stun the Cavaliers. They're up two to oh as.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
The series now goes back to Indiana and the Warriors
with a banged up Steph Curry handled the Timberwolves in
Minnesota and STEP's injury probably is going to leave him
doubtful for Game two. We'll hear from Steve Kerr, the
Warriors head coach. Coming up Nick Celtic's Game two tonight.
Nuggets will be at the Thunder Game two eight seven
(00:36):
seven three d P. Show operator Tyler sitting by. He'll
take your phone calls, Say good morning, those watching on Peacock,
our streaming partner, and those listening on our radio affiliates
around the country. Over four hundred cities carrying this program.
Stat of the Day brought you by Panini America, as always,
the official trading cards of The Dan Patrick Show. And
(00:57):
make sure you go to Danpatrick dot com. Got a
special I'll offer for you something we've been working on. Well,
it's ten years since it was last available, and excited
about it at Danpatrick dot Com First Hour. This program
brought to you by Maco. Most cars on the road
could use a little TLC. That's what Maco does. They
bring your car back to life. Affordable paint jobs, light
(01:19):
collision repairs. Get a free estimate today. Uh oh, better
get Maco Play the day, poll question stat of the Day.
All of that forthcoming. Also some football news. The Pittsburgh
Steelers said goodbye to George Pickens, send him to the
Cowboys for draft picks, getting at least a third round
draft pick, and then I think there's some other paperwork
(01:40):
in there of swapping some picks as well. And let
me start there, because that just happened this morning. Still
finalizing this. Jerry Jones hinted at the Cowboys doing something
prior to the draft or during the draft that maybe
they were going to make some trades. I don't know
if this was his big move, but it gets George Dickens.
(02:01):
And one thing the Steelers do is they don't do
very well when they draft wide receivers. Now, they did
get Antonio Brown, four time All Pro. Chase Claypool had
star written all over him, but he didn't last I
think more than two years in Pittsburgh and Deontay Johnson
he had a thousand yard season. Now George Pickens his
(02:25):
second year in Pittsburgh had eleven hundred yards. But once
they get traded, you know, it's like what Bill Belichick
would do. He would trade you a year early than
a year late. Antonio Brown never had a one thousand
yard season after he left Pittsburgh. Chase Claypole went from
promising starr to never getting more than five hundred yards
after being traded to Chicago. Deontay Johnson three hundred and
(02:49):
seventy five yards last season after leaving Pittsburgh, now on
his fourth team since leaving Pittsburgh. So he went from
Pittsburgh to Carolina, to Baltimore to Houston. Now with Cleveland,
he signed a one year deal and a contract that's
not guaranteed. And now you have George Pickens, Pickens in
the last year of his contract, and you get a
(03:10):
guy who does like he he's a guy. If you
see the highlights, you go, cow Lee, that guy's good.
And then you watch the game and you go, God,
that guy's not good. You know, when you talk about
targets and I don't know what the average is for
wide receiver. But you know, when you look at a
catch percentage, it's probably in the seventies. I would guess
(03:30):
for wide receivers with Pickens, I think it's in the
mid to upper fifties. That's not good. If he's your
go to guy. You got DK Metcalf. Now there's there's
a lot of ways to look at this. So I'm
looking at this at the Cowboys. Okay, you get a
guy last year of his deal, wants to prove that
he can get that next contract. You got CD Lamb there.
(03:53):
You know Dak needs weapons there. Okay, all right, I
mean it's okay. But then I look at the pitch Steelers.
If I'm trying to get Aaron Rodgers to come to town, Okay,
I got DK Metcalf. Friar Muth is a good tight end, Okay,
I just got rid of Naji Harris. Okay. And if
(04:15):
I'm Aaron Rodgers, I'm looking at this, going who else
am I.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Going to throw to? Here?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Because I'm gonna guess defenses are going to focus on
DK Metcalf. But you didn't draft a wide receiver, So
does that make you lean towards their getting Aaron Rodgers
or not? Getting Aaron Rodgers. And if they're getting rid
of one of their better wide receivers, who else are
(04:41):
they getting rid of? Are the Steelers looking at surveying.
Let's just start with their division. Where do they stand? Well,
they're third. Okay, you've got TJ. Wat who's gonna won
forty million dollars a year. Are you going to pony
up for that? But do you have to pay Aaron
Rodgers if he comes to town? If you're Aaron Rodgers,
do you want to come to town? Cowboys, they got
(05:05):
to roll the dice.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Me.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
You're in a tough division and the Giants will be better.
The over under for the Cowboys is seven and a
half wins. That's surprising to me because I would have
thought maybe maybe at nine, nine and a half. But
you're in there with Washington now. I think Washington takes
a step back a little bit because they won I
think seven games in the last possession. You can't sustain that.
(05:31):
The Eagles, we know, will be really good and the
Giants will get better as well. But if you're if
you're Dallas, you got to do something. I would expect
that they do more than this. You's still got to
pay Micah Parsons. You know, Dak at his age and
injury prone. I don't like that situation. I thought that
they were going to make a splash and go after
(05:52):
Ashton Genty. I thought, okay, you know, Jerry's going to
go and get his next Emmett Smith. In fact, Genty
was described as EMMITTT. Smith with more speed. So the
Cowboys roll the dice, they make a move here and
Steelers get a third round draft pick, and it might
be additioned by subtraction if you look at what George
(06:13):
Pickens has meant to this team. But Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh's got
to do a whole lot better when it comes to
wide receivers and quarterbacks. But you know, these guys don't
get second contracts, none of them. But you make a move.
Are there other moves to be made for both of
(06:35):
these teams because they're both kind of where are we?
You know, Dallas might be third in their division, Pittsburgh
third in their division. But we'll check in with the
Steelers coming up a little bit later on. All right
back to last night, the Indiana Pacers did it again,
and there's a crazy stat that's going around and it
(06:55):
should be mentioned the Pacers, so they win the first
two games of the playoff series on the road. But
the I guess the amazing part of this, they outscored
Cleveland eight to nothing in the final fifty seconds to
win it. And since nineteen ninety eight, playoff teams have
won three games when trailing by seven points or less
(07:18):
in the final minute of a fourth quarter or overtime.
So three times playoff teams have won when trailing by
seven or more in the final minute of the fourth
quarter overtime. The Pacers own two of those three. So
how many games are we talking about where we've had
that that scenario? One thousand, six hundred and forty teams
(07:43):
are three and one thousand, six hundred and forty when
trailing by seven points or less in the final minute
of fourth quarter overtime, and the Pacers owned two of
those three wins both this postseason stat of the Day,
SAT of the day, best stat of the day, stead
of the day? Here comes that what stat of the day,
(08:09):
Steat of the day, brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of the program. You have to
find ways to lose, and Cleveland was banged up. Donovan
Mitchell gave you a great performance, but he was spent.
He was spent. I think he averaged around thirty one
minutes per game during the regular season because they have
a deep team and they were blowing people out. Now
(08:31):
you got to have him play almost forty minutes. I
think he played thirty six thirty seven minutes last night,
and he looked tired at the very end. Can't get
the ball in bounds. You know you don't fully block
out Tyrese Haliburton. Halliburton is going to miss the free
throw on purpose. You have one thing to do. Make
sure that you box out the shooter. Haliburton made a
(08:53):
great play, grabs it, goes back.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
I thought that.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
They were playing decent defense. They were forcing him to
go left. He got the shot off. This is how
it sounded.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Nine seconds.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
They do have a time out.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Carlisle's gonna let him play Calliburton steps back, hats.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Tyrese Halliburton try to take Cleveland's heart.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
He's over the Dana Pacers in a game two stunner.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Now, Indiana. I thought they were going to blow a
great chance to go up too well, because Cleveland's without
three starters and you should win this game, but they
were blowing it, and I thought, boy, you're gonna look
back and if Cleveland when they get healthy, and then
all of a sudden, Cleveland's going to be the better
team once again. I'm not surprised that the Pacers are
(09:53):
up too well. I said at the start of the series.
I wouldn't be surprised if they won the series because
this is probably the first time you're watching the Pacers play,
or maybe the last series against Milwaukee, you've got a
chance to watch them. But now they're facing Cleveland. Now
you're going to watch them, and you see that Halliburton
is a really good player. He wants the ball in
(10:14):
big time situations. And I love that you got an
experienced coach and Rick Carlile, like they've been here last
year Eastern Conference Finals. They're a really good team. But
Cleveland being banged up Mitchell was wonderful last night. But
now you're on the road going back to Indiana and
you're down two games to none. Watching the Minnesota series,
(10:36):
I kept thinking, where is the energy with Minnesota. I
thought that they were going to be, you know, like
kids eating candy on Halloween night, like you're just you're
got so much energy you're bouncing off the wall. They
didn't have that, And that was probably the most surprising
part of that is I thought Anthony Edwards was going
to put on a show. I thought he was going
(10:58):
to go to go off tonight. So you get Steph Curry,
who had I think thirteen points in the first half,
and he pulled up with a hamming injury. And you
know when you don't go to the bench, you go
right to the locker room. Then you know it's serious.
And Steve Kerr has already come out and said he
doubts that he'll be able to play in game two.
I don't think this is gamesmanship. I think it's real
(11:19):
with a hamstring. But Chris Finch is the Timberwolves head
coach and he talked about Anthony Edwards after the loss.
Speaker 6 (11:28):
What is there to talk about. I mean, they're a
leader of the team and you got to come out
and set the tone. You know in all ways that
that happens. And if it's if your SHOT's not going like,
you still have to carry.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
The energy, you know.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
So I don't think there's if I got to talk
to guys about having the right energy coming into opening
around Gay opening the second round game and you know
we're not you know, we're not on the same page.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
So I was surprised. I thought Anthony Edwards would bring
the energy, but he didn't. You know, he had some
decent numbers, but it's one of those where you watch
the game, those numbers aren't truly reflective of what kind
of game that he played. But you don't have Steph
Curry to worry about. But Buddy healed. Love it, Buddy healed.
(12:19):
Take the shots.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Man. It was great.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
I was just really surprised that Golden State. You know,
quick turnaround and you're going to Minnesota. Minnesota. You know,
here's aunt who's going, Hey, I've knocked off Lebron and
I've knocked off Luca and you know, go down the joker.
Now I'm going to knock off Staff. I mean, that's
quite a resume for somebody who's twenty three years of age.
(12:43):
But this is your moment.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Now.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
I know he doesn't want to be the face of
the league, but you got to be the face of
your franchise. I just I was surprised. I thought he
was going to put up forty. I thought it was
going to be Hey, time to take over here, Steph.
You had a great run. It's now my turn, and
it didn't happen last night. All right, See what's the
pole question we're gonna go with. We got a bunch
(13:06):
of options here for you. All right.
Speaker 7 (13:09):
By the way, we were just talking about Paully and
I about the low energy response from the coach about
getting more energy from the team, which is kind of iron.
Speaker 8 (13:18):
Was the least energetic criticism.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Let me let me hear a little bit more from
coach Pinch.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
What is there to talk about.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
I mean, you're they're the leader of the team, and
you got to come out and sit the tone. You
know in all ways that that happens. And if it's
if your SHOT's not going like you you still have
to carry the energy.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
You know.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
It's not exactly win one for the Gipper.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
We're gonna out there and we're gonna win, win, win.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
He's gonna win the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
You gotta come.
Speaker 8 (13:49):
If you guys don't mind, could you.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I sleep number setting at seventy five. Yes, Todd, I
know you're asked the question.
Speaker 9 (13:57):
So it's not like he was just kind of something
he just kind of threw out there to share with
the press. But is that the best way to get
messrs to Anthony Edwards as supposed to talking to him
afterwards about his energy and just kind of calling out
your player in the beginning of a semi final series.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
What do you think?
Speaker 10 (14:11):
I don't think it's.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
A good local.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Why's that funny?
Speaker 2 (14:15):
You always put it on me when you're asking a question?
You a question, then you gusked me. Why don't you
just say it?
Speaker 8 (14:22):
Because I want your opinion?
Speaker 2 (14:23):
No, but you want to tell me your opinion. You're
telling me your opinion by saying, well, do you think
that's the best way to go but instead of saying,
I don't think that's the best way to go about
getting Anthony Edwards to play harder. Okay, wait, are you
gonna know?
Speaker 10 (14:42):
I just I just I posted as a question. But
moving forward, I'll say statements instead of questions.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Well, no, you you do this and that's why I'm
I know where you're going with it, So I want
to know why you're I don't think that is.
Speaker 8 (14:52):
Quite an ask answer ask thing that I've been.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
No, no, no you no, no, no, no easy here, Chris, Okay,
you know I just ask I'd sometimes ask you how
you feel because you're giving me what you really feel,
but you're doing it in a question for him. That's all, okay, just.
Speaker 10 (15:11):
I was just innocently asking your opinion.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
No, no, no, it's it's okay. Sare my opinion that I done? No,
just relax, you're not being picked on. Everything's good.
Speaker 10 (15:22):
You got a nice giggle from the other side of
the glass. So there was some kind of shot there,
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Oh my god, I'm sixteen minutes too. We can't do this.
Speaker 7 (15:32):
And you know there's a giggle is because almost everyone
in the world can see what's coming except for you.
And that's why it's funny, because you walk yourself into
this situation all the time and then it doesn't. It
never works out. Well, that's kind of what the.
Speaker 10 (15:49):
But if a caller was to ask you a question,
you wouldn't say, what do you think? What you would
just right?
Speaker 11 (15:54):
You wouldn't say.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Usually callers give me an opinion when they call in.
They want to tell me something. There was a hint
of my opinion in Oh my god, god stop. Okay,
you do this all the time, and I turn it
back on you because you want to tell me something
that you feel. We do this and even when we're
(16:16):
not on the radio, I said, well, what do you think?
So that's all this is. I just ask you what
you thought. Everybody gets a chance to have an opinion here,
that was all.
Speaker 9 (16:28):
And I just thought it'd be weird if I just
said a statement of my opinion as opposed to putting
it in a question.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
I don't why.
Speaker 10 (16:33):
I felt like I was asking, as opposed to say, Okay,
that's a bad look. He shouldn't be doing that.
Speaker 12 (16:37):
That's what you're saying.
Speaker 9 (16:38):
I should have Yes, why would you call out your coach.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Say I think that's a bad look. I think when
the coach does that, it's a bad look. What do
you think? Okay, that's all. Okay, it's really simple. We've
been doing this for over two decades. We have, Yes,
we have. That makes it even more frustrating that we've
been doing this for over two decades.
Speaker 13 (17:00):
My god.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Yeah, how about we take a break here, right, we
get two phone calls coming up, settle on a poll question.
All tend to Fritzie during the commercial break. We're back
after this on the Dan Patrick Show.

Age seven to seven to three DP show email address,
Dpadanpatrick dot com Twitter handle on a GP show. These
guys are so spoiled. We have meat Friday. But I
said to Dylan, Dylan, why don't you whip up some breakfast?
And he had some breakfast tacos. Well, Seton was in
here working. I don't know how he missed that. Everybody
(18:42):
else was going out to the kitchen and having breakfast tacos.
Seaton just found out that we had breakfast tacos. Yeah, Seaton,
some of us.
Speaker 7 (18:50):
Were focused on work here and somehow being called spoiled
for it. But some of us were focused on working
in here and skipped breakfast. Yeah, go to Wednesday. I
missed it, damn it.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Yeah, breakfast tacos. I know, I know, damn I just
try to, you know, spice it up a little bit
around here. Keep you guys on your toes, right, that's
all Dylan.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
That.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
By the way, those were good breakfast tacos. They really were.
Speaker 7 (19:21):
Out there too, like it looked like some type of potato.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
They had hash browns, sausage they had Avocando had some
hot sauce there body then yeah, you guys, damn, I
told you stop putting work before pleasure. Never made that
mistake again. I tell you that we talked about the
(19:46):
Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers with that trade that is
still being finalized there as George Pickens goes to the cowboys. Well,
when you think of the cowboys, you might think of
Shyan Irving, who joins us on the program. What do
you think about? How about them cowboys there? Shay No, Danny.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Danny, you know, this reminds me of the time I
quit drinking. And the way I did is I just
got into Benzo's and I accomplished my original goal. But
what did it cost me in the end? You know,
a lot as a gambler, as a fellow degenerate, I
stand with Jerry on this gamble. But it's a huge gamble, Danny.
(20:27):
And this is God's judgment for trading amory. This is
what they get. What are benzos? Uh? You know? Uh
Anax Danny Forbard's baby the latter.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Oh okay, what are we doing? Okay, but you don't
do any of that anymore. Just want to put that
out there.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
No, Danny, I'll tell you what you get into those,
you'll lose three four days in a row. It's just
you're gone. All right.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Well, Jerry said he was going to make some moves.
He was all in, maybe make some trades. You you
got George Pickens in a in a contract case, Yeah,
in a rental.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
It's a one year round and you're asking a first
year head coach to keep it all cope, setic. It's
a huge gamble, but they had to do something. Danny.
I'm staying with Jerry when it comes to gambled.
Speaker 13 (21:07):
I have to.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
I think the over under seven and a half wins
for the Cowboys. Over okay, over all, right, let's go.
Will the Cowboys make the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (21:20):
No, I don't want to call there.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
All right, Well thanks for calling in, Yeah whatever, all right?
That's Shane and Irving. He sounds rough for a guy
who doesn't drink or do anything anymore, he sounds pretty rough. Yes,
PAULI I was hoping he'd say they make the playoffs. Ready,
you're ready to bet? I was ready. I was jumping
in on that as well. Was I.
Speaker 8 (21:41):
I'll go I'll put five hundred against it. If Shae
wants to call back.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
In five hundred that the Cowboys don't make the playoff, okay,
if he wants it, okay, gambling, he is part of
the Gambling podcast, Shane, let me know, call back in
if you want to take Paulie up on the bet.
He'll bet you five hundred dollars the Cowboys will not
make the playoffs. So maybe we can reach out to Yeah,
(22:06):
sure you might jump in on that with pot, but
maybe I'll split the We'll do two fifty. Yeah, okay,
all right, we'll get to phone calls. Uh, let's settle
on a poll question here. First hour. We'll check in
with the Steelers coming up at the top of the hour.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
What do you have for me?
Speaker 7 (22:23):
Okay, let's see. Does anyone understand what Dan just said
to Todd? Yes or no?
Speaker 4 (22:28):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Oh wait, that's the wrong pole question. I'm sorry, sorry
about that. Uh, I'm gonna lose Fritzy the rest of
the show. Now, I don't think I walked by and
you put your head down you didn't want to talk.
Speaker 10 (22:40):
To me, that's at the exact time, or you don't
walk from Okay, like a little stain on the X
and CNV, how must have spilled?
Speaker 2 (22:51):
S Okay, I'm gonna believe you. I think you're telling
me the truth.
Speaker 10 (22:54):
Actually give you the cold shoulder.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Right, Oh, I know that that's funny that all right, Seeten,
what do you have?
Speaker 7 (23:01):
Sovereignty? Is skipping the Preakness is smart or soft? I
don't even understand why it's smart. What the heck.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Unless there's something wrong with the horse. This is horse
racing needs this. We get excited when the you have
the possibility of a triple crown. It always happened, you know.
As soon as the derby's over, we're like, all right,
what's the possibility?
Speaker 3 (23:23):
You know?
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Is it a long shot? Therefore they're not going to
win on you know, a different track, different distance, and
like the Belmont, they're waiting for the Belmont. The Belmont
is going to be in Saratoga. It's not even going
to be at the Belmont. So you got the Preakness
not going to do the Preakness. It doesn't it feel
like it should be an unwritten rule that if you
(23:46):
win the derby, you're going to go for the triple crown.
Speaker 8 (23:49):
Yes, Pauline, I think that's the problem. It is an
unwritten rule. There do some research on this. This morning
sovereignty on Tuesday, before the pregnant spts even started tapped out.
It does not appear to be a health issue. It's
just a strategy issue to win the Belmont. Sovereignty is
the fourth of the last seven Kentucky Derby winners who
will have skipped the chance to run in the Belmont
(24:13):
running the Priestess, and it's becoming a trend that's more
likely than not in the past decade. It appears to
be just a strategy to win the second.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Okay, we have load management in all sports. Do we
have load management in Triple Crown races?
Speaker 16 (24:31):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (24:33):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Is it asking that much? I want the horse to
be safe, you know, first and foremost, But this is
what horse racing needs. Yes, Marvin, I'm sure NBC is
a static about knowing about this. Yeah, you know, it's
just well if I just want to make sure, because
I could go on a rant here, but I want
(24:56):
to make sure the horse is healthy.
Speaker 8 (24:58):
We're checking. We looked at a bunch of different stories.
Between nineteen sixty and twenty eighteen, no horse has skipped
the Preakness without an injury issue. You know, and now
it's becoming a bit of a trend.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
And I don't know how you enforced this to say,
you won the Derby, you must be in the Preakness.
But boy, it feels like you kind of need to
get towards because all the trainer has to do is go,
you know, he got a bad you know, leg hoof something.
(25:32):
I haven't seen anything. I've checked the injury list to report,
you know, for horse racing. I thought he would have
been probable.
Speaker 7 (25:41):
Yeah, yeah, Like the only thing I see is that
about the long term health of the horse is what
they're There's been a quote about that.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
But I do see too that there the two week.
Speaker 7 (25:54):
Rest between races is seen as too short, that that's
not long enough. Should and can the Preakness bump back?
I don't know, a week or two, Maybe make it
a month in between.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
I don't know anything about this. But if that, if
that window is too short, it's not like you need
it to be two weeks necessarily, right.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
I don't know how that lines up sports wise, but yeah,
I'm just surprised that, you know, because it feels like, hey,
I have a trick, I have a chance to go
for the triple crown or I have a triple crown winner.
But you know, once again, this is analytics too, so
load management analytics, and it's in horse racing. Yeah, I'm pauling.
Speaker 8 (26:40):
Some trainers interviewed with Sports Illustrated said that the the
triple crown window is so short it causes this, and
they do the triple crown window short to increase ratings
by keeping it as like a six week story. If
they opened it up and made it four weeks between events,
they'd be more likely to have them run into every race.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Well, have they had some kind of discussion here with this?
I mean I hope they have. I don't know. Is
there somebody running the triple crown or is it just
you're kind of on your own? The derby and the
precise in the belment.
Speaker 8 (27:13):
Is it three separate entities that.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Justin That's what I would be curious about.
Speaker 8 (27:17):
Has anyone asked the horse's opinion?
Speaker 10 (27:18):
Exactly?
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Thank you, Todd. Shan Irving is back. Do you want
a piece of this bet with Paulie in seatan?
Speaker 3 (27:26):
I heard we got a couple of squares trying to
gamble Danny. They want to welcome to a man's world.
I'm all here for it.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Okay, what's the bet, Paulie in Seatan, say the Cowboys
don't make the playoffs, they'll split you five hundred two
fifty a piece there. You want a piece of that?
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Give me plus two hundred. That's a bet.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Lock it in, okay, So explain that though.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
At risk five they give me one thousand USC got
the Canadian marks or whatever socialist currency seat has got
in his pocket?
Speaker 2 (28:00):
D okay, So he puts up five hundred. You might
want to find another form of currency there. If the
Cowboys make the playoffs, then he gets a thousand.
Speaker 8 (28:13):
I didn't know, Shay, you believed that little in your
team that you had to double it there.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
I might be stupid, but I ain't that dumb, Paulie.
It's plus one eighty on the internet right now? Why
am I betting you when I can just go to
my book get the Italian up the street. Not only
can I get a sandwich, I'm getting Italian hero maybe
a canoli. He'll also give me plus two hundred.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
All right, how about we make it two fifty and
then you could win five hundred?
Speaker 3 (28:37):
All right? Bet lock it in now, now.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Okay, Nope, no thing, You're not doing that.
Speaker 13 (28:43):
No.
Speaker 8 (28:44):
Wow, we offered a bet.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
He passed at his year end review. I want you
to remember this.
Speaker 8 (28:49):
Dating up up up six hundred to R five hundred.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
No give me plus one seventy last final offer. Can't
do it.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Thank you, Sha. More from Shay coming up Thursday on
The Gambling Podcast Dan Patrick dot com. Curtis in Illinois, Hi, Curtis,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Morning?
Speaker 17 (29:11):
DP sat some prayers to Todd this morning. But more
than the Pacers robbed the Calves for the win last night,
the Pacers robbed the fans of the NBA the opportunity
to watch Tyrese Haliburton's dand run on a court and
get in Ti James's face.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
He had to be sitting at home, I'm guessing and
watching his son since he's not allowed to go on
the road or even home games as well. But thank you, Curtis.
Josh in Texas, Hi Josh, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 16 (29:43):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (29:43):
DP?
Speaker 18 (29:44):
First time caller, longtime listener six one two ninety and
also with me is Natasha five months, seventeen pounds.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
A sleep on my chest.
Speaker 18 (29:57):
So I was calling for the NBA Playoffs. Has there
ever been a time where all the lower seeds had
the series lead and then possible pull question off of that,
which of the lower seeds, since they all have the lead,
is least likely to win their series? My guess would
be the nixt The Celtics are gonna win.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
All right, This is the first time in the second
round that all four road teams won Golden State. I
don't know what you know the health status is with
Steph Curry. In fact, here's Steve Kerr talking about Steph
Curry's injury.
Speaker 11 (30:31):
Day to day. You'll get an MRI tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Did you talk to him? Just?
Speaker 2 (30:34):
What was I talked to him at halftime?
Speaker 11 (30:36):
Just you know, he's obviously crushed, but you know, the
guys picked him up and played a great game. And
obviously we're all concerned about stuff, but it's part of
part of the game. You just guys get hurt and
you move on. Our guys did a great job of
moving on and getting a great win. You know, forty
eight hours after a game seven road.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
Win, Nicks at the Celtics tonight and get set the
thunder both games too, Nathan and san Antonio. Nate, what's
on your mind today.
Speaker 13 (31:07):
Hey, Dan, thanks for taking my call. Longtime, long time.
I know you guys were talking yesterday about the Hall
of very Good, but I wanted to add another level,
all of great but not quite fame. I think Penny
was mentioned. Are there any other greats above very good?
(31:30):
Not quite Hall of fame right in there? Hall of great?
Any other names you could throw in there?
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Little We're getting into too many categories there, Nathan, I
think we're just scratching of the appropriate amount of category.
You love this, he goes, I love that it was
pretty good, good, very good, very very good.
Speaker 7 (31:49):
Why isn't there a hall of great? There's definitely some
that are greater than very good. Well, I think we
created that yesterday. The Hall of great, I think just
doing the Hall of very good. Oh, and then the
Hall of pretty good, the Hall of good. That was
the big debate, really is which is better pretty good
or good?
Speaker 19 (32:07):
Yes, Martin and Gerbert Aarnus wanted to be in the
Hall of very very good.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Yeah, yeah, he wanted to create his own category there.
Speaker 8 (32:13):
Yes, Paulin, you can't use great because if you're great,
you make the Hall of Fame. Unless you're dumbing down the.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Word great maybe lowercase great. Okay, yeah, it's another category here. Yeah,
a lot of reaction to that yesterday the Hall of
very good, very very good, pretty good and good. And
then the argument was, well, wait, what's more impressive to
be pretty good or to be good?
Speaker 19 (32:40):
Yes, Marvin, Yeah, getting a DM at eleven fifty nine pm.
My wife's like your.
Speaker 12 (32:45):
Own buzz and who's that?
Speaker 19 (32:47):
And I was like, oh, it's so and so Amari
Stotamyer hall of very good.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
Oh my gosh, all right, he thought Amer hall of
very good.
Speaker 19 (32:57):
You could tell this guy was from Phoenix.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 19 (32:59):
He was like, hey, m Shawn Mary.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
And I was like, oh my god. That was a run.
This is a run. They had their window man a
bell I think in that way. Yeah, their run run, dude,
that was that was a whole lot of fun. Young
Joe Johnson okay, like two thousand and five ish, mate, Yeah,
Quinn Richardson, I know.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
All right, let me take a break, got our play
the day coming up. We'll check in with the Steelers.
Ray Allen is going to join us coming up next
hour as well. We're back after this Dan Patrick Show.

This is the play of the day.
Speaker 12 (33:54):
Check this out.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Four seconds to go Halliburton four three three ball well
up top Indienda by one one a one. Ten seconds
to go inbound Merrill didn't get it off and this
rivals the Milwaukee finish.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
You have gotten to be hitting me.
Speaker 2 (34:15):

Cowboys and Steelers finalizing a trade that will send George
Pickens to the Cowboys for draft picks. And I don't
know who that second wide receiver is for the Steelers.
They passed on drafting a wide receiver. Their respeculation leading
(35:00):
up to the draft, even during the draft that the
Steelers were going to move on from George Pickens. I
know that they have Roman Wilson who played for Michigan,
kind of undersized. They have Calvin austin the third. I
don't know who else they're going to bring in.
Speaker 13 (35:15):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
I think they have Robert Woods. That's not going to
get it done. If you're trying to entice Aaron Rodgers,
They're going about it in a pretty interesting way. Let's
see a couple of phone calls here, Bill in Boise, Hi, Bill,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Hey?
Speaker 16 (35:31):
I was calling about racehorse and first time, long time. Okay,
So you hit the nail on the head when you
said that the endgame is no governing body. That seems
to be the issue with horse racing in today's world.
Every track across the country makes their own rules, so
be it. You know who they're going to allow in,
(35:52):
what they're going to charge for the race, or what
quote unquote medicine.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
They'll they'll allow horses to take.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
And then the other issue with with the race time
between race is typically horses race every four to six weeks,
so to start moving those races around, it sort of
changes the marathon event of the triple crowd.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
All right, thank you, Bill. But if I'm NBC and
I'm the one broadcasting, I gotta interject here. I have
to say, look, we trying to grow this sport. They
had good ratings, good ratings for the Derby, big number,
certainly right at the very end. You know, they're broadcast
(36:33):
right before the race. But this is a three part
series that NBC is bringing you. They're bringing you the Derby,
the Preakness, and the Belmont. But when the lead actor
is not going to be in the second part of
this series, well it just takes away all that momentum
because we want to see greatness. You want to see
(36:54):
sovereignty be able to then you win the Preakness, and
then the Belmont's going to be at Sarah Togan this year.
But you know, I had to understand what a horse
is going through. I don't know how you do that.
I'm gonna have to just trust the owner and the trainer,
and they say that they don't want this, this is
something that affects their horse long term.
Speaker 8 (37:16):
Yeah, only the casual fan watches thirty minutes of horse
racing racehorsing, like the other guy said a year.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Yeah, what's the difference between horse racing and racehorsing.
Speaker 8 (37:25):
I don't know if he's right or really wrong with that.
Speaker 7 (37:27):
Friend like racehorsing, though, is the way to go. I
like that way better than horse racing. Sounds boring, but racehorsing, yeah, yes, horse.
Speaker 10 (37:35):
Racing is more of a hobby. Racehorsing is when you
actually get involved competitively, a little more serious.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
I'm sorry, I'm a racehorser. You're not a horse racer. No,
I'm a racehorser. James and Cincinnati. Hi James, what's on
your mind today? Where's such a jerk? Hi James?
Speaker 12 (37:57):
He so you're looking at this all wrong. What you
need to say, instead of the second tier of hall
of something is to have the atrium of fame, or
the dining room of fame, or perhaps the uh, your
living room of fame.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Well, I came up with the idea of why not
have first floor, second floor, third floor, penthouse and basement.
But that's for the hall of fame, like you get in.
Not everybody should be at the penthouse level. Some guys
are probably first floor if you want to have a basement,
although that designation kind of sounds negative. So all right,
(38:35):
first floor. There's this group more of a garden the
garden district.
Speaker 7 (38:42):
It's more of a garden apartment really, yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
With a view.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
But you know, i'd like that. I also am in
favor of if you're a first balance Hall of Famer,
your jacket is gold like even its actual goal. Yes,
like it's a different looking shade because you're a first
ballot Hall of Famer. Yes, Martin.
Speaker 19 (39:06):
It's gonna get awkward when people say, all right, gold
jacket guys. No, no, no, he Mustard yellow move move move
move Jon Mustard. Move only for the gold jacket guys.
They can get awkward.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
Dave in Arkansas, Hi, Dave, what's on your mind? They
they call me Pittsford Day.
Speaker 16 (39:23):
And I can sum the straight up with one word.
And I think a Skywalkers said it been me. They
could have traded him anywhere, but to Dallas. Dallas is
the evil Empire. I would go to the Ravens sends
(39:44):
a giant.
Speaker 12 (39:44):
I don't cannot Dallas.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
No, but you're not playing Dallas. They're not in your division,
So who cares if you send him to Dallas. If
Dallas is going to give you a third round draft pick,
I don't know what anybody else would have given you,
But Dave, thanks for calling it. I don't care if
he goes to the Cowboys.
Speaker 19 (40:03):
Yeah, Marvin, the Cowboys aren't good enough to hate anymore.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Yeah, isn't that sad? Took a while. It took a
long time, almost thirty years before you go. Yeah, you
know what, I don't have a real strong opinion on
the Cowboys. Yeah, Paulin.
Speaker 8 (40:19):
It happened to Notre Dame football fifteen twenty years ago.
When they weren't they kind of lost a little relevance
in the playoff picture. But then they've made the postseason
a few times in the past ten years.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Well, you also like their coach now, you know, I
think Marcus Freeman is not a polarizing guy. I think
when they got blown out in the National title game,
that's where you kind of went, Oh, man, feel sorry
Alabama crushed him. Okay, you know we got to go
(40:49):
out to Notre Dame this fall. We need to take
the show to Notre Dame.
Speaker 13 (40:53):
Lovely.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Yeah, when's the USC playing Notre Dame? Is that October
bautiful time peak Foliage. Yes, last time we went out there,
I think it was Notre Dame, USC around the same time.
I think it's like, uh, late October. Does that sound good,
(41:13):
Marvin October eighteenth? Okay, oh boy, South Ben, take the
whole crew out there. A couple of cold ones, Yes,
that'd be great. We'll work on that. Yeah, a couple
of ruth Keith.
Speaker 8 (41:28):
Remember we've brought a flask because we couldn't have been.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
I'd look over and Paulie is doing push ups on
the sidelines. He's got a flask of whiskey.
Speaker 7 (41:37):
I can't think of the last time I was that
panicked where I was like, what do you mean?
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Knowing as a beer?
Speaker 3 (41:42):
I know.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
Alert we were at a tailgate and we couldn't get
a beer. What the hell?
Speaker 3 (41:50):
All right?
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Hour two coming up. Ray Allen will join us and
we'll check in with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
