Colin is joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” on The Volume.

They start with Colin attending the Bears preseason win over the Browns and offer their biggest questions surrounding the Bears in Caleb Williams second season under Ben Johnson (2:00).

They move to Ty Simpson having a great debut for the Rams in his first preseason game and Colin argues that young quarterbacks ending up with head coach like Sean McVay is like hitting the lottery, and that the Rams weren’t crazy to spend a first round pick on a quarterback while Matt Stafford is still the starter (8:00).

They pivot to the 49ers and the highlight trend of Christian McCaffrey getting injured the year after leading the league in touches… which he did last season (16:30).

They also wonder whether Giants QB Jaxson Dart will stay upright after getting smoked during their first preseason game after getting beat up last year (24L15). Colin argues that Fernando Mendoza’s intangibles and work ethic are going to further elevate the Raiders #1 overall pick (32:00).

They wonder who gave Jayden Daniels the terrible advice to send a cease and desist to LSU over his former #5 going to another player (40:00) . They also laud Sam Darnold for becoming the leader of the Seahawks (48:00) and explain why buying the Seahawks may have been the best franchise purchase years (1:00:30).

Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume. Very excited to say that bud Light is
the title sponsor and exclusive ready to drink partner of
the Colin Coward Podcast. This NFL season, all right, it's preseason,

(00:21):
so I don't even I mean, I'll be honest with you.
I watched the first three series of these games. Then
I look for certain draft picks. So a John Middlecoff,
former NFL scout three and out joining us. So I
went to the Bears game stayed for three quarters. You
know I've said before, I think Andrew Berry is a
good GM. They have talent, CONCEPTSI owns, a real playmaker.

(00:42):
He's going to be a big hit for them. Boston
they like him as well, strong guy and a Washington
wide receiver. I think they've got some really interesting players.
I don't know what to make of their offense. Shad
Or didn't look great, Deshaun Watson couldn't get into the
end zone, Dylan Gabriel whatever. I think the biggest snooze
for the Bears. I think one of this thing thirty
four to ten didn't do much in the first half.

(01:05):
Ozzie Trapilo, their left tackle who most thought could miss
the season. They announced today he'll be ready for Week one.
This goes back to something John I've talked about. I
think the medical advances. I think players are healthier, eating better, flexibility,
the medical staffs, the training. Almost everybody as a rule

(01:27):
comes back thirty percent sooner than you'd think. This kid
came back crazy about fifty percent sooner. So to me,
my entire question with the Bears is they needed an
edge rusher. They don't get a great pass rush. They
didn't against Cleveland and left tackle, so left tackle appears
to be solved.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Now they what's the old adage that success isn't always linear,
which can be true in a lot of industries, but
at football, I don't agree. To me, the biggest win
for them, Remember last year at this time was like
Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams kind of weird fit, right, this
ad lib quarterback in this guy. Now, I flipped on

(02:08):
the game because it was on NFL network. Kickoff. I
realized why you went. It was much easier in the
morning these morning kickoffs. You could get home. All those
guys are just in the sideline. Caleb in just sweats
with Lovelin and everyone else just yeah, they should be
in sweats. I wouldn't utilize him at all during and
by all accounts, he's taken huge strides this offseason. So

(02:31):
really you're just watching their backups and more like Tyson
Badget comes into the game. I thought he looked pretty
good and that's a pretty good job by Ben Johnson
developing him. But like you said, we talked about it
last week. You know, originally Kobe Bryant was signed. He's
a big time playmaker for Seattle on you know, one
of the best defenses of the last I don't know,
ten years, especially down the stretch for them. He has

(02:53):
a very serious injury, it turns out, because at first
it wasn't going to be that bad that he got
surgery and now he's probably out for the season. They
were going to be a defensive backfield oriented defense because
they're pass rushers. Well that's a pretty big blow because
now you're depending more on the Oregon rookie, which it
can be difficult for rookie dbs, and I think that's
gonna be their big question mark because offensively, I know

(03:13):
Ben wants to be the greatest offense of all time.
I thought when he had that comment, I don't blame
him for having those aspirations. It's probably not gonna happen
in twenty twenty six. You wouldn't maybe a couple more
years of some of their guys to come into their own,
including the quarterback. But they are gonna be like they
I think in a perfect world for them, like Denver,

(03:33):
we don't want to be in all these crazy games
where we keep your fingers crossed in the fourth quarter, right, right,
can we have we're better than you? We're up fifteen
points going in the fourth quarter instead of a tie game,
or we're down and Caleb has to make these miraculous plays.
But you know, I think they have one of the
best coaches clearly in the league.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
I will say they got the safety from Oregon and
Malite Mohammad the corner from Texas. So they actually and
they have Jalen healthy, right if they can stand? Yeah, yeah,
so I think that. Actually I like their back end.
The question will be for them, they're rush. They have
Sweat a six rounder out of Georgia Tech. They like,
they just don't have much of an edge rush. I

(04:14):
went to a practice, I went to the game. They
just don't They don't generate a lot of edge rush.
That's just who they are. I could absolutely see depending
on how the Raiders go, I could see him going
after a Max Crosby absolutely without I.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Think by far the biggest win is coming into this year.
Like when Ben Johnson was hired, if you would have
said going into a second training camp, you could say
with a straight face. I know some people thought it
could be the MVP last year. That was kind of
crazy in my opinion, I was too native, but to go, yeah,
Caleb could become a top five six quarterback this year

(04:46):
and be a guy that if his completing percentage goes
up and they win twelve plus games like legitimately MVP
candidate and could win it like everyone. Yeah, the roster's
not perfect that they've had some picks that they would
probably like back or transactions they would like to have back.
But I think you have to feel pretty good about
And the other thing is, for the first time, a

(05:07):
lot of questions in Green Bay roster wise. You know
their Minnesota is keeping their fingers crossed on a Kyler
Murray resurrection, right, and the Lions are definitely, to me
roster wise, the best team in that division. But you know, yeah,
third coordinator now in three years already had a couple

(05:29):
offensive line injuries, some question marks there, and they're one
of the rare really good teams where the offensive line
truly matters because their quarterback can't move. So it's like, yeah,
the offensive line is a little hit or missed with
Josh Allen, Well, did you see that highlight play he
had yesterday? Like you know, or Lamar Jackson or Herbert Well,
their guy can't move. How many top fifteen quarterbacks can't move?

(05:51):
Dak's probably the only other closest, and he came into
the league as a fantastic athlete. He's just gotten older,
had some lower body injuries. Golf, by of all the
good players, is the only guy that can't move. So
he is very, very dependent on great play calling and
if they if they're gonna push the ball down the field,
holding up at the line of scrimmage against the bass rush.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Yeah, I mean there was Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan Brady,
They're all gone, So Goff is really the last pure Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
They don't even exist in college anymore. I mean, I
don't think we're gonna see it. They don't exist up
from everything that I've read and just peek at they
don't exist in high school. Like I We're just not
gonna see that player, I don't think ever again.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
So one of the things, kind of one of my
rules is if I and this is not to say
that smart people don't make mistakes, but if if somebody's
really smart and then they work with somebody that's really smart,
I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. So
when the Rams drafted Tys Simpson, my take was they
had two first round picks. They got a top three
corner with one of them, Trent McDuffie, So they took

(06:58):
a flyer on a quarterback. Now, John I, I'm a
believer there are two positions in football that you have
to address at least a year before you need him
potentially two quarterback and left tackle. There are not Those
are just positions that an injury can decimate. I mean,
look at look at the Niners record. When Trent Williams
doesn't play, like with Shanahan and Purtty, it's a different,

(07:21):
different football team. So when the Rams drafted ty Simpson
and everybody was outraged, my take was they had two
picks in the first their biggest weakness was corner Like
it's Okay, you know Stafford gets dinged up. So I
watched hy Simpson every snap twenty one of twenty five
through the ball very well, especially rolling right. I mean

(07:43):
it was all backups but poised. This is it's like
having good parents when you come into the NFL and
you get Andy Reid or Shanahan or McVeigh or Kevin O'Connell.
I mean, it's like hitting the lottery with your parents.
You know you've got a hedge fun guys, your dad
growing up. It's a little bit of an advantage. And

(08:03):
I just watched Ky Simpson and it was the classic.
And I'm not nobody individually, but I said when the
Rams did this, I said, guys, it's quarterback. You have
to draw. You can't get desperate and have to give
up six picks to get him. Like the Rams will
never be drafting this high. You got Trent McDuffie, so
I'm sure you saw Ty Simpson. My take was he

(08:26):
looked really poised. And I know I'm not making that
much of it, but I was impressed.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Yeah, I watched the game live. I had a high
ranking executive tell me last week said that if you
flipped it and they traded pick thirteen for Trent McDuffie.
And this was before he played the game against the Chiefs,
and it had used picked twenty nine or twenty eight
whatever pick that exactly was to get Trent, and and
ty Simpson went in that spot right. They had traded

(08:55):
the high pick the like the Bengals did. He said
a lot. It wouldn't have been as but when you
take a guy thirteen, that's really close to being a
single digit pick. And people, and I'm guilty of this,
you look for traits right yet we've seen Anthony Richardson.
I don't know if you followed this cam Ward situation.

(09:15):
It has not gone well right now in Tennessee. You know,
Trey Lance, just because you have traits does not mean
you're gonna be a good quarterback. But you know where
you land that quarterback also really matters. I saw some
highlights of Zach Wilson with Kellen Moore. Looks pretty good,
got him going. So who your coaches has a lot
of influence on you. Some guys it turns out maybe

(09:36):
JJ McCarthy turns out he can never play the plays
they ran for him. One thing you gotta be careful
of in the preseason is Defensive coaches, they're less likely
to truly game plan for these events. They will just
maybe run a couple of blitzes right throughout early in
the game when the good players for the other team
first or second strings, but they're not putting together a

(09:57):
defensive game plan. Offensive coaches sneaky will script out the
first fifteen to twenty plays for their quarter because they
want him to look good. Like they got big egos.
They want to put the guy in a good position.
And I do think there are a lot of parallels
with Tie's skill set with like a guy like brock
perty right, not the biggest, not the strongest arm, clearly

(10:19):
pretty accurate. I mean those mcveay shanahan play action get
him on the move. It was like, okay, he could
do that with his in his sleep. We talked about
these other quote unquote bus quarterbacks. They can't make that pass.
It's not because they can't hit up some bomb down
the You got to hit the layups. And in that offense,
that play is a layup throw because the guy coming

(10:40):
across ten fifteen yards away from you down the field
is wide open. You have to hit that. Your completion
percentage on that pass on the rollout. McVeigh Shanahan like
that is a bread and butter play for them, and
he hit it with ease, right, even though I'm sure
they practiced a bunch, They probably I would say, planned

(11:02):
on running those plays in practice for him, so he
was comfortable doing it. My bigger issue is, like court,
you know, we talk about quarterback inflation or inflation all
over America.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Is real.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
If my AC units go down, it's gonna cost me
twenty grand five years ago it might have been twelve. Right,
What am I gonna do not pay? Right? I think
at running back, at some of the other positions. You
can pick your spot in a draft. I do get
if you have conviction on a player and believe in him.
My main issue is like historically, guys with less physical
traits Dak Kirk, Cousins, Purdy, you know, even Brady coming

(11:37):
out of college. Everyone has their own story. Just went
later in the draft. That no longer happens, right, right,
because if you go in the third round, now people
go that guy's a backup. If you're taking a guy
in the top forty, you view him as a first
round Even when the Titans took Will Levis high in
the second round. They use that pick thinking this guy
could be our starting quarterback. So when you take a
guy at thirteen his risk profile, we all have to

(12:00):
agree it is pretty high. One year starter by the
end of the year got banged up. But like, clearly
you got to give high level, high level organizations deserve
the benefit of the doubt. Apple and Amazon make a decision.
You give them a longer runway than some crappy companies, right,
That's right.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
That's how I feel about McVeigh and snead like and
their scouting department, which hasn't missed on a defensive player
in years. I'm like, I'm just if if if mcvay's like,
that works for me because because I will say Ty
Simpson moves, well, he's not a classic pocket guy. He moves.
That's why.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
He can just get out and move and keep plays
alive and.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
That that rollout play.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
You go back to Mike Shanahan who took over with
the older railway. Who did he pivot off of like
Jake Plumber. You know that he wanted a guy with mobile.
It goes back to Bill Walsh. They don't need Lamar
Jackson athlete, but they like an athlete because I can
get him on the move to throw. Well, Stafford at
this point in time, he's so elite. Is a throw

(13:00):
or it doesn't even matter, but because it can't move
as much anymore. But like, if you gave Matt Stafford
and his prime McVeigh, they would run that play over
and over it. It would be not you wouldn't be
able to stop it.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
By the way, something that just shows how much talent
there is in the NBA. After about the fourteenth pick,
you know, you really run out of starters. That's why
you can name Draymond Green or Tony Parker or Jokisch
as great second round players. There just aren't many. I'm
watching an undrafted guy running back from Houston for the
Rams named Dean Connors, and I'm like, who they? I

(13:36):
didn't watch a lot of Houston football. I was just like,
that guy's gonna make a team. He was undrafted.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Well is it this? And I say this all these
different angles of the NFL, I think why it resonates
with so many people. But you turn on the Bears game,
you got Tyson Badget where I bet if you polled
ninety nine percent of the people in America. Whatever the
hell division seventh school he went to. No one could
point it out on a map. Then you watch him
and you go, that guy's legit NFL. He's gonna play
in the league for a long time. At think how

(14:03):
many people in life in all these different Most people
didn't go to Harvard or UCLA, And there are a
lot of successful people all over the place that come
different paths. Isn't that kind of the NFL? Like you
don't have to go to Ohio State or USC or
Texas to be to become a millionaire in America.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
You don't.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
You could go to Chico State just fine. You know,
I went to Call Paula, you went to what Like
they are all sorts of pass and that is the NFL. Like, yeah,
Caleb went to USC Oklahoma, five star. He's playing with
some guys that clearly or not, you know, all over
his team. You know, Jalen Johnson once started at some
small high school in Fresno and worked his way up

(14:40):
and became I forget exactly where we went to college,
but like, not everyone is just going to LSU the
number one.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
Overall pick, that's right. Yeah, Okay, So I want to
talk about the Niners. I know you liked that second
round wide receiver.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
See that Colin.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
Pretty good. They overdraft receiver.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Butt Shrams loved him too.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Stribbling. Yeah, he had seven catches. He was impressive. But
this is interesting. So Christian McCaffrey missed a week of practice.
So in twenty nineteen he led the league in touches.
In twenty twenty, he played only three games. In twenty
twenty three, he led the league in touches. In twenty
twenty four, he played only four games. Last year, he
led the league in touches. I mean that. My take

(15:24):
is it's like a pitcher the ghost, three hundred innings.
Are you concerned if you're a Niner fan about listen this?
I mean was he did a majority of the carries
last year, and it just he's a He was getting
banged up when he was a young running back. There's
a trend here with McCaffrey, and it's not a great
one if you're San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Well, they got no chance.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
He missed.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
I guess practice again today. They're flying down to LA
this week to do a joint practice with the Chargers,
and I think they play him on Thursday. He had
seventeen touchdowns. Last year, he had over two thousand yards,
did not miss a game, and then in the upset
victor against the Eagles, he had two touchdowns. One was
the game winner, basically the double pass to him down

(16:05):
the sideline. They just he is the lynchpin for their team,
for their offense specifically, and they're it's not like their
backup running back is you know, some few up and
coming star. So this is the one thing you respect
about him the most is how seriously I mean, this
guy trains like three sixty five twenty four to seven.
My take is, and listen that he knows his body

(16:26):
better than me. But I grew up in an era
where guys took some time off and it was easy
on your body, and hear some of these guys in
their fifties and sixties were like, my body needed that.
And I think some of these guys in general pushed
themselves so hard that it's like, bro, a month, two
months off, you're not gonna look like me. In a month,

(16:48):
you're you'll be okay. And I you know, he's a
guy that notoriously trains as hard as anyone in the NFL,
like Lebron yeah, one of the biggest genetic freaks we've
ever seen. Most guys knee just some time off and
I just you fall him on social media. He just
trains every single day and by all account, yea come
back into great shape, look good the first week in practice,

(17:09):
and now no one's seen him in two weeks. And
it's not one of those well he just rolled his
ankle freak deal. This is one of those ten to night.
He's had lower body injuries, he's had knee issues. He's
a tightly wound guy. I put Bosa in that category
as well. Now Bosa's legitimately toward his ACL I think
three times in his life, so that's just over time
tendonitis or whatever comes up. This one is just because

(17:31):
you just you need this guy, Like if they're gonna
they're a playoff team if you tell me Christian mccafre's
fully healthy and they play seventeen games because he's just
too productive of a player. But at this happened two
years ago and I thought, well, that's no big deal,
he's just fine, and then all of a sudden, week
one came he couldn't play and then eventually plays four
games that season. So This is of all the Niners injuries,

(17:53):
this by far is their biggest red flag, you know,
because the Bosa thing, you know, is last year of
guaranteed money on his contract. At the Bosa's they like
their money, you know, they're always kind of angling. They
come from a family. McCaffrey is. If mccaffreck can practice,
he can practice. He's the only guy now. They don't
always make him practice, but he's always there. He's always working.

(18:14):
Like Trey Williams and Bosa like they've been on their
own plan for a while. McCaffrey is not like if
you would let him, he would practice, honestly, twelve months
a year. He'd have the team together. And some people's bodies,
isn't it crazy, you know, sport. Some guys bodies just
they play fifteen years, no problem. In other guy's bodies

(18:35):
when they're young, they just can't hang. It's sometimes it's
just it's obviously out of your control.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Yeah. I mean John Lynch of the Niners, the GM
told me he never had a concussion. Dude, he led
with his head for fifteen years. I mean I covered
him in Tampa as a player and he was back
when Chuck Cecil and John Lynch. They were like torpedoes
leading with their helmet when it was legal. He's like,
I don't think I ever had a concussion. I mean,
it's just and then you know Troy Eigman had like

(19:02):
six or seven, you know, young lot of it. Yeah,
so it's just some it's the luck of the draw.
Hunger strikes and you're exhausted. What to do well with Factor,

(20:06):
twenty six. All Right, Giants played the Vikings low scoring game.
Jackson Dark got smoked bad. I will say I said
Malachi Melchai Fields, the six to fourd receiver from Notre Dame.
I said it during the draft. I thought he was

(20:27):
the best third round pick. I think he's going to
be an incredible red zone target. He had a again
back of the end zone. He's just you know, corners
are five to ten. He's six four and long. I
mean he looks like he's got like an NBA length.
He is a long player, a little like George Pickens,
where it's just it's catching radius is a problem for
a smaller corner. So I thought the Giants looked a

(20:48):
little disjointed. It's a new system. They weren't playing one
of their They played the rookie offensive linemen. He looked
pretty good out of Miami. I thought he looked pretty
good Mali Noah Malchi Fields look really good. Rvel Reese
is incredibly active. But Jackson Dart, you know, Brian Flores
loves to blitz, just got just got knocked. It looked

(21:11):
like he got knocked out for like two seconds. And
Dart after the game said, you know, listen, he goes,
I don't know what it is. I just end up
in that blue tent. And as I watched that sack,
my takeaway was, I don't think I ever saw Brady
in his last ten years get hit like that. I
wonder how much of that is Jackson Dart's inability pre
snap to negotiate out of that and audible out of that,

(21:34):
because that's the kind of hit that I mean, honestly,
you know, Manning mahomes Brady, these guys that master the pocket,
they don't get hit like that a lot. So I
think some of that felt like, Bro, you got to
see that, You got to see it before it happened.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Well, if I was defending him, I'd be like the
running back Whift last year. He was running into guys.
The running even Hardball said after the game on that place,
like we got to block it. It's also a pretty
tough block the running backs way to the riot. He's
got to step back in the dude just he had
no barely even touched him. Now you can argue of like,
who you're playing is a guy that will bring the

(22:10):
house on every single play. You have to be completely
aware of that. And if you even get the one
percent chance this guy could come in my running backs
one on one, I gotta not only be aware, I
probably gotta get rid of this ball fast. And that
that's part of football. Of this goes back to the
golf and that previous era. Philip Rivers knew he couldn't

(22:32):
run away for any Eli Manning, Peyton, Manning, Brady, they breeze.
Their whole game was predicated on worst case scenario. The
ball has to be out of my hand. These guys,
these athletic quarterbacks, go, well, shit, I'll just figure it
out if worst case scenario, guys, I'll just do a
three sixty, roll around and run around. And that's where
you can kind of get the helter skelter, which is

(22:53):
the way he played last year. I do understand what
he's saying, because he's going to I just got hit,
I get up, and they just make me go to
the tent. Well, part of that is one they're being
extra safe we can nippick that all we want, but
like also your history of you've got a concussion last year,
you've taken a bunch of hits. Listen. I think sometimes

(23:14):
those type players the helter skelter, sometimes they work and
they work great. You know, Russell Wilson's the best version
I've ever seen of just for that four or five
years period. People can nitpick them all they want. I
saw that guy live in his prime. That's as good
as like.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
You never got a clean shot.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
That was incredible. I mean, ask anyone that played him
if he was as good as advertised I promised you
say that. They would say he was because he would
usually beat him. But most guys aren't that good doing that.
Watson had like a two year stretch where he kind
of played like that. And I watch him now, you
just saw him live. He looks like he's moving in
slow motion. Deshaun Watson's physical traits have disappeared. He can't move.

(23:53):
Jackson still can which on the on the touchdown pass
him rolling around. Sometimes that's a in a curse. If
I know I have that in my back pocket, like
I have, I just do I need to see this
guy who cares and that's the balance of trying to run.
I would say, like a structured offense can be difficult.

(24:14):
By the time Mahomes and Andy, Andy had been coaching
the league for twenty years and had been around McNab
and far if he was just comfortable doing that. Look
at Allen and Sean. They kind of butted heads, right Lamar.
They immediately just morphed the offense like what Lamar has
done the last several years did not look like twenty

(24:36):
nineteen when they just ran like a college running offense.
So it's like they're going to try to make Dart
much more of like a normal passing quarterback and just
following Giants people online. I do think it's been pretty
bumpy in practice, so it's it's yes, it'll be fascinating
to see how this kind of goes. Like I It's

(24:58):
why I'm hesitant for for several reasons. I know, you
like the Giants to double their win total. I could
see them being dramatically better, but like it wouldn't shock
me at off they went went seven and ten, still
got some question marks on defense, but offensively could just
be all over the map.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Well, Isaiah, likely, I think it's going to be really productive.
Neighbors will come back. I think likely is one of
those under the radar picks that I mean, he was
a really good player for the Ravens. They had to
shed some money. I think he's really good. I think
fields at a Notre Dame at six to four is
a really interesting target. I think if Neighbors comes back,

(25:35):
then I really really like their receiving car. I think
it's really good. Singletary and scataboo. That's a nice one
two punch. A lot of it to me comes down.
They drafted interior o line, which I got heat from
Giant fans. I'm like, listen, your your left tackle gets hurt,
your right tackle's okay. The kid out of Miami may
be better inside than out, but you need a third

(25:57):
tackle somewhere in that building that you trust. Because Andrew
Thomas is terrific, but he gives you about thirteen games.
So I think if healthy, I really like the Giants offense.
But it does come down to Jackson Dart and I'm
not blaming him for getting smoked. I'm not saying that,
but I but you just don't see a lot of
the veteran quarterbacks. I don't remember Matt Ryan that many

(26:18):
times getting smoked. Why because Matt is so good pre
snap and you know, I just when I watched that,
I thought, oh Jesus, that is you know, you know
it's obviously the running back with but it was pretty well, I.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Would say too Colin at this point. Now you have
last year where he took just hllacious hits and then
this hit, like he's either going to learn fast or
he's never going to figure it out. Like it's either
we got to pivot quick and be completely aware of
our surroundings. They're already pushing him to slide, which I'm
a believer. It's kind of an innate like you kind

(26:52):
of know that when you're ten, twelve, thirteen years old,
right right. Usually sliders they've been sliders their whole life,
and guys that just leap forward like Michael Vick Lamar's.
So it's I would bet against it working at the
level I think people think it's going to work just
because history would say it doesn't like that you can't
really play helter skelter, but Harbaugh just has I would

(27:16):
say pretty good history with the mobile quarterback. Though you know,
Lamar came in the league Heisman Trophy winner, So I
mean it's a little different animal.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
So Fernando Mendoza. Let's go back to Thursday night. Raiders
lost to Arizona ten of sixteen at touchdown ninety seven yards.
You know, there's two things, John that just work in
almost every field. It could be the medical profession, the
sales profession, finance teaching, athletics, maturity at a young age,

(27:49):
and almost obsessive level passion. That's the one thing about Mendoza,
Like he after the game, He's like, I got nothing
to do. I'm going home and watching every snap. The
kid is completely obsessed and he is more mature than
the average, you know, twenty three year old kid. My
take was he made one or two throws, one really

(28:10):
good throw over the linebackers in front of the deep coverage.
I don't know. I think I think he's he's a
legitimate two twenty to twenty eight. I think he's got
a really nice downfield arm. He's he's got a little
Andrew lock. He's not that athletic, but he's not a
dinker and dunker. I mean he I think he led
college football in like yards per attempt. Like he throws

(28:31):
the ball down the field. That's why I keep saying,
as much as I like Kurt Signetti, that team could
have lost four games last year. They should have lost
to Oregon, at Penn State and Miami, and maybe Iowa
had him beat. So I think Mendoz is a better prospect.
I tend to think that if you're a B plus prospect,
this is Dak Prescott. If you're a B plus prospect

(28:53):
with an obsessive work ethic, high maturity at a young age,
and leadership qualities that ingratiate you to teammates, B plus
becomes a minus. You're not going to jump grad. Nobody's
going to be a C plus guy and ended up
being a B plus. I've been told that for years
by scouts you can jump half a grade off maturity
and work ethic. I mean, Tom Brady was drafted by

(29:14):
a major League baseball team. He is six' five and
did have by about year six a, really really good.
Arm he's one of the smartest guys that ever played the.
Position so, people, oh go look at that combine For. Brady,
yeah he's a little he's, stiff and he's not a,
runner but he moved as well in the pocket as
Anybody i've ever. Seen he also is one of the
great bad weather quarterbacks because of his hip. Turn BUT

(29:36):
i look At mendoz AND i just think all the intangible.
STUFF i, Mean dak was never a beautiful thrower to the,
football But dak was so good at the. Intangibles his
tangibles were. Okay so to, ME i Think mendoz is
a better throwing version Of, dak where you're just getting, passion, maturity.
LEADERSHIP i don't. KNOW i, mean there's JUST i don't.

(30:00):
Know most of my guys are mixed on. Him think
he's more of a late first round. Pick what did
you think of?

Speaker 2 (30:05):
It, yeah to, me the late first round pick Like
Ty simpson is six' to one ok arm one. Year
Start fernando mendoz has been starting for. Several years just
Won The. National Championship saw, signetti say you talk about
throwing the. Ball downfield he did this thirty minute sit
Down With rhys davis and it was kind of, nerdy
football and he said he called more post routes this

(30:26):
Year For fernando mendoza because he could execute. The route
he's like most teams have fast receivers that can run.
Post routes you don't feel comfortable making the call because
you can't block it and you can't hit it down.
The field, HE said i threw more post routes and
called him this year than we had the last. Ten
YEARS so i actually think the comp not as, a
Player Because drew Brees And fernando mendoza are. Completely different

(30:47):
but when you talk about, elite leadership elite, work ethic,
elite desire ingratiates himself to everyone that wants to run through.
A wall that's Kind Of. Fernando mendoza most of the
best quarterbacks kind. Of nerds they're just nerdy, for Football
like Peyton Dating. Tom brady, these guys they're the equivalent
of like some Engineer at apple that just spends all

(31:08):
their time on the computer trying to do whatever they're
supposed to do for. The company they. Just do they
give me the.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
Cool guys let me give you the. Cool Guys, Jay Cutler,
Cam Newton, Drew Lock, johnny manziel like they were the,
cool guys like people, were like, you know they were.
Cool guys, you know the guys. That Aren't andrew luck's
first preseason gave me was ten AND sixteen i thought it.
Was interesting mendoza's first preseason gave me was ten. Of

(31:33):
SIXTEEN but i do THINK they're i remember saying, YEARS
ago i Thought That sam darnold the Prototype Was. ANDREW
luck i said nobody can be as Smart, as LUCK
and i do THINK but i thought they, were athletic,
not reckless but. Highly aggressive mendoza. Is aggressive he's not
as Athletic As. Andrew luck but there is something to
be said for when. They talk It's like gollie, g

(31:55):
like it sounds like. The seventies it's leave It, to
Beaver and, I'M like i, DON'T know i find. IT
ingratiating i.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
Like it even if you look At the luck era
from like when he came INTO, the nfl the next
three or four years Of like Shaw and. Stanford guys
most of those guys had long careers because. They're intangibles
Like Even, solomon thomas who went, Third overall, you're, like
bust he's IN. The nfl he's gonna have a TWELVE year. Nfl,
career yeah he didn't live up to, the hype but you,

(32:19):
know why because they're they're intelligent. Their workout you can't
play physical football if you don't like. Playing football, To
Me fernanda mendoza is THE play i will never forget
about his. College career won't be the dive in for
the touchdown Against Was, it miami won't be some of
the great toes he had to. Seal games it'll be
the first play Of The ohio state game when he
got hit which looked like you would get hit by

(32:41):
an ALL pro nfl, defensive line and, you're like he
just shattered, his ribs, his spleens into his into his, you.
Know vertebrae. He's done his. Season's over two, plays later
he shook it off and came. Running back, i'm like
this guy is tough as nails and it so, it's,
like yeah he's, a nerdy tough guy who happens to
Be Like andrew lack clearly pretty intelligent when it comes.

(33:05):
To football not just like there's. A difference you can
be a. Smart guy there are a lot of. Smart
guys ONE thing i learned IN the nfl, is like
just because you have a four POINT oh gpa does
not make you a great football player in terms of.
Learning it because some, guys overthink some. Guys overanalyze but
when you can mesh. That up when the guy is
really smart and he learns football, very easily that is a.

(33:27):
Dominant Trait Like peyton Manning And. Tom brady they are
really intelligent guys who learn football at really, really high.
Seamless levels there are guys that go to these schools
that are four point oh GPAs and it's just they
just overcomplicate, Things right and, To Me fernando mendoza would
be in that category, of like is he? Too smart

(33:47):
and then you just watch him play the throw he
made that you're talking about the, touchdown pass getting rid,
of it being able to get rid of the ball,
really quickly accurately and just on a dot in the
right spot so if it, is complete it hits, the
ground not missing high in the red zone which can lead.
To INTERCEPTIONS SO I I, fernando mendoza is he ever
gonna be the best quarterback IN? THE nfl i wouldn't

(34:07):
bet my life savings? On IT would i bet a
large percentage of my life savings and he's gonna turn
into a top ten twelve? ISH quarterback I Would i
just like you just bet on guys like that and
they're any they're kind of lucky and get they deserve credit.
For this they're not gonna throw them out there because
their team's probably not gonna be. That good they don't
have the, great receivers their offensive line still got some.

(34:28):
Question marks, he'll play, you know Whether that's october first
or whether that's in the Middle. Of november but like,
they were this is what a good. Organization did, they're
like we don't want to throw this guy out if
our team's not, good enough we have to find a. Good,
Backup well sean McVay Really wanted kirkcuszins to be, his
backup Really wanted remember at the, owner's meetings he was
like making. A pitch other teams did, as well all

(34:50):
these other we saw last Year When daniel jones and
Like the minnesota wanted The back you've got to be
aggressive in, that market and. They were they finagled the
contract that kind of cooked the books a little On
the falcons and they got her cousins to basically throw To, the,
wolves Right because i'm a, ROOT like i want them to,
be competitive but more than likely in, their division it's

(35:10):
they're probably more likely to win six games than they.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Are Ten So jaden daniels had the best rookie quarterback
season in the history of. THE sport i mean it
was literally ARGUMENTS. For mvp the second year he, gets
hurt which has always been kind of the concern is
he is a Little teddy, bridgewater frame a. Little spindily
so we're going into year three in, my TAKE and i,

(35:34):
SAID this i just they're the mystery team. To ME and,
I Thought, Jaden, daniels listen sometimes guys come into the
league and they got, a TEAM and I Mean lamar
jackson's mom was. His agent sometimes they have, a friend,
a cousin a buddy, in COLLEGE and i. Understand it
it's comfort Somebody On jaden. Daniel's team this Is what
i'm guessing told, him, that man you got to GO.

(35:57):
After lsu you you can't let them use your likeness
or your number that you WORE. At Lsu And jaden
daniels that, story LEAKED and i MEAN he lsu is done,
with him that the scrutiny. Was APPROPRIATE and i was
just sitting, There, thinking Jaden, it's august It's. Mid august

(36:19):
who gives? A shit, i mean this is just zero.
Self awareness do you Think it's jaden or do you
think it's somebody that got in his Ear in, jaden's
team because all, THESE quarterbacks i mean they got managers
and agents, and ASSISTANTS and i. GET it i mean
that's it probably should and a lot of them use,
you know a BUDDY at lsu or, you know a

(36:39):
cousin that you trust and you trust with your money
and your judgment that got. Your Back but jaden had
shown such great like maturity and for this to become
a story and kind of a volcanic reaction, myself included
which is bro Get At. Joe burrell they're using. His likeness.
Nobody cares that's a, college choice, you know if college

(37:03):
wants to retire, your jersey but that Very few tebow's
jersey isn't Retired, at Florida for. God's SAKE so i
just was kind of my take was this Couldn't be
jaden was just somebody get In, HIS.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Yeah i think it's his mom and texting around and
listening to. Some stuff it's everyone thinks it's his mom
because his mom is. His AGENT and i think there's
a difference. Of, People one i'm all four parents being
involved in their. CHILDREN'S life i Actually got lebron's back
On the, Bronni, situation like what's the point in being
great and getting so much power and not wielding it

(37:37):
for your? Own, child LIKE if i, WAS him i
would have done the, same thing and so would. Most
people that's part of having, the juice you know. You
could it sucks if You're a, laker fan, you're like but,
IT'S like i understand where he's coming from in this
situation when they put out a Statement from jaden, that
like my team Is, hand no this. Is you your
team doesn't have skin in, this game and you were

(38:01):
such a, huge part potentially for the rest of your
life of being ASSOCIATED with Lsu this heisman trophy to be.
Like one most schools do not, retire numbers and even if,
they are, how often unlike, the pros do you find, out,
like hey we got the number one. Overall quarterback he
Hit Up, matt lioner he hit up so and so player,
AT's program and they let him take. The number there's

(38:21):
one hundred guys on, every, roster right there's not enough
roster spots to take the numbers usually have. Duplicate numbers
the other thing is you were promised by a guy
who got fired AND laying i guess the corner that
has the number was like a top ten overall recruit clearly.
Told THEM if i don't, Get five i'm. Not hit
i'm hitting. The portal i'm out. Of here lane's like, numbers,

(38:42):
yours bro which we all would have done if we
Were in, Laane seat but for him to take it
this part of all the programs they would be on
the short, List OF like i wouldn't want this program
turned against me, their players, the program their fans like
you're a you are a sacred individual there for the
rest of, your life nil using my name image and,

(39:06):
like this like what are you're gonna make if things
go well? For you hundreds of millions? Of dollars it's
completely irrelevant and over a broken promise that good life
lesson handshake deals don't. Mean shit, you know get that
thing in writing if you.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Want, to well here's the. Other thing when somebody's famous,
and rich you can have cousins and friends and parents,
around you but they aren't famous, and rich and sometimes
like like, you know, Every Room jadeen daniels walks into
IN the dc area like he, stops traffic like everybody turns,
and looks and you just have to be. More careful

(39:43):
you can't have a cocktail, in public you know. You
can't you can't argue with somebody. In public and it's
just like one of these THINGS where i, feel like,
you know he let his mom take advantage, of it
and or he let his mom take care, of it
and all of a sudden the thing unravels and then
it looks bad on him out with a, statement, Saying
Hey i'm i'm just LOOKING at. Nfl FOOTBALL all i

(40:04):
care About is september and. GETTING better i. Felt bad
support for today's episode Comes, from square the system powering
like half THE places. I go if you've ever tapped
to pay, and thought well that, was fast it Was.
Probably square whether you're, selling lattes, cutting hair running a
packed game, day spot or managing a, Design studio square

(40:26):
helps you run your business without running yourself into. The
ground square is the platform behind the scenes of so
many business as you. Already love whether somebody's selling smoothies or,
cutting hair, fixing bikes running, A boutique square gives them
one connected system to, take payments, manage inventory run payrolls,
and invoices track it all in. One place squares in.
Just fast, it's, smart transparent built for the way people

(40:48):
actually run. Their business, no contract no hidden feno. Complicated
installs if you're starting a business or running one that deserves,
Better tools square helps, to, sell manage and grow without.
Slowing down, right now up to two hundred Dollars Off
square Hardware at square dot com slash go. Slash hurt
that's S q u a e r dot com SLASH

(41:09):
g O. Slash hurt run your business Partner? Was square
get started today right now two hundred Bucks off square
Hardware at square dot com slash Go slash colin S
q U a r e dot com slash Go. SLASH
colin i should. Mention This this this made me. VERY
happy i Do think seatle is a bit under the

(41:33):
radar As A super bowl, repeat champion considering they lost.
Three starters they replaced them all in the first. Three
Picks But sam darnold voted on by PLAYERS The nfl top.
One hundred donald was ranked twenty first and the fifth,
Highest quarterback and this goes to something. Players love athletic
Players like westbrook was beloved by players even More Than

(41:56):
steph Curry because westbrook was just so sensationally and, you
know couldn't shoot bad hands for, a guard but got
he was just fun, to watch and he was tough
and strong. And Aggressive donald it's interesting to Listen to.
Seattle people his teammates, defend Him like sam is one of,
those guys not the. Highest paid he really doesn't. Seek

(42:19):
publicity he's really EVEN when i saw him at, the wedding,
you know he was at a wedding for was it
McCaffrey who got Married?

Speaker 2 (42:29):
In rhodes was McCaffrey? LAST year a couple of years
ago it.

Speaker 1 (42:31):
Was McCaffrey Was greg Olds And, Jonathan Stewart. SAM darnold,
i mean you'd Have thought darnold was a, long snapper
like he is so. Low profiles he grew up in.
Ocean side he's a. Beach kid, you know, if jeans
flip flops AND a t shirt and, a Hat. That's
sam he just he's just the most normal guy in.

(42:52):
The WORLD and i did think it was interesting that
players see him as a top twenty five player in the,
league now as the fifth. Highest quarterback that's probably more
than most people want. A STOMACH but i do think
there is something to say there is Something about sam
is that in high school and college he was so
damn athletic that things did. COME easier, i mean, he

(43:14):
played he had a. Bad coach, in college he played,
hero ball, you know And Beat penn state And beat
texas on just without a lot of talent around him
and not a lot of. Guys drafted he was just
and then he Gets To new york and the talent
stuff just doesn't work because it's such a. Dysfunctional ORGANIZATION
but I when i look at this and, people go,
no way my take is just don't forget his last

(43:37):
YEAR at usc and go look at. His highlights how
much we All Love. SAM darnald i mean there was
he had a little bit of a hitch in. HIS
swing i mean a little bit of a hitch in his,
throwing motion which he had to. Clean up everybody's, Got
SOMETHING but i think sometimes, we, think well it's. Just.
Coaching now People loved donald out.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
Of.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
US see i remember his pro was like.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
Televised live it was almost Crazy That baker mayfield went,
above him just, because physically, You know sam was on a.
DIFFERENT level i think there are a lot. Of similarities sam's,
More talented but when you just go through shit and
you're a high level guy and everyone likes you and
you come out on the. Other End When, alex smith
by the time he Got To, kansas city he was

(44:22):
a pretty weathered individual that had seen it all and was.
Completely unfazed but part of it was he wasn't like
bitter and angry throughout the process of. The, negative right some.
Guys thrive, you know what was your, old saying, you
know holding a grudges like chainsmoking HATE like i can't
Live Like, Dave portanly, you know he could just be
anger at everybody and it gives. Him energy, FOR me

(44:42):
i GET so i don't like feeling like that all.
The time i'm not driven. By, that, baker right is
clearly that feeds in Loves, the sam so you're your
personality like if, that does you need some of that
to get, your, Fire. Clearly sam whenever you watch these
preseason games once, or twice they will have a prominent

(45:03):
player on the team miked up with. The broadcaster it's
usually some sort of star power and a guy that's
really good with. THE media i remember a YEAR ago
i was Watching the vikings Game justin jefferson did the
entire Quarter With. Paul allen they're a guy and they were.
Just going it was like they were hosting. A podcast,
i'm like this guy not only is an, incredible talent

(45:24):
but you could just tell super, high character, super smart just.
Super personable you know every team had ideally it's. Your
Quarterback well seattle Watching the cowboy game, last night who
do they give the heads? To? Do sam and for
like ten minutes you, just watch he's they're asking him
gems on this draft class and. He's given it's just
that ability at football because you interact with so many other.

(45:45):
Human beings like, in basketball you gotta deal with four
or five guys on your team that, really matter maybe
even less than that two. Or three everyone else is a.
Role player you don't even need to be that nice
to your coach like, in football like your defensive guy's
got to play hard, for you let alone your own
five guys blocking for you and the other guys making place,
for you and then your, coaching staff like your personal

(46:07):
skills are really. Really Important it's we've been pretty lucky
over the course of the last six seven years with
The Mahomes, lamar josh like these are incredible talents who
are even Obviously the Daks, the goths who are just like,
great guys and just if you have, a kid, You're
like i'd want my kid to look up to all.

(46:28):
These guys IT'S why i When A deshaun watson's, situation
happens and other Positions Like, karyn arnold, you're, like yeah
it happens all the time with DB's and. Wide receivers
quarterback you're, like out, you know, you know because it's
just a. Non start roethlisberger could never really. Shake it
people are just. Like scumbag, you know you just you
don't because at quarterback typically It's Like, Drew Brees, peyton manning,

(46:50):
You Know. Eli manning it's like married bunch. Of kids,
you know just everyone. Likes them they have friends all over,
the place all, their teammates rich, and poor like the
practice squad guy will be like nicest guy in the
locker room, right there and that that matters so much.
A quarterback And then sam's got a, Huge arm like
when you watch the highlights, from, this oh From This,

(47:11):
Hard knocks, you're like this guy can sling it like
as good as it gets IN, the nfl the power of,
his arm and then the interaction with, his teammates who's,
like this it's why on that list he. WAS fourteenth i,
just went you can't put to, one, year okay but
back to, back, years, like yeah he's got some flies
going to turn.

Speaker 1 (47:31):
It a TOTALLY different o, line, coordinator coach. Culture room
that's just that's. Just different that's that's a that's. A
trend now That's NOT.

Speaker 2 (47:42):
Can I can i tell you? Something else how many
Was the bears? Game, Packed.

Speaker 1 (47:48):
Okay i'll tell. You that i'm so glad you. Asked
THAT so i Sat In, kevin warrens. THE president i
sat in his Box and kevin And Had. Newer davis
it was a lot of the executives For, the bears
and so it was really interesting their analytics, head guy
not only for the, football part but for the front.
Office part their analytics crew is. Really Sharp and i'm sitting,

(48:10):
there asking, You know kevin about like football stuff off.
The FIELD so i went down to the field watched the,
warm UPS but i was really interested in the analytics of.
THE business i met, the chef, you know the team
guy running that like that kind of stuff. Fascinates me IN,
the NFL and I mean kevin like, he said oh.
Don't know we just like he could follow the attendance to,

(48:32):
the minute like he knew when people were going through
and so, by halftime because there was an air show
going On, in chicago and that meant the traffic was worse,
than average so they weren't there for a lot of the.
First quarters he had the. Air Show the cubs and
the cards their biggest, rivalry is, you know forty minutes up,
the road and you Had the. Bears game it was

(48:52):
seventy five, percent full and it was Interesting because john
it was the last row in the stadium had as
many it's the. First row so it was not like
the bad seats. Were, OPEN no i mean it looked
like by the end of. THE game, i left end
of the, THIRD quarter i Turned, TO kevin, I met, i'm,
like man you got to be happy with This. At
tennant's this is crazy considering you have The. In chicago

(49:15):
the air and water show. Is massive it's. Just gigantic
and Then the cubs are playing the Red hot cubs
are Playing, the cardinals and it was it felt like
it looked like it was ninety percent full and it
was about seventy.

Speaker 2 (49:27):
FIVE because i turned On The SEATTLE cow i was
trying To get jack to sleep. Walking around that game
kicked off at, five O'clock so i'm watching the pregame
and then they kick off and they show. The stadium,
i'm like it doesn't look like there's an, empty SEAT
and i get, it's cowboys but still, backups everywhere. No
STARTS and i, started thinking because we last week on
your show talked a lot about the sale Of, the

(49:48):
Lakers and i've listened to a lot of discourse about
these rich guys. Getting involved it's much different than the
Than The, Al Davis george steinbranner types that it was their.
Life RIGHT and i, just thought and even some of
the other conversation around some of these, purchases, are well,
this guy like the guy that just Purchased The, seattle
seahawks he owned a piece Of. The niners his son

(50:09):
works For. THE niners a lot of people think he
bought the team For his niners must be or for
his son must, be, nice, like well He's a niner fan.
At heart Or the, Laker Guy bob eiger Likes. The knicks,
i'm like once you purchase one of. These teams anyone in,
Any Business like i'm forty. YEARS old a lot of,
My friends i'm a generation where unlike, my parents they've
had seven. Different, jobs right MOST people i knew, grewing up,

(50:32):
my parents their friends had kind of the same job
most of, their life did not. Change companies when they
change companies LIKE well i used to, do THIS now i.
Do that they're come just. ALL in a lot of
them working these tech companies gets like. STOCK options i
got skin in. The game there's kind of numb to it, and,
business well so are these People that, it's, like well
he's not gonna he's gonna treat the team more like.
A business i would agree if like a hedge fund

(50:55):
was buying, these, things yeah they would look. At it
if an individual, buys this whether they used to Be
a knicks fan and now they Own, the clippers or
whether they used to Be a niner fan and now They.
Own seattle once you're there and these are, your people
and you're working WITH the gm and the coach, And
one seattle's got to be one of the greatest purchases
in the history of. Professional sports given their infrastructure and
their setup for the next couple, of YEARS but i

(51:16):
think like you just kind of become all in on
what you're working on and what you're. INVOLVED in i
didn't root For the eagles, growing up AND then i
got hired by HIM and i was. All in it's
kind of, the WAY like i just think that the
conversation around some of these purchases and people not caring
because it's more like a spreadsheet. To them as long
as there is an individual at the top that is

(51:38):
the most vested he, ESPECIALLY nowadays i think he's gonna
treat it very heavily because it's such a. Public job
you will get drugged through the mut if you do.
A Shit DAVE tepper's, i think widely considered one of
the greatest guys in the History Of, wall street viewed
as a genius when it comes to making created his,
own company and then one like a twenty five year

(52:00):
runners listen to a podcast that returned better than any
act of fun and like the history Of the internet
during that run from like nineteen ninety eight up until like,
twenty twenty and he's a Buck Of carolina panthers and
everyone just. Starts talking when has anyone ever said anything
negatively about him in the. Finance world, if anything he
was held up like a like a like He was.

Speaker 1 (52:20):
Jesus crushed for three years Kind.

Speaker 2 (52:22):
Of yeah and if this year doesn't, Go Right jimmy
haslam has this fortune is going these guys that you
have way more pressure on you doing this because of
how public facing the. GIG is i just think that
people are worried, about that like this is going to
be treated like your. Average company you can't, it's important
doesn't mean you're gonna get, it right doesn't mean it's gonna.

(52:44):
Go Well but I'm watching seattle thinking like if you
just bought, that team even if you were a fan of,
another team once you started going to these Games around John,
and mike you'd just be like the chests be in
the middle of the table in. This ORGANIZATION.

Speaker 1 (52:56):
If i said, to you the sixth most important people
IN an, nfl franchise take the, owner out you Buy.
The seahawks they have arguably THE best gm in, his
prime top three coach in, his prime top ten quarterback in,
His Prime, charles cross top ten tackle in, his prime almost,

(53:18):
top ten top, five corner maybe the second first second. Best,
corner witherspoon the best wide receiver or. Second best look
at the positions, that, matter, weapon, corner. Tackle. QUARTERBACK Coach
gm seattle is like one. OF one i mean Even
the rams have an old quarterback like the Like the

(53:40):
seahawks of the eight. OR nine, I mean I Guess,
DeMarcus lawrence this will be the. Last year they're probably
missing a all time great. Edge rusher outside, of, THAT like,
i mean they haven't missed on a top two draft
pick in like five. Four YEARS so, I mean i when, people,
say oh nine billion dollars rev, new machine most popular

(54:02):
team not only in That, State, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, oregon
washington that's That's all. Husky fans like it's a five
state area by, The, WAY, vancouver bc That's all, SEAHAWKS fans,
I said. Husky fans That's all. Seahawk fans seahawks own like,
you Know. Southern vancouver they on that. Whole region SO

(54:25):
and I just i'm one of those that believes people
have been saying this. For Years When steve baumer paid
two billion bucks cash For, The clippers, i'm, like hey,
no banknote so you're not gonna have. Any interest he's
not paying three for something. That's two it's you buy a,
car cash he's never. Selling it and it's like if
you find a house on the Beach In manhattan beach

(54:46):
and it's listed at twenty million and you outbid and
paid twenty, Three, million well you're gonna make your money
back in about a year and a half if you're
never gonna sell it and you want it to be in.
The family? Who, cares honestly who cares if you have.
The MONEY so i tend to think you cannot overpay for.
A Franchise but seattle has literally these seven or eight

(55:07):
most important things from, left, tackle, quarterback, CORNER weapon. GM
coach I mean mike McDonald could coach there potentially for.

Speaker 2 (55:14):
Fifteen years, you know in a day and age too
where everyone's on. Gop ones he looks like he's doing
hgh and we see.

Speaker 3 (55:21):
That guy, looks fantastic he's getting his arms getting bigger by.
THE year i mean that guy is That that uh
you know the, preseason games you kind of start because
you're excited you see the brand and it Was Like,
cowboy seattle and.

Speaker 2 (55:35):
Then you're like two series in, you're, like eh this is, you.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
Know this is one of those, you're, like ah THAT'S what.
I go i watched, two SERIES like i Watched the
bears to the end of the, third QUARTER but i
wanted To see. SHADOR playing i wanted To See, malik
Muhammad the. OREGON safety i Met the oregon. Safety's dad
they got Him. From purdue if you remember, the kid
He's a, midwest kid great, great dad. Awesome DAD and
i mean he came right Over and i'm talking to

(55:59):
his dad and the over to, the sideline. So everything
when you're on, THE field i just don't think the.
Average fan some of. These guys there are, six six
two hundred and eighty pound guys and their, flat bellies
they have NO fat i saw a couple Of the
bears guys that. Were out they weren't gonna. Play right

(56:20):
they just had him in sweats and. Their Linemen and
i'm Just, LIKE jesus, I mean i'm bigger than the.
Average man it's six two. BUCK ninety i look like
these guys.

Speaker 2 (56:30):
Little KIDS when i went into radio and started going
from just football games to All the warriors games and,
baseball games, you know you go TO, the nba they got.
Tall guys, BUT besides i remember Thinking Like klay thompson
had a lower body that reminded ME. Of nfl he
had thick thighs and like his legs. Were thick but
you'd SEE some, nba guys it's like this guy might

(56:52):
not even weigh one hundred. Ninety pounds he's six. Foot nine,
you know there are a Lot More kevin durantz There than.
Shaquille o'neils and say thing with baseball when you go,
to football beside maybe some wide receivers, and dbs everyone
is small guys. Two twenty you get, the linebackers they're,
two forty and these guys have no body fat and

(57:12):
anyone playing on the line, of scrimmage they would be
the biggest human being if you just see them walk
by them that you would see in society for a
year plus just doing everything you do.

Speaker 1 (57:23):
In Life, JALEN johnson i went To the. Bears practice
he comes up to Me because i've had him on
BEFORE and I, know jalen he. Knows me he comes
over to me, after practice takes his, helmet, obviously yo
and he comes up and we. Pat. Down DUDE when
i grabbed, HIS shoulder i could. FEEL it i could
feel the layers, of muscle like. His hall it was

(57:44):
just like his wrist. Was thick i'm just like what
you think.

Speaker 2 (57:49):
About, it see it's the only sport where you lift
more than, you, Play, right baseball basketball you don't lift
more than you. PLAY football i mean even during season
you're lifting two to three times, a week and then
the off season some of these guys five to SIX so,
i mean and they're already genetically the cream of.

Speaker 1 (58:05):
The, Crop, yeah no it's just A w I'M just
i appreciate going on the field for fifteen minutes and
watching back of the, end zone watch the lineman go through.
Their work, you're like what do?

Speaker 2 (58:18):
You Love? WINNING comet, i mean how good do those two?
GUYS look i mean they are just what? Are they six?
Four To? WHAT'S loveland?

Speaker 1 (58:25):
I was i was in A Usc notre, dame Played
And cole comet was in. The booth he. Came home
he was actually visiting SOMEBODY in LA and i saw
him up on the, Press Level, cole comet and he.
Came over a. Nice Guy. Notre dame guyser was Great
And jesus. COLE is, i MEAN it's i mean like

(58:46):
six five and, a half two, fifty five, you know
wearing a golf shirt and, you're, like well there was
a bench they benched three forty five.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
Multiple times you were probably talking to. The chef but
there was a play probably in like the second quarter
of that Game where rausch was in and, you know
they but all they losted a couple of runs in,
that game and they, YOU know I Think jim miller
is the color guy for the preseason For. The, bears
yeah and It Was sam rousch on a down block
and it was JUST and i went, Right, away yeah he's,

(59:14):
sixty six two sixty five and what do you how
big do you think defensive ends IN? THE nfl, nfl
are especially backups? Like That didn't they kind of get
criticized for. That pick, it's like why are They Taking? Sam,
roush well he's kind of like a. Third tackle.

Speaker 1 (59:30):
Let me tell. YOU something, i mean it's just Amazing
because loveland, PRACTICE today i. SAW him i don't Know if,
Comet did, loveland Did and. Rausch, Did dude rausch does
not look like. A rookie he he was the best blocking.
Tight end Him and Delp. From Georgia's the Saints. Drafted
delp he was a tight End. From georgia he, can
block and that's rausch. And it but when you, watch

(59:53):
him and by, the way one thing offensive, COACHES love,
i mean it's hard to get on the field as
a tight end if you, don't block like if you.
Don't blog that's why tight end can be a tricky.
Rookie season roush will play twenty five snaps a game
like he is just he. Just Lot Remember mark bruner
for years played like For. The seers he Played. At
washington he was my. Dad's accountant he played high school

(01:00:17):
football in my hometown and got drafted and his dad was,
a massive. MASSIVE man i saw him a couple of
times with, my DAD and I Remember mark bruner went
to That great husky team that won the national championship
and he was like the only freshman that like played
and They Asked don james, about it and, he's, like
yeah after about, Two practices, i'm like he's the best
blocking Tight end i've had in the history of. The,

(01:00:38):
program like if you, can, block coaches it's like they
used to say, in basketball if, you rebound it's hard
to take you off. The floor you equal possessions if.
You block as a tight end and. CAN catch, i
mean it's just it's hard to not, YOU know i
mean you can how do you take? It off? You
Know because loveland, may block but he's not known that

(01:00:58):
he's a stretch the. Field guy but it's it's INTERESTING
when i go there to watch all the rookies play For.
The bears all of them are going to contribute, as
rookies all.

Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
Of, them yeah concept. She owned he had a couple
of sweet little. End rounds he. Can, fly No, He's.

Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Cleveland cleveland they. Found one they just can't get to,
the call but they use jet sweeps and. Ends around
he is a. Special player he.

Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Can fly their quarterback situation browses an't going to win
a lot. Of games their quarterback situation is. Not good
but he's he's got a chance to do some things.

Speaker 1 (01:01:30):
