Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
College football rankings came out. No real surprises there. It
all plays out every year. We're like, oh my gosh,
if that happens, and that happens in that it just
all seems to fit. It feels like it's a Rubik's
cube where you go, I don't know what I'm doing.
I'm keep twisting and turning, and then all of a
sudden it matches up. It's really rare now and you

(00:28):
get twelve teams in Notre Dame has to beat pitt
and then once they do that, they'll be in the
playoffs because they have Stanford and they have Syracuse. Stanford
they're kind of inish and maybe they could afford another
loss here Ohio State Indiana with the showdown, perhaps both
will be undefeated when they meet, and then where they

(00:49):
are positioned. You know, I look back at Oregon, like
Oregon was number one in the country, but their draw
in that twelve team playoff was just not fair. And
somebody's going to be matched up somebody first round where
you're gonna go, wow, that's you know, that's the prize.
That's what you get for being a number one seed,
and it might happen again this year. But still, as

(01:11):
they like to say, there's a lot of football left
to be played. But you want to talk about the
most must win game of the weekend, I can get
a head start Notre Dame Pittsburgh. That's a most must
win game of the weekend because that means you're either
in the playoffs or you're not. Now, I don't want
to take anything away from Stanford or Syracuse. While I
take everything away from Stanford and Syracuse, but those would

(01:35):
be the two remaining teams. And then you start to
look at strength this schedule, and this team beat this team,
but this team is ranked higher, and it all sorts out.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
It all plays out.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
For the most part here, all right, So we'll come
up with the pole question, Play the day, stat of
the day, all of that forthcoming. The NBA has finally
adopted they adopted my format. And I have to credit
this commissioner because he has to be because he listens
to the show all the time. I ask him about
doing some other things. Make the all NBA teams positionless,

(02:08):
because that's what basketball is now. I got seven foot
six guys playing on the perimeter. You don't really have
a designated center, forward and guard. He did that. I
also said, how about it as an incentive, you have
to play at least sixty five games to be eligible.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
For postseason honors. He did that.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
I also said, how about the rest of the world
versus the United States. Now I get pride, I get patriotism,
I get competitiveness. I might have an All Star game
where there's passion. And the commissioner listened finally took a while.
Oh and I heard from the critics, Oh, yeah, you're
going to have like six guys on the you know,

(02:49):
the rest of the world compared to the depth of
the US team. I go, how about I take my
six against your six. I like my chances if I
take my starting five against your starting five. But I
like what the commissioner did. He created two teams from
the United States. So I'm going to dilute their roster
a little bit and make it a little bit more

(03:12):
equitable against you know, maybe a European roster or the
rest of the world that won't be as deep because
I don't know if Franz Wagner is going to make
the rest of the world team the world team there,
But I do know if I trod out Joker, Wemby, Jannis, Sga, Luca,

(03:36):
come get some Now I got, I got something that's interesting,
and maybe there will be the pride you know. You know,
Joker talked about what that what was it? A silver bronze,
bronze medal, Marvin bronze medal at the Olympics met more
than the NBA Championship. To him, there's going to be pride, passion,

(03:56):
maybe a competition and this is the last chance.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
But I do like this.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
I do like the United States against the rest of
the world, and you're going to have two teams and
around robin format there I applaud the commissioner.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yes, Paully, Just to be clear, we don't get SGA Canada,
we don't get North America.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
No.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Oh, it's not you don't get the content because that
would be nice for us to get SGA.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
No, it's more more important SGA is going to play
for the world.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Oh yeah, what about like uh, I.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Mean if President Trump can get Canada in time and
make it the fifty first state.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
But other than that, I think SGA is going to
be playing for the world.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
What if a player was from the US Virgin Islands.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
That that would be US. We get that, Yeah, that
would be you'd get Tim Duncan.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
We would have got Tim Duncan.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yes, yes, yes, Dylan.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
You want to hear the current MVP odds then, because
this sort of paints a little bit of a picture
versus Sga Okay, then jokicic yeah, then Luca yeah, then
'hannis yep.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
The web that's a starting five.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Is there an American in the top ten for MVP. Yes,
so it's a Austin.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
Reeves Wey's plus six hundred and then a steep drop
off to Kaid Cunningham at plus thirty five hundred.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Well, once again, I think it's gonna be a lot
of fun. I don't know how long I can play
my starting five if I'm the world, but I'd like
to play them as long as possible.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
Yes, Marvin, it's not good when the US is going
to depend on Steph Lebron and Katie per usual, Like
you don't have any young American stars where it's like,
all right, we can match up with these guys. We
have Kid Cunningham, No knock to Kid Cunningham and Jalen Brunson.
What's gonna happen when Lori Marketing and Sagooine from the
Rockets come in for the World team.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
That's hell be your bench.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
I know it's eight, so it's not like twelve where
it's a big drop off. I have all NBA performers
as my top eight guys on this team are the
rosters twelve, no three teams of eight. Oh, so that's
why the world is even. It's even scarier because there's
no big drop off, like Josh Giddy isn't going to
be on the team because they need to fill the roster. Okay,

(06:12):
I have legit NBA All Stars.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
I love it. I love it, but it's because I
hated it before.

Speaker 8 (06:20):
You know where it was just going up and down
and you know it's like layup lines.

Speaker 6 (06:26):
Yes, yes, And NBA players don't be upset because this
is your fault. If you decided just to play a
little bit. We would have just had regular East and
West per usual.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
Yeah, Paul and players like Halliburton injured, Jason Tatum injured,
USA born players that would have been it would be
on that team.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yeah. Wow, is there a line out yet? Who you
got looking? Well? I would take the world because I
think it means the world.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
To them, and see what you did. Yeah, yeah, that
would be my rallying cry. It means the world to us.

Speaker 7 (07:01):
What Marvin, that's gonna be a Peacock this time?

Speaker 8 (07:05):
It means the world to them, Country Pride.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
It means the world to them. The NBA All Stars
Collide on NBC and Peacock next.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Yes, Paul, can we acquire a player? It seems like
in soccer guys jump countries all the time for different reasons.
Can we get like sweeten the deal for SGA to
become an American?

Speaker 8 (07:30):
Immigration's tough. Now, I'm just saying, yeah, RGA.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Plays in Oklahoma. That's as American as it gets.

Speaker 6 (07:37):
Yes, Marvin, Well, we've already done that with Joel Mbi.
Joel Ebie was from Cameroon. He's playing for Team USA.
I was like, man, he just got here like eight
years ago. He's like he's ours.

Speaker 8 (07:49):
Well, you get him. He's just not gonna be able.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
To play collide not play.

Speaker 8 (07:53):
Yeah, yeah, I think this will be a fun format.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Now.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
I don't know if you can extrapolate and go, how
about we do the world three point shooting in dunk
Contest versus the United States. I don't know if you
make it territorial like that, but this is his start,
and that's all I ask the commissioner have an open
mind with this, and I think this is going to
be fun.

Speaker 7 (08:18):
Yes, Marmun mac McClung is ours, He's American, that's ours.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yeah, So why can't he stick on? Somebody said this
to me, and I know that they were kind of joking,
but they said, Bronnie is not better than mac McClung.
I said, yeah, but mac McClung's dad is not as
good as Ronnie's dad or as important. But mac McClung
usually gets like he's gotten a couple of ten day contracts.

(08:44):
I think he got cut by Indiana. He only played
a couple of games. But I mean I watched him
and I said, you know, he can play, and I've
watched him in the G League and you know he dominates,
but he just can't can't stay on a roster there.

Speaker 6 (09:02):
Yes, Marvin, it's hard to be like a six to
two shooting guard and you're not a really good shooter,
like he's a great athlete. Yeah, but he's one of
those guys where it's like, uh, if he was six',
five it'd be a different.

Speaker 7 (09:13):
Story he just can't. STICK i don't.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
Know, yeah he's probably made more money winning The dunk
contest than he has in his professional.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Career, yeah, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
PAUL i want to go back to about five years.
Ago you brought up this TOPIC usa versus The world
to spice Up All Star. WEEKEND i lightly poop pooed
it BECAUSE i thought there was too much downside for
THE nba IF usa lost to the, World, like, oh
our league is getting dominated by the rest of the.
WORLD i THINK i was wrong, there because would it
be better for THE nba for the world to win this? Game, yes,

(09:46):
yes because it's a world.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Sport it's but THE nba is being dominated by the
world right. Now if you look at the best players
in the, game the best players in the game are
not from The United. States this is a Truly this
is What David stern told me fifteen years, ago how
it's going to be an international sport where the players
are going to be because it used to be The

(10:08):
european players were soft the. Label When Dirk novitsky came,
over you, know they made fun of. Him he's told
the story where he's on the floor and they're making
they're they're calling him soft in a few other. Names
then they found out That dirk wasn't. Soft man Who
jenobili wasn't, Soft Tony parker wasn't. Soft you know that

(10:28):
you Got Sharunas marshall onas they weren't, Soft and so
that label's.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
Gone you, know, nobody you don't hear.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
That nobody's calling the joker soft Or yanna's, soft, LUCASSOFT
i mean maybe, pudgy which leads me To Nico Harrison
man timings, everything AND i started to, Wonder, Okay Nico
harrison survived the trade because they Got cooper. Flag if
they don't Get cooper flag and they end up With Ace,

(10:56):
BAILEY i they would have fired him probably before. This
but here's WHAT i don't. Understand, okay they made the.
Trade the trade was, terrible and ownership approved. This it's
not Like Nico harrison, said.

Speaker 8 (11:14):
Don't tell, ownership But i'm Trading, luca, okay.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
And then you trade. Him Mark cuban's not, own he
doesn't run The mavericks. Anymore he's got a, percentage but
he has nothing to do with. This so ownership had
to approve. This but now you're going to fire the
guy that you gave autonomy to making this.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
Deal now the.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Owner should, say, hey you know, WHAT i hated firing,
him And i'm partially to blame as. Well, okay at
least it takes some, ownership true ownership. Here, now Would
i've made the trade trading away somebody like that the year?
Before you go to THE Nba? Finals AND i Know
nico has said many, times you know you win championships

(12:01):
by playing. Defense, Okay sometimes IF i outscore you buy a,
lot that's kind of.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Defense.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Okay and if you add role players that play. DEFENSE
i can still Let steph Be. STEPH i can Let
luca Be. LUCA i can let these guys be great
scores because IF i get thirty five and my guy
gets twenty.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Two.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
That would be plus.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Thirteen that seems like that would be a win for.
Us BUT i don't Want Anthony. Davis and, see that's
what bothered me more than. Anything you're gonna if you're
gonna take the risk of Trading, luca don't take a
risk of whom you bring. Back i'm trading a twenty

(12:49):
five year old star who can get you thirty and
be out of. Shape, now he can always get in.
Shape Anthony davis can get. Healthy but IF i Got Anthony,
edwards IF i got they're not trading. Shape but if
you got somebody who had great upside and it is

(13:13):
only twenty, three twenty, four twenty.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Five, okay and maybe it's a guy who's a.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Two way, player or you get a couple of players
who are two way players and advise into your defense wins.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Championships nico didn't get that In Anthony.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
DAVIS i think he had one great game In dallas
and then he got hurt and he's hurt. Now but,
okay if, healthy we love to use, that not free if. Healthy,
Okay kyrie And Anthony davis are on the wrong side of.
THIRTY i love Watching, Kyrie but what AM i getting

(13:51):
out Of? KYRIE i don't know what the endgame was
going to be because when they, retire what do you
have to show For luca because he'll still be. PLAYING
i just don't understand. It and then you fire him, now,
like at least let the roster play. Out let me
wait Until Anthony davis And kyrie get. Healthy but this

(14:16):
is a fans slow start Dirt novitsky's. Criticizing you, know
it feels bad for the. Fans then all of a,
sudden it's, like now we'll fire. Him, okay but, man
he left a. Mess this is bad and it could
have been. Great you Get Cooper. Flag imagine if they

(14:37):
had a couple other younger, players guys that you could
count on that we're going to be able to. Play,
okay The west is, Stacked Cooper flags. Struggling feels Like
Jason kidd is, safe he's on. Scholarship but you look
at that. Team they're not a good. Team and even

(14:59):
when those get, BACK i don't know how good they
can be because there's always going to be the, wait
what's wrong With Anthony?

Speaker 3 (15:05):
Davis, Yes, PONY.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
I can remember the day after this. Trade we were all,
incredulous and you, said the only way this trade works
If luca goes to The lakers and somehow becomes a
lesser player in the near. Future he's averaging thirty, seven
nine and nine this.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Year BUT i also, Said dallas has to win the, Championship,
like you can't make that move with that because you've
gone to the finals With. Luca you can't, say, hey
you know we won to our first two rounds of playoff.

Speaker 8 (15:33):
Game that's not good. Enough you made a move that.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Was supposed to make you better and it, didn't and
it cost to your, job and you will go down
in history as somebody who was involved in one of
the WORST nba trades of all.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Lions, Okay Paul, Bills, Rams, Rams.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Chiefs, Rams, chiefs followed by The, Lions, Eagles. Seahawks so
you have ONE amc team and then you got The, Rams, Lions,
eagles And seahawks in, there followed by The colts and The.
Bills this is one of. THOSE i, mean The chiefs
are five and, four and don't they have a big
game coming up this?

Speaker 4 (17:33):
Weekend they are currently not a playoff, Team.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Yes but they have the tied for the Best. Dodgs, Yes,
ton what if The.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
Chiefs AND i hate to put this out in the,
universe what if The chiefs blew out The broncos In?

Speaker 7 (17:44):
Denver how would opinions change Of Kansas? City or is
it just one?

Speaker 3 (17:47):
GAME i don't, know how would you?

Speaker 9 (17:48):
FEEL i would, say look, out here come The chiefs,
again and what the heck's going on with my?

Speaker 2 (17:52):
TEAM nflmbp odds right? Now Matthew Stafford Leeds Drake. May
then It's, Mahomes Jonathan, Taylor Josh, Allen Sam. Darnold, okay, rejoice,
rejoice there's a reason to watch The giants this. Weekend
Jamis winston is going to start from The. Giants, yes

(18:16):
what year is? This, oh they're gonna have w's on.
Sale you can eat A w. There that might be
the ONLY w they host The Green Bay. Packers, Yes,
DYLAN i was just eating a Wo oh is that
what you were?

Speaker 9 (18:29):
Doing?

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Wow jamis giveth and taketh away the first thirty for
thirty thirty guy IN nfl, history touchdown, passes interceptions in a.
SEASON i don't know if we honor that the way
we do forty forty in. Baseball But Jameis winston And Russell, wilson,

(18:51):
man it is officially.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Over, YES, Pauli, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Jameis winston had a season at age twenty. Five he
led the league in, attempts he'd led a league in,
yardage and he led the league in. Interceptions. Y, yeah good.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Stuff packers are favored by seven Against Jamis winston and The,
Giants but this is. FUN i have no idea other
THAN i have an. Idea it's going to be entertaining
With Jamis. Winston but For Russell wilson you get kicked
to the. Curb And i'm surprised that they still have

(19:29):
him on the. Roster but then you got to get
another quarterback in there as, Well Tommy.

Speaker 8 (19:35):
Cutlets is he still with The? Patriots that sound?

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Right believe?

Speaker 5 (19:41):
So LAST i saw On instagram he was at A
italian restaurant In.

Speaker 8 (19:44):
Boston tommy devite, Though, Yes, todd.

Speaker 7 (19:47):
If you're playing The giants these, days don't you want
to See Russell wilson Over Jamis.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Winston, NO i want to See Jameis.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
WINSTON i mean When russ got, in When jackson dar got,
hurt it just looked like he had no idea what
he was. Doing If i'm The, Packers i'd rather Face Russell. Wilson,
Yeah jamis can still make. Plays what is the over?
Under let's SAY i put over under at one and

(20:16):
a half interceptions For Jameis, Winston, dylan what would you?

Speaker 5 (20:21):
TAKE i, mean as A jamis, FAN i would like
to take the, under BUT i might GO i think
two picks against The. PACK a Good packers defense first game,
ACTION a little.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Yeh over under is a forty three and a half
and considering The packers offense as of, late it seems
like a hefty.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
Line, Yes Pully.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
Jamis is the kind of guy who could have three
interceptions and beat you, though you, know hell of three
ugly picks and then win it in the fourth. Quarter his,
career it's a weird. Career he's got one hundred and
fifty four career touchdown, passes one hundred and eleven.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Picks, yeah but for a number one.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
Overall, yeah there was a time though he was a. Thing.

Speaker 8 (21:04):
YEAH i think that was in. College he was a thing.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
Man he had a lot of Those bucks games, though
where he would have like three picks and five.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
TOUCHDOWNS i don't think he had a lot of those
games dealing he had enough that were. Memorable then how.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Many five, touchdown three interceptions. Games if it's so, Memorable
i'll go back to, okay, Exact Travis, hunter it's over
for this, year knee. Surgery. Man there was so much
build up to. This he won The heisman because of,
this and then you go into THE nfl and we,
wondered are you going to play MORE? dB maybe eighty

(21:41):
percent of the, time twenty percent wide. Receiver it became pretty,
balanced but there was nothing that stood. Out there was
no like pick six to win a, game or even
a touchdown reception where you, go, yeah and you're playing
positions where if you watch a football, Game i'm not
seeing the defensive back in real, time and even the wide,

(22:03):
Receiver i'm not watching you run your route Because i'm
watching the. Quarterback so therefore he got no. Airtime you
play For, jacksonville so you're not getting primetime. Games you
got a quarterback that we have questions. About AND i, wonder,
NOW i don't know if usage led to, this but

(22:25):
do you get to the POINT i want you to
be great at one. THING i don't want you to
be good at two. THINGS i want you to Be
if you got the potential to be, great then be.
Great you, Know dion was great as a defensive back
and he wanted to play wide receiver just to prove
that he could be different than anybody, else and he

(22:46):
was able to do. That Travis, HUNTER i would, say
if he's going to be a great defensive, back then
have him. There sprinkle in a couple of plays on.
Offense but If i'm getting good and good AND i
could get. Great i'd rather have, great but With, jacksonville

(23:06):
maybe good and good suits them because they need help
on both sides of the. Ball but that's you, know
out with knee surgery and really a nondescript rookie season
where it felt, like, boy you got a legitimate two way.
Player AND i wonder how long that will? Last, oh

(23:29):
what's poll question?

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Today? Dylan all?

Speaker 5 (23:32):
Right Dan, well first option is what's the worst trade
in sports?

Speaker 7 (23:37):
History Got Herschel?

Speaker 5 (23:39):
Walker, Yeah Babe, ruth there's a, sale but he counts
And luka doncik or.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Other i'll Say Babe ruth because it changed the. GAME
i mean he changed the. Sport he changed two different.
FRANCHISES i would say that to start. With you Know Herschel.

(24:06):
Walker herschel wasn't a great running. Back he was great
in college THE. USFL i think he had five thousand rushing,
yards but he didn't Have he was just a, big fast.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
Guy he had no.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
Moves and you, Know, Dallas Jimmy johnson was able to
get a great haul for him and you get a
lot a lot of those draft, picks and it built the.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Foundation For Super bowl winning.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Teams once, again if you make a, trade and as a,
result you end up winning. Titles you, know that's where
you can look at that was a unbelievable, trade or
that's one of the worst. Trades you, know The vikings
are on the receiving end of. That they Got. Herschel
they gave up all of these players back when running
backs meant. Something But Babe ruth where you're basically it's

(24:50):
a financial transaction and you Get Babe ruth and he
becomes the best player in the history of the. Sport
SO i would say what The Red sox, did that's
the worst trade in sports.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
History, YEAH, Pauli.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
I'll throw out this. One it's modern. Era The Houston
texans got rid Of Deshaun, watson who had injuries and,
baggage and The Cleveland browns gave them three first round,
picks a fourth round, pick and another fourth round. Pick
Deshaun watson's done absolutely nothing and been very expensive for The.
Browns The texans turned all those picks into LIKE. C.

(25:24):
J stroud And Will anderson and they are set for you,
KNOW i know they're not doing great right, now But
i'm gonna throw that out there as the worst in modern,
history even worse Than. Luca but it's akin to. It,
yeah but nobody's winning anything. There No texans aren't winning.
Anything cleveland's not winning. Anything but the direction The browns

(25:45):
changed to go move on at quarterback and to go
after a guy with that much baggage on and off the, field.

Speaker 8 (25:52):
That's as risky as it. Gets, yeah But Deshaun watson
wasn't as good As.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
LUCA i, Mean luca went to THE Nba finals on
as that wasn't, great and then you trade him at
age twenty.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
Five that to, me modern, era.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
That now what you Paid Deshaun watson because you had
to give himull guaranteed money or he wasn't going to
go To. Cleveland IF i factor that in and you
gave up those draft, picks, OKAY i could see where
that would be a rival To. Luca but the worst
slash best trade because it's worse for, one it's best
for you, know the other team is Still, Babe. RUTH

(26:31):
i don't know if there's anybody else that you. Know
The clippers Traded, sga, Right sga is going to be
A hall Of famer and they Got Paul george in.
RETURN i mean that's a if you want to look
at a bad. TRADE i, Mean luca is a bad.
Trade The clippers traded THE mvp and he's only what

(26:53):
twenty five years of, age and he's going to haunt
you for the next ten, years and he won a.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Championship that's a bad trade for The. Clippers and.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
People have revisionist, history they'll be, like you, know how
do The clippers? DO i remember WATCHING sga At kentucky
And i'm, like, okay like he was just Another, okay,
he'll you, know make fifty million dollars a year in THE.
Nba that's kind of HOW i looked At kentucky. TALENT i,
Mean Devin booker didn't even start For, kentucky so it's
kind of hard to. Handicap, oh that guy is going

(27:28):
to be. Great and Then SGA's with The. CLIPPERS i
never heard somebody, say, man this guy is eating everybody
up in. Practice so this guy is. Unbelievable you would
have thought he was untouchable and he. Wasn't and then
you Get Paul. George that's a bad. Deal any other
ones that you can think, of, yeah The new.

Speaker 4 (27:47):
Jer The Brooklyn nets Acquiring Kevin, Garnet Paul, pierce aging
superstars and The celtics turn that into a bunch of good,
players Including Jalen brown And Jason.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Tatum Now Kim kardashian's ex husband was involved in that.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
DEAL i, BELIEVE i.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
BELIEVE i Believe Chris humphries was involved in. THAT i
think SO, Kg Paul, Pierce Jason, TERRY Dj. White also
a second round pick For Keith, Bogans Marshawn, Brooks Chris,

(28:24):
Humphries Chris, Joseph Gerald, wallace and then you got a
first round, pick first round, pick first round, pick first.
Round so basically it was four first round picks THAT
i think that they Got Jalen brown.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
And Jason tatum with those. Picks, Yes Marvin.

Speaker 7 (28:44):
Ouch didn't The Red sox Trade Mookie.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Betts, yeah why that felt like a money move that.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
One. MAN i love to Watching mookie play with The Red.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Sox it's, like even when he was starting, OUT i
didn't know how great he was going to. BE i
just REMEMBER i would come in and say that dude
is so fundamentally. Sound he'll back up third, base you,
know from the. Outfield he just did. Everything, Yeah I'M
pauli here's.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
One THAT i don't think it's enough credit for being
a bad. Trade back in the early, nineties The sons
Got Charles barkley in his prime for they Traded jeff
Hornisec Tim, Berry Tim, perry And Andrew. Lang, yeah they
got almost nothing out of.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
IT i would say The broncos trading For Russell wilson
is one of the worst trades IN nfl history because.

Speaker 8 (29:36):
You so five draft.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
Picks three, players and two hundred and forty two and
a half million. Dollars that is unbelievably poor. Scouting unbelievably
poor scouting because it didn't take long Before. Pete, now
in fairness to, us he wasn't terrible when he got

(30:00):
there To. Denver it's just you, know When Sean payton
got To denver then he was. Expendable but you gave
up all of that, players draft picks and you Pay
russ two hundred and forty two million.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
Dollars, Yeah, dylan this is kind of an interesting.

Speaker 5 (30:19):
One but Rookie Pedro martinez traded from The dodgers to
The expos for straight up For Delino. Deshields Delino, Delino
But Delino deshields was a pretty good. Player that that's not.
Terrible But pedro's career after.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
That, yeah but you, Know pedro became A hall Of.
Famer so that's you, know in the, moment you got
to be fair in the moment where you, Go, okay,
now given To Shaun, watson guaranteed contract and the situation
that was in, play, Terrible. Herschel it's a bad. Deal

(31:00):
bad deal because you won championships because of that. Trade, Yes.

Speaker 6 (31:03):
Marmon the funny thing about The Deshaun watson thing is
it's not Even monday morning quarterback. Speak we thought it
was a bad idea as soon as they did. It,
yes it's not even like oh looking back on, Hindsight, no, no,
no as soon as they did, it.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
What are they?

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Doing Mookie bets And David price go to The dodgers
For Alex, Verdugo Jeter downs And Connor. Wong, wow once,
again you win championships as a, result you can Get jeter.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
Though Oh Peter, Downs, yeah that's where you. Go, hey
who did you?

Speaker 8 (31:38):
Get, well Got? Jeter, okay all, right anybody?

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Else, Yeah Connor Wong, okay oh it's Not Derek.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Jeter Fox Sports radio has the best sports talk lineup
in the. Nation catch all of our shows At Foxsports
radio dot com and within The iHeartRadio app SEARCH fsr
to listen.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Live we bring In Jason garrett and Be Football night
In America studio analyst and you can see him On
Football night In america at Seven eastern with the cruise
they get ready for The lions and The. Eagles kickoff
will be eight to twenty. Eastern help me understand this
from a coaching, perspective BECAUSE i saw Where Brian dable

(32:18):
was being blamed a little bit For Jackson dart's reckless
play and being in concussion protocol or looked at for.
Concussions being in the blue ten four times through seven
games is not an. Accident so what, role you, know
does the coach play in how a player, plays particularly your.

Speaker 8 (32:38):
Quarterback it's a tricky. QUESTION a happy birthday To, melissa
by the. WAY a tricky. QUESTION i think. One you
call a lot of quarterback design. Runs that's where you
can take some. Responsibility you, know you can talk to,
quarterbacks so you're blue in the face about, hey slide

(32:58):
do all that kind of. Stuff typically those lessons are
learned by. Experience they get hit a couple of times
and they, Realize, Hey i'm not a running. Back these
guys in THE nfl are big and. Strong they knock
you around and they start. Sliding BUT i think when
you're calling design quarterback, runs which The giants, do you
can take some responsibility as a. Coach you, know they

(33:18):
love that. Quarterback you, know it's the Old john madd
used to call. It you, know the counter tray play
That John riggans used to. Run you know what they're
doing in football these days is they're running that play
with the. Quarterback they're pulling the backside, guard the backside,
tackle and he's running downhill like a running back would.
Run and it's been a really good play for The.
Giants but you, know when you're calling those, plays you

(33:40):
just have to be careful of calling that thing too.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
Much what do you see or don't see From Jordan?

Speaker 8 (33:46):
Love, OH i see someone who's got a bright, future
who just plays a little bit. Inconsistently you, KNOW i
love them to. Death SOMETIMES i get concerned that he
that he throws the ball off his back foot a
little bit too. Much you, know he has this ability
AND i think he probably learned from being Around Aaron
rodgers to throw the ball from so many different positions

(34:08):
and it's, rare and so much of playing quarterback in
THE nfl is having the ability to do. That but
when the pocket is, clean stand in there and throw.
It AND i think sometimes he misses throws because of
that and gets a little, frivolous so and then that
kind of builds on. Itself So i'm really bullish on the.

(34:28):
GUY i think he's a heck of a. Player he's
a little bit. Streaky when he has down, games it
kind of stays. Down and when he's, hot he's as
hot as there is in THE. Nfl so you, know for,
them to, me the biggest thing is Getting Josh jacobs
involved and making it about their running game, first and
then he's going to get some cleaner looks in the
passing game AND i think he'll get back on.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Track, YEAH i wondered about being a little more aggressive
on first down instead of if you Stop Josh jacobs
and it's second in, seven you, know Now i'm getting
him in an obvious passing.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
Situation SO i don't.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
Know Matt laflor changes this up a little, bit so
you're not as predictable or as conservative as they've, Been.

Speaker 8 (35:10):
No, doubt and AS i say that about Getting Josh
jacobs more, involved the tendency sometimes is, okay just hand
them the ball in first, down and you have to do.
That but oftentimes it's the, classic you, know getting some run,
formations make it look like, run, go play, action make
some first downs on first and second. Down you, know
don't go Run, ron, hey, Hey, jordan go make third

(35:32):
and seven for. Us you, know that's a hard rhythm
for a. Quarterback SO i think your point's well. Made
and then when you when you do some of that
run action, stuff that play action, stuff you make some first,
downs that just simply gives you more. Attempts and that's
When Josh jacobs gets more.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Involved what's it mean to you When Dan campbell Says
i'm going to take over the play.

Speaker 8 (35:52):
Calling it's an interesting, decision it really, is particularly for
an offense that's, been you, know by a lot of
measuring sticks pretty. GOOD i, mean they're top five offense
and they've had some big games so. Far but we
talked about on the show the other. Night i've Known
dan for a long. Time he AND i were teammates

(36:13):
with The, giants AND i love him to. Death he's
a great, friend and one THING i know about him
is he's. Convicted he's convicted in, life he's convicted in,
football and he knows exactly what he wants and that's
why they've had success In. Detroit he And Brad holmes
got together and, Said, hey what's the vision for this?
Team what kind of players do we? Need what do
we want to do on, offense, defense kicking? Game and

(36:35):
they've stuck through it through the thick and, thin and
he trust his, instincts he trusts his, convictions and clearly
he didn't like the feel of what was going on on.
Offense AND i give him credit because it's a bold.
Move there's an old story, though that my Friend Norv
turner used to tell AND i say this with incredible
respect for everybody. Involved but he was coaching for The

(36:58):
rams back in the eighties and The rams Had Eric.
Dickerson John robinson was the head, coach and they had
a really good. Team but they would play the forty Nine,
ers who was they were incredible at the time, defensively
and they and The niners would shut down the running,
game and then they'd play The, giants and The, giants
who are really, good shut down the running, game and
then they'd go Play atlanta And John robinson would come

(37:20):
in and, say, hey you, Know i'm gonna, Commit i'm
gonna get involved in this run. Game i'm gonna take
over this. Thing And atlanta wasn't very good at the,
time And dickerson would rush for two hundred yards and
Then robinson would come back in On monday and, SAY
i got you guys scored. Away now you, know let's
get to, work you. Know and SO i get a
little nervous about that With detroit Because washington was, depleted

(37:44):
they weren't very good on, Defense they're banged, up And
detroit goes in there and and they're Like detroit at its,
best but now here Comes. Philly so it's it's gonna
be a little bit. Different SO i, UH i wonder
going forward how it's all going to play. Out but,
AGAIN i Admire dan's conviction And Dan dan gets underappreciated
as a football. Guy people think of him as this

(38:06):
great speech maker and all of. That he's a damn
good football. Coach the smarter Players i've ever been. Around
so he knows what the heck he's doing on. Offense
but he's changed the dynamic of the staff and so
as they go, forward he'll have more decisions to.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
Make, yeah but that's tough being an offensive coordinator because
that's a vote of no confidence When dan, goes you know,
What i'm going to take over play.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
Calling, yeah, again it's.

Speaker 8 (38:30):
Tricky but the flip side to that, Is, okay Leave
John morton in place and then micro manage. It you
don't like what you're, getting so you're in the meetings
more and you're micromanaging. More why don't we do? This
and then during the game you're in the guy's ear
and all of a sudden he loses his rhythm as.
Well so you, know it can go back and. Forth
that's a delicate balance when you're doing it that. Way

(38:52):
So dan was bold like he always, is and, Said
i'm taking over. It but we just got to watch
that thing going forward as they play better.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
Defenses GARRETT Nbc Football night In america and it'll be
The lions that The eagles kick off at a twenty
eastern On sunday.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Night are you done with?

Speaker 8 (39:08):
Coaching you, KNOW i love the Job i'm in right,
NOW i really. Do wait a, Minute wait a, minute
have you are you interested in. Coaching, well let me
answer it this. WAY i love the Job i'm. In
i'm really. Fortunate BUT i was really fortunate to play
for a long time and coach for a long. Time
AND i can say this to you honestly That i've

(39:29):
loved every part of. IT i love coaching. FOOTBALL i
love to be in a position, coach a coordinator and
a head. Coach so you, know if that opportunity presents
itself in a way that that seems like it's, attractive,
SURE i look at. IT i can't go back to,
playing you, know that's not an option. Anymore BUT i
love What i'm. DOING i love every part of the.
JOB i have AN nbc And i'm really. Fortunate when's

(39:51):
the last time a team contacted. YOU i don't know
that anybody's ever contacted. Me i've talked to a lot
of people in the business over the last four, years
but you, know nobody's ever contacted me and, SAID i
want you to be my head coach or my offensive.
Coordinator But i've talked to a lot of people about

(40:12):
football Since i've stopped.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
Coaching but you're, young you're at That you're young by coaching.

Speaker 8 (40:19):
Standards, yeah, AGAIN i love What i'm.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
DOING i do.

Speaker 8 (40:28):
Well i'm going to be In philadelphia On sunday night
With lions And. Eagles you kidding? Me other than, THAT
i get the.

Speaker 3 (40:35):
MESSAGE i get the.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Message i'm just putting a little pressure on you in the,
pocket that's. ALL i don't think you can scramble out of.

Speaker 7 (40:43):
It.

Speaker 8 (40:44):
Yeah, yeah the best ones climb the pocket and stand in.

Speaker 7 (40:47):
There.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Yeah you get to See Jeremiah love With Notre.

Speaker 8 (40:52):
DAME i do is he now top fifteen pick in your?
Opinion hard for me to know the draft right, now
but he is a top fifteen and caliber player in
my mind in any. Year. Uh he is so much
fun to. Watch And i've gotten a chance to know
him a little bit over the last couple of, years
and what a fantastic young man and driven to be

(41:12):
great and. Unselfish you, know he's Got Jadarian, price and
you know these guys encourage each. Other it's like this
incredible tandem of running backs That Notre dame. Has but you,
know when you watch, football THEN i always say, this
the identity of a, team the identity of a, player for,
me can be defined by the most expert person and
the least expert person watching the same thing and drawing

(41:36):
the same. Conclusion So Vince lombardi goes to practice and
Sees Jeremiah love practice and sees him play On, saturdays as,
wow that's an unbelievable football. Player and Mother, teresa who's
never seen football, before she does the same. Thing he,
says who's who's number? Four you? Know and and and to,
ME i think IT'S i think when you watch games

(41:59):
and certain players just simply stand out above the, Rest you're, Like,
wow that guy's. Different and we have it in our
game right now in THE. NFL i, mean there's certain
guys that are, like oh my, god who was number
one for The? Packers he just seems faster than. Everybody
and you can go on and on on that. List
SO i Think Jeremiah love for me and college, football

(42:20):
is that. Guy he stands. Out he's better than everybody
else on the.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
Field you were In, dallas you got, there AND i
think nineteen ninety TWO i did. So The Herschel walker
trade was nineteen eighty. Nine, yes, yeah what was this
sense when you got there of that trade and really
the building blocks for winning a couple Of Super?

Speaker 8 (42:41):
Bowls, WELL i think it was. CRITICAL i think everybody
recognized that at the. Time and you, know not only
did they get all the, picks but they got the.
Players then they traded the players for more, picks and you,
know there would always be these articles, About, okay you,
know what are the results of the of the Herschel walker.
Trade AND i can't remember off the top of my,
head but it was ended up Being Russell maryland And

(43:02):
Emmitt smith And Tony tolbert and you go on and
on and on about the guys that were taken as
a result of that. Trade who are the cornerstone players
on those championship, teams and you, know so it really
was the foundation of. Everything and you, Know jimmy used
to say this that he said, that you, KNOW i
had no real expertise over everybody else and evaluating, players

(43:25):
WHICH i think he was he was being modest BECAUSE
i think he. Does but he just had a lot
of picks and they picked all these guys and they
ended up being the building blocks of some amazing, teams
and so it was really. SIGNIFICANT i do think people
recognized it at the.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
Time you played the, position coach the, position but at
what point do you realize that you need to move
on from a. Quarterback, YEAH i know the money factor
is big in, this but you, KNOW i don't know
What jacksonville has With Trevor. LAWRENCE i don't know What
miami has With. TUA i don't know What arizona has With.

(44:01):
Kyler now they're all getting, paid but at some point
there's diminishing returns. There so as a, coach when do
you know that this guy is not going to give
us maybe the best chance to.

Speaker 8 (44:14):
Win, well it's a great. QUESTION i think it's a
pertinent question for this time in football because as you
talk about those, guys we also talk About Sam darnell
And Daniel jones and some of these other guys who
are kicked to the curb by their organizations and now
they're thriving somewhere. Else SO i, think you, know teams
are probably a little concerned about doing that again and

(44:36):
having their guy who they've invested so much and go
somewhere else and have. Success to, me as we all,
know it's a cliche to say at football is the
ultimate team. Sport, nobody nobody's fate is more determined by
that than the. Quarterback so the quarterback needs a supporting.
Cast he needs, lineman he needs, playmakers he needs a,

(44:57):
runner he needs a, defense he needs, coaching all of.
That and oftentimes these guys who get picked high go
to bad places where none of those things are in,
place and they don't know how to play, yet and
so you have a double whammy there and that they're not,
ready and they're certainly not ready in this environment that
they're playing. In so one of the things that's a

(45:18):
factor for all these things is when they have so
much adversity and they're part of all the, losing the
question is can they ever survive in that? Place do
they need to go somewhere else to reinvent. Themselves AND
i think that's what happens to a lot of these.
Guys if they stay, there even if the environment gets,

(45:39):
better they're too many scars and sometimes they need to,
wipe you, know wipe the whiteboard clean and start. Anew
so for all those guys that you're talking, about they're
not necessarily in great. Environments In, miami In, jacksonville In,
arizona the teams around them have not been that. Good
And i've seen it happen with players who were the

(46:00):
best that ever walk at that, Position Troy aikman at
the end of his, career he probably was a better
player than he. Was we were winning Super, bowls, right
but the supporting cast was, diminished and you can look
at you, know you picked the Guy Dan, marino so
many others who were, elite, elite best of all time
guys when the supporting cast got, worse harder for them

(46:22):
to have. Success so if that's the case for, them
it certainly is the case for some of these. GUYS
i do think at some point you have to use
your football expertise and your gut to, say, Hey i'm
sticking with him Or i'm moving. On and oftentimes that
happens with a new.

Speaker 2 (46:36):
Coach good to talk to, you safe travels To. Philadelphia
play Nice, yeah, yeah always enjoy.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
It thank. You That's Jason. Garrett Football night In.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
America, yeah just dawned on me that he probably still
wants to coach relatively, young maybe an, Opportunity and you,
know it dawned on, me you, know with The giants opening,
there AND i, THOUGHT i, wonder you, know maybe he
hasn't been, contacted but you have other people who have

(47:06):
been maybe contacted on your behalf

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero.
