yours truly, Come on in, stay a while, got a
pull question, Play of the day, stat of the day
or two big game James Worthy Hall of Famer. We'll

(00:27):
seven three DP show. That's the number. If you'd like
to contribute to the show. Operator Tyler's sitting by. Stat
of the Day is always brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards the Dan Patrick Show. Still have
a chance to get in on the contest to win
a rectech grill our ect eq dot.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Com search the Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
We're giving away a rectech grill coming up on Friday,
Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock or the NBC
Sports Network or our radio affiliates around the country, over
four hundred affiliates carrying this award nominated program. All right,
watching Last Night with the Spurs over the Timberwolves. Spurs

(01:06):
were favored by ten and a half and they end
up winning it comfortably. One twenty six ninety seven. Wemby
got off to a great start. He ended up with
twenty seven and seventeen. This is a chance for you
to watch the rest of the Spurs lineup. This isn't
necessarily about Wemby. For me, it's about Dylan Harper. I mean,

(01:27):
they have a variety of players, Stefan Castle, Darren Fox,
Daron Fox had a couple of breakout seasons with Sacramento
and now he's kind of settled into a veteran guard
for that team. But you watch and you go, okay,
and they're trying to build their roster. I think similarly
to the Oklahoma City Thunder have depth. Now you have

(01:50):
to have a star or two, but you have to
have depth. And that's where you're seeing.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
See, the difference with them is they're going to go
nine or ten deep and contribute, and normally in the playoffs,
your rotation will shrink to around seven players, maybe eight players.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
See, they can have Sga sit down and not lose anything.
Wemby will sit down. The Spurs don't lose anything. But
you're seeing a team that is in the embryonic stages
of being a title contender for years to come and
that's the promising part of this. Now you go back
and you remember when David Robinson got hurt that allowed

(02:27):
the Spurs to get in position to take Tim Duncan.
They won like fifteen games when David was out with
the bad back.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Then you have Wemby.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
If Wemby doesn't have the blood clot last year, they're
not in position to get Dylan Harper the second pick. Overall,
They've been very fortunate with lotteries and drafting the right guy,
and Dylan Harper has had a breakout postseason here and
that's the number two pick overall. I mean, they just

(02:59):
missed out on Cooper Flag, so he's only twenty years
of age. Castle I think is twenty one. Wenby's twenty two.
This is what you want. Now, you're building something right
before everybody's eyes. You know, with Okac you didn't really
notice necessarily because you probably weren't watching them, whereas Wemby,

(03:19):
you're watching just because you haven't seen somebody be like that,
and you kind of look at that team and you go, oh, yeah,
they got one guy I know who's pretty good or
he's really good. Then you start to see the totality
of the lineup, the team and depth. And that's what
really impresses me because in today's NBA it feels like
you need two stars and then you need your depth

(03:42):
and having those guys under contract, that's really really key
moving forward. All righty, poll question for the first hour
of the program, Dylan, do the honors please. By the way,
this first hour brought to you by z Kleiner. I
start my morning every single day with the z Cliner
rest stop. It's engineered with RESTful sleep in mine ideal

(04:03):
bet alternative, a healthy life starts with a healthy night sleep.
Visit zkliner dot com slash Dan Patrick today to find
z Kleiner at a store near you.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
All righty Dylan, all.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Right, Dan PAULI sent this one over the Superstar. I'd
most want to play with Luca, Shay Gildas, Alexander Nikola, Jokich,
Victor Wembanyama other Well.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
I would start with Joker because he will share the ball,
and then I would go with Wemby, who it doesn't
feel like I don't want a ball dominant guy like Luca.
I gotta have a guy who's going to share the ball,
and Wemby and Joker would share the ball. Wemby, by

(04:46):
the way underrated passer. Joker's maybe the best passer in
the game. So I would start with that, But I
Luca an Sga little too ball dominant for me. If
I gonna get my shit odds, I don't know if
I want to play with those guys.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yes, what if it's not about getting your shots, Well,
if you're fine not getting the ball.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
It's always about getting your shots always. I gotta have
my touches. You gotta have my touches.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
Yes, Paul, you want to have a teammate that's a
killer like Luca, who could close a game. But it's
got to be frustrating knowing that the offense runs through
him almost every time he's on the floor.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Well, it does go through Joker, but Joker passes the ball.
He's not going to be dribbling, you know, Luca's going
to be dribbling. I don't want to play with it,
even though he'll end up with you know, nine or
ten assists in his healthy years.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
But I don't. I don't want that.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Give me, give me two big guys who are willing
to share. So I would say I'd start with Joker,
and then I would go with Wemby.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yes, yes, Tod.

Speaker 6 (05:49):
What about Brunson.

Speaker 7 (05:50):
He's a killer, but he's usually like in the top ten,
top fifteen assistantly to so he's not looking at just chuck.

Speaker 6 (05:55):
He's ready to dish the ball out of someone's open. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
He's ball dominant too. I mean, great player, but he's
a little a little more ball dominant. Yes, yes, Marvin.

Speaker 6 (06:06):
Kate Cunningham, he's a guy that loves to share the
ball also.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah, yeah, I'll give you that one. Yeah, because he
was averaging like Tenant. He was leading the NBA an
assists before he got hurt. Yes, Dylan, I.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Think Kate Cunningham would also love to have someone to
share the ball. That's true.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
That might work out both ways. Yeah, I would beat
Tobias Harris. I'd be fine with that. I'd just stay
in the corner and just have my hands like that.
Just just wait. Yes, Paul, you.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
Know, you play with Wemby, you get beat on defense,
You're probably okay. The guy gets past you, you're probably
gonna be fine.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
It's a good point.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Wemby is making his presence felt when he's on you
as the main defender. You're not scoring he had. He
has almost as many blocks has made field goals with
the opposition when he's guarding them. I don't know if
we've had that kind of ratio before, but that's that's

(06:58):
pretty incredible with what he's doing. He went for twenty
seven to seventeen three blocks, and it feels like there's
more blocks than he ends up with because there's the
are you going to take that shot? Well, I was
thinking of it, but I'm not going to now. Yes, Pauline,
we had that.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
Stat a couple weeks ago. What was it, blocks discouraged
yet by Wenby. Yeah, we need another stat for him
rebounds while standing because he gets a lot of rebounds
with minimal effort. The ball just comes, he tips it
to himself and he passes outlet.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
It's fascinating. It's fascinating watching him.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Well, the other NBA stuff, Darryl Morey fired as NBA
GM in Philadelphia. Nineteen years as a GM, no titles,
no finals appearance, a conference final appearance, and he was
good at giving up a lot of assets to get
stars at all costs, and that's the problem. It cost

(07:50):
him his job. I mentioned this and I didn't have
any information on this. That maybe you could get Joe
Ellenbiid and you could send him some place like Sacramento.
And then I saw something yesterday where that Sibonas might
be available and Joel Embiid would go to Sacramento. I'm like, Okay,

(08:13):
I don't know if it's pennies on the dollar that
you're going to get Joel Embiid. Sibonis is a really
good player. He battled injuries, but you know he's going
to give you twenty and ten and probably six assists,
and he certainly well, I would hope healthier than Joe.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
I'm healthier than Joel Embiid. Yes, Marvin, Why.

Speaker 6 (08:34):
Would anyone want Joel Embiid.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I don't know unless you don't want Sabonis. And so
I don't know the backstory with Sibonis as to what
happened in Sacramento other than I know that he had
a lot of injuries.

Speaker 6 (08:48):
Yes, Martin Embiid, he won't even help with ticket sales
because you don't know whether or not he's going to play.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Well, that'll be the big teas. Hey come out and
see the big teas. That's yes, that's gonna stick.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, come out.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
He's the big Teas not sure I dated somebody named
the Big T's.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Oh yeah, Tez does it? Yeah? Uh yeah, Paul.

Speaker 5 (09:11):
If the Kings have a good player, they'll probably trade that.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
That's true historically, Yeah, that's true. But you're gonna hear
a lot of this. Uh Yannis, Where would Yannis go?
Could Yannis go to Golden State? Could Yannis go to
the Celtics? Felt like that's where he was headed a
couple of years ago. That could you trade Jannis for
Jalen Brown? Jalen Brown gets his own team. Be careful

(09:37):
what you ask for. But if if I'm Milwaukee, would
you do that? And the answer would be yes, If
I'm Boston, would I do that? They should still be playing.
They were up three to one. This isn't one of those,
okay see situations when you're up three to one on

(09:58):
Golden State and then you lose in and Kevin Durant
goes to Golden State. I wouldn't panic unless I thought
that these two didn't necessarily get along, and then you're
gonna bring in Giannis. Okay, but you're gonna hear a
lot of things. There might not be reports as much
as you're gonna hear what about like Kevin Durant, Well,

(10:21):
what about going to Golden State? Back to Golden State
because it feels like his days in Houston are done.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
Yes, Marvin, I'm always flabbergasted by this Boston Celtics trade
rumors with Tatum and Brown because it's been working. They've
gone to a finals, they've won a championship. Is it
just ego based? Almost like the Kobe and Shack situation?

Speaker 2 (10:41):
But I've never heard anything about that neither. So that's
why I wouldn't panic. If you're spending a lot of
money on them and you're gonna have them under contract,
it's hard to get two great players, and they are
and Jalen Brown was a MVP candidate this year in

(11:02):
what we thought was a gap year for this team.
That's why I wouldn't panic on this. Now, I might
look at moving some other pieces, Derek White maybe, but
then how much do you really need to do? Like,
when you're healthy, you're probably still the best team in
the East. Tatum didn't play in Game seven. That's why

(11:25):
I don't know. Look, I love to see movement. I
like to see change with you know, some of these
players get Giannis out of Milwaukee, put him on a team,
give him a different look, maybe gets a chance to
play for a title. If Jalen Brown wants to have
his own team, okay, here's your own team. Ask James

(11:48):
Harden how that worked when he left to go to Houston.
So you're gonna hear a lot of NBA stuff and
it feels like these are just let me throw it
against the wall and see. I had no information that
Sacramento would be interested in Joel Embi or that that's
a possibility, but I did mention that, okay, maybe something

(12:09):
like that, and then all of a sudden, it's like,
you know, I could see some bonus for joellenb I
don't know how the numbers match up. I don't play
the salary cap game because it has to do with math,
and Paully promised there'd be no math on this show.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
But any other poll question, Yes, Dylan, I was going
to say, was that part of the process.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Play fifty percent of your games and then get shipped
off the Sacramento.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
Yeah not great? Yeah, yeah, more.

Speaker 6 (12:37):
Joel embiid he's the only MVP to never play in
the conference finals.

Speaker 8 (12:42):
WHOA, that's not a stat that you want Staut of
the day.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
He brought you by a Panini America, the official trading
cards of the program. Here's another thing to keep an
eye out on with the Detroit series if you are
indeed watching this.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Jalen Duran during the regular season was great.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Almost twenty and ten average, nineteen and a half and
ten and a half rebounds. He has five single digit
scoring nights so far in eleven playoff games. Evan Mobley,
Jared Allen very good defenders. But if you want a
max contract, oh boy, when your backup Paul Reid is

(13:29):
out playing you, that doesn't bode well for Jalen Duran
to get a big time contract.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Here.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
All of a sudden, it's hey, I'm averaging twenty and
ten and we're in the playoffs and the number one seed,
I'm an All star. Everything's great, and then all of
a sudden, it's like, wait, what happened under the max
contract I was supposed to get. So keep an eye
on that if you're watching the game tonight.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
Yeah, Paul, I'm looking back at the seventy six ers
draft history. It's fascinating. Twenty thirteen, Michael Carter Williams of
Syracuse he looked like he was gonna be a thing
for a while. He couldn't shoot, no, but he looked
like one of those Rondo type players. Then they get
him Embiid starts slow, becomes great. Then with a third
pick in fifteen, they get Jalil okafor who everybody loved

(14:17):
coming out, didn't work out, Ben Simmons in sixteen, Markel
Foltz in seventeen. Oh man, it gets better because Tyrese
Maxi and now edgecumb Man. That's a tough run.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
And I remember after that draft.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Now I had a source involved in the situation and
he was saying, I hope that Philadelphia will take Markel
Fults because he said the best player in this draft
is Jason Tatum and I said it on the show.
So if I'm getting information like this, like what information
did Philly get where they go?

Speaker 3 (14:53):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (14:53):
We want to go up and we want to get
Mark kel Fultz who won nine games in his one
year in college. And even Lonzo Ball was a better
pick than markel Foltz. And you know, of course he's
had knee injuries here. But you're you're just thinking, are
you overthinking these things? Like how do you whiff. You know,

(15:15):
Ben Simmons started out played pretty well, and I thought, Okay,
he's just gonna be one of those guys who has
a lot of rebounds, a lot of assist and will
score fifteen to eighteen points again and be a good defender,
like okay, good, pick safe, pick oka four.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
All Right.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
That's one of those where you watch, you know, college
game and you go that guy is great, and then
all of a sudden you watch a pro game and
you go, that guy is not great.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Yeah, Paul, that.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
Draft is pretty fascinating because outside of the lottery bam Adebayo, Donovan, Mitchell,
Josh Hart, og Ananobi, Derek White, Laurie Markinen, a lot
of really nice players.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Well yeah, dang yes, Dylan.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
I felt so bad for Mark l Foltz when like
the whole things started there, because I was like, Philly
is not exactly the nicest situation to not pan out
in of other possibilities.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
I had never heard of the shooting yips.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
I'd never now Guys will get into routines at the
free throw line because it's it will paralyze you if
you've never shot an important free throw in front of
even one hundred people or a thousand people, and then
you put nineteen thousand, and then you have a playoff
game hanging in the balance and you're at their free
throw line. Everybody's yelling and screaming, and you're just standing there,

(16:34):
and then all of a sudden, you need movement, you
need noise, and all of a sudden you get paralyzed.

Speaker 5 (16:41):
Yeah, Paul, you said something the other day off air
that stuck with me about. I think it was Giannis.
He's really slow on his free throws, and he's actually
gotten worse as his career has gone along. How do
you practice those free throws and you take ten seconds
between shots?

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:54):
When I would see Sergio Garcia like double triple re grip, grip, regrip,
and I go, how do you go to the practice
range and practice that? How do you shoot free throws
where you struggle to shoot in ten seconds? That's where
you get a quick routine. It's I would bounce left

(17:16):
twice in boom up go, that's it never ever varied.
But if you get there, get into a quicker routine.
Let me take a break. We need to take a
break here. We'll settle on our poll question. Well, here
from Victor Wiben Yama Big Game. James Worthy will join
us on the future of the Lakers altho that After this.

Speaker 1 (17:39):

Do yourself a favor and listen to Straight Fire with
Jason McIntyre on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Adam Schefter just sent out a tweet. We have a
portion I think of the International Games. We already know
what the schedule is going to be. We know which
teams are playing which teams. We don't know when. And
you could you have three really tough games in a row,
how many games will be on the road. You know
those kind of things. Matchups start the year. But the

(18:44):
international that's what interests me because this is unique. You're
playing in Melbourne and that'll be the Rams and the Niners.
Then Rio de Janeiro the Cowboys will face the Ravens,
and then week four London will have the Colts and
the Commanders, and then it'll be Jags in London against

(19:09):
the Eagles, and then it will be the Jags against
the Texans in London. The weeks four through six, Week seven,
now apparently Schefty doesn't have all of the games. That's
why you know, I'm leaving out a week or two,
Steelers against the Saints in France, Week nine, Falcons Bengals

(19:32):
in Madrid, Week ten the Lions and the Patriots in Munich,
and then week eleven the Niners facing the Vikings in
Mexico City. So Schefty just sending those out. And you know,
the Melbourne one is interesting. Now you're getting two West
Coast teams to be able to go to Melbourne. But

(19:54):
if you're going to go from the Midwest or the
East Coast, get ready, get ready for at least twenty
hours flying. Having done that many years ago, I went
to Sydney and uh Hartford to Chicago, Chicago to La
La to Sydney. It was a long day. It was

(20:14):
a full day. And then coming back like you're I, I,
you know, trying to do the math and like, am
I gaining some time coming back? Am I losing more time?

Speaker 4 (20:25):
Yes, Dylan, on a flight that long, connect things actually
not the worst thing.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
You can get up and stretch your legs a little. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
Yeah, I had a question to propose to the room den,
based purely on food, which of the international locations would
you most want to go?

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Oh that's a Pauli question right now. Yeah, you're jealous
right in his wheelhouse.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I would probably say monjou como vat two three bis uh, Paris,
Paris for me, Uh, Madrid would be in interesting as well.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
I think I'm going to Madrid Munich beer gardens that
would be pretty good.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
Yes, Paul, I've been to brag London, Paris and Munich Munich.
If you like sausages, yeah, heavy sausage community as you
would expect. Did not love the food in Paris maybe
not my style, and London was better than I expected.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Okay, well you got it. There's a lot of cream
in Paris, but yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
They know how to make a sauce there.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
And yeah, yeah, I don't want that that community to
come down on me.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
I enjoyed Paris.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
The French community or the sauce community. The French, now, yeah,
they're they're ruthless. Yeah, I mean, I'm a big Victor
Winbinyama fan. Yes, yes, every country has something that's like
very touristy that you should go to. But maybe he's
touristy in Munich. There's a place I think Dan you
may have been there, at the Hofbra House. It's this
gigantic beer hall in the middle of Germany and the

(22:01):
waitresses carry the huge steins around. It's it's it's a
it's worth a trip.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
I have not been to Germany, but I've heard great
things about that Vienna.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
I'd like to go. There's a there's a few places there. Yes, yes, Jill,
I did.

Speaker 7 (22:17):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
I went to October fest Uh in Munich while I
was studying abroad, and it was probably it was one
of the best weekends of my life.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
It is a spectacle.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
I like Paul said, it's just beer and sausages at
all hours.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Of the day.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
But if you go to school abroad and you get
a rail ticket man. You can knock off a lot
of these places in a weekend. And uh, that's what's great.
You know, travel by rail when you're trained, when you're
in Europe, yes doing.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
Yeah, I did that.

Speaker 4 (22:47):
I failed all my classes, but I was there, But
I did I traveled a lot.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Did you fail your classes? Every single one? And my
dad's still mad? Wait, but you didn't flunk out of college?

Speaker 2 (22:58):
No, No, just that semester. I thought that they kind
of you know, it's like past failed.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
They were like three of the four.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Yeah, it was a I like most of us in
this room, I think it was an attendance issue a lot.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Oh oh yeah. God.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
I remember my senior year. I signed up for a
couple of eight a m rs. And I'm like, I'm
going to be so active and aggressive. I'm going to
be a great student. And I was working late night
at the campus radio station. I'd get done at one
in the morning, and all of a sudden, I'd do
the math and I got, it's not going to make
journalism class today.

Speaker 6 (23:35):
Yes, Mark, did you ever get the I hope you
apply yourself speech?

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (23:42):
Kind of.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
First of all, I had this unbelievable teacher I just
didn't let him teach me. Larry Lane, unbelievable teacher journalism,
and I just didn't go to class. And I remember
I had to talk to him because I needed a
D plug us to graduate. And I went and talked
to him needed I needed a D plus and he

(24:09):
gave me a gift. He said, I'm going to give
you a D plus but basically, I hope you learn
from this. And I never forgot it that, you know,
not applying yourself and somebody doing you, because I wouldn't
have graduated. And he said, I'm gonna give you a
D plus, and uh, I've thanked him subsequently many times.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
But he was a great teacher. And that's where.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
God, I just missed out on, you know, those opportunities
to have somebody who dedicated their life to teaching this
and my life was staying up drinking beer and sleeping
in and then going to play basketball. Not exactly the
career path that you want your children to take.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Yes, Dylan, Well, I.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
Feel like I've said this before, but like from a
strictly school aspect, you should go to college when you're
like forty, Like no one who's eighteen is like I mean,
I'm sure they're out there, but I was not exactly like.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
I cannot wait to just focus on my classes.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
But I had friends, and then I didn't want to
hang out with them because they were real serious about
going to class. And then I would feel bad because
I'd be like.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
All right, let's go play some hoops.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
And then you'd have My roommates were all really good students.
They're like, ah, you know, we got a mid term.
You know, I got a paper not going to be
and it'd be so then I would kind of do
the walk of shame down to the Dayton Field House
to play hoops against fellow guys who probably didn't care
about education.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
Yeah, Paul, you always have one of those guys in
your group or your fraternity house that's really studious. We
had this guy he graduated in three and a half years.
He became like a big time airline pilot, and we
always like, you're not going out, you're not going out,
and he was done in three and a half.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
Yeah, yeah, but who had fun.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
Yes, Yes, Dylan, I still feel like that anxiety of
like Wednesday morning, you're hungover walking across campus, missing the
class that you should be going to and seeing everyone
walking to class with their backpacks and stuff.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Oh my god, I'm the worst I know.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
And I went to one class. I think I had
great attendance only because there was this beautiful girl in there,
Like that was it like my motivation?

Speaker 3 (26:27):
Did you know?

Speaker 7 (26:30):
No?

Speaker 3 (26:31):
I didn't. I showed up in basketball warm ups I got.
I mean, what a mess to impress her?

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Or I just would get up and then brush my
teeth and then I would just put on warm ups
and go. And then I would get there and not good,
bad hair, acne, skinny. Didn't even have this voice back then.
That would have helped a little bit, Yes.

Speaker 6 (26:58):
Mart, Did Dylan say hungover on a Wednesday?

Speaker 5 (27:01):
Tough?

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (27:03):
Friday Friday would have been a different story because Thursday night,
Thursday thursdays. Yeah, all right, turn up.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
I made sure to never take a Friday class, so
I only had Monday through Thursday, and even that was
a bit of a stretch.

Speaker 6 (27:15):
Yes, Don, that's an interesting description of an academic walk
of shame. Usually that's using some other realm, but that's fascinating.

Speaker 10 (27:21):
They like to feel like a little embarrassed that I'm
going over to the basketball court.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
Well, when you're easily, uh, you know, manipulated, like someone
just has to go, hey, you want to get a beer,
and you're like, all right, only one, it's a Tuesday,
and then all of a sudden you're not in class.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
And then there'd be snow beers, like, oh, it's raining,
let's go get beers.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
Hey it's sunny, let's go get beers. Monday night, football's
go get beers. Hey, nothing's going on today, let's go
get beers. Yes, any excuse?

Speaker 5 (27:50):
Back at Southern Illinois. This guy the scientists predicted there's
gonna be this major earthquake. We had an earthquake party.
Everyone's doing this for throwing stuff around?

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Any excuse, Todd, you missed out on a lot of
fun living. You and your mommy?

Speaker 6 (28:03):
What a what a bummer?

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Yeah? Books, great grades. Then you're there with your mom.

Speaker 6 (28:10):
We're all in the same place.

Speaker 2 (28:11):
Yeah we are, look at us. Then we're all in
the same place.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
Ninety nine six? Does it really matter?

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Aaron in Virginia, Good morning, Aaron. What's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (28:22):
Hey, thanks for having me again. I've got a quick
comment and a request my comment. My favorite part of
the toddcast is kind of like how when Todd's on
the show when he's mid ramble and you go Christen
Sracys daughter Maria does the same thing. They just play
him out with the music while he's still just ran

(28:43):
like rambling and the show ends. And then my request
and we got to act quick because we only had
two days until your birthday. But somebody's got to reach
out to Pandora contain happy birthday for you. I don't
even know if anybody could make it through that.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
Thank you, Eric.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Maybe Tyler can reach out to Pandora and she could
give me a happy birthday, mister president her Marilyn Monroe
to my JFK. Let's see Curtis in Illinois.

Speaker 11 (29:14):
Hi Curtis, Hey morning, DP been a minute so I
just want to shut out Dylan from doing a great
job filling that chair. But have a poll question for
the day idea anyway, and ever since the partition came down,
the pole question should be which says more about the
partition being down that Todd isn't quite as gross as

(29:38):
Seton and McLevin made him out to be, or Dylan
is just as gross as Todd.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
Ooh, I would say two things could be correct in
that situation. Come on, I think so that is right.
You're a bit of a mess though, Dylan me, yeah,
you are.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
I feel like i've kind of I've grown a lot,
got my stuff together. You can usually tell.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
How clean somebody is by their car, the interior of
their car, even exterior of their car.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
It's your car a mess right now. It's not terrible,
It's been worse.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Okay, Yeah, yeah, I remember a girlfriend said, you know,
I can tell a lot about you by how messy
your car is.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
You're like, we'll get at them. Yeah, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
My sixty nine voltswagon that has no floorboard in the
back is a problem for you.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
You had the actual Flintstones movie I the back.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
If you sat in the back seat you had to
have your feet up because there there was no floorboard
there there.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
Yeah, sad, I don't know if that was that street legal.
Brandy in Portland, Hi, Brandy, good morning.

Speaker 12 (31:02):
I'm one time listener for some callers. I just wanted
to call. I'm sure you already have a play of
the day for today, but I took my daughter to
our first of the NBA game last night in Portland.
We have the Portland Fire brand new team. Saturday night
broke a record for the most attendant for a debut

(31:23):
game for an expansion team last night. Pleasure Beater, Baby
New York Liberty. It was intent. It was so much
fun and I just wanted you guys to take a
look at that buzzer Peter play. It was amazing and
just you know, s Portland gets a shout out. We
are showing up for women's sports.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
It's right, congratulations. You know, I saw the buzzer beater
put back there. Over the course of the series with Minnesota,
Victor wimbin Yama has more blocks twenty two than Timberwolves
have made field goals. When he is contesting their shot.
He has twenty two blocks. They have nineteen made field

(32:05):
goals when he is the primary defender.

Speaker 13 (32:09):
Start Up to Day, Startup to Day Stat of the Day,

Speaker 1 (32:51):
The play of the day.

Speaker 10 (32:54):
Shut the shout, I go find it, white Circle. We
threw it across crystals to take a time, I go
to Dorothy would have stover time.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Game six Thursday with the Golden Knights one went away
from advancing to the Western Conference Finals. Courtesy of Golden
Knights Radio Network. Play of the Day brought to you
by the great folks at McGuire's. They make car care
really easy. That's why the new McGuire's Quick Solutions kits
restore headlights, deep clean carpets, refreshed mats, care for leather

(33:34):
really fast. Grab your drill and a McGuire's Quick Solution kit. Today,
McGuire's celebrating one hundred and twenty five years of car passion.
Victor Wemberinyama knows that the blueprint, if you want to
call it that, in uh, you know, the immediate future
is going to be be physical with him. And he

(33:56):
knows that. And last night he they were trying to
rage bait him. Those are his words. Here is the
question and the answer from Victor Webbenyama on the timberwolf strategy.

Speaker 14 (34:11):
Victor, obviously, when they would grab you, hey, you whatever,
You've appeared frustrated in the past, but tonight it seemed
like it didn't phase you anymore. Like do you feel
like after maybe getting that release, the physicality doesn't phase
you in the same way anymore and you're more used
to it. Yeah, I feel like the rage baiting would
have been maybe one of the strategies.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
So I feel like New State composed as a team.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
It's a young person's expression there rage baiting, and he's right,
but this is what's going to happen. They did this
with leu Al sindor Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I remember Kent
Benson getting physical with him. There was another Chicago Bulls center,
Dave Corsine would be physical. You would just that was

(34:56):
the way that you were going to try to stop Kareem.
It happens big guys who have a slight build be
physical with them. I mean they tried to be physical
with Shack or Wilt Chamberlain. They were just just too dominant,
too strong. Stat of the Day brought to you by
Penady America, the official trading cards of the program. Red

(35:17):
in Georgia. Good morning Red, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 15 (35:21):
Good morning Dan? Good morning guys.

Speaker 6 (35:23):
Dan.

Speaker 15 (35:24):
I like to when you're talking about these players in
paying out in the NB that was a great college player.
I've been watching Boozer for a while this whole year,
and I think he's gonna have to make find the
right team where he can be a player that's a
Draymond Green type player. But as far as him being
that piece to be championship competitive, I don't think he

(35:47):
can be that, but he can be part of the
piece to make you be a competitive ball club because
he don't he can't create his own shot, but dribbling,
he can't make another player better. But if he don't
put into work and get a jump, I think he
can be good enough. But the player that everybody's thinking

(36:07):
he gonna be, I don't think Boo's is gonna be there.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
I'm with you with part of this.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
I watched him and there were times when I'm watching
Duke play and he wasn't a force like I almost
had to look for him. He does have, you know,
the family tree with his dad, his brother's still very
good staying at Duke. And I saw one report yesterday
where he might be the best player in the draft.

(36:37):
He's his dad wasn't an explosive player, but he played
a long time. And you're right about finding the right
place for someone like that. Is he a go to
get a bucket guy? Not in my opinion, But can
he be you know, the third option, fourth option? And
if you're gonna be taking that high, the expectation is,

(37:00):
you know, like, oh my god, you've got to come
in and be great. It's like Dylan Harper, it took
him a while to be great. I mean Ace Bailey.
You didn't hear anything about him really with Utah this year.
They were teammates at Rutgers. But a lot of times
we look at where you're drafted and we go, yeah,
you got to be transformational. You've got to be an

(37:21):
all time great, and it just doesn't work that way.
So much of your success in your career is who
is drafting you, When are they drafting you? And what
kind of talent do you have with you? Who is
your coach, who are the star players? What's the expectation level? Yes,
mar I think if this was nineteen ninety seven.

Speaker 6 (37:43):
Booser would probably be the number one pick because his
game is a back to the basket, old school game,
much like his dad is. But he can't face up
and create his own shot like maybe Advancer or someone
like that. So I think that's what holds him back.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
And a Cuff is to me like he's the fascinating
guy in this draft, Like can he be a Derek
Rose kind of player? I mean that that kind of player,
that impactful kind of player. I really enjoyed watching him
at Arkansas because he wasn't afraid.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
He was explosive, he was taking shots.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
He's coming after you, and that's what I want, Like,
I want that guy who just keeps coming. He's not satisfied,
and I'm not saying Boozer is that way. I agree
with Marvin. Can you create your shot? Because through high
school you're the biggest guy. In college, well, competition is good,
not great. Now you're going against guys who are your size,

(38:41):
but longer, reach, quicker than you, faster than you. Can
you get your shot off? This is what I worried
about with Cooper Flag. Could he could he get his
shot off off the dribble? Could he beat you off
the dribble. Was his three legitimate enough, and he worked
on all of those things and he was who they
thought he was.

Speaker 3 (39:01):
Yeah, Poland.

Speaker 5 (39:02):
But if you look at a guy like Cameron Boozer,
a duke, he's not a volume three point shooter, which
kind of hurts you these days going in the NBA.
But he shot thirty nine percent when he shot him.
And if you look at some of the stars in
the NBA right now, they're not three guys. Sga is
not a volume three shooter. Cooper Flagg is definitely not
a volume three shooter. They're beating you with twos and
it's kind of a new era. You could be a

(39:23):
two point shooter and make a mark for yourself these days.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Yeah, but there's a difference in a three point shot
in the NBA and in college. Three point shot in
college is not that challenging, just say, but you got
to be able to beat somebody off the dribble. Nate
in La, Hi, Nate, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (39:42):
Hey Dan, good morning.

Speaker 16 (39:43):
I've had a comment on Steve Sarkasian as a former
student athlete myself twenty years ago, I took some questionable
elective but I got my degree, so I just want
to know what his deal is against the basket weaving
course that Old Miss?

Speaker 3 (40:01):
Did you take basket weaving, Nate?

Speaker 16 (40:05):
They did not offer it at the time. I took
video games in philosophy?

Speaker 3 (40:11):
Wait?

Speaker 2 (40:11):
Was that one course? Video games in philosophy? That is corn?
All right, Well there's ballroom dancing. Did Matt Lioner take
ballroom dancing?

Speaker 3 (40:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Paul Old Miss is at Texas this year. If Old
Miss wins, the student section has to throw baskets on
the field.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
What happened to Old Miss yesterday? What did Old Miss
do that? Lane Kiffen has something to say about segregation
at Old Miss, and then Steve sarkeusey, the sec.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
Is like WWE.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
The games all don't always h pan out or play
up to the hype, but the hype leading up to
it Media day. These guys, it's WWE basket weave. A
shot from Steve. Steve wins something taking shots at old myths.

Speaker 3 (41:05):
There dang.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
One hour in the books, two more to go, big game,
James Worthy, Laker great will join us. We're back after
this for hour or two
