Welcome to another episode of Tiger's Report podcast presented by
Just Baseball. We'll get into that in the moment a

all that have been transferred. I am a helica, so
alongside me is Brandon Day and Chris Brown and you

(01:18):
you know, if you want support this great, but you
know after two weeks we put out content almost every
other day, well through two, three times a week plus
their website, Come on, come only. Economy is tough, so
I get it, and I'm you know, I get things
that are rough, So I'm not gonna have canceled, so they.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Could go, you know, sign up for HBO and watch
house with the Dragon Brokes.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Right, maybe that or I mean if you're doing that
to you help the earthquake victims of Venezuela, by all
means that that's cool too and so appreciate that. Yeah,
but the definitely you can go to if you want
to donate. One way you can is the United Way.
Support the United Way. They have a link that you
can donate money. Or I think the Tiger I was
trying to figure out how the Tigers would do when
it yesterday they were on Fox two talking about that
(02:03):
with Carl Ski and the voice who does like multiple
things for the Tigers, and he does he does all
the translation, purpose translations everything, and the whole thing just sucks.
Former prospect u Elizo or Alfonso is Afonso his wife
and daughter are missing.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
I think, yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
Think wife or daughter or his his mom and sister.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah, yeah, either way, it's it's it's brittle man like
you know that was Gorky Hernade's his wife is gone.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Oh that's right, yeah, former Tiger they were you know.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
They were all staying in a hotel.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
It's supposed to be one of the better hotels in Crocus,
I think, or near Cracus, and that they can collapse
just brutal, just.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Not much you can do, just just too big of
an earthquake really probably for even you know, building and
construction methods to necessarily save you. So yeah, just just
a terrible thing to happen, for sure.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah, there's two. There was two within a minute of
each other. Then there was the after shock the day after,
and so yeah, the whole the whole thing sucks. But uh,
any rate, let's move on to the Tigers who are
right now playing the Yankees, and they're up right now
seven to nothing as they've taken advantage of some bad
defense by the Yankees some I guess questionable fielding by
(03:28):
right fielder there on that call.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
That was has decided to try to close line Jazz
Chisholm and almost talk them out.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
We I we remember Jason A. Benga's going back to
the playoffs in Erie four years ago. Yeah, maybe longer.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Than like he Yeah, it was about three years ago. Yeah,
it was, it was. It was it a series? Yeah,
go ahead, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
It was the year they lost in the championship.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Yeah, where they when they went to Summerset and they
were the mysterious game where they felt like they're getting.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Whatever it was they lost like thirteen to nothing with
a no hitteror yeah, but yeah, no, he was. He
was a terrible He's always been a terrible fielder.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Like he's just not not.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
You gotta be have a little bit more special awareness
than that to feel bad for Get because like you said,
you know, he's always getting hurt. And Jake Expands loved
to yell at him because he has a big personality.
Sometimes he likes to have a Tootsie pop or whatever.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Yeah, he's got a little bit of a troll. Yeah,
he's just got a little bit of troll in him too.
You know, he's not afraid to just say what he's thinking.
And yeah, and sometimes people don't like what he's thinking.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
I don't mind him compared to Josh Naylor, who, No,
I actually really like Jazz, you know, to me, he's
kind of a breath of pressure.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
But yeah, yeah Naylor, yea, yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
The Austin Hedges yelling at Josh Naylor.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah that was great.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
No one likes you, bro, even your own team doesn't
like you.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yeah, it kind of minds me of a Star Wars.
My friend doesn't like you. I don't like you. I
like you. So it's yeah, and he was living rent
free and sad though, but plenty to get to with
the Tighters today as the Tigers lost three out of four,
of which I mean, if we, if we, let's face it,
Saturday and sunny. With both winnable games, the bullpen, the
(05:09):
vaunted bullpen, blew both leads as the offense came together,
but Canson cost up a home run Vest. I'm not
sure what's going on with the Vest, but just the Tigers,
even in Tyler Holten has been pitching better as of late.
And this was all without Jordan Alvaretz doing jack shit
(05:31):
the whole series. I mean that that's it. That's bad.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
I'm sorry, yeah, I mean it just continues to be
the bullpen. You know, the rotation has been good to
great all year. Even when Schoobale and Miz were out,
they held it all down. Obviously, this isn't a very
good defensive club, and obviously the back half of the
lineup it sucked. But you know, if they just had
a reasonably good bullpen who was holding leads like a normal,
(05:57):
reasonably good bullpen. You know, we probably have ten more wins. Yeah,
I hate to just put it all on that, but
that's kind of it. And I mean I was complaining
about Cater Montero moving to the bullpen, but I mean
they've just broken me at this point because it's like,
you know, maybe you should just put Melton and Montero
in the bullpen because the rotation doesn't matter, like the
it doesn't matter. You know, how good they pitched, they
(06:19):
can't hold the lead that at the end of the game,
and no one's been able to do it consistently. They
were better in June, but the last week has looked
right back to where they were in May, where they
were had, you know, plenty of games. They weren't blowing
people out, they just could not win any close games.
And here we are again.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
It's it's weird because this is a nice, enjoyable thumping
of the Yankees, and it feels good and we see
the elements of this team that is good, right, But
it's it's just this last weekend was was it for me?
Speaker 5 (06:51):
Like I'd said, they had to go seven and three,
eight and two.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
On the homestand they started four to oh, they finished
five and five, and it's just like a problem now, right, Like,
like there's twenty eight games till the trade deadline. If
they go twenty and eight, there's still a game under
five hundred, like they're in the playoff hunt, but they're
still not good.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
And so I think that was that was just kind
of it, Like I have no.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Problem with them, you know, continue to play, try and
play well for the next two three weeks, but I
think it's over.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
I think they do have to sell Cacy.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
My is doing doing a Tiger's a favor by pitching
this well consistently. And I was saying to Rock before this,
like there's a way to make this work where it
sets you up for a real nice run of contention
over the next four or five years. You're doing it
without Schooble and Myze, right, Like, it's kind of a
bummer that those guys didn't get a chance to really
go for it. But if you look at your offensive corps, theoretically,
(07:43):
you know, Dingler McGonagall greens a little bit later in
his career, like contract wise, but then some of the
guys they might rebring it in with, you know, with
Clark and who knows, you got. I mean, I don't
know if they really They didn't really give Cruise much
of a look, and I'm not sure how much of
a future he has with them. But there's Valencia, there's
Anderson that we got lead performing now, Callahan was doing well.
(08:07):
Pack Like, they have a fair amount of bodies for
the offense. So if they can go out and get
some MLB ready starting pitching, kind of reminiscent of what
Dombrowski did trading David Price. Go get a Matthew Boyd
and the Daniel Norris type and see what happened. But yeah,
that's where I'm at that they have to do it now.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
To me, I agree, and that's this was the breaking
point to me too. I actually kind of said it
even like mid June, and I was kind of like,
all right, let's just hang in there with them, like
two more weeks, we'll see what happens. But I think
there's even an argument that trading Tark Schooble and Casey
Mice doesn't even materially change this team that much. You know,
there's so much value to be gained by trading them,
(08:46):
and it's still just going to come down to can
they find a couple guys to hold things down. I mean,
we know they've got job, you know, possibly coming back,
like we expect him anyway, who knows what it'll it'll
look like exactly at first, and you might have Max
Clark coming up up. But you know, what they need
is a bullpen. If the bullpen just happens to pitch well.
And it's kind of inexplicable that they've pitched as badly
(09:07):
as they are, you know, in terms of holding leads
when you look at their peripherals and they're like their
actual numbers aren't aren't atrocious, Like this shouldn't be like
this god awful bullpen, But that's just how they're performing.
And yeah, I just think they put themselves in a
spot where, yeah, I mean they need to go trade
for pitching and bat hopefully if they can get both.
Casey Weice is pitching, I think I just tweeted this
(09:28):
a few minutes ago, you know, better than Jack Clarity
was in twenty twenty four, or at least very very similar. Obviously,
he's got to prove that the grain injuries behind him
and Tart Scoop's got to get on a little bit
of a role. But he looks one hundred percent healthy,
So you should be able to get a lot, and
the expectation should be that they they get a haul
for those two players, and they don't even have to
like completely give up this year on trying to sneak
(09:51):
into the final wild card spot. But that sets you
up with, Yeah, with the prospects that you've got coming.
You know, we've Bersanio's back in the Complex League, and
I don't know if he's gonna be ready, you know,
sometime next year or not. But yeah, I mean, Lee
pet callahan, there's a lot more support beyond Max Clark
that they should be able to draw and if they
can just get this fricking bullpen together. And you know,
(10:13):
I don't know what to tell them to do to
do that. I mean, the tried and true method is
either to get yourself the most elite closer possible or
to convert a couple of starters. And so here we
are where you know, Montero is gonna get converted at
least for some period of time, and they may need
to keep that going. Maybe you trade for River Ryan
and you just put him in the bullpen until he
proves he can stay healthy for a while you know,
(10:34):
or you go after Christians Zueta, who's pitching lights out.
You know, there's there's pitching available from the Dodgers, and
then there's you know, several other contending teams who you
know at least have the pieces to make a deal
like that work for either one of them. So we'll
just have to see how it plays out. But I
don't want them to just wait around until after the
All Star break and then it kind of all gets
(10:56):
you know, gets conflated with everybody else that's being traded.
I would love for them to trade Google and get
what they want from him, like in the next two weeks,
because then maybe Casey Maies is the best starting pitcher
available at the deadline, and Jack Flaherty might even you know,
have some value because he's you know, pitching like he
did last year, where he's you know, better than Chris Paddock,
so probably better than probably better than Charlie Martin. I'm
(11:17):
just just saying maybe not but at least at least equivalent,
at very least so.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Charles says, worst War centerfield, right field, pensitart MLB more
the issues in the bullpen. The bullpen has blowing fifteen
leads past somethingning, Charles, So think about this way, if
you hit about the rest of it, if you had ten,
if you had ten of those, at least eleven of those,
and go and just go. Okay, that would give him
a little bit closer to the reason why I say,
(11:42):
if they won ten of the fifteen. Let's say they
won ten out of fifteen, right now, okay, so Tigers,
that put them at forty five and forty or you
know what it would be. So they'd be forty five
and I'm bad at mass So let's see here, forty
five and thirty nine. Right, technically, if there was the
other way around, if they can take, if they took
if they won ten of those fifteen, right yeah, yeah,
(12:04):
something like that, so they'd be okay. So but then
you look at the rest of the al. The Rays
and Yankees are the only teams in the Al East
that are above five hundred. The White Sox in Cleveland
and Ale Central Als is a giant turt sandwich right now.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
The White Sacks and the Guardians are only you know,
a couple of games above five hundred exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Yeah, and the Twins, we don't want to hell, the
Twins are but the twins are you know, where were you?
But anyway, when you get run support, anybody can pitch better,
and I'll grant that.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Yes, you know, a part of the problem is that
this isn't a very good defensive team, and there's you know,
there's there's a little leakiness that that kicks in. But
a lot of these have just been walkoff homers or
just giving up homers, you know, like you know, McGonagall
makes a bad throw yesterday, Keith is still pretty inexperienced
at first base. Maybe a better first baseman gets it
and still manages to tag the base. I don't know,
(12:54):
but one way or the other. Then Holton gives up
a home run to a rookie who doesn't really you know,
have a track record hitting for that much power, and uh,
you know, it's just like anytime something starts to go wrong,
they just completely crumble.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Well, Sean Harris, Harris to see his high explains why
he's barely spoken leely or the media relationships. He saw
what happened Buster and said maybe he should stay quiet
for a while.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
That's a little a little different, but yeah, maybe don't
pretend you're going to address an issue of community importance
and then uh, and then be like, no, I'm not
taking questions. Yeah, Buster is way over time. Yeah, I
mean Scott Harris, you know, I mean he is kind
of easily this way where you never see him unless
something good happens. You know, he's not coming out there
to explain why they why May was a disaster. That's
(13:39):
all for AJ to do. But I think most most
team runners are kind of that way, you know.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
So yeah, I have.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
I had a couple of couple of tweaks this weekend
that I pushed out. They were basically me saying I'm done,
I'm ready, I'm ready to give up. And then they
both had typos at them and I deleted them. And
I don't redo it because I feel dumb because when
you do that, but like I can't edit because I
don't have the good Twitter whatever. And whenever I see
somebody who like writes a tweet and then has to
(14:09):
change it and do another one, I always feel like, yah, sucker,
So I just don't do it.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
One of them was like, yeah, this is this is
basically it's you can survive any number of issues with
the team. You can survive a bad defense, and you
can survive an inconsistent offense, and you can survive an
iffy bullpen, but you can't really survive all three at
the same time. And basically what happened was in May,
the offense basically the Tigers just went underwater, and every
(14:37):
time they pop up, the bullpen just dunks their head.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Again.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
There's just the unless they had a completely lights up bullpen,
they can't come back from this because there's just there's
no room for error. And yeah, and that's that's a
real bummer because they tried to address the bullpen and
to a certain degree, right Like, you know, they brought
back Fin again, they signed Kenley Jansen, they brought in
Anderson and DayLA's like, you know, Da Hazers. Maybe not
the best choices in the world, but you know, they
(15:04):
tried a little bit. Just none of it worked out.
And again, you know, Best was kind of your most
reliable reliever last year and he's been a bit of
a disaster. And when that happens, there's not a whole.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Lot you can do, and signing, you know, for four
relievers is not what you want to do. I mean,
you know, I think we've talked about this in the preseason,
Like that's a tacit admission that you're both in his
trash and you didn't do much last year to improve it.
And yeah, I mean their solutions have been bad, you know.
I mean, I think in Manuel DeJesus and Drew Henderson
have both been like fine signings. Like they look bad
(15:35):
early on. We talked about, you know, like adapting to
the ball and adapting to a relief role, you know,
the league, all that stuff, and they seem to have
done that. So you know, those two deals probably look
all right, but you know, the back end, you know,
just just not there for him. And yeah, it's it's
killed them. There's obviously it's obviously a flawed team in
plenty of different ways. But it's easily, you know, a
(15:57):
good enough team to win the Central if you have
two really good relievers at the back end, and they
they don't. And you know, I mean, part of the
part of the dominance of the Guardians such as it is,
is just that they always have that bullpen and they
play good defense there. Their infield is usually good, and
you know, and that can help you because that one
mistake under pressure late in games can can send things spiraling.
(16:19):
Sometimes but even there, I don't really think it's the defense.
They just don't have the horses back there, and that's
pretty much been the story of the season. So if
they have to put Montero, you know, down there and
see if maybe he can figure out how to close games, fine,
you might as well try some other things. Cater's gonna
get his his turn in the rotation again next year,
and he's done more than enough to earn it. And yes,
(16:40):
it's kind of kind of lame that he gets bumped
out of the rotation for guys who haven't pitched as
well as him, but it's just the nature of the game.
Clarity's here on a twenty million dollars deal and he's
a starter, and he's going to go to free agency
and they're not going to you know, force him to
the to the bullpen unless things go real south again.
And it's Jack flerity, So you know, there's a fair
chance I will go very sofa if you can trade
(17:01):
Jack flarerty right now for you know, a decent piece.
I'm not I'm not opposed to that idea right now either.
Casey Mice, by the way, it looks like fricking prime
Kevin Gusman. Now, like it's just slight, slight variations. I mean,
he's pitching his ass off, this is impressive.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Yeah, and he's training I mean basically the now that
the Tigers were smart and maximize on that and treat them. Yeah, yeah,
that's fine.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
And there's some complications, you know, because we don't know
what's going to happen with the CBA and that, and
that's going to affect some of these things too. You know,
like you could have thought to yourself, well, maybe we'll
just give Casey Mice the qualifying offer and we'll keep
him for one year or someone will have to overpay
for him, but that's not an option. You know, you
can't trade him for competitive balance picks because they may
not exist next year. You know, it's all it's complicated,
(17:47):
but at the same time, it's just streamlining things like
you're just gonna have to trade these guys for the
best prospects you can get and then see what happens
with the new CBA and maybe you just signed Casey
Mice back next year if he's if he's open to it.
He likes Chris Fetter, he likes AJ They raised him,
They raised him from a pup.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
Yeah, you know it is. It's just frustrating to see.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
You know, the other day they were showing school bowl
talking to Myce and Berlander.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
At Melton and You're like, I would love to see that,
but I don't know what happened.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
With the rod. You're muted, sorry about that. The dog.
The dog. There's a shrine of my dad, and the
dog kept looking at it really weird. And it was
looking at it really weird. All of a sudden it
looked up and then spooked that and then the dog
got spooked and ran out of the room. So the
hell's going on the shrine my father? That's spooked out
my dog.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
But then also Lucy got some explaining.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Yeah, Lucy got you. But no, no, that's a good
Pecko and dodger Stein for your birthday. I hate you, Sean.
I'm just ooking. That's pretty that's pretty awesome to have that. Yeah,
I mean either I'm going to Pittsburgh in August. I'm
sure I wanna go to Wrigley Field. A couple weeks
with my sister's friends down there, and she invited me
down to go see. I've never been Wrigley Field, but it's.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Like hilariously unimpressive on the way in, and then when
once you get into the park you're like, oh yeah,
this is rad and then uh.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Yeah, I'm gonna actor this weekend and see hopefully Andrew
Sears start on the road. So that's my that's my
goal because Akron is not that far away, and it's
a that's a cool that's a cool downtown too, that's
a I'm going to hit the road again.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
But no.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
And the other thing too that I find interesting as
well as among this about this trade situation is that
like as far as like Spencer Kles and Cold Keith
and Jake Rogers go, look, folks, no one's gonna want
those guys. I'm sorry, they're not. No one's gonna want
those guys at all. Cold Keith in the middle of
a mental thing. I'm not sure what the hell is
(19:48):
going on with him as of late, but no one's
gonna I mean, he has a team friendly contract, but
no one's.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Gonna want to trade him. Yeah, I mean you could
trade him for like nothing, you know, the Brewers, who
will then turn him into you know, from God to
your manage Sure again, yeah, yeah, but he's just not
worth worth trading yet you might as well just hang on.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Yeah, and as far as Jake Rogers go, look this,
you know who's gonna bring up Toms? You can bring
up Thomas Needle. That's fine. I mean you could do that.
I mean, then you ask yourself about Valencia. Valencia, he's
been hitting better as the play So if you want
to deal with it, and then you want to bitch
about the back catching, then that, you know, that's fine,
(20:24):
I mean it does. Then you have two right handed
kid hitting catchers, correct, I mean, don't you that's.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what they have right now.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
But but yeah, I just don't think Jake is worth
enough to bother. You know, like there's no point like
you know, I mean, you don't have to strip this
thing to the studs. It's not you know, tear down
and you know, full five year rebuild mode. It should
be like we're gonna go get a couple of kick
ass players, sign a couple of kick ass players, and
we're gonna win. The central next year should be the
the expectation and the attitude.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yeah, you know, I I pose this to in Nuristcord
and you know, I try not to do the fake trades,
but it's the way it goes, right. Like I was like,
would you take Logan Henderson straight up for Terrek schouoble.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
M.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
I mean, it doesn't feel like enough, but that you're
getting six years of a starting pitcher who is in
his brief looks in the big leagues has been solid.
It's like, I don't, Yeah, I don't. It doesn't feel
like enough again, And I think teams should have to
overpay for somebody as good as school, But who knows
what what kind of market there's going to be. You
would think that there'd be a lot of people. And
I joke that like the Dodgers might just get them
(21:36):
to keep other people from getting them. They've got four
top one hundred outfielders, and like you said, they've got
more than enough to just give the Tigers in overpay
and not worry about it because they're the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
But I also kind of wonder what the Dodgers too.
Like that that plays into the CBA stuff as well,
because I mean, the deferred money is probably gonna go way.
That's not a thing you know that is going to
be defended by that many people, like the MLBPA will
maybe defend against it a little bit. They probably don't
like it. They don't care about the qualifying offer though,
(22:11):
I'm sure like the players Union isn't going to fight
much on the qualifying offer, and so I don't know,
maybe Scott Boris comes to his senses here and realizes, like, eh,
you know, a salary cap probably isn't a hard cap.
Maybe isn't that likely still, But if it happens, you know,
this whole idea of trading Tark School for four hundred
million dollars is out the window. And maybe the thing
(22:32):
to do is to have the Dodger's trade for him
now and do it and defer all that money now
while they still can, and get one last big swing
under their belt before all the rules change. I don't know,
you know, it's hard sitting here to know what's really
going to happen, like which proposals actually have a chance
to get through, But we do know there's an enormous
amount of uncertainty as far as all that goes. And
(22:54):
you know, Tark Schools should realize he's human now, you know,
missed five weeks, and you know, maybe the thing to
do is just to go sign with the Dodgers right
now for three hundred and fifty million with you know,
one hundred and ten million of it deferred or something,
and you know, and so maybe they do come calling,
and are you know, motivated to make that move in
early July rather than everybody sitting around waiting to see
(23:16):
what happens.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Hard to say, by the way, I mean, if if
the Tigers are going to trade the Dodgers, doesn't like
Sortajoria fit that profile, I mean with the Northeastern Tigers
love guys from that area among their requests.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Not a bad second second piece, I'd be yeah, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
No, I mean yeah, that is the primary piece. Good lord,
you know, but somebody like, for example, if you're looking
at oh go ahead, Chris.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
Sorry no, it's yeah, they have the four literally four
top hundred out killers host way to Paula and Sirota
I think are the two best as I hear, I
hope a lot of people like him. It's the very hard,
more risk outs. Yeah, and then it's Kintaro I think,
who's in great legs right now. But they also have
(24:01):
a really good young shortstop named Neil Morales, who maybe,
you know, maybe is a third basement down the line.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
But yeah, and then they have that Brandon mentioned the
picture earlier to name earlier to they.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
I like Jackson Ferris too.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (24:20):
Is he hurt?
Speaker 4 (24:21):
I mean he was he originally he came over in
the same deal as Hope. And they have Adam Saramonowski
they got from the Reds that this it's just annoying.
Whenever the Dodgers make a trade they also somehow get
like a legit prospect back. But like maybe they don't
want s Google or whatever, But yeah, that the I
would I would push for Serota. I guess out of
those outfielders, he's the kind of the best combination of
(24:41):
hit and the pop and some speed and probably corner outfielder.
But again, you want to dig too deep into these
fake trades because.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Right you don't know what they act, what the Dodgers
would actually be willing to do. I mean, you know,
I mean, so Roda and Zezueta is like not bad,
but it's not it's not jaw dropping. I mean it's
not really better than Lorenzo and Sweeney in a certain sense,
like maybe a little bit. But yeah, you know, well,
whatever happens, we're not going to be happy with it.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
No, I mean, for examples, a lot more, you know,
but like, for example, the Brewer or the Orioles said
they're going to still go for it. So imagine them
going to the Tigers and saying, hey, we'll give you
drawn Watts Brown, who's down triple A or double A
right now, give him.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
Oh lost him, Lucy Lucy struck again.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Roger said, he's in the upside down. I don't like
Watts Brown. I've seen him pitch several times, but yeah,
I don't know, like it's fun to.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
When it gets to it too. We can do more
deep dives like on all these different individual guys. But yeah,
it's kind of tough to do that in this format really.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
But yeah, and and I mean, the Cubs are the
team that is absolutely desperate for starting pitching right now.
Everybody is hurt. They could use mys, they could use Schoogl.
They have interesting prospects at the higher levels. Pedromiras has
come up. They have it's own airs catcher who's just
going bonkers this year. He's twenty five, he's a switch hitter. Yeah,
(26:15):
and then they have that Josiah Hartshorn kid. And so
they're they're prospects out there, and people talk about the Braves.
The Braves have had like a really strange year where
like three or four of their young players have just
gone bonkers and suddenly they look really interesting and then maybe.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Meanwhile they're winning yeaheah, Meanwhile they're winning like crazy despite
you know, not really you know, I mean, Acuna has
been hurt a whole bunch. Yeah, it's been a really
really funky season for them.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
But they do.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Yeah, I mean they have enough. They don't really have
like the one guy who's like jaw dropping, but yeah,
I mean that may not be the way to go.
I mean, what are the Tigers you know, need Like
they could use upper level pitching, and they could use
a right handed hitting outfielder certainly, and and obviously we
(27:01):
don't want to just go for need you know, we
want like the best guys available and all that sort
of thing too. But you know, I mean you can
kind of start to hone in on who the Tigers
might be interested in, yeah, just based on trying to
balance out the lineup and yeah, and getting themselves, you know,
a couple of a couple of good arms that they
can keep working with while they wait for all the
guys in a ball to matriculate.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Yeah, that's and you know it rives by the way
he said he's powering up. Oh no, no, there the
creepy instances continue.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Yeah, yeah, Loucy knew what it was up.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
Braves hitters?
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Are you.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Sorry? Yeah, Seannie, Tonny pattyre how spooked by the brave hitter?
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Are you?
Speaker 4 (27:40):
Chris considering the whole miners as having a red ball season?
I mean there are aspects of that, right in any
time you're going after young prospects, it's it's a little
bit iffy. But again, like for expiring contracts, you kind
of you're gonna you're gonna get a picture who's close
to big league ready, who has a lower ceiling kind
of compare it like it's a different era, right, it's
(28:02):
not eleven years ago. But when the Tigers traded David Price,
he was he was an expiring contract.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
Toronto ended up.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Getting I think fifteen starts out of him, including the playoffs,
and they gave up Matthew Boyd, who was a back
end sort of starter swing man at the time, right,
but young with six years of control, and Daniel Norris,
who was a top fifty prospect, some place in the
top twenty five, and then a lottery ticket arm in
hiro Lebor So like, again, it's a different era now,
(28:34):
but that should be Probably the sort of return you're
looking for is something like that.
Speaker 5 (28:38):
In pitching is.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
Generally less valuable than bats. I think if you're really
trading for a bat, you're assuming that they're legit. But yeah,
I don't know. I'm not too worried about the offensive
environment in the minors. The main thing that seems to
be up, at least from what I'm watching, is steals.
Maybe it's just watching too much year.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Peyton, Peyton Graham going for the Ricky
Henderson season down there by the way.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Just lots of power. So that's what happened there.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
I was saying, Lucy sensed that you were about to
lose power.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Yeah, that's probably what happened. Like the doll got spooped
out back in here now, but no, uh, by the way,
sweet and Peyton Graham, there's number like so, I don't
know if you guys, Brandon, I don't know if I
was talking Chris about this, did you know that Fangrafts
has a hot and cold chart now have you seen that? Yeah, yeah,
that's pretty cool. And so if you're a premium member
of Fangrafts, you can check charts. And so for those
(29:36):
who are have no idea what the hell I'm talking about,
let make sure you're here in a second. But the
numbers on Peyton Graham look pretty good. And as far
as you guys are talking about trade anyways, Baltimore, Baltimore's,
Baltimore's got guys in double A, triple A that could
be coming up here next year or two. So what
if Baltimore just came off the top of rope. I
(29:56):
was like, here, here's a budget. I mean, I don't
see them doing that because they're they're very conservative.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Yeah, it's really not like them, but it would be
hilarious that they did just like roll in with a
huge package and then we were like, all right, throwing
Jackson Holiday too. Oh Chair of Rock just got just
gave up a bomb. Here we go the.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Dam.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Of course, it's so surprised.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
He walked.
Speaker 5 (30:29):
See that's the thing walked.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Get that bad outing, Get that bad outing out of
your system right here. That's that's that's right.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
So if you go, yeah, if you go to h
Fangrafts and right there you can see you just gotta
go up here, heat map off you have bond boom.
Those pretty cool, Yeah, pretty pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
So and they kind of been like the last two years,
like the coverage has been weirder there, like it wasn't
as consistent and they were struggling, and then they hired
some people and yeah, all of a sudden, it seems
like a kind of come into fruition where they're they're
updating faster and kind of keeping keeping things up to
date more.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Yeah, Eric Longing, and it's not by himself anymore covering
every single team.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Yeah, I mean it's I beg job.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Yeah yeah, I'll give him a lot of credit for that, man.
So but yeah, so right now you said it's seven
three right now, I forget to I don't have only
have one screen right now, so on my usual two
screen setup right now at the moment, so I was
checking the game was on in the background and could
hear everything now it's yeah, seventh three right now?
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Still yeah yeah yeah, right, the home run, you know,
cleared the bases, cleared the palette. So hopefully let's put
this away. It looks like they got Drew Warm for
the for the ninth, which I approve of. You might
as well try, maybe just keep running Anderson as a
closer for a little while and to see if see
if it takes.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Yeah, try.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Summer has been okay, you know, I mean, the stuff's there.
He's just still you know, young and a little inconsistent,
has a tendency to spin that that breaking ball and
hang one in there now and again. But we've got
so many lefties. We're gonna be in We're gonna be
in great shape. Can we trade Tyler Holton for rees
Oulsen something like that? We got Miller, we got Sears coming,
(32:14):
we got.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Yeah. Do you think the Brewers become aggressive in the
school ball market from forty Bumble in order to leave
a pressure off Ezrawski, allow them to allow him to
conserve his on his innings.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
I doubt it that it would be interesting if a
team like them, or or like the Rays or something
got involved, because they you know, as scary it, both
of those teams are going to scare one to death
as far as trading with them, because they're better at
evaluating and drafting and developing, and the Tigers in most
respects but that might, you know, that might be the
road if one of them was actually willing to go
(32:52):
hard in and try to win this year. But it's
it's just not really their m it's not really the
Pirates m O, even though they could kind of do it.
It's more likely like Dombrowski calls up and is like, hey,
well you guys, take Andrew Paynter and something like that.
That seems more likely, like the despair of the the
Phillies trying to finally win, something might might actually kick in.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Kevin just asked why to send a Jesus down.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Because they're stupid?
Speaker 5 (33:18):
Yeah, I think it was just because he had pitched.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
He had pitched the day before, and yeah, they were
looking like, okay, we don't need a lefty right now,
and they didn't. They don't want to dfa like Wags
back or you know, apparently they're interested in trying him out.
So it's it's it sucks because yeah, when when you're losing,
when you're when you're sending guys down who are performing well,
it's it's not a very good vibe. It's not a
(33:44):
very good message to the team in a way either.
But I don't know, they weren't using him. I guess
maybe that's the big answer.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
He was their lowest leverage reliever. They were using him
in blowouts and for the most part, like not using
any leverage situations. But yeah, it's what we've seen from
them over and over and over again, is is uh,
they if they don't have to make a move on
the forty man, they won't. Like if they don't have
to cut somebody, they won't. So yeah, the Hazus was
(34:17):
the guy who they've already sent him down once this year,
So it's like they've already burned an option, so you
might as well use them up in you know, a
couple of different times.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
But the rug even for them to just cut guys, yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's possible.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
Yeah, you know if they're thinking we are going to
trade some starters, like, yeah, maybe stretch them out.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Yeah, I mean that that would make the most me
the most logical sense. Sean, I just did an article
on our Patriot about Max Max Anderson, will you have
duty called up again? I think it's anything that does
with the position players is going wait to watch to
the deadline. That's what I think is gonna happen. So
(34:57):
Charles sinks for the ten dollars. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Squiz it, thanks Charles Odds.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Thats DFA tread dead so we can catch on somewhere else.
I think those are possible. That's a strong possibility. I
think there might be a strong possibility.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
You know, somebody will claim Is anybody gonna claim him
right now?
Speaker 5 (35:22):
I just don't.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
I think.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
I think somebody would give you man like Craig Kimberl
keeps getting the signed right, Like somebody will give you
a low a pitcher for for Kenley Jansen, just to
have him and see if you can fix him. Yeah,
but yeah, it's posable, like if he doesn't get traded,
they'll just dfam you.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Yeah, one way or the other. They're probably gonna want
to try to get out of some some salary. I
assume that's not going to be an issue because they're
probably going to trade Schooble. But you know they're they're
you know, pretty close to the to the luxe text threshold,
and maybe that doesn't even matter going forward. I have
no idea, but I'm sure they would like to trim
trim that salary if he can't really get it together.
(36:05):
What's messed up is that Kenley is striking out more
hitters this year, Like he's actually like striking dudes out.
But yeah, he's he's having like a like a bad
David Robertson type season or something.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Yeah, like what forty says, It depends on the contenders. Yeah,
very uh through the transactions though, gratuations to the promotions
that happen last we there was several promotions on Monday,
the checko. I'm not sure he was Did he slide, Chris?
Speaker 1 (36:36):
Is that what you got?
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Nile?
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Yeah, he was running the second and fell awkwardly on
his like he slid early and fell on his left leg,
it looked like and then he was limping around. Yeah,
so hopefully like he didn't look like one of those
ones where it was like, oh, he pulled up and
like his hamstring or he blew out his knee. It
just looked like maybe a bad bruise or something.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Yeah, whereas pack Pack definitely looked like he was reaching
for the hamstring, but it also didn't look that bad
because he walked off. But I don't know, we'll have
to see. They'll never tell us or he'll just re
emerge out of the ether of Super Secret Tiger's injury list.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Yeah, you know John Peck, like you know Pecks down
at IL. No one knows like exactly happened, but it
was the same thing with Cruise when Tree Cruise had
diel too. Remember it took us like almost a month
before you to figure out the hell happened there. And
the Tiger said they were gonna be more transparent about
being in a spring guys on the il down to
the miners. That's complete another one percent bullshit and that's fine,
(37:35):
that's our progative, and that's that's okay, I mean, but
it's just it's it's just strange. Connor Pingington was released
and I thought he was gonna I honestly thought he
might make an impact at some point because based off
his experienced with the Nationals everything, but never was you
neiver can stay healthy, never could pitch that matter, So
didn't happen. Didn't happen. But uh, other than that was
(37:56):
any other surprise. But just welcome back Hosely for saying you,
thank you.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
It was just to see him back, Yeah, for sure, yep.
And it's nice to see you know. Michael Olabeto's had
a little success down there too, But yeah, I don't know,
there wasn't like a ton of craziness that went our way.
Are we in Toledo? Oh we're not even to Toledo yet? Sorry,
I was about ready to start in. We're just in transactions.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Yeah, by the way, Yeah, Gilberg, they signed over from Arizona,
who he was the guy who has a ninety five
era but after one at out him so anyway.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
Well said Chris, Yeah, no, I said, that's that's Arizona
Dylan Smith, right, like we talked about it. When they
like a Dylan Smith go, it's like, oh there's still
something here, and it's like yeah, but you can also
find a guy like this any time anywhere.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (38:42):
Why hasn't worked with the Figgers, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
But uh so I mentioned Valencia earlier doing doing work.
He's been hit better as a blade. He keeps getting
hit though, like he always gets hit at the plane
and keeps I don't why he didn't. I have to
look at it how many times he's been hit at
or been yeah, being this year. But uh, as far
as the rest of the mud Hens go uh wusat
(39:06):
go was in article Fancraft. In an article The Sunday
Emadrona Blankle said the same, Yeah, Sundy notes did a
good job.
Speaker 5 (39:15):
On go in Loraa.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Yeah, Laura, thank you. And then Little has been pitching better.
As a way. I watched him a couple of days ago,
and it looks like he's something's going on with him.
He's been he's been pitching the better Madden, I think,
just pissed off. He's back in Toledo again after doing
pretty well here honestly. Yeah, and and Max Clark there
was a I saw a stat that he hadn't struck
(39:36):
out against right Henderson a month or something like that.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Yeah, yeah, since like June fourth or fifth or something. Yeah, yeah, yep.
I mean Max continues to do everything we like to
see except for, you know, hitting for more power. So yeah,
he's doing fine. But yeah, there, but there isn't that
like obvious like oh the breakout is here moment yet.
And Max Anderson obviously is swinging the bat well, but
he still does those things that that skin teams where
(40:00):
he just chases a lot. You know, he's he's getting
the ball off the ground a little more now and
that's a good sign. But you know how you Lee
had like a twenty one percent chase rate at Triple
A and it's like over thirty percent in the big leagues.
And you know, so Anderson's thirty percent chase rate might
translate to forty percent in the big leagues and he's
just gonna get eaten alive. So I know that they
would just like to see him swinging at better pitches,
(40:23):
and that's kind of the thing holding him back. It's
just just not being such a crazy free swinger. He
has the hands and doesn't strike out and can still
get the bat on the ball. But yeah, but if
people you know, why isn't Max Anderson coming up, it's
because he there's like that one thing that they need
to see him do and he isn't doing it. So
even if he's hitting and having good success against Triple
A pitching, they're still going to be concerned about that.
(40:47):
And as as Chris said, we don't you know, they
don't want to use a forty man spot on him
right now because they don't have to. Yeah, and you know,
Jami Jones, you know, was successful for two months and
with this group, you know that gets like two years
of He's gonna figure it out. I'm kidding, but yeah,
sometimes it does feel like that, like when will twenty
twenty four Matt Verely return.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Yeah, now I think Anderson fits into that justin hering
Lloyd Jayce Youung group where it's like, you know, there's
gonna be times where it seems like it might help,
But I don't know. I don't there's just a few
too many flaws there for me to like really believe
that he can come up and attribute consistently. But I
do see a scenario where he comes up and he'll
(41:31):
get a couple of big hits and do some things.
But I, like you said, I think big lead pictures
are just too good that he'll be able to get
him to get himself out consistently.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
Yeah, he might. He might mash and lefties and maybe
he'll figure it out, but he might need to get
really punched in the face first to like finally like
get really serious about making those changes. Because he talks
about it and he doesn't sound like terribly committed to
the idea of being a more disciplined hittor it's kind
of like, well, this is how I am, and you know,
this is kind of how I've I've always swung it,
and there's some truth to that. It's easy for me
(42:01):
to sit here my brand himself, like, I you got
to pick better pitches, kid, But it just seems like
he does. And until that happens, I think he's, Yeah,
he's always going to be kind of a kind of
a fringier prospect like Taylent did.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
But yeah, charlsays the comment here that that Dave Dutman
Chase right is pretty high and he has a forty
min spot.
Speaker 5 (42:21):
It's true.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
If Max Anderson could play center field, he'd be a
top fifty prospect in baseball.
Speaker 5 (42:26):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (42:26):
Yeah, it's just the way like he could sort of
play second base and third base, but if you just
play shortstop, catcher, center field, you're gonna get chances because
those are very valuable defensive positions.
Speaker 2 (42:39):
Yeah, sewn here with the Chris Chase Young slander count
is now five thousand, seven or seven million or five million,
seven fifty four five.
Speaker 5 (42:49):
That wasn't even really slander.
Speaker 4 (42:50):
I was just putting him in that that that of
the type of prospects that they, you know, like the
Tigers have brought up and down and ye know, I
mean they've had plenty of opportunity to bring up young
and they need offense and they haven't done it.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
And the darness that bucket. That bucket was created literally
the day they trade or they they picked him in
the Yeah, like we created that bucket out of like,
oh god, this, I don't think this is the pick.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
But all right, I like what uh for says here?
He says we need to combine Outman and Workman. One
super player named out Workman. Yeah that's good man, that's
really good. Yeah, that's Uh. He's definitely off the young
Christmas cards. I think he's blocked us.
Speaker 5 (43:37):
I know he's blocked you know. And again I don't
blame him.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
No, I don't think players should be listening to at all.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Yeah, if you're listening to us, because I mean, you're
mad the fact you can't hit a fastball in the
major League. And look, we don't make players, we don't.
It's the stats are the stats.
Speaker 5 (43:53):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
I think Jason is probably a fine human being.
Speaker 5 (43:56):
But he had a great week. Yeah, Grand Slam. He
was really active, that's the thing, you know.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
And well and more than most fans, we see all
the work that goes on and how hard it is
to advance from the level of the level. So we
we do appreciate that more, I think than many people.
Just getting to triple A means you're one hell of
a baseball player. But uh yeah, yeah, but the truth
is the truth and the issues of the issues.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
So there you go. Tigers take to win seven to
three over the Yankees. On the line for Casey, my
seven innings, one hit, ten strikeouts, do I understand with
the clean ninth inning and on the day offensively Kevin
Goggle that that second hit I showed that this isn't
a video of the Chris that like that beautiful piece
of hitting was just popped it over the left look
(44:38):
like a Q shot. Yeah, just just insane.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
And then it's one of those ones where the picture
like gets that look on their face like what do
I have to do?
Speaker 5 (44:46):
Yeah, this little bad you know, Yeah, that wasn't great.
That was Ramirez hit.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
Yeah, although it would be like an RBI double another corner,
but yeah, it's it's guys like that where you know
they throw him like Weathers has good stuff, right and
got McGonagall is swinging miss a couple of times, and
then he made a slight mistake in McGonagall.
Speaker 1 (45:08):
It's like a yeah, can't screw.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
Up, but.
Speaker 2 (45:12):
Uh, by the way, how you leave with the pair
of hits. But I just just noticed this too. Eerie
and Toledo combined to go ten to two, which is
probably one of the best stretches we've seen Eerie again
on paper. Just you know, Tony Capachelli, kudos again for
just getting this team off to a really strong start
to the second half of the season. But just a
(45:33):
matter of just interchangeably with the bullpen. And but one
guy has been pitching better as of late. We can
finally talk about this. Kase case War has been pitching better.
But the big I'm just excited to see Andrew Sears
back in that rotation. I mean just he looks like
a man possessed too. He looks as twice as pissed
off it was last time.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, getting series back is big. And it
looks like Jake Miller, who's obviously more my guy, is
uh you know, is probably I would assume I'm going
to start in Eerie next week or this week. I
mean yeah, getting those two guys will be will be
nice because yeah, they you know, both have a chance
to like move pretty quickly from here, I would think
if they can get it going. Yeah, but yeah, they
(46:18):
you know, Tony Capachelli's had like no pitching to work
with at all this year. It's been been pretty grim
and he's, uh, he's got to be feeling a little
better that it's starting to come around.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
Yeah, not to go back to the last one, but
I did want to just like point out that that
Peck before he got hurt, and Callahan didn't really miss
a beat moving up the triple A. Like, you know,
Callahan didn't hit any home runs, but they both hit
well and looked like productive players. So that made, you know,
that makes the Toledo line up pretty deep.
Speaker 2 (46:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (46:46):
And and and the mud Hens had a game where
they were down five nothing and one, I think fourteen
to five. Yeah, and but yeah, Eerie Erie and Chris
Meyers had a monster week. That's he was Player of
the week.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (46:57):
And he even had a big defensive play that we've
hosted where he threw out a guy from right field
in extra endings to kind of keep it tied, and
then he got the game winning hit. So five of
the five RBIs it's in a game where he reescored
six runs, so it helps to have a veteran bat
like that, And like Peyton Graham is putting together a
very productive season in a way that I still don't know.
Speaker 5 (47:20):
If it's like I don't I don't know how real
it is.
Speaker 4 (47:23):
But a lot of the value is coming from him
walking a ton, which is fine, and he's got some
defensive versatility obviously stealing like a madman, so there's something there.
Speaker 5 (47:34):
I just don't know how much he's going to.
Speaker 4 (47:35):
Hit at the higher levels, but I think he's made
himself notable again, right, Like he's not a complete total
bust that we cut.
Speaker 1 (47:44):
Yeah. The one thing that that makes me feel a
little better about Peyton Graham is just that the swaying
strike rate is nine point two. Yes, pretty low. I
would love to have his chase rate because I think
that's probably still the problem, but maybe not. He's walking
a ton, but either way, he's he's at least making
progress toward maybe being some kind of utility guy in
the league for a while.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
Never know, not to mention. I think it's the first
time in his career probably he's healthy, completely healthy. And
this is then and Brandon, you talked about this before.
This is the Peyton Manning that we talked about that
was coming out of college that could generate that kind
of power was he was mashing the ball everywhere in
the Big twelve for Oklahoma. And this is the guy
(48:25):
we're seeing that. And Sean, has Peyton Graham found a
GNC yet I have to ask, it's my continuous brand? No,
he had, No, he had you know what, Sean, No,
No tricky legs have been found by him either. If
you don't, you know, forgot about the tricky.
Speaker 1 (48:38):
He's probably finally put on like fifteen pounds and you'd
still barely notice it. Yeah, it's still a read. I guess.
The other thing with Graham too, is that he does
still seem like a little bit mistake prone, like like
he can look pretty awesome around the infield sometimes and
then and then yeah he'll he'll throw one into the
bolt or into the dugout. YEA, well, it'll happen.
Speaker 4 (48:57):
So we've seen they clearly did not The Tigers did
not believe in gauge workmen as MLB level shortstop, and
I don't think Graham is even two working level. I
think they both suffer from that. Like I think you're right,
like a little bit of fumble light us. But I
think you're you're comfortable with Graham at second base and
they can throw him in the outfield and I don't know,
(49:17):
he he gets.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
Play center, he might maybe maybe he wentzles it up
a little bit.
Speaker 4 (49:22):
He's at least got himself to be, you know, one
of these very useful Double A players that we've seen
over the last few years that that you know, there's
a worse fate in this world. But it's not necessarily
a prospect, but we'll see he can. If he keeps performing,
maybe they'll get him a chance.
Speaker 1 (49:36):
Yeah. Yeah, he's evensen together at the top of a lineup.
Is pretty pretty fun though, just just for just for
you know, Double A level baseball enjoyer. You know, it's
a situation that's that's a pretty fun due up top.
Speaker 5 (49:48):
You're chaos.
Speaker 2 (49:49):
Yeah, I can't wait to That's what to me. I'm
can I'm looking forward to seeing now an Acron because
that's I love watching. I love Akrons, my favorite stadiums.
But not to mention, I just think that I really
want to ask them essentially about Also Garrett Pennington, who
had just been doing pretty well since got called up
he kind of slowed down a load of this week,
(50:11):
but just kind of ask Graham specifically, is what is
he doing differently as he can training regimen? So hopefully
I'm gonna get with Zach and then make something happen
this year. Oh yeah, no the oh by the way,
speaking of imp and oats, over the weekend, there was
an incident where we're supposed to bring them to my
sisters my niece graduation slash birthday party, and the place
(50:32):
was supposed to have five trays of ready and we
waited an hour it was supposed to be ready for
pick up. They said it would be another few minutes,
and then it ended up being an hour and a
half and they came out with one tray and my
sister was like pre pissed off and but but shout
out to the Mexican tom Bakery. They are good people
in there in Mondo's out of Mexicantown. They do good work. Uh,
(50:53):
Bryce Rayner making eerie this year, Charles, I think that's yeah, yeah,
well'scuss on the next all yes, yes, but go ahead, Chris,
what are you going to say about eerie?
Speaker 1 (51:02):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (51:03):
I was just kod I was looking up at that
the Minor league stolen base leaders, and Graham is number
two in all minor league baseball he's forty three for
forty five, and Stevenson is number six. He is thirty
eight for forty two. Again, they changed the rules in
the Eastern League this year so pitchers can only throw
over once before they have to pick you off or
it's a box. And for whatever reason, Eerie seems to
(51:26):
be the only team that's really just like, all right,
well let's just run constantly.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
But you still have to steal the base of course.
Speaker 5 (51:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (51:33):
Yeah, you still have to get a good jump and
you still have to not get thrown out. And they,
I mean, that success rate is absurd, So good on
those guys.
Speaker 1 (51:42):
Yeah, yep, yeah, and they and they need that help
more with with pecking Callahan out of that out of
that lineup.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (51:49):
But yeah, as we saw, like Pacheco had been chipping
in and Pennington, you know, things are at least trending
upward for them, and then they're going to get some
starting pitching bag five here or they are getting it. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
Speaking of so we're talking about price Rainer here. Uh,
the home run he had the other night almost went
five hundred feet. That was just a seriously, it was
like a uke. It was a nuke, absolutely pulse. It
was a pull side nuke too, right, yeah, yeah yeah,
And then had the opposite field one right, yeah.
Speaker 4 (52:20):
And you could argue, if we hadn't seen him constantly
hit like all of his home runs the opposite field,
you could argue the three hundred and seventy foot home
run to the opposite field it's more impressive than the
four to seventy to the pole field.
Speaker 5 (52:30):
But I won't because.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
I mean that was it was.
Speaker 5 (52:35):
They said it was halfway up the light pole.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
Yeah, yeah, you can see it like way out of
the picture, bounced down and it looked like it was
like maybe it maybe hit eighty feet up that pole,
which it was crazy.
Speaker 5 (52:47):
He just stopped after he hit it. It's like, oh yeah,
you know, what's.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
A kind of had that look like, especially.
Speaker 4 (52:55):
Because I don't know what it is about Dayton, but
there I remember what four or five years ago we
had that that home run of Ellie day La Cruz
hitting the guy in the skull and knock.
Speaker 6 (53:06):
Man. I mean great as in it sucks for that guy,
but it was a fact that, yeah, Eli Cruz is
like who I'm starting to think about Rainer, you know,
like more where it's just like these just freak tools,
you know, but but with some flaws.
Speaker 2 (53:20):
Yeah, who is this man?
Speaker 1 (53:22):
He's he looks like he's like, you know, one hundred
and ninety pounds, soaking wet, and he's hitting the ball
one sixteen off the bat and stuff.
Speaker 4 (53:28):
Yeah, it doesn't look like there's a lot of effort
behind it, like, yeah, it's it's just it's pretty smooth.
So yeah, I mean talk about a very welcome sort
of adjustment to what we saw earlier in the year.
Speaker 3 (53:40):
Yeah, it's.
Speaker 4 (53:46):
That you can see that people are looking to see
where it lays on the street across the street.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
Patrick Lee, I'm not no John Boy, right, You're just
like you see that ship, like yeah, that's great. Yea yeah,
petrically right here, Well let me see if I can again.
Yeah damn Yeah, let's do John Boy media here. Yeah,
(54:13):
god damn.
Speaker 1 (54:17):
And Patrick Lee is a specimen of a man.
Speaker 2 (54:21):
Yeah he was.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
He was impressed. How could you not be? But look
at the kid, like he's got he's still skinny, like
he's probably put on ten fifteen pounds in pro ball,
but nothing crazy, but ah man, he just has it.
Those hands are so strong.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
And so that's why it was. Yeah, remember yeah, Kevin,
I remember last year he had those home runs. It
was when the Deaton announcers were getting all complimentary about
about his performance because they're like, yeah, the Tigers actually
at Prospects. That was right around that time, wasn't it.
It was?
Speaker 5 (54:49):
It was that series.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
They swept dating at that series and included a three
home run game for Persona and also included a game
where I think McGonagall and Clark got on for sign
Yo who hit a grand slam in the ninth inning
like they have to out, and then they couldn't get
those guys out and then perceders just like first Yeah,
so yeah, funn.
Speaker 1 (55:09):
Well, I guess. But so the Bryce Raider question then is, yeah,
when when is he gonna go to erie? And I
mean he's got a twenty five percent strikeout rate this month.
I think you know you can kind of write off
or at least I've been telling everyone all along, it
just kind of right off like April May and let him,
let him get in his groove and see what happens.
I think you probably want to see this for another
month to make sure there isn't going to be some
adjustment that that starts to befuddle him somewhat. But yeah,
(55:33):
I mean, if he's doing this much damage, I mean,
you do want to keep him challenge and so yeah,
I would think that maybe sometime in August he would
he would go up. Barring anything you know, going wrong,
or him you know, going into a deep funk or something, I.
Speaker 2 (55:47):
Rather then wait, to be honest with you, I'd rather
not rush him out to Erie. I think that the
Tigers have been altra kind of conservative with that, and
I think if he late, maybe late in the year, perhaps,
but I just don't see the need for it right now.
I really don't, like, I really think that because as
much reps as possible continue to mask you know, mash
(56:10):
West Michigan, then you know, as far as like Jordan
Yosko's and those guys saying same thing, I think they
just wait til next year. It's just because to me,
he's just coming back from surgery. I don't see the
needs to rush the guy right now. I mean, does
he could he could he go up to I just
see him, you know, his confidence is really good right now.
Why why you know, and I know they might need
(56:30):
a short stop, but that's why they brought Max Pert.
If Max Pert was released, then I could see them
making a case of bringing them up.
Speaker 1 (56:38):
But if we get to like after the deadline and
he's still hitting like this, yeah move him up. But
if there's any flaw, yeah, I mean, I don't see
any reason to push him either. It's just that I mean,
if he if he's you know, in full terminator mode
for two months straight, then then yeah, I'm gonna be like, yeah,
move him up and let him see the let him
(56:58):
see the new level for a month in you know,
late August and early September, and get prepped for the
for the next year. But but yeah, I'll have to
keep going on like it is right now, and we
don't know if it will.
Speaker 5 (57:09):
Yeah, that's I tend to agree with you, Brandon.
Speaker 4 (57:11):
I think it's it's if he continues hitting like this,
it is it's fun to have, you know, let a
guy dominate and and you know, have a good season,
but it's still you're still developing these players. You've got
to develop into big leaguers, and if you can get
a head start on whatever the next challenge is going
to be. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that, and I
think I mentioned it in the tweet two, Like, at
(57:31):
some point he's going to face pitchers who could consistently
throw fastballs in on his hands and sliders under his hands,
and you know he's going to have to learn how
to turn on those or completely layoff constantly. And that's
even a problem for Kevin mcgonagill. McGonagall still swings at
pitches that are you know, half foot inside. They probably shouldn't,
(57:52):
but his answer is so fast that it's fine. But yeah,
I mean that that's I think one of the things
that he's going to have to improve on. And there'll
be other things, you know, really good breaking balls below
the zone, whatever.
Speaker 5 (58:02):
But yeah, if he if he's.
Speaker 4 (58:06):
The one ninety three WRC plus it this month, that's
he's he's almost twice as good as the average player.
If you do that for another four or five weeks,
it's time to move up.
Speaker 1 (58:14):
Yeah, I think we're all, I mean, we're kind of
on the same page here. It's just like not not
right now, Like, yeah, there's there's no need to push him.
He's just settling in really, so yeah, just kind of
let him cook but yeah, I mean, we know he's
got to get to Double A before he's gonna you know,
see a consistently good brand of left handed pitcher as well,
and that that'll be another really you know, significant challenge
(58:35):
along with everything Chris just mentioned. So you know, there's
a long way to go. But yeah, I mean, if
if he's just going to destroy this league for another
five or six weeks, then yeah, you might as well
show him Maria at the end. Frankly, late in the season.
A lot of times, the pitching, you know, in Double
A isn't that much better than the pitching at High
A is right now, because so many guys will get
promoted and guys will get hurt, et cetera, et cetera.
(58:56):
So but we'll see.
Speaker 5 (58:58):
No, he's Chris, Sorry, I just wanted to go just
talk about the pitching. Last week.
Speaker 4 (59:02):
It was kind of remarkable that West Michigan even won
three games because and I don't know if it's taking
it's just super patient or they don't chase or what,
but every single starter had a ton of trouble thrown strikes. Yeah,
Jacob's got absolutely bombing and gave him a grand slam
there at the end. But yeah, Alis only threw one
inning because he hit his pitch limit. Castillo hit his
(59:24):
pitch limit. Christiansen, who walked eight guys in like thirty
five innings in Lakeland, walks five and went outing. He
got slightly squeezed a little bit. But yeah, it's that
they were not expanding the zone. And so I said,
you'd like to see a little bit more strike throwing,
but to win three games when you're walking that many people,
you feel a little bit lucky.
Speaker 2 (59:45):
Also, I wanted to mention too, the reason why I
thought maybe Rainer wouldn't get if E's I think I
might have the best chance outside of West Michigan to
make the postseason. So if Eerie's in playoff contention, maybe
they don't want to mess maybe give him some playoff experience.
But he's a guy that I think need regular reps.
So that's that was my watch behind it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
But yeah, that's true. Yeah, and uh, you know, even
Jake Miller walked forward guys. Jake Miller doesn't walk people,
so yeah, that was kind of weird. But they do
have to know that. I was just gonna say, they
got Patrick Lee, they got crustitch back Jackson Strong hit
two more homers last week, even though he's overall he
kind of slumped a little bit compared to how he
was the week prior. But you know, they've kind of
(01:00:23):
got a little more health and a little bit more
of a good team all around going right now, so
hopefully they'll put together a better second half.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
Sorry Chris them go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:00:35):
Oh I was just going to say it may have
been that they just had a couple of incredibly tighted
strike zones from the umpire as. You know, they your
rainer walked eight times to struck up five times, so
maybe they just were not calling anything on the edges.
But yeah, yeah, it was kind of an uneventful week
in in DAYTONA part of that I hate that it's
the worst camera angle in the miners now that they're
(01:00:58):
the only team left that's still that, like you know,
Austin they have some center field cameras. But also the
broadcast was like ten minutes behind every day. It was,
so I was like, oh, bo Anchony hit a you know,
run double. I'll go check it on that in five minutes.
Normally the delays like you know, thirty seconds to a minute.
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
So I was gonna ask you about that because I
was I want to go pull clips, and it also
was like fleezing up with a bit was.
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
It just me soon as one of the days it
just went out, it was just gone, so you know
the and then no stackcast data either.
Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
Yeah here too, which is annoying, but but yeah, I
mean yeah, so I put in there, you just went
four for eight King with seven walks and he scored
one run. So that kind of tells you how the
offense was working this week, Like got on base eleven
times and scored once. Since that's not ideal.
Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
Yeah, the only thing really notable is that ad and
Spinal just continues to just flat out rake. Yeah, not
a ton of power, but he just living on base,
getting hits, you know, doing his thing. Anchony, you know,
kind of heated up as well. But otherwise it's kind
of a lot of guys kind of just kind of
staying at their their current trend right now. Nobody breaking
loose yet.
Speaker 4 (01:02:08):
I do feel like Zach McDonald is actively trying to
change his approach a little bit because you know, he
could he could hit bombs all the time, but he
would strike it out like a dozen times a week,
and so it seems like he's trying to cut that
down a little bit and the result is fewer home runs.
But you know, development we'll see what happens.
Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
Yeah, more balls than playing. Made a really nice diving catch.
Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
Yeah, yeah, that's right. I mean you couldn't see it. Yeah,
but I was still save three runs in right Centerio.
Speaker 5 (01:02:38):
Then we.
Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
Question about Jordan Jost's extra base hits. He's getting some
gap doubles and stuff right like he's not. Yeah, if
power comes for him, it's going to be in like
three years, and even then you're talking probably like twelve
to fifteen home runs tops. But he's he's capable of
staying the ball and hitting line drives and getting on base,
and that's kind of all they want, I think, from
a guy who should be able to stick at shortt.
Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
Yeah, and we'll see. They've had some success building bat
speed with people. Maybe maybe he surprises us and by
the time he's twenty one he is hitting for average power.
But but yeah, I mean, that's that's definitely the lower
percentage outcome.
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
I was gonna ask about the as far as day
Long goes for the Tigers.
Speaker 4 (01:03:22):
Yeah, Fin Loong or whatever his name is. He had
just died off the street and came out and dominated.
I think he's twenty six.
Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
Yeah, he was originally he was a part of the
Royal system.
Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
He was.
Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
He was a former Indiana State So that's the same
school that Larry Bird went to m M. So it's
just they signed another they sign another guy from to
any to any ball guys in the last two weeks,
I believed Long.
Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
Yeah, I'm mad.
Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
I think Finlong had been in pro ball before, like
an affiliated ball, but I don't think madis Long has
been No.
Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Yeah, Lake County was with the Lake County Downs of
the American Association. Uh, former that used to be the
American that A used to be the former Triple A
Triple A way back of the day. So but yeah,
they continue to find guys in the India leagues just
to fill the ranks a little bit, because that's how
bad the pitching has been, or just depleted the pitching
(01:04:15):
spin and uh, Paul Wilson had a really good Uh
I'm sorry, Ohen Hall player of the week. Sorry, I
look at Paul Wilson. Paul Wilson has been pitching better late,
but Owen Hall seems like he's the love of christ
figured it out well.
Speaker 5 (01:04:28):
These yeah it was.
Speaker 4 (01:04:32):
It's nice in a number of fronts there, right, Like yeah,
Owen Hall having a great outing was good to see.
But Zack Swanson getting out there and finally pitching. Was
good to see Ryan Hall coming bounce it back from
his first outing which was kind of rough to not
give up a hit. It was nice to see Carl
Koba got blasted. That's not as much fun, but whatever.
These are all young guys nineteen twenty years old, so kind.
Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
Of the first time he really got just got just hammered.
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
So yeah, yeah, the the FCL season and the next end.
Speaker 4 (01:05:02):
Of July, right, I'm checking on that because yeah, it
it ends weird. I think it usually ends like the
week after the draft. Yeah, so the guy can hardly
get in there even if they.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
But uh problematic. Yeah, all bottles back and he had u. Yeah,
he's back in the lineup. He had a couple of doubles.
Speaker 5 (01:05:24):
Harder to put double today.
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
Yeah, so he's back in there and looking good, looking good.
Speaker 5 (01:05:33):
So the youngsters are fine.
Speaker 4 (01:05:34):
I don't know, you know, I Heldla Santos didn't play
on Saturday and didn't play today, so I don't know
if he's hurt hopefully not. Yeah, then you got all
these uh one of the the guys they signed last
year are having interesting starts, like Oscar to Neo looks
looks pretty good.
Speaker 5 (01:05:52):
He's uh he was.
Speaker 4 (01:05:53):
I think the shortstop projected the like he's like six
two or whatever and and lanky and if he grows
to the strength, it could be a real problem.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
Yeah, there's you know what I will say, the international
guys seem like they're they're producing a lot more recently
than they happened in the last couple of years. As
far as like showing some some signs of life.
Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
Yeah, yeah, it seems like there's just a lot a
lot better tools. Yeah, just a better crop overall. Yeah,
for sure. But yeah, I mean the big news down
there is just yeah, guys getting healthy, Like great to
see Bersanio, great to see Swanson finally pitching, Ryan Hall
and everybody. So yeah, nothing nothing thrilling. Nice to see
all the bettle you know, like first double, like a
(01:06:34):
little first being chipped out out of the way. No
homers yet, and yeah, the FCL or the Complex League
ends at the end of like the championship games of
the twenty fifth So so about a month ago, not quite.
Speaker 4 (01:06:49):
And I just wanted to, yeah, shout out Sterling Basil,
who looks like he may be doing the friend uber
Montia like the second year DSL jump, because he is
relatively young. He turned eighteen in May. I think friend
