Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh, it's our one on this Tuesday, Dan and the
Dan Nuts Dan Patrick Show. Seaton's on the road. I
think he's in Indianapolis. He was going to go to
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this morning, and I said, well,
why don't you join us in about forty five minutes
from now. He's in the Makeo Van. Apparently he scratched
up the Makeo Van. That's cool, but then we'll just
(00:26):
ask Mako to fix the Makeo Van. That'd be weird
to take the Makeo van into a Maco store. But
Seaton's on the road, going to Vegas, where we'll be
the following week for Formula One. Reggie Miller will stop
by a little later on Chase Daniel, our favorite breaking
down film. And I'm curious what he sees with some
(00:47):
of these quarterbacks, including the situation with the Giants. Brian
Dable gets fired. We talked about this yesterday and even
when the season started. I said that after ten games,
if he's won in none or two and eight, he's
probably going to get fired. The question would be when
would he go to Jackson Dart. He went to Jackson
Dart earlier than we thought, because I think he realized
(01:08):
what he didn't have with Russell Wilson. He played him,
he wrote him, and all of a sudden, you've got
a quarterback who has played seven games and he has
been in concussion protocol or examined for concussion four times.
How much of that is on Jackson Dart and how
much of that is on Brian Dable. Now the problem
that you had with Brian Dabele When Jackson Dart got
(01:31):
hurt a couple of weeks ago and Brian Dabele was
yelling into the blue tent, that's a bad, bad sign
that it felt like he was desperate. You've got to
get back out there, help me save my job, which
he wasn't able to do. But they have their quarterback
now they need a coach. We'll talk to Chase Daniel
about that as well. And also I want him to
(01:51):
break down what he sees with Jordan Love because it
feels like he's a top ten quarterback, but he doesn't
play like a top ten quarterback. He has those glimpses
and he's getting paid like he's a top ten, top
five quarterback. But I'm watching last night. I kept thinking,
this defense is really good. That offense is not good
(02:13):
at all. And the Eagles, you know, you kind of
carve out a win. They wasn't pretty, but they got
a win and a big win when you beat the
Packers on the road, and that could be you know,
down the road with home field advantage. But you know,
this is really big if you're the Packers and you're
leading the division to now your third and the Bears
(02:36):
I still think are a playoff caliber team. The Vikings,
we saw what they could do. They beat Detroit. The
Lions I still think are the class there. So that
is not an easy division to navigate there. But I'm
watching last night and I kept thinking, come on, guys,
let's go, let's get going. And it never happened.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
When the season began, I started to look at Green
Bay and green Bay and the Rams were the other
two teams I thought of aside from the Lions to
represent the NFC. I thought that much of them, and
then you added Michael Parsons and I thought, okay, you
know we're gonna get something special here. Well, the Rams
have lived up to the billing. I think the Lions have,
but the Packers. You thought sturdy offensive line, reliable run game,
(03:18):
you got a respected head coach, and you've got a
quarterback on the rise, and and now they're five to
three and one, and in those three losses they've scored thirteen,
sixteen and seven points. I need more out of a
quarterback than I'm paying two hundred and twenty million dollars.
And it's not like the Packers are broken. But if
you don't start scoring some points, that championship window is
(03:41):
going to close a whole lot quicker than you thought.
Here's Jordan Love after the game.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
We're not getting any consistency right now. We're not getting
into a rhythm.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
We'll have a good play here and then it kind
of just will have a negative play. Whether it's a
lot of things, whether it's a turnover, penalty, drop sack,
you know, it's a lot of things. So it's just
find ways to keep the positive plays going and avoid
these negative plays that we're getting. But I think we're
just kind of shooting ourselves in the foot right now
and getting in the funk of, you know, having some
(04:13):
good plays and then not building off them properly, and
you know, having a play that might hurt the drive
and we can't overcome it.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
So Philly improves to seven and two. By the way,
the uniforms, let's decide what kind of green we're going with.
How about we pick a green and keep stay with it.
It's not a good look. I'm talking about the Eagles. Packers'
uniforms look awesome except for the throwbagging up forms that
should have been thrown away. Hey we got throwback uniforms.
(04:41):
No throw those away. Philly improves to seven into green
Bay five three and one. I'm not surprised the Giants
fired Brian Dable, but then you keep your GM. And
I'm trying to get this straight, and Paulie, maybe you
can set me straight if I veer off course here.
But Brian Dable wanted Jackson Dart Joe Shane. The GM
(05:04):
didn't want Jackson Dart. But then Jackson Dart might be
the reason why the GM keeps his job. But the
coach lost his job and he was the one all
in on Jackson Dart as his quarterback.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
Yeah, you nailed it, okay, But isn't this a classic
general manager wants to save his own jobs, so he
recommends firing the head coach to make a statement to
the fans, but not fire himself. That's usually how it
is with the GM.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
You fire a coach to save your own.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Job, unless you're in Miami and then they fire the
GM and then the coach keeps his job.
Speaker 7 (05:39):
That's down South.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yeah, yeah, I don't understand. I mean, look, Brian Dable
the last three years, you're not keeping your job. But
if you win that game against the Bears, does Brian
Dabele still coach the Giants and they were beating the
Bears the whole game, Jackson Dart gets hurt and all
(06:00):
of a sudden, Caleb Williams comes to the rescue. But
if you win that game, I'm always curious. You know,
it's rare when you win a game and then you
get fired in any sport. But here you have that
situation where, you know, blowing these fourth quarter leads for
fourth quarter leads, double digit fourth quarter leads the game
in Denver, Like, you can't have situations like that, Like
(06:23):
you want to have continuity, sustainability, then you can't let
those games go. Great teams, great quarterbacks, great coaches don't
let those games go. And that's what the Giants did.
And you're going to point the finger to Brian Dable
and he pays the price. But you know, the Giants
can't find a coach. Look at all the coaches that
(06:44):
they've had, I mean the Ben mcadoo's situation, the era
Joe Judge was going to be the next Bill Belichick.
I mean, Tom Conflin's not walking through the door. Bill
Parcell's not walking through the door. Hell you might. We'll
reach out to Bill Belichick, bring him in, see if
(07:04):
he wants to coach the g Men. Yeah, Paulie, And historically.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
The New York Giants were one of those franchises that's
never awful. You know, they will you know, like a
seven win season was bad for them. They haven't won
ten games since twenty sixteen.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
That's a stretch.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Starting lineup. Fritzy's here, Dylan in for Seaton, Marv Pauli
yours truly in the BRGS. We'll have a poll question
coming up. Yes, Dylan.
Speaker 8 (07:27):
I was just gonna say, if you're a new head
coach getting hired by the Jets or Giants, how aware,
like in the back of your mind are you that
you're going to get fired? Because it seems like it's
just been an inevitability.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Well, I don't think you can think it, but I
don't think there's a situation with like Pete Carroll could
get fired. He could get fired by the Raiders. Andy
Reid is safe, Mike Tomlin is Like how many coaches
Sean McVay is safe. Is Matt Lafleur safe if they
don't make the playoffs? Are we playing safe in I
(08:00):
don't know? It's mid season? Okay, Pete Carroll, though, Is
Sean McDermott safe in Buffalo? And I know we want
to say, well, of course he is, But it feels
like every year we're like, I don't know Sean McDermott, yes.
Speaker 9 (08:15):
Marvin no, no, no, because he's on year four of
all right, it's time to get to the super Bowl now.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
But if he's getting fired, it's not during the regular season.
I'm talking about at the end of the season, regular season.
How many guys are untouchable. They're going to keep their
jobs no matter what. They keep their jobs. Yes, Dylan,
Is Mike Tomlin still on that list? I feel like
that's starting to wane. I don't think they would fire him.
(08:43):
You don't know, they don't do that. I mean, they've
had three coaches. I know in the history of the franchise,
you've had three coaches that would be a Mike. How
about how about we agree to move.
Speaker 7 (08:57):
On mutual parting of ways.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Yes, how about you and Aaron Rodgers go to Malibu,
hang out for a little while, and we'll try to
find your successor.
Speaker 7 (09:06):
Yes, Mark, Sean Payton is safe.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yes, Sean McVay is safe. Mike McDonald, by the way,
is the head coach in Seattle. He's safe. He might
be the coach of the year, although Mike Rabel is safe.
Mike McDaniel's not safe in Miami. Aaron Glenn is safe
ish right, He's gonna get at least two years out
(09:32):
of this. Yes, uh, Dylan.
Speaker 8 (09:35):
If we want to go based odds wise, who has
the worst odds to win Coach of the year.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Give us an idea.
Speaker 8 (09:43):
So all at the bottom, there's six guys who are
plus forty thousand. Pete Carroll is one of them, Mike McCoy,
Aaron Glenn, Brian Dables still on there, No, Dan Quinn
and Kevin Stefanski.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Yeah, so I think think you go into these jobs
like Brian Schottenheimer knows he's going to get fired. Right,
at some point, he'll probably get fired. I'm not saying
that he should. I mean, I hope that he gets
a couple of years to prove himself. But you kind
of go in if you take over Tennessee Carolina Cleveland Jets,
(10:23):
like you know you're going to get fired. The odds
are not in your favor. Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (10:29):
Two guys, Dan Campbell and Dan Quinn. I think they're
both safe.
Speaker 9 (10:33):
No matter what Dan Campbell is for sure, you don't
think Dan Quinn I hope he is. To me, you
got to an NFC championship game and this year just
might be you know what, Jayden was hurt?
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Oh, I know, I know, I agree.
Speaker 7 (10:47):
So just this season?
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah this season? Yes, but you do
you know you go into these situations where you know
that the odds are you're probably going to get fired. Yeah, pulling.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
It feels like if the Raiders continue to be awful,
they would let Pete Carroll walk off into the sunset
in a nice manner based off his history in the NFL. Hey, coach,
don't make us do anything you've had You've decided to retire.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Yes, and I would not be surprised if that happened
gues Ton.
Speaker 7 (11:22):
They're one game out of first right now.
Speaker 9 (11:24):
But if things go sideways with a favorable schedule, what
happens to John Harblaugh in the at the end of
the year.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
I think he's safe. I do, and I think that
they're you know, they're going to win that division, so
he is, he's safe. But I think that in the
beginning of the season and people are like, I don't know,
you know, can can you survive something like this? You
build up that equity and I think that, you know,
(11:50):
and you have ownership that doesn't react. You know, they're
not crazy people. They're not out in the media talking
all the time, you know. So John Harball is good, Yes, Marv.
Speaker 7 (11:59):
Nick Siriani never seen I never see.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Do you realize before he won the Super Bowl? During
the year, people are talking about if he doesn't win
the Super Bowl, he might not keep his job.
Speaker 7 (12:12):
He fired the OC and ThEC like, let's fire everybody to.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Keep his job.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
Yes, Paulie, they should have fired Nick Siriani last night
after the game.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Was only for that that fourth down and six.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
Fourth and sixth at the thirty five you throw into
the end zone.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I was like, okay, are they gonna Are they gonna
run the ball because it's fourth down and Green Bay's
gonna get the ball. They'll stop the clock because you
know it'll be fourth down and turn it over on
downs and all of a sudden, you see Jalen Hurts,
who didn't have a good night, and you're gonna all
of a sudden like this is double coverage and a
precise pass that you're throwing it. Now, you might say,
(12:48):
well if he doesn't catch it and they intercept it,
then they're down inside the five. Okay, if you kick
a field goal, I make Jordan Love go all the
way to score a touch down to win. In this case,
he gets the ball, you get twenty five yards.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
You got a chance to tie the game. Yeah, Paulie, Yeah,
that would have been about a fifty yard field goal.
You make it a touchdown game that the Packers need
to score the length of the field. Your kicker, Jake Elliott,
he's three for four from fifty plus this year. Yeah,
it's a safe, much safer play.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
I didn't understand it.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
It.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
It was one of those where I go, oh boy,
as soon as Jalen Hurts went back to pass, and
I'm going no, no, because I realized it was a
pass downfield. It wasn't like I got Goddard over the
middle for seven and that's ball game. Yes, TuS.
Speaker 10 (13:40):
Is that an overconfidence in your offense or not enough
confidence in your defense?
Speaker 7 (13:43):
Well, if I'm a defender, I'm upset that we're not punting.
We can handle this for twenty twenty five seconds.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
But the offense hadn't been good all night long.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
So it doesn't make any sense to do that, to
run that play.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yes, yeah, Paulie.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
I love watching Peyton Manning in situations like this. As
the ball snap, he goes what we're doing here in
one word, what we're doing here.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
It's great.
Speaker 8 (14:03):
Yes, Dylan, it just screamed like I'm playing Madden. Like
I refused the punt. I'm not gonna kick. This is
a stupid play, but let's see how it goes.
Speaker 1 (14:12):

Oh, there's Maction coming up tonight. It'll be Ohio and
Western Michigan kicking off at Ain't Eastern on two. First
place is on the line in the mac Chase Daniel
ESPN NFL College Football analyst will be on the call tonight.
Are you feeling it? Are you feeling Maction tonight?
Speaker 6 (15:13):
I'm feeling it.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Man.
Speaker 11 (15:13):
I'm in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I landed at two am at
an airport I didn't even know they had and got
about six hours of sleep already starting to prep the man.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Maction is.
Speaker 11 (15:23):
It's awesome because it's great for the conference, it's great
for everyone. It's great for the players to get on
national television.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
So we'll be on E two and we're excited to
get going, man.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Did you get recruited by MAC schools?
Speaker 3 (15:35):
I did.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
I got recruited by MAC schools.
Speaker 11 (15:38):
But you know, there were some other options where I
didn't have to travel as far north from Texas, and
we got like a logjam up here at the top
of the conference. Ohio, Miami, Buffalo is really good, Western Michigan.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
The winner will be in the driver's seat for sure,
whoever wins tonight.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
I'm curious how you would assess last night's game that
there was great defense. But if I'm going to look
at Jordan Love and we've seen them have a couple
of the worst losses. You lose at home to Carolina,
and you lost it to the Cleveland Browns, And I
don't know if we keep thinking, Okay, he's the next,
you know, following line with Aaron and and Brett Fire,
(16:19):
where he might not be a great quarterback, he might
be a good quarterback and potentially a very good quarterback.
What do you see with Jordan Love that's missing here
in these three losses where they're not even getting twenty points.
Speaker 11 (16:33):
Yeah, it's brutal. And that's the thing, right, It's it's
the losses and how they lose because you score two
touchdowns in their losses, and they're winning these games. And
I think that's sort of been the issue. Was Jordan Love,
I think is a really good quarterback. Do I think
he has the ability to be a great quarterback someday?
Absolutely everyone thinks that, because we've seen short spurts of
(16:57):
consistent play now when stuff isn't right and the run
game isn't working for them and they're without Jayden Reed,
they've been without Tucker Craft for a few weeks. I
think that's where he struggles, and that's where he struggles
consistently making plays now. Last night it was freezing cold,
it was a tundra. It was such like a Green
Bay Packers game, and I just thought for sure they
(17:19):
were gonna pull it off.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
And every time they had a chance to.
Speaker 11 (17:22):
It was offensive penalty, misdrop, another penalty, and it just
they could never get in front of the sticks. And
I think that's sort of the issue that maybe some
Green Bay Packers fans are wondering, and some other fans
he's like, when is he gonna take that next step?
Because a couple of years ago before he was hurt.
Last year, he was hurt, like most of the year
was hurt, and I don't really judge quarterbacks when they're hurt.
(17:44):
I mean, look, he played alright, they didn't play great.
But two years ago, I think they started three and
three and they rerolled off six or seven in a row,
and everyone.
Speaker 6 (17:51):
Was like, oh my gosh, he's making the jump. Like
he's making the jump.
Speaker 11 (17:54):
And then it's just the inconsistent level of play because
you know, I don't know if he's a guy dan
that can elevate your team without ten other guys around
him playing well, Like I do, think ten other guys
around him have to play well, and then in cases
that they do, it's elevated. The play calling is weird
(18:16):
with Matt before. It's like, when I'm watching the game,
I'm like, can you take a shot down the field?
Can you throw the ball more than five yards? And
so they want to play this ball control. Offensively had
ten possessions last night and only scored seven points.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
It is brutal.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Help me understand the fourth and sixth call by Nick
Sirianni at the end of the game.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Yeah, I mean, dude, I don't know.
Speaker 11 (18:38):
I was listening to Detroit who called the game, and
I'm like, how would I handle that in an analyst role,
and I would say the same thing. I'm like, I
have just I have no answer for it whatsoever. And
then and then the play call too, it's just like, oh,
let's throw a jump ball to a J.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
Brown.
Speaker 11 (18:53):
I'm like, when he hasn't been involved all game one,
go to Devonte Smith, do a little slant route in
between the field. But yeah, I don't. I don't quite
get that sometimes, and for for for whatever reason, Nick Sirianni,
we saw it a couple times last year, these end
of game management situations where you're paid the big bucks
to be the head coach, you're you're not involved offensively
(19:16):
calling the plays, you're not involved defensively calling the place.
At times, that has sort of been his Achilles hill,
and you saw it last night. They're just lucky they
got out of there, because when McManus is lining up
for a sixty four yard field goal, I'm like, oh, dude,
it's going to go to overtime. And then and then
every talk show we'll be talking about this. Nick Sirianni'd
be like, hey, and so it sort of is slit underneath, right,
(19:38):
winning cures all.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
But it's one of those decisions where I'm sure he
wants back.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
But the result shouldn't change our opinion on this that
they did win. I'm looking at it going, you're lucky
you won because now you brought a field goal into play,
and have they gotten a little bit closer, then maybe
you're going to overtime in Green Bay and you have
this game. I just didn't understand the call. I get.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
Yeah, it's like, hey, I mean punmet Punnett.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Well like or kick a field goal?
Speaker 6 (20:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (20:07):
The field goal was I mean just I think he
was playing weather okay, and so he's in that sort
of because remember when you wherever the ball sat eight
yards back from the line, it gives them even closer.
So I can understand not the field goal there, but
pooch punnet like get it down to the ten.
Speaker 6 (20:23):
The way the Packers' offensive been playing, I think you're good.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
We're talking to Chase daniel Be on the call tonight.
It's Max in Ohio, Western Michigan. And how is Kalamazoo?
Which weather like in Kalamazoo?
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Dud?
Speaker 11 (20:37):
I just I just went downstairs for like a late
breakfast because I was doing some prep and I went
outside and like I live in San Diego, right, So
it's like seventy two and sunny every single day. My
wife was like, oh, you need to bring a jacket.
I was trying to get out the door and dude,
it's like twenty five degrees and snow on the ground.
So we're gonna have a maction game tonight, man.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Thirty seven degrees would kick off, by the way, there
you go, warm up a little, yeah, yeah, help me
under help me understand the Okay, Brian Dabele gets fired,
and I'm curious. It's like he's getting blamed for Jackson
Dart putting himself in harm's way. How does I want
to be fair to the situation here, because it feels
(21:18):
like Jackson Dart is going to play the way Jackson
Dart wants to play. But is what role does Brian
Dabele play in Jackson Dart getting banged up?
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (21:28):
Look, the narrative around that just it honestly makes me
upset and just mad and pissed off because I'm like,
at the end of the day, when you're playing football
as a quarterback, you have to protect yourself. I understand
these cold runs. We can't put it on Brian daveall
that Jackson Dart, you know, has been checked for four
concussions this year, had won and I get it, Like
(21:51):
that's who Jackson Dart is and will be in the
NFL until he's old and he can't run anymore and
he's got to become a pocket passer. That's what makes
Jackson Dart special. If you go back to his old
mis days, that's what makes him special. My one thing
about Jackson Dart, and this showed his ugly head the
old miss days, is he doesn't slide, like he doesn't
know when contact is close, even in the pocket, and
(22:13):
he can't have that feel you look at like Lamar Jackson,
completely different runner. I know that, but his pocket awareness
in his spiel where he never ever gets hit straight on,
it's the complete opposite with Jackson Dart. So at the
end of the day, as a quarterback, like the best
ability is availability, everyone said that, but if you can't
stay on the field for your team, because look, I
don't think Brian da Ball gets fired if the Giants
(22:36):
end up pulling that one off. Like that's when the
whole game changed, was when Jackson Dart went out. Because
so it's not only it's not only like what he
does on the field, but his leadership and ability and
everything about that.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
And look, it's just Brian da ball.
Speaker 11 (22:50):
I thought he was going to make it to the
end of the year, but the multiple blown double digit
leads just too much.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
I guess I mentioned this a little while ago, that
we get caught up on red zone and how good
somebody is because you saw them on red zone. When
you watch Caleb Williams the whole game, he didn't necessarily
play a great game, but he did have great moments,
and I think it fools a lot of people that
they go, man, Caleb Williams had a great game. When
(23:18):
he misses some easy throws, he still he gets you know,
turns his back to the defense and he's trying to
or yeah, defense, he's trying to make a play again.
And so how do you assess Caleb Williams to where
he is now to where he was, let's say, a
year ago.
Speaker 11 (23:35):
You sound exactly opposite of all my Twitter fans because
I cover Caleb Williams extensively, and everyone of I tweeted
out like, can Caleb.
Speaker 6 (23:43):
Williams just make a play? And then everyone particular.
Speaker 11 (23:45):
Well, he's had six drops. Well, the offensive line has
done that, and I'm with you. When I watched the
game and the breakdowns out on the YouTube channel right now,
I literally just did it.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
It's like twenty minutes.
Speaker 11 (23:57):
Long because there were some throws that without a trained
eye you would say are a little bit off, and
those drops can become catches if the ball is just
a little bit closer to the receiver. Now, I will say, though, Dan,
like there's something about him in this clutch Gene four
fourth quarter come from behind wins, and it's it's almost
(24:18):
like Caleb Williams when you watch this offense, it's almost
like he's not the main piece, right, And that's sort
of sort of weird to say, But if you look
at his numbers, if you look at the game until
the fourth quarter and then and when it comes to
the fourth quarter and sometimes the start of the game,
there's always that little lull in the middle of the
game for Caleb Williams, I will say, compared to this
(24:40):
year from last year, getting back finally answering your question,
sorry about that, I have seen a lot of growth
in him as a quarterback, meaning like I don't know
if he was as good under center play action Ben
Johnson type style stuff as he is this year. He's
understanding timing, he's understanding rhythm. He's never been a guy
that throw a lot of interceptions. But the one thing
(25:03):
that I will think and say that my ruffle little feathers, Like,
you know how much money the Chicago Bears offensive line
put into their interior three this year, a lot of
money in free agency.
Speaker 6 (25:15):
I don't think they played well at all.
Speaker 11 (25:17):
And I think that's affected Caleb Williams play because he's
getting back there one, two, three at the top of
his drop and he's having to move early and he's
doing this Houdini stuff because he's literally unsackable. But I
think that plays into it as well, along with the drops.
I just want to see better consistency, more consistent play
early in the game, throughout the whole game.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
What's going on with Bowneckt in the Denver offense.
Speaker 11 (25:44):
Yeah, look like Sean Payton's my guy, and I know
just about everyone on that offensive staff, and when I
watch games, I'm just seeing a wildly inconsistent quarterback in
the first three quarters. I mean, that's just what it is,
and it's it starts from the ground up right, Dan
like accuracy at any level of play, whether I'm coaching
(26:07):
my flag football team and my son's playing quarterback he's eight,
or if I'm coaching bo Nicks at the pro level.
At the highest you can't be accurate if you got
happy feet back there, and you can't be accurate and
run the offense unless your feet are stuck in the ground.
You're stepping to your target and you're throwing. And I
think he's gotten to a point where he is not
(26:28):
seeing it as well as maybe we thought he was,
and then so he's been really inaccurate because he doesn't
trust what he sees, and that whole offense does that
trust what they see and look even Sempayn days in
New Orleans, we would go through stretches like this where
it's up and it's down and it's really down and
it's really down and you're just like trying and they're
still winning games. My thing is, like, I would have
(26:51):
loved for them to go get a receiver at the
trade deadline. They obviously didn't do that. I don't know
if they have enough explosiveness outside to be really good,
but the way their defense is playing, I think they'll
be all right, and it's gonna be It's gonna be
interesting to see how this last season of the stretch
for them plays out.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
What if I said Drake May is the best quarterback
in the AFC.
Speaker 11 (27:17):
You would say, what Patrick Mahomes, because the Big three,
the Big four, right Mahomes, Burrow, Allen Jackson, that they
haven't been you know, Burrow's gone.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
But playing quarterback, I was playing the best quarterback in
the AC.
Speaker 11 (27:36):
It's but in my opinion right now, it's between Mahomes
and Drake May, and I would probably I'd probably give
you the nod to Drake May. Like the reason why
I say Mahomes is I know they're five to four
and I know they haven't been good.
Speaker 6 (27:49):
They've been like owned four and one score games.
Speaker 11 (27:51):
Is you just watch what he does on the film,
right Mahomes, and it's it's like twenty twenty one, twenty
two MVP Pat Mahomes. But then you turn on Drake
May's film and the amount of growth from last year
to this year with a new head coach, with a
new play caller, with a new coordinator, with with really
(28:12):
you know, people on that offense other than Diggs, people
don't know who they are, like I can't tell you,
and a lot of people can't tell you around the.
Speaker 6 (28:18):
Nation, like their number two receiver or their running back.
Speaker 11 (28:21):
Steven said that they had that was on the bench
that couldn't play because he didn't know the offense.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
And he's doing more with less.
Speaker 11 (28:28):
It's sort of like the Josh Allen thing of last
year where people were like, oh, well.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
Josh Allen, he's MVP. Look at how much he's doing
with less.
Speaker 11 (28:35):
And I just like the way Drake May's playing right
now because he's really confident.
Speaker 6 (28:40):
He's got this innate ability to move in.
Speaker 11 (28:42):
The pocket away from pressure but keep his eyes down
the field, which is really difficult to do for second
year quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (28:47):
And they're taking shots down the field.
Speaker 11 (28:49):
And I said this on our Scoot City podcast yesterday,
and I don't want to, you know, I don't want
to like say anything wrong. But when I watched when
I watched the film of Drake Man, I watched the
New England Patriots, how they operate on offense, how different
in personnel groupings they are, they're shifts and their motions,
their play calls, the way he's real it reminds me
(29:11):
a lot of those twelve days back in New England.
And I'm not saying necessarily he's gonna be Listen, No,
but listen, I'm not saying he's twelve. I'm not saying
he's Brady. But the way the offense is operating right
now in terms of how they're getting in and out
of plays, the shifts in the motions, and I know
I get that laugh out of you because I'm not
(29:32):
I just.
Speaker 6 (29:32):
Want to make sure I'm not saying that.
Speaker 11 (29:34):
Just the way the offense is on the field, it
does look like the Tom Brady days in terms of
how they're deploying offensively.
Speaker 6 (29:43):
To attack defenses.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Is Matthew Stafford doing anything different than he did when
he was in Detroit?
Speaker 11 (29:53):
Well, well, he's surrounded by a lot better players because
I was with him for that one year in Detroit,
and and I just think Sean McVay has brought out
the absolute best of them. I mean, like, if the
if the season ended today, he would be my MVP.
Twenty five touchdowns, two interceptions, thirteen touchdowns, no picks. In
the last three games, he's averaging like two hundred and
(30:14):
fifty passing yards a game. Now he has a cast
of characters that I would put up against anyone, right, DeVante, Adams,
Poking Nakua, Karon Williams, all those guys. And I think
what what Matthews has been able to do in LA
is great. Like it just seems crazy Dan that they
were about to get rid of Matthew Stafford over forty
million dollars, Like it just seems like such a bargain.
(30:36):
Remember that whole thing last this year, Like, oh well,
Stafford's gonna go to the Patriots, Safford's going to go
to this, Stafford's gonna go to that, and everything just
seems wow.
Speaker 6 (30:46):
And I think they're just such a great, great match.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Have fun tonight. I'll be watching with action with a
critical eye of you. Please, Okay, I need it. I
feel like I've gotten better. I feel like I haven't
talked as much because of you. So I just sort
of laid out. Let the maction environment speak for itself.
So I appreciate the help. Be stealth, though, be smart
when you jump in and you know that you have
(31:11):
a finite amount of time. But see something, say something,
get out. See something, say something, get out, And if
you somehow can give us a little nugget that we
don't see because you're you're football fans educated. But when
you say watch this, when I see this, it means
this little things. You played the position, and you know
(31:36):
when you get inside that quarterback's mind, it's like Romo
said on Sunday, when I've figured you out a defense,
they've figured you out, and then there was a touchdown
pass soon after that, Like it was really something very simple,
but he said, I've figured out the defense. They've figured
out the defense, and then you had a touchdown pass.
(31:58):
So when you give us those little nuggets, that's what
makes you stand out.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
I love it.
Speaker 6 (32:05):
Make the words count, don't count your words.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Absolutely, Thank you, buddy.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Thanks Dan.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
We talked to Reggie Miller earlier this morning, so about
three hours ago, and this was before the news that
Nico Harrison has been fired as the GM of the
Dallas Mavericks. So you will hear me ask Reggie about
the MAVs and Nico Harrison. He will be on the
call tonight, It's Coast to Coast at eight eastern on
NBC and Peacock. It'll be Reggie with Mike Tarico and
(32:47):
they will have the game. I opened up the interview
with Reggie and I talked about Kid Cunningham with forty
six shots, but it came in a win, and I
asked him the most shots that he ever took in
a game in his career.
Speaker 10 (33:02):
It's the most points I ever scored in a game,
fifty seven versus Charlotte, and I believe I took twenty
seven shots. And I was literally exhausted after that game.
But that was nothing. When you look at like MJ.
Kobe Carmelo, those volume scores. They put up a lot
(33:26):
of attempts. I was more on the efficiency side.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
I tried.
Speaker 10 (33:32):
I think during the course of a game, if I
got up eighteen shots, I thought that was pretty good
because a lot of few of those were threes. I
was getting to different throw lines. That's how I got
my you know, twenty two to thirty was just being
a little bit more efficient.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
I got you with twenty nine shots in that game.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Twenty nine, okay, twenty nine in that game. Twenty nine.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Yeah, okay, sixteen exhausted. Exhausted, That's what I tell people
when I would see Iverson, as small as he is,
but he had to put up at least twenty five
shots a game. That was their offense went through him.
I don't know how. You know, Mike and Kobe, those
guys who you knew they had to shoot, they knew
(34:17):
they had to shoot, and to put up those shots
every single night. I mean, imagine if I said to you,
you got to put up twenty nine shots a game.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
No way, There's just no way.
Speaker 10 (34:28):
I mean, people don't understand the physical toll it takes
to score at an elite level in the NBA. Now granted,
and think about this, he had forty five field goal attempts.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Remember he kid got foul.
Speaker 10 (34:42):
On a few shots too, so that easily could have
been like fifty fil golden tymps that he was attempting.
And this is coming off a game the night before,
So think about the exhaustion that he's going through.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
He took a hard foul in that game.
Speaker 10 (34:58):
But at the end of the day, you highlighted this,
they won the game and overtime, and what a game
that was.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
I think they're up to seven games in a row. Now,
it's one of.
Speaker 10 (35:08):
Those sneaky stories in the in this Eastern Conference that
really no one is talking about because they got off
to such a slow start this season.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Kobe took fifty shots. That was his last game I
think against the Jet fifty.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Wow, people understand.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
At the end of his career, he's taken fifty against
Hilly's injury. Yes, last game of your you know what.
Speaker 10 (35:33):
But I that I can see because look, if I'm
gonna go out, this is my last game, this is
my target goal.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Fitty, I'm going for fitty field goal to TIMPs.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
By the way, what's wrong with your Pacers?
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (35:50):
But still they had a lot of injury.
Speaker 10 (35:53):
Okay, it's been a it's been a very very difficult
start to this season for Rick carl At and the Pacers. Look,
it wasn't going to be easy. And you know, judging
from that first game when nim Hard went down versus
the Okay, see and there, they've had a rash of injuries.
And look, they are a team that when their whole,
(36:17):
they're great.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
When there's a few parts missing it in the Maserati, Uh,
it's like a pinto old school. That's old school. Remember
those pintal cars?
Speaker 2 (36:31):
I do, I do. What's the worst car you ever drove? O?
Speaker 10 (36:38):
Remember those Suzuki's, Dodge Suzuki's. I believe it was Corey Gaines,
my my roommate, you see away.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
He let me drive his Dodge Suzuki occasionally.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Wait, that's what they were paying players that you saw.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
They weren't paying His parents were.
Speaker 10 (36:59):
They have a little bit of money, So he let
me drive his dogs to Zuki.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
We're talking to Reggie Miller. He'll be on the call
with Mike Tarico tonight. And it's the Celtics and the Sixers.
Where is Joel Embiid? Now like this physically because I
know they got one of the best backcourds, but Embiid
is the key.
Speaker 10 (37:19):
He's the key, and he's still on a minister restriction.
I think they're hovering him around twenty five or twenty six,
and I think that's going to be the master plan
going forward for this season.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
I think you've heard or you've seen a few comments.
Speaker 10 (37:34):
Him Cup that he's come out and said, look, I'd
rather stay home and not play if you're going to
keep me on this minister restriction. I think the Sixers
are in this situation. Damned if you do, Damned if
you don't, because if you increase this minute now and
he gets hurt, everyone's going to jump up in arms
and be like, well, we told you to put him
on a minist restriction, and if he's on a minister restriction,
(37:57):
you've got the player. Embiid ain't about playing more minutes.
This is the safe approach because Dan, you know this.
He's injury from right and you want to have the
most healthiest version of Joel Embiid come April and May,
because we haven't seen that over the last several seasons. Heck,
(38:21):
we haven't even seen Paul George this year, so we
don't know what versions of the Sixers we're gonna see.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
You just mentioned this. They do have one of the
best basket back courts.
Speaker 10 (38:33):
In fact, they're leading all back courts and scoring between
Edgecombe and MAXI.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
So I know what I'm getting there.
Speaker 10 (38:40):
But you're right if Embeedd is healthy, and to me,
this is what the approach I would take if I'm
Nick Nurse and I am the staff of the Sixers
once the All Star breaks, I would take this approach
all the way up to the All Star Break. Once
the All Star Break goes, every game after that it
increases one to two minutes. So by the time, because
(39:01):
you only play about twenty five to thirty games after
the All Star break, I would increase his usage one
to two minutes every game, and by the end of
the regular season he's up to thirty four thirty five,
which that that's kind of what you would want. And
then you would hope he's in good enough shape come
(39:21):
playoff time when the level goes through the roof that
he's ready to go. But I need him healthy in
the end, and he hasn't shown that he can do that,
so keep him on the minis restriction.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Jeff t on his podcast got into a discussion about
Joker versus Shack. How how would they do against each other.
They were talking about Shaq in Orlando would dominate Joker,
but Joker with Shack after that, Joker, you know, because
(39:54):
he's inside outside that he would probably drive Shack crazy.
Speaker 10 (40:00):
And let me first start saying, you know, we're playing
in today's rules or we played in the Shack's rules
in the ninety thousands, Like which one do we get
to do? Does Shaq get to get it in the
post and turn and elt. You know this was Shack's
favorite move, and he got away with it. Today's game,
he wouldn't be able to get away with that. So
which rules are we playing with?
Speaker 3 (40:20):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (40:20):
If you said let's play today's rules and I got
Shack at his peak and Joker at his peak? Who
I think the.
Speaker 10 (40:27):
Fact dominates in any era? Let me start by saying that. Okay,
so it wouldn't matter. I just think they would put
Shaq in a ja zillion picking rolls in today's game
and get him out of the paint. Shaq would have
to cover more paint. Now, I do agree Orlando Shaq,
(40:48):
who is nimble and skinnier and could run all day,
I think he would thrive. I still think the most
dominant of Shaq when he was in LA and much bigger,
he would still have an effect on the game. How
would he do versus Joker? I mean I would love it. Oh,
I would love to see I'm still going with a
big fella. Look Shack, he died, He denied me on
(41:12):
a lot of occasions. I never got a chance to play. Obviously,
play against the Joker. But the Joker, this boy is
bad I think he's already one of the top what
four or five centers in my opinion, Kareem Shack. I
mean you could throw Wilt in there, Moses Malone. Now,
(41:34):
are we considering Akeema center? Because to me, if I
was doing an all time team, that Keem would be
my power forward.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Yeah, I have to put him at center.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
Okay, Yeah, So you know Jokers in that conversation, no question.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
But you would take Shack over him, a team over him.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
I would take Shack. I'm taking Kareem. Then you gotta
start thinking where Joker falls there?
Speaker 2 (42:07):
Uh, Joker makes it look easy. Yeah, and he could
have played back in the nineties because he's a big
guy and you know he would take you to the
See Shaq never would guard Joker. They wouldn't let Shack
guard Joker.
Speaker 3 (42:23):
Here's my argument why I love.
Speaker 10 (42:27):
The Joker because every time I see big fella Shaq,
he's always he always says Rick Smith's gave him fits.
So if Rick Smith's at seven four gave him fits.
Speaker 3 (42:39):
Yeah, then what would Joker do?
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (42:43):
Yes, right, So if he's telling me always, oh my god,
Rick Smith's, he I had no answer for him. So
if he's saying that about Rick and Rick was unbelievable.
Don't get me wrong, love me Rick, But what would
Joker do to him that if that was the case.
You know, Shaq gets caught up at times in his
feelings because you know he gets caught in his feelings
(43:09):
at times, because look, Joker is a two three time MVP,
two times three times, three time MVP.
Speaker 3 (43:15):
He's wanted Chip. The only thing that's missing now from
his resume another title. If he gets.
Speaker 10 (43:22):
Another title or two, then the conversation is really valid,
really valid, because we know Shack has four.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
So is Shaq trying to state his case like a
preemptive Hey, before you put Joker ahead of me, don't
forget what I did exactly, Okay, but.
Speaker 10 (43:40):
We'll never forget Shack. I will certainly never forget Shack
and what he did to my beloved Pacers.
Speaker 2 (43:48):
The Mavericks situation. Now they're they're chanting fire Nico. Why
can't they be patient there in Dallas that you do
have guys that are injured coming back, But now you
want Nico, you wanted him out. Then you win the lottery,
you get Cooper flag and everything's great, and now you're
not playing well, and now they want to fire the GM.
Speaker 10 (44:10):
Well because they expected Cooper to have a victor women
Yama rookie season and it's not been hasn't been quite
that the injuries. Anthony Davis has been hurt, obviously, no
Kyrie all season. It's going to be hard to judge
his team until Kyrie and Ad get back.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
Ad looks pretty big, have you seen him?
Speaker 3 (44:33):
Yes, he does.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
He's a big man.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
What's going on in Dallas? Because that's what they used
to say.
Speaker 2 (44:39):
About right, Imagine how much you would have waited if
you played in Dallas?
Speaker 10 (44:45):
Good Lord, is that Texas barbecue really that good?
Speaker 2 (44:50):
You would have been Rick Mahorne, you know, yeah, I.
Speaker 10 (44:54):
Mean play struggling shooting the basketball. So look, this team
is hard to judge until Jason Kidd can get them
all together and they start playing. But the problem with
that is you're in the Western Conference. There's no time,
you know, to figure it out. You've got to hit
the ground rolling in the Western Conference. So look, you
(45:17):
know they're always going to be chanting fire and Nico.
They were doing that last season, and then you look
at Luca and what the Lakers are doing.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
So of course you know that kind of adds a
little bit of field.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Yeah, definitely. Maybe claysy in love. Maybe that's what it's
not the role of being in love, but maybe it's
affected his game. You know who's he going out with?
Nicki Minaj?
Speaker 3 (45:40):
Is that? Who's going to Meghan the Stallions?
Speaker 2 (45:43):
Sorry, there you go?
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Let me come on, come on you.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
Meghan Vallon? Is it?
Speaker 3 (45:55):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (45:56):
E value okay, Meghan the Stallions.
Speaker 10 (46:00):
Yes, she's a lovely, lovely girl from what I understand.
And here of course, and we all love Clay.
Speaker 3 (46:07):
I love me some Klay Thompson, you'll turn it around.
Shoot or shoot?
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Oh by the way, I saw the video where you
were shooting a couple. Was that a couple of days ago?
Speaker 3 (46:16):
Where? Yes, it was? It was like six people think
I'm looking for a day.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
No I am, No, I'm that was impressive.
Speaker 10 (46:26):
That was I just one of the people to understand that.
And you and I talk about this all the time.
That will be the last thing that will ever leave me.
I can always shoot, So someone's gonna tell me to shoot?
Come on, man, I could do that all day. That's easy.
Speaker 2 (46:42):
Have fun tonight. Tell my sert Rico.
Speaker 3 (46:44):
We said alone, we love us some Michael Too, Rico.
Speaker 2 (46:48):
Buddy Reggie Miller once again. That was before Nico Harrison
was fired. The Mavericks had fired their general manager.
