Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I hope you had a great weekend. Gangs all here
ready to go, a lot of puzzling moments last week.
We move on every day. It's the super Bowl, right, Marv,
Unless you're the Bills, Yes, but if you get to
the super Bowl, you want to win, right, That's what
we established last week.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
But dB, I had time to maul over this.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Oh you did. Do you want to clarify this?
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Yes, I would rather get to the super Bowl than
losing the second round, unless you are this iteration of
the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
You said they have to just get there.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
They're not in a position to just get there, just
like the Lions in the Ravens and if.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
You're the Charger, gets there. No, the Buffalo Bills need
to take the next step. Now that might not mean
winning a super Bowl, but they have to move past,
you know, at least the AFC Title game. They're all in.
Some other teams, and I said this last week, I'm
surprised more teams don't follow the La Rams blueprint win
(01:07):
be all in. Now we saw the Ravens, they're all in.
They just traded for Max Crosby, you've seen it. Buffalo
got their wide receivers. So you start to see some
of these teams realize this window, like the Bengals window
did it close already? I mean wasn't opened very long,
and that's what you have to realize. Detroit did their
(01:27):
window close? San Francisco did their window close. It's quick,
but we'll talk about the Max Crosby trade. Not surprised
maybe that they got two first round picks for him,
and good for the Raiders. Hopefully they're able to use
those picks to fortify an offensive line for Fernando Mendoza.
(01:48):
All right, good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, that's
our streaming partner. It's a Monday, so best and worst
of the weekend. Once you saw that you liked you
didn't like, Operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls,
play the day poll question, stat of the Day, which
is brought to you by Panini America, the official trading
cards of the program. All of that forthcoming first hour
brought to you by ty Iraq. They've been helping you
(02:10):
find the right tires for how and what and where
you drive. They ship them fast and free back by
free road hazard protection, convenient installation options like mobile tire
installation tiraq dot com, the way tire buying should be.
We'll talk some college sports coming up. Also, we'll talk
to the ESPN NFL front office insider Mike Tannenbaum and
(02:32):
Reggie Miller will stop buy as well. NCAA bids Queen's College,
which is in Charlotte, North Carolina. Raise your hand if
you knew about the Queen's Royals in Charlotte, North Carolina.
I'm right there with you. I didn't unlike Queen's College
in Queens, New York. You know it's in Charlotte, North Carolina.
(02:58):
High Point in North cal Carolina. Got in Northern Iowa,
l i U Tennessee state. Yes, we're punching tickets to
the big dances. They like to say.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Yes, Paul, I had no idea about this school. Queen's
University dan in Charlotte, and they're the Royals, the Royals,
the fighting Royals.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah, how about that. So it's not Queen's College, it's
Queen's University, right.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
I thought Queen's College is in Queens, the borough of
New York. This is Queen's University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Yes, Todd and LU the primary campus I have Long
Island University happens to be in Brooklyn.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
They're secondary campus is the one that's actually on Long Island.
So helped me out with that.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Wasn't it years ago that Charlie Sheen picked LU to
win it all? Aren't they? Are they the blackbirds of
Long Island University? Todd?
Speaker 3 (03:53):
They are the LU Brooklyn Blackbirds. Okay, that is right,
all right. I had a check for a second, and
we want to give it a wrong information.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
No, your mascots here, all right, so we'll get to
your phone calls. Yes, Marvin, I just was told by
the back. I was just told by the back they're
the Sharks. Wait, the l IU Sharks now, yes, I
believe so, okay, I thought two years ago they just
changed it. Oh okay, so they didn't want to be
(04:21):
called the Blackbirds. Now they're the Sharks Long Island Sharks.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Football, Max Crosby figured that you had to trade him.
You aren't going to win now. I think the fallout
from not letting him play those last two games last
season wasn't going to leave Max Crosby and they had
to move on from him, and vice versa. They get
two first round picks. The Ravens aren't normally in the
(04:49):
top fifteen, and you got to go back to the
Ronnie Stanley draft pick. I think that was twenty sixteen
when they had a pick in the first fifteen. Well
raided it and you get Max Crosby, and Max Crosby
certainly sounds like he's a happy guy.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
I'm so excited. I love all of y'all, all my supporters,
everyone tuning in. Football is my world, man, It's my passion.
Since I was a child, I knew exactly what I
wanted to do with my life, and that's to be
the best football player in the world and help win
a Super Bowl with whatever organization I'm with. So that
never changes. It's greater nation for life. But right now
(05:28):
it's flog nation and I'm all in. I'm gonna give
you all everything I have in my heart and soul, man,
and it's going to be an incredible journey and we
got work to do, man. But I love you guys.
I appreciate you, every single fan. Everyone tuning in. The love,
you know, the hate, the love, all that is welcome.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
Man.
Speaker 6 (05:44):
It's understandable, but it's time for this next chapter.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah, So Max Crosby goes to the Ravens. The Ravens
are the favorites to win the AFC. Prior to getting
Max Crosby, they were at plus five hundred. Now they're
plus four fifty, followed by the Bills, the Chiefs, and
the Chargers. In the NFC, the Rams they're the favorites,
followed by the Seahawks, the Eagles, and the Packers. And
(06:09):
you start to look at players who have been traded
for two first round picks. Now this is recently, so
Max Crosby to be determined how this plays out. Sauce Gardner,
he was traded for two first round picks, missed the playoffs,
Micah Parsons with Green Bay, Russell Wilson that didn't end well,
Deshaun Watson that didn't end well. Matthew Stafford won a
(06:31):
Super Bowl, Jamal Adams that didn't end well. Jalen Ramsey
won a Super Bowl, Khalil Mack played well, but the
team never really improved, and Laramie Tunsel limited playoffs success
for the Texans. Those are the players' recent players who
have been traded for multiple first round picks. Also, you
start to think about this. The Seahawks spent the fourth
(06:55):
most money in free agency last year and they won
the Super Bowl. It's spent the most in free agency.
They went to the Super Bowl. The Bears spent the
ninth most in free agency. They went from five to
twelve to eleven and six. I would tell any of
these teams, any of these general managers that would listen,
(07:15):
you have the opportunity, and we said this, We say
this all the time. They'll be back next year. There
is no guarantee. We know that. I don't care how
good your quarterback is or your roster. You know, Joe Burrow,
he's a great quarterback. They got two great receivers, but
they don't have a great team. They may never get
(07:36):
back to a super Bowl in the Joe Burrow era.
If I'm New England, if I'm Buffalo, I'm the Ravens,
I'm the Rams, I'm all in. What's it going to take?
Because I want something that I know is proof of
you know concept there. I want to somebody has to
sample size. I can go. I'm going to take that
defensive back from the Chiefs and we're going to be
(07:59):
ready to roll that's what you want. You know, the
Ravens traded for somebody they know is already great. Buffalo
picked up DJ Moore, they already know his track record.
You got an opportunity, you know, Seattle, I wouldn't do this. Well,
we won a Super Bowl. I'd go right back in. Now,
you might be losing your running back, You're gonna lose
a couple of players, but you got to fortify that team.
(08:21):
You got the opportunity go all in Yeston.
Speaker 8 (08:24):
Do you think that this is an anomaly or more
of a trend that sort of teams moving in the
direction of valuing a proven commodity over the potential of
the draft.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Well, I think teams GMS love potential. It's like, oh,
that guy, but I like to know that that guy
that I'm looking at, he's already been an All Pro
Pro Bowl player. He's proven that he can play, not
the oh the potential. That guys get fired for potential.
It's rare when you get fired when you get somebody
(08:58):
who's like Max Crow is really good. Now there might
be a defensive lineman in the draft and you go, boy,
that he's got the potential. They always have the potential
to be somebody that's already playing in the NFL normally,
like he could be the next Miles Garrett, he could
be the next We'll go out and get that guy.
And that's what the Ravens did getting Max Crosby. You know,
(09:20):
the Cowboys were in on this too. I'm not sure
what their final offer was, but I think at first
it was a couple of first round picks and a player.
Turns out it's a couple of players, you know, like
AJ Brown. Patriots reportedly offered I think a first and
a second, and they wanted a player as well, and
(09:41):
I thought AJ Brown would probably be dealt before Max
Crosby would be. But there's always today or the rest
of this week with free agency. The Dolphins just announced
that they will release to a tongue of Iiloa. And
I think he can sit and watch football just like
us this season and make almost fifty million dollars and
(10:02):
he doesn't even have to get off his couch.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
Yes, Paul, Yeah, I'm looking at the contract for Tua
and I think if he does not play football whatsoever
this year, he would make fifty six million, three hundred
thousand dollars guaranteed. I don't see any way around it.
For the Dolphins, Okay, yeahs for him, Good for him.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Feels like there's going to be a landing spot. It's
probably going to be once Kyler goes, and then you'll
have maybe dominoes here.
Speaker 7 (10:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
You know, there's a chance Geno Smith ends up back
with the Jets. Hasn't he suffered enough? Dolphins? I would
just say, we got Quinn Eewers, We'll get another quarterback,
and let's ride this this year out. Let's just write
this season off as a loss, and uh, maybe you
get a quarterback in the draft next year. All right,
(10:53):
eight seven seven to three, DP Show Email address Dpatdanpatrick
dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. We're saying wanting
to our radio affiliates. iHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio. I was
watching the Spurs yesterday and I've said this. I said
this early in the season, Hey, maybe they're a year
ahead of schedule. Now the more I keep watching, they're
(11:15):
kind of like the Patriots, where you go, yeah, Patriots,
they're year ahead of schedule. We kept saying that for
most of the regular season, and then what happened. The
Patriots go to the Super Bowl. Maybe the Spurs aren't
a year ahead of schedule. Maybe they're right on schedule.
And what you saw yesterday, it's just rare to see
(11:36):
somebody who is that tall, be that athletic handle touch
shooting form is great both ends of the floor. And
they put up a number on the Houston Rockets in
San Antonio. I don't think they're a year ahead of schedule.
It feels like they're right on schedule. And the Celtics
(11:57):
with Jason Tatum easing him back into the line, maybe
not exactly easing, they put him in and you know,
playing twenty seven minutes and uh, look good over the weekend,
look good against the MAVs. I think the Celtics are
the team to beat. Watching the Lakers yesterday with the Knicks,
and it wasn't great basketball, but you know you're watching
(12:20):
two heavyweights of sorts kind of slug it out a
little bit there, and Luca takes some wild shots. Man,
he makes some wild shots too, between him and LaMelo Ball.
I mean, those guys take wild shots wild and it's
pretty I mean these are deep, deep shots falling out
(12:42):
of bounds, you know, threes. Yes, Marvin, those guys take
horse shots. You're supposed to shoot that horse. Oh, I
thought I heard something else. I thought you horse said
horse shots horse like the game horse.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yes, yes, in the game horse, right, okay.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
And he makes him sometimes like oh what a shot,
and then when he misses it, oh what a stupid show.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Why would you keep doing that?
Speaker 2 (13:09):
But when you see Wemby break you down in transition
or fast break, he beats you off the dribble and
you're going, oh, my goodness. And that form for anybody,
beautiful shooting form. And he's twenty two years of age.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Yeah, Paul, I would love to know the defensive scouting
report on Webb Yama, Like what do you want him
to do? Because it doesn't appear he has a weakness
or like a regular move that he only goes to.
I can't imagine what the scouting report is.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Well, if you go back to his rookie season and
I said, you're doing an injustent. This is like not
getting a good offensive line for a quarterback. They didn't
have a point guard who would put him in position
to succeed. Now he knows he's got spots. All these
great players, any great scorer has a spot or spots.
(13:57):
Don't let him get you there. If he gets you there,
he's going to dominate. You know, Jordan would get you
on the low block, and then you know, lights out
certain guys. If I get you there on the wing,
I'm gonna beat you off the dribble. And you see
that now with Wemby, and I think Stefan Cassel and
Aaron Fox have done a wonderful job looking for him
(14:19):
or waiting for him to get to a spot because
he kind of floated in the paint and then he
never really was comfortable there and he'd get it and
he seemed a little flummixed. Man. He got a basketball IQ, yes, Marv.
And then when you see the Spurs play, they have
great spacing. They shot fifty percent from three point range yesterday.
(14:41):
Those guys were wide open because they know where to
go when Wendy gets the ball in his spot, like
you said, and Dylan Harper's contributing as well, but I
mean he should be if you're the second pick in
the draft. But you know, they got some depth there.
And but you got to watch him because they they
have some players that you're probably not that familiar with,
(15:02):
but Wemby can't take my eyes off of him. Yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
He's even a good free throw shooter. He shoots eighty
three percent from the free throw line. You think there'd
be a weakness where oh, well, hack the guy and
he shoots seventy two percent.
Speaker 9 (15:14):
He doesn't have that.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
I know, got beautiful for him.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Yes, Mark, is there any way he can win the
MVP this year or is it just too far gone
with Joker?
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Well, if these other players don't qualify, I don't think
Jokers winning it. I still think he's the best player
in the game. But if you're looking for value of
what Wemby has done, I mean I got a look
at Jalen Brown too. I mean, let's be honest, I
thought this was a lost year for the Celtics and
Jalen Brown, you know, has them in the number two
(15:44):
seed and they're just getting Tatum back. But if you
have it by default, and that's not really fair to
these players, but it might be by default that you know,
these guys don't qualify, then Wemby might be able to
do it. You know, you got twenty games. We'll talk
to Reggie Miller about that. You'll join us in a
little dip all right, phone calls, Best and worst of
the weekend and we'll settle on a poll question as well.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
We will get to your phone calls best and worst
of the weekend EH seven to seven three DP show
come up with the poll question as well. Chiefs, Browns, Raiders, Jets, Cowboys,
all with two first round picks will be there in
Pittsburgh for the draft and with the Raiders on the
clock with that first pick and whatever they're able to
(17:46):
do with all the money. They got more money than
anybody else in free agency this year. This is where
you build that foundation and could provide some dividends. Here
you get Linemen here, Brady probably more involved in this.
But if you're able to get some of those guys
up front, which is where you win Super Bowls. You know,
(18:07):
the difference between Seattle and New England was upfront. Seattle
won that they were better upfront than the Patriots were.
All right, so seet let's pull question here for the
first down over the program. Well, we got one here
from Paul Dude. More questionable signing Cardinals and Kyler or
Dolphins in Tua. I would say, I mean Kyler had
(18:35):
some like three or four really respectable, if not good seasons.
And the Dolphins teased us a couple of years ago
because we thought Man with that offense, defense was decent.
You got fast guys, you got a play calling quarter coach,
You're ready to go. Tua is going to stay healthy,
(18:57):
and then all of a sudden it went south in
a hurry. And if I'm the Dolphins, I just basically
write this off as we're gonna be. We're gonna be.
We're gonna be in the lottery for the number one
pick in the draft. Don't spend any money on a quarterback,
and if you do, you bring in somebody who is reasonable. Now,
they might go out and get Malik Willis, but they
(19:20):
would I would not do that, as much as I
like Malik Willis. If I'm the Dolphins, you need help,
and maybe you look at next year. You want to
get that quarterback on that five year contract, Maybe you
get your starter. I'd have Quinn Ewers in there. I'd
bring in somebody as the backup, and then maybe you
get you know, maybe you find out a couple of things.
(19:40):
Maybe that's important.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
Yeah, Paul, the two assigning a couple of years ago
is kind of interesting because remember in twenty twenty two,
he had the three concussions in that season. He had
a nice season, but there I found tons of articles
that said, you can't sign to it, you can't extend him.
So they didn't extend him after that twenty twenty two season.
They let him play his fourth seat. Forty five hundred yards,
(20:02):
seventy percent passer, thirty touchdowns, one of the best quarterbacks
in the AFC, And then they had to make the
decision stick or go at that point, and they stuck.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Yeah, I understand it, but I said at the time,
I wasn't going to do that. I would not do that.
Kyler Murray said the same thing. I would not do
that just because I didn't trust him. You know, his
was more of effort with tuas, more of just the health.
But it's hard not to sign him when he puts
(20:33):
up those numbers. But now you've got a guy making
fifty million dollars, you're paying fifty million dollars to but
he's not going to play more than likely.
Speaker 7 (20:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (20:43):
See, it does seem interesting that teams are more following
like the Denver Broncos model of how to handle contracts
post Russell Wilson.
Speaker 9 (20:54):
You know, let's just eat this for a year or two.
Speaker 7 (20:56):
Have it.
Speaker 8 (20:57):
It's gonna suck, but man, are we going to be
better off? On the On the other side of it,
it seems to be less. You know, you're not as
hamstrung by owed money. It's like, forget it, let's just
we're going to pay it anyway.
Speaker 9 (21:09):
We might as well just move on.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Yeah, and I.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Think what Denver did. But Denver was helped by the
trade or Seattle was helped by that trade with Russell Wilson.
So they were very smart to go, we're not going
to pay this guy. And Denver was like, Hey, all
we're missing is a franchise quarterback. And then you realize
that he's the reason why you're not going to be winning,
(21:32):
and you're right, write it off. Made a mistake, you know.
And I thought the Browns were going to do the
same thing with Deshaun Watson. I talked to somebody yesterday
said they're really encouraged by Deshaun Watson his progress. I'm like, yeah,
I think he was a healthy scratch last year. Put
(21:53):
him out there. You're paying him forty five million dollars
and you've already taken the pr hit because you brought
in this guy. But I wonder if they're going to
extend Deshaun Watson's contract, which would be crazy to think about,
but they might in that while all right, uh yeah, Paul, all.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
Right, if you're the head coach, the new head coach
Jeff Halfley of the Dolphins, I wonder what your expectations
are for this season and what your team wants you
to do this season?
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Do they want you to win ball games?
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (22:28):
You're right, because he's going in and he wants to
set the world on fire. It's like, I'm a head coach.
I want to win and then hey, this is who
you got to win with. And I mean, I wonder
do you keep Jalen Waddle as valuable as he is.
(22:48):
I probably would trade him as well. Take it down
to the foundation, down to the studs, and then you know,
just decide to take it down to the studs. Yes,
And is it realistic you're going to catch the Patriots
and Bills anytime soon?
Speaker 3 (23:03):
At least in the very near future.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
You forget about the jet but you've got two teams
that are dominant teams in the AFC in your division.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
There, Yeah, take the year off, you technically have to
play the games.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
You do have to Yeah, I do have to play
the games.
Speaker 7 (23:16):
Yes, but.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Let's see christ and Syracuse leads us off on this Monday.
Good morning, Chris, what's on your mind?
Speaker 7 (23:23):
Hey?
Speaker 11 (23:23):
Thanks Dan?
Speaker 12 (23:24):
I got the best and worst in a comment and
my comment, I don't like the idea of the US
government making executive awarders when it comes to college sports
or any sports. I have faith the NCAA and the
conferences will work things out. And my worst Lebron James
who missed the lakers last two games.
Speaker 11 (23:39):
He had nagging.
Speaker 12 (23:40):
Injuries all year and the Lakers are nine and two
this year, when the duo of Luca and Austin Reeves
play together and Lebron's out and Lebron at forty one
missing games because of sciatica and arthritis, to quote our
friend Buddha, not good. And my best to the NBA
Saturday night, have who I think is no doubt the
(24:01):
face of your league for years to come. Care so much,
gets so emotional, actually brought to tears over a regular
season win. Wenby is a unicorn in so many ways,
and also Wemby and his Spurs, in so many ways
are the antithesis of Tim Duncan and his Spurs. The
NBA has to love that.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Thank you, Chris. Yeah, he got emotional. They came back.
They were down whatever twenty five to the Clippers, and
people are like, he came back and beat the Clippers.
He's twenty two years of age, he's playing hard, and
he got caught up in These are the kind of
wins that are more than just one victory, where collectively
(24:45):
you do something and I think that's probably what he saw.
I mean, it's his team. He's twenty two, it's his team.
Cooper Flag is nineteen, it's his team. This is mind
bending for me when you think about these are guys
going against own men and they've only been in the league. Well,
Cooper Flag his first year wemby a couple of years,
(25:06):
and now you're leading a team. I mean, I thought,
what Magic did his rookie year for the Lakers, winning
a championship coming out of college. But he was more
seasoned than these guys. Yes, PAULI, he said.
Speaker 5 (25:24):
The Miami Dolphins said, get it down to the studs.
They are trading Minka Fitzpatrick, the defensive back, to the
New York Jets in exchange for a twenty twenty six
seventh round draft pick seventh round the Jets. This is
from Adam Schefter will sign Menka Fitzpatrick to a three year,
forty million deal year deal.
Speaker 9 (25:44):
Okay wow.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
President Trump said that he will write an executive order
within a week that will solve all the problems brought
forth in an unprecedented meeting at the White House. He's
looking at the future of college sports. Well more on
this coming up top of the hour, but he was
hosting these sabing college sports roundtable. I know it sounds
(26:08):
like there's a possibility here, but an executive order can't
make a law. It can't provide antitrust exemptions or override
state laws, or any policies in the executive order can
be challenged in court. So you know, you bring all
these people together, former coaches, former players, you got people
(26:29):
from networks, you got athletic directors. Here's what jumped out
at me. First of all, I don't think this is
going to do anything. Second of all, why don't you
have a current coach or coaches and current player or players.
Those are the voices that I would want to hear from,
not guys who aren't coaching anymore. Nick Saban, he can
(26:52):
be the voice of college football, but I'd like to
have a coach. Put Lane Kiffin in there, put Trinidad
Chambliss in, let them talk about what it's like to
be a current player. And just because you know, all
of these presidents and chancellors, you know, made the mistake
on their watch of allowing this to happen. I can't
(27:14):
go back and put the toothpaste in the tube. Can't
do it. You can try, good luck, It's not gonna work.
And nothing's gonna work this quickly. But Ross Dellinger, who
was covering the event on Friday at the White House,
the college football reporter for Yahoo, will join us at
the top of the hour. Gust In la Hi, Gus,
(27:35):
Welcome back.
Speaker 7 (27:37):
Good morning, mister Patrick. Go if you're and the boys
had a great weekend, Beth and worth of the weekend. Man.
You know, I don't think we talk about marathons much
on this show, but this morning we're going to American
Nathan Mortin won the Los Angeles Marathon yesterday by zero
point zero one second, closest race, closest finish in the
(28:00):
history of the race, the worst of the weekend. Is
Michael Kamu losing the Los Angeles Marathon by zero point
zero one after leading the entire race. He actually made
a bit of a blunder. He followed the camera bike,
the motorcycle with the camera on, and he followed it
as the bike went out of the course and he
(28:23):
had to go back and return to the course, which
allowed American Nathan Morton to close the gap in record time.
You boys have a great week, Thank you, Gus. I
didn't see the story.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
I wasn't aware of it, but imagine you're running over
twenty six miles and you lose by less than a second, yes, Pauling.
Speaker 5 (28:45):
Yeah, the guy who won the American Nathan Martin. He
was losing by thirty maybe thirty yards with two hundred
meters thirty yards to go meters, I guess. And it
was a literal photo finish at the end he hit
the tape just before him.
Speaker 7 (29:00):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Buddha in San Francisco, Good morning, Buddha, what's on your mind?
Speaker 11 (29:05):
What up? DP?
Speaker 13 (29:07):
Happy Monday boys? Shout out to the b rg's baby Dan.
You're looking good in the main Cave today and I
got a real quick five minute post question for you
guys are the Jets in? Are they the Washington Wizards
of football? Best of the week, Best of the weekend.
And watching all the the World Baseball Classic action this weekend,
(29:29):
it was like really entertaining and fun to watch. And
I mean just watching show. Hey Otani, he's just he's
just doing work for Japan.
Speaker 7 (29:37):
Man.
Speaker 13 (29:37):
This should be a great showdown as all the teams
come down and the final championship works his way to
fruition musty TV man and Worst of the Weekend. And
watching the Lakers win this weekend without Lebronic, you know,
against the Knicks and and it's just like a legiti
force of a team, right, I mean it just speaks
volumes as to where we're at as a Lakers team.
(30:00):
I mean, Austin Reeves is really the one bright spot
we have. And Luca, I mean he's just like a
petulant child. He needs to see a therapist. And Lebron,
I mean, as Todd's Valley Girl would say, yeah, oh
you just needn't retire.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Thank you Buddha. Yeah, the World Baseball Classic, there's there's
energy showing up. I was watching Puerto Rico and Panama
and all of a sudden, Puerto Rico walks it off,
and you know, I mean it was playoff baseball. I
go back to the Four Nations tournament. The intensity rivaled
(30:37):
playoff hockey, Olympic basketball. We saw that, you know, we
saw that with the Olympics with hockey. I mean Terrek Skoubaal,
the cy young winner with the Tigers, was going to
pitch one time for Team USA. I think he got
caught up in it. Now he's kind of petitioned the
Tigers too. Can I get one more start here? I
(30:58):
love it. You know, when players present cities, they compete
for standings, but when you represent your country, it's something
completely different. The steaks are larger, the moments are louder,
and suddenly exhibition baseball feels like the World Series. And
it's been fun to watch. But when you get those crowds,
(31:21):
the home crowds, instead of maybe a sterile crowd that
you know the two countries aren't from that city, you know,
then you don't get the ambiance. But man, when you
watch Otani, I was watching Korea against Australia, and granted
these aren't the best rosters, but you are seeing the
(31:43):
atmosphere of what it means to them. Let's see Jim
in Colorado. Hi, Jim, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 11 (31:53):
Hey, I got a question for you, and I know
I'm pretty hyped on this for a Monday. I had
called up your your show five years ago, and I
love your show. You guys are great. I want to
say that right off the back. But I had called
up there about five years ago and told you that
it was a mistake draft in Tua and a lefty quarterback.
(32:14):
Now there it is again, out fifty million dollars, nothing
to show for it. And that's my example of why
I'm giving you guys a call. These gms they need
to go back and watch Draft the movie, because I
guarantee you they're not drafting the right players that should
(32:35):
be for their organization, for their system. And look at
all these quarterbacks that are getting paid all this money,
except Sam Darnold that Minnesota who was a complete idiot
organization that gave up him, and then now he went
to Seattle and won a Super Bowl. My point is,
(32:55):
I'm right, Tua was a bust. He was a bust
from the beginning and out all this money and I
just want to hear your take on it. About some
of these players that they draft to give all this
money to, especially quarterbacks, and they don't prove it. Like
Mahomes who just took thirty million dollars as a cut
(33:15):
to try to help his team get other play.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Well, okay, he shifted money. He didn't take a cut.
He shifted money to It wasn't a bust. He's somewhere
in between.
Speaker 7 (33:27):
Now.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
You know, he's kicking cans down the road making fifty
million dollars, not doing anything. But he didn't resign himself
and he did put up some you know, he had
a couple of seasons where he you know, he played
pretty well. The Dolphins were all in on Joe Burrow.
They were willing to give I think four or five
first round picks and didn't happen. Yes, you know, to
(33:53):
a not a big arm. But you know, he played
at a big university. He played at a football power. Now,
does Alabama tend to inflate their quarterbacks? Yeah, I think
we've seen that down through history. But Miami got him.
You thought they had something. You had Tua, you had Tyreek,
and you had Waddle and that's what you need in
(34:15):
today's NFL. You know, the concussions. Thankfully, they haven't really
come back. But I don't know if anybody's going to
pick him up to be a starter. But yeah, he's
somewhere in between a bust because he did put up
a couple of really good seasons, yes, paul Yeah.
Speaker 5 (34:32):
Tua as a starter in six years was forty four
and thirty two. His average season, he was thirty nine
hundred yards twenty six touchdowns. Those are nice numbers for
a career. It's just you have to dive into the
different areas of his career in different points.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
All Right, we'll take a break. More phone calls coming up.
More on the conference at the White House that took
place on Friday. Also the front office moves, Mike Tannenbamba
the Mothership will join us, and more of your phone calls.

Speaker 5 (36:23):
This just in, also from Adam Schefter, The Packers are
finalizing a deal to send defensive lineman Rashaan Gary to
the Cowboys in exchange for a late twenty twenty twenty
seven twenty twenty seven draft.
Speaker 9 (36:38):
Pick, not twenty six twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Okay, that's nice. They like the Packer defensive lineman and
come round of applause from Seaton. Okay, all right, Dallas
get in there. So they were trying for Max Crosby,
but I don't know what the offer was. And Gary's
been a nice player, although I mean, such a big guy.
(37:00):
What's his number eight? Like that doesn't it's always weird.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Was Gary fifty two?
Speaker 5 (37:08):
Was Kenneth Murray?
Speaker 7 (37:09):
Eight?
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Know your Packers? Yeah, Marvin, I think Jared Verse is
a single digit guy. I think he works number eight six. Yeah,
oh he wears eight, I believe so. Yes, I thought
Gary wore eight for the Packers.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
I got him at fifty two.
Speaker 6 (37:28):
Eight?
Speaker 5 (37:28):
Was I think the linebacker Kenneth Murray or someone like
that Walker?
Speaker 8 (37:35):
If you played, if you guys played, would you get
a normal number like to your position or would you
go like completely out of bounds?
Speaker 5 (37:41):
You could do an hour on this.
Speaker 9 (37:42):
Yeah. Sorry, I didn't mean to blow up the whole
the whole week of shows.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Really, that's a great topic. Oh my god. Okay, so
what position am I playing?
Speaker 9 (37:55):
What would you What would.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
You like to be?
Speaker 9 (37:57):
You'd be a defensive end if you want.
Speaker 14 (37:58):
Defensive end, I want to be quarterback or so okay,
you're gonna be the quarterback the Yeah, okay, it'd be
like eighty eight as a quarterback.
Speaker 9 (38:09):
Something weird.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
No, because they have rules of what numbers you can have.
I don't think they do anymore. Oh they don't know.
Speaker 9 (38:17):
That's like, yeah, that's kind of the whole point of
the question.
Speaker 7 (38:19):
Is.
Speaker 8 (38:19):
They don't have those rules anymore, so you can be
a linebacker and wear seven or something.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Like Doug Flutie was twenty two in college. John Hadel
was number twenty one. I was also played in the NFL.
Heath Shuler.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Was he twenty in college? Twenty two? I think so
was he?
Speaker 2 (38:37):
And then he was was he five in the NFL? Yeah?
Or was he just a fifth pick in the NFL?
Speaker 5 (38:43):
Bernie Cosar Miami number twenty.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Yeah, Yeah, that was awesome. I think I'd be like
number eleven if I'm an edge rusher be It just
makes you look a little fast.
Speaker 9 (38:58):
Yes, eleven is a good ball.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
It's sleek and slimming. Yeah, certain numbers, but then we
equate that to offensive lineman like his number sixty three.
We can't be fast, but eleven.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Yes, Marvin, there's there was nothing better when I was
a kid. LaVar Arrington or Penn State number eleven. He's
the linebacker. Yeah beautiful, Yeah, yes, don don't you want to.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
Be that imposing seventy five or seventy seven like that's
usually for me or ninety nine, those are those big guys.
Ninety five, Yeah, but that's old school. You're you're you're
thinking back to mean Joe Green.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
I would still want to.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
I just I think there's something imposing about a number,
like in the mid seventies or ninety nine. Who was
Carl Mecklenberg number seventy seven?
Speaker 3 (39:40):
He was and Rulan Jones was seventy five.
Speaker 7 (39:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
See, that's that's we're tapping into your Bronco days. I'm
talking about now where you could be number nine. When
Jadavian Clowney Wasn't he number nine?
Speaker 7 (39:57):
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (39:58):
I believe he was number seven? That's South Carolina?
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Yeah maybe yeah, yeah, Or like Marvin Austin at North
Carolina he was like six five, three and nine.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
It's just the you know, the jersey gets stretched so much.
It's one number.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
Yeah pull my favorite one about eight nine years ago,
there was this really good nose tackle defensive lineman Lewis
Knicks for Notre Dame and he was huge. He was
like six three three forty number one, so good.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
He took one.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Uh Sid in Baltimore, Good morning, Sid, how's morale?
Speaker 15 (40:37):
Hi?
Speaker 7 (40:37):
Dan?
Speaker 15 (40:38):
I'm calling in because number one, I'm off of school
because of parent teacher conferences. So that's one of the
best days.
Speaker 11 (40:43):
Of the year.
Speaker 15 (40:45):
But I'm calling to ask you what the expectations are
after the Ravens landing Max Crosby. I have a sports
podcast called Not What I Meant, and I personally think
that it's Super Bowl or bust. But I also think
that that's the expectation every year, So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Yeah, it should be, it should be. How about you
win a playoff game? How about Lamar plays well? But yeah,
if you're giving up a couple of first round draft
picks and you're bringing Max Crosby in, yes, you're looking
at Buffalo, You're looking at the Chiefs probably again. You
know the Chargers, these teams in the AFC, they're going
(41:24):
to be all in. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (41:25):
By the way, not what I meant.
Speaker 8 (41:27):
The podcast hosted by Liam and Sid not just it.
It's not a solo podcast. Two middle schoolers from Baltimore.
Sid and Liam are bringing you the angles of sports
that will make you reconsider your views.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Yeah, but Sid took the title, though he took credit,
he did the creator. He is listed as the creator
of Sid's Rundown Recap, which is a sports newsletter as well. Yeah,
I'd like to give a shout out to Liam All right,
all right, we'll talk to some college sports and more
NFL news coming up, Regg Miller in the final hour
of the program back after this
