It was hot.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
The reality is they don't believe in Lincoln Riley. That
is the story of why the Coliseum was nowhere near full.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yes, it was hot. Yes, there's lots of things going on.

Yes, it was week zero and it was an opponent
a lot of people didn't care about. But if this
were Pete Carroll back in the day, they would have
filled up the Coliseum. To me, the take is not, oh,
there's so many other things to do or arguing about
fan attendance. This is like when you see parades and

people talk, oh, look how many people showed up for
this parade. The story here to me is SC fans
are not bought in right now to Lincoln Riley. Now,
maybe they're in that window, that's what Lincoln Riley said,
and things are going to start to grow, but If
you have been in Southern Cal as long as Lincoln
(06:44):
Riley has been, and people aren't showing up for a
home game that is starting the season, there's a ton
of games this weekend where there's going to be really
bad opponents.

And I get it.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I get why people want to sit back at home
and they want to watch eight games on television instead
of one in person. You're preaching to the choir. But
if USC fans really believed in Lincoln Riley... they would
have been there in much bigger numbers than they were.
SC fans don't trust Lincoln Riley. They don't trust this team.

They don't actually believe that they are going to be
as good as Lincoln Riley is trying to sell them on.
And that is, I think, a far bigger story than
just looking at the overall attendance and talking about it
so credit again to the acc for playing so many
of these games i would not have watched very.

Many of these games uh if i were.

Not uh So excited for the start of college football
that I was willing to watch all these different ACC
teams play. And I am in favor, and I know
they are expanding the season and starting earlier. I think
we should start the college football season earlier to enable
the college football season in an ideal world to end
on January 1st or shortly thereafter. Okay, my college football

I think the Fighting Irish feel spurned over being left
out of the playoff. We have seen a great deal

That touchdown Jesus is out there saying, hey, you know what?
We deserved an opportunity to play for a championship. I
know you lose two first round running backs. I know
that's going to be significant, but I think CJ Carr
in year two is going to have a lot of success.
I like the program that is being built. I like
the fact that they are recruiting at an incredibly elite level.

I've got Notre Dame overall as number two. I think
Texas beats Notre Dame in the national title game.

Third spot, Oregon.

I know we've got three straight championships that have occurred
out there from the Big Ten. Michigan, Ohio State, and Indiana.
And there are a decent number of people saying this
is Dan Lanning's year. Dante Moore returned when he could
have been probably a top five pick. And instead, he
came back to Alton, and he's going to be playing
on the road for a bunch of challenging games eventually.

But a lot of people are saying this is going
to be Oregon's year. I've got Oregon at number three overall.
I think they will be the best team in the
Big Ten. Ohio State, I've got at four. Again, I
think they lose in week two at Austin. And then
I have got Georgia at number five overall. I think
Texas and Georgia will be playing in the SEC championship game.

I think Oregon and Ohio State will be playing in
the Big Ten title game. That is my college football

This is me putting on my lawyer hat. We have
got disputes about who is eligible to play college football,
as many of you know. And LSU and Lane Kiffin
are helming up the battle out there over who is
(15:04):
eligible to play and who is not. and those important
battles that are out there are being decided in courtrooms.
Not actually rules as applied by the SEC, the Big Ten,
or the NCAA, but the courts are telling LSU, you
can sign guys out of NFL training camp. The conferences
(15:25):
are saying you can't. The judge is saying these guys
are eligible to play. Here is the challenge as I
see it. First of all, I don't blame anybody for
taking advantage of any competitive opportunity that makes it more likely.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
That your team is going to win. I don't. I
just flat out don't.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
I understand the impetus behind the moves that are being
made here. I think where LSU is potentially creating a
legal trap for themselves is this. What happens, just tossing
it out there, if this judge says these players are eligible,
LSU plays them this weekend against Clemson, and then another
(16:07):
judge comes out and says, actually, they weren't eligible, and
you end up with dueling judges out there. What is
going to happen to LSU's postseason chances? Now, It's possible
LSU is going to be an 8-4, 9-3 team and
they're not going to make the college football playoff and
none of this is going to matter. But it's also
(16:28):
possible that LSU plays players that are later deemed to
be ineligible. Typically what occurs when that happens is wins
are vacated or forfeited. So you could find yourself in
a legal morass, in a true mess going forward if
(16:48):
you are LSU, where the Bayou Bengals say, hey, we're
playing guys who are eligible. The SEC, the Big Ten,
the NCAA, other parts of college athletics say, wait, wait, wait,
these guys are not eligible. And then the court changes,
new decisions come down, and you have played players that
end up being ineligible.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Put simply.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
I'm not sure that the talent level of these players
is significant enough that I would roll the dice on
potential future eligibility in the playoff in order to play
these guys.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Now, if you're telling me.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
That LSU got a stud player who's a first round
caliber talent and they're able to add them to the
team well that could change the overall outcome of the
game in a significant way I'm not sure that any
of these players do that so to me the risk
feels far more substantial than the reward when it comes
(17:47):
to playing these guys that's my take we'll see what
Lane Kiffin ends up doing Obviously, that game against Clemson
in week one at night down in a battle of
the Death Valleys, this one going to be in Baton Rouge,
is going to create a huge potential mess going forward.

Okay, a couple of other stories. NFL.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
NFL game's not going to happen now, but we're through
the preseason. A lot of you doing your fantasy football drafts,
including me, and we will see what ends up happening
as it pertains to the NFL. I believe I am
correct in this team. Let me know if I am wrong.
I know Will Levis was released. Now, I don't believe
he was claimed on waivers either, which means he is
(18:30):
still out there as a free agent, and there aren't
a lot of teams that believe that Will Levis is
going to make their team substantially better.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Here's what I would say in general.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Those of you out there who are regular viewers or
listeners to my program, know that I was beating the
table like crazy saying, do not draft Will Levis. I
watch almost every single game out there.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
In the SEC.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
I watched Will Levis play every major game in his career,
and I said, go back and watch, the guy doesn't
process information fast enough. He has not played his best
in his biggest games, and he declined.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
From his junior to his senior year if there was
more tape.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
And I summed it all up by saying, if you
lose to Vanderbilt at home, you should not be anywhere
near a first-round draft pick if you're on a team
that has equal or superior talent to Vanderbilt, which most
often is the case. And I even went back and said,
sometimes there are great quarterbacks on bad teams. Jay Cutler
(19:36):
was a great quarterback on a bad Vanderbilt team. He
was constantly getting hit, throwing off his back foot. He
had to carry a team that was not able to
put great talent around him. Will Levis actually had some
talent around him at Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
He was inconsistent. He was inaccurate.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
He did not make rapid right decisions with the quarterback
in college, with the ball in college. I said, that's
not going to translate to the NFL. Yes, he's got
a cannon. Yes, he can make throws that will make
your jaw drop because he has such a cannon, but
Couldn't get the starting job at Penn State. That's a
red flag to me. Got beat by Vanderbilt in his
senior year at Kentucky. Red flag to me. I said,
(20:18):
please do not draft Will Levis. And I said, he's
going to be a bust. Why do the Titans do this?
The Titans drafted him early in the second round. I
think he was the first pick of the second round
a couple of years ago. I said, the Titans basically
exist to make me sad. Everyone knows I was not
a Will Levis guy. Will Levis gets released, I say, hey,
(20:40):
here's my response when the Titans drafted him. I knew
he was not going to be a good player. This
was a poor decision.

Then Kelly Stewart.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Who I am paying a not insubstantial sum of money
to be on this show right after this one, on tilt.

threw four touchdowns, the best game that he was ever
going to play, maybe in his career, he threw four
touchdowns in his opening day start. Not opening day, but

was of the Titans season. Four touchdown passes. I think
it was against the Falcons, and the Titans won that game.

It was around, I remember....

Halloween.

Because Ariel Epstein and Kelly Stewart rode in my vehicle
to the game, and I bought, if I remember correctly,
tickets for both of them. And what happens? Kelly Stewart
throws me under the bus. I'm not paying that much attention,
but I see that I have started to trend and

there are thousands of people calling me out.

They said I was lying and.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Actually believed in Will Levis when all I was doing
was sarcastically mocking my opinion that he was going to
be a bust after he had the best game ever
of his career. And I was saying, you had to
be a moron to believe he wasn't going to be good.
And I basically said, hey, he's going to be a
future first ballot Hall of Famer. As I was making

fun of myself, yet your boy is getting attacked, ripped
to shreds. I didn't even know. I'm chasing my kids around.
I got a kid in college. I had to go
shop with him. I've got a kid who's in football.
I had to get him to practice. I finally sit down.
I'm working 20 hours a day. I pull up my phone,
(22:51):
and it's just a bloodbath, all because of Kelly Stewart.
So I am taking my pen as the owner of
Sport and State. I'm clicking my pen. I am writing
a very sternly worded letter for Kelly Stewart. I hope
we clip this and I hope she has to respond

to it on her show. A very sternly worded letter
inside of her HR file.

I'm the head of HR.

I think that HR is frequently worthless, but in this case,
I've got my pen. There is a sternly worded letter
going into Kelly Stewart's file. Here's my concern in real life.
Will Levis was not good. Will Levis looked better in
the games that he played than Cam Ward has so far.

So there's a couple of concerns here that I have.
One is, it may not matter who the Titans employ.
Malik Willis... is way better once he left the Titans.
He plays well for the Packers. Dolphins give him $ 60
million guaranteed, whatever the heck it is. He's going to
be their starting quarterback this year. He didn't look like

he could do anything for the Titans. So it's possible
the Titans are such a bankrupt, broken franchise that there
is nothing that could occur that would make someone be
successful as the Titans quarterback. I can buy that. It's
also possible Cam Ward's not very good. Both of those
are not good. Either option there is bad. The Titans

are such a joke of a franchise that it does
not matter who their quarterback is or, and that's about
the surrounding periphery supporting the quarterbacks, or Cam Ward is
not very good. Cam Ward hasn't been very good in
the preseason.

I hope I'm wrong.

I'm a season ticket holder. I've been a season ticket
holder for 20 some odd years. I might be This
is a good hypothetical. I might be the most famous
Titans season ticket holder who has had tickets for over
20 years in that whole stadium. I mean, it's not

that many people, right? There's lots of famous people who
go to the games. I've actually paid for every ticket
that I've ever had, right? I've never been given free
tickets to.

A Titans game.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
I've given away a lot of tickets to Titans games.
I have paid for every game that I've ever been
to see at the Titans stadium in my entire life.
So I feel like, and I bought season tickets in
the brand new stadium that cost me God knows how
much money.

There is certainly, I have spent.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Well over $ 100, 000 in Titans season tickets and PSLs in
my life as a Titans fan. So I feel like
I'm entitled to point this out. They stink and there's
really no reason for optimism at all outside of that
brand new stadium. All right, I've got Will Kane. I'm

going to be on with Will Kane at the bottom
of the next hour. And that should be a fun hit,
talking about a variety of different topics out there. I
think Julie Tartart, a bad bitch WNBA player, that dude
who's averaging 20 points and 20 rebounds in French women's basketball.

There are reports that Julie Tartart I believe that's the name.
Julie Tartart is declaring for the WNBA draft and joining
Enos Cantor and Royce White as men who pretend to
be women who believe they qualify for the WNBA. I
think that's the topic that Will and I have in
a little bit over an hour from now.

My son is playing a football game at five o'clock central.
So I'm going to finish that show with Will and
then I'm hopping in my car and I'm driving to
go watch him play. And I have to say this,
this is an awesome experience I had never experienced in
my entire life. Friday, I got to watch my son

play in a high school football game. Now, I know
many of you out there played high school football. I
know many of you may have sons, grandsons that have
played high school football. This was a first for me.
They don't let him really dress until they're sophomores at
my son's school. And he played much of the game
(27:17):
both as a wide receiver and a defensive back. This
is a picture that we took. I think it's up
on the field after the game. You can see that
this is definitely my son. Hopefully for him as he
gets older. He's going to look more like his mom
because she is good looking and less like his dad
because I am ugly. But in all seriousness, one of

the coolest experiences I have had getting to watch my
son play on the field in a high school game.
and it's a lot of just fun. And I know
many of you out there love high school football. My
high school didn't even have a high school football team,
so I didn't grow up going to high school football games.

I went and have been to a ton of college
and pro games, but there is a special vibe and
a special feel to high school football that hopefully for
the next several years I will be able to experience.
I also want to reiterate and echo this. Kid by
the name of Cameron Frierson. Week one, my son's team
(28:26):
played against Pearl Cone High School. Pearl Cone is about
a mile away from where I went to high school.
I went to Martin Luther King High School in downtown Nashville.
I was a public school kid, K-12. This kid, Cameron Frierson,
Hunter's Lane, 16-year-old. Everybody seems out there that I have
seen to say that he was a great kid, working

multiple jobs. went to go watch the same game that
I was at, got murdered after the game. Just about
a half hour after the game ended within sight of
the stadium. I was reading about this. I saw that
there was a $ 5, 000 offer, reward for his killer being

brought to justice. I tripled the reward, quadrupled the total

He won the 2022 World Cup for Argentina, and I
believe he is the greatest player to ever play soccer.
I was fortunate to be able to go to that
great comeback game, unless you're British, when Messi and Argentina

came back, surging back to win late against England. I
know Argentina got dominated, really, by Spain. And Spain won
the World Cup up in the New York, New Jersey area.
So he was not able to get a back-to-back World Cup.
But to play in six, part of me is skeptical

and thinks he might come back a bit. He's playing
at Inter-Miami. I've seen him play at Inter-Miami. I feel
fortunate to have seen him play in the World Cup.
We live in a time that is filled with many
different GOATs, the greatest of all times, and so many
different sports across all of the different sport disciplines. But

I believe Messi is, in fact, the greatest of all time.
I respect the Ronaldo arguments. I do not believe that
Ronaldo has got the arguments on his side. Finally, I
saw this. Ketanji Brown Jackson was in a mask at

pictures of this. Katonji Brown Jackson is the final curse
of Joe Biden. She got the job because Joe Biden
said he would specifically only appoint a black woman to
the Supreme Court. Katonji Brown Jackson, memorably when questioned by
Marsha Blackburn, Senator of Tennessee, the next governor of Tennessee,
about what a woman was, said she could not answer

it because she was not a biologist.

on Virginia looking really, really good in beating NC State

pretty solidly. Also, LSU versus the SEC on NFL players
to college. My college football top five, as well as
my picks on the national title and Heisman Trophy preseason,
which I will pretend never happened.

We've got Will Levis released.

Kelly Stewart, who I am paying a good salary, just
savages me by... Expecting that people are going to understand
sarcasm on social media, which did not work well. Dolly
Parton decal coming on helmets. We got a bunch of
different stories. Messi announces that he is done now with
playing for the Argentinian national team.

But we began with week zero reactions, potentially overreactions. Huge
win for North Carolina. It has been an offseason of tumult, turmoil.
And a great deal of trepidation, frankly, for many different
North Carolina fans as Bill Belichick proceeds to enter into

year two. You got Lombardi, I believe it is, the
GM there, off on hiatus. You've got the continued drama
associated with Bill Belichick having a girlfriend basically 50 years
younger than him. To put that into context, that would
mean the girlfriend has not even been born yet. I'm 47.
Belichick was older than me when his girlfriend was born.
(02:08):
Just tossing that out there. Whatever you might think about it.
We have got a real significant win, though. It was
an ugly game. It was a defensive struggle. It's actually
what I expected to see last year in week one
when TCU ran roughshod over Bill Belichick in Chapel Hill,
(02:29):
if I am remembering correctly. I expected for North Carolina's
defense to look decent, for the offense to be behind.
We got the game in year two that we expected
to get in year one. Now, I have long argued,
and I am long going to be arguing, although to
be fair, the NIL world has potentially changed this. Year
two is when you find out if you've got the

right guy as your football coach in college.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Year two. Why? Year one is tough.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Usually in year one, you get a sign that you
might have the right guy. A team wins a game
that they otherwise you wouldn't necessarily anticipate they would win,
and they look really good. Year two is when the flip,
the switch gets flipped. I used this example for a
long time in the SEC. By year two, you know

if you have the right guy. Every coach that has
won an SEC championship has won at least nine games
by year two. This is in the 21st century. You
win nine games by year two, you know. Guys like
Dan Mullen at Mississippi State, very good coach. James Franklin
at Vanderbilt, very good coach. Josh Heupel wins 11 in
(03:44):
year two at Tennessee. Everything starts to come together in
year two. Heck, even for you Arkansas fans, well, it
took a little bit longer. Bobby Petrino started to give
those signs that he was going to be the guy.
I don't know if that's going to materialize for Bill
Belichick in year two, but I know that this win

had to happen to guarantee that he would even get
to November. You go look at UNC's schedule, it is
brutally front-loaded. Five of the first six ACC games, the
Tar Heels are likely to be underdogs. Getting into November
when the schedule gets more winnable, have an opportunity to

get to bowl eligibility, This game was a must win.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
They pulled off the upset over TCU. It was a
big one. Virginia, they looked really good.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Virginia went out and dominated in that game against NC State. Moreover,
Tony Elliott's Cavalier squad is now starting to fill up
the stadium. I think that was the biggest crowd first
sellout in Charlottesville in nearly 20 years.

Fans showing up.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Gives you a sign of whether they are bought in
or not. So good win for UVA. And I think
it actually ties in with fans not showing up at
Southern Cal.

And I know there's a.

Big debate out there about the poor attendance that Southern
Cal had for week zero at home. And the Notre
Dame rivalry aspect has gotten tossed in and all these
other different controversies. To me, the story is actually USC
fans don't believe in Lincoln Riley. If you believe in

your coach, you show up to watch his teams play.
People can talk about LA is a super busy city.
There's all these different things to do. Traffic is bad.

It was hot.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
The reality is they don't believe in Lincoln Riley. That
is the story of why the Coliseum was nowhere near full.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yes, it was hot. Yes, there's lots of things going on.

Yes, it was week zero and it was an opponent
a lot of people didn't care about. But if this
were Pete Carroll back in the day, they would have
filled up the Coliseum. To me, the take is not, oh,
there's so many other things to do or arguing about
fan attendance. This is like when you see parades and

people talk, oh, look how many people showed up for
this parade. The story here to me is SC fans
are not bought in right now to Lincoln Riley. Now,
maybe they're in that window, that's what Lincoln Riley said,
and things are going to start to grow, but If
you have been in Southern Cal as long as Lincoln

Riley has been, and people aren't showing up for a
home game that is starting the season, there's a ton
of games this weekend where there's going to be really
bad opponents.

And I get it.

I get why people want to sit back at home
and they want to watch eight games on television instead
of one in person. You're preaching to the choir. But
if USC fans really believed in Lincoln Riley... they would
have been there in much bigger numbers than they were.
SC fans don't trust Lincoln Riley. They don't trust this team.

They don't actually believe that they are going to be
as good as Lincoln Riley is trying to sell them on.
And that is, I think, a far bigger story than
just looking at the overall attendance and talking about it
so credit again to the acc for playing so many
of these games i would not have watched very.

Not uh So excited for the start of college football
that I was willing to watch all these different ACC
teams play. And I am in favor, and I know
they are expanding the season and starting earlier. I think
we should start the college football season earlier to enable
the college football season in an ideal world to end
on January 1st or shortly thereafter. Okay, my college football

I've got Notre Dame overall as number two. I think
Texas beats Notre Dame in the national title game.

I know we've got three straight championships that have occurred
out there from the Big Ten. Michigan, Ohio State, and Indiana.
And there are a decent number of people saying this
is Dan Lanning's year. Dante Moore returned when he could

came back to Alton, and he's going to be playing
on the road for a bunch of challenging games eventually.

But a lot of people are saying this is going
to be Oregon's year. I've got Oregon at number three overall.
I think they will be the best team in the
Big Ten. Ohio State, I've got at four. Again, I
think they lose in week two at Austin. And then
I have got Georgia at number five overall. I think
Texas and Georgia will be playing in the SEC championship game.

I think Oregon and Ohio State will be playing in
the Big Ten title game. That is my college football

This is me putting on my lawyer hat. We have
got disputes about who is eligible to play college football,
as many of you know. And LSU and Lane Kiffin
are helming up the battle out there over who is
(15:04):
eligible to play and who is not. and those important
battles that are out there are being decided in courtrooms.
Not actually rules as applied by the SEC, the Big Ten,
or the NCAA, but the courts are telling LSU, you
can sign guys out of NFL training camp. The conferences
(15:25):
are saying you can't. The judge is saying these guys
are eligible to play. Here is the challenge as I
see it. First of all, I don't blame anybody for
taking advantage of any competitive opportunity that makes it more likely.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
That your team is going to win. I don't. I
just flat out don't.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
I understand the impetus behind the moves that are being
made here. I think where LSU is potentially creating a
legal trap for themselves is this. What happens, just tossing
it out there, if this judge says these players are eligible,
LSU plays them this weekend against Clemson, and then another
(16:07):
judge comes out and says, actually, they weren't eligible, and
you end up with dueling judges out there. What is
going to happen to LSU's postseason chances? Now, It's possible
LSU is going to be an 8-4, 9-3 team and
they're not going to make the college football playoff and
none of this is going to matter. But it's also
(16:28):
possible that LSU plays players that are later deemed to
be ineligible. Typically what occurs when that happens is wins
are vacated or forfeited. So you could find yourself in
a legal morass, in a true mess going forward if
(16:48):
you are LSU, where the Bayou Bengals say, hey, we're
playing guys who are eligible. The SEC, the Big Ten,
the NCAA, other parts of college athletics say, wait, wait, wait,
these guys are not eligible. And then the court changes,
new decisions come down, and you have played players that
end up being ineligible.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Put simply.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
I'm not sure that the talent level of these players
is significant enough that I would roll the dice on
potential future eligibility in the playoff in order to play
these guys.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Now, if you're telling me.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
That LSU got a stud player who's a first round
caliber talent and they're able to add them to the
team well that could change the overall outcome of the
game in a significant way I'm not sure that any
of these players do that so to me the risk
feels far more substantial than the reward when it comes
(17:47):
to playing these guys that's my take we'll see what
Lane Kiffin ends up doing Obviously, that game against Clemson
in week one at night down in a battle of
the Death Valleys, this one going to be in Baton Rouge,
is going to create a huge potential mess going forward.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Okay, a couple of other stories. NFL.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
NFL game's not going to happen now, but we're through
the preseason. A lot of you doing your fantasy football drafts,
including me, and we will see what ends up happening
as it pertains to the NFL. I believe I am
correct in this team. Let me know if I am wrong.
I know Will Levis was released. Now, I don't believe
he was claimed on waivers either, which means he is
(18:30):
still out there as a free agent, and there aren't
a lot of teams that believe that Will Levis is
going to make their team substantially better.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Here's what I would say in general.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Those of you out there who are regular viewers or
listeners to my program, know that I was beating the
table like crazy saying, do not draft Will Levis. I
watch almost every single game out there.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
In the SEC.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
I watched Will Levis play every major game in his career,
and I said, go back and watch, the guy doesn't
process information fast enough. He has not played his best
in his biggest games, and he declined.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
From his junior to his senior year if there was
more tape.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
And I summed it all up by saying, if you
lose to Vanderbilt at home, you should not be anywhere
near a first-round draft pick if you're on a team
that has equal or superior talent to Vanderbilt, which most
often is the case. And I even went back and said,
sometimes there are great quarterbacks on bad teams. Jay Cutler
(19:36):
was a great quarterback on a bad Vanderbilt team. He
was constantly getting hit, throwing off his back foot. He
had to carry a team that was not able to
put great talent around him. Will Levis actually had some
talent around him at Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
He was inconsistent. He was inaccurate.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
He did not make rapid right decisions with the quarterback
in college, with the ball in college. I said, that's
not going to translate to the NFL. Yes, he's got
a cannon. Yes, he can make throws that will make
your jaw drop because he has such a cannon, but
Couldn't get the starting job at Penn State. That's a
red flag to me. Got beat by Vanderbilt in his
senior year at Kentucky. Red flag to me. I said,
(20:18):
please do not draft Will Levis. And I said, he's
going to be a bust. Why do the Titans do this?
The Titans drafted him early in the second round. I
think he was the first pick of the second round
a couple of years ago. I said, the Titans basically
exist to make me sad. Everyone knows I was not
a Will Levis guy. Will Levis gets released, I say, hey,
(20:40):
here's my response when the Titans drafted him. I knew
he was not going to be a good player. This
was a poor decision.

Then Kelly Stewart.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Who I am paying a not insubstantial sum of money
to be on this show right after this one, on tilt.

to the game, and I bought, if I remember correctly,
tickets for both of them. And what happens? Kelly Stewart

but I see that I have started to trend and

there are thousands of people calling me out.

They said I was lying and.

Actually believed in Will Levis when all I was doing
was sarcastically mocking my opinion that he was going to
be a bust after he had the best game ever
of his career. And I was saying, you had to
be a moron to believe he wasn't going to be good.
And I basically said, hey, he's going to be a
future first ballot Hall of Famer. As I was making

fun of myself, yet your boy is getting attacked, ripped
to shreds. I didn't even know. I'm chasing my kids around.
I got a kid in college. I had to go
shop with him. I've got a kid who's in football.
I had to get him to practice. I finally sit down.
I'm working 20 hours a day. I pull up my phone,
(22:51):
and it's just a bloodbath, all because of Kelly Stewart.
So I am taking my pen as the owner of
Sport and State. I'm clicking my pen. I am writing
a very sternly worded letter for Kelly Stewart. I hope
we clip this and I hope she has to respond

to it on her show. A very sternly worded letter
inside of her HR file.

I think that HR is frequently worthless, but in this case,
I've got my pen. There is a sternly worded letter
going into Kelly Stewart's file. Here's my concern in real life.
Will Levis was not good. Will Levis looked better in
the games that he played than Cam Ward has so far.

So there's a couple of concerns here that I have.
One is, it may not matter who the Titans employ.
Malik Willis... is way better once he left the Titans.
He plays well for the Packers. Dolphins give him $ 60
million guaranteed, whatever the heck it is. He's going to
be their starting quarterback this year. He didn't look like
(24:02):
he could do anything for the Titans. So it's possible
the Titans are such a bankrupt, broken franchise that there
is nothing that could occur that would make someone be
successful as the Titans quarterback. I can buy that. It's
also possible Cam Ward's not very good. Both of those
are not good. Either option there is bad. The Titans
(24:25):
are such a joke of a franchise that it does
not matter who their quarterback is or, and that's about
the surrounding periphery supporting the quarterbacks, or Cam Ward is
not very good. Cam Ward hasn't been very good in
the preseason.

I'm a season ticket holder. I've been a season ticket
holder for 20 some odd years. I might be This
is a good hypothetical. I might be the most famous
Titans season ticket holder who has had tickets for over
20 years in that whole stadium. I mean, it's not

that many people, right? There's lots of famous people who
go to the games. I've actually paid for every ticket
that I've ever had, right? I've never been given free
tickets to.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
A Titans game.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
I've given away a lot of tickets to Titans games.
I have paid for every game that I've ever been
to see at the Titans stadium in my entire life.
So I feel like, and I bought season tickets in
the brand new stadium that cost me God knows how
much money.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
There is certainly, I have spent.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Well over $ 100, 000 in Titans season tickets and PSLs in
my life as a Titans fan. So I feel like
I'm entitled to point this out. They stink and there's
really no reason for optimism at all outside of that
brand new stadium. All right, I've got Will Kane. I'm

going to be on with Will Kane at the bottom
of the next hour. And that should be a fun hit,
talking about a variety of different topics out there. I
think Julie Tartart, a bad bitch WNBA player, that dude
who's averaging 20 points and 20 rebounds in French women's basketball.

There are reports that Julie Tartart I believe that's the name.
Julie Tartart is declaring for the WNBA draft and joining
Enos Cantor and Royce White as men who pretend to
be women who believe they qualify for the WNBA. I
think that's the topic that Will and I have in
a little bit over an hour from now.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
But positive.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
My son is playing a football game at five o'clock central.
So I'm going to finish that show with Will and
then I'm hopping in my car and I'm driving to
go watch him play. And I have to say this,
this is an awesome experience I had never experienced in
my entire life. Friday, I got to watch my son
(26:56):
play in a high school football game. Now, I know
many of you out there played high school football. I
know many of you may have sons, grandsons that have
played high school football. This was a first for me.
They don't let him really dress until they're sophomores at
my son's school. And he played much of the game
(27:17):
both as a wide receiver and a defensive back. This
is a picture that we took. I think it's up
on the field after the game. You can see that
this is definitely my son. Hopefully for him as he
gets older. He's going to look more like his mom
because she is good looking and less like his dad
because I am ugly. But in all seriousness, one of
(27:41):
the coolest experiences I have had getting to watch my
son play on the field in a high school game.
and it's a lot of just fun. And I know
many of you out there love high school football. My
high school didn't even have a high school football team,
so I didn't grow up going to high school football games.
(28:02):
I went and have been to a ton of college
and pro games, but there is a special vibe and
a special feel to high school football that hopefully for
the next several years I will be able to experience.
I also want to reiterate and echo this. Kid by
the name of Cameron Frierson. Week one, my son's team
(28:26):
played against Pearl Cone High School. Pearl Cone is about
a mile away from where I went to high school.
I went to Martin Luther King High School in downtown Nashville.
I was a public school kid, K-12. This kid, Cameron Frierson,
Hunter's Lane, 16-year-old. Everybody seems out there that I have
seen to say that he was a great kid, working
(28:47):
multiple jobs. went to go watch the same game that
I was at, got murdered after the game. Just about
a half hour after the game ended within sight of
the stadium. I was reading about this. I saw that
there was a $ 5, 000 offer, reward for his killer being
(29:08):
brought to justice. I tripled the reward, quadrupled the total
amount to $ 20, 000. I hope that we are going to
be able to bring this murderer to justice. If you
know anything at all, please contact Metro Nashville Police and
let's get some measure of justice for this kid and
(29:31):
for his family. So many people out there hoping that
we can make something happen here. If my money can
help it at all. then I am more than.

One last thought here. Let's end with a little bit
of ridiculous. Oh, I got two more.

Lionel Messi, I believe, is the best soccer player of
all time. I saw Piers Morgan tweeted out that that
is not true and that he believes Cristiano Ronaldo is
actually the best player. I don't think that's true, but
Messi announced today that he is stepping down from the

Argentinian World Cup team. He played in six World Cups.
He won the 2022 World Cup for Argentina, and I
believe he is the greatest player to ever play soccer.
I was fortunate to be able to go to that
great comeback game, unless you're British, when Messi and Argentina
(30:42):
came back, surging back to win late against England. I
know Argentina got dominated, really, by Spain. And Spain won
the World Cup up in the New York, New Jersey area.
So he was not able to get a back-to-back World Cup.
But to play in six, part of me is skeptical
(31:03):
and thinks he might come back a bit. He's playing
at Inter-Miami. I've seen him play at Inter-Miami. I feel
fortunate to have seen him play in the World Cup.
We live in a time that is filled with many
different GOATs, the greatest of all times, and so many
different sports across all of the different sport disciplines. But

I believe Messi is, in fact, the greatest of all time.
I respect the Ronaldo arguments. I do not believe that
Ronaldo has got the arguments on his side. Finally, I
saw this. Ketanji Brown Jackson was in a mask at
the airport. I believe we have a video and or

pictures of this. Katonji Brown Jackson is the final curse
of Joe Biden. She got the job because Joe Biden
said he would specifically only appoint a black woman to
the Supreme Court. Katonji Brown Jackson, memorably when questioned by
Marsha Blackburn, Senator of Tennessee, the next governor of Tennessee,
about what a woman was, said she could not answer

it because she was not a biologist.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
I believe that is her answer, as I recall.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
She is still wearing a mask in 2026. She believes
that she represents the party of science, yet she cannot
tell us what a woman is. She actually believes men
who identify as women should count as women. And here
she is in a mask in an airport, not able
to cover, as you will see, carry her own bag.

I always think if you're a grown person, When I
see somebody with an inability to carry their own bag,
I just kind of roll my eyes. You're such a
diva that you can't even manage to get through the
airport on your own. Even if I have security, I
carry my bags. It's kind of embarrassing. I just think

Katonji Brown Jackson represents a loss of basic ability to
connect common sense to American jurisprudence. Unfortunately, Because Supreme Court
justices have a lifetime tenure, we've probably got another 20
or 25 or 30 years of Katonji Brown Jackson being
wrong on most significant issues in front of the court.
