Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final Hour.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
On this Monday, Dan and the Dance Dan Patrick's show
morale was high, at least on my end up in Maine,
my vacation home, and thank you for all the reaction.
We tried to come up with the usual look, the
familiar look that we have in the regular man cave,
but the gang's all here ready to go. I guess
I don't know what you need to do to become

(00:26):
an official manor, but maybe a license plate. But Todd
did give me an Infuego license plate that is from
the state of Maine, and not sure where I put that.
Can't put it on my car because it's just something
that Todd ordered. But it's a very nice gesture on
your part. Todd, Thank you, Thanks you welcome.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Are you considering going to like the DMV or whatever
and making that your official personalized plate since the one
I sent you is just kind of a conversation piece.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
A souvenir piece. Yes, I probably shouldn't have said anything
on the show if I was going to go.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
To someone's gonna grab it and hold it basm.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Yes, yes, but beautiful this part of the country able
to do some fishing over the weekend, some trout and
some salmon and largemouth bass. Any keepers, I don't keep them,
I throw them back. I say hello and then I
say goodbye. Get a picture, and then I went to
a shooting range. Because I mentioned this in the first hour,

(01:28):
friend of mine has the same type of gun that
John Wick uses, and I thought, well, that's content conversation piece.
I had no idea what I was doing, no idea
where you put your thumbs. Don't put it behind Oh no, no, no,
because you could you could snap off your thumb and
you know, you put on the noise canceling headphones that

(01:50):
don't cancel every noise. And there was somebody shooting I
think an elephant gun next to me. It was so
loud it was like boom. But yeah, I got the
john Wick handgun and was able to kind of channel
my inner Keanu reeves. So it's been great, a lot

(02:10):
of fun and try to do some shows up here periodically.
Eight seven seven three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle it DP show. Albert Breer, the Monday morning quarterback,
will join us coming up a little bit. He's at
Jets camp and get his thoughts on some of the
things over the weekend, and are the Jets should we

(02:32):
be giving them the credit that we're giving them or
the coverage we're giving them, because you know, depending on
who you talk to, it's like, oh, this team is
going to be really good, too, could be a train wreck.
They do have talent, that defense is going to be
high end, and it's weird to say it may come
down to Aaron Rodgers how good he plays. But you know,

(02:53):
trying to react or not overreact to preseason football is
always a tightrope because going Caleb Williams, he had one
throw that was great to Roama Dunza. I don't know
if he had a great game, but sometimes that's what
happens preseason. You're not watching the game, You'll watch the
highlights that'll be on Sports Center. Bo Nicks now Bow

(03:15):
Knicks to me, looks more comfortable than any other quarterback
so far. That may not mean anything because Denver is
not very good. Jaden Daniels is probably gonna rush for
eight hundred yards this year, maybe more. He's fun. Here's
the problem with Jayden Daniels is I don't want him
rushing for eight hundred yards because he is thin, and

(03:40):
I just don't want him out there. You know, we
saw this with RG three. I think they're similar builds.
I don't want my quarterback out there running as much
as RG three did eight seven seven to three DP
show email address dpat Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle the
DP show. Another thing that I would factor in is
bo Nix's twenty four twenty four, he should be maybe

(04:05):
the most ready. The number of games he's played that
he was the starting quarterback at Auburn, starting quarterback at Oregon.
He's played a lot of games, and he should be
ready for whatever Sean Payton throws his way. But we
do overreact. Another thing with the Bears. They weren't a
bad team last year. They get the number one pick,

(04:26):
they're in the Hall of Fame game, they're on hard knocks.
It just feels like we're being force fed the Bears
and it just doesn't happen that quickly. Now, that doesn't
mean they won't be really good at the end of
the year, because this could be sort of a Detroit
Lions type feel of a couple of years ago when
I thought they were going to be a playoff team,

(04:47):
and I think they lost their first seven games and
then at the end of the year we saw them
be really, really competitive, and that might be what the
Bears are this year. All right, pull question for the
final hour this program is going to be what seedon
so happy you asked, Dan, let me update you we
have up there. Would you rather quarter back the Vikings
or the Raiders? Right now?

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Seventy six percent of the audience would rather quarter back
the Vikings. However, when you say who has a better season,
Sam Darnold or Gardner Minshew. Right now, Gardner Minshew has
just fifty point two percent.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Of the vote.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
Okay, this has got to be the closest poll question
we've ever had.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
This is incredible.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
It is truly a remarkable day, first day back for vacation.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
What yes, what yeah? Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
We also have the best northern New England state.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Right now.

Speaker 5 (05:39):
Maine has fifty three percent of the vote, followed by
Vermont at thirty percent.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
In New Hampshire. Not a lot of love. Wow yeah
yeah wow, early results on this one.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
Yes, Paul, Maine does seem like somewhere you aspire to
visit because it's so far away from most people. Whether
you're Midwest southern even if you live in the northeast.
Main's a bit to get to. It feels like an
idyllic place that you would like to visit when you're
even once in your life.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yeah, it sounds like wow, Maine because it's removed. You know,
it's a it's a at the far end of the map,
but you know, and Stephen King is up here too,
writing novels. Yes, yes, morv.

Speaker 7 (06:19):
On the license plate it says vacation land. Yeah and
yeah living here in Connecticut. I never went to Maine,
and it taws me about twenty eight and then I
saw why. I was like, I could live here.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, it's beautiful.

Speaker 7 (06:31):
I'm gonna build a house right next to you.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
No, just stay with me, well all right, yeah, just
don't take me.

Speaker 8 (06:39):
The big german. The big germans staying with me? Oh weah,
like a slumber party.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yes, what are you doing? Trying to be a long move? Yeah, Todd,
do you want to come up?

Speaker 4 (06:50):
I was just gonna ask, can I stand the guests?
You don't want me there? I talked to I love.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
I would love to see you outdoors, going fishing, in
on the boat. Oh, absolutely, And I put the sticker
on my anchorman. You know that we were voting on
what was the best name for my pontoon boat. So
I put the an actual the anchor picture of an
anchor and then says, man on it. I'm tooling around

(07:16):
on the lake going really slow.

Speaker 9 (07:20):
It is.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
I'm not very good at it, not very good, not
at all. Do you have like a co pilot?

Speaker 6 (07:27):
You don't like when you get your license as a pilot,
like an airplane pilot, sometimes you have the flight instructor
with you the first couple of times.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Nope, you can you need a co pilot. Well, I've
had people they love to volunteer. They want to tell
me about fishing, about hunting, they want to tell me
about piloting my boat. And I take all the information
I can. I appreciate that they maybe I look like
I need help, and they've been they've been giving it

(07:55):
to me. But you know, once again, I'm an outdoorsman
and you guys, aren't I get that from here? And
and the number of people say wicked, Oh yeah, wicked, Yeah,
I got he's he's a wicked smart And then it'd
be like, oh, he's he's a wicked good dude, I'm
I don't think I'll ever get to the point where
I'll be able to go wicked. But if I do,

(08:18):
then you'll know that I'm a true maner.

Speaker 10 (08:21):
All right, let me see T is so good? Yeah, yeah,
heck yeah, it's wicked good yeah, wicked Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Let me get a couple of phone calls in here.
Kevin in Pennsylvania, Kevin, thank you for holding what's on
your mind?

Speaker 9 (08:40):
Hey, good morning, Dan, six to one in an athletic
two to one. Hey, I'm calling from Hershey, and have
a best and worst of the weekend, which come from
the same event. My best is actually watching and being
entertained by last evening's national broadcast of the world famous
Harlem Globetrotters versus Washington General's rivalry. And my worst, as
a former player for the Generals, is witnessing another loss

(09:02):
for these guys. I mean, since their last win occurred
in nineteen seventy one, the last second shot, but my
former boss Red clots one an upset and create a
talking point to your well listened to sports Emmy nominated show.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Okay, how many losses did you suffer through? Kevin?

Speaker 9 (09:21):
It was in the hundreds.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Did they get up the set if you guys tried
too hard.

Speaker 9 (09:31):
Well, if who were making our shots? I didn't they
put a stop for it. We had a hot shooting night.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Did you ever beat the Globetrotters?

Speaker 9 (09:42):
Absolutely not.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Yeah, all right, well keep your head up, Kevin. Yeah,
you're not alone with the Washington Generals.

Speaker 7 (09:53):
Yes, Marv random over vacation, I saw the Globe Trotters
play the Generals at American Dream. Remember we're talking about
the Arena Football League, and it's right there, like, oh,
there's the there's Popeyes, there's the Pandemic Express.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
They played in the mall in Jersey.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
Yeah, we're walking by.

Speaker 7 (10:12):
We're coming back from actually hershey, and oh, let's go
by there and we see them.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Oh, I just wanted to grab something to eat. Oh,
they're playing.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
It is wild.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
The fact that they played.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Panera bread and looking at a basketball game.

Speaker 7 (10:28):
An arena football game was played at that same spot. Unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Somebody that was a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 7 (10:35):
They got killed by the Auntie Anne's Pretzel spot.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
By the way, speaking of basketball, Caitlyn Clark now has
the rookie record the history of the w NBA, as
she's now going to try to set the all time record,
but twelve games to go. Now, this is happening exactly
how I scripted it. I told you this is going.
They loaded up the schedule, front end, front loaded Caitlyn

(11:03):
Clark on a bad team, you know, the worst team,
because they drafted her number one. They were going to
load up against better competition. And she'd played an entire
college basketball season and she didn't play well. And I
said at the time she didn't deserve to be on
the Olympic team. And at the time I felt that,

(11:25):
but she got rest, the schedule not as demanding. And
now you're seeing Caitlyn Clark. And for everybody who talked about, oh,
you know, she's just a shooter, she's going She's already
set the all time rookie assist record for somebody who's
the greatest scorer in college basketball history, and she is

(11:45):
an increased See that's I think that was lost on
a lot of people. Her ability to be able to
find the open person, it's something that you're born with.
And you know, if you're one of her teammates and
she's coming in and I said at the time, she
will try to ingratiate herself as a teammate by passing
first instead of shooting first. And that's exactly what's happened.

(12:09):
And she's played incredibly well. They've played incredibly well. And
I know we want to make this the rookie of
the Year debate. Angel Reese is a wonderful player. She
just had twenty rebounds. She's a double double guarantee. Absolutely,
But anybody who tries to sell you on this is
selling you on something to get clicks. That's all this is.

(12:34):
This is a phenomenon. Caitlyn Clark is a phenomenon. And
if I said to any of these people who think
Caitlyn Clark is not the rookie of the Year, I'd say,
who would you want to start your franchise with. Now,
I'm not going to put Asia Wilson in there. I'm
just saying between these two, Angel Reese is a wonderful player,
but she does not compare to what and who Caitlin

(12:57):
Clark is when she's on the basketball floor playing simple.
But we want to make it a debate, and I
think that that's just to get clicks. And look, Angel Reese,
there's nothing that she does where you go did you
see her other than she plays really, really hard, and
I liken her game to Moses Malone. Moses Malone was relentless.

(13:17):
So it's not that I don't appreciate who she is
or how she plays. There is no one, no one
like Caitlin Clark in the history of the WNBA. I mean,
you had somebody who was the all time leading scorer
in college basketball history who plays for Las Vegas, and
nobody talked about her. Nobody talked about Kelsey wonderful player,

(13:42):
Nobody talked about her. Caitlin Clark is just different. And
you saw that yesterday again they beat a good team
and she was great. But her ability to get her
teammates involved is what's going to stand out to me
with the rookie season, to remind you of just how
great she is seeing the floor, yes.

Speaker 6 (14:02):
And how much does the WNBA like it. The Indiana
Fever look like they're going to make the playoffs. They've
been winning. They're in the seventh spot right now. If
the playoffs were now, the first round would be Connecticut
Sun versus Indiana Fever.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
And that's pretty good. That will play nashally well. That
was the first game of the season of her career. Yeah,
it was against Connecticut. Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 7 (14:20):
And next season the WNBA All Star Game is going
to be in Indianapolis.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Is that a good thing? I don't Paulie said, no, I.

Speaker 6 (14:30):
Didn't think you needed to do it. The Clark goes
wherever the All Star Game is. You didn't need to
necessarily have You don't need to grow the game in Indiana.
Right now, they're all they're all good in Indianapolis with
the state of the WNBA. I've taken Caitlin Clark and
brought her to another city, whatever it may be. And
I know it's an easy it's a layup, no pun

(14:50):
to have it Indiana. They're going to get a monster turnout.
But I'd rather have her on the road, bringing her
game and everyone else's game to another city.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
Todd in Maryland. Before we take a break, Albert Breer
will join us. He's at the Jets training camp. Hey Todd,
what's on your mind today? How you doing?

Speaker 9 (15:06):
VP? Six?

Speaker 11 (15:10):
I'm calling to talk about this. The given name excuse me,
that I share with my boy Fritzy in the back,
so it derives from an old English word meaning fox.
What it shouldn't mean is weirdo, pervert, something like that.
Because have you ever seen or heard of a good
Todd in any television show or movie? Now, it's always

(15:35):
it's Todd Flanders, It's Todd the neighbor on Chris's vacation,
It's Todd from wedding Crashers, Fritzy, You and I have
been cursed with this name. So country, blessings, Paul Dan
Seeking whatever your actual first name is.

Speaker 12 (15:51):
Marvin, I don't know, Marvin.

Speaker 11 (15:53):
You're all along the lines with us, but that's all
I had to say.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Dp he thank you Ton, Thank you Ton. Yeah that
wasn't very encouraging. Yeah. I haven't really given a deep
dive on the name Todd. And do you guys play
bad people? Creeps?

Speaker 5 (16:10):
I don't know, Marto, what happened to the carpet Todd whatever?

Speaker 2 (16:16):
As Paul, I.

Speaker 6 (16:17):
Did find an article Hollywood's War against Todd's ten Bad
Todds and movies and TV shows. They said that the
name is often used for dislikable, unlikable characters. I found
an article about it.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Let me take a break because I would like to
explore this a little bit. Albert Brewer is going to
join us, but he'll understand if we go to him
a little bit later on does Hollywood have it out
for people named Todd? That's next on the Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 1 (16:44):

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Well.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Talk to Albert Breer here in a moment joining us
from Judge Camp. The Monday Morning Quarterback, Paully stumbled on
something after we had a caller. Todd called in and
said that basically Hollywood has a vendetta for a characters
named Todd and what'd you find out, PAULI?

Speaker 6 (17:42):
Yeah, I found about four or five articles saying that
it appears as a trend in Hollywood with movies and
TV shows that they tend to tag an unlikable character
with the name Todd. And they've got a lot of
different examples, you know, like Todd from Na Nation, Lumpoon's Christmasfication,
remember Todd and Margo, the next Door Neighbors, Todd Cleary,

(18:04):
the Sun, the Annoying Sun, and wedding Crashers. They give
lots of different examples. And I found four articles that
talked about this.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Hmm. So there is there's some truth that Hollywood has
it out for people named Todd.

Speaker 6 (18:16):
Yeah, that's a it's a go to name for characters
they want to but the joke type characters.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Well, remember Bill Murray's character in Saturday Night Live. He
was Todd with Gilda Radner. What is his name? Todd
di Lamuca?

Speaker 5 (18:33):
Is that the what a bewitching scent you're wearing? What
a bewitching cent you're wearing?

Speaker 2 (18:39):
What is that? Vic's Vapo rub Todd Todd? All right,
Albert Brier is joining us. He, of course, is the
Monday Morning quarterback. So he's really important covering the NFL
joining us from Jets Camp Albert, thanks for joining us.
Is all the media attention warranted with the New York

(19:00):
Jets than Aaron Rodgers?

Speaker 14 (19:02):
Can I seal that?

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I mean it.

Speaker 15 (19:06):
Is interesting how that the organization here really attracts that,
you know, and and the Cowboys have been that way
forever obviously, like where it's like almost just because it's
the Cowboys, certain things become a circus.

Speaker 14 (19:21):
Like the CD LAMB thing.

Speaker 15 (19:22):
In Dallas seems like it's like five times bigger than
if it was anywhere else, you know what I mean,
And the Jets seem to have It's not the same,
but a similar sort of effect as far as how
like stories just get amplified here, you know, even like
versus the Giants. Like if some of the things that
were happening with the Jets were happening with the Giants,
I think a lot of us would like brush them

(19:43):
off as no big.

Speaker 16 (19:43):
Deal, you know.

Speaker 15 (19:45):
In reverse, like if Daniel Jones through the interceptions that
he's through this weekend as a New York Jet, we'd
probably digest that differently too, That makes sense.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Yeah, Yeah, you can't throw pick six. If you're Daniel Jones,
I mean, oh you can't. I mean, come on, come on,
I mean, it's it's just disaster waiting to happen here.
Brian Dabeles is how hot is the seat that he's
on right now with the Giants?

Speaker 14 (20:12):
You know, it's it's interesting, Dan.

Speaker 15 (20:14):
I think back to, you know, when Joe Judge got fired,
and I remember, you know, talking to people in the
weeks and even the months leading up to that, and
when it started to look like Joe could be on
shaky ground. The response I got was the Giants were
really embarrassed by where they were as a franchise, and.

Speaker 14 (20:35):
They didn't want to have.

Speaker 15 (20:38):
The indignity of having had three coaches in a row
go to and out right, So Ben McAdoo twoing out,
a Patch Sturmer towing out, and then Joe Judge twoing out,
and things just got so bad at the end that
they had to pull the plug on everything and start
over again. And yeah, I know, it was really embarrassing

(20:59):
for the Mares, the tissues because they always view themselves
as this gold standard franchise, like the East Coast version
of Steelers stability personified, right, like all that different stuff,
and turning over coaches at that rate, and getting it
wrong at that rate, and lacking an identity really got
under their skin. And so I don't think that they

(21:23):
want to start over, you know. And I think even
if this there were some bumps this year, I think
they still liked the direction that Brian Dabole and Joe
Shane have have put them on, and so I think,
I personally think it would have to be really bad
for those guys to.

Speaker 14 (21:39):
Be in trouble, you know.

Speaker 15 (21:40):
I you know, I think that they like the foundation.
They feel like they've started to fix the lines of
scrimmage with guys like Andrew Thomas, Evan Neil on offense,
and obviously, you know, defensively, you look at some of
the names there, cave On, Thibodeau, Dexter, Lawrence, Brian Burns,
and they always knew it was going to take time
to rebuild, even if they had had that big breakthrough

(22:01):
in year one.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Talking to Albert Breer the Monday morning quarterback joining us
from Jets camp, the Viking situation with JJ McCarthy, yep,
I keep reading that, you know he's going to need
surgeries out for the year. But there was no one
play where he may have injured himself. How does that happen?

Speaker 14 (22:21):
It's a wear and tear injury the meniscus. It's I
hate to put it.

Speaker 15 (22:26):
This way, It's like maybe the type of injury that
you and I would might suffer from from jogging too much.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
But is this a spillover from Michigan? Like there?

Speaker 15 (22:36):
I mean, like so, I actually I was actually curious
about that, so I did dig into it a little
bit night.

Speaker 14 (22:41):
I asked some teams that I.

Speaker 15 (22:42):
Knew really would have investigated JJ McCarthy and the idea
of of drafting him, And I asked if there were
any red flags medically, you know, after he went through
the combine and everything else, And the answer I got
back was no.

Speaker 14 (22:56):
Now again, generally, this is a wear and tear injury.

Speaker 15 (22:59):
This isn't something we're something pops, you know, like Achilles
pops and acl pops.

Speaker 14 (23:04):
It's not really like that. So, I mean, I think
if there is.

Speaker 15 (23:10):
A silver lining here, and to me there are two.
One it's that by going in and repairing it, in
no likelihood it's not going to be a problem again. Right,
So if you trim and if it was a less
serious one, yes, you get him back this year, but
there's always the potential that you're going to have to
go in and do a repair at some point. The
number two is sort of and I think the Vikings
were going to be disciplined about this anyway, but it

(23:32):
sort of forced them to give them a redshirt year.
And I don't think that's a bad thing, you know,
I think any the quarterback can benefit from that. Now,
JJ was ahead of schedule developmentally from where they thought
he'd be, and he looked really good, look decisive, accurate, athletic,
you know, and that that preseason open against the Raiders.

(23:53):
But I do you know know that Kevin O'Connell and
West Phillips and Josh McCown and the offensive staff there
really feel like there's going to be a big benefit
to JJ McCarthy and getting to sit and watch Sam
Darnold go through a full NFL season, see the ups
and downs, you know, before you know they hope becoming
the starter in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
What's the proper reaction to Caleb Williams and bow Nick's
performance is this past weekend.

Speaker 15 (24:22):
So I think it's fair to expect both those guys
to be ahead of schedule for different reasons, right, So
with Caleb, it's because they had the benefit the Bears
did of having the number one overall pick and knowing
that he was going to be their selection.

Speaker 14 (24:35):
I'd say they.

Speaker 15 (24:37):
Really knew at the combine right that the Caleb Williams
was going to be the guy, and so that allowed
them creatively to start ramping them up. And they actually
have a story going up on the site today about
all of this and like what they did creatively to
get him ready to go.

Speaker 14 (24:52):
They were installing the offense with him in March and April.

Speaker 15 (24:54):
So when they went out to usc for the pro day,
when they had the thirty visit, when they brought him in,
it had the you know, three one hour zooms that.

Speaker 14 (25:02):
Are allowed pre draft.

Speaker 15 (25:04):
They were putting in formations, they were putting in terminology,
they were putting in cadence. The thirty visit, they taught him,
you know, how to call play in a huddle because
that's something he hadn't had a lot of experience with.
That that allowed them to hit the ground running with
him when he reported for Rookie Mini Camp in May
and then when he went away for the forty days
between spring and summer, he took some big jumps because

(25:27):
they worked with his personal quarterbacks coach to give him
a program for that period of time. So by the
time he got back, like I had, one coach there
told me, it really looked like pro football, you know,
And that's a big thing for a rookie, especially one
coming from the sorts of offenses that Caleb Williams has
played in. So I think the Bears, Bears fans should
be excited about what they saw because of the situation

(25:48):
he's in, throwing.

Speaker 14 (25:49):
A Keenan Allen and Dj Moore and Romadnze and.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
The problem that they need to be less excited. In Chicago,
they're too excited. I think spectation level is like how
far are we going in the playoffs?

Speaker 15 (26:04):
You know, right?

Speaker 2 (26:04):
And we get to the They're a.

Speaker 15 (26:06):
Tough division too, I mean Detroit look like who's the world?
I mean, is Minnesota gonna finish last in that division?
And Minnesota's a really good team, you know what I mean,
Like that's a Kevin O'Connell's done a fantastic job there.

Speaker 14 (26:18):
I mean, I think Green Bay's got a.

Speaker 15 (26:19):
Shot, a shot to make a real run at unseating Detroit,
and I think Detroit is one of the three or
four best teams in football, you know, so it's going
to be a tough road to hole in that division.
As for Denver bo Nicks, I would be this is
going to sound like, I don't want this to sound insulting.
I would be alarmed if he didn't look good after
sixty one starts in college. He's supposed to look good,

(26:42):
you know. Like that's the benefit of taking a guy
who has a historic amount, who got a historic amount
of playing time in college, is that he should look ready.
He started, he was a multi year starter at two
different schools, He went through the ups and downs, he
played in different offenses.

Speaker 14 (26:59):
He should be prepared as damn near any quarterback who's
ever come out of college based on the amount that
he played.

Speaker 15 (27:04):
And so, you know, I think it's good that he's
that that that it does look the way that it does,
but that's sort of what we should expect. He's a
good fit for Sean Payton's offense. And I think the
one thing that's like a really obvious but notable if
you watch the Broncos preseason games, the offense moves when
he's in there. You know, and that's a simple thing,

(27:25):
but it means it's an efficient operation when he's in there,
and that's going to allow you to get buy in from.

Speaker 14 (27:30):
Other players in the locker room.

Speaker 15 (27:32):
And so, you know, like I would be less worried
about where bo Nicks is in year one, in year two,
what I'd be more concerned about is where he is
in year four and year five, where it's like, I
have a lot.

Speaker 14 (27:44):
Of confidence he's gonna be able to play at a
competent NFL level fast.

Speaker 15 (27:48):
The question is when it comes time to pay a
guy like that fifty or sixty million dollars a year,
is he going to be able to level up to
the point where you're going to be, you know, ready
and happy about doing that.

Speaker 14 (27:58):
That that's the part I think people are less are.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
About speaking of money. Brandon Nayuk story seems to have
calmed down. What's that mean to you?

Speaker 14 (28:07):
Well, I mean, if it's quiet, that's I'd say that's
good news for the Niners and good news for a Yuk, right.

Speaker 15 (28:12):
Like you know, I think this really comes down at
least part of it, to the to the the the
interpersonal relationship between Nayuk and the Niners people. Things got
pretty sideways there for a little bit. And I think
part of it was, you know, where the receiver market
had gone and and where some of the other guys

(28:35):
who got paid this offseason were, and so, you know,
I I think, you know, like the Niners had reached
the point of frustration where they were like, all right, dude, like, well,
if you think that there's some there's a place out
there where you can match the money and our football situation,
go find it, and we're we will reopen talks with
other teams about doing a trade.

Speaker 14 (28:56):
And so he goes out and you.

Speaker 15 (28:58):
Know, New England offers him, I mean two separate types
of deals, both at over thirty million per but he
didn't want to go there because the football situation. He
liked the football situation better in Pittsburgh. But Pittsburgh offered
around I think it was twenty seven to seven, which
is not much more than the Niners offered. So does
a guy who's been does a guy who's been like
on the West Coast his entire life, grew up in California,

(29:21):
I went to school in Arizona, plays his pro in California.
Does he want to uproot and move across the country
for a worse football situation for just a little bit.

Speaker 14 (29:28):
More money, you know.

Speaker 15 (29:30):
So I think the Niners have reached the point of
frustration with the handling of this. But they always loved
him as a player. Kyle always wanted him as a player.
And if you look at where they are right now,
George Kittle's gotten older, Deebo Samuel's got mileage on his body,
Christian McCaffrey's got mileage on his body. If you're going
to pay Brock Purdy a year from now, well who

(29:51):
are you pairing him with for the next five years?
I used the most logical answer, So think you know,
when this thing got a little bit messy, the reason
the Niners allowed him to go talk to other teams
was to try to, you know, sort of break the
stalemate and drive a conclusion, whether that was trading him
away or keeping him on a long term deal. I

(30:12):
think the hope was that they'd be able to bury
the hatchet and get a long term deal, and that
could happen. Now, I think a lot of that is
going to be dependent on whether or not a Yuk
and the Niners can get themselves past some of the
acrimony of the last few weeks, but I don't think
the money parts is hard to figure out as maybe

(30:32):
it was a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Play nice today with the Jets. Great to talk to
you is always thank you.

Speaker 14 (30:38):
Thanks for your help too on the interviewing stuff. I
appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
I'm always here for you, Albert, Thanks DV Breer. If
I'm a Niner fan, I feel pretty good because a
couple of weeks ago I probably didn't feel too good
that you were going to lose Brandon Nyuk, but it
feels like maybe maybe you hold on to him. Maybe
it's a one year uh maybe still once out, but

(31:03):
it kind of felt like maybe there's a resolution there
or the possibility.

Speaker 11 (31:08):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
Eric and Wisconsin. Good morning, Eric, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 17 (31:13):
Hey, good morning, DP, had you and the guys.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Everything's good, DP.

Speaker 17 (31:19):
I gotta take Armorage with with with your take or
take the cart now.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Okay, I agree that she's.

Speaker 17 (31:26):
That she's phenomenal, but you know, you talking words about
greatness and you put there on the Mount Rushmore sounds right.
You talk about Cencil Cooper seeing the tongs and other
Houston comments. The ladies who came before and paid the way.
You know, I'm not this takements clark uh statue and ability,

(31:48):
but I'm just you know, you know, DP, And I'm
not getting really sistent, But if her skin tone was
a little different, would the same armist be given to her?
I just want to hear, well.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Okay, Eric, hold on? What what skin color of Steph Curry?

Speaker 17 (32:06):
Oh okay, Steph Kerry's black?

Speaker 2 (32:09):
I know, but we embraced him like you make it
seem like if that if Caitlyn Clark was black, that
we wouldn't appreciate her game.

Speaker 17 (32:20):
What I'm saying, DT is Caitlin Clark was truly Tana
Thompson and Simpton Cooper c d. You are a history
of sports, period, point blank, on all levels. But he
gonna tell me that Tina, that sensive Cooper was not
as significant player as Caitlyn Clark.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
And why did she don't know? Eric? I never said
I'm not here to say that Cynthia Cooper wasn't great,
Shamik Wah holds Claw. I mean, we can go down
the list of this. I can take you back to
Cheryl Miller. Caitlin Clark was famous height in college, famous

(33:02):
Cynthia Cooper was a wonderful player in college, but she
didn't have this fandom that has followed her. There's nobody
like her. There has been nobody like her previously. Now,
for whatever reason you want to attach to it, I
just look at it and say, if she's black and

(33:23):
she's shooting from thirty five feet and having unbelievable passes,
we would probably say, oh, that's right, Steph Curry, that's
exactly you know who we would make that compare. She's
a better passor than Steph Curry. Steph Curry is just
the greatest shooter of all time. Has nothing to do
with color. It's style. She was shooting from a place

(33:45):
that nobody had shot before. I mean even men weren't
shooting there in college, and she created this phenomenon. That's
all this is. She's different because she has created something
that nobody else is. Diana Tarassi, Sue Byrd, Brianna Stewart,

(34:07):
like they're all decorated, they didn't have this style. That's it.
And if you want to liken it to a boy
band where you say, well, okay, there's this outpouring of
love and support admiration, then that's what you have. You
have a young audience that has fallen in love with

(34:27):
her and her style. The way she plays it has
nothing to do with race, at least in what I'm saying.
And all of the predecessors, all of those who came before. Yes,
we've acknowledged that she's different than all of them because
she moves the needle. People tune in, the numbers, don't lie.

(34:48):
Wherever she goes, people show up. Let's not make it
something more than what it is. Back after this.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show week days and now am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Some people have already suggested that we call this the
Main Cave instead of the Man Cave. I'm all for them. Yeah,
do you get that, Todd, You should have come up
with it.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
I really should have. That's very clever. I like that.
The Main Cave is perfect where you.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Are, the Main Cave. Yes, absolutely. Oh. By the way,
the old course at Saint Andrew's, where golf first started,
plays host to the last major of the year, a
chance for the Beast and women's golf to achieve greatness.
The AIG Women's Open coming up this next weekend. Let
me see Lincoln in Maine. Hi, Lincoln, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 16 (35:41):
Hey? GP, how you doing today? I'm calling me up
to welcome you the Maine and give you just a
few tips and tracks, you know things. The first thing
you gotta know is wicket is a very stereotypical thing
that they say up here. So one thing. The other
thing is it's not a lake house or a cottage

(36:04):
by the lake or anything like that.

Speaker 11 (36:06):
Camp you're up to camp in me?

Speaker 16 (36:09):
Okay, So I'm sure guys up there have told you that, right, Yes, well, okay,
that's good. But uh yeah, welcome to Maine, and uh
love the show. Love you guys. You guys have been
a big part of my life and seeing you in
Maine is is really cool.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
All right, wicked great to hear from you, Lincoln. Thank you.
Yes you you say you have a camp up here.
Everybody has a camp. It's not a house. It's a camp.

Speaker 6 (36:35):
Yes, we like camp David. It's camp Danny. You just
call it camp Danny. Nice and easy.

Speaker 15 (36:41):
Hm.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
Uh, I might go fishing today, you know. Since I
get done, just walk out the door, go down cast
a line. Or two.

Speaker 7 (36:51):
Yes, Mark, you should invite people up to your house
in Maine. Call it Dan Camp so someone can say,
there's this one time at Dan Camp.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
All right, I'll give you a half a bloop for that.

Speaker 5 (37:05):
It would be a wild if all of a sudden
you started inviting people over to your house all the time,
now that it's in Maine. Yeah, like, hey, when I
was in Connecticut, not an invite to be had.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
But now that we're in Maine, like, you should come
up sometimes. Yeah, it'd be great to have you. Yeah,
knowing that you're not coming up right exactly one of
those faux invites, right, you kind of come up. You
got to get on the pontoon boat and pall.

Speaker 6 (37:30):
I love the faux invite because it's so easy to
do and you look like the nice person doing it.
I one time with my family we were going to
Italy and I threw out there a faux invite to
my sister, who had a lot of free time.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
I go, you know what, it's next week we're going
to Italy. She goes, oh, that's really cool. My yeah,
I go, you should come with us. She goes yeah.

Speaker 6 (37:46):
I go yeah, because you don't think she goes okay,
and she bought a plane Ticke an hour later. Next thing,
you know, and we had a great time. But it
was a faux invitation at the time.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
Uh. This day in sports history, Poulie.

Speaker 6 (37:58):
Fritzy right on que who tied Lou Garrigg by hit
Kittting his career double number five thirty four, named Todd
Paul Molletter of the Twins, Oh my God, stay with
the bed. John Madden debut on Monday Night Football in
two thousand and two. Mike Tyson knocked out Peter McNeely
in just eighty nine seconds in ninety five, nineteen fifty

(38:20):
seven with.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
His brother McNeely at ESPN. That was Peter mcneely's brother
was a producer at ESPN. I remember that guy, Yes, yeah,
I remember when he was telling us that his brother
was going to fight Mike Tyson. We were trying to
offer encouragement. It went eighty nine seconds, Yes, Tom, I.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
Remember McNeely after Fay, Hey, man, I did the best
that I could. What do you want from me?

Speaker 16 (38:46):
Man?

Speaker 2 (38:46):
It's Mike Tyson, Thank you, Todd? What else? PAULI?

Speaker 6 (38:50):
Nineteen o nine, the Phillies gamed were rained out for
the tenth consecutive day, major League record, ten straight rainops.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
That's it, dang. On this date in nineteen fifty one,
the Saint Louis Browns sent Eddie Gadell to pinch hit.
He was three feet seven inches. He walked on four pitch.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
That's a tough strike zone.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
On this day, nineteen ninety six, Charles Barkley, the Sons
traded him to Houston. Actually they got a pretty good
haul in return. They got Robert Dorry, Sam Cassell, Chucky Brown,
Mark Bryant because Chuck at the time, I don't know
how old he was, but it was starting to be
on the decline there. But then I don't know how

(39:34):
old Robert Rory and Sam Cassell were. Yes, Marvin, do
you remember.

Speaker 7 (39:39):
I remember Robert Rory throwing a towel in Danny and
his face when he's with the Signs.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
Yeah, yeah, we never bring that up when roberts the show.

Speaker 8 (39:48):
We should bring that up. How do we bring that
up in a way if somebody throws in the t
throw tiles.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Yeah, yes, yeah, something like that, could we perhap get
that seat and final results of the pole question.

Speaker 5 (40:05):
Let's see right now, the best northern New England State
in our very important poll question right now, fifty two
percent of the vote, Maine is getting it, followed by
Vermont with a respectable thirty three percent. Shout out New Hampshire,
no love.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
Maybe we're just not big in New Hampshire. Possibly, maybe
that that's what it is. Yeah, it could be, could
be who has a better season? Sam Darnold of Gardner
Minshew fifty to fifty right now, slight edge to Gardner
Minshew with fifty point two percent of the vote. That
is just an unbelievably tight pole question. And who would
you rather quarterback? The Vikings or the Raiders? Right now

(40:42):
seventy six percent have the Vikings?

Speaker 5 (40:45):
Seems like a no brainer.

Speaker 12 (40:46):
Todd?

Speaker 2 (40:47):
What did I learn on today's progress?

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Albert Brias says, after sixty one starts in college, bow
Nick should look good.

Speaker 4 (40:51):
He would be alarmed if he was not.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
All right, Uh, well, we did it. We're back and
an hour in the books or one show with the books,
three hours and we'll try to do it again from
Main the Main Cave coming up tomorrow. Thanks for the
phone calls, the emails, the all around support for the program.
And in case you're new to the show. It's Todd, Fritz,
Seat O'Connor, Marvin the Prince, Polyester, Papst and yours truly.

(41:18):
Thanks for everybody behind the scenes who made this happen.
We'll talk to you tomorrow.
