Speaker 3 (01:11):
Coming up in about 28 minutes, Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports
Radio NFL Insider. We'll get into the NFL. Of course,
the season is about to kick off in Australia. The Rams-
And the 49ers, crazy. We've both been to Australia.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
And I think the Rams aren't flying out. The 49ers
are already there, I believe, and the Rams aren't going
to like.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah, 49ers are already there, yeah. Like the day, did
they get there the day before or something? They fly
out Tuesday. Normal schedule.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Fly out Tuesday, normal schedule for a 14-hour flight.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
When I went, Kerry, it was a double-decker plane.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
500 passengers. Were you on that too? I've been on
the double-decker, yeah. Crazy. Julian, Mark, have you guys ever
been on a double-decker? I have not. It just feels
heavy too. It just does.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
You can't believe it got up in the air. It's
so big. There's a whole other plane upstairs. I don't
know if I would like that. I don't know if
Kerry's the same. When I got off the plane, I
felt like I was in another world. It's so far away.
It just had like a different feel to it. It's

(02:32):
a beautiful place. I mean, you're literally going to the future.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Am I right? Yes. It's a beautiful place. Imagine the size.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
It's around, not exactly, the same land mass as the
United States. So like Sydney and Perth are 3,000 miles
away the way New York and LA are, right?

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Most of the middle of the country- is barren, you
can't live there, desert, whatever.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
So most of the people live on the coast.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
We have 330 million people in the United States.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
They have 30 million.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
That's all they have. So you get there, the place
is clean, spotless. It's amazing. It's a beautiful place, yeah.
It's really beautiful. It is, yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
So if you ever get a chance... But when I got,
and Kerry, you tell me if I'm wrong. When I
got off the plane, first thing I thought was, man,
I got to fly back.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
That's the first thing you thought of? I did, because
it was so long. It is a long flight, yeah.
It's 14, I think, to get there and 16 to
get back.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Because you're going against the, right? Yep. 16 hours.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
How many movies you watch? Ton of movies, music. I
had bags of paperwork back then. This was a long time.
I went in the 90s or whatever. I went a
long time ago. So stuff I wanted to get. Go through,
figure out. You had the Afro. You had the big
hair going. All that, man. I'm telling you.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
I had my Walkman. That's how long ago it was.
You don't even know what that is.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
But I had a Walkman with tape cassettes or whatever.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I mean, I went in the 90s. We didn't have anything.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
You were pressing play and record to record your voice
and get your practice in for your columns?

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
I don't know how I did that trip. But anyway,
week one coming up. Patriots and Seahawks, Rams and 49.
Just thoughts on the NFL season. Because I don't have
the Rams winning the Super Bowl. I know on paper
everybody has punched their ticket. I don't have them winning
it either.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
You know what's crazy? What's the thing.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Of all the teams that have been overwhelming favorites to
win the Super Bowl?

Speaker 6 (04:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
0 for 20. It's 0 for 20, right? It's 0
for 20.

Speaker 7 (04:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
I mean, listen.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
The Rams are the best team going into the season.
On paper. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Let's not get it twisted. Yeah,
that doesn't mean they're going to win it. And that's just,
that's the fact about sports and life in general. They
were great last year. They lost that game to the Falcons.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Remember that?

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Stafford threw three picks. They lost that game.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
And it cost them the difference between hosting the NFC
Championship game, which they probably would have... If that game
was in LA, am I right? They would have gone
to Super Bowl. That was a big swing.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
On the season.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
And that's why these little games in between matter. But
I'll talk about the Patriots-Seahawks, the opener. I think that's
on Wednesday. Obviously, Super Bowl rematch. Seahawks not getting a lot.
Do we have to watch it?

Speaker 2 (05:33):
We don't. We don't.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
But the Seahawks aren't getting a lot of attention for
a team that just won a championship. And I think
they're still almost like they have to prove it again.
I think it's a good spot for them coming into
this year to actually have to prove it. And I
think the Patriots are going to take a step back
this year. So I'm kind of excited to see and
eager to see how these two teams are going to
perform week one.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
How about the controversy with the Patriots and their coach
and Diana Roussini, all that stuff. It seems like that disappeared,
didn't it? I just can't... Huh? Nobody's talking about it now, Rob.
What's going on with it? Well, if they start losing...
You know, like, everything has to do with winning and losing.
I always say sports has a short menu. It's wins

(06:15):
and losses.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Right?

Speaker 2 (06:17):
So, if things.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Go a ride, then you'll look back and go, well,
maybe this whole thing, maybe the players don't respect them.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
The same way. Of course. Maybe they lost something.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
You know, when somebody's telling you about being a part
and being responsible and your character and all that and
preaching that to you, and then that walk in that line,
it's hard to look at.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
The person the same way. Am I right or wrong?

Speaker 5 (06:42):
That's what I talked about when it first happened. Like
the fact that he was so quiet on that front.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Right.

Speaker 5 (06:48):
You can't be a leader of men telling them, how
to behave and you have to act accordingly to fit
our organization. And you don't do it yourself. It just,
that doesn't last long, Rob. You can't, you can't, you
can't be that guy and expect for men to follow you.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
So yeah, you're right. If, if, if the.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
Team starts out slow or some turmoil happens throughout the season,
it's definitely going to come back to this moment for sure.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
I think the same thing in New York with the Giants.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Jackson Dart, the whole Trump thing, if you win, people
will forget about it. If they get off to a
bad start or he doesn't play great or something, people say,
it'll be like, okay, see, this fractured the team.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
There's guys not playing like that. For sure.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
There's those things. I'm not surprised. I think people look
at Seattle. That was like a one-off to me.

Speaker 8 (07:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
It really was.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Sam Darnold didn't play as great as people think he
played in Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Minnesota, he played great. Yeah, he did. Except for the
two biggest games of the year. The playoffs and the
game before, right?

Speaker 7 (07:49):
Right.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Which could have won the division for them. They lost
to the Lions. He was awful. They were in the
red zone like four times. Couldn't get the ball in.

Speaker 9 (07:56):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
And then the playoff game against the Rams, he was awful.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
And he didn't play well in the Super Bowl. Like,
he didn't. Their defense was so good.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
And people forget last year, he led the NFL in interceptions.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Did he?

Speaker 10 (08:11):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
I know he threw something. Yeah, I didn't know he
led it.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Yeah, for sure. Julian, look it up. I think he
had 20-something. Like, he led the league.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Like, it didn't feel like that because they were winning
and people were like, oh, Sam Darnold. And even Sam,
I heard a podcast where he even said, man, you know,
like the biggest game, he goes like, I didn't play
that well. I played okay, but he felt like there
was points left on the field, you know, and they won,
and they won, but nobody's looking at that team going, oh, yeah,
they're a dynasty.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
I just don't, or are they going to repeat?

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Like, I don't know what the odds are, but I just,
I would pick three or four other teams before I
would pick Seattle to win a game.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
He was third. He was third. How many did he have?
He had 14.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
14.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Gino led the league with 17, and then Tua had 15. Okay.
I knew he was in there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe,
who was it? Tua and... Tua and... Geno Smith.

Speaker 8 (09:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
And then your old team, the Jets. And I know
they're not in a conversation about it.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah, but don't start there. No, I'm going to start there.
Don't do this to him. Come on. Like, what are.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Like, are they just trying to tank to try to
get Manning? Like, Geno Smith... I just don't get it. Like,
if you're a Jets fan, I grew up in Queens.
I used to go to Jets games at Shea Stadium.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
You're a Jets fan. Stop acting like you're a Jets fan. No,
I'm not. You are under, under, under layer, like a
little bit under that you're a Jets fan. I was
a Jets fan when I was in high school.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
I'm not even, I used to ask my mom to
get out of church early to go watch the kickoff. Like,
it wasn't good enough to watch the game.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
You know what I mean? Like, I wanted to see
the kickoff the whole game.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Well, if you're a fan with what's going on there...
How in the world do you feel like anything's happening there?
Is this going to be better? Yeah, it's going to
be better. Rob, the Jets are going to surprise some people.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
This year.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
What does that mean? I'll tell you this. They are
building something. I'll say that.

Speaker 11 (10:05):
What are they building?

Speaker 5 (10:07):
You're going to see it this year. They got a
team that's going to be out there and they're going
to surprise teams and win some games. Whatever the over-under
is with the Jets, I'm taking it over. I'll say that, Rob,
for this season. And they got three first-round picks this year,
after this year. So being able to get that quarterback
you're talking about or whatever it is, they're going to
be able to package something together.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
The Jets have gotten top quarterback.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
They haven't gotten the right one. No, they just won
the Super Bowl. What are you saying?

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Well, he wasn't right for that team. I'm talking about
you got to take– you can't just be drafting people
off of potential. You got to draft them for your team.
And I don't think they've done a good job of
doing that.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
And I got question marks for Aaron Glenn. I thought
he had an awful... It was bad. Awful first year
as a head coach.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
It was. Like, really, like, not naming the quarterback. Like, games. Oh,
that's right, with the media. With the media and stuff
like that.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
And he pushed back on Rich Cimini, who's covered the
team for 40 years.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
You know Rich Cimini was there when you played. Yeah,
for sure.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Rich has been there forever. And when Aaron Glenn, like,
I'm like... He was mad because Rich Cimini had a story.
I'm like, dude, he's been in that building for a
long time. He knows way more people than you know.
He's been around. He's a good reporter. He's going to
get information. Remember, he was so, sit up there. The
media asked him a question.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
He goes, ask Rich.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
You know, like he was so mad or couldn't believe
that a reporter had inside information.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
No, Rich got all the information. I know that for
a fact. Yes, right?

Speaker 5 (11:40):
During my day, yeah, yeah, for sure. But I think
you're right. He did a bad job year one.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
He did. He learned from it. He'll be better this year.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
I hope so because I thought he was awful. You
thought he should have been fired, right? Yeah, I would
have fired him. It was so bad. But you know me.
If you're not a part of solution, you're going to
get fired if I'm running anything. I'm in there. And
you know the NFL not for long. You got to
be real careful because– A lot of guys.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
What was his name? Nathaniel Hackett with Denver. One year. Done. Done.
He was awful. It was bad. Game one, you remember
the mismanagement? No, game one, he mismanaged the clock.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
And also, rather than having Russell Wilson try to get
a first down on.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
A play, he had to kick or kick like an
89-yard field goal or something.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
You know what I mean? But some ridiculous. It's like,
you brought Russell Wilson here. You're not going to let
him get.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
A first down? I remember that, yeah. Like game one?

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Not like the season on game one?

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
No, I remember.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
No, yeah, he was bad.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
But no, Aaron, I'm telling you, man, whatever the Jets
over under is this year, Rob, I'm going over.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
I'm going over. For sure.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
All right.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
I'm down on the Rams. I do not believe they're
going to win the Super Bowl. Kerry thinks they... I
think they're going to make the Super Bowl, yeah. Are
they going to win the Super Bowl, Kerry?

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Not win it. Okay.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Who you got winning it? I got the Ravens winning it.
So do I. Kerry and I on the same page.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Who do you have?

Speaker 3 (13:08):
We want to hear from you. Your Super Bowl winners.
Teams that you like, teams that you don't like. We
just want to get your input. Remember, this is a
radio show, not a podcast. We value your opinion. We
want to hear from you. Call in 877-99 on Fox
NFL season.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
About to kick off. Yes, sir.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Everybody and their uncle Rams, Rams, Rams. I'm not buying it.
Kerry's not buying it. Who do you have and why
as we kick off the NFL season this week? It
is a Labor Day. Rob Parker, Kerry Rhodes. In for
Dan and the Danettes right here on Fox Sports Radio.

(13:49):
Stick and stay.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Unless you're a Ram fan in the USA.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
It's not. That's right.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Switch to life-saving, wet, extra-large, flushable dude wipes because wetter
just cleans better. No doubt about it. Available at Amazon
and at major retailers nationwide.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Dude wipes. Best clean. Pants down.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Adam Kaplan coming up in about eight minutes here on
the Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
We're taking your phone calls. NFL season's about to kick off.
Who you got? Who do you think is getting to
the Super Bowl? Who's winning the Super Bowl if you've
gone that far? Where are you? 877-99 on Fox.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
We got some calls, Rob. We're going to see what
the people got to say about the teams. We got
Trevon from New York. You're on with the Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Trevon. Trevon, you there? Yeah, I'm there. Okay. What you got?

Speaker 6 (15:55):
So I'll say that the Rams is a good team,
but I'm a Patriots fan. So I think the Patriots
are going to go back to the Super Bowl and
win it. But on the Rams side, they have Trent McDuffie,
Miles Garrett, and Aaron Donald. So that defensive core is

(16:16):
going to be very dangerous in the NFL. But I
think the Patriots are going to win it.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Okay. Patriots, Homer called. Thank you. They got no shot.
877-99 on Fox. And Jerome from New York, too, talking
about the Patriots. Patriots. Oh, my goodness. Get out of here.
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Like, last year, they didn't beat anybody. Like, that was
the thing. And I'm not knocking them. That was on
the schedule.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
Yeah. They beat one team over 500 last year, which
is just crazy. They made it all the way to
the Super Bowl. Yeah. They got an easy schedule for
sure last year. Let's see.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
We're going to move on from Chip. We got Chip
from Orlando. You're on with the Dan Patrick Show, man.

Speaker 10 (16:50):
Hey, great show, Dan.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Keep it up.

Speaker 10 (16:52):
And, yeah, two thumbs up on the dude wipes. Keep
that going, too. I like the Colts.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yes, dude wipes.

Speaker 11 (16:59):
Good, good.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Definitely a good thing, no doubt.

Speaker 10 (17:03):
The Colts are just a tremendous value. This is not
a homer pick. I don't think it was a fluke.
They went, what, 8-0, 9-1, and then decimated by injuries.
They might have the best running back in the league,
at least top three. Daniel Jones can play.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
I'm not convinced he can play I'm not because I'm
going to say this and I'll push back when they
were winning again go look at the schedule when they
started to play some of the better teams Daniel Jones
turned into a pumpkin go look at his numbers and
I'm not convinced that he's that good of a quarterback
that we saw at the start of the season if

(17:40):
I'm wrong I'll admit I'm wrong but I'm not a
Daniel Jones guy I.

Speaker 10 (17:45):
Just think the value's there for the Colts. I think
it's a great bet besides all the favorites that are
out there. The kicking game is outstanding. Special teams, they
got the old guy from Notre Dame. He can flat-out
coach special teams.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
So you got them going to the Super Bowl, right?
You got them going to the Super Bowl? I think it's, yes.

Speaker 10 (18:06):
I think it's worth $ 100.

Speaker 12 (18:07):
All right.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
I got you. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it. 877-99
on Fox. Yeah, the Colts are going to finish last
in that division. I got one for you, too. What
do you got? I think the Lions are going to
miss the playoffs again. I said that as well. I agree.
I agree. You got them in last place. I got
them in last place in that division.

Speaker 8 (18:25):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
Yeah, it's crazy, right? I think Minnesota's going to play
a little better. Their defense is really good.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Everything's good except the quarterback. Exactly. If they get a
decent quarterback, right?

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
I mean, Chicago, Green Bay, they're going to make it.
Everybody has Chicago going all the way back. I don't
see that. Oh, they're not going all the way. No,
going back. They think they're going to fall like, oh,
that was a fluke. No, they're not going back. No,
they'll make the playoffs as well.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (18:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Let's see.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
We got John from Maine. You're on with the Dan
Patrick Show, brother.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
How are you?

Speaker 9 (18:55):
Hey, guys. Just driving up to work, and I just
wanted to say, excuse me if I stumble over this,
but you two make a great team. Kerry, every time
I listen to you, you remind me of my father.
He always found the positives in things, and even if

(19:17):
he found the negatives, he always had things to back
it up.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
There you go.

Speaker 9 (19:21):
Thank you. You and Rob.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yes.

Speaker 9 (19:26):
Rob, you're like me. Excitable and things like that. My
father would always have to reign me.

Speaker 12 (19:35):
In.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
That is.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
There it is. That's perfect. That is perfect. Who you
got for... You got any Super Bowl ideas or picks?

Speaker 9 (19:43):
I am a Packer fan through and through.

Speaker 10 (19:46):
I was born a Cheez-It.

Speaker 7 (19:49):
And.

Speaker 9 (19:50):
I just don't know what to expect from them. They
can either go north or they can go south in
a hurry. Their team just has to prove that they're
a good team to compete. I think the Rams have
a great shot, but with that talent, they have to
back it up. They have to dominate and prove that

(20:13):
they should win the Super Bowl. That's all I wanted
to say.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 9 (20:21):
I just want to compliment you guys. Kerry and Rob,
you make a great team together.

Speaker 8 (20:27):
I think you two should.

Speaker 12 (20:30):
Keep together.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Thank you, buddy. Appreciate that. Thank you, John. Appreciate you, brother. Yeah,
Kelvin don't want to hear that. I'm just saying. Appreciate that. And, yeah,
he's working, too, on this Labor Day. He is, yeah.
Just like us. Getting up the road. Getting up the road.
877-99 on Fox. We're going to squeeze in a couple
more before Adam Kaplan. Yeah, we'll get in. We'll get in.
Jay from Montana. You're on with the Dan Patrick Show, man.
How are you? Jay, you there? I think we lost him.

(20:56):
All right, let's go. Let's move on. We got the
next one. We got Rick from Florida. You're on with
the Dan Patrick show, man. How are you?

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Hey, good, gentlemen.

Speaker 12 (21:04):
As much as I hate to agree with you, I
love the Rams, lifelong Rams fan. I think what's going
to keep them out is their wide receiver depth.

Speaker 10 (21:13):
They're just too injury-prone.

Speaker 12 (21:14):
It's probably going to cost them home field advantage.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
And that was last year. You know that. The home
field advantage is huge.

Speaker 4 (21:22):
Absolutely.

Speaker 8 (21:23):
Yes, absolutely.

Speaker 12 (21:24):
And that's the only thing that didn't address me off-season,
a little more depth of wide receiver, otherwise I'd be
all in for the Rams. So that being said, as
a long shot, I still like Buffalo to finally come through.
I know everybody probably thinks I'm crazy, but if it's
going to be this year, everybody's been saying that.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
This should be their year.

Speaker 12 (21:43):
Thanks for the golf, guys.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Thank you. Appreciate it. One last one. We got one
last one? We got one more.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
Yeah, we got Kelvin from Culver City. You're on with
the Dan Patrick show. Should be Kevin, right?

Speaker 2 (21:53):
It is Kevin. Yep, Kevin. God is good. How you doing, Kev?
All the time. That's right. What's up, Kev? How you doing?
What you doing up early? My guy, Rob.

Speaker 8 (22:02):
I got to get on the show.

Speaker 10 (22:03):
Rob's hosting the show.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
My boy, Kerry.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Come on now.

Speaker 8 (22:07):
Look, here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
I think nobody's talked about this, the staff. I think
the Rams have so much of the experience on that.
I'll call you right back.

Speaker 8 (22:14):
With Sean McVay.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Wait a minute.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Whose phone is that? Oh, okay. Go ahead, Kevin.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
You got so much experience on that coaching staff with
Sean McVay, Anais Chalbos. You got my boy, Jimmy Lake.
You got the defensive coordinator, Chris Shula.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
So why didn't they win last year?

Speaker 8 (22:33):
Well, here's the thing. You got so much talent in
Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald, and then the back end.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Kerry, you know this better than anybody. Fred McDuffie, Jalen Watson.
You still got Cam Curl back there, Quinn Lake. And
I think when you're playing a team like.

Speaker 8 (22:46):
Buffalo, possibly in the Super Bowl, I think Miles Garrett's
the difference maker because he's going to set the edge,
and you got Aaron Donald up the middle.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Patriots were undefeated, and they didn't win the Super Bowl. Exactly.

Speaker 8 (22:59):
But look, look, look.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
They're young.

Speaker 8 (23:01):
You guys said the Ravens. I said the Bills.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
Those both head coaches are young.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
No experience.

Speaker 8 (23:07):
Joe Brady, your boy.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
From the San Diego Chargers, it's Jimmy Minter, Jesse Minter,
it's too much. It's not enough experience. So I think
the Rams, with that firepower, the guys said they don't
have receiving depth.

Speaker 8 (23:19):
They just got 2-2.

Speaker 4 (23:20):
They got C.J.

Speaker 6 (23:22):
Daniels.

Speaker 8 (23:22):
You got Puka Nakua. Devontae Adams is more battle-tested than anybody.
He's going to be ready anytime.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Here's my only problem.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Devontae Adams is 0-5 in NFC Championship games.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Can you believe that? Is he 0-5? He's never. You know,
he's been on the doorstep of getting to the Super
Bowl five times. Never got there. Ooh. Kevin didn't know that.
It'll change this year.

Speaker 11 (23:43):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (23:43):
They're getting there.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
I'm just saying. All right.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
I'm not buying it. All right, let's get more NFL talk.
Let's welcome in Adam Kaplan, one of the best in
the business, Fox Sports Radio, NFL insider, Mr.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
Kaplan.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Good morning on this Labor Day to Dan Patrick show.
Rob Parker, Kerry Rhodes. What's up, buddy?

Speaker 11 (24:04):
Guys, good to talk to you, as we do every week.
Here we are, weird, week one in the National Football League.
Our first Wednesday game. How about that?

Speaker 4 (24:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
It's always, eventually it'll be every day of the week,
which is just ridiculous.

Speaker 11 (24:18):
Makes money.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Yeah. Yeah, but sometimes you can overexpose it, too.

Speaker 12 (24:22):
It is.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
I remember Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was a
big hit on television.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
Do you remember?

Speaker 4 (24:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yes. We just filmed it, and then they put it
on every night and killed it.

Speaker 8 (24:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
Killed it.

Speaker 11 (24:34):
Yeah, my late great friend Chris Mortensen and I would
battle over whether the NFL should have a seventh playoff team.
I was against it, but you know what? I think
it's actually worked. As an old school fan and someone
who's covered this business for nearly three decades, actually, I

(24:54):
like it. Now, Rob, you being a baseball guy... When
they started having these wild cards.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
I was a little skeptical. You know what? I was
skeptical for sure. But actually, you know what? I like it.

Speaker 11 (25:05):
I don't know about you guys, but I like it.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
No, it's gotten there. It's grown on me. There's no
doubt about it. I just don't want to get to
the NBA or the NHL where more than half of
the league makes the playoffs. That's where you negate the
regular season. And people go, in the NBA, oh, I
don't have to watch until May or April, right?

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Something like that.

Speaker 11 (25:24):
Kerry, real quick, where are you as a former player on– A,
having a game on Wednesday. I don't know how mentally
that works.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
And B.

Speaker 11 (25:33):
What do you think of having that extra playoff team
in each conference? I'm just curious.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
Yeah, the extra playoff team is pretty cool. I think
a lot of teams were on the cusp, and it'll
always be somebody on the cusp outside looking in that
was almost getting in. But when it was six, it
was tough because there were so many good teams that
weren't making it or getting that chance. I remember in
08 when we had Brett Favre and we missed out
by a game. If we get in the playoffs, we

(25:58):
think we have a chance to win. So bringing that
extra team in was– Was pretty cool. But playing on Wednesday,
that's just ridiculous. You can't play games during that time.

Speaker 11 (26:08):
Guys, I can't. I'm okay with Thursday night games. I
really like, now this is a little bit harder for
those of you guys on the West Coast, but I
love the 9.30 Eastern, 6.30 AM West Coast time for
those international games on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (26:22):
Wednesday, I don't know how it feels. It's weird.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
All it is is they just continue to– they want
to make these games that are normally– like everything be
a national game, which you get more money rather than
it being regional.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
That's all this is. It's just like, yeah, if we
go do.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
An international game and it's on whatever, it becomes a
national game, not just a regional, and we can charge–
more money.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
All right, let's get into some football.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
The Rams, are they making a mistake by getting off
the plane and going straight to the ballpark? I mean,
I just don't even... I've been to Australia. Kerry's been
to Australia. Have you been there, Adam?

Speaker 2 (27:01):
It's a kick-ass flight. My God.

Speaker 11 (27:03):
I know. It's a cool country. But my understanding, the
Rams do the study on so-called biorhythms and whether you
should get there late in the week. Some teams, when
they travel internationally, they'll go there for the whole week.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
Right.

Speaker 11 (27:18):
It's what the data shows. And that's my belief based
on what I was told on why they're doing it
the way that they're doing it. But not every team
does it that way. Like, for instance, let's say you're
an East Coast team that's playing the Seahawks.

Speaker 8 (27:31):
Right.

Speaker 11 (27:32):
Some teams want to get there on Friday. They want
to get used to the time difference. Some teams know
we're going to get there Saturday just like we would.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
We're not going to.

Speaker 11 (27:39):
Adjust to the time difference. It's whatever you think works
for you.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Yeah, it's going to be interesting there.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
I want to ask you about the Ravens and your
thoughts on them.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Kerry and I both have them going to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 8 (27:54):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Both of us. We do.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
I just think now that Jim Harbaugh is not there,
they got a good shot. I'm down. John Harbaugh. I
was down on him his last few years. That team
was sloppy. Yeah, there were leaks about him too, like over-practicing.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Right.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Like there was just something that was wrong because I
used to look at that team and go, how has
this team not gotten there?

Speaker 2 (28:15):
You know what?

Speaker 3 (28:16):
With the players that they had. I remember two years,
was it last year? They went to Buffalo, scored 40
points in week one.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Do you remember that? That was last year, yeah. And
lost the game.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
So, I don't know. Where are you on Baltimore?

Speaker 11 (28:29):
Yeah, I spent a day. I was at their training camp.
And they look so, guys, they look completely different. This
is not your old school Ravens. They are actually going
to throw the football.

Speaker 13 (28:37):
Yep.

Speaker 11 (28:38):
Declan Doyle, their 30-year-old offensive coordinator. He's a Sean Payton disciple.
His first work in the NFL was Sean, and then
he had one year with Ben Johnson last year. As
a non-play-calling OC, this is his first year calling plays.
They're not using a fullback for the first time in
a decade. It's going to look completely different. I like it.
I like what I saw. It looks like it's very

(29:01):
West Coast, this offense. That's a scheme. They've gotten younger
at receiver. Jacoby Lane, their third-round pick out of USC,
had a great camp, by the way. They were very
high on him. I'm excited to see him as well, Adam. Kerry,
he had a great camp. And what I find is
interesting on him is so many teams were.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Split on him.

Speaker 11 (29:19):
I had one team, like I spoke to one receiver's coach,
he's one of the best in the National Football League.
He goes, I'm just going to tell you, they didn't
give me art. Our front office didn't give me tape.
They didn't give me one of the 20 receivers to watch.
I was like, how's that possible? That wasn't the third
round because they didn't like him. I was like, you
got to tell. He's like, and he's like, I can't
tell you why they didn't like him because he's not

(29:40):
on my list. I didn't see him. But overall, guys,
it's going to look different. I've got them absolutely as
one of my top seven teams. I do sort of
like a top 10 and bottom 10 in the NFL.
They are absolutely my top 10 and I can't wait
to see this because it's always been conservative and yes,
Derrick Henry's still there. But I want to see what

(30:02):
this young OC brings to the table.

Speaker 5 (30:04):
Yeah, no, I'm excited. I think we both are. I
think they're a team where they're so talented. They've had
moments of being there and being in the mix. But
infusing it with some new life with, you know, with
Mentor and those guys, I think it's going to bode
well for Lamar to actually step into that space and
be that guy.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
What about the Patriots and the whole scandal with Vrabel
and Mussini? And I guess ESPN and them did a
story and they made a couple players available to talk
about whether or not he had lost the locker room
and whatnot. Kerry and I just talked about it, and
it's all about winning and losing in this league. If
you win, people can say it's over and you move on.

(30:42):
If they don't win, then they'll wonder if there's been
some damage done.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Adam, where are you?

Speaker 11 (30:47):
All right, so this is what I know from someone
close to the Patriots. So there was a concern early
on when all that stuff came out that, as the
one person told me, that he loses stinger. That means
his ability to get on the players, as you brought up.
And there was a question. This person was very honest
with me that Mike has just got to be himself.

(31:09):
He can't worry about other stuff, and he sought the
help that he needed.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Right.

Speaker 11 (31:14):
And this person said after about three weeks, you wouldn't
even know anything that happened off the field on that
story that came out. And obviously, we don't need to
go over it again. But he's got it. And he's
a very interesting guy. He coaches really hard. Like, he's
on his players. But they know he loves them. And
I know that they think their roster is way better
than last season. But the thing is, their schedule is

(31:36):
way harder. And we need to acknowledge that. It's way harder.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Last year, they only beat one team that had over
500 rackers.

Speaker 11 (31:42):
Rob, look at this first four weeks.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (31:45):
The first four weeks.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (31:47):
Of course, Wednesday at Seattle. Hope against the Steelers, who
are one of my top six teams in the National
Football League. I'm probably the minority, but I love them.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
No, I'm with you on them.

Speaker 11 (31:54):
At Jacksonville and at Buffalo. Good luck finding a win there.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Right. You might be 0-4 to start after going to
the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
I mean, they're not going 1-4, but they're not going
to be 4-0. And it's going to be an uphill
battle for them for sure. I think they're going to
take a step back.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Kerry and I agree on one thing. I wonder where
you are on this.

Speaker 8 (32:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Kerry and I both have the Lions not making the playoffs. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 11 (32:14):
I don't have them either.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 11 (32:16):
Guys, I just taped a show.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
People in Detroit, they just turned the radio off. I
just did.

Speaker 11 (32:22):
I'm just going to tell you because it's going to
come out tomorrow. I did a show, an NFL show
about an hour ago, and I don't have the Lions
or Packers making the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Wow.

Speaker 11 (32:32):
I might be the minority.

Speaker 8 (32:33):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
You slid the Packers in there too, Adam?

Speaker 11 (32:35):
Yeah, they're not in. I don't have them in because, man,
Josh Jacobs' situation.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yep.

Speaker 11 (32:40):
And then, obviously, Parsons not being available early on.

Speaker 2 (32:42):
When is Parsons going to be available?

Speaker 11 (32:43):
Yeah, we don't know exactly.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
We don't even know.

Speaker 11 (32:45):
We don't know. No, he's out for the first four games,
by rule. He's got to be. That concerns me. Caleb Johnson,
in my reporting I put out last week, Steelers probably
would have cut him. But yet, he might wind up
starting for the Packers at running back. So, they got
some issues, guys. This is not... everybody's on them every
year and they underachieve in the playoffs. And then Matt

(33:06):
LaFleur is not a good playoff coach. Guy's a good coach.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
He's won. No, I'm with you.

Speaker 11 (33:10):
I don't have him in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
Like, seriously, even I can go back to that ill-fated
kick the field goal and not let Aaron Rodgers try to, like, you.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
Can never live that down for me. I'm sorry. I'd
rather Aaron Rodgers throw a pick.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Or an incomplete pass and whatever, and Tom Brady has
to start at the one-yard line.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Of course. Or whatever it was, but ain't no way
you could. Are you kidding me? Yeah, that was a
bad one. No, that was crazy.

Speaker 5 (33:36):
Adam, you don't have the Packers in your top seven,
so I'm intrigued at who you got making the playoffs
out of that NFC right now.

Speaker 11 (33:45):
All right, so my NFC playoff teams would be the Cowboys,
the Eagles, the Bears are going to win the NFC North.

Speaker 10 (33:51):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Okay.

Speaker 11 (33:52):
Whoever wins the NFC South.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
Whoever wins it. Not Atlanta? No. The Rams.

Speaker 11 (34:00):
The Bucs is who I have. The Rams. The Niners.
And the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
There's my seven. You got the Niners getting in. Okay.

Speaker 5 (34:07):
I know.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
That's the one. That's the one.

Speaker 11 (34:09):
You know, it took me like five minutes because I
take the stuff. I had to do an hour show earlier.

Speaker 4 (34:13):
Yeah. Why?

Speaker 11 (34:14):
And I have to explain it. It's really tough because
I just, I don't see Minnesota at all with the
quarterback situation.

Speaker 7 (34:21):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 11 (34:22):
But the Lions, they were my breakout team four years ago.
I was down on them last season. They still have
not gotten right on defense in the secondary. Too many injuries.
Lost Tarion Arnold. They got forced to cut. They didn't
trust him. They had pass rush issues. One guy could
rush the passer. The great Hutchinson. And they got corner problems.
And their safety should come back from injuries.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
That's right.

Speaker 11 (34:44):
Too many problems to overcome, guys.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Yeah. Justin Herbert. Can he win a playoff game? I know, man.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
He's gotten the biggest pass in the NFL.

Speaker 11 (34:56):
I don't disagree.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
People love him.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
Size, arm strength, all those things they love about him,
but he hasn't, and I don't know what the numbers are,
post-season numbers, but if I touched them, I'd have to
wash my hands because they haven't been good at them,
and at some point.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
Don't laugh at me.

Speaker 11 (35:15):
Did you write that down?

Speaker 2 (35:17):
That was off the cusp. Sometimes, you have to start winning, right?

Speaker 11 (35:23):
Well, they got the O.C. Mike McDaniel's brilliant.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
I mean, I.

Speaker 11 (35:27):
And the thing that's interesting about Justin Herbert, guys, is
he was not a good processor when he came out
of Oregon. He was a see it, throw it, hold
the ball, hold the ball and throw a fastball. He
processes better. I just like this offense, the way they're
going to scheme it up. They're going to be a
good team. They kind of overachieved on defense. And remember now,
let's not forget Jesse Minter is no longer there. They

(35:48):
got a new defensive coordinator in Chris O'Leary. Um, They're
going to be around nine or ten wins. I put
them in the playoffs because, guys, I'm probably the only
person who covers the NFL that's not of the Chiefs
in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
I don't. I did it last year when it wasn't. Remember,
I called it last year.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
I haven't gotten my choices down yet, Adam, but I
might be with you.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
I really... I don't see it.

Speaker 11 (36:13):
And I do radio in Kansas City every Thursday, and
I'm going to get bleeped on Thursday when I.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
Tell them this. That's okay.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
People were mad at me last year that I was
just a hater and this and that.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
And you might be on to something. All right, Adam Kaplan,
can't wait. Football season, of course, we'll be chiming in
with you. Thanks for joining us here on the Dance Guys.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
See you. No doubt. All right, we're going to wrap
this bad boy up. I can't believe it. Kerry, what happened?
I don't know. I didn't even get to eat my
second piece of chicken yet. You had one and a half.
I know. I need another one. Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
All right, we'll do that. We'll talk more NFL. The
season is about to kick off this week. It is
the Dan Patrick Show. Odd Couple coming up tonight, 7
to 10 Eastern. Don't forget to join us there or

Speaker 2 (38:18):
If you're working, hey, more power to you, just like us,
if you're working. Getting it done.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
And if you're not enjoying, enjoy that as well. And
we're going to send a shout-out to Kerry Rhodes' mom.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Who is working and listening. She's working right now. Working
nine to five. She's out there working.

Speaker 4 (38:35):
Man.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
Tell your mama, we're saying hello, sending love to you
from Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
Hi, mom. Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
And we're going to wrap up this show, talking some
more NFL, go over some games. Carrie, we'll... Julia and
our producer will throw out some games, and we'll just
kind of talk about that. Man, the three hours went
by so fast.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
They really did.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
Yeah, it was really fast, really great morning. But Kerry
and I have worked together. I know some people maybe
have never heard us together on. But, yeah, we've worked
together over the years.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Absolutely. All right, Julia, what do we got?

Speaker 13 (39:07):
All right, we're going to start off with Wednesday. We
got Patriots at Seahawks, the Super Bowl rematch. Who you
guys got? You want to go first, Rob, or you
want me to go first? You playing the NFL. I've
only covered it since 1987. You've covered it for a while, man.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
Dude, when I think, I covered Lawrence Taylor.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Can you believe that? Like, I was a writer for
the Daily News in New York.

Speaker 1 (39:29):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
And I was never to cover the team as a
full-time beat, but I covered, you know, sidebars, and I
went to all the games, and Lawrence Taylor and all
those teams and whatnot. I have a great old picture
of me and... a press conference kind of a setting.
And you see, I'm sitting there with my notepad or whatever.
And Bill Parcells, a young Bill Parcells is there addressing

(39:53):
the media.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
No, that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (39:54):
You've been around for some greatness. But I'm going to
pick that first game. I'm going to take the, I'm
going to take the defending champions to come out and, um,
and win game one in the rematch of the Superbowl.

Speaker 10 (40:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
I am too.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
I'm not a big Sam Darnold. I call him, uh,
Sam Ronald McDonald. But I just want the Patriots to
lose as much as possible. Can they go 0-4 to start?

Speaker 5 (40:19):
If they go 0-4, nah, that.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
Ain't going to work. Let's bet some wings. We'll bet
some wings. Wing stop. Wing stop. Okay. Yeah, 0-4. 10-piece.
Just 0-4. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
0-4.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
That's it. I'm going to go. They start the season 0-4.
There's no way they're going 0-4. There you go. Yeah.
All right. 49ers Rams.

Speaker 3 (40:35):
Diana Rossini won't break that story. Oh, no, Jonas Knox,
don't even come in here. I thought we could slip out.
I figured he would come in. He wanted to see you, too.
He's doing the herd. So I figured that we would
actually leave the building and then he would show up
because he would be late for the show anyway.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
No, he's not. Julian, what do you got? What you got, Julian?
All right, let's go a different direction. Jets, Titans for Kerry.
Easy money, baby.

Speaker 5 (41:02):
Jets start out 1-0 in the big year, and we're
going to keep the momentum going for the rest of
the season.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Rob, 1-0 Jets, baby. That's my lock. I'm going with
the Titans. Hope the Jets get drubbed.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
Can Geno throw four interceptions?

Speaker 9 (41:15):
Why?

Speaker 2 (41:15):
That's where I'm at.

Speaker 4 (41:16):
Why?

Speaker 2 (41:18):
Kerry's so hurt. He's like, why? Why are you doing
that to my team? Leave him alone. Julie, go one more.
Real quick, let's do Bill's Texans. Ooh, that's a good one. C.J.
Stroud playing for a big contract.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
He is.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
He's got to play.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
I'm going to go with the Texans in that game because—
I love their defense. They had a Super Bowl defense
last year, Kerry.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
They should have gone to the Super Bowl. Am I right? Yes.
If CJ just played regular, not great. Regular.

Speaker 8 (41:45):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
I agree with you, Rob. I'm going to take the
Texans in that first one. And you know why.

Speaker 5 (41:49):
My high school teammate is going to have them boys
ready to go. D'Amico Ryan's head coach. I'm taking the Texans.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
Okay. There you go.

Speaker 3 (41:58):
One more?

Speaker 2 (41:58):
Real quick? Real quick. Broncos Chiefs. Wow. I'm going to
take the Broncos. Where is it at? In Kansas City.
I'm going to take the Chiefs in game one. All right.

Speaker 3 (42:09):
Well, everybody, thanks for listening to the Dan Patrick Show
here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
Kerry Rhodes, always. Always, brother. My man, Julian. Mark, thank you, guys.
And we'll see you tonight on The Odd Couple.
