Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Our one on this Thursday. The Giants are getting their man.
Not official yet, but it looks like John Harball will
be the next head coach of the New York Football Giants.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Come out in stay a while. Fritzy's here.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
When I count my blessings, I count my blessings with
Todd twice. Wow, Seaton's here, Marv's here, Paula yours truly,
and of course the backroom guys, we're available.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
If you'd like to dial us up.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Each seven to seven to three DP show, Tyler will
take your phone calls, and if you want to watch
the program you can. You can watch on Peacock. That's
our streaming partner. Lewis Riddick of the Mothership coming up
a little bit later on Former Heisman winner or G
three will stop by as well. But John Harball and
the Giants reportedly finalizing a deal. This is who they wanted.
(00:53):
And my source told me when all of these firings happen,
it was one guy is going to take the Giants job,
one guy is going to take the Falcons job, and
the other guy was Kevin Stefanski. Now We've had a
lot more turnover since then. You obviously have the Steelers situation,
but Kevin Stefanski might end up with the Falcons, but
John Harball is going to the New York Football Giants.
(01:16):

neutrofol dot com, use the promo code. Dan Patrick got
a pull a question, Play of the Day, stat of
the Day. All of that forthcoming. There's eight openings right
now in the NFL. Other news, the Oregon quarterback Dante
Moore is going to stay for another year, and I
agree with this decision. I think this is a very smart,
(01:58):
astute decision by him. Now you're probably saying, well, wait
a minute. He could get forty million dollars going to
the Jets. He could and then be a backup quarterback.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
In three years. He's only twenty years of age.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
He needs more starts, as I've told you, only because
you know, an NFL scout told me I got to
have at least thirty starts for quarterbacks. And look at
all the decisions that have been made recently in drafts
where you're drafting somebody who had a really good year
and that's all they played. You got to get at
least thirty starts. Dante Moore goes back to Oregon and
(02:32):
you'll get paid well, get compensated. And yes, is he
passing up being the number two quarterback in the draft.
Probably so. And when he comes out the following year,
maybe he's a late first round pick, but he might
be going to a better team and having more reps
in college. I think it's it's not being short sighted,
and being short sighted would be I'm just going to
(02:54):
go into the NFL at age twenty and go to
the Jets.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
That's a recipe for disaster.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
And in my opinion, him going back to Oregon play
another year you had a terrible playoff game and go
back there and clean those things up, and I think
it's a very smart decision on his part. Dylan Ryola
was leaving Nebraska go to Oregon, which really made things
a lot more interesting because he's probably thinking, all right,
(03:23):
let me get out of here. I'll go to Oregon,
make some coin, and then I'll go to the NFL. Now,
all of a sudden, it's a wait a minute, what happened?
Speaker 3 (03:34):
What did he know? And when did he know it?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Because this was a highly thought of quarterback coming out
of high school. Never lived up to the billing. He
was the second coming of Patrick Mahomes only in how
he presented himself. But now you go to Oregon and
you're going to be a backup quarterback to Dante More.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Yes, we do an early poll question, would you rather
be a starter at Nebraska or a backup at Oregon?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
That is five minutes in means spirited. Hey, it's not me.
I'm just those are vs. Those are verbatim. What just happened?
That's literally what? Yeah, But he just chose. The guy
who's going to benefit is Alabama's quarterback Ty Simpson. He's
going to be the one that probably is going to
be a top fifteen pick now and I don't know
if he's a first round draft pick. He showed signs
(04:22):
there were where I thought, man, this guy is smooth.
I need to see more reps man. What did he
have one season at Alabama where he started. I think
he played in some games the previous year. But you
know that's where you go. Would Pittsburgh start their search
for a new quarterback? What do they have the thirteenth
pick in the draft day, he would take Ty Simpson. Yeah, see,
(04:45):
that's his great news for Ty Simpson.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
It's terrible news for an NFL coach who doesn't know
he's about to be fired next year.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Wow. Yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
The Steelers had the twenty first pup of the draft
and the situation with Don According to CBS Sports, Dylan,
Riola offered to red shirt if he came back, so
he was aware there was a possibility that Moore would
come back when he committed to Oregon.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Okay, yeah, I think I'd rather go where I'm going
to start, not where I'm going to red shirt or
be a backup. But Oregon's a great landing spot. He's
going to get paid there. But now you sit, Yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
I think Riola maybe making a great long term play
if he sits this year, gets his you know what,
together has one great year at Oregon. Bo nixs parlay
that into a first round draft pick. When he left
Auburn it was not going well, and Dante more He's
could have been the number two pick. So I think
long term, great move.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
All Right, we'll come up with the pole question here
eight seven seven to three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick
dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. Ian O'Connor of
the Athletics said, in a meeting with John Harball's camp,
not in person, John Marra, Chris Merra, Jim McDonald, this
is the Giants front office. Money would not be an issue.
(06:03):
The Giants obviously knew Harball was around eighteen million in
Baltimore and expecting this final number with the Giants to
be around twenty million dollars for five years. Yeah, I'm
not surprised at that that would be the going rate.
I think that those numbers were out there that he
wanted twenty million, He wanted ten million for his staff,
he wanted total control. But the reports i'm seeing they're
(06:27):
going to keep Joe Shane the general manager, that John
Harball met with Shane and had a nice meeting with
him as his general manager. All right, so we'll get
to your phone calls coming up. The Steelers' owner addressed
the Mike Tomlin departure. Art Rooney the Second talked about
Mike Tomlin and was it his choice to step down?
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Well, it was his decision.
Speaker 6 (06:51):
And you know, I will say that I wasn't shocked,
but I wasn't expect that conversation yesterday either, So you know,
there were you know, when you get to this stage
of a career. Obviously, he even mentioned it himself that
he was nearer to the end than the beginning. And so,
(07:14):
as I said, I can't say that I was shocked.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah, but he also framed this in a way that
was he surprised at this, Yes he was. So that's
why I don't think that he was forced out. I
think Mike Tomlin realized that maybe he had taken this
team as far as he could take them. John Harball
didn't realize that ownership told him to realize that he
had taken the team as far as he could take them.
(07:41):
Then there's this question to Art Rooney the Second about
was there a possibility of Tomlin coming back?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Would you have been willing to give Mike the extensionized
contracted four twenty twenty seven March, and did he ask
for that.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
No, I'm not going to get into his contract at
this point. We certainly, I was certainly willing to take
another run at it next year with Mike and and
you know, that's what I was expecting to talk about yesterday,
but obviously went in a different direction.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah, I truly believe Mike Tomlin realized that it was
time to go, and him and John Harball about the
same timeline. The you know, Baltimore Ravens approach was far different.
They were firing John Harbaugh. The Steelers now have to
replace Mike Tomlin because Mike Tomlin decided that he didn't
(08:34):
want to coach there anymore. The betting lines for this weekend,
the Bills are getting one and a half at Denver
the forty nine Ers. Yesterday they were getting seven and
a half. Now they're getting seven in Seattle, Texan's getting
three in New England, and the Rams are giving three
and a half against the Bears. National Title game hasn't changed.
(08:54):
Did change yesterday from seven and a half to eight
and a half for Miami against Indiana and for under
forty seven and a half this according to DraftKings. I
also had the number one pick odds for the NFL,
Fernando Mendoza is minus eight thousand, Trinidad Shambleiss is second
at plus three thousand, and then Ruben Bain Junior the
(09:16):
third at plus six thousand. Fernando Mendoza and the Raiders
are on the clock for the NFL Draft that will
be in Pittsburgh. We will be there for that as well. Yeah,
these other openings, I do credit the Giants. They knew
who they wanted. My source said when he was fired,
immediately sent me a note and saying he'll be number
(09:38):
one on the Giants list. Now, the Giants interviewed him,
and then he went to Atlanta and then came back
and interviewed again, and I think the Giants realized we're
not going to let him out of the building, not
without you know, cementing him as our next head coach. Now,
I'll go back to what I said to you. My
source said, it's either the Falcons or the Giants for
(10:00):
on Harball. He liked what he saw with the Falcons
from what I'm told, But was he using the Falcons
as maybe a negotiating ploy to get a better deal
with the Giant. I don't know that, but I was
told it was either going to be Atlanta or is
going to be the New York Giants. Now you got
Kevin Stefanski out there. I have not heard anything after
(10:22):
that press conference yesterday about Mike Tomlin may be interested
in any of these other coaching jobs. Obviously, the Ravens
job is a great job because that's where you go
in and you have to win right now. You're expected
to win right now. The Steelers, I know they don't
like saying rebuilding, but they're not reloading. It certainly feels
(10:43):
like a rebuild, and I would think anything would be
on the table, and that is you're going to TJ Watt,
Jalen Ramsey.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Well, they just got DK met Calf.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
They were aggressive, and you know, I thought at the
beginning of the year that this would be the last
year for Tomlin, in the last year for Aaron Rodgers.
It may not be the last year for Rodgers playing,
but it's the last year for him in Pittsburgh. The
question is does somebody want to sign him? And even
ownership yesterday said that Aaron Rodgers that was Mike Tomlin's
(11:17):
decision to bring him in. So that sounds like whoever
is coming in, we're moving on from Aaron Rodgers, and
they need to because you can't stay in that nine
and eight area maybe ten and seven. I mean, it's
nice to be there, but you're just kind of you're
in it, but you're not. It's like you're in the pool,
(11:37):
but you're not in the deep end. You're not threatening,
and that can be no man's lamb. Hey we got
the playoffs. How'd you do all? We lost in the
first round. Again, it's can we get bad enough to
get better than just we got into the playoffs? Now
we're threatening and that'll be the key for the Steelers
moving forward. And I wonder, yes they've gone defense as
(12:00):
their head coaches with Chuck Noll, Bill Kauer, Mike Tomlin,
do they evolve into today's NFL because Mike Tomlin's nineteen
years ago, the league has changed. You got to have
an offensive mind there Now maybe you get a great
offensive coordinator, but if your head coach is offensive leaning,
(12:22):
that's sort of the trend that's going on now. And
the question is, and from what I was told, the
Steelers were monitoring what was going on in Green Bay
with Matt laflor. If Matt Lafleor was let go, or
they're not going to keep him in the building, give
him a contract extension. The Steelers thought that they would
be in the mix with Matt Lafloor. Ravens may have
(12:45):
thought the same thing as well. So these coaches are
We're in positions where people would covet those jobs, and
then you pack up two guys who are Hall of
famers and they now you have coaching vacancies, especially with Baltimore.
But that one's tricky because you've got to walk in.
You got to embrace Lamar Jackson. You got to figure
(13:07):
that out. And you've got a roster that's ready to
win in a division that is suspect right now. Any
other pole questions they are seating. Yeah, yeah, we got
a couple more questions here. I'll give you early results.
I would rather be a starter at Nebraska or a
backup at Oregon. Seventy five percent would rather start at Nebraska.
(13:28):
Let's go in Nebraska. Yes, of course you would deal
with disrespect. Yes, yes, I'm dealing with that crap.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
We also put up one here from paul Is John
Harbaugh in a better football situation now than he was
a month ago.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
Yes or no?
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Are your options there. I'll save my answer until after
the break. Anything else you got.
Speaker 7 (13:49):
Those are the two were going on right now?
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Okay, fair enough. I got an incredible stat of a
player who will not be playing in a playoff game
this week because he's injured. An incredible, incredible stat. I'll
have that for you coming up. All right, take a break,

College football transfer portal closes tomorrow. NCAA announced that the
transfer portal for college basketball will start after the.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
National title game.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
These are just obvious things, just common sense, And granted
they have to do it in piecemeal, like just little things.
There's no complete makeover with college athletics, and I don't
want it to be. I want him to kind of go, Okay,
there's a fire over there, let's put that out.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
There's a fire over there.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Put that out. They can't solve everything at the same time.
But the transfer portal, you know, as Danny Hurley was
telling us during the tournament, he now you're navigating the
transfer portal who's coming in and who's leaving from your team,
and you're in the postseason. Didn't anybody think that that
might be kind of conflicting, you know, even with when
(15:52):
coaches can leave and the transfer portal with college football
and the playoffs, Can we do sixteen teams? Know we're
gonna do twenty four. No, we're not gonna do twenty four.
Let's do twelve, all right, Like once again, you're just
trying to get little victories here. That's what you want,
common sense. After the national title game, then you can
(16:16):
go in the transfer portom How about you can only
transfer once without penalty. How about that. I love the
fact that you have players who can go. I'm not
going to play here, I can go and transfer and
play there right away. Keep in mind, you used to
have to sit out a year, and if you transferred
within your conference you had to sit out two years.
(16:40):
Now you have too much freedom with it. In my opinion,
Nil pay them whatever you want to pay them. You
know you have a value, and you know it's an
open marketplace. But as far as transferring, there's a quarterback
who I think is going to be on his sixth
team in six years. You shouldn't have that, Like, you
(17:05):
have to have some kind of regulations, rules in place,
common sense in place of doing you know all of this.
So they're going to change the transfer portal. Maybe they
figure out how you can keep a coach in the
playoffs before the transfer portal. And I'll go back and
say what I've said many times on this show. You're transferring,
(17:27):
You're all over the place. I haven't heard one player
be academically ineligible through all of this, So I don't
even know if you're going to school. I don't know
if it matters anymore. And if it doesn't, then great,
Just tell us that's all right. I mean, whatever your
rules are. I thought college was for college, but.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Maybe it's not. Yes, Marvin, the.
Speaker 8 (17:49):
Quarterback you just mentioned, the six teams doesn't bother me.
The six years bothers me. It a job.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
His job is to be a college quarterback. Here towed
you out an incredible stat that has to do with
the playoffs this weekend, George Kittle is out towards Achilles.
When brock Perty targets George Kittle this season, regular season,
in playoffs, rock Perty completes over eighty percent of his passes.
(18:16):
He averages nine over nine yards per attempt. He has
five touchdowns and zero interceptions. His passer rating is one
thirty eight. When brock Perty targets everyone else, he completes
just under seventy percent of his passes. The average yards
per attemp is seven point eight. He threw seventeen touchdowns
(18:39):
twelve interceptions, passer rating of ninety five. Stat of the
Day brought to you by Pennini America Trading Cards of
(19:01):
the program.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
So it's a big loss.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
I think when we think of the Niners, you think
of Christian McCaffrey, and you probably think of Rock Perty,
but George Kittle has been a constant and to not
have that kind of outlet security blanket obviously is a
huge loss going into Seattle. All right, we'll get phone
calls coming up. The interesting situation yesterday with Dante Moore
(19:24):
going back to Oregon. Dylan Ryola was at Nebraska, highly
coveted quarterback going to Nebraska. So now he's gonna maybe
red shirt at Oregon, maybe he plays two years. I
don't know if he did anything at Nebraska to really
distinguish himself that Oh my gosh, look at that now,
Dante Moore. I got to see a couple of full
(19:46):
games this year and he did show promise. But you know,
you kind of had that choppy career at UCLA. You
go to Oregon, and that Oregon offense can make a
lot of people look a lot better than maybe what
they really are. I want to see what he does
now when defenses get a year a season of tape
on him, and now what does he do against that competition?
(20:09):
He needs more starts and maybe turns out to be
the number one pick next year, although he's going to
be in a class with Arch Manning as well. But
I thought it was a very smart decision. Do not
take the quick money and go to the Jets, Because
if you go to the Jets and you're a young kid,
not even twenty one, and you're thrown into that mess
(20:31):
and it is a mess, then I wonder what, just
like Sam Darnold, you know, these quarterbacks who go there
all of a sudden and look, Zach Wilson should never
have been taken where he was taken. He played one
good season and all of a sudden everybody fell in
love with his pro day.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
I need to have more than that.
Speaker 8 (20:51):
Yes, Marv, the Jets still might have the number two
pick going into next year's drafting twenty.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Seven, so he still might go to the Jets. It
might be the number one pick in the draft. Yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
It's so wild though, that Dante Moore ten years ago
would have to go. He wouldn't considered staying. Let's say
Dante more hypothetically is making four million dollars next year.
That's life changing money. He's set for life either way,
and he could wait and find a better situation and
not an option ten years ago.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Yeah, I think it's an important part when you look
at the role that Nil is playing these guys, they're
going to make money, and rightfully so, they're going to
make money. And you might have players who want to
stay longer. Like you had Shambles who wanted to play
another year at Old Miss. He still is fighting to
play another year in college, and he might be the
(21:39):
second quarterback taken in this draft.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
I mean, it's a good thing that nil has allowed
people like players like Dantemore to stay rather than push
them to the NFL too soon, right, Yeah, Yeah, I
mean that's kind of what you don't want, underdeveloped players
jumping too early.
Speaker 7 (21:59):
And plus I know he's expected.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
To be the number two overall pick, but the bottom
could fall out of that at any time between now
and the draft. We see that happen all the time.
Gino Smith was supposed to go number one overall and
that did not work out leading up to draft.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Night, Like you're going he could go number one.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Yeah, he might go number one, and then all of
a sudden, he's not even gonna go in the first round.
Will Levice once again, it's dangerous when we have an
opinion about somebody before the guys who do their job
to analyze these players come in. You know, we get
(22:38):
it in our mind and it's like, oh my god,
that guy is gonna go top five. Remember when Dion
joined us in New Orleans, he started talking about Shador
and you know, hey, there's teams I don't want him
to go to. And you know, we're thinking, is he
going to be a top five pick overall? And then
all of a sudden he was not going to be
a top five top five round maybe, But we fall
(23:02):
in love, or we're told to fall in love. And
there's certain people we have on the show, or Loopsky,
Chris Simms, right, I trust them. Chris Simms is really
good at that. What do you see? What do you
not see? I remember or Lobsky telling me about Will Levis.
He said, I don't like his arm motion, like little
(23:23):
things that we don't see. By the way, we got
to be careful when we, uh, you know, speak up
about our football knowledge. This happened at a press conference
with the Denver Broncos where Sean Payton was well talking
to a reporter.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Green Law back of this game as ability to attack
down hill in the run games, howdy is that at
the timing of it?
Speaker 9 (23:45):
Do you want him to attack downhill? Is that You're like,
what do you know about attacking downhill in the run game?
You don't know? All right, that's right, have him attacking downhill.
It's good to have a healthy Drey green Law back
in the game.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Okay, Sean could have handled it a little bit better
than that. But when we have knowledge, or we think
we have knowledge, and then we recite that knowledge to
somebody who is in a you know, an elite fraternity. Hey,
you know Drake Greenlaw running downhill? Now would I phrase
(24:19):
it that way?
Speaker 9 (24:19):
No?
Speaker 3 (24:19):
I would not.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
I would not. I still don't know what running downhill means.
But uh, coach, are you planning to take the top
off of the defense this weekend?
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Oh? What do you know about taking the top off
of the defense?
Speaker 5 (24:36):
I don't know. Yeah, Paul, I purposely didn't listen to
that cut until you just played it. My first thought
was I first thought the reporter used the phrase attack
downhill incorrectly, because it's usually running backs run downhill. I
just googled it. It is a defensive phrase that's been
used for the past couple of years. It's relatively new.
Attack downhill. Linebacker is a middle linebacker that goes in
(24:57):
to make stops. That is clearly a football guy saying
you can't use football guy terminology. We can use football.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Guys, absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
I'll go back to what happened to me at the
NBA Finals with the New York Knicks and pat Riley.
I asked, oh god, that was That was an embarrassing
situation as I had information and I had information to
ask pat Riley a question. Jack Ramsey, one of the
great basketball minds of all time, worked with me on
(25:28):
Sports Center. I said, Jack, give me a question for
Riley that he will answer. Give me a basketball question.
So he gave me a detailed basketball question. I remember,
it's it's quiet, there's a scrum around pat Riley, it's
an off day in the NBA Finals, And I said, coach,
and then I recited the question.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
He didn't answer me.
Speaker 5 (25:52):
The silence.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
He didn't answer me. Next yeah, next question, he just
looked around. He looked around.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
The next thing I knew, and I was kind of established,
you know, covering the NBA Finals here, and the next
thing I knew.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
I went over to Jack Ramsey and Jack said, what
did he say, Dan?
Speaker 2 (26:17):
I said, he didn't say anything. He didn't say anything.
I go, no, he didn't say anything. Next thing I know,
Nick's PR comes over and says, you guys have to leave,
that we couldn't be on the floor. I was hoping
Jack would be able to watch practice, and I said
to the PR person he said, hey, hey, look Jack
(26:38):
can stay. I'll go in the back and get ready
to do our sports center hit. He goes, no, coach
doesn't want anybody in here. He got your answer, I did, yes.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
What did he say? What did he say?
Speaker 6 (26:50):
Dan?
Speaker 2 (26:51):
I go, he didn't say anything. He didn't say anything.
I go no, because I was trying to give him
some basket all questions there. Bill Parcells would do that
to you. Oh was it painful? Now? I never asked
Parcells a question because he couldn't wait to tell you what.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
You didn't know. We'll get a couple of phone calls.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Oh, by the way, so would you phrase the question
they're seating with John Harbaugh?
Speaker 9 (27:24):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (27:24):
Yeah, the pole question?
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Is John Harbaugh Barball in a better football situation now
than he was a month ago?
Speaker 5 (27:32):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Or no? So football situation?
Speaker 7 (27:35):
A better football situation.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
I'm gonna say yes, Yes, I am. He's not beholden
to one player now, it's a great player. But now
he's got a quarterback on a rookie deal, running back
rookie deal, wide receiver on a rookie deal. Now you're
coming in. Now make us relevant. So he's got a
two year kind of grace period, honeymoon period, and maybe,
(28:00):
you know, if the Eagles start to slip a little
bit more, maybe Washington isn't as good, Dallas will be Dallas.
You got the fifth pick in the draft. Maybe you
got a chance to kind of show people what you
can do. Because I think the success of the Ravens
felt like it was attached to Lamar Jackson. The failure
(28:21):
of the Ravens was attached to John Harbaugh. Now with
the Giants, you know, he's probably gonna have total autonomy
here and he's going to be able to pick his
staff and maybe not have it solely based on I'm
relying on one player, and if that guy plays well,
we're going to be in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
If he doesn't, then we're not. Yes, if I could be.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Mistaken, but the team John Harbaugh just joined was eliminated
from the playoff. From playoff contention November twenty, third week twelve,
the exact same roster that he currently has right now.
First team knocked out of playoff contention.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Yeah, but Malik Neighbors got hurt, Scataboo got hurt as well,
Jackson Dart was banged up as well, which all.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
Could happen again next year. True, hopefully not, but likely
they're going to have injuries again next year.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
Yeah, but not season ending injury that you would think,
unless they maybe they changed the turf in met life.
But yeah, I think it's a great situation for him.
You know, sometimes who you work for, you know, it
becomes It's just just like ESPN. Those four letters are
(29:36):
so powerful when I was there, you want to kind
of differentiate yourself from that. See if you can do
it on your own. You're with a great organization in
the Ravens, always in playoff contention, super Bowl MVP. Now
you go to the Giants, you know, a one storied franchise.
Now you breathe some life into it. They they wanted you,
(29:56):
They really wanted you. There was no doubt they were
not going to you take another job. And I think
with John Harball that's probably a welcome relief of they
do want me.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Now I go in and.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
He just feels like he's a New York Giants head coach.
He looks like he'll be a New York Giant head coach.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Yeah, Paul, And.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Doesn't it feel like the New York Giants even the
media may give him a little room to breathe. In
the past nine years, they've made one playoff and had
one winning season. That season was nine wins. They squeaked
into the playoffs, Otherwise they would have one playoff appearance
in the past fourteen years.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Tom in North Carolina, Hi, Tom, what's on your mind? Hey?
Speaker 10 (30:39):
DP?
Speaker 11 (30:40):
Yeah, peggyback on what you guys are talking about with
John Harball. I'm a Giants fan. I'm not so optimistic
about what you guys are saying because you got your
defensive coordinator leaving the Ravens and possibly taking Sam Donald
to the Super Bowl, and John Harball can't take Derrick
Henry and Lamar Jackson deep in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Hey, you know, give Mike McDonald credit. He did a
wonderful job there in Seattle. He has and I've said
before about John Harball. I like John. I don't know
if he's putting my team over the top. I don't
know if Mike Toman is going to put my team
over the top because you didn't do it with your teams.
I don't think he's a savior. There are very very
(31:25):
few of those guys where you go, man, turn it
over to that guy. I sounded like Gruden a little bit.
Speaker 8 (31:31):
Man.
Speaker 5 (31:33):
That guy could just coach.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
He's not a savior either, yes, Todd, So what should.
Speaker 12 (31:37):
Reasonable expectations be if you're a Giants fan and John
Harball is coming, what would be considered in the next three, four,
five years? That was our guy. I'm so glad we
grabbed him.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
How about over under seven wins next season?
Speaker 10 (31:48):
Oh?
Speaker 12 (31:49):
That's it?
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Yeah, okay? Anybody that a huge upgrade?
Speaker 8 (31:53):
That feels like, wow, you really turned this around all right?
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Over under seven? Who's going over?
Speaker 2 (32:01):
Well, then you got to go to eight because you
can't go to seven and a half time.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
You know that is true. So if I said six
and a half.
Speaker 12 (32:09):
I think I'll get them over six and a half wins. Okay,
So I'm talking about bigger picture, like does he got
to go No, you have the super Bowl in three four?
Speaker 2 (32:14):
This is what this is all incremental. You got to
build it like going to Super Bowl four h Harbor
four years and they got to play the NFC West
next year, So you're gonna go against the Rams in
Seattle and the Niners next year and Arizona.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
See, the Giants have had like six or seven head
coaches in the last ten years, So if he can
actually make it to year three, that's a massive win
for the franchise that they actually catch.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
So that'll be the biggest win.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
If he could stay, if he could last three and
a half seasons in New York, that would you're.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Under three and a half. It's a five year deal.
Three and a half years for John Harbaugh with the Giants.
Anybody going under.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
Is a legacy name. You can't fire a legacy name. Yes, Paulie,
ask you Carroll about that?
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Oh? Ouch too soon? Yes, Tom, I'm gonna go.
Speaker 12 (33:07):
John Farball, He's gonna get at least four years as
the Giants head coach.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
John forbach t shirt is it four? Is it four ball?
Or if I'm gonna go how are you spelling fall.
Speaker 5 (33:20):
F oh u h R far I think it's close enough.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
How about we take a break. Phone calls coming up.
We'll give you our play of the day right after this.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Shoot this out. Chandler looking throws it way up into
front porch. Burno catches shoot the.
Speaker 14 (34:00):
Wind it get mine the young fella, oh Man, what
a great pass and tacks.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
And traffic Malachai Moreno Gibbs Kentucky the win. They trailed
by eighteen in the second half as they beat LSU.
That's your play of the day. Play of the Day
brought to you by Dude Wipes extra large flushable. Dude
Wipes Wetter is better available at Amazon and major retailers nationwide.
(34:34):
Dude Wipes best clean hands down. I mentioned that there
was a quarterback who is on his sixth school. Paul,
he just gave me an update. He is now going
to his seventh school.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
Now not since we started the show to go, we
were just checking our numbers. Is this Gentleman's name is TJ. Finley.
He was a recruit back in like twenty eighteen nineteen,
and he started at LSU, then to Auburn, then to
Texas State Tulane, Western Kentucky Georgia State and now incarnate
(35:09):
word just to recap LSU Auburn, Texas State, tu Lane
in the Western Kentucky Georgia State and carnit.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Word and it's supposed to be in reverse order there right,
carnate word and then you end up at LSU.
Speaker 5 (35:21):
We should make tour shirts like like a band. He's
six seven, by the.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
Way, great, he's too tall to be a good quarterback.
Speaker 5 (35:28):
He's six trying to get to six schools.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Seventh schools damn six six seven six.
Speaker 5 (35:35):
He received two extra years of eligibility due to playing
his freshman season twenty twenty with the COVID year, and
then he had a red shirt year. I don't know
where the seventh year comes from. It's like Riggins on
that show Friday Night Lights. He was in high school
for six years. I could never figure it out.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
Christian Syracuse, Hi, Chris, what's on your mind? Hey?
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Thanks?
Speaker 9 (35:55):
Dan?
Speaker 5 (35:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (35:56):
A couple of things on the coaching parasel.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (35:58):
If John Harbaught is the Giants next head coach, good higher.
Finally they get a proven coach, not a Pat Shermer,
Joe Judge, Brian Dable, they're kind of back to a
time Coughlin and also during the season and since it
ended for the Packers, they keep saying they're going to
get an extension done with their current head coach, Matt Lafleur,
but still nothing. And I wonder if the Packers are
(36:18):
going to be the new ninth team looking for a
head coach. And unfortunately, as a Viking fan, I think
my Vikes are going to be looking for a new
defensive coordinator because I think Brian Flores is going to
land one of the open head coaching jobs, and maybe
with the usually defensive minded Steelers. But it's long overdue
for Flores, who's been somewhat blackballed by the NFL after
(36:40):
how things went down in Miami. Yeah, he's earned and
deserves another shot, and Whetherson, Pittsburgh or someplace else, I
think he'll do well.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Yeah, and I think he's in his mid forties.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
There I thought, you know, I saw his name attached
to the Raiders, but I don't have any information on that.
Shawn and Tulsa, Hi, Sean, what's on your mind? Good morning, Dan?
Second time, long time. There was a lot of talk,
a lot of chatter.
Speaker 10 (37:05):
A couple of months ago regarding Bill Belichick and just
wondering what your thoughts on him getting back into the league.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
With all these coach o getting town.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
No, no, no, I think that ship sailed. It Just
too much baggage that comes with that. You know, I
thought he was getting the Atlanta job, and you know,
I think Arthur Blank held his front office accountable for Okay,
you don't want me to hire Bill Belichick? All right,
(37:31):
you guys better be right, and they weren't. But you
know he's seventy four and does age factor in? Yeah
at some point, I mean, and it's not personal with Belichick,
but you're bringing in his girlfriend. It hasn't gone well
at North Carolina. It didn't go well towards the tail
end in New England. You know, somebody who worked there
(37:55):
said Bill just felt seemed distracted. He wasn't Belichick if
he's sixty six years of age. Yeah, you know, but
I would have hired him in Atlanta. Who I said that.
I would have hired him. But you know, not now,
too much too much going on, Yes you can, you.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
Know how like with John Harball right now they're saying, well,
they're just like working out the details of the contract.
But it's basically I wonder if the details for Bill Belichick.
What he's saying there is like, now we got the
money taken care of, We've got all of my control,
We've got all of these things.
Speaker 7 (38:26):
Now my girlfriend, what can we do for her?
Speaker 3 (38:30):
What role? Yes?
Speaker 7 (38:32):
What role can we have for my girlfriend?
Speaker 3 (38:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (38:36):
She doesn't look good in these colors? Can we change
the colors of the colour rush?
Speaker 7 (38:41):
She prefers a she looks great and greened more of
a muted Matt.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
She loves green. Gary and san Antonio, Hi, Gary, what's
on your mind?
Speaker 9 (38:52):
Hey?
Speaker 15 (38:52):
Dan called san Antonio five eight one seventy five. I
had a awful a thing I'm thinking about. I watched
the Golden Globes the other night, and I was thinking about.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
When people win Golden Globes.
Speaker 10 (39:06):
Or Emmy's or the Oscars or whatnot, how it changes
an actor's life.
Speaker 11 (39:13):
My question is, what would a sports s emmy do
for eque of the dan ET's, you know.
Speaker 10 (39:20):
Would it change their trajectory, change their endeavors they're gonna
dive into after the show is lows?
Speaker 2 (39:27):
Uh No, it's not changing anybody. Although I'll let them
answer sports Emmy didn't change my life. I mean, I
appreciated being you know, awarded, rewarded, but it didn't change anything.
Speaker 8 (39:41):
Yes, Marvin, when people win Oscars, you don't become a
movie star after you win the Oscar. A lot of
people are already movie stars when they win the Oscar.
Or you're Francis McDermott, where you're a great actress, but
you're not on the poster of an upcoming blockbuster.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
Film seton I don't know that it would change my life,
but for me personally, I take a lot of pride
in being one of the people that built this show
from the attic all the way up to winning a
Sports Emmy.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
That's what it means to me.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
We sat there putting together chairs, we were bending off
cats like it was not like we stepped into a
multimillion dollar studio. You know, we pieced it together like legos.
And that is I That to me, is why I
want it so much.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
Yes, Hud, I would have to.
Speaker 12 (40:23):
Be referred to at least for a couple of weeks
or months as Emmy Award winning Todd Fritz and then
eventually I get over it. I probably walk the streets
with my trophy for a little while and then put
it away.
Speaker 5 (40:34):
Paul, it'd be a very cool night. I think more
so that we've been nominated a bunch of times made
me feel really good. Not a one nomination, but like
five or six.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
I think, yeah, I feel better that we've been nominated
for six years.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
I think.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
I don't feel as bad that we lose. I'd feel
worse if we didn't get nominated. One hour in the books.
We're not going to win a Sports Emmy though, so
not likely.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
No, no, probably, I'll larry bird hand and they are
guarantee it.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
You're guaranteeing we want to sports again.
Speaker 5 (41:07):
It could be after we're off the air.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
No, no, no, I don't want one of those silly things.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
But that counts as a win.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
No, nope, I'm not counting that.
Speaker 5 (41:15):
We're not getting that.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
You are, Yeah, I am dan, We'll get it. And
then yes, yes, and that's it our one on this Thursday.
