Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Our two.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
On this Thursday, Lewis Riddick from the Mothership will join us,
get his thoughts on the Giants, closing in on John
Harball not official yet, and then we'll start to look
at some of these other coaching vacancies.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Eight seven seven to three.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
DP Show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter handled at
DP show. Just got this from Pat forty, great college
football writer, college basketball writer. Federal investigators are filing sports
bribery and wire fraud charges against twenty people in relation
to game fixing, point shaving, and performance manipulation in college basketball,
(00:43):
and among those several former players. So keep an eye
on this. But Pat forty is reporting it's it's not
a question of if, but when, just there's money, and
it feels like, as I've said before, nobody's going to
be watching this game or this performance. A couple of
(01:04):
missed free throws. We don't cover this spread and Vegas
has to monitor this. That's their livelihood. But the only
way this really goes crazy is if you have a
marquee player who's involved in something like this or an
important game, but most of your important people are already
(01:29):
making good money, so you don't want to jeopardize that
it's the person who is not getting big nil money
or playing for a school. That nobody would ever think
that this could happen, that we would be doing this,
but Vegas is keeping an eye on this. But Pat
Forty reporting that up to twenty people, Yeston, I.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Feel like you would.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Maybe I just don't get it, but I feel like
if you're a player, I feel like it would be
hard to shave points. But maybe it's just not.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Well, all you have to do is now thankfully they
took away the prop bets from college kids, which I'm like, uh, helloo.
But all you have to do you don't have to
lose a game. You just have to know that it's
nine points and then do something around that to make
sure that those who think you're going to cover the
nine or you're not going to cover the nine, you
(02:20):
make sure you take care of that. And it could
be and in basketball it's five guys. It doesn't take
long to be able to manipulate something like that.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yes, you like, all of a sudden, you're like, dang,
dribble the ball off my foot again.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
You can miss a shot. You can miss a shot
and nobody would think anything of that. You missed a
shot happens all the time. Missed a free throw, it
happens all the time. You know, the obvious turnover where
you throw it out of bounds or dribble it off
your foot or whatever, then that can be suspicious. But
if you miss a shot, you miss a shot or
(02:52):
two or three.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
Yeah, Paully in the book and the documentary about BC
basketball in the late seventies and the point shaving the
first few games, they said you could still win the
game again, win by ten instead of whatever, and they
had to have the point guard involved. They said they
couldn't do it without the point guard. And they just
made a couple misses, a couple passes went out of bounce,
and then they asked them to actually lose a game.
And that's where the players were like, no, we're going
(03:14):
to stop, and we're gonna call. You can't call the cops,
you can't call the NCAA.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Speaking of college, cam Newton snubbed by the College Football
Hall of Fame, So the doors of the College Football
Hall of Fame opened on Wednesday to welcome in twenty
two new members. So this is an article that is
from Auburn Football that Cam was snubbed by the College
Football Hall of Fame, mark Ingram first Alabama player elected
(03:43):
from the Nick Saban era. Let's see and then they say, well,
where's Cam Newton? He won the Heisman carrying his team
to a national title. Says he fell short of the
required threshold for induction. I don't know what the threshold is.
(04:06):
Wisconsin running back Monty Ball got in on his first try.
He was a big deal there for a couple of
years at Wisconsin. Let me see any other Ooh, Jordan
Lynch got in. Jordan Lynch, former Northern Illinois quarterback, Did
(04:27):
he get in?
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (04:28):
He had a monster's career.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
He didn't have a Cam Newton career.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
He had a longer career than more than the one
year career.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Cam Newton had an incredible impactful and might have been
the best quarterback that we've ever seen in college foot It'd.
Speaker 5 (04:43):
Be fair to say Cam Newton's season is at worst
the top three single seasons in college football quarterbacking history.
Here's the I've looked back at this a lot. I
followed the College Football Hall of Fame. They don't have
a normal like five years. Now you're on the ballot
and you go, let's put this way and Doma can
Sue got in one of the great defensive tackles in
college football history. He graduated in two thousand and nine,
(05:05):
so he had to wait fifteen years.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Well, eligibility begins ten seasons after your college career is over,
so you got to wait ten years before you're inducted.
All right, So twenty two players got in and Cam
Newton didn't. He'll get in, but hey, you know what,
(05:27):
it gives him a topic on his podcast. Wasn't he
upset that the Colts didn't reach out to him when
they brought in Philip Rivers?
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Like, how dare you not reach out to me?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
But he insisted on wearing that cowboy hat when he
was on the field, and they couldn't find a helmet
that would fit over that.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
Yes, Marvin, just because of who was on that Auburn team.
He dragged the Auburn teams to the national championship that
had Nick Fairley and who else? Yeah, I don't remember either.
Like Joe Burrow, he was throwing the two All Pro
NFL wide receivers in college Johnny Manziel. Mike Evans deserves
like an arm or a leg when that hides me, yes,
(06:08):
because or at least the hands, at least whenever he
was in trouble, let me just throw him in the air.
Mike Evans will go get it. Like who was on
that team?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Yeah? Who was it?
Speaker 5 (06:18):
The running back was Michael Dyer? Really nice running back?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
But we had Gary Danielson on longtime CBS analyst and
I said, who's the best player you ever saw? And
he said Cam Newton because of what Cam did at Auburn,
with what he had at Auburn, certainly offensively.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
You know, it's I would love to vote on these.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Committees, but it is a thankless job because hey, I
just changed the lives of twenty two people, and then
there's going to be the next twenty people that you
didn't change their lives or you gave them disappointment.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Same thing with the Hall of Fame. I've never voted
on those. I've only voted.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
For like regular season awards with the NBA, and I
vote for the Heisman. But Cam Newton not in. I'm surprised,
but he will get in. I go back to Christian Laightner.
I've been banging the drum for Christian Latner being in
the Basketball Hall of Fame given what he did in college.
(07:22):
Coaches get in for what they did in college. Christian
Laytner should be in the Basketball Hall of Fame. And
it's not the NBA. It is the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Nay Smith.
Speaker 6 (07:33):
Yes, Marvin, and I am with you only because of
who's gotten in. Guys like Dino Raja and Tony Kok
coach and Vladi Devac are in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
So I am with you completely on that aspect.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Bloody debak.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
All right, some phone calls coming up, by the way,
Good morning if you're watching on Peacock. That's our streaming
partner RG three. RG three didn't get into the Hall
of Fame this time around. We'll talk to him coming
up final hour, and we'll also talk to Lewis Riddick
of the Mothership coming up. But the reports are that
John Harball and the Giants are close to solidifying a
(08:05):
contract that'll pay him probably twenty million dollars over the
next five years. Now we have eight coaching vacancies. We'll
talk about that coming up. Seaton Poll question today eight
seven seven three DP show operator Tyler sitting by, He'll
take your calls. What are we going to go with
in hour two?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
We have right now? We have up there. I'd rather
be a starter at Nebraska or a backup at Oregon.
Forty excuse me, seventy four percent of the audience have
a starter at Nebraska. And is John Harbaugh in better
football situation now than he was a month ago? Sixty
one percent say no.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Well, he had a team that was a super Bowl
caliber team.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I think he needed a fresh start.
Speaker 7 (08:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
A month ago he was fighting for the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yes, yeah, I think for him personally, you know this,
this allows him to show that he can build a team,
he can be the CEO. I don't like he didn't
want to leave Baltimore. Tomlin wanted to leave Pittsburgh. John
did not want to leave Baltimore. So maybe you look
(09:09):
at it that way that he wanted to stay at
a place that didn't want him. So how can this
be a better place? I think it will turn out
to be a better place for him. I think he
had gone as far as he could go. And if
you can't get that team over the top with that
quarterback and that talent and that running back. It is
time to move on. Same thing with Tomlin. You know,
(09:30):
as great as he is, oh man, he's the CEO,
and that's the guy you want and players will run
through a wall for.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
But they didn't.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
They didn't accomplish anything in the last ten years other
than hey, we're better than average and we made it
into the postseason. So it was time to move on.
Step down. And you know, he's going to get an
opportunity to do TV, and I don't know if he's
going to be good in TV. There are guys who
have been good in TV or were good in TV
(10:02):
that I never thought they would be. And then the
other way around, where you go, well, that guy, he's
got a lot of personality. If you would have said
Sterling Sharp was going to be good in TV, I
would have been probably on the other side of that.
But then meeting him and understanding his personality and his
knowledge of football, I go, no, he'll be successful. But
(10:24):
there are certain guys where you go, he's a good
analyst for a game, and that guy's good for the studio.
But I don't know if Mike Tomlin's going to go. Hey,
I can give you fifteen seconds on this or in
the studio. Hey, I've got an answer. I already know
what your question is going to be. In the game,
you don't know what's going to happen. Therefore, you better
(10:47):
be really good on your toes. You better be able
to add lib, break down something. What do you see
sense a humor timing getting along with your partner. There's
a lot that goes on you when you have a
successful broadcast team. It is more than just the two
guys on the air. It's everything that goes along with that.
(11:09):
And like Tony Romo and I said this before, Jim
nance is unbelievable, even better than he's ever been because
he has to be, because I think Tony puts him
in a position where Jim's got to clean up the mess.
Tony came out of the gate. I didn't think he
would be good in TV. I remember Rich Eyesen telling
(11:31):
me that he was part of the audition with Tony
said he's going to be great. I go, really, he
was refreshing. But this is what I would say to
anybody who's doing that job. You know the players now,
but when you get to year seven or eight or nine,
you have to do even more homework. You can't go
(11:53):
a thirty two or forty five or fifty four when
you're out of the game, like Tom Bray, the further
he's removed, the more he has to dedicate himself to
knowing who these players are.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
You can't just throw out a number.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Now, if you were playing, you can say that, hey,
thirty two or forty five or fifty four. When you're
the analyst, can't do that. And Collinsworth had to rededicate himself.
Troy Aikman had to rededicate himself. If you want to
do this for a long haul, you got to know
who these players are.
Speaker 8 (12:28):
Yes, Tod, I know it's not easy in the moment
to look down, but they have roster sheets and all
the information that's in front of them. I know that's
you know, in that second you can't necessarily glance and
find number fifty three or whatever, but they have a
lot of that stuff at their fingertips.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Well, you got a spotter who's there to help you,
like they'll point out who that guy is.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
You just you know, you got to do your homework.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
And Tony has been labeled as somebody who's not doing
his homework, whether it's true or not. But you know
you got Jim nanc who's doing an unbelievable job.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
There are too many.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Rumors, whispers articles about Tony that you know some of
this has to be true. And did they have an
intervention with him to say, Tony, you got to go
back in and you got to study.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
You know you can't get by going.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
I don't know, Jim, I don't know what's gonna be
a runner bas We're gonna see, like that's not an
analysis there. And I think Aikman in the last couple
of years, I just think he doesn't give a bleep.
Like he gets on there and he's going to tell
you what he thinks. And he's done a really good job.
(13:37):
Greg Olsen has done a really good job. I think
JJ Watt is doing a good job. But he's got
Iron Eagle with him that helps so much and having
fun doing the game. You know, you go back to
Madden in summer. All Here's what I was told a
long long time time ago. Work really hard to make
(13:57):
it seem like you're not working hard.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
It's just preparation. Bob Constas would work really hard at
making it look easy and it's not. That's what great
ones do. They make it look easy and it's not.
We'll take a break, we'll talk to some of these
coaching vacancies. We also talk to Lewis Riddick about did
the Giants get the right guy? And we'll go around
(14:22):
the rest of these openings. And also, by the way,
there's football coming up this weekend. The road team that
will win, we'll have that for you coming up.
Speaker 1 (14:32):

Lebron James agent, Rich Paul Walks, back his comments on
his podcast talking about what the Lakers should do. They
should trade Austin Reeves to Memphis for Jaren Jackson Junior.
The third I think Austin Reeves agent had something to
say to Rich Paul, and so did Lebron. We'll have
that for you coming up, Lewis Riddick of the mother
(15:34):
Ship ESPN NFL College football analyst. Did the Giants get
the right guy?
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Lewis?
Speaker 9 (15:42):
No question.
Speaker 7 (15:44):
Look, Dan, I know John for a long time. He
was an assistant. Don't know if he's a grad assistant
or just an assistant on our staff at the University
of Pittsburgh when I was there as a freshman and sophomore.
Speaker 9 (15:55):
I believe he was there with his dad, Jack So,
who was a great friend of Mike.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
So.
Speaker 7 (16:00):
I've known John a long long time. I know what
his family values and how they look at the game
of football. I've been able, I've been fortunate enough, along
with our team to call multiple Money Night games and
talk to him multiple occasions about team building, player development,
roster construction, coaching staff construction, philosophical beliefs. You know, as
(16:25):
far as how the game needs to be played. And
I'll tell you to me, he is the true definition
of a CEO when you're talking about a head coach
and what that role really does entail, because he started
off as a special teams coach, right, and then Andy
gave more exposure to defense to kind of round out
his resume a little bit more when he was coaching
there so he could become a head coach. I think
(16:46):
he is someone who you know on the way out
in Baltimore, like, something just doesn't sit well with me
with the way that all went down because of the
role that I know that player accountability plays in team underperformance, right,
And obviously we live in a world in a society
where everyone's looking for I gotta find that guy who
(17:08):
I can hang it on, that guy who I can
put it around his neck, and that guy who I
can hold accountable.
Speaker 9 (17:13):
And there's a lot of.
Speaker 7 (17:14):
People who behind the scenes who sit back and just
kind of go, who will I escape that one?
Speaker 9 (17:19):
Who?
Speaker 7 (17:19):
Well, I escape that There's a lot that went into
that team's underperformance, in my belief, and I think, yeah,
spinning it forward, I love what coach day Ball did
as far as really vouching for Jackson Dart and kind
of selling him to John and obviously ownership up there
is going to give him everything that he needs and
it's a quick trip right up ninety five man for him,
(17:41):
which is super cool. And I think he's gonna do
a hell of a job. I think he's gonna be
recharged and kick it right in the ass like he should.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Was this the best opening in your opinion?
Speaker 7 (17:53):
I think because of the quarterback situation, in the young
pieces situation where if you were like to list the
top five positions on a football team that you needed
to have in place in order to then fill out
everything around it. Yeah, I think when you look at
the fact that you have Jackson Elik coming back, you
have edge pass rushers, you have a guy who can
be a workhorse every down back, he's going to still
(18:15):
need to fix that offensive line and make it something
that becomes more consistent. Yeah, I think there's a lot
of things in place right there.
Speaker 9 (18:21):
Now.
Speaker 7 (18:21):
Obviously, player identification, selection, development, all that stuff has to
still happen.
Speaker 9 (18:29):
But yeah, a lot of the foundation is right there.
It really is.
Speaker 7 (18:33):
And I think, but you know, the Big Blue fan
base is as passionate as there is in football. There's
a lot of alumni who are sitting there going thank you,
thank you, you know, and I think he's going to
have a lot of support behind him and a lot
of wind pushing him along to where I think this
is going to be a spot where now the giants,
Giants are gonna be players again for real.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Let's take out the legacy of the Steelers. Let's just
look at what that roster is.
Speaker 9 (19:00):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
How good a job is this?
Speaker 9 (19:06):
Look? I think the number one.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
Okay, So when you look at how good of a
job is it? If we're talking about excuse me, ownership, structure,
instability plus GM quarterback, all that alignment that really does factor,
and know how good of a job is Look, ownership
quarterback ownership is rock solid. So you know that they're
gonna there's someone who are gonna really try and identify
(19:29):
a person that they think is going to be long
term and they're gonna give them a lot of leeway
in order to kind of learn on the job, just
like they did with Mike, just like they did with
coach Kyleer, just like they did with Chuck Nole. So
I think that obviously makes it attractive immediately number one,
because you know you're gonna have time Number two, you
know you're gonna have time because they don't have a quarterback.
So I think that may knock it down for some
(19:51):
and people are gonna go, well, what the hell they're
gonna do there, Well, that's a great question. Well that's
that's part of the deal. That's why they're kind of
in this situation in the first place. Is kind of
what more war mic out, I believe at the end,
along with a bunch of other things, the fact that
they just couldn't get that position right. But I think
once they figure that out, I think there are some
young pieces on the offensive line.
Speaker 9 (20:11):
I think you have to continue.
Speaker 7 (20:12):
To fill out the wide receiver corps around DK Metcalf
and make sure that that is that is a position
of strength running backs a position of strength. Defense is
aging and in probably a little bit too high priced
for long term sustainability and needs to be revamped and rebooted.
But there's this So there's so many things though, that
will make that place attractive to top level coaches for sure.
(20:34):
And number one is the fact that they're not just
going to turn over coaches at the first sign of
there being some kind of adversity like every like so
many other places do. And that's probably the number one
thing that perspective head.
Speaker 9 (20:48):
Coaches should be looking for.
Speaker 7 (20:50):
How much time is the coach going to give you,
how much I mean, is the owner going to give you?
How much support are they going to give you?
Speaker 9 (20:55):
And then how much suppor are they going to give
you to go out and get the assets that you need.
Speaker 7 (20:59):
Mister Roney will do what he needs to do in
order to get them what they need to get to
make this team successful.
Speaker 9 (21:04):
Simple as that.
Speaker 7 (21:05):
Then it's up to Omar and whoever they pick to
get the job done.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
But you look at certain openings, you got to win now.
In Pittsburgh, it's not just get to the playoffs, you
got to win now. In Baltimore, it's not just get
to the playoffs. Whereas Atlanta, Miami, Cleveland, Arizona, Tennessee, even
the Giants, you get a grace period. You walk into Baltimore,
(21:30):
you better make the playoffs and pick the same way.
Speaker 9 (21:34):
Yeah, you know what's interesting about that.
Speaker 7 (21:35):
I kind of look at those two teams a little
bit different simply because look, in Pittsburgh, you better win now,
simply because Mike's always kept it above water, right, he
was always in the hunt, in the hunt, in the hunt,
but just couldn't get over the top for whatever reason.
Speaker 9 (21:48):
It was whatever you want if you want to pin
it on his scheme.
Speaker 7 (21:51):
Strategy, tactics, lack of quarterback play, whatever you wanted to
pin it on. But the fact is now that one
crucial piece that you know, we'll give you a chance
to win now is not there.
Speaker 9 (22:04):
So there's gonna be need to be an adjustment of
expectations there.
Speaker 7 (22:07):
There just is, and I think and I think mister
Roney will figure like he knows that although he says, hey, look,
this isn't a retool, I mean, this isn't a rebuild. Okay,
you can say that now, but the reality is, what's
your answer then, what's your answer at quarterback at Baltimore?
Speaker 9 (22:25):
I agree with you.
Speaker 7 (22:27):
For sure, you better win now. And I'll tell you what,
I'll even take it a step further. The players that
are there, they're the ones who better make sure that
they win now because one of the reasons why I
think one of the primary reasons why John is not
there is because the player well, there's a number of
(22:49):
different things. One we talked about this being maybe one
of the best rosters in football, et cetera, et cetera
all the time. Eh, this year maybe not. Maybe look
at their front seven and look at how how many
injuries they suffered on the front that really did limit
the things that they could do defensively. But number two,
they're best players. Need to practice, need to hold themselves accountable,
(23:14):
need to be held accountable, need to know the scheme
inside and out, need to be able to execute at
a high level at all times. And those are things
that I'll tell you what. Coaches can only do so much.
They're gonna get a fantastic coach, there's no question about that.
Speaker 9 (23:32):
But the players have to pull their weight. The players
have to.
Speaker 7 (23:35):
Own up, didn't We just heard Jason Kelsey talking about
this the other day with Philadelphia where he was screaming
about the fact that, you know, we can sit there
and we get pin it on Nick Sirianni and Kevin
Patullo and just kick them in the ass all we
want about, Well, their scheme sucks, it's vanilla.
Speaker 9 (23:49):
It's this. It's that. It's just, you know, we get
so far away.
Speaker 7 (23:52):
From sometimes about the fact that you know, I don't
know too many. Look, I've been around some bad coaches
Don't get me wrong, I've been around some coaches and
teach me anything, but by and large, I'm gonna have
some faith in the fact that, you know what, the
NFL is comprised the people who are pretty competent.
Speaker 9 (24:08):
Of their at their job. I was never coached ever.
Speaker 7 (24:13):
To fumble the football, jump off sides, pull someone's face mask,
drop the football, take bad angles to the football, not
wrap up when you're supposed to tackle. I was never
coached to do that kind of stuff. But now as
soon as players don't do that, fire the coach, get
his ass out of it, get someone else, fire the coach.
They're not good, they're not. It's like, hey, if Baltimore
(24:36):
has that good of a roster, like everyone says they do,
then they should be playing a lot better than what
they are. And you're right, they better win next year
right away, no question about it.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Talking to Lewis Riddick of the Mothership, their NFL college
football analyst, what is Aaron Rodgers' football future?
Speaker 7 (24:56):
I would never speak for Aaron Rodgers, but I think
mister he put it bluntly, I think in Pittsburgh it's
probably it's done.
Speaker 9 (25:03):
He said he came here to play for Mike. Mike's gone.
Speaker 7 (25:06):
I think that pretty much closes He didn't say it
closes the door on that, but I think it closed
the door on that.
Speaker 9 (25:12):
I don't I don't know.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
I thought that really was an ideal spot for him.
I thought that he needed Mike, Mike needed him, given
where they were at, you know, as far as Mike
where he was at in his tenure, he probably knew
that that was his last run, and Aaron probably needed
to just go somewhere where he really respected that guy great,
you know, great traditional like blue blood organization and where
(25:34):
he would just play ball, and that's what he did
to the best of visibility. I don't know what where
else you can go to really top that. At this point,
he ain't going to wear his no backup. He's not
going Aaron Aaron, I think we may have seen the
last of them. I don't know, but that would be
my guess.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Give me the road team that wins this weekend.
Speaker 9 (25:55):
Oh boy, I'm not actually trying to think lose on
the road.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Buffalo's in Denver, Houston's in New England, you got the
Niners in Seattle. Rams, I think I think Rams are favored.
Let's let's take them out of this.
Speaker 9 (26:12):
Yeah, and you know what, I think Houston is probably.
Speaker 7 (26:14):
The one that because their defense then is so nasty, physical,
opportunistic and can play in any kind of environment. They're
so mentally tough that I know that people go, well,
there's no way that Houston can keep winning like this
(26:35):
because the CJ can't afford to keep playing like that.
You know, you know what, You're right, and he won't
keep playing like that. I don't believe he'll keep playing
like that.
Speaker 9 (26:44):
Now.
Speaker 7 (26:44):
I love Mike Rabel. I love how he has that
team playing. You talk about connecting with a roster, Holy mo,
I mean the people in Tennessee. I don't know what
happened down there, but I don't know how you didn't
see the unique qualities and skills that this man has
as a head coach unless he developed something in that
(27:04):
year where he was just like, you know what, I
need to tweak this about how I connect with players.
I need to tweak that. And this is gonna make
me so much. He's pushing all the right buttons, man,
all of them, every single one but Dimico Ryans is
a special, special cap and he's got a special defense
that is among the best that I've ever seen. And
(27:27):
I'm talking and I played on a pretty good one too,
on our ninety four team in Cleveland that was one
of the best in scoring defense in history.
Speaker 9 (27:34):
They have got some dudes, and that at this time
of year is a lot of what you need.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Yeah, when you have a team, you have a front
that you don't have to blitz, makes it makes it
a whole lot easier for the secondary. Give me the question,
give me the game that could be a blowout.
Speaker 7 (27:54):
Oh you know what, I really don't. I don't think
any of them will be. I think this there's a
reason why this is considered the best the best weekend
in the NFL in the NFL because I think at
this point, look, there's there's a lot of things that
go into it, right, I think nerves start to play
(28:17):
a factor. I think people get a little bit more tense.
I don't know if one and I and I and
I think that works in both ways. And I don't
think where it's gonna be like one team really just
crafts the bed and this is and just gets blown out,
and then ano and then another and another team just
plays above and beyond what they played all season.
Speaker 9 (28:36):
Long. I don't. I really don't see it that way.
I don't. I am interested to see just.
Speaker 7 (28:44):
How Buffalo is able to overcome the injuries that they
have had on the offensive side of the ball, in
particular wide receiver, especially against the defense like Denver's that is.
Speaker 9 (28:52):
Just so so aggressive and.
Speaker 7 (28:55):
The team that's I would think Sean has them like
tuned up to play at the very highest level and
really ready to rock and roll. The Buffalo doesn't traditionally
get blown out, but that that's a football team that
I think. I think they're gonna play their very best
at this time of year, I really do. I think
Denver is going to hit their stride and we're going
to see the very best of what they have to offer,
(29:18):
because I really do think that Sean Payton's one of
the very best to ever do it.
Speaker 9 (29:22):
Is.
Speaker 7 (29:22):
That's another guy who knows how to push the right
buttons and get his teams to really juice up and
ready to go.
Speaker 9 (29:27):
And I'm a big, big fan of bow Knicks man, who.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Is the quarterback that you got into the postseason and
you realized you were not going to rattle that you
were like, damn.
Speaker 7 (29:40):
Ah, but you weren't going to rattle. Well, there's just
so many There's so many different guys. I mean there's
young guys and there's there's old grizzled Vets who kind
of bend down this lane and down this road. Before
I think Matthew Stafford because of how his season started
and because of.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
All the that you faced when you fold oh that
I faced, like where you were like, boy, this guy
is he's better in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
We're not gonna rattle him. Who was there one guy?
Speaker 9 (30:14):
No, there there wasn't one.
Speaker 7 (30:18):
And really when we got into postseason, I mean the
guys who you know, we faced at that time where
I mean Bledsoe was a rookie, Neil O'Donnell was kind
of like an old grizzled Vett in Pittsburgh. I mean that,
you know what, I would probably say that, I would
say Neil o'donnald simply because of the fact that at
that time that's who our nemesis was. It was the Steelers,
and you couldn't rattle that football team period. I Mean
that team was just like like Tomlin likes to say, now,
(30:40):
nameless great faces, that's what they were. They were just
machines and hell I mean, if you had Greg Lloyd,
Kevin Green, Chad Brown, Lavon Kirk, Carnell Lake, Rod Woodson,
you wouldn't you wouldn't get.
Speaker 9 (30:55):
Rattled either, you know, you wouldn't be worrying about too
much stuff either.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Yeah, but Neil o'donald's not the quarterback that I thought
you were gonna.
Speaker 9 (31:01):
You're right, he's not. He's not. But I think of
the like the team, the guys that we faced back then.
Speaker 7 (31:09):
Look, I think obviously, you know when I was in Oakland,
you knew that you weren't on a rattle elway.
Speaker 9 (31:16):
I mean, he was just and he was roight. He
was just rock. Still.
Speaker 7 (31:18):
You know another guy who kind of liked for me,
who was probably the guy who who I really thought
when we played against him, I thought.
Speaker 9 (31:26):
Damn, this guy is really good. He just doesn't get
enough credit was Mark Brunell. Mark had his height in
Jacksonville early in his early days was a problem. He
was the reincarnation, the literal reincarnation of Steve Young. That's
what he was. And there's nobody who I respect more
than the great Steve Young.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Was it. Keenan mccardelle.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
Yeah, and Jimmy Smith Jimmy Smith that those were good receivers.
Speaker 9 (31:52):
Hey and Kyle Brady, right, I think he.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Was there tight end, yeah.
Speaker 9 (31:56):
And then I think Fred was there Taylor.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Yeah, he was underrated. Fred Taylor underrated.
Speaker 7 (32:05):
Think about those names right there, right, you know, those
are some guys right there, some legit guys. I think
it was Tony Brackens. Tony Brackens are on defense. Donovan
Darius was one of the safeties. They had some guys.
Man Tom Palklin put together a hell of a team
down there, hell of a team.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Great to talk to. You have fun this weekend as always,
thanks for joining Usman Lewis Riddick.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Of the Mothership used to work in the front office
with Washington and Philadelphia. He's a analyst for the Mothership.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
We'll take a break, we'll get to your phone calls.
Coming up.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
RG three will join us, coming up next hour. But
coming up next Lebron James agent Rich Paul walks back
some comments that he made about Austin Reeves and the
Lakers after this.

Dan Patrick, Rich Paul Clutch sports Lebron James agent, an
agent to a lot of players. But as a podcast
(33:35):
with Max Kellerman and he had he also is is
he married to Adele?
Speaker 3 (33:42):
Are they just still dating or they engaged? I they're involved.
I know they're involved, Yes, Paul.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
I have dating since twenty twenty one and engaged since
August twenty twenty four.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Back to you, I love Adele, Hello gas something she's
kind of She's great. Yeah, she is great, beautiful, great
voice and I got a great sense of humor. Now
back to her boyfriend, her fiance, Rich Paul. On his
podcast with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul was talking about
(34:14):
what he thinks the Lakers should do and he said, Hey,
you know what, they should go get Jaron Jackson junior,
the defensive player of the Year with the Memphis Grizzlies,
and maybe you could give them some picks, or you
could give them, you know, some players, and how about
Austin Reeves. Well, the kind of follow up to that
(34:35):
is Lebron finds out about it, and I think says
something to Rich Paul about what are you doing? He's
my teammate, and then Austin Reeves is agent I think
had something to say to Rich Paul as well. So
Rich Paul then followed up on the podcast and had
this to say about the situation.
Speaker 10 (34:56):
First of all, if you watched the show, this was
a hypothetical conversation we were having if I was running
a team, not this is what's gonna happen, etc. Secondly,
I believe it's very complementary two ar because he's on
a team with two future Hall of Famers and he
(35:17):
happens to be the asset. Does does not mean you
want somebody to be traded And there's some insider information
in the locker room and this is not a Lebron thing.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Okay, First of all, Rich, it is hypothetical because you're
not running the Lakers. You don't have to tell me
that it's hypothetical. We know you're not well, you might
be running the Lakers, but not like officially, and it's
coming from you, and your number one client is Lebron James, Like,
you have to be aware of this. You can't go wait,
(35:49):
what if people are reading into this it was hypothetical.
You're Lebron James's agent. Do you think Lebron has had
conversations with his agent about hey.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
What would you do? What do you think we should do?
Speaker 2 (36:01):
I'm going to guess the answer is yes, not a hypothetical,
probably a yes. You know what, Austin Reeve's gonna want
fifty million dollars a year. You got to get a
rimp protector. You know, you got to get a big
guy in there. You know what I would do. I'd
say to management, just you know, let's get rid of
Austin Reeves so you don't have to pay me. Bring
(36:22):
in Jaron Jackson. Like that sounds like it's more than hyperbole.
Speaker 6 (36:29):
Yes, and also Lebron, I guess, has a history of
getting people traded, So I.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Guess hypothetically, hypothetically, yeah.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
So if I'm Austin Reeves and his agent. No, I
hear you. They MC MANHIMU reported it. He was like
he went up to him during the Hawks game, like
what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (36:52):
Yeah? Yeah, I mean Rich Paul's got to be aware.
Come on, Yeah, it's.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Like when chef goes on and then he starts to
kind of speculate. Well, it doesn't end up as you're
just kind of speculating. It's a report, and Rich Paul
being a powerful agent, Lebron's agent, they're in Los Angeles?
Are you trying to tell me you and your client
(37:19):
haven't had conversations about how to make the Lakers better
in what is going to be probably your last year.
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Come on, yeah, Pauline, what if Marvin and I brought
up trading Austin Reeves? That would be a hypothetical lie.
We have no say in the matter and no one
would react to it. But again, like you said, if
you're Lebron James's agents, you have to know that if
you say this, people are going to put it together,
especially NBA reporters looking for juicy morsels before the trade deadline.
(37:47):
You have to and this guy's really smart. I mean,
he's a great business man. But you have to realize
that you.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
Got to be aware and read the room of how
they're going to read into this. I mean, if you're
Lebron's warmer agent, than you're fine, Or if you're Austin
reeves is agent, then you're fine. You're Lebron's agent. Lebron's
still trying to figure out where he fits in. When
Austin Reeves comes back with Luca, this might be your
(38:15):
last year. They put a patch on their jerseys for
your client. Lebron wants to win another championship, obviously, how
can we get closer? How about we trade for Jaren
Jackson Junior and we give up Austin Reeves. That means
it's Lebron and Luca. Those are the two guys scoring.
(38:36):
You got a great rim protector in Jaron Jackson Junior. Okay,
that's not a big leap update the poll results if
you can, Seaton, I can you know this all reminds
me a lot by the way of you and Mike
Tomlin and the USC job.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
Again, It's like I didn't say that you were going
to take the job, of just saying USC is interested
in you as a head coach, and I okay.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
But I did make the mistake though, because I even
heard somebody yesterday on a show saying, what about Tomlin
if he decided to go to USC? And I smacked
my forehead. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. All
I was telling you is USC had a long list of,
you know, possible candidates that they would be interested in.
(39:26):
But I still made the mistake because of my voice.
And I say this, now, somebody doesn't hear all the
other stuff, the ancillary stuff where I said he there's
no sign that he's interested in USC. I'm telling you
USC is interested in Mike Tomlin. Like that was the
coaching search. They were looking at everybody before they brought
(39:46):
in Lincoln Rhydy.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
That was it.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
But you know, I have to own that and take
that blame. Maybe one day Mike Tomlin will come on
the show and I'll say, Mike, I'm sorry about the
USC thing.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
Yes, Martin, but you're not Mike Tomlins agent. No, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
But I am a Hall of Famer. You don't seem
impressed by that.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Yes, I would rather be a starter at Nebraska or
a backup into Oregon. That's a man. Seventy three percent
have it as a starter at Nebraska, and is John
Harbaugh in a better football situation now than he was
a month ago? Sixty two percent say.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
No, no, he's not.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Boomer Asiasin is going to join us. Coming up top
of the hour, RG three will join us as well.
PAULI still doesn't believe that those people would rather be
the starting quarterback at Nebraska instead of the backup quarterback
at Oregon.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
If you're in Nebraska, there hasn't been a Nebraska quarterback
taken in the first six rounds of the draft since
Vince Ferragamo in nineteen seventy four.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Ooh, Dylan Ryola had very.
Speaker 5 (40:53):
Little chance in the current trajectory of his career to
make the NFL at Nebraska. You're go to Oregon, you
sit for a year of the red shirt, get paid,
you get a chance to start next year. That's their
plan and his plan. It could change, of course, But
worked for BOONI, worked for Dylan Gabriel. It's working for Dylan,
Dylan Moore, Dante Dante Moore. It's working very well.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
Two hours in the books, one more to go, Boomera
sis In in about ten minutes from now. More of your
phone calls as well, Fritzy Seat and Marv Paula, Yours
truly
