Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
He's Nick Right, host of First Things First on Fox
Sports one. What's Right with Nick Right? On YouTube and
wherever you get your podcast and host of No Gamble,
No Future for Poker Go?

Speaker 3 (00:16):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (00:16):
You know?

Speaker 5 (00:17):
Great to see you. I have a message I have
to convey. Ok I got this text seven minutes ago.
I'm going to edit it for clarity and language.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (00:33):
I efin love Dan p I see her about to
bless him. That's too bleep and dope, first of all.
Second of all, I love how you appear on shows.
I'll skip that part. Let Fritzy know. I'm definitely have
to go bar for bar with him one day. I

(00:54):
feel like we would spend a lot of time me,
you know, saying guess who that's from? So do you
want to guess? Or should I just reveal it? I
think this will be absolutely thrilling for Fritzi, and I
think you will be pleased as well, Dan.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Patrick, All Todd, would you like to guess who would
like to sing with you or against you?

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Frank Callendo?

Speaker 5 (01:19):
No, Frank Calliando is not the answer, Todd.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
That was terrible Katy Perry.

Speaker 5 (01:25):
Do you think Katy Perry is texting me?

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Yes? Why not?

Speaker 5 (01:30):
Let me tell you this, Katy Perry is much closer
in fame and profession than Calliendo. That's a clue. Any
other guesses or should I just reveal it?

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Paul Kenny Chesney, Okay.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
We're getting colder again. You got to keep in mind
this is someone that I have a personal relationship with.
I'm gonna give you one more clue. I hugged this
person in the last seventy two hours.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Okay, Kanye West?

Speaker 5 (02:04):
No, and you know if I was hugging Kanye, that
would probably be something I wouldn't talk about publicly. But
you are getting very warm now, Okay, Dylan jay z
O very close? Should I just reveal it?

Speaker 6 (02:22):
Wait?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Man, hold on, let Marvin, we'll go around the infield. Nos.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
No, you know I'm not quite No, it's a little
too old baby for not that just for me to
have the personal relationship. This also has revealed you guys
don't follow me on Instagram. I guess that's fine, no problem.
Huge fan of Dan Patrick. Person that wants to go

(02:48):
bar for bar with Fritzy, My dear friend, the greatest
rapper alive, Lill Wayne.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Lol Wayne. Okay, Wayne.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Maybe wants to stop by the man came some time
when he's out east. Yeah, come see you guys. And
I thought you'd like to hear that.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Dan, Yeah, Lil Wayne Big Fritzi on toe to.

Speaker 6 (03:10):
Toe pretty awesome.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
That's not necessarily though.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
Okay, we can get to the regular scheduled programming. I
just wanted to pass that along.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
All right, let me start with what's more interesting, the
Lakers moving forward or Lebron moving forward.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Lebron moving forward the Lakers listen. I think the Lakers
blew it. I think that when Luca's Lakers tenure is over,
there is a greater than fifty percent chance that the
best teammate he ever had was age forty and age

(03:48):
forty one Lebron James. And because the Lakers for the
last four years have been seemingly annoyed at Lebron's room
fusal to fall off a cliff athletically and as a
basketball player, that they have just been like, well, we'll
address the team after Lebron. Will address the team after Lebron.

(04:11):
They were like, well, you can't expect us to have
a team ready made for Luca. We didn't expect to
get Luca, except for the fact the exact type of
players need to put around Luca, you need to put
it around Lebron. Luca modeled his game after Lebron and
this year. Listen, they got unlucky with injury, but was
one of the you know, when you have two guys

(04:31):
suffer those types of soft tissue injuries, does that maybe
not happen if you have a deeper, younger, more athletic
roster around them. You know this year, last year, once
they got Luca, they sat on their hands. And so
I think that, and you know how much I love Luca,
but I think the Lakers might be stuck a bit
in what, all of a sudden looks like such a

(04:53):
deep and athletic Western Conference. Meanwhile, Lebron has some real
interesting options on his hands. Maybe he stays in LA
I hope he doesn't. I hope he doesn't because I
don't think that team has been particularly well run, but
also because I I want to see the version of

(05:15):
Lebron we got to see in the playoffs at the
end of his career, hand on the joystick. Even if
he needs to have another alpha scorer around him like
a Jalen Brunson or like a Donovan Mitchell. Uh, but
I don't third option Swiss army knife Lebron. I he's

(05:35):
he's too good.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
For that role.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
He took that role on Dan because he can He
can do that, and Luke and Austin couldn't. But that's
not how I want to see it end for him.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Okay, but if you're gonna place him outside of the Lakers,
Harden gone him.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
There, that's it. That's like, yeah, I mean the listen,
the Knicks maybe, but the Knicks might be. I mean,
are the Knicks the greatest team ever? They have been
for two weeks.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
So I don't know.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
And but I just the exact thing that the Calves,
in my opinion, foolishly brought James Harden in to be
second best player offensive initiator. Lebron can do that without
melting down twice a series in the playoffs, and while
there they play it, they play different esthetically. Donovan Mitchell

(06:32):
can do the exact Kyrie Irvings stuff and Dwayne Wade's
stuff that Lebron is, you know, a high volume, really
good scorer alongside Bron. And then you have Alan and
Mobley is really good, you know, rim protection, like that
team makes a lot of sense. And I don't think
the Calves are going to beat Detroit, So it'll just
be another year without making the conference finals without Lebron

(06:54):
on the roster.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
You brought up Jalen Brown.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
Did I say Brown? I meant Jalen Brown. Oh, I'm
sorry if I said Jalen Brown, I apologize.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
I think I think it's Nicks or Cabs. There is
a very weird, not weird, but interesting Nuggets thing because
Bron is so tight with Stan Kronky's son Josh Cronky,
the owner of the Nuggets, Jared Dudley, who's another one
of Lebron's guys on the coaching staff. He is exactly

(07:25):
like if the Nuggets really are just gonna try to
turn the offensive engine all the way up Lebron, you know,
taking a little bit off Joker's plate, but and being
you know, Jamal Murray's the scorer Jokers that do it all. Guy.
That one's interesting, but I don't. I just don't think
that's likely. I think it's probably Lakers, Cleveland or New

(07:47):
York with a tiny chance Golden State. But I think
tiny chance.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
I'm talking to Nick Wright, host of First Things First
on Fox Sports one and What's Right with Nick right
on YouTube wherever you get your podcast, and host of
No Gamble, No Far Future for Poker Go. Also, you
got a factor in new management ownership with the Lakers,
with the Dodgers and their approach to things. Does that
change the Lakers approach moving forward with spending money?

Speaker 5 (08:14):
So I think it will, But I just don't think
those Listen, I believe Bron's going to play two more years.
I think he's going to put in a smooth quarter
century in the NBA and have that be the final
piece of I've given more to this game than anyone
could have ever fathomed giving. So I just don't know

(08:34):
if those types of changes impact you, know that quickly
on that short of a timeline, I can I ask you,
I'm going to be like very sincere for a moment.
Can I ask you a question?

Speaker 3 (08:49):
I'm sure?

Speaker 5 (08:52):
So, I don't know if you listen to Lebron's whole
press conference at the last night after the game or
this morning, but he just kept talking about how he'll
never his love of the process of getting to the
stadium five hours before the game, getting to the stadium

(09:13):
three hours before practice, and he was talking about that
in the context of he'll know when it's time to
retire when he no longer loved doing that. So this
is where you know, I'm just really actually curious about that.
I think the audience will like it. I apologize to
putting you on the spot here as you have as

(09:35):
you've had this fifty year, forty five plus year broadcasting career,
is one of the reasons you have shifted from different
types of broadcasting because the process and the prep and
the things that go into the other jobs no longer
felt fulfilling to you. And it's just like this radio show.

(09:58):
This thing is the thing that you still get super
excited for because I heard him and I thought of you,
and it wasn't just because I was coming on the
show today.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
I like the grind, I like the daily I like
you know, I come in on Saturday and Sunday when
we're not even on the air, and I just I
like that you just start something, what are we going
to do with it? Who we're gonna have on, what
are the topics? It's three hours and then you go
home and then you start thinking about it again so

(10:29):
that that every day is what always attracted me. I
could never be a seasonal broadcaster where that's my sport
and then I'm off it has to be every single day.

Speaker 5 (10:43):
And did you did you like, do you find because
that's the part I thought, and I thought, I was like, man,
I bet, I bet Dan's not just mailing in shows.
It's not like, all right, listen, we all have you know,
rough days or rough you know. I'm not saying it,
we're all undred percent, but that one of the reasons
you've done it for so long and still been into

(11:05):
it is because you're not just flipping on the microphone
and having Paulie tell you what's on the docket, like
you're still putting your version of showing up to the
stadium five hours beforehand. And so I just I thought
I heard him talking about it, and I thought of you,
and I wanted to ask you that I apologize if
that's weird.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
But no, no, because I think people are curious that,
you know, what are you getting out of it? Not
getting out of this? Why don't you want to continue?
And I think my biggest fear is to not be
great at the very end. If anything, we're more aggressive
in the last with these last two years than I've
ever been with this show of what we're doing, where

(11:42):
we're going, and uh, you know, I said, I want
to go out that way.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
I want to.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
I want to make sure that nobody thinks you're just
kind of showing up, because then, like that would be
the ultimate criticism that it doesn't feel like you care
as much.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Probably care more and more.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
And you know, I think if it doesn't show on
me or sound on me, then it doesn't you know,
kind of trickle down to the dan nets where they
need to know I'm excited. They need to know I'm
happy about something aggressive, fun, all of that. And I
told them the last two years it must be fun.
We must have fun. And that's all I asked them

(12:21):
to do. And I'm sure Lebron wants that.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
You want to.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
You want to go into an environment that is fun,
not on Hey, I'm just picking up a paycheck, I do.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
So that's that the to turn it back a bit,
that is I think the best thing the Lakers have
going for him is Bronni's like going to be a
part of the rotation next year. And I think I
I think one of I think JJ Reddick did an
awesome job this year in this postseason. I think he
deserves a lot of credit.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
Yeah, I do too.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
I think one of his only postseason missteps was once
Austin came back. You know, those beginning of the second
quarter minutes Bronnie was getting went to zero, which totally
makes sense because of where he is in the hierarchy.
What I think JJ didn't do the math on is

(13:14):
I think you were those four to six minutes a
game getting not only peak focus, but a momentarily rejuvenated
lebron within kind of the the toughest spot of games
to stay into it. You know, where he's tired, but

(13:35):
it's not clutch crunch time yet because of the excitement
of playing with his son. And I think he also
his his focus always great, but I think was extra
hyper of like, man, if Bronnie makes a mistake, I
gotta fix it. And I think that's just not there
for Jake la Ravia, and so it was. That's one

(13:56):
It wouldn't have changed this series, but that's one thing
I kind of wish they had back.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Why do you think Steve Kerr came back to coach
the Warriors don't.

Speaker 5 (14:06):
I'm sure you know Steve. I don't know Steve at all, Mike,
so this is blind speculation. My gut is felt like
he owed it to Steph. I mean, twenty million is
probably nice or whatever they're paying him, But the my
gut is he'd said, I'm gonna try try to have
Steph and I go out together. That's what I That's

(14:27):
what I would imagine is the.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Case you mentioned maybe a small chance Lebron would go
to the Warriors.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
I like that idea.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
I don't know what they're gonna do with Jimmy Butler,
Like Durant's not gonna last in Houston, right.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
You think they seem awful happy?

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (14:48):
Yeah, I mean listen, I don't. If David Stern was
still around rest in Peace, I feel like he'd hold
a press conference and be like, hey, by the way,
funny thing, new new rules.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
For this year.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
If you're over thirty six, your contract doesn't count against
the cap, and you know, do with that what you will.
But if that means Durant and Steph and Kawhi and
Lebron all end up on one team and it's a
traveling road show and they try to take on the
mechanical but totally vanilla Oklahoma City Thunder. It's probably not

(15:27):
bad for business boys.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
I'm trying to think how OKAC gets into the conversation
of great team of all time, Like if what would
they have to do?

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Where you go? Okay, we can kind of put that
three in a row, three in a row?

Speaker 5 (15:44):
Okay, I think three in a row in So, this
is something that I think is under rated, which is
there is a direct line of history on how many
championships can be won by a team or by a player.
Like so, if we just go through a Russell era,

(16:05):
what's the max Well, I guess it's eleven in the sixties,
sixties to seventies. What's the max havlicek eight? Okay, seventies
to eighties, what's the Max Kareem six, eighties to nineties?
What's the max Jordan's six nineties to two thousands? What's
the Max Shack or I'm sorry, Kobe Duncan five two

(16:28):
thousands to two thousands, tens? What's the max Bronze steph
four twenty twenties. Nobody's got more than one, like everybody,
And so as the league has gotten deeper and harder,
like what the maximum realistic championships could be one is
going down. Also, we haven't had anyone go back to
back in a decade, So of OKAC all of a

(16:52):
sudden not only goes back to back but wins three
in a row when we haven't had that in a
quarter century. I think it will be undeniable that they're
just one of the greatest, one of the most well
put together teams ever, and one of the greatest teams ever. Unfortunately,
they're not going to because this year we all know
the Timbrelves are gonna win. So I can hit that
bet and you.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Put down ten grand to win two million.

Speaker 5 (17:16):
Well, listen, I was it was. You know, I'm in
a few gambling consortiums, dan so I was the trigger
man for that, but I don't own one hundred percent
of it. But I just I knew it was mispriced.
They were saying it was priced like Anthony Edwards, you know,
had retired. There were eight teams left. They were in
round two Anthony Edwards over the same injury Gianna suffered.
They were two hundred to one. The Lakers, who didn't

(17:38):
have Luca and they were playing the Thunder, were twenty
eight to one. I thought the thunder. I thought Minnesota
should have been around twenty five to one. They were
two hundred to one, so I was gonna bet it.
I text my buddies. It's Kentucky Derby Saturday. You know,
sports books got a lot going on. There's fights Kentucky Derby.
You got a square like me walking up to the window, like, hey,
give me ten grand on the tea Wolves. They're like, yeah,

(18:00):
you fill that now. All of a sudden, I got
it locked away in a safe. They win tonight. Oh boy,
that equity's just getting higher and higher.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
Thank you, Nick. Good to talk to you again.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
You as well. I'll give a little Wayne your best.
Maybe one time you can do a three man weave,
you me and him talking little football would be fun.
Talk to you guys later.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Be Thank you, mau nuts Nick right.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
In explaining his decision to leave Old Miss for LSU,
Lane Kiffin in the most recent Vanity Fair magazine talked
about Old Miss struggle to distance itself from symbols like
the Confederate flag, Colonel Rebel, and the nickname Old Miss itself.
When he was coaching there, Kiffin says top recruits would

(19:24):
tell him, quote, hey, coach, we really like you, but
my grandparents aren't letting me move to Oxford, Mississippi. That
doesn't come up when you say baton rouge. Louisiana. Parents
were sitting here this weekend saying the campus's diversity feels
so great. It feels like there's no segregation. Ryan McGee

(19:45):
joining US now ESPN dot Com senior writer, co host
of Marty and McGhee. How would you How would you
sum up with this quote is meant to say for
Lane Kiffin Old Miss at LSU.

Speaker 6 (20:00):
Well, I think it's right on schedule.

Speaker 8 (20:04):
You know, if you look at the Lanekiff and playbook,
we're about halfway between SEC media days in middle of July,
and you know, kind of the end of football, and
you know, you used to be really careful with these
things because you know, I am of the age I
was a student at the University of Tennessee and we
used to play Ole Miss every year when I was

(20:25):
a student, and we play at the Liberty Bowl. But
that's back when Billy Brewer was the head coach there and.

Speaker 6 (20:31):
They were begging.

Speaker 8 (20:32):
He was begging the student body quit, I mean the
entire student section to be waving Confederate flags. And so
to know where that was, and to know what Oxford
is that I have experienced, you know, for the last
twenty years, and to know the Oxford that Lane Kiffin
sat down with me with a year ago this month
and went on and on and on and on about it.
And knowing what Baton Rouge is, which is one of

(20:54):
my favorite places on the planet, and knowing where tigers
came from the mascot, you gotta be really careful with
these things. I mean, acting like you have moved from
Mississippi to Berkeley and you move to bat Ruse.

Speaker 6 (21:07):
That's not really what's happened.

Speaker 8 (21:09):
I'm not sure why you go down this road other
than the Glene Kiffin playbook is he wants them to
love him where he is, and he doesn't really care
if they still love him where he was, and he
will tell you that's not the case. But everything that
he does tells you that this is just what he does.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Yeah, I would just want to know.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
And once again trying to put it in context, and
I didn't even factor in that this is Lane kind
of being Lane Kiffin. But it feels like he has
one of these things each year where he says something
this is potentially inflammatory or maybe it just is inflammatory,
you know, to a certain segment of the population. But
it's kind of a recruiting tool as well. Hey don't

(21:50):
go there, come here, everything is great here in bat Rouge, Louisiana.
I'm curious what did he think when he went to
Old Miss to begin with because he needed a bailout
with his coaching career, an Old Miss gave him that.
Did he not realize what some of these names meant
the history.

Speaker 6 (22:08):
Of the place. I just and it's very obvious when
you're there.

Speaker 8 (22:13):
And I give Oxford credit, I give Starkfield credit because
what they have really done in the last twenty years,
in particular since I've been going back in kind of
the second half of my career.

Speaker 6 (22:24):
Is they will educate you on what took place there.

Speaker 8 (22:28):
And as opposed to wasn't that long ago, everybody just
wanted to act like Paul Woods.

Speaker 6 (22:33):
It's not you know, it's not really how it was.
And now that they want to.

Speaker 8 (22:38):
Have this, I just think about him sitting again, sitting
with me a year ago, and I love this place
so much and it's not what people think that it is.
And when I came here, I have preconceivtions and now
they've they've.

Speaker 6 (22:52):
Made me realize that it's not what I thought it was.

Speaker 8 (22:54):
It's just all he really cares about is the recruiting
class where he is, the fan base.

Speaker 6 (23:00):
Where he is, the boosters where he is.

Speaker 8 (23:02):
And you know, Lsu and Ole Miss have been rivals
for man years, the Magnolia Bowl and all that, and
this is just a shot across about This just feels
like a line that maybe you maybe would shouldn't across.
There's a lot of other ways to go with this,
and to go down that road is going to create
I mean, I don't believe in social media as a
barometer of where the world actually is, but social media

(23:26):
today is, I mean, it's ferocious because of this, and
I just don't know if that's the unintended consequences that
he had planned.

Speaker 6 (23:34):
He's just looking for a recruiting edge.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Yeah, I mean, he could be correct that grandparents said
this to him, but he's wrong in I think verbalizing
this the way he did instead of just saying LSU
was a better job, more money, better chance to play
for a national championship and have sustained greatness. That's all. Like,
make it about LSU. Don't take a shot at old Miss.

(23:58):
His old Miss gave you a platform to restore your career.

Speaker 8 (24:03):
And these were all the things he's already been saying, right,
These are all all the things that he was saying
with I'm going somewhere where I can win a national championship,
going some with resources, I'm going somewhere. I've I've hit
the ceiling in Ole Miss. And he just led the
greatest era in the history of oll Miss football. I
don't know if anybody will ever replicate it, but but
just just go with that. I just don't know why
you step over this line. And I also don't know

(24:24):
why I'm surprised, you know, I I've known I've been
around Lane Kiffin's if we were kids, and when his
dad was when when Money was the head coach in
Nancy State and my dad was an acc football referee,
and and I don't know why I'm surprised. I just, uh,
I just again, I think about the guy I sat
down with the year ago. I think about the guy
that I talked through throughout the season last year until
he quit for cent of my texts, you know, at Thanksgiving,

(24:47):
and I just.

Speaker 6 (24:48):
I think about that guy. And I don't know that
I would have thought.

Speaker 8 (24:51):
I don't think you certainly, I certainly would have thought
he would have said this about Oxford, the place that
he said saved his life. I needed Oxford more than
Oxford needed me. Was the quote that everybody used the
most from our sixty special. Yeah, And to do this
now just tells you this is just all he really
cares about is where he is in the moment.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
But this just feels like a line that was probably
ill advised across.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Why did he stop returning your text messages?

Speaker 6 (25:15):
I don't know.

Speaker 8 (25:17):
He was texting me. I've talked about this on Marty McGee.
He was texting me.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
My wife. My wife and I met at Tennessee.

Speaker 8 (25:24):
We were doing Marty McGee Thanksgiving weekend for the Tennessee
Vanderbilt game. And at midnight, my wife says, you have
to stop texting with him. You have a show in
the morning. And that was the last time of her
from and with the last thing I texted was you
should come on our show tomorrow. Just announce what you're
gonna do. Marty's Marty's being held prisoner in the Ole
miss Athletic facility.

Speaker 6 (25:40):
Just tat Marty on the shoulder and goy, hey, this
is what I'm gonna do. But I'm not.

Speaker 8 (25:43):
We've texted one time since then. I texted him something
about his dad a couple of weeks ago. Other than that,
you know, but this is again, this is the playbook.
It's Wendy Peppercorn from the Sandla, right, you go. You
she don't know what she's doing, Yeah, she does. She
knows exactly what she's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing.
Good to talk to you. Yeah, good to see you.

Speaker 6 (26:03):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
Uh, the is the sec back.

Speaker 6 (26:08):
It's interesting, isn't it.

Speaker 8 (26:09):
And and and now we're talking about money and resources
and small towns and all that. Now the big ten's
got the big alumni bases and the big cities and
you know, now it's kind of you know, it's it's
Mason Dixon line again, and it's gonna be It's. Yeah,
I think there. I think there's so much talent. I
think there's a chance to be back. And isn't it
funny how the perception changes when you don't win. You know, however,

(26:32):
Minion after.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Championships in a row, he's Ryan McGee tell Marty, I said, hello,
thanks again for joining us.

Speaker 1 (26:38):

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Spurs are favored by ten and a half Tonight. Reggie
Miller on the call from San Antonio tonight with Mike Turrico,
Jamal Crawford. That'll be an Aid Eastern on NBC and
Peacock your reaction to no further suspension or fine penalties
for victor going into this game, reg.

Speaker 9 (27:13):
I'm fine with that first time offender. Jamal and I
were actually kind of shocked during the game. I think
this has been a long time coming, and I'm going
to set it up like this because he is slowly
becoming one of the faces of the league, and at

(27:35):
times you always protect the superstars.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
The officials do sometimes.

Speaker 9 (27:40):
And he is much must see TV because of what
he does on the basketball floor, but he is also
too getting beat up and that's a part of it,
and especially come playoff time where the game becomes much
more physical, it kind of rams up. And if you
listen to Mitch Johnson, the head coach to the Spurs,

(28:00):
comments after the game, basically saying good for him. I'm
glad he stood up for himself because now this puts
not only the league but the officials unnoticed, because you
cannot have one of the faces of the league taking
actions into his own hands and missing a half of
a playoff basketball game. So now tonight, I believe and

(28:24):
going forward, he will be officiated a little bit different.
Can you still be physical with them?

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (28:30):
Absolutely, but that was a shot for the league and
for the officials to be put on notice. Hey, this
is happening to me. I keep coming to you guys
and saying, look out for this, and you're not doing anything. Okay,
it's going to take this because now everyone's up in arms.
Oh my god, No, Victor wiin Binyama in the second half.

(28:51):
You can't have your stars missing any time in playoff games?

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Do teams still have enforcers the way they used to
where they you know, Jordan had Oakley and you were
not messing with Oakley. I had a Davis Brothers boys.
You know, do we have enforcers now?

Speaker 4 (29:13):
To a smaller degree?

Speaker 9 (29:15):
I would say, like in Detroit Isaiah Stewart, he is
an enforcer. He comes in and he changes the last
game before. That's what the power forward position was predominantly.
In today's game, those are stretched forwards now.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
Everything is not done in the paint.

Speaker 9 (29:34):
And if you look at the makeup of this first team,
they have a bunch of likable guys. They have some
great they have some great, great characters on but they
don't have any true hey come here, or if miss
Johnson's looking down the bench, hey go in for a
couple of minutes. That's all you need to say, go
in for a couple of minutes.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
They don't have that. Wendy took matters into his own hand.

Speaker 9 (29:57):
I kind of applaud that because now he be officiated differently.
They'll still be physical with him, but now they are nice.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
I don't think this changes how Minnesota plays him now.
You know, I want to put the pressure on the
officials to make the calls, and maybe they look at
it differently. If I'm an official, I'm not looking at
it differently. I mean he's going to get because of
his build. It It's not like Shack where you could
hit him as hard as you want and you wouldn't

(30:29):
be able to detect anything. Even Lebron going to the hoop.
When Wemby gets hit, you notice it. And I think
because of that, I don't know if they're going to
protect him. I hated to see him do this, certainly
in a playoff game that they would have won had
he stayed in. In my opinion, like this is the playoffs.
You can't get tossed, you can'try.

Speaker 9 (30:53):
I agree with you one. I don't think his intention
was to get tossed. I don't think his intention was
to hit the next carry, But remember he's seventy four.

Speaker 4 (31:03):
Nad Reid is six', nine six.

Speaker 9 (31:05):
Ten any type of this action at, seven four you're
gonna hit someone in. THE face i think he was
intending to probably hit him in, the shoulder of, the
chest something. Like that but at, seven four everyone is
considerably smaller, than, you umb and this is what's. Gonna
Happen If, I'M minnesota i agree. WITH you i keep testing.

(31:26):
The limits this is the thing can come. Playoff basketball
and this IS why i applaud the champs And Ok
see thunder because they have a bunch of dogs on
their team and their motto is.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
You can this goes back to The.

Speaker 9 (31:38):
Bad boys you can't, call everything you can't fallas.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
All out we're all gonna play the same way and
we're gonna.

Speaker 9 (31:46):
Stay aggressive So If, I'M minnesota i continue to push
the envelope and let them, protect them let them, call
everything but they can't.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Call, everything yeah but the greatest player of all time
didn't get up. IN fight i mean he had people
who would stand up for him and bang. BANG around,
i mean you had an Incident, with jordan but for the,
Most part mike had somebody to.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
Protect, him.

Speaker 9 (32:14):
Again there's a bunch of nice gentlemen on this, first team.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
And that's. Fine, TOO.

Speaker 9 (32:23):
Look, i agree you can't put yourself in, that position
but sometimes violence, is necessary and that's when he felt violence.
Was necessary he. Took it it cost them, a game
they recaptured. Home court now we move forward and see
what happens here Tonight in, game.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Five how do You Explain donovan mitchell with four points
in the first half and thirty nine in the.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Second half.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
Things, HAPPEN look i think he was settling way.

Speaker 9 (32:52):
Too much in that. First half if you, go back
it was way too. Many THREES and I give detroit
a lot. Of credit they were. Pressuring him they were making,
other Guys Especially, james harden who got off to a.
Good start but it just shows You When donovan mitchell
is locked in and, keyed In this cleveland team can
go to a. Different Level When james harden can start games,

(33:13):
like That When donovan mitchell has a second half, like
that with the Length Of Mowgli, jared allen this is
why they won sixty plus games and was the overall
number one seed a. Year ago only to be upset
in the second Round. By indiana the capability of this Team,
has yes they can, beat anyone but they also have

(33:33):
glimpses where, You Know donovan mitchell has four points in
is one, four seven one, four eight.

Speaker 4 (33:40):
And you can't have that in the.

Speaker 9 (33:41):
Playoff games but they give, you flashes they tease you
this team is.

Speaker 4 (33:46):
Very capable now can they win a?

Speaker 9 (33:48):
Road game can you play like that in, The road
because If, you're detroit all you're saying is all we
got to do is win home games and we win.
THIS series i want to see him do it on
the road in.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
Enemy territory AND if i said you Could Have jalen
Brunson Or, donovan mitchell you got.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
First pick.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
I'm Going. With jay you KNOW how i Feel About.
JAYALEN brunson, i think to me the reason Why the
knicks Are the knicks is because of.

Speaker 9 (34:18):
His mentality and we saw glimpses of this when he
Was with dallas a little bit when he Played. With
luca but the foot that the time that he put
Foot In massive, square garden he claimed the garden as.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
His own and anytime he's.

Speaker 9 (34:35):
On, THE floor i am worried to death because, to
me he will always be one of the best clutch
time players because this dude has the. Best footwork he hits.
Huge shots, NOW again i know he's a liability at the,
defensive end but if it is a, clutch game if
it's a close game And the knicks are, IN it

(34:58):
i trust. That dude one Talking.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
To, reggie Miller the Hall of famer will be on
the Call tonight Game Five san antonio At EIGHT eastern
Nbc and Peacock the lakers future and how much of
it is Tied To Lebron, JAMES.

Speaker 9 (35:16):
Well I Think rob polenka and that brain staff is
going to have to really think.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
Going forward you're going to Build. Around luca you Start.
With luca luca has to look himself in the. Mirror
too we keep talking.

Speaker 9 (35:31):
About this he has to be available this time of
year and he's got to be in.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
Better shape but you've got to build around the future
and the Star Of.

Speaker 9 (35:42):
Luka doncics the question is going To Be austin, reeves
like can you package him?

Speaker 4 (35:48):
For something do you open up the bank and give it?

Speaker 9 (35:51):
To him is he your second second option to Play
alongside luca The way lebron finished the season without the those,
two GUYS and I know ar came back a little.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
Bit late he lets me know he can. STILL play
i feel he's not going. To retire the question is
will he be In a.

Speaker 9 (36:10):
Laker uniform most of his stuff that he does off
the court down all, his businesses being part Of the,
hollywood culture.

Speaker 4 (36:19):
That means Something. To lebron THAT'S why i can't see
him in.

Speaker 9 (36:22):
Another uniform but also winning matters to him, as well
and what is he willing.

Speaker 4 (36:28):
To take he's never really taken a backseat in terms
of his.

Speaker 9 (36:32):
Contracts before he's never taken a, hometown DISCOUNT which i
Think the lakers are kind of. Looking for, right here
he holds all his cards in. HIS hands i still
think he can help a. TEAM out i still think
he can Help the. Lakers out but they've got to
do other type of Building around Luca and Ar and

(36:52):
lebron if they want to COMPETE. With Okc The spurs
denver is going to have, to retool but they Still,
Have jokic so. There's up portland's going to be an
up and. Coming team you've got to get, some youth,
some shooting some stretched bigs to Play. Alongside luca you've
got to have a big that can knock down threes

(37:13):
to Play.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
With.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Luca field who's closer to a Championship the lakers Or
The Golden.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
State warriors.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
That's a. Great question you've Re Signed steve kerr two.

Speaker 9 (37:29):
More years, to me the injuries have hurt because you're
not going To Get jimmy butler Back Until.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
January february If that.

Speaker 9 (37:42):
Curry is, thirty eight, thirty seven, Thirty eight draymond is
knocking on, THE door i would Say the lakers just
Because of luca and if They resigned Ar, AND lebron
i would Say the lakers are closer to.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
A championship but THAT'S why i was Wondering Why steve
kerr would.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
COME back, i mean you can love.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
TO coach i get that he could have gone elsewhere
to coach while he's going to make seventeen and a half,
million dollars but it almost feels like he owed It To, steph, curry,
like hey as long as you're going, To play. I'll
coach Because once, steph retires it's probably in two Years

(38:19):
and steve would probably retire.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
As well, Fair ASSESSMENT but i also think too maybe
he knows something is coming down.

Speaker 9 (38:29):
The pike, you know there's a guy that Plays in
milwaukee that's always been. Somewhat linked we know How fond
giannis Is. Of stephan maybe he. Knows something, i'm not,
you know saying anything that no one, else has, you
know put out in the.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Universe before but how would that.

Speaker 9 (38:48):
Pairing look and if You Put Stephan, Curry yannis I'm
Sure jimmy butler would have to be in. That deal
but if they were able To, keep draymond how would.
That LOOK so i, Don't know maybe he. Knows something
maybe they can make a deal for a top. Notch
SPLAYER but i think the Relationship between Curry And, steve kerr.

Speaker 4 (39:16):
That's a.

Speaker 9 (39:16):
Great RELATIONSHIP and I think curry probably went to management, and,
said hey make. It happen, this dude he. Owes it,
four championships we've won. This TOGETHER and i think, you
know those conversations were probably had behind.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Closed Doors the bucks said the quiet thing out loud
finally that they're looking to move. J honest they should
have been looking to, move. You honest if you want
to better, your team, your franchise it's great to have
one of the great players of. All time but if you're,
not winning you're kind of doing a disservice to both
your fan base And. To jannis if, you can, you

(39:54):
know get something. For him what can you get? For
him AND maybe i wouldn't have him In. THE east
i would make SURE that i sent him out West If. I'm, milwaukee.

Speaker 9 (40:05):
Yeah but Things that, i'm hearing and again this is
things just in. The universe he doesn't want to. Go
west he wants to. Stay east so what does that?

Speaker 4 (40:14):
Look like?

Speaker 9 (40:14):
YOU know i mean there's teams that would, you know.
Give them if You're, the bucks you're looking, for picks
a plethora. Of them, two three.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
Four minutes How about Portland With.

Speaker 9 (40:24):
Dame, lillard, uh, yes yes that would, be nice but
we've kind of seen that. Experiment before it wasn't Great
and dame is long in the twoth coming Back.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
From Achilles the dame will be thirty four to thirty
five starting.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Next, Year, yeah paul you said you had a Question. About,
giannis yeah for both of.

Speaker 10 (40:43):
You guys if You Were, oklahoma city you have two
first rounders this YEAR and i think at least two,
next year would you package Those for Giannis? Or stick
with the core.

Speaker 4 (40:53):
You have depends on what happens. THIS year i go back.
TO back i Don't think jannis. Can join you. Can't
join this is almost LIKE the kd going to steph
or going To.

Speaker 9 (41:07):
The warriors if the If the warriors have won that
year when, they won they went seventy two, to, ten
right there's no Way That kevin durant was joining them
after winning. That championship he came after. They lost, remember
now okay see he was up three to one Versus.
The wars that's that's a different story at a. Different

(41:28):
time but if they repeat, THE thunder I don't i
Can't see janis wanting. To come but okay see has
all you, mentioned it they. HAVE picks i think you
could Put aj mitchell. In there who, TO me i
think on the brightest stage, right now is showing that
he can be a lead guard for. A team, you

(41:49):
could you have assets if you really wanted to go,
After honest but it depends on what what happens the
rest of.

Speaker 4 (41:54):
These playoffs in, My, opinion.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
Yeah BUT if Okc Beats, golden State Then kevin durant
doesn't Go To.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
Golden state, he, doesn't dang he.

Speaker 4 (42:08):
Doesn't go it changes.

Speaker 3 (42:09):
Basketball history it changed basketball.

Speaker 9 (42:13):
History absolutely because, AND well i think another thing that
was on the, table too if memory serves, me right during,
that year he was linked to Going to boston THAT,
year KG which i think people wouldn't.

Speaker 4 (42:30):
Have been up and as up.

Speaker 9 (42:32):
IN arms i think people Looked at, katie like you're
going to a seventy two win team even though they
lost in. The finals, people, thought man he's just going for,
The chips which.

Speaker 4 (42:43):
That's fine he has every right to.

Speaker 9 (42:45):
Do that and he got two out of it and
two FINALS, and Vp which i'm that's that's. His prerogative
but people look at him sideways like, come, on, dude like.

Speaker 3 (42:54):
Come On if utah Beat, the Bulls does? Jordan? Retire?

Speaker 4 (43:05):
Yes probably you mean before Going? To.

Speaker 9 (43:09):
WASHINGTON yeah i think that was more of a financial
move as, well.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
Too Don't, you, yeah yeah because he was gonna. Get
ownership part ownership is going to.

Speaker 4 (43:19):
Get ownership so.

Speaker 2 (43:20):
Would he have come back To the bulls though if
if they lost?

Speaker 4 (43:24):
That finals did we really go back in history and
say things?

Speaker 2 (43:29):
Like, THAT dan i WONDER who I just i was.
Just wondering just a, fun game don't? You know don't
get Upset like carmelo did. On me camel is looking,
For you, tell him tell him where he can.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
Find, me.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
Well he's going to pick on a seventy year. Old man, Come,
on camelo you know we.

Speaker 4 (43:49):
Love you, and look here's.

Speaker 9 (43:52):
The thing when you start comparing resumes, AND players i.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
Get it Why wasn't why wasn't?

Speaker 9 (43:59):
He?

Speaker 3 (43:59):

Fear thrives in silence and confusion. Ana Navarro rejects both. Her voice is an antidote to today’s chaos. Her new podcast, Bleep! with Ana Navarro, takes on today’s most pressing issues with the voices most connected to it: decision-makers, political leaders, cultural shapers, and people on the frontlines of the story. The conversations acknowledge the emotions we all feel—despair, sadness, fear— but emerge with knowledge, perspective, and hope. The belief is simple: fearless dialogue can transform fear into courage, and courage into change. When fear dominates the headlines, this show digs deeper. Because information, debate, and conversation don’t just ease fear, they give us power to shape the future.
