Here on The Deal we have interviewed  some of the world’s most famous athletes and some of the most powerful people in sports. But today we welcome our most important guests and probably our hosts’ biggest critics: their children.

In this special Father’s Day episode of The Deal, Alex and Jason’s kids join us to share some perspective on who their dads are off the air. First up, Natasha and Ella Rodriguez give us the inside scoop on Alex’s past as a musical theatre star and which TikTok trends he struggled to master. They also offer him some style advice and share their favorite family memories. Next, we hear from Jason’s sons, Henry and Will, about their dad’s level of Knicks fandom, who is the Josh Hart of the Kelly family and what Jason taught them about appreciating sports. Our closer is Alice Kelly, who asks Alex Rodriguez one of the most pressing questions of his career… does he like Pokémon?

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Bloomberg Audio Studios, Podcasts, Radio News.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Welcome back to the Deal. I'm Jason Kelly alongside my
partner Alex Rodriguez. All right, Alex, So we've interviewed a
lot of important people on this show, some of the
literally most famous athletes in the world, billionaires, entrepreneurs. But
today something a little bit different. We've been talking about
this for a couple of years. I can't believe it's

(00:32):
finally happening. Maybe the toughest interviews we've ever done, or
at least the most worrisome our children.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Why are we doing this? I bet that's a great question.
I'm not sure whose idea it was, but here we go.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
We're going to do it.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Jason, I'm usually very excited about auto interviews. Today I'm
both excited and nervous, especially my little one Ella. You'll see,
that's going to be a freshman at North Carolina next year.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
She is spicy to say the least.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah, yeah, all right. So Natasha and Ella, your two daughters,
they are in as you said, Ella's getting ready to
go to college and Tasha is already in college. And
then you have my two sons, Will who's twenty three,
Henry who's twenty one. And then the real wild card, Alice.
She's eight. She's got a lot of thoughts and she's
got some questions, she's got a lot of answers. And

(01:19):
what's fun about this is I'm gonna ask your daughter
some questions. You're gonna ask my sons and daughter some questions.
We don't know the questions that each of us are
gonna ask. That's the most worrisome part because, by the way,
I know my questions for your daughters, and so I
can only imagine what you're gonna ask my sons. But
they're excited too.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Yours are spicy.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
And this is the part of the game show that
I don't love.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
But here we are. It's gonna be a great one.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
And I have to say I know that's the case
for my boys. They love sports, and Alice, I mean,
there's gonna be a lot of knicks talk. I can
predict that because they've been laser focused on that. I
think your daughters are more theater kids. But you know,
they obviously grew up up in the uh not just
in the shadow, but practically on the on the fields
of Major League Baseball. So they've got they've got some

(02:06):
takes on sports as well. I would imagine they do, and.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
They have strong opinions, and you hear them.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Strong opinions about you. I know that, I know I
know them enough to know that that's true. All right,
So coming up our kids for a special Father's Day
edition of The Deal. So alex As discussed, this is

(02:36):
a very special episode of our show. We've talked to
a lot of important people, no more important people in
our lives than our children, and so we're gonna do
our first segment with your daughters, Natasha and Ella. So
before I ask them some questions, why don't you introduce
them to our audience.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Well, thank you, Jason.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yes, this is very exciting. I'm usually very excited to
interview all our guests as we speak about offline, but
this one I'm excited and nervous because my daughters can
say anything at any point. I'm going to start introducing
Natasha Rodriguez. She was raised right here in Miami. She's
at the University of Michigan. She's a rising senior.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Next year.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
She's in musical theater, which they have a great program,
and right now she's in Wichita doing a little bit.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Of musical theater.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
On the other corner, I have Ela Rodriguez, who just
graduated high school. She has a great, great passion around
sports management. She's very excited to start at the University
of North Carolina next year, where she'll be a freshman.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Go tar heels.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
I know you guys, I mean, you picked two very
good sports goals. All right, nice job introducing them, Alex.
You know, although I have to say, girls, I'm going
to say this to start. Your dad is pretty cool,
calm and collected, like on the field and on this show.
He's the most nervous I've ever seen him on this show,
by the way, Like we've interviewed Magic Johnson, We've interviewed

(04:01):
Bill Belichick. Ella, your your future coach at your school. Like, no,
he's he's cool, cool as the other side of the pillow.
He's like, you know, up to bat at Yankee Stadium.
But you know, you two get on and all of
a sudden, he's like, uh uh, all right, so this
is good. I like this.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
I like, I must have made. I wrote I must
have made. I'm starting to interrupt you.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I wrote to both of them this morning, and I
usually write like something like, you know, good morning, gorgeous
or whatever?

Speaker 4 (04:26):
How'd you sleep?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
And you know, what do you have planned in your day?
And Natasha roeback and said, you don't know what we're
doing today? Yes, besides that, so they've been ready.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, yeah, all right. So Natasha, I'm going to start
with you because your dad mentioned your your musical theater
and all that you're doing in the theater. It sounds
like you're having an awesome summer there between years at
at Michigan Go Blue, and so this is a musical
theater question. Okay, if you had to cast your dad

(04:58):
in a musical or to write a musical about it, like,
what would it be? What's the musical theater interpretation of
the Alex Rodriguez story?

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Oh wow, I might have to write that. I don't
know if that exists yet. Well, my dad wasn't a
musical in his lifetime. He was in Greece in eighth grade.
He played Danny Zuko and he's told me.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
That no is yes, and he right, yes, but he.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
Remembers picking up a girl and that would have been
whoever played Sandy. I don't know who she is or
where she is right now, and I don't have footage
of this like I need it. And so if anybody
watching this has footage of Greece at Saint Thomas in Miami,
will right, yes, yeah, please send it our way.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
We need it. I know someone has that. So I
don't think there's.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
A character that encapsulates his personality in his life. But
if he had to play a character, I'd probably put
him in Hairspray as Corny Collins, who is the host
of a Corny Collins show, and I love has I'm
actually going to be in it later this summer.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
You can see it, right, Ella, I can Yeah, I
can see Daddy's doing that.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
Because like he doesn't have to dance, he doesn't really have.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Like it's all personality.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
It's all personal.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
It's kind of like hosting this show. It's like hosting
a podcast or like commentating, which he has experienced with.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
He just like introduces a lot of confidence too, which
we can get on that a lot of.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
He always he always gets to wear a suit. Daddy
loves to wear a suit.

Speaker 6 (06:40):
Yea.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
You know, so I think perfect. I think it'd be
a perfect role for him.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
I think this is great. I mean, first of all,
this footage is going to come to life. I am
confident that someone has a VHS tape. I mean, if
those even I mean, I don't know, maybe it's Beta
Max Alex. We're not young men, so I mean, who
knows how. It's not like someone could record it on
their phone. But all right, so great. So the Saint
Thomas production.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
We need a little ai an ai him playing that character.
We need someone to get him to make that right.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
So so so now this is the answer to the
trivia question. What do Alex Rodriguez and John Travolta have
in common? They both played Danny Zuko. All right, that's good.
I'm so so Ella. I think you and your sister
were prime architects of this via social media, that your
dad got into some TikTok dances and trends with a
lot of encouragement from you guys. Which one do you

(07:34):
think he was the best at and which was he
the worst at?

Speaker 1 (07:38):
We did them a lot in quarantine because not much
to do around the house, so we resorted to TikTok dances,
and I think I think what made them fun was
kind of just like us doing whatever, and we didn't
really stick to them dances that kind of just told him,
like just have fun in the background, like it'll look good.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
Wait, I know which one was the best, which you first?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
I won't forget, I know, I'm just remembering that he
he like ended up meeting like a really famous TikToker,
Charlie Demilio, And I remember when I watched their video,
I was like, wow, like Daddy's actually doing this pretty well,
like better than he ever did with us. So I
feel like I've watched him do better tiktoks than what
he's made with us, if that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
So you guys were good trainer, you were good teachers.
You you sort of like put him out into the world.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
We prepped him.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
We prepped him well for like the big TikTok world,
but like within the house, like I just remember like
kind of just goofing around. I can't remember like one
that he like nailed. Do you rememberyone?

Speaker 5 (08:36):
I know it's not a dance, But my favorite TikTok
that we've done as a family is the one where
you get in a group and like you say this
line and then everybody hypes you up when you say it,
but then like, oh my god, the last no hype
and did we ever post it all or did he

(08:58):
just take it for us?

Speaker 1 (08:59):
No, I can this one. I can explain this one.
My cousin Nick posted because my cousin Nick is a
big TikTok star and trend. I'm sure. I'm sure. Like
if you're watching this, you know the trend. But you
have to say, like just give me my money and
like kind of like a funny voice. And we all
went around and we like when you say it, you

(09:21):
get like a big applause. And then we all planned
prior that when my dad does it, like none of
us laugh or clap, and he came out like really
full force, like ready to go, ready for the applause,
and like it was just like silence, crickets. I can
send you guys the video. J'n give me my money.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Just give him my money.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
Just give me my money.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
King Rod, give me my money. Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yeah, that one might need to resurface. That one was
the best one for sure.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Oh my god. This is this is the most revealing
interview we've ever done on this show. This is amazing.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
It's a roast. I love it.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
You nailed it. Nailed it. That's great. All right. So
the next part is actually there are some visual aids
required for this. We're gonna have some things pop onto
the screen here.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
We're gonna show you.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Three photos of outfits your dad has worn over the years,
and we need you to rank them from worst to best.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
I'm excited. Oh wow, I'm really as bad as I
thought they would be. These are kind of good. Okay, Tasha,
hear me out listening. I'm gonna put like the classic
Dottie uniform, just suit and tie number one. Okay, can
you get behind that?

Speaker 6 (10:52):
I can get behind that.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
I'm between I'm between suit walking down the street and
the call because that's.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Just like so of the time iconic.

Speaker 6 (11:02):
But this other one is absolutely atrocious.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
No, I don't know what's going on there. That was
he got dressed in the dog. I don't like that
at all. It's like you the word like the most
contrasting three articles of clothing and just like threw them on.

Speaker 6 (11:21):
I feel like I'm cyberbo.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
That's awful. No, but it's fine. I think I'm going
to go number one suit, I'm going to go number
two iconic call, and I'm going to go third. Just
that atrocious.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Distance, Yeah, just the third.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
Now that we've we've torn him to shreds. I will say,
I really do love my dad's style. And you know,
there are days where I guess we catch him in
an off moment, but I can proudly say that that
is an off moment, like that, if I saw that
person from the bath, I would not say it was
my dad.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
But that's a rare occasion. It's a very rare serence.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
And he is very stylish.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
He's very stylish, and the suit, like how well it
fits him is like very true to his brand. And
I would say I've seen my dad. I was going
to say more in a suit than anything else, but
that's not necessarily true. But like, if he's doing anything

(12:22):
for work, even if it's not too formal of an event,
he's in a suit, which I admire.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
A lot, and I think it, Yeah, I think it is.
It's a cool like character trait of his. I like
to think I got my sense of fashion from my dad.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Oh that's nice, all right. So the last two questions
for you guys are each of you say your favorite
memory of your dad. Natasha, do you have one.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
I mean, I have a recent memory, but it's not
my favorite of all time. Like we said, we're so blessed.
We've had so many wonders.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Memory A great recent memory is perfect.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
Well, my twenty first birthday was in November and I
was at school and he came to Detroit just for
the day and had lunch with me and gave me
a beautiful handwritten card, which is my favorite gift to receive.
And I just appreciate that quality time, especially as we've

(13:25):
gotten older, is like what we value most. And he's
a busy, busy guy, so the fact that he just
made made that special time to come to me on
my birthday was very special.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
That's a great one, Ella.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Okay, so again not my favorite, but I think the
most recent one that I can recall, so the first
time we visited Chapel Hill, UNC, when I was figuring
out if that's where I wanted to go, which I
fell in love immediately. But my favorite thing that my
dad does when with my sister and with me is
at'll go to the gift shop and he will terrorize

(14:03):
that gift shop like there's no tomorrow, buying all the
UNC Dad Michigan Dad tar heels like Chapel Bill like
he was buying all the merch And he's just always
so supportive of like because he's a big college fan.
You know, he didn't get to have his own college experience,

(14:23):
so he's obsessed with college. He's so supportive and you
can tell how happy he is that we picked two
like awesome state schools that are so great with sports.
And I remember with my sister even before she got
into Michigan, even before I got into UNC. I'm telling you, like,
we must have manifested that because the amount we bought
from each gift store and it was all him, it

(14:44):
was all him saying, oh my god, this looks so
good on you. This. Can't you see yourself wearing this?
And I just think that's so fun because it gets
us really excited, even even if that's not where we
ended up, which it was, he got us feeling really
hopeful and and really optimistic. So I definitely enjoyed that.
Just a cool, a cool thing that my.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Dad has instilled in both of us, and Ella kind
of just brought it up with like buying all the merch,
like it sounds ridiculous, but he's always taught us to
visualize what we want and has instilled like the belief
in us that we can really do whatever it is
we imagine. And then you know, on the way to
school in elementary school and we were both young, he

(15:25):
would always and maybe this is like a memory that
we share that we both enjoyed, Like we both will
never forget these rides to school where he would just
like lay enjoy us into us. Yeah, maybe not enjoyed,
but remember we would be going to school, you know,
him in the front, both of us in the back,
and he'd start talking about like investment, banking and being like,

(15:48):
this is what you need to know when we're like,
you know, like five and eight, and then especially like
we learned a lot about stocks at that time and
what it means to invest. And it sounds crazy, but
he is a very good way of verbalizing things. And
I remember pairing like business with imagination and it's like

(16:09):
if you can imagine it, then it can be true,
or if you can visualize it, it can be true.
And he's very skilled when it comes to passing lessons
on and I think we'll both remember that even if
we didn't enjoy it at the moment.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
All Right, Alex, last word, do you any questions for
the girls?

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Well, I would just say I'm going to answer the
question because as they were thinking, I was thinking, and
it's impossible to have a dad girl's relationship into one memory,
but the one that I think brings it all together
for me because it kind of summarizes my playing days,
my growth as a person through my therapy, and also

(16:52):
kind of becoming more of their friends now. Slash Dad
is August twelfth, and twenty sixteenth is the day that
I retired from the New York Yankee, and after the game,
like forever, I remember the two girls coming across the
field and that like basically summarized twenty five years of
my work with my two favorite people in the world.
And that was pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Yeah, I've seen that picture. It's it's iconic, for sure.
It's it's almost as it's even more iconic than you
and that denim shirt and you're tie taking the call.
Natasha and Ella, you guys are the best. Thank you
so much. I think Alex I have this sneaking suspicion
that we're just going to like spin off shows from
our show and that our kids are just we're going
to create a podcast network. So Natasha, great break a

(17:37):
leg this summer.

Speaker 6 (17:38):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
I'm so excited for you and Ella, good luck getting
ready for school.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
Thank you, Thanks girls, I love you so much.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Bye.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
All right, Alex. So for the next segment, We've got
my boys. I've got two segments because we're going to
talk to our boys and then we're going to get
a chance to talk to our daughter. Alice. So introducing
you to Will and Henry. Will's twenty three, he's a
paralegal in New York. And then Henry is twenty one,

(18:22):
just graduated from University of Red Island and is going
to work in communications in New York City later this summer.
And these are my guys. I mean, these are my
golf buddies. These are my pride and joy, and I'm
excited for them to be here for this Father's Day edition.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Well, I love it, Jason, thank you. You can go
on mute now I'm going to talk to them. Will
and Henry. Good to see you guys again. I'll say
a couple of nice things before I ask you a
few questions.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
How about your father?

Speaker 3 (18:53):
So he's been an incredible, incredible partner to me, and
I've learned so much from him. He's obviously a great
teacher and he's very patient with me. You need patience obviously,
probably not so much with you guys, but I've also
met your grandpa and your grandma, Jason's father mom, who
I think Jason's mother may be my favorite person in
the world. When she speaks with her twang, she's amazing.

(19:13):
I just love her to pieces. And of course I
know your mother, so this is gonna be fun. So
I guess my first question starts with you have to
I see, Henry, you're rocking the NIXT shirt. What was
your favorite moment from this next run?

Speaker 7 (19:28):
I mean it has to be coming back from down
twenty nine in the garden. I mean it, it looked bleak.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
For a while.

Speaker 7 (19:35):
I almost turned off the TV, but I knew that
we were going to be able to come back and
pull it off for sure. But just the grit from
this team, Jalen Brunson especially to come back and put
the team on his back like that is just incredible.
So that's probably my favorite moment from the series.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
I will say, Alex. To Henry's credit, we have a
text chain. Everybody's got their family text chains. We have
a text chain with my two brothers, Winn and Sam
and Henry and Will and Henry was they threw out
like there was a lot of There was a lot
of chirping in that text thread. Kelly boys with a
Z and Henry. Henry was standing firm that they were

(20:14):
going to come back. So he's got the receipts.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
Love it.

Speaker 7 (20:17):
I knew after we were down twenty two in the
fourth quarter against Cleveland, there's no way we weren't gonna
be able to pull this one off too, So I
always believe, well, yeah.

Speaker 6 (20:27):
I think for me it's the easy answer. But the
only answer is that Game four comeback. I was with
a bunch of my buddies I had sorted dragged him
out to the bar, especially after the Monday loss, dragged
mount a bar on a Wednesday night. We were there
so busy. They go down, they keep going down, they
keep going down, and by halftime the whole bar leaves.
A bunch of them try to go and I'm like, guys,

(20:49):
let's just stick it out. Who knows what's going to happen.
Like these guys are clutched, they love it. They're starving.
You never know, And we waited it out and third
quarter gets going, They get a little hot, people start
coming back into the bar. People start coming back in
and then just builds into these last thirty seconds where
the whole place explodes, and then everybody just piles on

(21:12):
onder the street at midnight on a Wednesday, and like
cars are honking, fire trucks are coming by, lights blaring,
and it feels like nothing I've ever experienced before. And
I think that's when everybody knew, like, oh it's over.
They had like broken the spine of the Spurs. The
team had come together. All those videos that you see

(21:32):
in the instagram of Brunson down twenty nine bringing the
team together, just ship away. Let's just ship away. We've
been here before. So that game going on the street
after all the videos of like that is what makes
the next this season such a special team. Is them
just sticking together and never giving up. And Henry in
the chat the whole time, he knew it, never a doubt.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
So Will We're gonna stay with you here.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
How would you describe your dad's level of Knicks fandom.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
Somewhere between casual and anti. I remember Henry a couple
of weeks ago, Well, Henry a couple of weeks ago,
a couple of months ago, we were watching a game
and I forgot who was against but the Knicks ron
and they were playing, and Henry's locked into the game,
you staring read the TV. My dad's not even watching.
And then my brother forces my dad to break down.

(22:23):
Not only the Knicks not his top team, but they're
not even in the top two because of you and
the t Wolves and then Atlanta and then I guess
somewhere way down there is the Knicks. So that's what
I would rank a fandom that, Oh, I love it.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
But Alex, don't you appreciate that? Like that's leg It's
like the Hawks are my hometown team, and then you're
my partner, and I root for you, and like I
have a vested interest in your success, and so I
root for the Wolves.

Speaker 4 (22:53):
No apologies, I love it. I love it.

Speaker 7 (22:56):
I appreciate that, of course, the level of mutual space
between business partners, But come on, we've been lived in
New York for how long and we're still rooting for
the Hawks and what are we doing.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
That's where I stand on it.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
But by the.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Way, Alex Henry was mad, I mean, he was like legitimately,
like I think he walked out of the room like
he was like, I don't even I help, can you
even say that to me.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Well, go Henry, Will and then Jason best starting five
in your opinion of all time?

Speaker 7 (23:27):
I mean, I really that's such a tough question. I'll
go to defer to my dad on this one and
then come back to me.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
All right, well you take it all right?

Speaker 6 (23:36):
See, I think I gotta go with the game changer,
best shooter of all time, Curry at my one, at
my two. I'm trying to think. I do like his
chemistry with Clay. He's sort of fallen off, but I
do like the two of them together. But honestly, I
want maybe not a real shooting guard, but I like

(23:57):
the two of them play style. I'm going Kyrie at two. Three,
I'm gonna go Kobe. Four, i'm gonna go Lebron. And
five I'm taking Kareem. That would be my Those are
my five.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
Goodwin Will, Henry, you want to jump.

Speaker 7 (24:18):
Back in, Yeah, I think I'm ready to go. I'd
say my top five. I'm gonna go Brunson. Uh, gotta
have Lebron in there. I love Kevin Durant. That's just
a silkie shooter if I've ever seen one. I think
Shaquille O'Neal. This isn't my top five all time. These
are just players I love to watch. But I'm gonna

(24:39):
put Shaquil o'neial just for entertainment factor.

Speaker 6 (24:41):
And then my five.

Speaker 7 (24:43):
I guess, well, we gotta have MJ in there. If
we're talking top fives, we have to.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
All right, do I have to do mine?

Speaker 4 (24:50):
This is hard?

Speaker 2 (24:51):
Okay? So myke I mean, I'm gonna go with basically
my five favorite players of all time, and I'm gonna
say Magic and Jay Dominique shout out Atlanta. I'm just
doing that purely to troll Henry and Will. I love Steph.
And then the fifth. I'm definitely playing to the audience here,

(25:15):
to this audience of three gotta go and he's the future.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
Oh yeah, I love that. I love that. I love that.
All right.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
So now, if the three of you were the three
starters for the New York Knicks, I'm gonna start with
will a position would you play? And two who would
be the other four and five to fill in this
Kelly offstar team.

Speaker 6 (25:38):
Ooh, that's a good question. As much as I wish
I was Brunson, I think I see myself more as
a as a heart archetype. Maybe not the height, but
that sort of energy is what I really try to
go for, that sort of defense, like do anything for
the team, dive and the floor, all that kind of stuff.

(26:00):
Myself is served like a Josh Hart archetype character. If
I had to, I.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
Love that and Alex. That actually totally tracks because Will
played college lacrosse, as you probably know, and he was
ferocious on defense. He was a defensive midfielder and he
could get a little scrappy and I think at his
first ever college game he like clocked somebody who had
like gone up against one of his boys. And he's

(26:28):
definitely got some. He's got some. Josh harden him. Those
Nova knicks. As much as it pains me to say
as a Georgetown person, uh those Nova knicks, There's there's
a lot to love. I mean, Henry's wearing his brunts
and jersey. Though.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
All right, Henry, what's yours? What kind of player would
you be? What position? And then give me who would
be your four and five.

Speaker 7 (26:47):
I'm probably not starting, if I'm being honest, I'm probably
coming in off the bench when Energyano, Yeah, iron I
would love to be an Alvarado Shannon Deuce McBride, kind
of guy six man off the bench and hit some
huge threes towards the end of the game. And as
for players to finish our four and five, we're probably

(27:07):
gonna need a Cat and a Mitch just because we
don't have a lot of height in the Kelly family,
so that could probably help us out on the post
a little bit, but we can facilitate down to them, Okay, Jason.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
God, I mean, listen, I'd love to say I'm og
I love I mean, just because I think that's going
to go down as one of the most iconic plays
in the history. I love the finish, I love sticking
with it. I would definitely want to have I love Cat,
you know, and I know Alex. You know him well

(27:41):
from the Minnesota days. I just think he was such
an incredible glue guy for this team, and I think
his his willingness to like show emotion and authenticity is
just really really amazing. And I love Alvarado, I mean
in part because he lands on our boss's lap, Mike
Bloomberg's lap during the game, which was one of the

(28:04):
one of the great memes of the entire series. So
I'd love that five.

Speaker 7 (28:09):
I think I texted you about Alvarado landing on Mike
Bloomberg's laugh. Yes, and you gave a very response, very
funny response to that text.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Yes, yes, exactly.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
All right, So I'm gonna start with you, Henry, with
your dad, what is the like your favorite part about
watching sports with your father.

Speaker 7 (28:28):
I just think he loves sports so much, but he's
emotionally invested in just the right amount and like he's
never getten too high or too low about sports, which
I think is something that I've really taken from him.
And then also just picking up on all like the
little niche behind the scenes stuff that he's kind of
learned about that just gives it it's a really cool

(28:49):
angle to watch the watch any sport from really, So
that's what I appreciate about watching sports with him.

Speaker 6 (28:55):
Well, I think for me, it's just how much sports
has become a part of our life. Watching sports, talking
about sports, thinking about sports. It's just like all consuming
in our family, and that shown it just that the
TV is always on watching sports, and whether that is
tennis or golf, or the w or the NBA or

(29:16):
college football or professional football every night week. My mom's
always complaining about every night of the week there's some
sports on that we're watching and dissecting and talking about
college and how college feeds into the pros somehow the
pros is being back into college basketball somehow and stuff
like that. I think, how exactly what Henry's saying, like,
there's this sort of deeper level that my dad's insilled

(29:39):
in us that like, sports is fun to watch, but
it's also like academically and intellectually stimulating to think about
and break down. And we've just had as a family
from such a young age.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
And real quick Henry, I mean, well, tell me one
quick line that your mom says shows her frustration with
Jason with having too much sports on it's Tuesday.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
How is there more sports.

Speaker 4 (30:05):
That's amazing?

Speaker 6 (30:06):
Henry?

Speaker 4 (30:06):
Do you have one for mom?

Speaker 7 (30:10):
I mean, it's just it's sometimes it's Can we at
least just mute the game before before dinner? Please?

Speaker 4 (30:19):
I love it? I love it. Well, let me just
say you this, Henry.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
I got one more for you, for you, both of you,
But you haven't learned from your father as far as
being balanced. You're rocking the brunts and jersey, you're speaking
and your face gets red with passion about the Knicks.
That doesn't really describe what your dad even keel. You're
very much passionate and invested all in with the Knicks,
so I love it.

Speaker 7 (30:42):
I guess the Knicks is a little different everything else.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
I try to stay a little even kill.

Speaker 7 (30:46):
I'm a Jets fan, so you can never really get
too high. You can get pretty low with them, but uh,
with the Knicks, I'll get red faced if it means
we win a championship. So I'm happy to be this
excited about it.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
You know, one more in your dad before we go
to Alice. What's the thing you admire most about your dad.

Speaker 6 (31:06):
I think what I admire most about my dad is
this hunger to learn and to learn from people. I've
never met somebody or experienced anything with him that he's
not learning from, and whether that is learning from other
dads about lacrosse when I was younger and he was
really trying to get into it, or when we're on
the golf course and somebody hits a nice drive us

(31:29):
and especially him trying to figure out, wait, so how
to go straight? Mine are always going to the right,
And just that sort of curiosity is what's a has
been so inspiring.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Wow, that was great. That was really savage.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
But they will you're also a comedian. Go ahead, Henry,
give us.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
Your I guess, just to piggyback on will of it.
I think my dad has always been big on us
about just like trying new things, whether result it's going
to be good or bad. And that's been evident in
getting a podcast with one of the greatest Yankees of
all time and doing different stuff like this, or whether
it's going on different business ventures or are starting to

(32:06):
get really into golf. It's always just being about like
trying new things. You're either gonna be good to your bad.
You're gonna have fun, and you're gonna learn from it.
And I just really admire that about him, and I
appreciate him passing that onto us and onto Alice.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
And before I give you the final word, Jason, I
can echo what and piggyback off what will and Henry said,
your father has been an incredible partner. What I admire
most about him is he's one of the most positive
people that you ever want to meet. It doesn't matter
if you're you know, the president of the company, the CEO,
or you're like my mother growing up as a blue

(32:40):
collar worker who served tables at night and had two jobs.
Treats everyone the same, always positive, and when you leave
him and his presence, whether it's dinner or conversation or
a meeting like this, you always feel better energizing like younger,
which is pretty awesome.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
So cool, Stull, you guys, you guys are all all
very very nice, but no, this has been really fun. Listen,
these are these are my guys, and it's been unbelievable
to watch them grow up into men. And you know, Alex,
as you said, it's it's really a remarkable thing when
your kids grow into being adults and you can establish

(33:17):
these new relationships with them and whether it's talking about sports,
whether it's out on the golf course, whether it's taking trips, dinners, whatever,
and you know, it's amazing to watch them launch into
their new worlds. You know, both graduate from college and
you know that's a huge point of pride for for Jen,
their mom and myself. And so this was really fun.

(33:40):
I'm glad to see you guys.

Speaker 7 (33:41):
Thank you guys, well, thank you for having us in.
First of all, early happy Father's Day to both you guys.
I guess by the time this comes out, just Happy
Father's Day.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
Thank you guys, Thank you, thanks guys.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
All right, Alex, So this you know you had, Mariano
Rivera is the closer. Today we have Alice Margaret Kelly
as our closer, rounding out our special Father's Day episode.
So Alice, how are you doing good? You had a
nice day at school? And are you wearing a Knick
shirt right now?

Speaker 8 (34:27):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Are you a huge Knicks fan? Yeah? Yeah? Tell us
about watching the Knicks. Why were you excited about the Knicks?

Speaker 8 (34:36):
Because I wanted up to win and all show. I
wanted to wear this shirt that me and my mom made.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Oh yeah, what does it say?

Speaker 8 (34:48):
On the right?

Speaker 2 (34:50):
Here is this say go New York Go, New York Go.
I love it? I love it? And do you like to?
I think you learned all that chants in the songs,
didn't you?

Speaker 8 (35:03):
Yeah? I think?

Speaker 6 (35:03):
What?

Speaker 2 (35:04):
What's your favorite one? O?

Speaker 8 (35:06):
Tick gunna gunnia?

Speaker 2 (35:09):
And who's your favorite player?

Speaker 8 (35:11):
Jarends it?

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Yeah? Do you do you ever chant his name?

Speaker 7 (35:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:17):
How do you? How does that go? Again? I forget
jaymen flds. It's all right, So let's talk about you
and sports. What is your favorite sport? To play basketball. Yeah?

Speaker 8 (35:33):
Why because usually after school I play basketball near my house.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
Yeah. Who do you play with other kids?

Speaker 6 (35:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:46):
What do you guys play? Do you just like dribble
around or do you play games?

Speaker 8 (35:50):
Sometimes we like dribble and shoot. Sometimes we play knockout,
sometimes we play around the world, and sometimes we play
a horse.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
Okay, do you play any other sports?

Speaker 8 (36:06):
Lacrosshofball?

Speaker 2 (36:10):
Why do you like lacrosse?

Speaker 8 (36:11):
Because my mom is a coach.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
Oh yeah, she a good coach.

Speaker 8 (36:17):
Yeah. Yeah, and.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
I remember last year you played a decent amount of baseball.
Tell me about that.

Speaker 8 (36:28):
Well, I hit I hit a home run a couple
of times. I hit one kind of the field.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Really do you know that Alex hit six hundred and
ninety six home runs? Can you believe that?

Speaker 7 (36:44):
What?

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Yeah, that's true. He played He played baseball for his job.
Did you know that? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (36:54):
Yeah, but not on in one season, not only in
one season. It was over like almost twenty five years
a long time, Alice.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Wow, yeah, yeah, do you have any questions for me
or for Alex?

Speaker 8 (37:08):
Alice, there's Alex like Pokemon.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
Ooh, that's a great question. Yeah, I like Pokemon. It's
kind of cool.

Speaker 8 (37:22):
I have some Pokemons. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
How many?

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Huh?

Speaker 8 (37:27):
They like fifteen or twenty.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
Oh wow, it's a nice collection. I'd like to see
him one day. That'd be awesome.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Alice, do you have any questions for us? Since this
is Father's Day? Do you have any questions for Alex
about his daughters?

Speaker 8 (37:41):
How old are they?

Speaker 4 (37:43):
So my daughters, we just spoke to them.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
My oldest daughter, Natasha's twenty one and she's a senior
at Michigan University of Michigan, Go blue. And then my
little one is eighteen and she's a freshman at the
University of North Carolin.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
Lineup, go different Blue.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
I've got We are very young, So you thought they'd
be a little younger. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I had them
when I was really young. They're they're grown up, sort
of like your brothers, except.

Speaker 8 (38:17):
That Henry is almost twenty two and twenty three.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
Yeah. Yeah. What have you learned about sports from your brothers?

Speaker 8 (38:29):
Well, sometimes Henry plays basketball with me, and he teachers
and moves mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
Oh, Alice, we have not talked about our new favorite sport,
which Alex also plays, golf. Tell Alex about playing golf,
and I.

Speaker 8 (38:49):
Usually like playing at the golf course.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
With my dad and.

Speaker 8 (38:55):
My brothers.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
And do you like it?

Speaker 2 (39:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (39:00):
I even have my own golf bag and golf glove.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Wow, that's very cool.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Yeah, Alice is really getting into golf. And also, what's
one of your favorite things to do when we go
to the golf course? Drive the cart? Right? Yeah? Yeah,
pretty good at that.

Speaker 8 (39:18):
You're pretty very good at driving.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Yeah, yeah, Alex, any questions for Alice?

Speaker 7 (39:25):
I do?

Speaker 3 (39:26):
I have a couple, so I would say Alice, by
the way, you've answered these questions beautifully.

Speaker 4 (39:31):
You're doing great. I love your T shirt and I
really like your headphones. I wish we had pink ones
like that.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
My question is what is a few of the favorite
things about your father that you enjoy the most?

Speaker 8 (39:47):
Sometimes he plays with me.

Speaker 6 (39:52):
And that.

Speaker 8 (39:54):
Sometimes he he with me while I'm like watching TV
on my movie nights.

Speaker 4 (40:06):
Oh, and do you think he's funny? Yeah, he's funny.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
Okay, I would agree with that. And then what is
like one or two things you love to do most
with your dad?

Speaker 8 (40:18):
Got in a golf course?

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Oh yeah, I know. That's our new thing, isn't it. Alice?
Do you have any more questions for me or for Alex? Yep, okay.

Speaker 8 (40:31):
At my school, we had a party because the next one,
and we had donuts and cookies.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
You had donuts and cookies to celebrate the next Yeah. Wow.
