probably okay, that was it was the it was picked
up the mic. Yeah, it was the mic one. Uh,
the micah on the larger camera anyway. But yeah, so
a lot to get to a ton, to get a
ton ton ton to get into between the breaking uh
(02:16):
breaking news out in Erie this weekend. Uh, Jackson Joe
throwing ah, you know, Jackson Joe just basically going to
the Center Mount and go, you know, I'm gonna dominate.
And uh there was Hope the Hope, Hope floats and.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Eerie Sandy Bullock.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Sandra Bullock jokes, No, it was eerie. Was a good time. Hey.
By the way, there's merch. Look I got the cap now,
so there's not and see I'm not Look you guys
know I'm a hat nob right, Yeah, we're a fitted
hats for my own brand. We can't get a fitted
hat just yet, so I finally bowed and got a
snaff cap. It's good quality. You can buy a shirt
(02:52):
and go to Red Bubble and find our stuff. So,
but where to start, gentlemen, Let's start with the Tigers
road trip to the West Coast seven and two road trip,
and that's their seventh street road series victory, sets a
franchise record. Crazy crazy, I.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Mean, I guess it makes sense because in the sense,
in the same sense that nothing this season makes any
sense at all, Like they were the worst road team
in baseball, and now they're the best road treatment baseball forever.
We've had a terrible time on the West Coast and
now they go out there and punch everyone in the
face after trading school and nice. You know, that just
seems to be the way this season is going. Cats
(03:33):
and dogs living together mass hysteria.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, I mean, Roger, you had the great stat about them.
This is the first time they've ever swept the A's
in a season series, which is hard to believe.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Yeah, but yeah, and the young kids.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Have all come up and they're just balling, they're just
having fun, and the lineup suddenly feels so deep though.
Would you have Valencia and you have Clark, and you
have Leo the bench, and you have mckinstree hitting, and
bias is Baiaz Like he's how like your eight hitter
and he could blow the game up and with one
swing at any time. This, I mean, they're doing this
(04:11):
with Briley Green slumping pretty hard. But Torque has picked
up the slack a little bit cool, Keith has picked
up the slack. It's just a fun team to watch.
And that's not even mentioning the pitching, which has been excellent.
So in the bullpen suddenly got Desa the other day,
like six straight strikeouts to end the game.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
How's that going?
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yep, but not from not necessarily from you know, one
guy at least that you that you'd expect. I was
looking for everybody's stats. I mean yeah, I mean just
all of a sudden, you know, like Drew Summers the
past two months has been great. Tyler Holton has been
great for two months now and has locked in ken
Lee Jansen. I don't think it allowed to run since
late June at this point, you know, I mean, Kyle
Finnegan still looks like I don't understand how this era
(04:52):
is where it is. But uh, because the peripherals are terrible,
but it's working. Wagg's back is kind of like contributing
here and there. The funny problem for the Tigers right
now is that they have a lot of dudes that
might come back, and they don't necessarily want to rock
the boat right now. Yeah, you don't want to mess
with success. I mean, obviously James Outman, you know, is expendable,
(05:14):
and you know he could go if Feeling or Carpenter
come back or Wenzel Perez, but yeah, it's it's a
it's a hilarious set of problems to have. They sold,
they restock the pitching, and now the next couple of
years look a lot brighter as a result of that.
But this team shouldn't be doing as well, but it is.
And yeah, and now you don't want some of the
(05:36):
guys that you know, you were worried about, you know,
missing to come back because everything's clicking so well right now.
It's very but I mean, honestly, since August of twenty
twenty four, like nothing has made sense with this team, and.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
You know, like all those times this year we're like, oh,
it's just too big of a hole and they haven't
done this, and you know, to get back in it,
they have to play baseball. At this percentage, they're there.
They've done everything that you could have asked for. Cleveland
has fallen back. Uh and and they got they got
what six games against Cleveland in the White Sox this week.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Ye, the biggest, biggest two series of the season. Now,
you know, all of a sudden, we're like right in
the thick of things and both of them are coming
to town.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Yeah, so it's it's, yeah, they've done an incredible job
of keeping the thing afloat. That's just where you've got
to give credit to Hinch and the coaches and.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
You know whatever the players on the team for for
not I mean the professionals.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
But it's understandable when guys kind of can get down
if they you lose in one way, you lose Jake
Rogers at least Trek Scooba at least Casey Mayes, Like
these are the three longest tender guys on the big
league club, and yeah, every else is just like, all right,
well we'll just keep playing.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah, And there's this nice combo of like having you know,
having the energy of Clark and Valencia wearing his heart
on his sleeve and masching tators and hitting great. And
then on the other hand, you got Hobby and Glabor
back now as sort of the veteran presences who kind of,
you know, can kind of teach these guys and mold
things a little bit. And the whole balance has just
been Yeah, it's just been kind of crazy to watch,
(07:07):
you know. I mean, I still look at the bullpen
with with horror and fear, but uh, at the same time,
like they're kind of a juggernaut of a positional group
now and it's uh, kind of kind of really confusing it.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yeah, and you know it's Roy Milton has been so
good and it's kind of unbelievably good in a way
that I mean, like there's no way this can continue
like this good, right, like right spectacular, Like he's I
don't think he's gonna break like the oral Hershire who
shows a record of scoreless innings or whatever. I actually
gave up an unearned run. But and we've seen Montero
(07:45):
has had a couple of bumps. But uh, and and
you know, who knows how much to trust Drew Anderson
the starter, but Flirty should be back relatively soon.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Actually he hasn't started a rehab, so who knows what's
going on there, But yeah, which starts was pretty encouraging.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah, yeah, seemingly, you know, at least, you know, within
a couple of weeks, Flairty, you know, should be back.
And then we'll see if River Ryan can get back,
and they're gonna have a lot of interesting fun problems
if if all that comes together. I mean, I think
all season long we were all kind of pointing to
job like, you know, I mean, that's something that might
work out for them. You know, it'll probably take him
some time to kind of, you know, piece things together. No,
(08:20):
just like Jackson Joe and I'm back, what's up up, Pump?
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah, I did like that. Yeah, I mean he was
he's looking like thick, like a muscle fan and.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Uh yeah, he got on this Scobel's training program something one.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Hundred and you know, he's always had this incredible arm
and it was just a matter of trying to get
it all to work together.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
And we'll see. I'm sure there'll be ups and downs with.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Him, but they made that small change right of moving
him on the mound a little bit yeah, and maybe
the arm angles slightly and or stride direction. And it's
the most whiffs he's ever had in his fastball in
the big leagues. And you know, it's obviously not a
huge sample. I think was five. Yeah, but if you
can get whisped with this fastball, then that's gonna that's
gonna make the rest of the file explode because the
secondary stuff is bonker still.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
So yeah, yeah, yeah, And the problem with him has
always been like, you know, Okay, he throws this hard,
but he doesn't get that many whiffs on the fastball.
The shape is a little bit not it doesn't play
the way the shape should play necessarily even that even
according to the numbers. But they've managed to kind of
tune that up a little bit. And yeah, he's always
you know, he's always had the secondary stuff. He can
spin the heck out of the baseball. The split change
(09:23):
is nasty. I mean, that is a that is a
really nasty pitch for him. And yeah, you know, starting
to mix. You know, the thing I thought last year
that that kind of you know, helped him get to
the big leagues and have some success early when he
wasn't getting that many whiffs, was starting to mix the
sinker in more and that seems to be a tigerish thing,
is that, you know, like if you have a bad
bastball or you have problems with your fastball, we'll just
have you throw like three different types of fastball and
(09:45):
we'll make it work. You know, it's working for Melton
Amp and the cutter up into the low nineties now,
and yeah it might work for job as well. But yeah,
it's just these things like coming up well when you
you know, you know that there's a possibility that Joe
come back and do well, but you can't just tell
yourself itself everything's just going to come up ass. But
it kind of is right now, and it's yeah, it's awkward,
(10:07):
especially after everything, you know, I mean, things could not
have gone worse in May. I mean it was one
of the worst months in franchise history. And we all said, hey,
they've got to play at least, you know, they've got
to win sixty percent of their games and play six
hundred ball the rest of the way. Well, and that
might not be enough. They may still end up selling anyway.
I think we I think we all kind of like
nailed this that that's kind of how it's how it's been.
They couldn't quite get there, you know, fast enough to
(10:30):
avert trading off schoobl and Miyes. But in the long term,
we're going to be happy that they did and and
they haven't haven't missed a step, and in fact, they
seem inspired and playing like, you know, we have nothing
to lose baseball. We'll see what happens if they actually
take the lead in the division over the next week
or two. But then you suddenly have some expectations again.
(10:50):
But I also think there's an interesting point here where
we there's so many guys this year that it felt
like they should just get rid of and cut and
the Tigers are stubborn and they don't do things. And
obviously it didn't work out with Jamai Jones, but with
a lot of other guys they started to come around.
And and here we are with with some of those
players like McKinstry, who maybe was just battling the injuries
early this season, and some of the relievers like Kenley
(11:14):
Tyler Holton. You know, kind of you just give them
enough leash and time to kind of work on it,
and they've figured it out. You know. I do have
like a full blue plaid going today.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yeah, Yeah, it's funny. Jones Is turned it up for
the Red Sox and up and hitting wherever it went.
So it's baseball is a very funny game.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
The Red Sox are a really interesting study in this
because you know, I had them, you know, win in
the East, and you know, then they had the Raphaele
Dovers crap to start the year, Eric Crochet gets hurt.
Things shouldn't be working out for them, and then they
just went absolutely nuts to both these teams have just
kind of come out of you know, come out of nowhere.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Yeah, as far as.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
That, the thing that gets me now is is kind
of craziest is there's a chance not only that the
Tigers can take the division, they might get a bye
in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
I mean, like the Astros don't have a terribly good record.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
So if you if you're like, you know, Tampa looks
like they're gonna run away with the East, but maybe
Boston can catch them. But yeah, you're gonna end up
with one of the two best records for a division
winner if you can win the division. Chicago handled business
against Cleveland, so you gotta take them out. But it's
just kind of crazy to think this is even possible
right now with the six weeks left.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Yeah, I mean even though like one of the things
that sort of talk about Ley Green earlier, the biggest
kind of thing that strucks me as odd is that
his off speed last year was in offs be a
two sixty one clip this year has won seventy nine
and he doesn't have as far as like just basically
with whyse it's increased by two percent, which is doesn't
(12:49):
sound like a lot, but teams are taking advantage of it.
And but he's didn't break the ball better, breaking balls
better at two ninety eight. So it's like damage you do,
damage you don't. But as far as like somebody mentioned
here is Jorge Mateo versus Zach McKinstry. Did you see
that throw them mcenttry made the other day in San Francisco.
(13:10):
That was a perfect throw, Like it was like Tommy Umansky's.
He didn't need to relay, you know, he was like, no,
screw Tommyumansky. And when I learned from him and his
tapes for Fred McGriff, I'm just gonna throw it and
throw his dime right down the plate. And McKinstry has
been coming up clutches of late too. He's been hitting better,
and he's been doing those things that have been helping
(13:30):
the little things defensively bringing that utility of value sometimes. Yeah, look,
he was pretty close to being cut to early July too.
But the biggest thing that I've been seeing too is
Cold Keith. Cold Keith has been hidden more consistently. He
hasn't like he's been drawing better at bats walking when
they need him to, and it's just kind of like,
(13:52):
I know that Keith. We've talked about his power too,
and at the same time, he's been a steady fore
and I don't think he did enough credit for that,
at least in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Yeah, the timing was pretty crucial because you know, he
he kind of got hot right when Riley started to
cool down, and that's given him, you know, that extra
bat in there. And yeah, I mean it's all you know.
I mean, we've been saying this for years, like it's
hard to fully, you know, believe that cold Keith has
arrived until the dingers start flying, because we know he's
got that in him, and he has been has been
relatively snake bitten on deep fly balls this year. Maybe
(14:26):
but but yeah, he just, you know, he got hot
like he kind of always does where where he starts
to remind you of like Nick Castianos or something like,
I don't know what to do with this guy as
a fielder, but you know when he's on, like he's
just spraying line drives and getting hits everywhere, you know,
for months at a time and you just have to
ride it. But there's not really a sign yet either
(14:47):
that he's like figured it all out and is leveling
up into an everyday player. But he came through when
they needed him to and has sorted it out. Riley,
you know, Riley has just been in this weird like
I'm making all these adjustments, you know, a year after year,
like the last couple of years, like trying different things.
He came into this season trying to chase less and
he was doing it, but he wasn't hitting as many
home runs and everybody got on that, and then you know,
(15:08):
he started hitting a lot more home runs in June
and now he feels like he's you know, kind of
lost in limbo again, Whereas Colt Keith keeps, you know,
just experimenting with different light kicks and every once in
a while, something clicks for him for a while and
he goes nuts.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
But I think one other thing Riley Green has done
this year is he's hit lefties, which is something he
did in the minors, I believe, but it was an
issue last year. And I'm looking right now, how's he
doing against lefties?
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Three forty six? Three ohps.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
But you know, if you're putting the ball in play
against lefties, that's that's good. And that's another thing about
mckistry is he is he has cut his strikeout right
by like six percent this year. I think I want
to say Dobrowski was or not Dobrowski chiefs Dan Dickerson,
I was thinking of a different DD. He was talking
about how the Tigers are last in Chase and like,
(15:57):
I guess, you know, lowest Chase rate. H they just
have really kind of we made the team on the
fly as this pesky group of battlers out there. You know,
it's kind of typified but McGonagall, but we've seen other
guys put up long battles and have you even been
impressed by like, you know, Valencia is this big slugger
and he'll swing and miss, but he'll he'll battle and
(16:20):
if you make a mistake, he's gonna crush it. So
it's it's a lot of fun right now. We'll see
what happens down the road. I think it's it's fun
to ride McKinstry. What he's hitting like this, he's basically
ben Zoe brist So that's good. And yeah, Keith has
I think like a one sixty WRC plus since July first.
So he's picking up a slack and I.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Never keep up and time how you lead, you know,
it seems like he's going to kind of go into
a funk or he's chasing, or he gets down early.
And in a bat he still seems to manage to
put the bat on the ball, which was not the
way it was for him in Toledo. So yeah, I
mean that's that's another impressible one, especially because he's not
playing that much, you know, and he's still been able
to contribute.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
The tontively col Keith. Here's the thing everybody's giving crap
about his defensive value last year is the Minas Street
This year is one in terms of like stat cast, fielding,
run value. He's not bad of a defender, I know,
I don't know he has at first at first base.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
He is terrible, but he seems.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
To have a knack for when he makes his mistakes,
they're at like points where everybody's like catch it. It's
really He made a really nice pick on a sharp
line drive yesterday, like right in the dirt, picked it
and got the out.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
But you know, he bobbled the ball coming in.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
I didn't even know what play he could have made there.
He wasn't getting the guy at home.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Yeah, it was a total do or die play. I mean, yeah,
where you have to You can't just like grab it
and then cock the throw. You kind of have to
grab it into the you know, into your throw. I mean,
it's just a tough play. He's not that guy. He's
not Manny Machado.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Yeah. So who, by the way, has like war this
year something like that.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
So there's a lot of weird ones like that out
there this year. Yeah, the guy fell off as far.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
As the Lencia goes defensively, that's who he is. But
we've been telling you that since if you listen to
the podcast long enough and what have you. Valencia has
his shortcomings, which is why I was surprised he got
the call up. When he did then then or I'm sorry,
I'm more shocked when they let call Jake Rogers because
you're you're right, yeah, yeah, you know twenty two So
(18:17):
I'm drinking too Burners Jake. But like I was surprised
he dropped Jake Rogers because of the issues that Valencia has.
It's not that he's terrible defensively, Yeah, he can frame,
you can throw a decent ball, and sometimes he has
those lapses. That's why you don't seem at first defensively
at first base he's not good. Will to answer your question, no,
(18:38):
it defensively during the spring training there was some lapses
there for that.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
So yeah, so I think what they've always they've always
liked Valencia particularly. I Thinkkenny Graham was the guy who's
his champion for a long time, and and I think
they believe in his work ethic. You know, a guy
who's stayed with it and he's you know, taking this
long and stuck with it and got the big leagues
that like the bat, and they think he's the sort
of guy who will do whatever he can to get
(19:04):
as good as he can behind the plate, and you know, honestly,
with as good as Dingler is you know, you want
him behind the plate as much as possible. Obviously he's
such a good hitter that you want to give him
days off.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
But I think I think Valencia can make it.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
As you know, you get two different kinds of backup catchers, right,
you get the Jake Rodgers who's you're gonna believe in
his defense, and he might get Joe Baum and you
get an offensive backup catcher who may hurt you on
defense a little bit, but the bat is going to
help and he can also come off the bench.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
They may fold in a little bit first base, but
I think we may see. Well we'll get into this
with Persanna later, but there's they could have an interesting
kind of triumvirate playing first catcher d H next year.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Yeah. No, I mean the thing about it is that
there are some teams that wouldn't mind having Valencia catch,
you know, more often, but the Tigers are really keen
on having you know, good defensive catching. They teach it well,
and you know that there's a reason Jake Rogers has
been here as long as he has, and so yeah,
I'm surprised that they're willing to kind of ride with them. Obviously,
it's gonna be all dangler catching in the postseason if
(20:09):
they get there. But yeah, and then we'll just see
what they do next year. It still seems like they
would go get themselves, you know, kind of a high
end defender of some sort to kind of pair with them,
and then yeah, you know, maybe you mix in Valencia
and Bersania at first. I don't know. Balencia and Keith
never really got enough chance to play first either. That's
the other thing, Like there's always been talk about him
(20:30):
playing first, but it's always just kind of been a
part time thing. All Right, I'm gonna take this off.
Some people don't have to. Henry Coffin and the water.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
I think Valencia is is essentially he's kind of like
Wilson Wilson Ramos, right, Yeah, with the Tigers had a
couple years ago and they you know, you could hit,
and they aventually get rid of him because he was
not a good defender. But uh, if he's not your
main catcher, I think you can live with it. We'll see,
We'll see what happens with does Bressanno. I think they're
gonna have him continue to play a catcher as much
(21:00):
as we all want, like just just put them at first.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Uh, there's value in being able to catch, being able to.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Put on the gear, and particularly if you're a left
handed catcher, that's pretty sweet a left handed hitting Obviously
don't let left he play catcher for some reason.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
But can we spend the next thirty minutes talk about
job Jim Jip, Yes we can. We will do that
here in a second. I want to give years talking
about job to change up.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
We have mentioned it already at least ye.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
A shout out to Jason Back who gave us the
credit for the Ristinnaan News yesterday MLB dot Com, which
was some controversy because what Chris.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
So we didn't break that there was doctor jennertt Again,
we don't know who doctor Jennert is other than he
keeps getting these things correct before they happen, including Jake
Rogers and v Lindsay getting called up and multiple call ups. Now,
so connect it in some way. But you you went
and confirmed it through various channels and then you tweeted
(21:59):
about it.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Yeah, because I mean he I saw him. He didn't
start the game, and I didn't see him in the dugout.
So and I didn't see him at all in the
like so Erie. The when you go to the Erie,
Sarah Field opens up and they have like the training
facility and that's how you get back to the the Tream,
you know, like the clubhouse and all that stuff. And
(22:22):
I didn't see him back there either, So I was like, ah,
but I didn't think anything of it outside of just
maybe I don't know, like he was somewhere else. It's
Scott Harris's burner coun probably be, but why is he
Why is he always feeding certain fan accounts? That doesn't
make any sense. But I mean, but other than that,
it was and also Sing had a really like he
(22:42):
was he was horned spe straight game Saturday. He had
a couple of long flyouts before.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
It was out.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
But overall, look, he was ready to Like I thought
the Hikers would keep him down in Erie just so
they could have him for the postseason. But then the
others moves made sense. Willie Hayden's gonna go to Erie.
H Roberto compos is back in Erie, Lucas Alsol's going
to Erie, so they get so much of reinforcements.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Andrew Andrew Sears to Toledo, Yeah, and maybe it had
to do with you know, I mean they signed Carlos
Perez and you know, he went nuts hitting for a
couple of days and then he got hurt. And then
they signed two of the Zebi Zabala. Yeah, and he
got hurt, so they they kind of needed to catch her.
Maybe it was just like it all all kind of
worked out timing wise. But you know, I mean, Bersanio
(23:33):
missed half the season and you know, missed half of
twenty twenty four with the knee thing. This is his
third full season of minor league ball and he's only
played about two seasons and he's already kind of conquered
Double A. And I think they just saw like, all right,
he's he's red hot, he's handling these you know, he's
handling these guys no problem, He's one hundred percent, and
(23:53):
they went for it.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Yeah, and that's exactly what fe's in what we've talked
about Ryan Garko and Scott Harris. Before you master the level,
you're you're they look for guys to master the.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Level, yes, because they don't want you to not be challenged.
They don't want you to be like, oh, I'm chilling
and just you know, wrecking shop here, you know, full time,
you know they want them. Okay, you've got this. You
know it's time to move up and test yourself. I mean,
it was kind of the same with Clark, right, you know,
it's not like he was having a bad year. He
was doing a lot of things. Well, you could see
improvements in his in his defense, and you know, he
(24:26):
was handling things at the plate. He just wasn't hitting
for much power. And then as soon as he started
driving the ball a little bit more and handling lefties
and kind of doing all those little things, you know,
for just like a couple of weeks span, it was like,
all right, he's ready.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Yeah, and this is a matter of time too where
you're gonna see Tyrone Loronzo to give some more back
reps a catcher too, and they got Ben Lee as
down there as well. But yeah, let's talk about jack
all right, Well, you know what we'll do with the
We'll talk to Jackson Joe here. So I'm pulling up
I'm trying some clips ready for Jackson Joe. Okay, and
also we have to worry about copyright too, so but
(25:00):
same time, at this point, screw it. But the no
Jackson job. Let's uh, let's let's talk about Jackson Job
coming back. And yeah, here looking a little thick, as
Chris would say, or anybody would say, it looks a
little thicker. This is yeah one hundred, like yeah, he
was he was born down the minors. Like, by the way,
(25:22):
I love that he got this jerseys tilt are pretty sweet.
It was giants jerseys and Spanish.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the lot is a good one, that
one in the little serpientes.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Thosepentes are really good too. They have like oh yeah, yeah,
let's you know, I want to slow this down if
I'm I figure out what to slow this out.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
I mean, that's that's pretty sick. That that's a lot
like it's it's a different type, but it kind of
moves like Schooble's change up that way, like it starts
to fall, but then it also just goes. We a
lot of horizontal movement. Magic mags out there, run him
into stuff. Yeah you do need you do you need
(26:10):
to smoke. We're all gonna need to go get some
fresh air after this. We're a little over overheated. This
is sexy.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Yeah, And joke did exactly what was supposed to do,
which is change eye levels a lot, and that was
something he was like I wanted him to able to
go high and go low with the fastball and then
change up exactly was able to do and get those
swings and missus that he needed. And here's a sweet
double play here by Taurres.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
He's always had good balance too, It's his mechanics have
always been good. But he just looks so stable and yeah,
I mean maybe it is just having the absolute tree
trunk legs now got on the got on the Schooble
deadlifting program or whatever happened. Yeah, there was a time
when friends and countrymen that Tark Scuba was also a
rather skinny, skinny twenty one year old lad who was
(26:52):
throwing hard.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, but people call it, people call him fat. Cracks
me up too, Like, guys, there's a thing called muscle.
You can get muscle and not be fat.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Yeah, he's just thick in the best way. Yeah, he's
got that resting bitch face, which I always I always
enjoy it, Like like Jackson just always looks like he's
annoyed and everybody, and you know, like like about to
pitch a fit in one way or the other and
just never does.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
This is This is from twenty twenty two when we
were watching the three pitch strike out of Pete grow Armstrong.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Oh yeah, who's who's your Probably probably in an MVP,
we'll see if he peats show. But sho.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
This is right when his change up was coming into existence.
I think he gets a swing and missing one of them.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Look at Job's like, Joe's like, get your ass back
in there, let's go.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Yeah, you got.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
I think we talked about it was like fastball, breaking ball,
change up. Well, there's a change up, I think, and
then I come back with a breaking ball. It was
just kind of fun to see.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
These two young players four years because I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
The neck is pretty thick to you. I don't know
if it's quite Tyler Holton or Andy Dirk's neck, but
in a long line of proud neck tradition in Detroit
Tiger's fandom.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I like Pete col I mean, Pete grol Alms was
just talking shit the entire time to.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
Like tearing up the visitor locker room. Yep, bitching job.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Yeah yeah, by the way, uh really m yeah. People
have been going and digging up all the Guardians posts
from about you know, a month ago about how it's
just a two team race.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, thank you. By the way, frames rhythm uh for
like kind of clips. How long do they limit his
innings for? That is a good question, Tony. But I
think they're just gonna play. I think they're gonna be
played by itar, aren't they.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Let's see, I mean how many he had forty five
last year or so forty nine last year.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
I mean, I think they're just not gonna want the
outings to be super long. Maybe in the postseason that changes,
but you know, seventy five eighty five pitches something like that,
But that's that's kind of what they do with Melton
even you know, like Melton might might top ninety, but
they don't go much beyond that.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
In general.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Yeah, I think they'll be they'll be cautious, but he'll
get he'll get you. We said six weeks left. You see,
he'll probably get forty forty five innings.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
At something like that and maybe, you know, and maybe
there's less concern because everything won't perfectly. And that's kind
of what we were hearing all summer long, is that
he looked great. You know, he was strong, he was
right back, you know, throwing super hard. And they were
already working on stuff. You know, when it goes that well,
maybe you know, maybe you think about it a little
differently than when a guy comes back and is his
velo's off or his controls off a little bit and
he can't quite get it dialed in. If you're pitching this, well,
(29:33):
you know, that's about as efficient as it gets just
to be throwing the ball that well. So we'll see,
but I don't think they're going to like, you know,
keep a tight rain at them anymore than they do
on just everybody, because that's just kind of company policy.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
And we've got this is the second time we've seen
Jack's job suffer a fairly severe injury and come back
like Spigger stronger and like he seems to heal pretty quickly.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
So I think we could say that for host way
of Brosna, Well, you know that came back to the
knee injury looking in great shape and got leaner, and
then you know, comes back from the wrist injury and
all of a sudden, it looks like he's like, you know,
got a more flexible platform, like he's he's dipping down
even better than he was before, you know, getting knee
flex and still hitting the ball all the park. Hit
(30:17):
rehab is the key. Apparently you got to get hurt
to get better.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
We were doing a little like a preview or Top
forty or whatever, and it's I was just saying that
Percegno does things that people like aren't supposed to do.
Like yeah, like I mentioned winning the triple ground in
the AFL, which has never been done before, but like
coming back and hitting eight home runs in seventeen games in.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Double A, like that's unreasonable supposed good.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Well, and you know, I think it's good for him.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
We talked before, you know, it was there was always
the big three, right, he was Clark, McGonagall and Perscegno,
and he was always kind of the third wheel because
society and now you know, McGonagall has been awesome up
in the big leagues obviously, and Clark finally joined him.
So now Percegno has got a chance to shine for
a little at least on his own and people will
give him credit for being a really good hitter that
(31:03):
he is. So yeah, that part's good.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
I guess if you want to find a silver lining
in the injury.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Yeah, and you know, I mean, you guys did your
you know your list, and Baseball America's put out new
lists to new top thirties and new top hundreds, and
obviously the Tigers farm system isn't what it was, you know,
like end of last year. But that's only because we
were graduating a ton of good players now, So you know,
don't sweat it too much. You know, they did a
really nice job, you know, bolstering the pitching side now
(31:31):
and building balance in there. And we don't necessarily I mean,
you want as many Kevin mcgonagalls as you can get,
but you know, they're they're in good position now or
as long as they've got the pitching factory coming and
a few guys like Bersanio, Hope and Rainer, you know,
that's kind of what you need. You don't need a
you know, the farm sistering ranking is just just to
get you to where they're getting right now. So yeah,
(31:54):
it's been a pretty impressive. I did an interview like
an hour and a half before this, and yeah, you know,
we were talking about that quite a bit. You know,
people are like, oh, but the farm, you know, and
it's like, well, screw the farm. I mean, the farmer
is just here to make them make the team better,
you know, I mean, don't don't worry about that too much.
And there's a lot of guys that I think we
all like who are just outside of kind of top
one hundred status now, and several of them are are pitchers,
so you know, it's just just up to them to
(32:17):
develop the next couple of guys and keep the pipeline going.
But yeah, I mean, the Tigers kind of look like
they have a good team, a good position group built
and set up for years to come now, and there's
only a couple more guys, you know, coming and hopefully
more beyond that.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
Yeah, and we'll address that when we get to the cards.
Uh in the Slash show here a little bit, but
I wanted to address tomorrow the Guardians come to town.
We mentioned this earlier. Now the Guardians are one game
back and the Tigers for second place, and then the
White Sox Big Big Series this week. But one thing
is certain tomorrow, just win and the Tigers are owing
(32:53):
six gins Cleveland this year Cleveland had and I do
not want Cleveland fans talking shit anymore. I'm tired of it. Quiver. Yeah,
you know, for any times, you know, it doesn't matter
it's so funny how cleaning like you stroke the old
division way when we beat in post season, Well it
doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
Yep, yep, I know. So I know they you know,
considering that they've been the dominant team in the in
the central for a while now, you know, they do,
they do get a little a little bit little brotherish
about it sometimes. Maybe it's just because there's so much
media about the Tigers and but you know that's ninety
percent been Schooble, like we're finally free. Well we're not.
We're still not one hundred percent free from the school talk,
(33:28):
but you know, we're kind of we're kind of in
that you know that, Okay, we're moving, we're moving on
into new things. It's not just about Tark Schoogle and
how we're about to feed you know, the Dodgers and
other ace or whatever.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Yeah, you know how you know, uh, you know how
bad Cleveland is is a big brother. You know how
bad it is that they literally do something just obnoxious
like this, Come on down to Cleveland town.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Everyone under construction since eighteen sixty eight. See a river
that catches fire. It's so polluted that all our fish
have as you see the sun Street Times. This guy
has at least two d u U flaps. Look like
a Scooby Doode ghost town. Don't slow down in East
Cleveland or you'll die. I'm based on Lebron James by
(34:18):
a house where the price of the BC are grippling depression.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
We're so retarded that we think this is art.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
It could be worse than these. We're not Detroit.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Trait. Yeah, we're definitely not Detroit, my friends, Yeah, you're
definitely not Detroit.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
I look, I shout out to Justin, shout out to
we have we have. We have a lot of Cleveland
fans out there, friends, I should say killing you know, Uh,
there's a lot of people I know in Cleveland, good people.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
You know.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Uh, Greg Ginga is from Ohio. I know a lot
of people from Ohio. That video, like, I don't know,
just it just irrodaced me. Sometimes it's like, at least
at Detroit, like yeah, okay, well I don't want my
lake on fire. Cohoga Falls and anyway, it doesn't matter.
They had a win tomorrow, they win this whole series.
And I think, to me, if the Tires don't win
(35:12):
this series, all that good work they did on the
West Coast is for not. I know that sounds over dramatic,
but man, they you know, like they really really need
to you know, like they really need to win this series.
And I know, metal Bugs, I'm with you, metal Bug.
The White Sox have been playing above and beyond and
they haven't swoon yet yet, right, I mean they haven't really.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
Little but yeah, not much. Yeah, I mean, you know,
obviously mathematically, like they don't have to win the series,
you know, to determine the outcome of the season, but
it would squash the vibes that, that's for sure, you know,
to go come home after all that and then get
beat by you know, or god forbid, swept by the Guardians. Yeah,
(35:55):
you know, the Blobirds would be immediately right back out,
so you know that doesn't matter, but you definitely want
to win the series. It would be very, very good
idea to put put the Guardians down a couple of
spots and then you can focus on the White Sox
and then we'll go from there. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Absolutely, I mean it's just a matter of the White
Sox have a couple of guys to a Colt Muntgomery
is gonna be a has been a paying the ass,
the Gulf Argus paying the ass and those guys are
you know, and and Thomas, I think you're spot on
with this here we had a four too homestand at
the worst and Will.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
That sounds right to me.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Yep, yeah, handle the super of the hands and Guardians
same here. Parker mess is a problem absolutely, Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
So Cleveland pitches. They've got a great bullpen. We talked
about it. They brought up in helping out. He's an
exciting young player. They've got some talent.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
They start playing terribly well right now and it would
like to keep it that way. Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
But you know, they wouldn't shock me Tigers. Yeah, I'm good,
that wouldn't be horribly shocked.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
But you'd hope that some of these younger bad or
just don't care.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
Yeah, they have they they're not tainted by memories of
you know, yeah, losing to these you know, to the
Guardians the past two years. You know, Max Clark doesn't
cary about any of that crap. Valencia doesn't, you know,
McGonagall doesn't. So yeah, hopefully they just handle business, you know.
And you know one of the I mean the two
problems with the Guardians and us are always that they're
bolp in his killer and they victimize us with small
(37:24):
ball because we play our infield sucks. You know, defense
is just bad, like you know, I mean a lot
of the things that they do are bad baseball or
not smart baseball at least against some teams. But against
the Tigers it's largely worked. So you know, we'll see
if if they've got it in them to you know,
kind of shut those things down and hit some of
these pitchers that they sometimes have trouble with and yeah,
(37:45):
get it done.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
H well, I mean it's and also the other thing too,
is like it's like take I don't know what it
is about Cleveland and like the batpit gods, what have you.
But so they even like when they have like a
for example, with uh, who is it it was starting tomorrow,
(38:09):
Tanner Bibby, Yeah, Tanner Bibby, Yeah, always pitches well against Tigers.
The game before he pitched against Tigers last against the Nationals,
he's not like five or six home runs, just was
getting like National's by way, one of the best seating
team's youngest teams in all baseball. But then he goes
out and just shows against the Tigers makes zero sense
the same thing. Like it's just it blows my mind.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
Yeah, I don't know if the Tigers get in their
heads about it and like game plan too hard for
some of these guys, because yeah, I mean this is
the thing, you know, Joey Cantillo and you know, and
Bibby should not just like destroy you, you know, consistently.
But yeah, for whatever reason, we have not hit some
of these guys. Well, you know, Kevin Williams, you understand,
Kevin Williams is a monster.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Sorry, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
Yeah, they're avoiding Williams. Messic is really good too. But yeah,
you're getting you're getting Foster and Griffin.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Who I think they just got from from the Nationals.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
Yeah, Nationals.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
And uh and that's a lefty and that might be
a point to this, you know, against the Tiger, you know,
or what they part of the reasoning might be, you know,
we need more lefties to comby at the Tigers. And yeah,
so go out there and uh and beat them up
for that, because they didn't do a whole lot else,
you know, I mean, we didn't they didn't go make
any crazy moves. Jose Ramirez is still not not really
(39:24):
looking Jose Ramirez like, but yeah, as we say, for
once in a while, they've got like a couple of
good young players all at once with you know, jan
Now's up and then yeah, the Louder and Bazana. So yeah,
they've you know, they've they've got the makings of a
of a new not dynasty, but a new new pain
in the ass Guardians team that will roll over and
(39:44):
keep going after Jose Ramirez has gone.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Yeah, it's it's a Rovaly. It is now more of
I think to me, it's more of a Rovaly than
it's ever been any point in the last Yeah, it's
the Tigers team to essentral in nineteen ninety seven. I
mean by that when the Tigers came to the division,
and then it was still one sided because Cleveland was
so good and the Tigers were so bad. And then
even in the twenty tens or the mid two thousands,
(40:09):
it was the White Sox of Cleveland, but it never
felt like it was never got heated. But I feel
like in the last five years it's got heated.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
And yeah, there was some heat back then, but it
was us on top, you know, it was it was
you know, what was that one game where we got
hit like four times by Travis. So yeah, yeah, mister
Bauer got us a bunch, you know back then, and
there was some heat in some of those games, but
it seemed like twenty eleven, twenty twelve, twenty thirteen, we
(40:37):
still had their number, so you know, it wasn't like
we were scared of them or or annoyed by them
or anything. They probably felt that way toward us. But
the last few years it's it's definitely felt more of
the reverse for sure.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
I think back to like two thousand and seven, two
thousand and eight, when it felt like the Tigers were
the better team but also still lost, and it was
like Granderson vers size More and like Berlander versus Bathy uh,
and you know, they had Travis Hafner and Gary Sheffield
was fighting Foulestowe Carmona and stuff like it was.
Speaker 4 (41:08):
It wasn't he wasn't super friendly back then. But that's true.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
I mean we've had some some moments with the White
Sox too. I've just never taken them as seriously until
you know, until until very recently. So it just never
quite lined up the same, like the White Sox would
have their little surge, you know, but it was. It
was after the Tigers had already sold off in twenty seventeen,
and you know, it wasn't a big deal anymore.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
Yeah, even even uh it felt like even in like
the prime of Chris Sale, It's like the Tiger's just
kind of had the White Sox number. Basically after I
want to say twenty eleven was when they were battling
the White Sox for the division and the Tigers just
went bonkers in September.
Speaker 4 (41:42):
Yeah, after that it was like, yeah, we don't care
that you have Kenarco or whomever.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
Just god, Yeah, there was like that one month when
Ryan Rayburn just went nuts and just roasted them repeatedly.
And I remember that won a couple of games right there,
and then just went went to town for the next
couple of years. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
White Sox fans are pretty They're they're intent. That's a
good group. Though. I'll never forget the the chair.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
No.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
But uh so we get to the transactional list right now.
Uh winds deeal Prez is rehaving in Toledo. He's coming back.
We mentioned the promotions earlier and it's sad and Chris
and I talked about this earlier.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
A while.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Lockhart Junior has been released with series coming up. It's
unfortunate we got we interviewed him. He's on you can
find it on a YouTube channel. Really good dude, funny guy.
It's a really funny guy. And uh it sucks when
you get that. And then Newburgh, well the coolest Rememburger.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
Durham Berg round. You know, it's a it's an interesting name.
Uh yeah, he's he's you know, it's that that time
of year guys are getting released.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
Got Fross, Newmberg Rundo and we saw Thomas Brust and
some other guys get released. Uh yeah, Lockhart was a
like it's oldier, right, like he I think he had
the second most innings behind Carlos Pena over the last
three or four seasons and it was a big part
of that twenty two or was it twenty three SeaWorld Championship,
and then was on the team again to start twenty four.
(43:08):
But that's just the kind of the nature of the beast, right,
Like you're twenty eight and they're shuddley around the system.
It's probably the writings on the wall. But he kept pitching.
But yeah, I went back to the old I did
like the way we had the transactions last week, but
that was just because there were so many and I
couldn't figure out a good way to do it, so
we went back to the dates here. But I and
I didn't put in the Personnio call up and stuff
(43:29):
because that hasn't been you know, officially posted.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
But official officially. Yeah, and then there's a Austin Gohmer, which,
by the way, somebody was saying, oh he can help out. No, no,
he's just he's just roster fodder. Folcus on.
Speaker 4 (43:41):
I think he was the main piece in the Nolan
Aeronatto trade from Colorado to Yeah.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
Yeah, that's wild. Yeah, I mean we're we're in pretty
good shape for you know, kind of middle relief style
lefties at this point, and mister Herder is starting to
ramp up, so we'll have another one.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
I'm excited to see Bray Herder back. I think he
was pitching really good before that back injury.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
Yeah, but brand Herder is on. He he is one
of the nastiest left handed relievers in the game. So yeah,
I shouldn't call him a middle believer. That's not even
really fair to to what he can do for them.
He just doesn't isn't always consistently doing it. That's a
big tall man to continue to keep everything locked in
and on target.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
So then the Max Anderson, why is Max Anderson not
up here yet kind of thing. I know, he's still
pushing his case and I was walking morning. He's striking out.
But yeah, we're gonna, yeah, we're gonna play him. Uh,
Colin reminder us, by the way, the Saint it's got
fifty million dollars in cash in that deal. Good call, Colin.
I forgot about that.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
Oh yeah, that is wild.
Speaker 1 (44:47):
But as far as like, uh, the rest of the
Toledo this week, it's funny. Well, I had a friend
of mine sex suit me a sext my buddy Ray Goes.
He was like, dude, I went to Mudhead's game. I
was like, okay. He's like, the hell you didn't warm
me about him? Like we're talking about He's like, it's
not much you since Maxic Clark left. I'm like, bro,
come on, like it was fine. And then I realized
(45:08):
that I looked him like I have a point. But
you know it's okay.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
They need John, Yeah, they need John packpack. But he
and Callahan will be a little bit of a fun
due duo and now you got Persano, and you know,
I assume Loronzo will probably I don't know. I guess
I shouldn't assume, but I would have thought that him,
as the one who's most likely to actually work out
as a defensive catcher, might be the one to get
the call. I know, the bat is, you know, stuck
in neutral, but to get used to the abs and
(45:34):
all that, I kind of thought he might might get
a look there. But you know, if he or or
Hope goes nuts or has a couple of good weeks,
you never know, you might see them as well. So
there's there's not much pitching there. I mean we can
say that, but it's been that way all year.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Yeah, and that's the thing is about Loronzo real quick
before we move on, before we get back Toledo. Watch
them over the weekend. When he does make it's it's
really like, I don't want to say, like all or
nothing sometimes, but what he connects, I mean, he really
like he Yeah, it's it's impressive, like one ten off
(46:09):
the bat kind of stuff. But then it's like sometimes
his swing. I think the biggest problem with his is
his swings a little too long. But he is much
better on the right hand side. I think he if
he's gonna side, just stick with the right hand side.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Yeah, left handed, he just he gets really handsy and
he tends to scoop, you know, and yeah, when he connects,
it's majestic, towering home runs. But there's a lot of
a lot of foul balls on pitches he should drive,
you know, quite a bit of swing and miss, and
you know, I don't I don't really know how much
they're gonna be able to to get him beyond that.
But again, he is a catcher, and there's a lot
(46:43):
of things to work on, and maybe switch hitting isn't
isn't long term the way for him. You know, there's
still things that let's just say, his story is not
you know, close to told yet. Yeah, there's still gonna
be a lot of changes that go on with him,
and we'll see how it plays out. Of course, the
you know, the forty man roster thing will become an issue.
But we'll see.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
Everybody who's writing them off already pisses me, Like there's one,
Like I said, We've talked about this numerous times. There's
people out there who hate on him for whatever reason.
And that to me doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 3 (47:13):
Yeah. I mean there were people right now brand Herder
when you were not Dylan Dingler when he was twenty five,
and we were all kind of like, well, I mean,
he's a great defensive catcher and he'll give you a
little power, and you know, you just never know, all
of a sudden, we have the best player in baseball
arguably yea, and certainly in the AL I mean, you're down.
Alvarez can just suck it. Not even close to Dingler's
level in my opinion. I'm sorry, try catching, Try actually
(47:36):
playing baseball, yord On, you just hit bro I'm sorry,
it doesn't count, going full old school National league guy
right here.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
Yeah. Yeah, but uh we're gonna see Chris no oh,
okay say something but catchers. But we've also said this,
so catchers take time to develop. Yeah, and you know,
Loronso is what twenty two?
Speaker 3 (47:57):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (47:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
And I think another thing, like a big general lesson
we should all be taking from this, is that the
Tigers are developing these guys. Well, you know, we were
all here ten years ago watching. You know, we knew
who the top one hundred prospects were in the game.
And how many of them didn't work out just about everybody,
you know, well not everybody, but a high percentage of
guys who are good and get to Triple A for
the Tigers seem to be making it to the major
(48:19):
leagues and continuing to get better. So you know, you
can take some confidence in that this isn't the old
days where it was just like a crapshoot and Christian
Stewart was a you know, fringe top one hundred prospect.
You know, these guys are are you know, are useful
and you know, and developing and they're getting to the
major leagues and contributing, and we're seeing it again and
again and again. So some of the old school paranoia
about like ah, prospects, you know, it doesn't matter until
(48:41):
they get to the show. You can feel that way
if you want to. But all signs point to another
direction that the things are going much better in the
in the both in the rankings and in the development portion.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
Well you can take a piece of point, like we
mentioned this earlier, Jim Jarvis.
Speaker 3 (48:58):
Look, yeah, we're shedding, the Tigers are shedding you know,
useful major league players at this point, and that's where
you want to be that you want to get to
that point.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
And for the record, the Tigers have not traded a
prospect of their own since what like seventy It's been
almost ten years, right prior to.
Speaker 3 (49:16):
Anybody. I can't even think of anything.
Speaker 4 (49:18):
Yeah until yeah, before last year.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
Yeah, yeah, it's been a long time. William Higgs was
a rule five. So but William Higgs as an example, yes,
thank you, by the way, and there was but no one.
Speaker 3 (49:32):
Gino Suarez was kind of still a prospect even though
he'd had a year, you know, he was still so young.
But yeah, but it's like kim and and Damas. Nothing
major since then.
Speaker 4 (49:39):
Yeah, I mean the.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
Guys I could think of were like Aide Civic for
Eric Ibaher and like Javier Betton Court for k Rod.
Speaker 3 (49:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (49:47):
They not big trades.
Speaker 1 (49:49):
No, you think, well the Kaya Ashman.
Speaker 4 (49:53):
Well there were, yeah, I think. Yeah. The qualifier was
that before last year they traded some guys last year.
Speaker 3 (49:58):
No, no, no, yeah, no, no, I know, but even
Ashman and Enrique Jimenez. You know, it's not like they
were top ten guys in the system or anything either. No.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
As far as like, uh, somebody asked about the picture
from last year. Oh by the way, McCalla Ashman, this year,
you guys are ready for this.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
Yeah, he's got the lowest PIP in my minor league baseball.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
Yeah yeah, sixty strikeouts in thirty nine innings.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
Yeah, called him up to Norfolk though then.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
Are they just called they just call him up the
double A, triple A, triple A because they accord to this.
He still his in double A res of right now.
Speaker 4 (50:37):
Yeah, I don't think he's been called up.
Speaker 3 (50:39):
Oh yeah, you know we did. We have a massive
oversight in exact parade. Yeah yeah, well but.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Okay, so you know, but Parties was technically from the
cups and talk about like homegrown.
Speaker 3 (50:51):
Guys that you know, like well when we traded him
for Meadows. But yeah, but yeah, yeah, there you go.
Speaker 1 (50:58):
Yeah, Joe makes good. I mean Carpenter al Jerry Lalencia
or guys that would have been or guys before. So yeah,
but Chris is anything else you want to highlight in
Toledo before we move on?
Speaker 4 (51:11):
You know, we saw Jackson Wolf make his start with
Funky Motion. Again. We think he's just there to eat
some innings for him, but he won the first outing,
so congrats to him.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
He looks like Ellen. He looks like from Ellen from
Seinfeld dancing pitching.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
Yeah, he does somewhere some combination between that and Mike
Clevenger's like twitchy, like you know, power up delivery.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Other than that, like you know, we went through this
last year, but Tanner Rainey has pitched pretty well down
the stretch here. I don't know if they're gonna dip
down and add them to the forty van again or whatever,
but it's another guy that's got a decent arm who's
pitching well. So not a whole lot going on in Toledo,
but he'll be fine when serious and Percena'll get up there.
Speaker 3 (51:54):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (51:54):
Yeah, so you know Preceno. He ended his Sea Wolf
career on a high note. Five for seventeen, three home runs,
seven RBIs, four walks, and just to strike out Pa Checko.
That was last thing I had a chance. Talked to
his to put check on Saturday. He was more happy
with the long at bats. He had two street seven
or more pitches at bats, like just long at length
(52:16):
a bats, looking for timing. And again I think people
always like Pachecko has been there that long. He's I
think again he's been adjusting the double A really well.
He's healthy again and he's still twenty three. Yeah, he's
still yeah, and yeah, just in adjusting very very very
well overall.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
But it still striking out thirty four point five percent
of the time, which it ain't gonna happen, but there's
still like a slim slim champ. The thing.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
The thing about that and uh is he was so
bad in April. It was like a forty five percent
strikeout right, So if you cut if you cut it
off at May first, he's got a one fifty nine
WRC plus since then with a twenty eight percent strikeout right, right,
So hitting two seventy five, Yeah, it's like, you know,
(53:04):
I still don't know what.
Speaker 4 (53:05):
To make of it. I've always felt like his swing
might not work.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
But if he's getting to his power and he's walking
a fair amount and he's actually he hits the ball
really hard like that we're talking about that, that that
lineup in Erie with percegno Gone, it's not quite as scary,
but like having two fifty steel guys and then like
four guys with seventy raw.
Speaker 4 (53:27):
It's like, yeah, with a nightmare.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
But yeah, so Pacheco's he's been playing well, and that was,
you was his first three home run game in pro ball.
Speaker 4 (53:34):
That was kind of cool to see. Yeah, I don't know,
like I have him on our list. I think we
all do, right, but I kind of being somewhat conservative
with him because I still have no idea if it's
gonna work.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
Yeah, he's still got to be like at best of forty.
But but yeah, I mean, you know, but the other
thing about him is that he's not a bad third
baseman either. So it's not like he's just like, you know,
a guy that might you know, wander into some dah
appearances or something at the big league level. So yeah,
that's good to hear. I hadn't thin sliced it out
at all as far as the strikeout rate, so yeah,
(54:07):
that's good. And we know he keeps making adjustments too, Like, yeah,
it's not like he's just been stagnant. You know, he's
lowered his hand position, he's you know, kind of quieted.
Speaker 1 (54:15):
So yeah, I was talking about that too, like he
the all the adjustments that he's been working on consistently
as part of his power lineup and everything. And so
let me expand on the Kenny Sara Sarah. Yeah. Yeah,
so let me explain that real quick at him. So
I was talking to Zach the other day and we
(54:35):
often get questions about Case all the time. They had
a tweet of him pitching something along the lines and
it was the announcement I think it was. It was
I forgot that it was the announcement. Here he was
announcing something big. It was a prospect or something like that.
And that case for a clip got more like it
(54:57):
got over thirty thousand views more so than the clip,
and I wish I could remember what it was, something
to do with Max Clark or something like that, and
it was it was like I think it was a
Kevin mcgoggle thing, got more, got more viewsing a Kevin
mcgogle on our YouTube channel. Like I look through the
search analytics and Kensey Swore comes up top three. Where
is can you swear pitching?
Speaker 3 (55:18):
People want a knuckleball so bad? Yeah, yeah, you just
had Jake Rogers. We had Jake Rodgers at home, Adam.
Speaker 1 (55:24):
I wish I could explain it any better than that,
but it would cost you some money.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
I really really feel like as more people search you know,
knuckleball than than search who are the top five prospects
in baseball. You know, that's all I can even explain
it back.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Yeah, yeah, I think that part of it is the
idea that like, hey, anybody can throw a knuckleball, right,
like I keep I could get up there and get
these big leaguers out, and it's just it's it's incredibly
hard to have a consistent knuckleball that is good enough
to miss enough bats and get enough weak contact.
Speaker 4 (55:53):
And that's Sarah just doesn't miss bats with his knuckleball.
It gets weak.
Speaker 2 (55:57):
Contacted sometimes, but if it's not nothing, when it get
hit hard and it's not it's a fun you know
to see him pitch occasionally, but it doesn't blow you away.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
So yeah, I mean people have to remember the knuckleballs
that you've seen and loved over the years were the
absolute masters of it, like the absolute best guys with it,
you know, like a guy who's like mediocre with a
knuckleball is not a fun watch.
Speaker 1 (56:18):
Yeah, And watching pitch and watching him pitch on Sunday,
it's an example of that when uh, when he did
get hit pretty hard when it's not doing anything, I mean,
Altuna is just waiting timing it up. Boom boom, boom,
all hard contact, just rockets off of them and the
eggs veloscity system was down or the hawkeye was down,
but you can hear. I mean it was a different
(56:39):
distinctive sound of hard contact off of them. News Drifter.
Just so you're tuning in Etam River Ryan late August,
really September. That's all Scott Harris has said about it.
But yeah, overall, as far as like, here's the thing
watching Charles Pitch, I understand why people like this guy,
but everything like that small, just flat, flat, flat flat.
(57:02):
But he has a very good cutter. That cutter is
really good. I mean he can get some strikeouts, but
it's a twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (57:08):
Yeah, but yeah, he still feels more like a weak
contact type middle reliever. If things work out, yeah, yeah
we should.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
We should touch on Ziero. It was his first week
in the system. He see he did get only one hit,
it was a home run. He struck out six times.
I think four of those were in one game. He's
going to strike out. He also walked a blade sheet.
Speaker 4 (57:27):
He worked.
Speaker 2 (57:28):
I think he had a ten pitch at bat that
ended with a flyout. Like he will put together strong
plate appearances and Roger and I I agree. I think
Roger speculated. He was probably pressing a little bit into
a new org in front of your home fans, like
it's probably a bit of pressure there. But he also
made three or four really good plays on defense. He
(57:49):
is fast.
Speaker 4 (57:50):
He didn't I think he got caught the one time
he tried to steal, but he will steal bases.
Speaker 3 (57:53):
So saw that arm a little bit.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
Yeah, he made a nice throw to get a guy
at second he made a couple of good catches and right,
so he's uh, he's gonna provide a bunch of value
and he'll turn things around and probably have a monster
week here in the next week or two.
Speaker 1 (58:06):
By the way, So for those who are wondering about it,
was somebody he was here that said about uh, yeah,
Josh Turley's truly Yeah, just truly. Oh why is Navigat
Navaguy who still starting in Toledo? Simple? John Peck's injured
and they're not gonna now I don't think there are
any Russia. This is the first year that Peyton ran
has been fully healthy.
Speaker 2 (58:28):
Yeah, so it's a tough one, right because Peyton Graham
is having a spectacular year, right, He's hitting for average,
he's walking, and he's stealing fifty plus paces, but.
Speaker 1 (58:38):
They said the team record.
Speaker 4 (58:39):
By the way, Yeah, he's not a priority prospect for the.
Speaker 3 (58:45):
Team, and he's not really a shortstop. He's he's a
shortstop and sort of in the way they gauge Workman
was a shortstop, you know, and so like it just we've.
Speaker 2 (58:55):
Said this for years and years and years, Like the
team tells you what they think of players by by
the way they you know, the moves they make. And
they sent Callahan up, they sent Pack up, they sent
per SnO up, they sent Sears up.
Speaker 4 (59:07):
Peyton Graham's having a great year.
Speaker 2 (59:09):
And he's staying in earing because you know, and we
do think they like him, but it's just like he's
not a priority for them. I think it's kind of
a Trey Cruz path here where he may ultimately get
added to the forty manu at some point and make
it a cup of coffee in the big leagues, but
it's probably a utility profile.
Speaker 3 (59:26):
So it seems it seems like the thing to do
with him now is to play him more in the outfield,
you know, and like because because he could play center field,
perhaps he has the speed to at least, Yeah, but
starting to kind of expand his repertoire toward Yeah, like
a full on utility role is probably the way to go.
And yeah, I mean he may very well end up
in Toledo, you know, in September anyway, or you know,
(59:48):
in another couple of weeks, just to get a look.
But but yeah, there's just no sign that he's really
like a priority object right now.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
Yeah, West Michigan kicking four wings ass all week, by
the way, four ways and some of the best radio
like Buck Martinez invitations I've ever seen about those guys,
like every two balls and two strikes down in Wayne,
and it was a lot of that and professionals And
I'm not making fun of them at all, honestly, that's
(01:00:15):
a hard job to do. But I just was like
taking him back, like like, wow, college is really good.
But Colin, as far as Colin says, one thinks these
calls were a bit late this year. I think it
was out of injuries. I don't think they wanted to
rock the boat too much a little bit, honestly, but
pitch you wise, Oh go ahead, Chris.
Speaker 4 (01:00:35):
I don't think they do it. But like in a
set schedule, right, it's you know, when guys look like
they are ready or if they've you know, played well
for a certain amount amount of time, they move them up.
Speaker 3 (01:00:46):
And they started, you know, they started before or even
before the draft. There was some some movement. But it's
it's just not the same thing because they were actually
like aggressive earlier this year, like with like Rainers not
going straight to Eriie this year. So some of the
you know, their better prospects were just all already where
they kind of needed to be. I think.
Speaker 1 (01:01:06):
That's gonna be. That's let's go no and look here,
uh Jake, we will get to that here in a second. Yeah,
So West Michigan said a team record with seven home runs?
Was it Wednesday?
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
The tea Wednesday?
Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
Yeah, well Wednesday was Bryce Rainer got everything going and
Christian Santana, as Jake said, very very correctly, fighting not
to get released like he went he had. He had
three home runs as a total. It was just it
was every it was. It was also a lot of
more deep center field home runs too in that in
(01:01:43):
that kind of the ballpark.
Speaker 3 (01:01:44):
And so.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
They were tee and off. But the biggest thing, thank you, Alan,
I wish fans more had more patience Rainer. They wanted
him to starting like, yeah, I think Kem McGonagall has
u spoiled a lot of people and it's not. Yeah,
so thank you and that's some words of wisdom there.
Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
Absolutely, And we discussed this a little bit earlier on
the separate pad, and Brandon has brought this up before.
Is it's with Rainer, it's still a lot of it
is still the passive approach where he's getting himself behind
and counts regularly because he's just not swinging enough and
when he swings, it makes contact, the ball goes far hard,
and so like, I don't know how you I guess
(01:02:23):
it's it's a better problem to have if guy's not
swinging enough than it is he's swinging too much. But
you still need to find a happy medium there, because yeah,
you can't. You can't strike out thirty four percent at
a ball and have a big league career really, So
he needs to figure out a way to ring that
in a little bit, and I think he will. We've
seen stretches where he's you know, elite and it's just
you know, he's a young hitter. He's had his ups
(01:02:45):
and downs in mechanical issues.
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
And but you'd also like you if you're going to
strike out in the minor leagues, I'd rather see you
taking too many called third strikes or getting behind by
taking pitches than having a high swinging strike rate, because
swinging strike he kind of correlates more directly to like
your hand eye coordination and your ability to just square
up balls, and there isn't there's only a certain amount
that they can ever even do with that. If your
(01:03:08):
approach just needs work, you know, that's more easily managed.
I mean Max Clark to a much smaller degree, takes
a lot of pitches as well, and a lot of
his strikeouts this year have come from, you know, just
just not just just deciding not to swing at an
edge pitch. Then you he knows he can't do something
with anyway, but they called a strike at him. So yeah,
you know, it's the better it's the better problem to
have at least with Rainer.
Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
Yeah, and yeah we got Espinal has started to hit
a little bit. He's still he hasn't found any power.
He doesn't have an extra base hit in yet. But
it's early anchony at a monster week, and I didn't
realize he is walking a lot too. Yeah, it's suddenly walking.
He went up a level hitting for power and walking.
It's like, well, all right, that's interesting. I didn't realize
(01:03:50):
his brother was in pro ball up until last year too.
He had an older brother named Eli, who was a
pitcher in the Mets system.
Speaker 4 (01:03:56):
I didn't know that Eli.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
Me.
Speaker 2 (01:04:00):
Wood you Haden has like a forty five or four
fifty on base percentage this year, so it it was
time to get him up to Arie.
Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
Yeah. So, and Woody Hayden will also be added to
that pool of like Peyton Graham and you know, like, well,
maybe one of these guys will turn into like the
speedy twenty six man of your dreams. But you know,
we'll have to see how it plays out. Love Woody
though fun.
Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
Player, it will be a good challenge for him. And
by the way, West Michigan within striking distance of the
playoff spot chasing great leaks right now for a playoff spot,
Lansing is not good, so this should be a good
week for we will be down there. You know what,
I haven't been down the one game of West Michigan
this year. I think this is the time to go.
I haven't been I've admittedly has just been busy with
(01:04:44):
between tulis, I've been everywhere but West Michigan. So I
think it's time to go this weekend. Maybe at some point,
maybe Friday or something along those lines. We'll see, but
I might. I might just take a sick day Friday
and just go to Saturday. My buddies are doing a
poke night and I haven't done a poker night in years.
Speaker 3 (01:05:02):
So oh yeah, especially in season, like we do have
to like remember to see our friends and family and stuff. Yes, yeah,
I was up north over the weekend for four days
in Hot Lake with the whole family, and it was
like after after the deadline and the draft and everything,
it was like I really needed a break.
Speaker 1 (01:05:19):
Colin, that's actually you know, call it's an excellent idea.
I think I will go Wednesday. Chris does happen.
Speaker 3 (01:05:26):
And Jacob's picture?
Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
Yeah yeah, all right, cool, Well we'll see you then Wednesday.
But no, it's by the way, speaking of friends. Yeah,
so my brother's inviting me to go golfing Sunday. But
then I had a chance to see Zion open lineup.
I'm like, all right, I got because he didn't play Saturday.
When I went so and I haven't gone to two
games in the ear all season and I wanted to.
And not only it was funny. I was giving Tony
(01:05:49):
capuchell is giving some grief about like crypto account being hacked,
and he was giving me. He was like, he was like,
he goes, I saw him. He goes, Realio, I don't
want your damn crypto. Dudeki is gonna pitch and he's
gonna pitch soon. So uh, no, guys have made uh
the Bridge League is underway. Michael Massey, Michael Michael has
(01:06:12):
made an appearance. Leadies and Gentlemen. Michael Massey is alive.
Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
Zak Klohnson is alive. Paul Wilson is alive. Yeah, they're
not thriving, but they're alive.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:06:24):
Yeah, this is a start. We'll just start there, can
I just uh before we click off as like Lucas Lassault,
like everybody's on Ben Jacobs and that that's good and
you know everybody is stoked about Cash Bayfield and we
want to see him. But yeah, Lucas Lasault. Guys, keep
keep a close eye. The heater is looking outstanding, starting
to come along. The breaking stuff still needs a little
(01:06:44):
bit of work. But I'm impressed, and I really think
he's right right there, just like a hair beneath you know,
those those couple of guys that we would have, you know,
in the in the forty five forty five plus zone.
I got Lucas up there now.
Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
In uh the second straight year that he's gone kind
of this epic run somewhere around mid May. Last year,
it was fifty innings in at like a point eighty
eighty e ra A. This year it's forty three innings
in a two U A. But yeah, like he's he's
shown the aptitude to kind of adjust the competition and.
Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
The gas is more and more too, you know, it's
been more ninety four to ninety five with a lot
of pop to it.
Speaker 4 (01:07:21):
So and yeah, I mean the change up's pretty good
and he'll show it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:25):
Like, Yeah, he's he's an interesting pitching prospect and this
is a well deserved promotion for him. Yeah, and Jacobs
is fun and Brady Smith, that was fun to watch him. Yeah,
you know, his fastball shape might need a little work,
and the breaking balls need some work, but that change
up is dastardly.
Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
Yeah, that's pretty filth.
Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
That change up has come along with good call, good
call Colin here, but that change up has long come
a long way since spring training. Remember he was trying
to throw it, Chris, and it wasn't even no one
near was I you know.
Speaker 4 (01:07:52):
It's interesting. I think he threw a splitter last year.
Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
I'd have to look up at the stats because it
was like a like a nine hundred rpm change up
and away, and so he may have you know, I
think it's a kick change now, right, So you know,
these guys alter things and change things based on how
they feel and then the pitch grips and so forth,
and get to give them time to figure that out.
Speaker 3 (01:08:12):
Like the kick change is becoming the hotness cameras working
on one. A lot of guys have them moments, and so.
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
Here here's a good example here, and we don't, I mean,
we don't have to skip right to these guys. But
in this one I was talking about earlier with a
different show with with like things can change in like
two weeks kill with Whiska. Uh, congrats to him for
making the Baseball America Top thirty. Finally he started throwing
his curveball a lot more lately, and it's like it's
(01:08:38):
a pretty good curve ball and then Owen Hall, who
I was like, I'm going to give up on this guy.
Basically it's like it's not looking good. And then his
last two outings he looks absolutely filthy, and.
Speaker 4 (01:08:48):
So that happened.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
So you know, you just got to give these guys
time and realize that things can happen quickly sometimes.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
Yeah, especially when they're that young and and they've been
injured and haven't had consistent Yeah. I mean, you know,
you really got to try to give him as much
time as possible to let them have a run at
least of you know, ten ten outings, fifteen outings to
like see if they get better or not.
Speaker 1 (01:09:11):
Ohen Hall look like he's changed his painch in his
mechanics too, Like he's that when he comes to the
set or he throws back like that the second that's
a pause right right right here, like yeah, yeah, well yeah,
there's it's brand new, isn't it, Like right, hold on, sorry, I.
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
Think he's just sinking in with his right you know,
sinking into his right side better. You know, he's dropping
and driving instead of kind of falling and driving, although
he can fall.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Too, Like, yeah, he's definitely driving the plate more than
he was when he got first set drafted.
Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
Yeah, but it all just looks way more syncd up,
Like he was just so messy on the little bits
that I saw earlier this year.
Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
So, I mean, that's the one hit he's given up
in his last two outings was a blooper. But he's
generally just throwing ninety five six right by people just
you know, it's low a but it's art. I mean,
that's that's a lively ninety four.
Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
Yeah. Yeah, I mean he's got he's got that whip,
you know, and he's got the length and the long levers.
He's getting down the mound a lot. Maybe the beauty
he can spend the baseball Yeah, yeah, yeah, he grew up.
Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
Yeah yeah, I mean it's it's it's weird because I
think you posted, Roger, you posted our our top McCarthy,
our top forty from this time last year, right August.
Speaker 4 (01:10:29):
Yeah, and I've been just mentioned Caleb A Whiska.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
He wasn't on it because I don't think he had
pitched yet in pro ball, and we just and then
we saw him and we're like, hey, this is interesting.
And then this year he's throwing tons of strikes at
ninety ninety five ninety seven. Like I said, he's got
he's got a change up that I actually like a
lot that could consistently gets called a sinker because it's
so hard.
Speaker 4 (01:10:50):
Yeah, and yeah, he's folded the breaking balls and that's
another guy that like, these things can happen really quickly,
so it's good to.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
See, Yeah, Colin kind of pointing out, Yeah, I mean
there were a lot of splitter guys at first, but
then there was also like we would figure out like
as that went along, like, Okay, that's not a splitter,
it's more of a split change of this type or
this tap. You know, they've experimented a lot, and it
seems like they have a lot deeper repertoire of different
types to work with. And the kick change has obviously
been the latest and best exemplified by Drew Anderson, but
(01:11:20):
even last year, Peter Ken's like coming up with that,
you know, like he was not ever going to pitch
in the major leagues and that pitch got him there.
So yeah, for guys who can't quite figure out a
change up one way or the other, that it seems
like it might be tougher to command, but maybe that's
just me being biased with Anderson, because like he'll throw
four or five that look like the nastiest thing you've
ever seen and then hang a flat one and it
(01:11:42):
gets killed. So it seems like it's a tough pitch
to command consistently maybe for some guys, But one way
or the other, it gives you another option if the
circle or the split or the fosh or whatever isn't
working for.
Speaker 4 (01:11:56):
Or whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:11:57):
Schooble's weird ass scene shifted one.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Is, yeah, whatever works. Yeah, Like there are options now
that the guys didn't. Used to have the ability to
try something out instant feedback, and now you can, and
you can figure out and.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
Pitching coaches used to like one, you know, like they
would be like, oh, this guy teaches that one. And
now it's like, no, you've got a whole buffet of
you know that you can kind of look at their
release and their hand shape and all that kind of stuff,
and they've probably got AI modeling, like which one works
best out of this guy's release in hand now, you know,
to try to try to speed the process up. Wild times,
Roger Craig was this blak guy, right yep, Yeah, Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:12:31):
Somebody asked us on Twitter, what's up with shuffle bamb No, I.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
Mean there were pictures of him. He's not, but there
were pictures of him. Yeah, you know somebody Matt Manning.
He actually was on Instagram like hawking something. He's like
invented a thing to help you keep your arms loot
something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:51):
Yeah, well pull pull surgery, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
Manning, Yeah, yeah, oh really I didn't see that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
Yeah, random Instagram. You're like, like.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
Distinctly, it's like a little plastic thing that keeps your
arm and I don't know. I was like, I didn't
know he like a baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:13:08):
Golf training Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
Yeah, yeah, connected, yeah that way. Yeah, it helps you
when post surgery is keep for your your motion the same.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
Yeah. Well, we can never figure out after a few
years at least you know, whether Matt Manning really really
loved it or whether it was just like, well, this
is the job I have chosen. But maybe it was
just because it was it was just not working for
him all those years, the struggle.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
Yeah, and you know, we should quick mention of Del Santos.
We've talked about him a bunch and he come him
up and hit his first two home runs and the
in low as pretty impressive for a you know, he's
younger than Jordan Jost and he already has more home
runs than Jordanhost. I think he doesn't have the plate
discipline and he's a lot more chaotic on defense.
Speaker 4 (01:13:53):
Yeah, he's error prone and mistake prone. But like he's
got all the tools man like this. Yeah, it's gonna
be really exciting to watch the next year or two.
Speaker 1 (01:14:04):
Somebody somebody posting male boulevard catcher.
Speaker 4 (01:14:10):
Well, I mean I put up his home run from
earlier today, but.
Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
Yeah, somebody else did the same thing for some stupid reason.
Speaker 4 (01:14:15):
Yeah, he's got Yeah, he's got eight home runs.
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
Now, he's Boulavar's got a top right now, it's like
a top five DSL season from a Tiger's seventeen year old,
like going all the way back to two thousand and six.
So you know, it's this strikeouts are kind of high,
but he's walking, hitting for a ton of power, and
he seems like a legitimate catcher. So it's another interesting
player down the road.
Speaker 4 (01:14:35):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
By the way, hopefully we'll get to see Randy Santana
next year.
Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
Yeah. Yeah, he's he's been struggling a little bit I
don't know, like he has he's gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (01:14:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:14:47):
So here's Billa Santos.
Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
You see, Skinny is a rail but kind of whippy
pretty quick bet Alexei Ramirez.
Speaker 3 (01:14:54):
Ish Yeah yeah, yeah, good call.
Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
It's a good call.
Speaker 4 (01:14:58):
And yeah, but like he played a couple of crazy
defensive plays too.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
But his in plates his set up to it's so sweet.
It's just like he's almost like he's like and then
just like, yeah, the whippiness comes through really quick too.
Speaker 3 (01:15:12):
Yeah. I mean he was just on those pitches of course,
you know, so so it looks its best, but he's
really connected. Yeah, it's like the whole thing to snaps
at once.
Speaker 1 (01:15:23):
This is this was a nice play here that one
of the show.
Speaker 4 (01:15:25):
Might have been in one of his first games, but
he got robbed of a.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
Yeah, but you know, he's made a couple there's there
was one play where he was second baseman and and
basically ringed all the way over to shortstop and threw
against his body and it was a perfect strike. So yeah,
it's just he said, another one of those young young guys,
it's fun to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
Yeah. Shout out to Ryan Garko and Chane Ferrell. Both. Yep,
it all all seems to be going well. They just
needed some more pitchers to work with and now they
got him too.
Speaker 1 (01:15:54):
Yeah. And Rainer Casillo, for that to mention, had a
solid week two mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
Yeah, I'm sad about my born Carlos Marcano that doesn't
come to pass. I was all excited about the v
low bump and always thought, you know, with that and
with the control yet that it would that would come along.
But he's he's in bad shape now unfortunately. But Rainer
starting to show some signs again. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:16:17):
See, yeah, it should be a big week, big week.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
Big series, big series.
Speaker 1 (01:16:23):
Yeah, big series, big series, huge must wine, must win.
So remember folks, uh, it's gonna be like I said,
what the West colastest matter was what they do this week.
They got to Cleveland and they got the We got
Chicago for that, so.
Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
They imagine the crowing I'm sorry, the intro. Imagine the
crowing that's going to go on if if we win
these two series, like everyone is suddenly going to be
in their absolute glory. Like we didn't even need you, Trek.
Stop talking to the media, we don't care, we don't
want you back. We got this look, yeah, Scott Harris,
I think has done some research on his picking picking acquisitions,
(01:16:59):
because I I feel I mean, obviously, I've said the
same thing and ripped him for that the whole last
year and a half for not doing a good job
of acquiring free agent pictures for the deadline trades last
year that were abysmal, you know, Alex Cobb blah blah blah.
But yeah, I think he think he did pretty well
at the deadline, and we like Fluky a lot, and
(01:17:21):
then we'll see if it'stir Depsey and some of these
other guys can contribute to.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
Yeah, like I said, I think he showed some consition.
I'm sorry, Chris, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
No, we're expecting to see Flukie at some point here
in the next month.
Speaker 1 (01:17:32):
Yep, yeah, not sooner or yeah. So we'll keep you
posted and I'm sure somebody will stalk an Instagram or
two and find some footage out there too as well.
