Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Got a busy final hour here. Jalen Rose
will join us coming up momentarily. Reggie Miller will stop
by as well. This week on.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Coast to Coast Hornets Celtics, My Hornets against the Celtics,
Rockets versus the Suns on NBC and Peacock. Also the
NBA Playoffs coming to NBC and Peacocks starting April nineteen eight,
seven seven to three. DP Show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle at DP show. Congrats to the Michigan Wolverines
(00:34):
with the win against Connecticut. It's one of those where
you're watching the game and I know the betting line
is six and a half, and all of a sudden,
it's you know, four, and then it's nine, and then
it's coming back, and then it's going back and back
and back, and then Fritzie says, this is going to
end up. What was your line when you text us
the point spread?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Well, the latest points what I heard was six and
a half. So with about seven and a half minutes
up in the game ago, it's just a matter of
whether they're gonna win by six or seven.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
We know they're gonna win. He's just gonna be one
of those two.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Numbers, because you can't win by six and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Someone's got to have a bad beat and someone's got
to just barely win.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
That's what they want.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Michigan first title since nineteen eighty nine. The other news,
of course, North Carolina hiring Michael Malone as its new
head coach, which is interesting because college basketball has changed
considerably since Michael Malone was coaching in college. He of
course coached with the Denver Nuggets and assistant coach in
the NBA. But as I've mentioned a couple of times
(01:33):
that the pipeline the talent through Nicola Jokich's agent, who
represents close to forty players who will be either in
college basketball or coming over to the United States. Illinois
benefited greatly from this. North Carolina will tap into that
as well. Seaton, would you give us the results of
(01:56):
the pole question and what do we go with the
final over of the program? Yeah, we have a pull
quested up there now.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
We also had a suggestion from Marvin that's kind of
more of a topic that we have to make it
to a poll question putting together This one's from Todd
t o dub putting together starting five of all transfers
is smart or dumb. I'm glad that our audience is smart.
Given the proof of concept. Last night, seventy percent say
that it is smart, only thirty percent saying it is
done well.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
I think smart or off putting because you might be
bothered that that's how they built this team. I'm not
because I don't know if there is This is the
standard way to build a team now because it used
to be. Remember when Cayler Perry did it and everybody go, oh,
you're just going to take these kids for six months?
He went, yeah, I'm bringing them in, see what we
(02:42):
can do. Then I bring in another wave and then
all of a sudden, Mike Krzyzewski started doing it, and
that's when everybody go, oh, okay, yeah, even the great
Mike Krzyzewski was taking a one or Donner. But you know,
coach Kyle did that, and he has talked about that,
because I even talked to him, you know, about before
where he needed to surround some of the younger talent.
(03:05):
And I think his approach is different at Arkansas than
it was at Kentucky.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
Yes, Pauline, I do think the days of winning with
a super duper freshmen are kind of over. I don't
know if you can have that one Aj Debansa and
make it to the final game. And these coaches have
no choice but to take a superstar freshman Duke and
BYU and Arkansas, but it seems like it actually hurts
you and you'd rather have a bunch of twenty one
(03:30):
year olds.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Well, Duke should have won a national title the last
couple of years with that talent. The yes, you have
one and Donners, but still you still have a pretty
good roster. By you didn't have a roster. They had
one player, and you spend five or six million dollars,
there goes the budget. Also, keep this in mind. You
know Dusty May went from Florida at Lanting to Michigan,
(03:52):
Kurt Signetti, James Madison to Indiana. Even Danny Hurley left
Rhode Island to go to Yukon. None of these moves were,
you know, I guess treated with fanfare. Dusty, you know,
going from Florida Atlantic to you know, final four team
a couple of years ago to go to Michigan. But
you know, these coaches doesn't mean you have to get
(04:13):
the biggest name, you got to get the right name,
and these schools certainly benefited from them. Jalen Rose part
of the five to five. He has recently recently launched
the Same Page Entertainment, which he'll talk about as he
gets ready to sit down. He was watching the title
game from his hometown at Detroit. How are you feeling
(04:34):
today about your Wolverines.
Speaker 7 (04:36):
I feel like a national champion, Dan. It's always great
to see you enjoying the show.
Speaker 8 (04:40):
You a legend.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
You know how much I love and appreciate you.
Speaker 7 (04:44):
Value everything you brought to the game over the years
in all aspects. So always an honor to be on
the show. And it's a great day to be a
Michigan Wolverine. As a Detroit kid, the Pistons had a
number one seed. We're going to get Kay Cunningham back
for a playoff off run. Just won the national championship
in football a couple of years ago, Now we win
(05:04):
it in basketball this year. I'm so happy for Dusty
Man and the squad. It's a perfect day. The balls up.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
How will history remember this Michigan teom.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
There's national champions you know.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
Being a quote unquote football school and you know, the
team has won twelve or thirteen national championships and has
one hundred and twenty thousand people at the game every Saturday.
You know, that's just going to be the standard. But
there's been times even when we were in college, just
the Fab five, where Desmond Howard was also winning the
Heisman Trophy. And so that's an expectation when we say
(05:42):
leaders in best, that's a real thing at Michigan. And
so there is a level of pride and excellence and
you know, not only being great at basketball, but being
great at all of what we do.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Who is bigger on campus, big men on campus? Fab
five or Desmond Howard.
Speaker 7 (05:59):
Well, it's not fair of death because it was five
of them. You know, we could be in a lot
of places.
Speaker 8 (06:08):
That a lot of times.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
You know, the way that coach built this team, I
don't know if this is the future, but you know
that that makes it even more amazing is you're kind
of taking pieces from all over the all over the
world and going, I can I can put this puzzle
together and have a magical run. Is this how teams
(06:30):
are going to try to build their rosters in the future.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
Absolutely. You saw Indiana do it in football this.
Speaker 7 (06:36):
Year what's considered a basketball school, and all of a sudden,
you know, they have a team of twenty three year
olds and they win, you know, the football college football
playoffs this year. And so for dust he made though
I think I think he has the ability to.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Do both, and that's what I really like about him.
Speaker 7 (06:56):
But in this case turning the team around in two years,
You're bringing Yackselle lindon board, Big ten player of the
Year from UAB, and then you bring in Cadot who
was at UNC and Marrow who's at UCLA, so a
lot of moving parts. Marie Johnson he was at Illinois,
you know, and then the school invests in the team.
You know, you put up the nil money, you create
(07:17):
the budget, and all of a sudden, Dusty puts his
fingertips on it and becomes magical. And they did a
terrific job. And they were the best team all season.
And I was telling this to Jamal Mashburn about Arizona
and how they were a great team. But you know,
I felt like they were a little handicapped because they
didn't make the.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Three the old cast with the Fab five. How much
fun was that?
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Like? College kids really.
Speaker 7 (07:44):
And it was really awesome because a lot of people
may or may not recognize that's really the third time
since nineteen ninety three we've been in the same place
at the same time, and one of them was early
two thousands at my celebrity charity.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Game I did in Chicago.
Speaker 7 (08:00):
So another time was a Michigan played in the finals
against Louisville. And then one time when Juwan was coaching,
we got a chance to go to a game in
ann Arbor, so you know, to be back with Ray Jackson,
Jimmy King, Juwan Howard and see Webb and break bread
and tell stories. It was a great opportunity for CBS
and TNT and True TV to bring us all together,
(08:22):
and the fans seem to really enjoy it and probably
would do more in the future.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
What makes a team famous.
Speaker 7 (08:31):
The public, So I was like giving yourself a nickname. Initially,
we didn't want to be called the Fab Fire. We
wanted to be called five Times because as a fan
of music, I knew that that was the Beatles, and
then of a fan of rap, I knew that was
Fab five Freddy, and so we didn't want to be
called the Fab five. But then the public wins out,
and I'm glad the public was right. It's the exact
(08:52):
same thing with anything else. You know, the impact you
have on people and on the game speaks for itself.
And so they determined all of that.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
How much would it to cost Michigan in nil when
Fab five was coming to Michigan.
Speaker 7 (09:10):
So here's the difference, as I learned just covering the
game this year with you know, Adam left Ko, Jamal
mash Burn, and Bruce pearl is, not only would we
had the pay for play opportunity which most players are
taking advantage of, which is why you see so many
players moving around, but we actually sold merchandise, jerseys, shorts, socks, shoes,
(09:39):
Hirachis like, we actually sold merchandise and helped with enrollment,
help with the popularity of the school. So couple that
with you know, pay for playing nil money, we would
have made some pretty pennies.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Talking to Jalen Rose, a member of the Fab five
of course a longtime NBA player as well, tell me
what the same page entertainment, what are we diving into multimedia?
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Detroit based?
Speaker 7 (10:07):
And I partner with Tom Gores, a good friend of mine,
for the Detraye Pistons, and we really bonded over our
community work and wanted to give back to his home
town on the Flint Mine of Detroit, but also just
the state of Michigan. Just highlight a lot of voices
in talent and in all types of spaces, whether it's docuseries.
We have the number one show out right now to
(10:28):
be calls out for us how to make sure you
check that out. We also have a project out right
now called Meal Ticket that.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
We're consulting producers with.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
It's on Amazon, So really it's going to be podcasts,
it's going to be multimedia, just creating quality content for
the masses.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
How many text messages did you get when Bam out
of Bio scored eighty three?
Speaker 8 (10:50):
You know, I.
Speaker 7 (10:51):
Probably, like the rest of the world, none of us
was watching that game first off, so I didn't. I
didn't know what was happening. They're playing against the Wizards, right.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
I didn't. I didn't know that was happening.
Speaker 7 (11:05):
But in context, you know, I want to give Bam
a lot of credit for people who haven't played, just
the endurance and the discipline it takes to do something
consistently to get to that type of numbers, there's a
there's a reason why it hasn't happened in the history
of the game, whether it's free throws. And yeah, it
was a little spunky at the end of the game
(11:27):
when they were folling and trying to get it for him,
But if you think about it, it's no different.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
And I say this is with all due respect.
Speaker 7 (11:34):
If the Cleveland Browns are trying to get Miles Garrett
the sack record, they're going to try to help them
make it happen at the end of the season, even
if the team isn't playing for the playoffs. And so
that's that happens in sports a lot, a lot more
than people realize. And so I was just happy for Bam.
It's a terrific accomplishment. And I joked a lot because
I feel like if he wasn't dayton Asia Wilson, he
(11:55):
wouldn't have never got there.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
So good for him.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Wait, why wouldn't you have got there?
Speaker 7 (12:01):
Because I love her killer instinct, how she's been a
multiple MVPN champion and she brings it every game, So
I feel like she's a motivating factor for his approach
to the game these days.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Okay, but now nobody's now people aren't gonna text you
and say can you come on the show on the
anniversary of Kobe's eighty one. You don't have to worry
about that anymore.
Speaker 7 (12:25):
Well, I think I knew the entire time that you know,
when you're playing against greatness, you know Tom Brady's gonna
throw six or seven touchdowns in the game. But the
reality that people always forget because people keep using the
word record, Will actually has it at one hundred. That's
(12:47):
the actual record. And so again, rest in peace. Kobe
lost the way too young, but it's really an acknowledgment
to Wilt's greatness as well that he still has the
record all of these years later.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, but as you said, I didn't guard Kobe the
whole game. People made it seem like you're the year.
Nobody's bringing up anybody from the Wizards to say, man,
this is going to stay with you because you guarded
Bam out of bio when he had eighty three.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
And I'll say this with humility, it's because Jalen has
become a common name in the marketplace, and so you
can attach me to it. There's nobody on the Wizards
you can attach to it.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
But isn't it amazing the number of players in the
NBA with the name Jalen? Is it like twenty eight.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
I'll tell you a secret, not just NBA, NFL, NCAA,
in society, at the grocery store.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
And it's a blessing.
Speaker 7 (13:45):
And it's such a tribute to my late mom whoor
lost a handful of years, who combined my biological father
James with my uncle Lennard, who took it to the
hospital to give birth.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Yeah, Jalen, I mean, if I do the math, you know, Paulie.
Speaker 6 (14:00):
Before nineteen ninety two, it wasn't in the top five
hundred boys' names in America. Then it went to three
seventy eight and ninety two and got up to the
top fifty ten years later.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Shaq's up there too, isn't he? Is there anybody else?
Lebron's not up there, coach.
Speaker 7 (14:17):
So I got some fine print for those names, Shaq, Lebron,
and Denzel, who all are all time greats at what
they do.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
All of those kids are black.
Speaker 7 (14:27):
Do one thing about the name Jalen is unisex, is universal.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
It has no color lines or boundaries.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Are you sure there are not a lot of white
guys named Shaquille.
Speaker 7 (14:39):
No, I've never met one, PAULI what you check?
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Yeah, we're checking Jack and see if there's a Shaquille
back down there. Hey, great to talk to you. Good
luck with the same page entertainment and congratch to your Wolverines.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
I appreciate the love of hell to the victors.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
All right? That is h Jalen Rose. Uh, that's good.
You start to look at the numbers, you look at
the map, you know, do the map there.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
Yes, it's hard to explain even as someone like I'm
not a Michigan fan, but there's something special about seeing
that five together that gets me like, ah, here we go.
There they are and it's not so unique, it's so rare,
but just seeing those five guys together just makes me
feel good, you.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Know, more impactful Fab five or the running rebels of UNLV.
Speaker 9 (15:28):
Impactful, not better at basketball? Well, UNLV won a national title,
Fab five noticeably. Yeah, Fab five by far to me
impact and coverage.
Speaker 6 (15:39):
I think the Fab five was covered outside of sports.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Okay, Yeah, I mean it was cultural, like that was
different UNLV the way they played, but Michigan it was
more of the way they looked in the way they
played as far as the style with the uniforms, with
the baggy shorts, no apologies whatsoever. Yeah it's Marvin.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (16:03):
I feel like PAULI brought it up earlier Michigan, the
Fab Five. You had to be there for it. I
remember fourth grade rec league. I got black Church socks
because in nineteen eighty four, Nike you didn't have black sox.
I wore Church socks. Took to a rec league game
to be like the Fab Five.
Speaker 2 (16:20):

More phone calls coming up. Got a text message last
night Reggie says, Hey, I want to lead off my
segment talking about the UCLA women's basketball team. I'm going okay, great,
you filled out of bracket. Nobody else filled out a bracket.
(17:20):
You filled out a bracket, and you picked your alma
mater to win the national title. That's not a big jump.
What noe?
Speaker 8 (17:35):
If you listen to.
Speaker 11 (17:36):
If you listen to the pregame the women's championship, no
one had UCLA even though they only had that one
loss all season long, it was all there.
Speaker 8 (17:49):
There you go, Thank you.
Speaker 11 (17:53):
I picked all four final four, which wasn't a stress.
Speaker 8 (17:57):
That was a little easy.
Speaker 11 (17:59):
But but look, we know the talk coming into the
championship game, what happened with Gino and Don and South Carolina.
This is gonna be a motivating thing. My girl said,
hold my beer, hold on, hold on. That was that
was belt, belt to boody, belt to booty.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Come on, congratulations, thank you, congratulations.
Speaker 8 (18:27):
Let's give the ladies some love.
Speaker 11 (18:29):
I know you want to talk about Michigan and the
Mint and all of the Let's give my lady Bruins,
Corey Close, Lauren Bett's, Kiki, Rice, Gabrielle hotkaz Gianna Neatkins.
Let's give these seniors so much because I want to
tell people experience matters, seniors matter, and them having those
(18:51):
six seniors, they scored every single point, Every single point
came from seniors.
Speaker 8 (18:59):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
What stood out with Michigan's performance, whether last night or
in the tournament overall.
Speaker 8 (19:07):
Oh my goodness, there's size.
Speaker 11 (19:10):
Whoa that was like low key and NBA type team
right there. Yeah, their size was unbelievable. It was so
hard to score anywhere in the paint, not only all
season long, but it was highlighted in this tournament. Unbelievable size,
shot blocking. But again, Elliott Cadeau, when you've got a
(19:35):
guy that can run the offense, experience came over from
obviously from Carolina, didn't have the best career there, but
for whatever reason, it changed once he got to Michigan.
Confidence wise, Dusty may instilled maybe instilled that confidence in him.
But when you've got a guy who can control the tempo,
control the pace, be that you know, the head of
(19:58):
the snake along with that size, to me, That's what
stood out the most their defense in their size.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Your reaction to Michael Malone going to North Carolina was
what good for him.
Speaker 11 (20:12):
I was surprised that last year there were so many
job openings in the pro game and he wasn't able
to get one of them.
Speaker 8 (20:20):
And you talk.
Speaker 11 (20:21):
About a basketball savant, I thought he got kind of railroaded.
Speaker 8 (20:28):
Well he was in Denver.
Speaker 11 (20:30):
This is a great job for him to kind of
set pace and step back in life because.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
NBA is go, go go.
Speaker 11 (20:37):
I don't know how well the recruiting thing will be
for him in NIL and all that, but you're going
to one of these blue blood type universities where I'm
sure the bank will be open. In terms of x's
and o's and game management, he is one of the best,
So it's I think it's a great fit for him
(21:00):
because now he gets a chance to kind of slow
down a little bit as opposed to go on one
hundred miles a minute in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
How involved do you think Michael Jordan is at Carolina
with basketball?
Speaker 8 (21:11):
I think he has a huge influence. I mean, he's
their most famous athlete.
Speaker 11 (21:16):
Their team is repped by Jordan Brand, so I'm sure
he had a scene, and I'm sure he did his
due diligence. I'm sure he had his conversations with Michael Malone.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
But does he resonate with a seventeen year old.
Speaker 11 (21:31):
They all wear Jordan's, of course, everyone knows, yes, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
But it feels like the seventeen year old Kobe might
resonate more with them than Mike. Maybe maybe Lebron would
resonate more than Mike would. Is that is that fair?
Speaker 8 (21:51):
Yeah? Fair enough? I could, Yes, fair enough.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
But at the end of the day, but the parents,
the parents would be like the parents Michael, Yeah, Mike,
Mike's on the coal.
Speaker 11 (22:02):
But the kids, kids are out there buying Jordan's. As
much as I love Lebron's, I'm not saying I want
a pair of They'll They'll want Kobe's. They love Kobe's
shoes too. Kobe's has a huge following as well, so
does Lebron. Lebron has a nice following. But in terms
of shoe deils, come on.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Now we know and you have Jordan's.
Speaker 8 (22:25):
Why are you bringing this?
Speaker 4 (22:26):
No?
Speaker 2 (22:26):
I was just curious because are you.
Speaker 11 (22:28):
A Later in my career I had Jordan's, Okay, later
before I was just a regular Nike athlete.
Speaker 8 (22:36):
Are you everyone else?
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Are you a sneaker head?
Speaker 8 (22:40):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
He never collected.
Speaker 8 (22:42):
No I have.
Speaker 11 (22:44):
I have quite a few of the Jordan runs, but
I'm not like I gotta get these.
Speaker 8 (22:47):
I'm not. I'm not die hard like some people are.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Uh. You know that I was watching Joker and Wemby
and it was a Saturday afternoons game.
Speaker 8 (22:58):
Oh and it was so.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Much much fun to just watch that game because I
love both of the players. But here is Joker putting
up forty on the best defensive player in the game.
And even there were shots where Wenby put his hands
up like, I don't know what I can do with this.
And you know, Wemby had a great game against Joker
(23:20):
as well. Sga Is winning the MVP, of course, but
that was fun to watch. That was a late season battle.
I don't know what was really at stake other than pride.
Speaker 11 (23:30):
But I will say this, with the Lakers being hurt,
I don't know if they can hold on to that
number three seed and the Denver note Nuggets move up
and get that three seed, how fun would that be?
Knock on wood. They both handle their business in the
first round. Oh my goodness, and we get those two
(23:51):
Juggernauts in the second round, san Antonio. But let me
say this too, Wimby was guarding Yokids from most of
the game. Yeah, Jokis was not guarding Wimby for most
of the game. See that's the difference. And this is
why I do love Wimby. He takes on the challenge.
It's my responsibility to stop the best player on the
(24:12):
other team, which is yo kids, I'm gonna take that challenge.
And look, Yokis just put up forty on a lot
of great players, just not Wimby.
Speaker 8 (24:22):
So it's hard to say, oh, he'd be.
Speaker 11 (24:24):
Dropped forty on Wimby, the supposedly the best, you know,
defensive player. That's his job. He's gonna contest. He's gonna
go against the best player each and every night.
Speaker 8 (24:34):
I like that. He's not dodging the smoke at all.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Oh hey, I acknowledge that I love Wemby. But Joker
puts up forty and own he owns the team record
against him and head to head matchup as well. He's
just still they by far and away the best offensive
player in the game.
Speaker 11 (24:53):
Yes, I agree, but you and I I think we're
in sync on who will win MVP.
Speaker 8 (24:59):
I think that'll be s and them having.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Lemby will win an MVP before Joker wins another one.
Webby's having a better year. I mean, Joker's having a
better year this year than he did in his MVP years.
Speaker 11 (25:13):
But can I just say one thing, dude, The dude
is averaging a triple double as a sinner, he's leading
the league in assists and rebounds, and he's a top
five score and he won't win MVP.
Speaker 8 (25:29):
Let me think about what we're saying here.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
But if they had a better record than he's winning
the end, that's what it comes down to.
Speaker 11 (25:38):
I think this year SCA is putting up incredible numbers,
but I think what will tilt towards him will be
the overall number one seed?
Speaker 8 (25:50):
Was it?
Speaker 11 (25:50):
And again, this is coming off having the best record,
going deep in the playoffs, going to seven games, winning finals, MVP,
and oh, by the way, you come back what two
months later, maybe less than two months later, and you're
doing it all over again. Let's give SGA and the
Thunder a lot of credit.
Speaker 8 (26:10):
For doing that.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Absolutely, we're talking to Reggie Miller. I didn't give you
the proper introduction. Let's see, no need, no needy. People
know you got my hornage at the Celtics coming up tonight, Howard,
Look who's your rookie of the year.
Speaker 11 (26:29):
I'm still going with Con, But what Cooper Flag has
done over the last week or so, fifty one and
then I think forty five against the Lakers. That's great
and all, but Con and his team every game means something.
I mean, they've had the second best record, I believe,
since January twenty second only behind the Spurs.
Speaker 8 (26:51):
And if you.
Speaker 11 (26:52):
Look at their starting five, LaMelo, Brendan Miller, Con Miles, Bridges,
Mussa Diabate, they're plus minus by far. They're starting five
by far. It's superior than any other starting five since
January first.
Speaker 8 (27:09):
This is one game, and I'm.
Speaker 11 (27:10):
Glad we added it late in the season because when
you watch the Hornets play, it's hard to kind of
gauge their pace and their speed from television. So I'm
curious because both of these teams tonight, they kind of
are very similar. They both like to jack up a
lot of threes, they live behind that three point line.
They both are great offensive reboundings team, and they're both
(27:32):
great defensively, and March fourth, the Hornets came in to
Boston and put a whooping on Boston. Now again, Tatum
came back a couple of weeks later and they went
to Charlotte and one Boston did. So this could be
a very very well could be a first round matchup
as well. So I think there's gonna be some messages
(27:54):
being sent from both teams.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Okay, I think Cooper Flagg should be the rookie of
the year. You're factoring in record for a Rookie of
the Year award. We don't do that. We're doing it
because that can tilt towards Kanknipple. I think we're surprised
at Caniple. We're not surprised at Cooper Flag. He plays
on a bad team. Imagine being nineteen years of age
(28:19):
and everybody knows you're the guy who's gonna have the
ball and try to score, and he puts up fifty
one and forty five. I really don't think it's close.
I love Canipple. I do watch the Hornets play games,
but Cooper Flagg is leading an entire team every single night.
There might not be good, but everybody in the building
knows we have to stop him.
Speaker 11 (28:42):
All fair and valid points, but also too, you've got
a dude who is not only leading the league, but
broke the rookie record with two hundred and sixty five
and counting mad threes. Just go back last year for
the Hornets, they weren't in this position. Con comes in
and it helps that Brandon Miller has been help been healthy,
(29:05):
he was hurt. It helps that LMLO ball has been healthy.
But Kon King Noble has added something to this Hornets team.
Speaker 8 (29:14):
I don't think it's a runaway for Cooper to win it. Now,
Let's give Con some credit.
Speaker 11 (29:19):
Two hundred and sixty five may threes as a rookie,
and it's not like he's just jacking him up and
he has a terrible shooting percentage. He has added a
lot of stability for this Hornets team.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Okay, I brought this up, and I need you to
bring it up. Uh next year fifty years since the
ABA merger. Yes, okay, the Spurs.
Speaker 8 (29:44):
You want me to bring it up on you like
the red, white and blue ball.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Okay, here, just hear me out. Next season one game
Spurs Nuggets, two original ABA teams, old uniforms, red White
and Blue ball and you have ab A Night in
the NBA.
Speaker 8 (30:04):
What do you think? I absolutely love it.
Speaker 11 (30:07):
The only thing I would change in what you just
said it would have to be Spurs versus the Indiana Pacers.
Speaker 8 (30:15):
What are you talking about? Three ABA championships? Roger Brown,
I'm okay with that. I'm okay.
Speaker 11 (30:21):
We're going with the Spurs and the Indiana Pacers, Adam Silver.
If you are listening, Theodore and Reginald Awl Wishes Miller,
we want ab A Night, Spurs, Pacers off, bring in
the cheerleaders and oh yes, let's do it.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Okay, but can I get okay? Who the Nuggets gotta
be involved in this?
Speaker 8 (30:47):
Is there still a are both of the only three
ABA teams left that merge the nets?
Speaker 4 (30:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (30:58):
But the brook Yeah, we could do the net.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
And I want guys to wear afros too, like it's
fifty years ago. Maybe mustaches, goates or whatever.
Speaker 12 (31:09):
Tight you love to see, uh yo, kids just run
out for the layup line, just with a big old
doctor J Frow.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Yeah, I'd like that fifty year anniversary.
Speaker 8 (31:25):
I hope they're listening to us.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
That's one game you got the whole fielding. Reggie you're
on the col tonight.
Speaker 8 (31:32):
Furs Pacers and we've got nuggets nets.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Yes, let's do it ABA night standalone. Those four teams
play and it's a BA night next year during the
regular season.
Speaker 11 (31:44):
Mark you don't want to call it the Red, White
and Blue ball. That that's chef's kids.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Come on and you know what, we're gonna call it
frow Back Night.
Speaker 8 (31:54):
Oh my goodness, you're going a little too.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Far, are you not. That's gold.
Speaker 8 (32:00):
Look, I'm in for warm up line. Come my god,
you're getting too gimmicky now, I like everything. How we
set it up tight.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Short night, Yes we do that, Yes, yeah, we We
just promoted his tight short night. John John Stockton, Will
John stock.
Speaker 8 (32:24):
The old blazer, you know, the big lapale blazer.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (32:29):
Oh, let's bring him back.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
You could have Utah Jazz have the John Stockton shorts
night and uh the Jazz dress up like John Stockton,
the way he played.
Speaker 8 (32:41):
I'm staying out of me John. We're cool, right.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
John was just dirty to everybody. Nut just yeah, he
was dirty. He was dirty. Reggie will be on the call.
Uh Noah, Eagle tonight my Hornets against the Celtics. That's
eight Eastern nine n B C in Peacock. Thanks Reg, appreciate.
Speaker 8 (33:03):
Your theater, our seating.
Speaker 11 (33:05):
You're you may be leaving, You're not gone, but you
will never be forgetting.
Speaker 8 (33:09):
You and I got you and I started together in
the trenches. We started together.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
You and I Wait, did you say he'll be gone?
Not forgetting, never forgotten, but never forgotten. I was like,
what is forgetting?
Speaker 8 (33:26):
No, he's gone, but never forgot, forgotten? Okay, forgotten?
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Why are we yelling?
Speaker 8 (33:31):
I don't know?
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Thanks Reg, go shoot shoot some jumpers here. All right,
we'll take a break, last call for phone calls.
Speaker 8 (33:41):
What we learn?
Speaker 2 (33:41):
What's in what? What I know?
Speaker 8 (33:44):
I loved it?
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Yeah, yeah, they Then he claims that I got gimmicky,
but he was okay with the short short night. Everybody
has to wear Chuck Taylor converse. That'd be nice broken
ankle night. Yeah, although nobody was breaking ankles back then
when we were wearing combers Chuck Taylor's and there were
(34:07):
some high risers back then. All right, when we come back,
Fritzy has his sports center tees more phone calls as well.
What we learned? What's in store tomorrow? After this?
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred joining us tomorrow. We'll talk about
the automated balls and strengths. Randal Shamblely Haill join us
from Augusta. Weather looks like it's going to be great
for the entire week. What's he in trouble for today?
Randal Shamblely nothing today. We usually call him whenever he's
in trouble for something. Yeah, but he said, all right, Todd,
(34:52):
I'll let you do your Sports Center theme. Are they
past me a little bit? I got to get through
other things here there are.
Speaker 8 (34:58):
We've got only about five and a half minutes.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Okay, all right, all right, all right, here is Todd's
SportsCenter tease.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Coming up on Sports Center. They didn't know what was
in stores for them. How April became May last night
at Lucas Oil and did the top Husky Hurley arbor?
Andy Ill will to are the officials a forlorn unicorn?
Anyone have a spare rib for wincing Wemby. Here's a
nugget new home alone. Michael moves into the chapel, but
this will be a good marriage or not? Why Coach
k grades the higher as a UNC minus will explain
(35:36):
the windy city clips in Angels Wings, but will be
a dream or nightmare in Atlanta? And is the Red
Sox first basement?
Speaker 2 (35:42):
Okay?
Speaker 8 (35:42):
With gonna hit by a pitch?
Speaker 3 (35:43):
Oh, Contreras, we only have an undergraduate degree, but we're.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Preparing for a master's sports center next. How about that
round of applause for that? Ah? I like that, Todd Yeah, yeah, Paul.
Speaker 6 (35:58):
I hesitate to say this because it means he'll do
it every week after this, but that may be his
best one ever ever, at least twelve good play on words.
Speaker 8 (36:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
I mean there's usually one or two cringies, but for
the most part, that was good. Arbor ill will Yeah. Okay,
So Contreras has been hit twenty four times by the
same team, but Craig Bigio has the old time record.
I think the Rockies hit Craig Bigio twenty nine times.
(36:30):
I get what point does it become personal, like after
the twentieth time that I've been hit by this pitching staff.
But I think so Wilson Contreras was hit by a
Brewer pitcher, and he has been hit by Milwaukee pitchers
twenty four times in his career, six more than any
other active player by a single team. Yeah it is
(36:52):
Craig Bigio hit twenty nine times by the Rockies pitchers. Yeah, boy,
whoa out of the day.
Speaker 7 (37:01):
Start of the day, start of the day, start to day.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Sat all right, all right, thank you Marmo. Brought you
by No, no, no, you're just doing your job. Brought
to you by Panai America.
Speaker 6 (37:14):
Yes, Paul contraras forty fifth all time and hit by pitches.
Craig Bigio is the modern era leader.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
In case you missed the big announcement about an hour ago,
Seatan is adding another chapter to his DP show career.
I think I'm trying to figure out how to explain it.
Is that good adding another chapter to sure? Yeah? I
like that. Okay, you're staying in the house. We're just
(37:42):
building onto the house. I'm just yeah, I'm still in
the family. I'm just not reporting to duty here every day.
I'm not going to do the radio show anymore, he said.
Duty Seaton is going to be developing digital content for us.
He's going to be on the road. Ode gonna be
traveling to different cities, hopefully the Draft with US, super
(38:05):
Bowl with US, Tahoe with this, but doing other things
that kind of suit what he wants to do bigger picture. Yes,
I think they call it a pivot career pivoting. I've
heard that pivot. Okay, So Seatan's pivoting. Friday will be
his last day officially technically on the radio show. Yes,
(38:26):
I am gonna need something from Seaton.
Speaker 6 (38:28):
I could wait, or I could ask for it now.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Ye ask for it now.
Speaker 6 (38:30):
As a producer, I'm gonna lose a bunch of things
with Seaton being gone. One of them that I'm really
gonna need is a good variety of fake laughs for
when things happen on this show. So like and then
the pre said, that's not my sausage.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Marvin, I think you need to have that sound effect.
Speaker 5 (38:51):
Ready, I was gonna say, Unfortunately, I am taking it
with me. I'm sorry, you guys are gonna appreciate it now.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Sorry, I think the laugh is coming with me. No,
very sorry. When I left ESPN, they kept all my catchphrases.
They owned everything intellectual property. I think they call that.
Barry in Long Island, Hi Berry welcome back.
Speaker 13 (39:15):
Good morning, So good morning, chat Bro. I wanted to
congratulate Seaton. We're gonna miss the hysterical cackle. And one
more thing I wanted to know if you could take
Todd with you.
Speaker 8 (39:31):
Gotta get that over.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
A min and a half left the Twain.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Thank you, Verry, very slow burned delivery. And the middle
passover too. He's got a higher person to do with none.
That's pretty good. You only got a couple more days
left of this and then yeah.
Speaker 10 (39:46):
They'll pick up the slack of the rest of the group.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
I'm out and Dylan's going to be back there in
Seaton's chair. That's good. This dame sports history.
Speaker 6 (39:55):
Paul do One nineteen sixty three, at the age of
twenty three, Jack Nicholas, youngest golfer to win the Green
jacket at the Master's Tournament.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
Here's one for you. This picture is credited with the
first official save in baseball history nineteen sixty nine, Paul
Mike Marshall. No, that's okay, not a bad guess. A
little early for him, but same team Dodgers, Bill Singer,
(40:25):
Bill Singer, Todd. Would you learn today?
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Dusty May told us that Coach Night used to mix
doctor pepper and chocolate milk now refreshming.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
For Bob Knight. Yeah, Seaton.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
I've answered to many names over the years on this show,
including Seamen, and right now the internet seems to be
calling me Seaton O'Connor, so.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
That one out for the last three days. Huh No, Donner,
thanks for joining us. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
