Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Watching Last Night with the Spurs over the Timberwolves. Spurs
were favored by ten and a half and they end
up winning it comfortably one twenty six, ninety seven. Wemby
got off to a great start. He ended up with
twenty seven and seventeen. This is a chance for you
to watch the rest of the Spurs lineup. This isn't
(00:24):
necessarily about Wemby. For me, it's about Dylan Harper. I mean,
they have a variety of players, Stefan Castle, Darren Fox,
Daron Fox had a couple of breakout seasons with Sacramento.
Now he's kind of settled into a veteran guard for
that team. But you watch and you go, okay, and
(00:45):
they're trying to build their roster. I think similarly to
the Oklahoma City Thunder. Have depth. Now you have to
have a star or two, but you have to have depth.
And that's where you're seeing.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Okay. See.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
The difference with them is they're going to go nine
or ten deep and contribute, and normally in the playoffs,
your rotation will shrink to around seven players, maybe eight players.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
See, they can have SGA sit down and not lose anything.
Wemby will sit down, the Spurs don't lose anything. But
you're seeing a team that is in the embryonic stages
of being a title contender for years to come. And
that's the promising part of this. Now you go back
and you remember when David Robinson got hurt that allowed
(01:29):
the Spurs to get in position to take Tim Duncan.
They won like fifteen games when David was out with
the bad back.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Then you have Wemby.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
If Wemby doesn't have the blood clot last year, they're
not in position to get Dylan Harper the second pick.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Overall.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
They've been very fortunate with lotteries and drafting the right guy.
And Dylan Harper has had a breakout postseason here and
that's the number two pick overall. I mean, they just
missed out on Cooper Flag so he's only twenty years
of age. Castle I think is twenty one, Wenby's twenty two.
(02:08):
This is what you want. Now, you're building something right
before everybody's eyes.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
You know, with Okac you.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Didn't really notice necessarily because you probably weren't watching them,
whereas Wemby you're watching just because you haven't seen somebody
be like that, and you kind of look at that
team and you go, oh, yeah, they got one guy
I know who's pretty good or he's really good. Then
you start to see the totality of the lineup, the
team and depth, and that's what really impresses me, because
(02:37):
in today's NBA, it feels like you need two stars
and then you need your depth and having those guys
under contract, that's really really key moving forward. All righty,
poll question for the first hour of the program, Dylan,
do the honors please. By the way, This first hour
brought to you by z Kleiner. I start my morning

Speaker 4 (03:13):
All righty, Dylan, all right, Dan PAULI sent this one
over the Superstar I'd most want to play with Luka
Shay Gildas, Alexander Nikola, Jokich, Victor Wembanyama other.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Well, I would start with Joker because he will share
the ball and then I would go with Wemby, who
it doesn't feel like. I don't want a ball dominant
guy like Luca. I gotta have a guy who's going
to share the ball, and Wemby and Joker would share
the ball. Wemby, by the way underrated passer. Joker's maybe
(03:51):
the best passer in the game. So I would start
with that, but I Luca an Sga little too ball
dominant for me. You know, if I'm gonna get my shots,
I don't know if I want to play with those guys.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
Yes, what if it's not about getting your shots, Well,
if you're fine not getting the ball.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
It's always about getting your shots. Always. I gotta have
my touches. You gotta have my touches, Yes, Paul.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
You want to have a teammate that's a killer like Luca,
who could close a game. But it's got to be
frustrating knowing that the offense runs through him almost every
time he's on the floor.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Well, it does go through Joker, but Joker passes the ball.
He's not going to be dribbling, you know, Luca's going
to be dribbling. I don't want to play with that,
even though he'll end up with you know, nine or
ten assists in his healthy years. But I don't I
don't want that. Give me, give me two big guys
who are willing to share. So I would say I'd
(04:48):
start with Joker and then I'd go with Wemby. Yes, yes, Tod,
what about Brunson.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
He's a killer, but he's usually like in the top ten,
top fifteen assistantly to say, he's not looking at just chuck.
He's ready to dish the ball out of someone's open.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
He's ball dominant too, I mean, great player, but he's
a little a little more ball dominant.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yes, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (05:08):
Kate Cunningham, he's the guy that loves to share the ball. Also, Yeah, yeah,
I'll give you that one.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, because he was averaging like Tenant, he was leading
the NBA an assists before he got hurt.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yes, Dylan, I think.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Kate Cunningham would also love to have someone to share
the ball.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
That's true.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
That might work on both ways. Yeah, I would beat
Tobias Harris. I'd be fine with that. I'd just stay
in the corner and just have my hands like that.
Just just wait, Yes, Paul.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
You know you play with Wemby, you get beat on defense,
You're probably okay. The guy gets past you, you're probably
gonna be fine.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
It's a good point.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Wemby is making his presence felt when he's on you
as the main defender, you're not scoring.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
He's had.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
He has almost as many blocks has made field goals
with the opposition when he's guarding them. I don't know
if we've had that kind of ratio before, but that's
that's pretty incredible with what he's doing. He went for
twenty seven to seventeen three blocks, and it feels like
there's more blocks than he ends up with because there's
(06:10):
the are you going to take that shot?
Speaker 8 (06:12):
Well?
Speaker 3 (06:12):
I was thinking of it, but I'm not going to now. Yes, Pauline,
we had that.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
Stat a couple weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
What was it?
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Blocks discouraged yet by Wenby. Yeah, we need another stat
for him rebounds while standing, because he gets a lot
of rebounds with minimal effort. The ball just comes, he
tips it to himself and he passes outlet. It's fascinating.
It's fascinating watching him.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Well the other NBA stuff. Darryl Morey fired as NBA
GM in Philadelphia. Nineteen years as a GM, no titles,
no finals appearance, a conference final appearance, and he was
good at giving up a lot of assets to get
stars at all costs, and that's the problem.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
It cost him his job.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
I mentioned this, and I didn't have any information on this,
that maybe you could get Joe Ellenbiid and you could
send him someplace like Sacramento. And then I saw something
yesterday where that Sibonas might be available and Joel Embiid
would go to Sacramento. I'm like, Okay, I don't know
(07:16):
if it's pennies on the dollar that you're going to
get Joel Embiid.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Sibonis is a really good player.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
He battled injuries, but you know he's going to give
you twenty and ten and probably six assists, and he certainly, well,
I would hope healthier than Joe.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
I'm healthier than Joel Embiid. Yes, Marvin, Why.
Speaker 7 (07:36):
Would anyone want Joel Embiid.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I don't know unless you don't want Sabonis. And so
I don't know the backstory with Sibonis as to what
happened in Sacramento other than I know that he had
a lot of injuries.
Speaker 7 (07:50):
Yes, Martin Embiid, he won't even help with ticket sales
because you don't know whether or not he's going to play.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Well, that'll be the big Teas. Hey, come out and
see the big Teas.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
That's yes, Oh that's gonna stick.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, come out, he's the big Teas. Not sure I
dated somebody named the Big T's. Oh yeah, Tez does it?
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Yeah? Uh yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
If the Kings have a good player, they'll probably trade that.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
That's true historically, Yeah, that's true. But you're gonna hear
a lot of this. Uh Yannis, Where would Yannis go?
Could Yannis go to Golden State? Could Yannis go to
the Celtics? Felt like that's where he was headed a
couple of years ago. That could you trade Jannis for
Jalen Brown? Jalen Brown gets his own team. Be careful
(08:38):
what you ask for. But if if I'm Milwaukee, would
you do that? And the answer would be yes, If
I'm Boston, would I do that? They should still be playing.
They were up three to one. This isn't one of those,
okay see situations when you're up three to one on
(09:00):
Golden State and then you lose and then Kevin Durant
goes to Golden State. I wouldn't panic unless I thought
that these two didn't necessarily get along, and then you're
going to bring in Giannis. Okay, but you're gonna hear
a lot of things. There might not be reports as
much as you're gonna hear. What about like Kevin Durant, Well,
(09:23):
what about going to Golden State? Back to Golden State
because it feels like his days in Houston are done?
Speaker 7 (09:30):
Yes, Marvin, I'm always flabbergasted by this Boston Celtics trade
rumors with Tatum and Brown because it's been working. They've
gone to a finals, they've won a championship. Is it
just ego based? Almost like the Kobe and Shack situation?
Speaker 2 (09:43):
But I've never heard anything about that neither. So that's
why I wouldn't panic. If you're spending a lot of
money on them and you're gonna have them under contract,
it's hard to get two great players, and they are.
Jalen Brown was a MVP candidate this year in what
(10:04):
we thought was a gap year for this team. That's
why I wouldn't panic on this. Now, I might look
at moving some other pieces, Derek White maybe, but then
how much do you really need to do? Like when
you're healthy, you're probably still the best team in the East.
Tatum didn't play in Game seven. That's why I don't know. Look,
(10:30):
I love to see movement. I like to see change
with you know, some of these players. Get Giannis out
of Milwaukee, put him on a team, give him a
different look. Maybe gets a chance to play for a title.
If Jalen Brown wants to have his own team, okay,
here's your own team. Ask James Harden how that worked
(10:51):
when he left to go to Houston. So you're gonna
hear a lot of NBA stuff and it feels like
these are just let me throw it against the wall
and see. I had no information that Sacramento would be
interested in joelmb or that that's a possibility, but I
did mention that, okay, maybe something like that, and then
(11:12):
all of a sudden, it's like, you know, I could
see some bonus for joellenb I don't know how the
numbers match up. I don't play the salary cap game
because it has to do with math, and Paully promised
there'd be no math on this show.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Nope, but any other poll question, Yes, Dylan, I was.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Going to say, was that part of the process play?
Fifty percent of your games and then get shipped off
the Sacramento Yeah not great.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah, yeah more.
Speaker 7 (11:39):
Joel Embiid he's the only MVP to never play in
the conference finals.
Speaker 9 (11:44):
WHOA, that's not a stat that you want.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Staut of the dayrot to you by a Panini America,
the official trading cards of the program. Here's another thing
to keep an eye out on with the Detroit series
if you are indeed watching this. Jalen Duran during the
regular season was great. Almost twenty and ten average, nineteen
and a half and ten and a half rebounds. He
has five single digit scoring nights so far in eleven
(12:19):
playoff games. Evan Mobley, Jared Allen very good defenders. But
if you want a max contract, oh boy, when your
backup Paul Reid is out playing you, that doesn't bode
well for Jalen Duran to get a big time contract.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Here.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
All of a sudden, it's hey, I'm averaging twenty and
ten and we're in the playoffs and the number one seed,
I'm an All star. Everything's great, and then all of
a sudden, it's like, uh, wait, what happened under the
max contract I was supposed to get. So keep an
eye on that if you're watching the game tonight, Yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
I'm looking back at the seventy six ers draft history.
It's fascinating. Remember twenty thirteen Michael Carter Williams of Syracuse.
He looked like he was gonna be a thing for
a while. He couldn't shoot, no, but he looked like
one of those Rondo type players. Then they get him
Embiid starts slow, becomes great. Then with a third pick
in fifteen, they get jalil okafor who everybody loved coming out,
(13:20):
didn't work out, Ben Simmons in sixteen, markel Foltz in seventeen.
Oh man, it gets better because Tyrese Maxi and now Edgecumbe. Man,
that's a tough run.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
And I remember after that draft.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Now I had a source involved in the situation and
he was saying, I hope that Philadelphia will take markel
Fults because he said the best player in this draft
is Jason Tatum and I said it on the show.
So if I'm getting information like this, like what information
did Philly get where they go? You know what we
(13:55):
want to go up and we want to get Mark
kel Foltz, who won nine games in his one year
in come and even Lonzo Ball was a better pick
than markel Foltz. And you know, of course he's had
knee injuries here, but you're you're just thinking, are you
overthinking these things?
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Like how do you whiff? You know?
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Ben Simmons started out played pretty well, and I thought, Okay,
he's just going to be one of those guys who
has a lot of rebounds, a lot of assist and
will score fifteen to eighteen points again and be a
good defender, like okay, good pick safe, pick oka four.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
All right.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
That's one of those where you watch, you know, a
college game, and you go, that guy is great, and
then all of a sudden you watch a pro game
and you go, that guy is not great.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
Yeah, Paul, that draft is pretty fascinating because outside of
the lottery, bam Adebayo, Donovan, Mitchell, Josh Hart, og Ananobi,
Derek White, Laurie Markinen, a lot of really nice players.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Well yeah, dang, yes, Dylan.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
I felt so bad for him Mark el Foltz when
like the whole Yips things started there, because it was like,
Philly is not exactly the nicest situation to not pan.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Out in of other possibilities I had never heard of
the shooting yips. I'd never now Guys will get into
routines at the free throw line because it's it will
paralyze you if you've never shot an important free throw
in front of even one hundred people or a thousand people,
and then you put nineteen thousand, and then you have
(15:28):
a playoff game hanging in the balance, and you're at
their free throw line. Everybody's yelling and screaming, and you're
just standing there, and then all of a sudden, you
need movement, you need noise, and all of a sudden
you get paralyzed.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
Yeah, Paul, you said something the other day off air
that stuck with me about. I think it was Giannis.
He's really slow on his free throws, and he's actually
gotten worse as his career has gone along. How do
you practice those free throws and you take ten seconds
between shots?
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (15:56):
When I would see Sergio Garcia like double pull, regrip, grip, regrip, grip,
and I go, how do you go to the practice
range and practice that? How do you shoot free throws
where you struggle to shoot in ten seconds? That's where
you get a quick routine. It's I would bounce left
(16:18):
twice in Boom Up Go. That's it, never ever varied,
but if you get there, get into a quicker routine.
Speaker 1 (16:28):

Speaker 2 (17:10):
All right, Dylan Pole, question for hour two is going
to be.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
What I would you like a quick recap of hour one?
Speaker 8 (17:16):
For sure?
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Alrighty?
Speaker 4 (17:18):
The superstar you'd most want to play with Luka Doncik,
Shay Gilgess, Alexander Nikola, Jokic or Victor Wemba Yama forty
four percent say wemby m I followed by Jokic, and
then I threw this one out there, which of the
NFL international games would you most want to attend based
on the food of the city. Thirty eight percent say Madrid,
(17:39):
followed by thirty four percent for Perie. I have been
to Australia, I have been to Rio, I've been to London.
I've been to Paris, haven't been to Madrid, haven't been
to Munich, been to Mexico City. Those are the games
that have been revealed. Adam Schefter had this earlier. Is
this all of the international games?
Speaker 3 (17:58):
PAULI?
Speaker 2 (17:58):
I think that's it okay, because we're going to get
to the point where every team will play an international game,
and that's when we get to eighteen, and then that's
going to be sold as an international package. I've been
telling you this for the last couple of years that
this is where we're headed. Eighteenth game. Everybody is going
to play an international game. They want teams to have
(18:21):
a hub headquarters. That's our town, that's our city, that's
our country.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
They want that.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
You got Melbourne, you got the Rams and the Niners,
you got the Cowboys and Ravens in Rio de Janeiro
weeks four through six in London, it'll be Colts, Commanders, Eagles, Jags,
and then the Texans in the Jags. Week seven you'll
have Paris that will be the Saints and the Steelers.
(18:51):
Week nine Madrid that will be the Bengals and the Falcons.
Week ten will be the Lions and the Patriots in Munich,
and then week eleven the Niners and Vikings in Mexico City.
Let's see one in Miami. Hi Wan, what's on your
mind today?
Speaker 11 (19:10):
Hi Dan? How are I'm calling from Miami? I see
they released the NFL international schedule and I see the
Jaguars are playing twice yet in Europe and Miami got nothing.
So what did the Jaguars do during the day of all?
Did they just explore the different cities? Are just curious?
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Well, they'll stay there in London, they'll be there for
a couple of weeks and just you know, stay acclimated
to the time change. But get ready for more of this.
This is what the NFL wants. The NFL wants expansion,
and expansion is not necessarily with games. That's not why
they're all in on flag football. They want flag football.
(19:48):
The NFL to be associated with flag football and vice versa.
That's why they wanted in the Olympics, because you can
build globally flag football with the NFL logo on that,
it'd be hard for a lot of these different regions
in the world to be able to get the equipment,
you know, just the money to have a football team
(20:08):
or football teams or leagues. This way, with flag football,
you don't need anything. You need a football field, you
need flags, and you need a football.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
That's what the NFL the globalization because baseball has this.
Baseball has globalization, whether it's in the Dominican Republic, or
it's in Puerto Rico, or it's in Japan, Korea. The
NBA has this as well. There's going to be an
NBA Europe League that's going to be happening very soon.
(20:39):
Then they'll be in the big cities. Talking to somebody
who his job is to bring two parties together to
sell portions of teams, whether it's baseball, football, basketball, soccer,
and he was saying that these price tags for these
European cities to get a European An NBA Europe franchise
(21:01):
are going to surprise a lot of people of how
much they're going to spend.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Yes, Paul.
Speaker 5 (21:06):
The other bonus for the NFL with these European games.
Now they have another window. They found that nine to
thirty am Eastern window. Even though it's wonky and you're
like you're not ready for football yet, it's another window.
On a Sunday they have live NFL.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
The London games never look exciting. I don't know what
it is you did it? Just they look slower. Maybe
the grass is a little higher.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
It's just weird when I watch a London game, I
don't know the last time I went man?
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Was that a shootout? Or wow? That was that was
the best game of the day.
Speaker 7 (21:42):
Yes, Mark, you have the locals wearing like Troy Aikman
jerseys saying go NFL.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Or you get Rob Low where he has just L
logo on his hats, parting all the teams.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Yes, Dylan, I mean you are always watching the Jags
in the London, so that could contribute to the slow look.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Okay, but now it's a new look Jags. True. Yeah,
so maybe those games will be exciting.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
But so is that what you're saying? Basically, how the
Jags have basically conquered London. They're going to try and
do that with other So each team's going to have
their own hubs internationally.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Yes, but this now.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Leading up to this, the last couple of years, I
think there was a lot of speculation that could Jacksonville,
you know, move there, And I think this is the
NFL's way of saying, no, we don't want to have
a team in a designated city or country. We want
to share the wealth with the rest of the world.
(22:41):
I mean the fact you're going to Melbourne. Okay, it's
a long way to go, and how many fans will
be able to go, but it might be really big,
you know, with rugby in Melbourne, and that you're going
to get a great audience to show up. You want
to make sure you're filling seats. Yes, deal.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Yeah, and they have like Austie rules football there, like,
that's probably a market primed for it.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
I would think, yeah, now everythink so.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
And you could go out there and you're gonna have demonstrations.
Maybe you could play a rugby game for the media
when they come over there.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Maybe you could get publicity. I mean, the.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
NFL, it's hard to screw up. It's like March madness,
it's hard to screw it up. Like they'll somehow figure
it out or they'll move past some kind of problem
and we'll watch.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Yeah. Deal.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Have they been able to quantify much of like a
true fan based growth in London for the Jags, because
like they've played there enough years now you'd think that
would have started to develop. But you, like Marvin said,
you look in the audience and you're like, oh, it's
a Michael Crabtree jersey.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Like there's just all.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Random Yeah, I don't know with the love affairs, especially
in that part of the country. They love their soccer.
But you know when when you show up and you're
not wearing a jersey of somebody who's actually on the
team that you're out there watching. Uh, maybe it's just
the novelty of being able to go to see American
(24:08):
football in person.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Yes, it feels like the NFL thinks of Europe and
those other countries, like, why not let's do this over
the course of decades because we've maxed out America. There's
not a place in America where they're not aware of
the NFL. Why not go international?
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Andrew in Atlanta, Hi, Andrew, what's on your mind?
Speaker 11 (24:24):
Today, first time, long time six' two three hundred ish.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Ish, yeah drive into the streets Of.

like was it a pass?
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Fail? Eric there was no? Test, yeah, Yes.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
Marvin Now fritzie would have got an. Incomplete he had got.
Hurt oh that's.
Speaker 6 (25:50):

strained an elbow or some got a tendon.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Problem mike In, California, Hi, mike what's on your mind?
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Today? Hey dan?
Speaker 8 (26:00):
EIGHT i heard the gentleman call in earlier About Steve.
SARKISIAN i am A usc, fan AND i seem to
Remember sarkesian in one game needing to call up to
the booth and have his Ad Pat hayden come down
and do one of his arguments for, him BECAUSE i
(26:22):
think at the time he may have been a little.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Tipsy, yeah that's well documented With steve and his tenure AT.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
USC i just don't know where.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
This i'd like to know the context Of sarkisian taking
a shot At Ole miss talking about NOW i, KNOW
i think it's a ninety seven percent acceptance rate At Old.
MISS i usually don't bring up THE sec with higher.
EDUCATION i don't confuse it With Stanford Notre, dame their
(26:54):
inclusion there THE. Ivy, yes, like, okay aren't we all
kind of in this? Together And Steve starkesian bringing up
basket weaving At Old? Miss do we know what was
said for him to then say, that Like Lane kiffen
did a four hour interview with The Vanity, fair and you,
know there was a topic on recruiting and he got around, to,
(27:17):
hey you, KNOW i had to deal with the parents
and grandparents not wanting to come here because of the
racial past Of Old. Miss Did lane kiffen volunteer that
he tried to change? That, like you can be critical
of Old. Miss did you change it in any? Way
(27:39):
when were you made aware that there could be parents
and grandparents who didn't want their child or grandchild to go?
There and shouldn't you have done something about? It and
you're you're going TO lsu like. That that was the
thing that shocked me so Old. Miss imagine you wake,
up you're the, chancellor the president in an athletic. Director
(28:01):
all of a, sudden you, go, uh, hey we're trending
today for anything. Good, no, no, no they're bringing up
segregation and they're bringing up basket.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Weaving what did we? Do they didn't do?
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Anything it's like and Then Lane kiffin gave the, hey
if you were bothered by, THIS i apologize not understanding
why people might be bothered by. This maybe diversity would
have been a little better word than. Segregation Martin Luther kiffin,
here come, on they both had a. Dream, yeah his
(28:40):
dream was to make a boatload of money and go
TO lsu and then blame Old miss along the.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Way, Yes, tom not to.
Speaker 6 (28:47):
Pylon but is there enough dorms in campus housing for
school that lets literally almost every single person that applies
in got to cut at some.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Point they don't have to let everybody.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
In ninety percent rates is, Fascinating.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Thank, You.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Todd, yes we did this last week with The Ivy.
League do you want to play? Guests the emission rate
OF sec TEAMS sec schools.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Give me The, well let's Take vandy out of.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
It, No, NO i have to Take vandy because they're
probably like ten nine percent or.
Speaker 5 (29:16):
Something vandy's acceptance rate is the toughest in THE sec
at five point nine. Pero it was last. Year, Dang,
hey we're gonna go easy, First, okay the easiest school
to get into in THE.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Sec, yes as of last. Year, Well i'm gonna say
Old miss you'd be.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
Correct, yeah ninety six point, Six, dan we rounded up.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
To, no, okay be, fair, okay second EASIEST sec.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
School to get, into somewhat.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
Surprising.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Oklahoma anyone? Else, Yes Florida, No, No florida is. Tough
that's why he said. SURPRISING i was, like it's a
good School University.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
Kentucky. Okay next on the list is The university Of
zuri and Then Mississippi State, Alabama. Oklahoma that give us
the top toughest schools to get into in the.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Season so we Take vandy.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Out vandy's, Out vandy is, out AND i am, Out.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Todd do you want to offer up?
Speaker 2 (30:16):
One?
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Texas texas is third twenty six point six. Percent, no
they don't have, bounce could? Weave they got forty three
thousand kids down, There, Yes, dylan.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
And florida's probably up there in the hard to get, in, Right, Yes.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
Florida's second twenty four percent Over.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Texas, really, Wow, Floridaida florida is surprisingly.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
TOUGH lsu is is IT lsu closer To Ole miss
or To?
Speaker 5 (30:44):
VANDY lsu is closer To ole miss seventy three percent
in the?
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Middle, okay all, right who's number? One number?
Speaker 5 (30:52):
One vandy by, Far, Okay but who's? Second it Was.
Florida oh, well we Knew vandy was the toughest.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
ONE i am so.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Prize Of florida is ahead Of Tech florida's a great,
school But texas is, like, Yeah, paul.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
There's a cavey out. There florida is relatively, inexpensive both
in state and out of, state which means they have
a ton of. Applications relatively, inexpensive they, Cheated, Yes, todd if.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
You can find this just kind of in the middle of.
NOWHERE i remember taking the kids as looking for. Schools
that's that's quite a.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
Trip get To. Gainesville gainesville tough to. Find it's not
tough to.
Speaker 6 (31:27):
Find now WITH, gps but like you're driving for a
while and you're, like there's really hope there's a school
down at the end of this.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
World Central florida is an interesting. Place did you HAVE? Gps, Ton,
yeah we.
Speaker 6 (31:36):
Didn't get lost or. Anything it's like we're just on
this long. Road it's, Like, WOW i hope this is
gonna be everything we thought it. Was when we finally get,
there it's a long.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Straightaway you could be negative about, anything you really.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Can't it was a beautiful campus once we got. There.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Ye, Yes i'm sure the scenery was nice. Too it
was WHEN i first walked ON usc campus with my,
Son i'm, like oh my, god IF i didn't go
to school At. DAYTON i never would have gone to.
CLASS i don't think AT usc although to you, know
what to think about, it all the beautiful people gone to.
Class MAYBE i would have gone to class a little.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
More, Yes, Paul university Of florida in state tuition six
thousand bucks a.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Year that is.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
Fair that is a. Bargain that's.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
Nice, Yes Dylan Also sark was talking smack about basket.
Weaving The university Of texas offers a class Called arguing
The end of The. World they seem about equally as
productive as basket.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Leaving Fox Sports radio has the best sports talk lineup
in the. Nation catch all of our shows At Foxsports
radio Dot com and within The iHeartRadio. App SEARCH fsr
to listen.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Live Big Game James worthy said to join us The
hall Of famer and studio analysts For Spectrum, sportsnet co
host Of Access, sportsnet the network's pregame postgame show for
The lakers game.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Telecast how are you doing? Today? Dan how are you?
Buddy always good to see, you.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Brother when did you know this season was gonna be
shaky for The lakers or they might not have championship?
Speaker 12 (33:11):
ASPIRATIONS i, think you, know right before The All Star,
game before They All star, break you, KNOW i had
doubt because the, chemistry you, know hadn't arrived. Yet you,
know everybody has. INJURIES i don't really say that was
(33:33):
a major, part but you, know Having luca come, in
he had half a season last, year they didn't really
develop the cohesiveness that they that they. Needed but After
All Star, break, okay they made a surge AND i
think they found their. Identity UH jj had enrolled them
(33:55):
into defense. First but when you look at the makeup
of the, team you, KNOW i didn't see championship, quality you, know,
EVER i saw a team that could. Compete but when
you look At, Oklahoma San, antonio you, Know, detroit some
of the other teams That lakers just had not arrived there.
(34:16):
Yet there were still some missing pieces or some development
that need to take.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Place, okay but moving, forward let's say next, season do
you just kind of run it back with the same
guys that you're going to have, to you, know spend
money On, lebron spend money On Austin. Reeves do you
bring Back Ayton luca hopefully will be. Healthy so what
would your solution be for The lakers approach next.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
SEASON i think they definitely need to make some.
Speaker 12 (34:45):
CHANGES i don't think you could run it back with
the Same you, Know Western conference teams that are going
to get, Stronger minnesota is going to get. STRONGER i
think one of the things that was lacking was in
the cent your. POSITION i think ayden is a is
a is a great. PLAYER i don't know if consistently
(35:08):
what we NEED u what any team needs is a
Heart stegn Like, oklahoma not necessarily a, star but you
need a, bruiser you need somebody that's. CONSISTENT i think
The lakers will be looking at that. AREA i LIKE
i Like. Hayes he was a backup, center SO i
like his. ENERGY i think The lakers are very interested
(35:31):
in Keeping Austin, reeves although you know he would be
a guy that would teams would want if you were
looking to make a big. MOVE i think the big
question is going to be what's Then lebron's decision going to,
be and uh is he going to come? Back how
much he's gonna play? For AND i think that's THE
(35:52):
i think that's the question of the.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Summer you don't want to run into a situation like
The steelers have With Aaron rodgers where you're kind of
waiting and waiting and waiting, out, like when is the
point where The lakers can, Say, lebron we need to
know what you want to do so we can move
forward as.
Speaker 12 (36:09):
Well it's been a couple of, days a few. DAYS
i would hope that they, are you, know discussing those
possibilities right now with the new ownership and the new you,
know personnel that's coming in in the front.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Office, uh it's.
Speaker 12 (36:27):
It's not it's not necessarily the the mom and pop
approach that we're used to where families all and you.
GET i think they're going to, demand you, know decision,
uh and so that's yet to be, seen BUT i
WOULD i.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
WOULD i would think.
Speaker 12 (36:42):
You know that in the next you, know a couple of,
weeks they would want to, know, hey look what are your?
Options you know what this is your you, know you're
forty one years, old what do you want to? Do
first of, all and go from, there because you, know
time is valuable as they start to make these decisions
about the future of The.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Lakers talking To James, worthy hall Of famer and number
one overall pick back in nineteen eighty two by The.
Lakers when did you get a sense That Michael jordan
was better than?
Speaker 3 (37:10):
You?
Speaker 12 (37:13):
Uh, well you KNOW i have that famous line THAT
i you know THAT i always. QUOTE i always tell
PEOPLE i was a, Junior michael's a, freshman and you
KNOW i was always better than he. Was you, know
for about two WEEKS i. KNEW i knew, that you,
know his freshman. Year you could you could tell something
(37:34):
about a person's, personality and he wasn't exactly like like An,
edwards you, know and ed was is he's on The
olympic team talking.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Trash he.
Speaker 12 (37:44):
Doesn't michael had, that and he always wanted to like
challenge you like he wanted. To he KNEW i was
the best gall on the, team so he wanted to
play one on one all the. Time SO i knew
about the first really about the first month of practice
that this guy has.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Something specially when you go to The lakers and you
have to accept a. ROLE i mean you could have
played for you, know throw out a team and probably
average twenty seven to twenty eight a game if you wanted,
to but you have to kind of convince yourself or
how do you convince? YOURSELF i might be the third
option on this, team But i'm on a great team
(38:20):
as opposed to being a star and the number one guy.
Speaker 12 (38:23):
Elsewhere, YEAH i, MEAN i think a lot of that
had to do with playing for a coach Like Dean,
smith who he didn't care. For you with the towel,
boy Or Michael, jordan you're, gonna you, know submit to
being the. Team and you, KNOW i had Met magic
on a college visit In Michigan. STATE i Knew mitch Cup,
(38:47):
CHET i Knew bob. McAdoo so WHEN i knew they were,
INTERESTED i KNEW i wasn't. GONNA i wasn't gonna, start you.
Know SO i knew the concept of. TEAM i, Know
kareem Abdul jabbar had played four years With John. Wooden
Marl wilkes had played four years With John, wooden you,
Know mitch Cup check four years With John. Wooden Pat
riley coming from you, know an experience In. Kentucky SO
(39:11):
i knew winning would, come BUT i also THOUGHT i could.
START i came into training, camp AND i you, KNOW
i looked at everybody And, kareem you, know, Uh, Magic Norm,
nixon and and and and THEN i and THEN i
Saw Kirk rammis coming the, gym AND i, said this
gathered like he hadn't showered in like a, week and
(39:32):
he smells Like Ben. Gay he's got all this stuff,
On he's got this duct tape holding his glasses. Together
AND i was, LIKE i can get that. Position i'm,
QUICKER i can score well within five. Minutes Kirk, rammers
let me know what AN NB a power forward.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
WAS i didn't want to have anything to do with.
Speaker 11 (39:49):
It.
Speaker 12 (39:50):
DAN i went over there and sit in my answer
Behind bob McAdoo At Kirk, rammers AND i. Waited, man
he beat the crap out of, him AND i couldn't take.
It AND i became a small four after.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
That you, know but teams back then had an, enforcer
AND i was wondering about that With victor Windin. Yama
you don't in today's. Game you don't have that Designated Charles.
Oakley uh you, Know Jeff, ruling, like, guys we're gonna
rough you up a little bit. Here that Does San
(40:20):
antonio need that kind of guy to help Protect Victor.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Windinyama you have to protect your. Asset, okay we.
Speaker 12 (40:30):
Did we didn't even speak to each other after the,
game you, KNOW i see guys all hugging up after
the game all the. Time we, didn't you, know we might,
point we'll see you at the restaurant or. Something but
you do have to protect your. Asset he should not
have to, be, uh you, know the, enforcer although you
know you gotta.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Be you got to meet force with, force which he's.
Speaker 12 (40:49):
He does and he's capable of someone on that team has,
to you, know be the enforcer protect him from all
that type of.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Stuff can you Compare Vic benyama to Prime kareem when
you got there with The?
Speaker 12 (41:04):
Lakers not, really you, Know victor is a unique. SPECIMEN
i mean he's A Steph, curry you, know a shooter
With Kobe bryant agility and you know defense Like Bill.
Russell we've never seen anything like. It the way he.
(41:24):
MOVES I i saw him bring the ball up the
court maybe twenty times last, night, spinning and he's a
great assist guy we've never. Seen i'd like to see
him at that aspect of his, game somewhere in the
game where they would post him up Like. Kareem he
thought it wouldn't even be a sky, hook it'd be
(41:44):
a sky.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
Dunk but he just.
Speaker 12 (41:46):
Dunked so but, yeah he's he's got many talents and
he's he's going to get. Better he has he has
the right, attitude he wants to, win and, uh he's
he's a, great great addition to THE nba for.
Speaker 2 (41:59):
Sure why is it more big men didn't adopt The kareem.
Skyhook it's it's it's, odd, right you, know it's such
a beautiful. Shot BUT i don't think people realize how
difficult the shot. Was you, know there were many parts to.
Speaker 12 (42:17):
It it was it was, footwork it was it was,
eyesight and it was. Timing you, Know kareem he would
look you off with his, eyes he would fake you
with the, past and then he would step in with
precision and and and you couldn't get to. It if
if you tried to get to, it you would have
your whole face reconstructed with that with that. Elbow so you,
(42:40):
KNOW i think he tried to teach, guys but you,
know it wasn't like you, know as as the game
started to, evolve it wasn't. Pretty you, know guys wasn't posting.
UP i don't even think guys do to know what
the mic and drill is. Anymore But, kareem you, know
that's the most beautiful, shot Uh and in, SPORTS i
think it dominates the. DUCK i THINK i think it's
(43:01):
more more beautiful and you know than the dunk.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
Itself the most unstoppable shot IN nba, history.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
Yes without.
Speaker 12 (43:10):
QUESTION i, mean you know When Larry bird got, hot
you know that jumper that But, kareem there was no stopping,
it and it had the counter to. It you, Know
he'd shoot forty nine scot hooks and then when you
thought you had, it he drops step and shoot an easier.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
Layup he was just a.
Speaker 12 (43:26):
Masterful and you, know for me being on the other
side of the post and just watching it from, like you,
know eight feet, AWAY i didn't realize WHAT i was
watching until like right now When i'm talking to, you
it's it's just. Science hopefully we'll see another shot like,
That BUT i can't even think of a shot, that you,
know compares to the skyhook that that will.
Speaker 2 (43:47):
Last every time that we have you, ON i always
think back to you telling the story when you're in
the garden and you're, guarding you're supposed to Guard larry
and you lose of him and he's got the jumper
in the corner to win the.
Speaker 3 (44:05):
Game, Yeah and did you ever talk To bird.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
About, LIKE i don't know how you guys when you
guys get, together do you you swap?
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Stories do you have you? KNOW i don't.
Speaker 12 (44:17):
Know never never talked To, bird you, know after after
our last time.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
PLAYING i, MEAN i THINK i saw him at The
hall Of.
Speaker 12 (44:25):
Fame we might have adapped up and, uh but we
never talked about that.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Play but, yeah that was A that was an awesome.
Speaker 12 (44:33):
PLAY i Had Larry bird at like the free throw
line extended on the baseline And Danny ainge was in
the corner And cooper was guarding. Him SO i thought
it was gonna be some kind of, picking we were gonna.
Switch what happened is they Cleared Danny ainge out baseline
and And Larry bird pushed me up and they threw
(44:56):
that ball. Over AND i got to tell, You, dan
he doesn't. Miss he doesn't. Miss And i've never told anybody,
this BUT i THINK i peed on myself a little
bit when.
Speaker 2 (45:10):
That.
Speaker 12 (45:11):
Ball when he got that, ball, MAN i was, like
oh my, god. Damn and KNOW i was, like but
he missed. It he saw me. Coming he must have
seen his periphic. VISION i don't know if that distracted.
HIM i doubt that it, did but, yeah so there it.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
Is. Man that Was that was a big.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Moment could you have imagined What riley would have said
to you If larry hits that? Shot could you had
your job is to make Sure larry doesn't beat?
Speaker 12 (45:39):
Us how many people have succeeded at? THAT i would
have been added to the list of people that. Failed you,
know it was a great. Play it was a great.
Play and you know it's like you don't stop magic
skyhook that many Skyhook you, know you don't stop. Magic
you don't Stop, michael you, know Against cleveland When craig
(46:01):
had great defense on, him and you, know it was
just a great. Play when they Cleared danny, OUT i
was on top side. Denying MAYBE i shouldn't have been,
denying but When coop was down, there but when they
Cleared danny, out it was nothing but.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
Space AND i would have blamed it on.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
Somebody how often do you See Michael?
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Jordan you, know?
Speaker 12 (46:23):
Rarely you, KNOW i see him IN nba. Events sometimes
he's In. Charlotte i've yet to go down and play
his golf tournament BECAUSE i JUST i.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
DON'T i don't gamble that. Much, MAN i. CAN'T i.
Speaker 12 (46:39):
CAN'T i can't roll with. Him but every now and, then,
Man i'll see himgl a lot of. People we had
like six months together in, college.
Speaker 3 (46:46):
AND i know his family. Well but you, KNOW i Love.
Speaker 12 (46:50):
Michael we're not as close as people who think we,
are but you, know when we see each, other it's,
always you, know. Memorable and we talk About Coach smith
and you, Know Coach, williams and we reminisce about you,
know our one year we had.
Speaker 2 (47:03):
Together how much money do you have to bring to
those golf games With?
Speaker 3 (47:07):
Mike, Well i've never gambled With. MIKE i know.
Speaker 12 (47:12):
Better see you, know sometimes you got to step away from.
There so those mult time, Billionaires i'm a multi five dollars, there, man.
Speaker 3 (47:23):
You're one thousand dollars, there you're a thousand.
Speaker 12 (47:26):
