Now here's another thing Brendan Sorosby, and we've talked about
this that he had until June twenty second to declare
if he would win the supplemental Draft. I think all
the pressure that was happening, and it was happening in
real time yesterday. So I was getting information from one
of my sources and he said, hey, he's he's going
to go. He's gonna put his name in for the

supplemental Draft. And then all of a sudden the report
came out. You know, I don't do social media, so
I don't put anything out, you know, but I was
giving a heads up and then you know, Pauline and
I were back and forth and I said, no, it's real.
He's going into the supplemental draft. But also here's something
to keep in mind. Soresby will have to address these issues.
(09:55):
He's got to address the gambling issues. Now when is
he going to be able to with the teams? Does
he have a pro day? And here's another thing. Some
things have emerged from all of this that he has
anxiety and panic disorder issues. So he's got to address
a lot of you know things here. And teams have
to absorb all of this. And normally your NFL teams
(10:18):
will spend close to a year vetting out somebody and
they have to now do this in weeks and I
think that'll be a tricky part here of.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
What are you going to give up?
Speaker 2 (10:29):
And by all accounts, second or third round for Brendan
Sorosby also another thing. I mean, he's very talented. I
think he keeps the nil money. There been reports that
he does. I was told yesterday that he doesn't have
to give the money back. I said how much and
they said it's probably five million dollars. But he rushed

for I think eighteen touchdowns maybe the last couple of
years when he was in Cincinnati. So he is a
talented player, but I don't know how you can bring
him in get these interviews. Does he have a pro day?
Does he even when I have a pro Day? But
you got to answer questions with these teams, and I think,
(11:13):
when are you going to be able to do that?
And what are you going to give up? Second round,
third round? Yeah, Paul, Yeah.

Last year at Cincinnati, twenty seven touchdowns, five picks, he
ran for six hundred yards six yards of carry. Just
hours before he announced his intentions, the Big Twelve yesterday
filed a lawsuit in the District of Texas Northern District
to declare judgment and relief. Basically, they wanted to be
allowed to enforce their bylaws and if they won that

then they were going to sit him the whole year.

Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Yeah, I think it was just all right, we'll give
you your money. We can't do this. And their odds
haven't changed, by the way, to win the National Championship.
I think it's plus two thousand to win it all
unchanged from yesterday. They're also still an overwhelming favorite to
win the Big Twelve.

Curious enough Vegas had sort of factored in that he
was not going to be playing this year, like when
they before he even announced he's going to supplemental draft.
I want like just based on how they priced it,
and it hasn't changed since yesterday. They must have been like,
this probably ain't happening.

Yeah, pulling, does your source have any details on which
city is going to get the NFL supplemental draft, because
that will be that's to be a part of Kate
Verday supplemental Draft.

Yeah, the commissioner comes out, you know, people there from
one pick.

Pittsburgh could do it. They're still the infrastructure, and the.

Cardinals select Brendan Sowersby, goes out and he gets to hug,
take a picture, got a jersey up there. Everybody mel
Kiper discusses Brendan Soorsby, and then everybody goes home. Nothing
to see here. Some success stories from recent supplemental drafts
Josh Gordon, Terrell, Prior, Bernie Kosar, Brian Bosworth, Chris Carter

supplemental drafts and those guys. Bernie Cosar didn't come with baggage.
Bernie wanted to play for the Cleveland Browns. Now, I
don't know how he navigated this ro out smarted people.
It's not like the Boston Celtics drafting Larry Bird a
year before he was going to go in the draft.

According to a couple stories, a Bernie Kosar accelerated his
graduation date so he could lobby and pursue the supplemental draft,
and he won. It was one of those things that
no one expected to happen, according to this story.

Gordon's actually been a supplemental draftee twice. In twenty twenty three,
the Seattle Sea Dragon stuck him in the sixth round
of the XFL supplemental Draft.

Hmm.

Yeah, so this was yesterday.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
I'm trying to do the timeline when my source said,
spoke with two agents who have talked with source bees
inner circle, and they expect him to go to the draft,
in large part because he doesn't want to cause further
long term damage to himself and this might be just
a clean break and you move on and then somebody's
(14:20):
gonna take him. The question is what do you give
up and how you know, the vetting process I think
is really challenging because let's just say you're taking a talent.
Let's say you're just looking at Cad Klubnik and you're going, Okay,
we need some time. You know, we got to have interviews,
we got to see the medical records. We're gonna look
(14:42):
at tape, We're gonna talk to sources. I mean, there's
a lot that goes into it. But you know, are
you getting access to the medicals? What are you allowed
to ask about the gambling? Are you allowed to I mean,
I don't know. We'll talk to Mike Florio. Can we
talk to the person or people who were at the

rehab facility?

I don't know.

I what, Dylan, Now, I was just gonna say, I
looked at a bad article. It's the headline said Algeria
fires head coach. And then they clicked and it said Tunisia.
Oh okay, all right, never mind. People in Algeria going, wait,
(18:30):
what did he say? Mike Florio Pro Football Talk, And
whenever I need to be made smarter with the NFL,
I always call Mike and Mike joins this. Now, all right, Mike,
how does the supplemental Draft work?
Speaker 11 (18:44):
Well, yeah, Dan, I haven't had one since twenty twenty three,
and I tell them was picked that year. The loteft
was twenty nineteen. And what it is People say the
NFL doesn't have a draft lottery. The supplemental Draft is
basically a lottery. They break the teams into three groups
based on how they finished the prior year. Teams with
six or fewer wins are in one group. Teams with
(19:05):
six and more wins it didn't make the playoffs or
and another playoff teams are in the third that you
awaited lottery to determine priority. And then they basically go
round by round where you have to put in that
you're willing to give up your pick in next year's draft.
If you use, for example, third round pick to get
Brendan Soorsby, you'd lose next year's third round pick. You
bid in advance of the round, and then they see
(19:26):
how many teams put in and the team that is
highest on the priority list gets it.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Okay, maybe it's too early to handicap what he's worth.
I think he's got first round talent. But what is
somebody willing to give up for Brendan Soorsby in your opinion.
Speaker 11 (19:44):
Well, it's going to be a team by team decision, Dan,
and I think it would be foolish to disregard the
outcry over the past week and just the PRF bunglings
by Texas Tech and the storm of controversy that emerged.
I think going to scare some owners off. This is
a guy who touches the ball on every play. You're
gonna want to be one hundred percent sure you're not
(20:06):
gonna have an archi leister or some other issue. In
this day and age where the NFL is trying very
hard to walk the line between profiting from gambling but
also keeping any scandals from infiltrating the sport. I think
that's going to be a big factor, and you get
limited time to properly scout him. You've got limited time
to get to the bottom of the gambling issue in
(20:27):
any associated diagnoses. I think some teams are just going
to say we're not gonna.
Speaker 6 (20:32):
Do it now.
Speaker 11 (20:32):
You're going to have other teams that, like the Browns frankly,
that look at everything as an analytical exercise and they're
going to try to project with the value of Brendan
Soresby is and who knows what they will do. Their coach,
Todd Munkin, is the only coach who has spoken publicly
about Swersby since all of this first came up.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Any chance the NFL does not let Soorsby into the
supplemental draft or punishes him retroactively once so he gets
into the NFL like Chill prior, and.
Speaker 11 (21:03):
Those are the two big questions Dan. First, will they
accept his application for eligibility. I was looking at the
CBA today. There's enough language in there to let them
basically do whatever they want.
Speaker 9 (21:13):
They could say, for example.
Speaker 11 (21:14):
If they want to that you knew you weren't going
to be eligible for twenty twenty six, you knew what
you had done. You knew which way this was going
to go. You deliberately waited until after the regular draft
and then played your cards and realized it wasn't going
to work, and then you went into the supplemental draft.
I'm not saying they're going to do that, but if
the NFL wants to find a way to keep him out,
(21:35):
they could cobble something together. And then as to the suspension, Yeah,
in twenty eleven, throughout prior to station in the five
game suspension from the NCAAA, he ended the supplemental Draft.
They let him in, but then they suspended him five
games to simulate what college football had done. There are
people around the league who already are concerned that he
may not be allowed to play at all in twenty
(21:55):
twenty six under the same reasoning that the NCAA applied.
But the counter to that is two things. One, he
has violated no NFL policies. He's done nothing wrong as
far as the NFL is concerned. To number two, Kayshawn Boody,
the Patriots receiver, he admitted to a gambling addiction. He
admitted he bet on LSU when he played for LSU
and when his underage betting came to light.
Speaker 9 (22:15):
The NFL didn't do anything.
Speaker 11 (22:17):
Now, he'd already been in the NFL for a year,
but the NFL did nothing to him.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
I couldn't help but notice the lawyer that he hired,
Jeffrey Kessler, who's been a thorn in the side of
the NFL. I think worked for the NFL Players Association,
if I have that right, Mike, Yeah, he's.
Speaker 11 (22:32):
Been a long time advocate on behalf of the players.
He's been one of the instrumental figures in the various
anti trust cases that have basically left the NCAA toothless.
And when that hire was made, that was one of
the first points we made at TFT. And this is
a two pronged hire. This is all right, let's try
to let's try to figure out what's going to happen
with NCAAA eligibility. And if that doesn't work, you've got
(22:55):
a guy who who has been in the in the
mud with the NFL many times, and I'm told he's
already working on the NFL to make sure they don't
throw up roadblocks for Brendan Sooresby.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Who had a good day yesterday, Mike, a good day.
NCAA Big twelve Texas Tech.
Speaker 11 (23:15):
An existential.
Speaker 9 (23:17):
Look.
Speaker 11 (23:18):
It was a good day for the NCAA. It was
a good day for the Big Twelve. I think what
happened yesterday between the Big Twelve filing its lawsuit against
Texas Tech and the NCAA filing its appeal in the
roling that would have allowed stores me to play this year,
I think he realized I can't take the chance that
I ultimately don't play at all in twenty twenty six.
(23:41):
They put him in checkmate, and the only smart move
at that point was to say, I'm just going to
fold the tents on this when and go to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
I don't know access to medical records, Mike. You know
that the gambling part of this. I was also told
that through all of this he had anxiety and panic
disorder issues like I don't know what's fair game here.
If I'm a team that I can ask for and
that they would accommodate.
Speaker 11 (24:09):
Well, you know how this goes, Dan. They get everything.
They get everything. That's why they do the scouting combine.
They go there to poking Proud and find out anything
they can physically and medically about the player and if
there's any resistance in being fully transparent, then they just
won't draft you. And so he's going to have to
be ready to let them ask any and all questions
they want to ask. He's going to have to answer
them persuasively. And that's the kind of thing where I
(24:31):
think owners who are already on the fence, if they
get the impression they're not getting the full story, they're
not going to authorize next year's draft pick on a
guy who may not play for them this year.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
If ever, if you're the NFL and I give you
one question to ask in this situation, what are you asking?

this that he had until June twenty second to declare
if he would win the supplemental Draft. I think all
the pressure that was happening, and it was happening in
real time yesterday. So I was getting information from one
of my sources and he said, hey, he's he's going
to go. He's gonna put his name in for the

supplemental Draft. And then all of a sudden the report
came out. You know, I don't do social media, so
I don't put anything out, you know, but I was
giving a heads up and then you know, Pauline and
I were back and forth and I said, no, it's real.
He's going into the supplemental draft. But also here's something
to keep in mind. Soresby will have to address these issues.
(09:55):
He's got to address the gambling issues. Now when is
he going to be able to with the teams? Does
he have a pro day? And here's another thing. Some
things have emerged from all of this that he has
anxiety and panic disorder issues. So he's got to address
a lot of you know things here. And teams have
to absorb all of this. And normally your NFL teams

will spend close to a year vetting out somebody and
they have to now do this in weeks and I
think that'll be a tricky part here of.

What are you going to give up?

And by all accounts, second or third round for Brendan
Sorosby also another thing. I mean, he's very talented. I
think he keeps the nil money. There been reports that
he does. I was told yesterday that he doesn't have
to give the money back. I said how much and
they said it's probably five million dollars. But he rushed

for I think eighteen touchdowns maybe the last couple of
years when he was in Cincinnati. So he is a
talented player, but I don't know how you can bring
him in get these interviews. Does he have a pro day?
Does he even when I have a pro Day? But
you got to answer questions with these teams, and I think,

when are you going to be able to do that?
And what are you going to give up? Second round,
third round? Yeah, Paul, Yeah.

Last year at Cincinnati, twenty seven touchdowns, five picks, he
ran for six hundred yards six yards of carry. Just
hours before he announced his intentions, the Big Twelve yesterday
filed a lawsuit in the District of Texas Northern District
to declare judgment and relief. Basically, they wanted to be
allowed to enforce their bylaws and if they won that

then they were going to sit him the whole year.

Yeah, I think it was just all right, we'll give
you your money. We can't do this. And their odds
haven't changed, by the way, to win the National Championship.

Bernie wanted to play for the Cleveland Browns. Now, I
don't know how he navigated this ro out smarted people.
It's not like the Boston Celtics drafting Larry Bird a

According to a couple stories, a Bernie Kosar accelerated his
graduation date so he could lobby and pursue the supplemental draft,
and he won. It was one of those things that
no one expected to happen, according to this story.

up and how you know, the vetting process I think
is really challenging because let's just say you're taking a talent.
Let's say you're just looking at Cad Klubnik and you're going, Okay,
we need some time. You know, we got to have interviews,
we got to see the medical records. We're gonna look

at tape, We're gonna talk to sources. I mean, there's
a lot that goes into it. But you know, are
you getting access to the medicals? What are you allowed
to ask about the gambling? Are you allowed to I mean,
I don't know. We'll talk to Mike Florio. Can we

I what, Dylan, Now, I was just gonna say, I
looked at a bad article. It's the headline said Algeria
fires head coach. And then they clicked and it said Tunisia.
Oh okay, all right, never mind. People in Algeria going, wait,

what did he say? Mike Florio Pro Football Talk, And
whenever I need to be made smarter with the NFL,
I always call Mike and Mike joins this. Now, all right, Mike,
how does the supplemental Draft work?
Speaker 11 (18:44):
Well, yeah, Dan, I haven't had one since twenty twenty three,
and I tell them was picked that year. The loteft
was twenty nineteen. And what it is People say the
NFL doesn't have a draft lottery. The supplemental Draft is
basically a lottery. They break the teams into three groups
based on how they finished the prior year. Teams with
six or fewer wins are in one group. Teams with
(19:05):
six and more wins it didn't make the playoffs or
and another playoff teams are in the third that you
awaited lottery to determine priority. And then they basically go
round by round where you have to put in that
you're willing to give up your pick in next year's draft.
If you use, for example, third round pick to get
Brendan Soorsby, you'd lose next year's third round pick. You
bid in advance of the round, and then they see
(19:26):
how many teams put in and the team that is
highest on the priority list gets it.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Okay, maybe it's too early to handicap what he's worth.
I think he's got first round talent. But what is
somebody willing to give up for Brendan Soorsby in your opinion.
Speaker 11 (19:44):
Well, it's going to be a team by team decision, Dan,
and I think it would be foolish to disregard the
outcry over the past week and just the PRF bunglings
by Texas Tech and the storm of controversy that emerged.
I think going to scare some owners off. This is
a guy who touches the ball on every play. You're
gonna want to be one hundred percent sure you're not
(20:06):
gonna have an archi leister or some other issue. In
this day and age where the NFL is trying very
hard to walk the line between profiting from gambling but
also keeping any scandals from infiltrating the sport. I think
that's going to be a big factor, and you get
limited time to properly scout him. You've got limited time
to get to the bottom of the gambling issue in
(20:27):
any associated diagnoses. I think some teams are just going
to say we're not gonna.
Speaker 6 (20:32):
Do it now.
Speaker 11 (20:32):
You're going to have other teams that, like the Browns frankly,
that look at everything as an analytical exercise and they're
going to try to project with the value of Brendan
Soresby is and who knows what they will do. Their coach,
Todd Munkin, is the only coach who has spoken publicly
about Swersby since all of this first came up.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Any chance the NFL does not let Soorsby into the
supplemental draft or punishes him retroactively once so he gets
into the NFL like Chill prior, and.
Speaker 11 (21:03):
Those are the two big questions Dan. First, will they
accept his application for eligibility. I was looking at the
CBA today. There's enough language in there to let them
basically do whatever they want.
Speaker 9 (21:13):
They could say, for example.
Speaker 11 (21:14):
If they want to that you knew you weren't going
to be eligible for twenty twenty six, you knew what
you had done. You knew which way this was going
to go. You deliberately waited until after the regular draft
and then played your cards and realized it wasn't going
to work, and then you went into the supplemental draft.
I'm not saying they're going to do that, but if
the NFL wants to find a way to keep him out,
(21:35):
they could cobble something together. And then as to the suspension, Yeah,
in twenty eleven, throughout prior to station in the five
game suspension from the NCAAA, he ended the supplemental Draft.
They let him in, but then they suspended him five
games to simulate what college football had done. There are
people around the league who already are concerned that he
may not be allowed to play at all in twenty
(21:55):
twenty six under the same reasoning that the NCAA applied.
But the counter to that is two things. One, he
has violated no NFL policies. He's done nothing wrong as
far as the NFL is concerned. To number two, Kayshawn Boody,
the Patriots receiver, he admitted to a gambling addiction. He
admitted he bet on LSU when he played for LSU
and when his underage betting came to light.
Speaker 9 (22:15):
The NFL didn't do anything.
Speaker 11 (22:17):
Now, he'd already been in the NFL for a year,
but the NFL did nothing to him.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
I couldn't help but notice the lawyer that he hired,
Jeffrey Kessler, who's been a thorn in the side of
the NFL. I think worked for the NFL Players Association,
if I have that right, Mike, Yeah, he's.
Speaker 11 (22:32):
Been a long time advocate on behalf of the players.
He's been one of the instrumental figures in the various
anti trust cases that have basically left the NCAA toothless.
And when that hire was made, that was one of
the first points we made at TFT. And this is
a two pronged hire. This is all right, let's try
to let's try to figure out what's going to happen
with NCAAA eligibility. And if that doesn't work, you've got
(22:55):
a guy who who has been in the in the
mud with the NFL many times, and I'm told he's
already working on the NFL to make sure they don't
throw up roadblocks for Brendan Sooresby.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Who had a good day yesterday, Mike, a good day.
NCAA Big twelve Texas Tech.
Speaker 11 (23:15):
An existential.
Speaker 9 (23:17):
Look.
Speaker 11 (23:18):
It was a good day for the NCAA. It was
a good day for the Big Twelve. I think what
happened yesterday between the Big Twelve filing its lawsuit against
Texas Tech and the NCAA filing its appeal in the
roling that would have allowed stores me to play this year,
I think he realized I can't take the chance that
I ultimately don't play at all in twenty twenty six.
(23:41):
They put him in checkmate, and the only smart move
at that point was to say, I'm just going to
fold the tents on this when and go to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
I don't know access to medical records, Mike. You know
that the gambling part of this. I was also told
that through all of this he had anxiety and panic
disorder issues like I don't know what's fair game here.
If I'm a team that I can ask for and
that they would accommodate.
Speaker 11 (24:09):
Well, you know how this goes, Dan. They get everything.
They get everything. That's why they do the scouting combine.
They go there to poking Proud and find out anything
they can physically and medically about the player and if
there's any resistance in being fully transparent, then they just
won't draft you. And so he's going to have to
be ready to let them ask any and all questions
they want to ask. He's going to have to answer
them persuasively. And that's the kind of thing where I
(24:31):
think owners who are already on the fence, if they
get the impression they're not getting the full story, they're
not going to authorize next year's draft pick on a
guy who may not play for them this year.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
If ever, if you're the NFL and I give you
one question to ask in this situation, what are you asking?
Speaker 11 (24:51):
Wow, that's a good question, which is my way of
buying time. I don't think that there is any one question.
I think you just need to know everything you can
about how he got here and where he is now,
what is his status right now? And you know, any addiction,
(25:13):
any addiction is that you don't just flip the switch.
It's a process, and I would want to have somebody
fully evaluate where he is right now and is he
ready to jump straight into an NFL training camp with
no off season.
Speaker 9 (25:25):
He's going to get.
Speaker 11 (25:26):
Drafted if he does, and he's going to go straight
to training camp. That's a hell of an adjustment for
a guy who's apparently dealing with anxiety and stress and
try to overcome this addiction. So I would just want
to have a very reliable snapshot of what's going on
with him right now.

represent the league, I would say, when you were at Indiana,
were you told in advance you can't gamble on sports,

I think compliance meets with athletes before the year starts

so many layers to this you know, did Texas Tech
know that he was betting and they still took him in?

let this story leak? I think he still went in
their lawsuit of a million dollars nil with Cincinnati and
Rendon Sorsby.

or I mean, it seems like because I know he
was betting through I think he's betting himself, but a

some type of law enforcement entity in April, and when
Soorsby and his people heard about this, they decided to
air quote self report to get ahead of the story.

ultimately they did. Is the Big Twelve board of governors
came out united and said in a statement he should
not be playing, and that really ended up overriding the

to the Big Twelve and what Mike Florio said corrupt
prior when he went and supplemental draft got a five
game suspension from the NFL for violations a lot less
egregious than Brendan Soorsby.

effects teams interested in him, I mean, is he worth
the compensation, the potential distraction he may end up in
