The music stopped to play.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
You cans it out.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
We got the can mumble injury that is don't last year,
the right shoulder surgery.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Well, deep bounce of left field that goes.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Out to that E books up and that is.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
What one long time.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
All right, Welcome to another episode of the Tigers My
Legal Report podcast Here at Tiger's I Report dot com
and US Baseball dot com as we are officially partners
with a great website and just Baseball who they they
you know, they just are. We have a lot of
friends over there, like Tyler Jennings who I used to
work with over Prospects Live. Of course, Clay uh klay Lodin,
(01:16):
big big record player guy like we got into. We've
been talking. We talked about a lot of Vinyl records lately.
Congratulations to him. He just had his big, first big
daughter a few weeks ago. And I shouldn't sent me
a picture of him watching her. She's in her crib
and he's listening to records and so it's pretty cool.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
But yeah, So you can find podcasts like just a
Baseball Show, the Call Up Show, the College Baseball Show.
There's a Seattle Mariners podcast called the Marine Layer Podcast,
The Bucco Banter. So those guys just start founding us
future Socks, which we're familiar with. Those guys over there,
Elijah and James Fox, good people, the Sports car Ceo Show,
(01:59):
Rockies Inside and Raise the Roof. I like that name,
Alex and Alex Murphy who I'm familiar with as well. Yeah,
check them out. Just go to just Baseball dot com
and check out the podcast. Our podcast is not exactly
up there yet, but it will be. And they're doing
their MLB Draft stuff too. They're also doing a draft
(02:19):
draft show as well.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
So.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Immediately in competition.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Yeah, but you know it makes sense, like, you know,
hopefully people, hopefully people, I mean, we want as many
people watching us as possible, but I hope people aren't
coming to us, you know, for for national draft coverage.
They want the Tigers coverage. I mean, yeah, you know
what we talk about everybody else. But you know, I'm
not going to dig deep into who the Rockies are
going to take.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, so uh let's see here, Rogers time is up.
Thank you Churtles for the ten dollars year, exquisite lazy
defense in New York on the ninth off off bat
off fl bats in Houston below five hundred ops Baseball
defensive metrics support. He is the guy anymore tim for
Nido or Valencia Charles. You know, I respect him for
(03:06):
coming out and just come out all guns blazing on
that one. He hasn't wrong either. I mean the metrics
to a certain extent of not looking for Rogers, I
have to look at back at the lazy defense in
New York referring to.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
You know.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
What, what do pitchers think about him? Because that's the
only thing that matters is how pitchers feel like pitching
to him. And Tiger's starting pitching has been pretty outstanding
for going on a month now, give or take the
occasional frambur meltdown lately for whatever reason. But yeah, it's
just it's just it's not that big of a deal.
The backup catcher and the team seems to like him,
(03:46):
and he's kind of the you know, leader in the clubhouse.
You're not gonna kind of what is he. I mean,
it does kind of suck that Dingler has to d
h even when Rogers is sketching.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
But that's because Dingler too good of a hitter.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
So I guess maybe if they if they had another
hitter that they felt really positive on offensive contributions, they
might feel better about giving Dicklar more days off. But
even still, I mean, I don't think you ever want
to take that bad out of your lineup. So yeah,
it's he's a free agent after this year, he'll he'll
be gone, or they'll resign him to a one year
deal for very cheap.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Yeah, I mean, and and look, I think it makes
a big difference that labor Torus is not in the lineup,
and that's the only reason why Rogers is or excuse me,
Dingler is batting second right now and not getting a
chance to get a time off. But it would be
nice to have another bad emerge to give some time
off to Dingler because as we know, catching right now,
especially in this heat. Man, just a salute to him
on that, because guy's been out there and you really
(04:44):
don't want to, especially if the Tigers have to go
what forty and something ridiculous to even sniff the postseason.
So you want, as you want your catcher, you want
Dingland to be as healthy as possible and we'll keep
things off a little bit. We're just Brandon. We're just
going over our new partners up with Just Baseball as
a part of we their podcast networks. So, and then
(05:07):
Loronzo's out. He did get he was in the dugout.
I saw him on Friday, you know, Uh saw on
Friday in Akron. Same thing with Pacheco too, So I'm
I'm not assuming Lorenso's not gonna be off for too long.
Plus they're saying it was just around the corner. At
some point, we'll see him in Erie and we'll get
the eerie in there. Nine and one they were. They
(05:28):
went absolutely bonkers on Akron and finally saw some tight
pitching games the last couple of days. The offense went
back to Earth, went back on Earth a little bit,
but no in the starting pitching, all that great starting pitching.
What sucks about that is that you don't see a
guy like t. C. Miskive rewarded for the All Star Game.
I mean, look, I understand Trek Schooble missed a lot
(05:48):
of starts. Maybe that's what happened with myes. But the Tigers,
who are often night, they'll start playing the three game
series with the A's have gradulations to Kevin McGonagall, the
the pronicle sun has returned to to to say the
Tigers in field, the on Deiegler first time all starting
(06:08):
Rolly's Green with this third not All Star appearance, and
then yesterday decided like, just have one of the best
games I've ever seen him play, just that diving catching
man out there, just a shut like the million. You know,
that was amazing.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Yeah, I mean that was a good example.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
You know, Riley Green finally got his first day off
of the year and then just went ape shit.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
So yeah, that tells you guys need to rest once.
Speaker 6 (06:28):
A while, you know, Dingler included. But yeah, that was
an amazing catch. So people were like, oh, you know,
if you'd missed that, it would have been trouble. But
he wasn't gonna get it anyway, so you know, it
was just gonna be outman running down to the wall
one way or the other. So he sold all the
way out and that was a heck of a catch
for sure.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
And yeah, going Apo off the wall too.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
You know, we don't see him go opposite field with
power as much sometimes as we'd like to because we
know it's in there.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
But Yeah, you hit that triple off the wall as well.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
After the Homer hackud A game pretty much the Riley
Green game of the season.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Homer, it's very esthetically pleasing to you know, he catches
it and hits it eight thousand feet in the air. Yeah,
and that left field catch, like it's also a great
example of Riley Green's you know, he's he's limited in
terms of his athleticism and his his reads.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
And stuff like that. Like, you know, he's not I
don't think.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
He's ever gonna be a Gold Glover, but he makes
more diving spectacular catches than just about anybody in Lea.
So you know, it's very rare when he dies and
doesn't catch the ball, so he gets to all all
the the entire radius that he can.
Speaker 6 (07:32):
Yeah, when you know, when he was first coming up
as a center fielder, I do remember some people talking
about like, you know, he's not that fast, but he
closes on the ball as well as anybody, and that that,
you know, has pretty much proven out. You know, if
he can't get to it, he will. He's just not
that fast. That's just kind of how it is. But yeah,
it feels like his jumps and reads have gotten better
as the season has gone along.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Again.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
I thought he was pretty good, you know, the year before.
Last year was a little bit of a down down
year as well. So yeah, I don't know, Maybe he's
just just you know, feeling healthier now. Sometimes those little
nagging things that we don't really know about can can
impact things, and then all of a sudden you're like, oh,
why wasn't he playing like this, you know in April
and May and here we are.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, it could be a lot of
combination of things. It's his long season, and uh, he
was struggle struggle a little bit with runner in scoring
position in the was it the Yank was it the
Yankee series or it was the series before? I know
it was the series in Houston, guess Hoson at home
where he was just kind of looked a little bit lost,
(08:34):
but it again picking up where he left off before.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
Yeah, his high love Ridge numbers have always been pretty
solid in his career, So I don't really think it's
a thing. You know, people do get caught up and
talking about clutch just because they remember the last two
times a guy, you know, left the bases loaded or whatever.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
But yeah, I mean I don't.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
I don't really think there's a long term problem, but
he was definitely getting on people's you know, irritation list
a little bit, because, yeah, there was there was a
lengthy stretch where it seemed like he wasn't coming through,
and then he starts getting umped in with Torglessen because
Torglesen probably actually does have a little bit of a
problem hitting with the basis juice or at least you know,
in those big spots sometimes. So yeah, just just good
(09:11):
for him to kind of break out of it. I mean,
Raley Green is a you know, there aren't that many
players that can just take over a game and win
it for you, and he can do it, and you know,
I was kind of kind of thinking they should have
been pushing for the extension maybe off season. But we're
all kind of also like, is there something that the
Tigers fear in Raley Green's medicals, Like what is you know,
(09:32):
what is the issue? There's been a lot of just
like sort of discussion with no actual information to go
on about those topics. But yeah, for whatever reason, they
don't seem to even approach him and about an extension.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
So it's gonna come up pretty soon.
Speaker 6 (09:45):
Like they kind of either need to decide that that
maybe they're going to trade him or start, you know,
start thinking about that next off season once the new
CBA is done.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Maybe.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yeah, Jim, I mean brings up a good point about
the what you're just saying about him as far as
like his what he with his lost speed? It would
be healthy because I also think about it as the
I call it to Brian Buckson effect, because Buckson's out
with injuries. In Buckston's game, while he bucks it's a
much more speedier outside and field. Don't get me wrong,
(10:14):
but Buxton has been beat up. I mean like in
terms of like taking his abuse to his body, what
have you. It could be the same kind of scenario
where they're just like, oh, oh boy, you know, like
this the guy has got a lot of muscle mass
to him and worry about that. That I think is
probably the biggest reason to me. It just seems like,
you know it is in Obka also brings up a
(10:36):
good point too. They seem like they've come a long
way from trying to protect his health a couple of
years ago. Now they're playing them every damn day.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Well they need to, Yeah, they absolutely.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Need to and so it's, uh, it's it's interesting where
we saw this against in the in this series, specifically
against Texas. Texas is a team that the Tigers are
chasing in the wild Card. They don't look that good
on pay, but they have they have some power in
the lineup, and they they're starting rotations in a little bit.
(11:07):
It's been banged up quite a bit, like the Tigers,
very similar and so that was when I looked at
those two teams. They didn't realize they mirrotored each other
so much this weekend.
Speaker 6 (11:18):
Yeah, they do seem like both both overpowered in their
in their own ways, but also with some some fatal
flaws that have held them back all year.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Yeah, I mean there's just a giant morass of iffy
teams in the middle, and I do believe the Tigers
talent wise are one of the best of those teams.
They just like, you know, they're just stuck at the
bottom because the worst month we'll ever see. Hopefully this
is a great you know, they got a chance to
(11:48):
The Athletics are right above them, I think in the
standings are maybe right above Boston. So it's a team
close to them. Houston was close to them too, and
they couldn't get the job done there. It would be
nice to not be six games or behind six teams
in this wild card cut.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
Like you know, last week, I said I was done.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
I was ready to fold it in because it was
just a five and five homestand and then they go
five to one on a road trip.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
But it's like like.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
They pulled me back back in exactly, like and they
got six games at home, you know, go five and one,
six and zero. Let's see what happens. But I don't know,
maybe they can pull the opposite of last year. I
just get crazy hot right before they all star break.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
So people are pointing out that Torques numbers with runners
and scoring position and such are actually not bad, and
that's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying perception, because yeah,
like man, my readers just furious at them at all
at all times. I'm not saying it's a real you know,
a real thing. Toorkalsen is just Tarklesen.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
But yeah, everybody wrong, young tonight. That's a nice Wang
Chung reference like that.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
But uh, you know, the you know the issue with
the Tigers is the bullpen, and they finally like done
something you know, substantive about this by putting Cater Montero
down there.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
And you know, I love Cater.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
I wanted to be in the rotation, but I get it,
like I had to had to break down. They need
they need somebody back there who's gonna, you know, kind
of be a dog at the end of the game
and win those games. And so you know, Cater will
move back into the rotation once they decide whether they're buying, selling,
you know, holding whatever they're going to do. But for
right now, they absolutely need them down there, and they
need Drew Anderson stop just hanging that one miserable pitch
(13:29):
like every outing and you can strike out three dudes
and then all of a sudden, all of a sudden,
here comes that flat ninety one mile power changeup that
doesn't bite like the screwball like it usually does, and
then it's just a batting practice pitch and gets killed.
And you know, ken Lee's kind of had had the
same issue. So yeah, hopefully Cater can kind of stabilize
things down there, because that's that's what they need. You know,
obviously we'd like another bat or two, and you know
(13:51):
there's other things you could, you know, point to defensively
and whatever. But it's it's the bullpen, and yeah, they've
got to do whatever they need to do to sort
that out.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
I've kind of come to terms with as far as
like him coming out of the bullpen Montaro, Like I was,
I did not want that to happen. But at the
same time, yeah, it is a it was a reality
that needed to happen. When you look at it, seems
like also every time Drew Anderson hangs a curveball too,
like that curve has no business sar in the first place.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
Sometimes he just needs to trust his fastball more. I mean,
he's he hit ninety nine the other day. I mean
it's not like a crazy lively fastball, but he's got plenty.
And yeah, it seems like they sometimes maybe just get
too cute, you know, let's try to spin something, let's
try to do something fancy when they should just like
last heater, you know, above the zone once and see
if they can get a chase.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
So yeah, I don't know, no, as far as like that.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
You know, here's an interesting uh so baseball Savann has
there coming swing timing plus missed distance leaderboard for pictures
and so I don't know if you guys, I don't
really pay attention to that very often, or I haven't
really looked at it too much. I started looking at
it when it came to the Tigers little bit, and
as far as like who just for the sake of
(15:04):
the bullpen, and as far as like you know, it
was interesting to see, uh when, for example, Framer Veldez
is flawed perfect contact on his sinkers thirty six percent
mm so but he has with rate he's yeah, I
(15:25):
mean he has at a whift rate of only eleven
point six percent on that. But yeah, I don't know
it was I was looking for some Drew Anderson stuff
to back that up, and it's for Seamer you're talking
about that. You're absolutely correct. The flaw swing is five percent,
perfect contacts twenty one percent, and he's got a wift rate
of twenty one percent on that pitch.
Speaker 6 (15:43):
Yeah, I think the ISO against is like one ten,
so they're not hitting it for power. So yeah, maybe
maybe just lean into that a little bit more, doesn't
it seem I haven't even doesn't you know, done up
all the numbers to find out. But it really feels
like the past two weeks, the Tigers started leaning into fastballs,
like all these teams, you know, we're we're sitting soft
against them, And it seemed like Cater in particular and
a couple other guys just started just airing out the heater.
(16:05):
Mies too, just just coming after him, and they weren't
ready for it. Maybe that'll just be something that they
adjust back to in the coming weeks, you know, once
the most recent data becomes uploaded and everybody game plans
off that. But yeah, it really seemed like there was
a pivot to just, yeah, attacking guys a lot more
with fastball the last couple weeks, and it's been working.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Yeah, it was you know, it was funny. It was
the same scenario when I went out to Akron Friday
to go watch Andrew Sears pitch attacking the fastball like
I was going through pitching turn. I was talking about
this with Chris. You can find the YouTube. We had
a breakdown of Andrew Sears on Friday. I was out there.
It was it was miserable, the most miserable game I've
been to in a long time, where it was just
(16:45):
the sun. I said on the third base line, because
if behind the home play was pretty packed holiday weekends.
I sat by the third base on where there's nobody at,
but there was a sun, so the sun's.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
Like right there.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
It's like yeah, and I had over my sunglasses so
so bad. But Sears was just pounding zone fast walls.
Apparently the United States have scored. I know, well Belgium scored.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
So Sarah's a big Belgium fan. Apparently.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Yeah, it's the waffles.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Yeah, apparently Sarah's uh yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:16):
That'll do it. Yeah, not coming back.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
She doesn't like Christian polistic or whatever.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Yeah or no, she's just like saying gold that's what
she likes. To the Spanish and everybody.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Everybody does like that. I like that too. That happens
on the golf course even.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Oh, yes, that she does have family in Belgium.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
She has she is has family in the United States.
I guess.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Yeah, wow, rule much better prosper Anyway, this is a
baseball podcast, just baseball, not just baseball in a little
bit of soccer.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Yeah, that's what it's probably way coming here tonight.
Speaker 6 (17:59):
By the way, then hears the Andrew Sears breakdown is
really worth worth people going and check it out because
especially he's he's gonna be one of your guys next year,
who's who's pushing up and gets in the mix, if
not by the end of the year, and you just
never know what will happen. But he's just a fun
guy to watch pitch. And yeah, I mean if he
can keep it, you know, he's got the slider, he's
got a pretty good fastball, and if you can keep
(18:19):
developing the secondaries a little bit more, you just never
know what might happen. But he's such a fun pitcher
to watch because he just goes after everybody like a madman.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Love a love a hot head a little bit, yeah,
the pitcher.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah, he's very very like yeah glick Chris Well.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Yeah, I mean he's an interesting hothead because he's not
like it's not like that guy where you're like, oh,
he's gonna throw at somebody, Like when he said he
throws it, he's like, I'm going to execute a perfect pitch, which.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Is good, and I'm gonna and I'm gonna work faster.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
Yeah. Yeah, but it's yeah, it's it's a lot of
fun for sure.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Yeah, especially because i mean once he if you get
established that third pitch better, he'll be I think it's
gonna really be the difference maker. But the fact that
he got he went back and got more velocity towards
the end of the game too. That was to me.
It was just a good example of him being composed
and control of the whole time. You know, again, the
double A strike zone, I want to do it once.
(19:14):
Use the double A strike zone. I want to get
a shirt for that, because.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
With a high A strike zone a little bit.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Oh yeah, oh yeah zone is pretty bad too. But
the uh yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Well somebody somebody did ask when the last time that
that Eerie had one of six games.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Sweep shout out to add him on that question.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
Yeah it was. It was last August that New Hampshire,
so that'd been long.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
But that was probably full of h Kevin McGonagall and
Maxpark doing lots of fun things and you yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Yeah, I like what Collins out here. Yeah, series has that.
Maxus are manic mentality absolutely Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Maybe intensity is a better word than hot head.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Yeah yeah, if your nickname is psycho sears, I think that.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Yeah, just why I'm gonna crush through like an old
Steers sign, just like stuff like that. But uh no,
and the other the biggest takeaway from the Weekend two
was that Kevin mcgonagal just kem be and Kevin McGonagall
and the All Star Like I said this last week
(20:21):
the live broadcast with the guys from Over would ward
that I think Kevin mcgonagal's gonna make it All Star
Game only because how rare is it that the last
Tiger to do is my Mark Rivergs is seventy six
in their rookie season, and plus it just seems like
that that's they don't want to do. Like I'm not
saying they don't want to do that, but then you
(20:41):
look at the numbers and you're just like, well, ship,
if they ignored it, that would be pretty pretty uh upsetting.
But you know, go ahead, Chris Well.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
I mean, I know the people in the n AL
are upset that they're like Cardinals fans are upset that J. J.
Weatherhol did not make the All Star team. He has
you know, by f war, he's actually been better than McGonagall.
So but yeah, like I wonder if there was a
little bit of that, like they knew it was in Philadelphia.
He's a he's a Delco kid, drinking his water at
games when he was young, yeah, yeah, but yeah, so
(21:13):
it's it's awesome, right, and I think you know by
b War he's at like four point four yeah, which
is it's already like the third highest ever for a
Tiger's rookie hitter. I was just about to go look
at that, and it's been a while since I have
looked at it, so I was gonna check it again.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
But little little eight War season coming.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Yeah, just a remarkable, remarkable season. And it's like it's
it's getting boring at this point, not boring, like I'd
love to see it. He's on my fantasy team. He's
great fun. We watch him a lot, but it's like,
all right, so he got a hit in a walk
or two hits in a walk or two walks. He's
just on base constantly, and yeah, that's that's a great
foundation for the offense.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (21:49):
It also kind of it speaks to like who he
is and what he's like in the clubhouse that it
felt like the team was ready to kind of like
hand over some of the leadership brains to him almost
from the beginning of the season, you know, like every
he like learned pretty quickly, Like this dude is one
of the most professional hitters I've ever seen. You know,
we're gonna we're gonna ride him obviously, you know, Riley
has his part and Schooble has his part in that.
(22:10):
But yeah, Kevin's Kevin's kind of the man and everyone
seems to acknowledge it. And then Dylan Diingler became even
more of the man than he'd ever been before. I
didn't think that was possible, such a manly specimen, but uh, yeah,
the two of them have been incredible, you know. And
Riley's kind of like the slugger, you know, and it
was in the lineup and just like hits Forth and
you know, he's like the prints of this group now
(22:30):
or something.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
But yeah, it's it's such a such a strong trio.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
And you know, if they could yeah, I mean, you
just don't know what this team is capable of, if
they could just get like a couple of the weaknesses
short up, because they've just undercut themselves so bad all
season long. But very cool for Kevin to get in there,
and it probably feels good to be, you know, on
the player's ballot. You know, the fan ballot has kind
of become ever more nonsensical over the last few years.
But you know, to get in on the player's ballot
shows you know, quite a bit of respect. And I
(22:55):
still think, you know, the way things work out, and
you know, usage and injuries and stuff, it's not impossible
that maybe Casey Mayes might get the call at the
last second, you know, to like pigeon inning or something
like that. We'll we'll see, maybe one of them will
sneak in there. But I think we'd all just as
well like leave those guys and let them rest and
get them ready for the second half. Last year, you know,
going into the All Star Break was like the natire
(23:16):
of the season, like it just turned everything around and
they went the heck immediately after.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
So maybe maybe they run up to the All Star
Break this year will kind of prove the reverse.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
That would be a very welcome surprised if they could
like definitively answer the question of what they're supposed to
do at the end of this month.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
You know, it's probably gonna be hard to do that.
One way or the other.
Speaker 6 (23:36):
They're still going to be in some kind of a
gray area, I would assume, even if things go well.
But you know, someone asked earlier, like do we think
they're going to trade Schoogle in mis Wolf.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
It's really hard to say.
Speaker 6 (23:47):
I've written like I've written like the first half of
like ten different articles, you know, like definite, like no,
it's time, they've got to do this or that, and yeah,
they just kind of keep raining the end and you
just kind of want to keep giving it a little
more leash and see what they can do. But they're
obviously gonna have to finish the first half strong here
and and come out and look pretty good, you know,
after the All Star break, and then maybe you can
(24:07):
start thinking a little bit differently. But right now, I
still kind of feel like they probably should trade both
of them, to be honest, I know, you know, I
know that's that's that's harsh. That's harsh medicine for the
fan base. And I could be wrong because they could
go nuts. You know, we saw him like play unfathomably
bad for two months last year for that switch. Sure,
because baseball is madness and no one can predict it.
(24:28):
So it's okay to kind of like let it, let
it play out a little bit longer, and we'll see
what happens.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
You know.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
I have I have a message for Scott Heres specifically
because he hasn't been out in a while. I haven't
seen him or anything, and I from I understanding he
hasn't been around. I have a message for sky Hears.
It's a it's a good it's a good message. Okay, Look,
I don't know where you're lurking at right now. You
might be watching right now, I don't know, but I'm
gonna look right in the camera right now and say this. Okay,
you've had three homegrown talents. It's the All Star Game. Okay,
(24:54):
one of them you drafted. Okay, it's okay to do
a victory lap right now. I understand his fan base
doesn't like you right now because this fan base thinks
you're snotty, ahole or whatever the case is. I don't know,
because sometimes I don't understand his fan base, and I
don't try to argue with him anymore because it's quite frankly,
it's a fruitless exercise. I just do what I can,
(25:15):
and I want fans and I want everybody to be
my goal. Whatever I write something is for somebody to
learn something and to share opinion, whether I like it
or not. We're all here to agree to disagree, that's it.
But look, here's you made history. Okay, first pick, first draft,
or excuse me, first rookie since nineteen seventy six, and
(25:36):
I rockly enough Mark Fiverige gets where the All Star
Game was in seventy six Philadelphia. So right there is historical.
The first time that you have positional players, not just pictures,
positional players for the first time more than one, more
more than two rather three since nineteen eighty five. Take
a FM boo. Dude, go out there. Look, I know
(25:57):
it might be hard for you right now. And I
know where whatever woods he like, you know, background or
of what it looks like wood paneling wherever you're at
right now, But take a bow, dude, take a bow.
It's okay, it's okay. Look, this team's unachieving, but everybody
you have run different twelve eleven. The bullpen has been awful.
Yes you can. You certainly deserve whatever happens to the bullpen.
(26:20):
And there's a couple you know in Wassuit go is
now in Minnesota and mass Illegers and the Mets and
all that stuff. To look, that's another thing you should celebrate.
Teams want your talent. Teams want your talent. Okay, Jim
Jarvis is up there. I was the guy Jarves. Jarves
has been in Atlanta now the Tigers as much as
as much as people want to give the Harris crap,
(26:42):
some of it's deserve, some of it's not. The Tigers
are have something. They have a special player in Kevin McGonagall,
the guy Tea's golf shop. Like he can literally watching
him swing some time. Just take that one like little
pop up right over the left center. He's doing things
that I used to annoy the crap out of me.
Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwalma, do we have a player
(27:03):
like that? The Tigers have a player like that. Celebrate
go out there. I know you don't eat meat, but
go out there, maybe have a steak or something, you know,
do something different.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
He doesn't eat meat. We know that confirmed.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I'm not confirmed. I've heard. I've heard that he's a vegetarian,
you know.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
All that, all that nice stuff. He said. I think
you just undercut him with like ninety.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
Sorry sorry, sorry, Scott, Yeah, I know. Like, Look, if
you're Scott Harris, you need to stay hidden right now.
Always a tiger now, always a tiger. Look, the bottom
line is, why should he stay hidden? For this, go out,
take a celebration, go look my bad. I you know,
which is like? So I thought what I said, which
is connection? I should cut? I thought about what I said,
(27:49):
which is connection, I should cut?
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Look.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Bottom line is this he is Harris is better than Yeah,
as Tony said, here, Tony's better. He was in Rainy
Smith was look Ray Smith like, I want to do
a whole Look, I'm gonna do a whole like historical
piece on Ndy Smith and do a video thing. That
wasn't his fault. He deserves a lot of the blame.
(28:12):
But we'll get to that another day, another time, another day. Listen,
I'm gonna just finish this up.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
Okay, but let me just quickly acknowledge the Mark Davis
Salisbury Hill by Peter Gabriel reference, because yes.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Okay, oh it's okay. I you know what I I
got sick of hearing that song because I used to
play it all the time, and Peter Gabriel is a
much deeper collection he does.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
It's super deeper, deep, so deep.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
That song for a lot of reason got a lot
of radio playing CSX in town. Yeah, thank you, Mark,
Thank you Mark. Sorry about that. That was a Peter
Gabriel reference I did not get and no, I like, yeah,
I don't like uh, you know, I just like I
do like other songs. Sledgehammer so a song he did
with Kate Bush is pretty cool too. Anyway, So what
(28:56):
I'm trying to say is, essentially, if your hair is
take take a beating for a minute. The press and
also the president. I'm trying to protect you. Another thing
that the narrative out there understand, you know. Yeah, like look,
yeah Collins, like, I'm not sure there's defending drafting relief
picture first overall, I did an article about why he
(29:18):
did because he really didn't have a choice. But again, the.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Agents and yeah, bridges and all sorts of stuff.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Yeah, there was a lot. There was play there anyway.
Point is skoy hairs, take a bow. It's okay, take
a bow. Readers not gonna eat jeff Reyer's not gonna
eat you alive. I'm sure that, you know. Look, Evan
Petzel retired. Now he's doing weird. You know, he's working
for the henry Ford Health System. Now it's okay, it's okay,
come out, take a bow for what just happened.
Speaker 6 (29:50):
All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna say he already kind
of did when they signed him.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
So you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna call it.
Speaker 6 (29:56):
I'm gonna call it good with that, you know, because
that's like, you know, when he when he signed that deal,
you know, Scott Harris rightly came out and was like,
you know, this is you know, the first draft, and
you know, we crushed it and we're so happy with
with Kevin and how well he's turned out, and he
kind of did all that. I kind of want to hear, like,
all right, what are you gonna do? What are you
gonna do right now to like sort this out and
give this team the best chance over the next twenty
(30:17):
five or probably less games than it is to get
it together.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
But I do like it.
Speaker 6 (30:21):
I mean, Scott Harris definitely deserves credit for that pick,
and he should take it because I'm going to continue
to nag him about literally every other small detail.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
And that's a huge win. That's a huge win to
get McGonagall.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
So yeah, no, so God, Chris.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Well, I just yeah, you're not You can't take a
bout right now.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
You don't do that.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
If you're Mark Connor, you can take a bow right like,
it's your job to scout and draft players, and they
got they had the third pick that draft.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
They've got the third best big.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Leigure so far out of that draft, by war, behind
Paul Skins and White Langford. Now Paul Skin's arm is
slowly falling off apparently, and White Langford keeps getting hurt.
So you know, mcgonagall's two years behind those guys. He'll
catch up to him and overtake him. They may have
drafted the best player in the draft. He sure looks
like that.
Speaker 6 (31:06):
So do we think Kevin is even close to peak
right here? I still think there's going to be like
plenty of twenty five home run seasons coming. It might
not be like immediate, but he's going to get.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
The bat and he may.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
You know, he's playing a pretty solid shortstop, and I'm
imagining that as the years go on and he starts
happening in more power, that's the defensive side of things
is going to go away. So he may not like
in terms of the war, yeah, but yeah, no, he
will have seasons where it's he's like in the MVP conversations.
I think, you know, as long as he stays healthy,
(31:40):
And they did, they really did do a great job
in that draft, at least in terms of the bats.
You know, we thought for a little bit that that
Ja Jade Ham might have been somebody. He was their
fifth round pick. Now he's just kind of fallen into
the Springfield mystery spot. But we talked about seriously, he
was their tenth rounder. He's going to be a big leaguers.
Seventh rounder. Paul Wilson's back. He looks like he's got
a good arm. You could see it. Now it's just
(32:01):
like it just strikes more strikes. But uh yeah, John Peck,
Brett Callahan, Jim Jarvis, we talked about Max Anderson's gonna
get to the big leagues. I don't know how long
he's gonna stay or what he's gonna do, but they
they got like seven big league bats out of that draft.
It's it's it's pretty remarkable, but yeah, you got to
do more. As a president. You can take a bow
(32:22):
for that, but you don't win awards for having great drafts.
Should look back at it and say like, oh, that
draft really founded you know, was the foundation for us
going on and winning stuff. But fans don't care. It's
like the Gaverage fan who's not us does it? Like
they they just want to see the team win. They
don't care how you know, nobody cared that Dobrowski didn't
(32:42):
draft or you know, sign Meglio Ordonia is sitting in
an aw free agent or signed Maguiel Cabrera although he did,
I guess in a different city.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
But just win, Just win.
Speaker 6 (32:53):
There's a lot more scrutiny now, so people are more
interested in the draft. But yeah, like this this point
in time in the season where the Tigers are, Yeah,
it's just like when that's all I feel like too, like,
you know, get after it, like to figure this thing
out in the bullpen, try to make a run and
then do some smart trade and then get us stocked
up with some pitching for next year one way or
(33:14):
the other. Even if you if you trade one of them,
if you trade both, if you trade Jack and Casey
and keep whatever you whatever you're gonna do you're gonna need.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
And stops up pile some pitching. But also a couple
of fielders would be nice.
Speaker 6 (33:28):
A right handed one because yeah, I'm loving my Brett
Callahan and I think that's gonna kind of work out
a little bit. But yeah, you're right, I mean, there
needs to be a right handed bat added the outfield.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
That's legit, you know, in all respects. Yeah, you know,
and Bell Jerry's done a decent job so far, but
I don't think it's him.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
So yeah, no, And look Tiger's and Lions forever. He says,
Tiger's being the five games out of the wild card.
Wouldn't give up the season.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Now.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
I don't think we're giving up. We just you have
to look according to Jeff Passon which he said eighty
five percent that Tarrek School is gonna trade, which means
what the hell is the other fifteen percent?
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Like you know, you know, on this roadtra or this home,
Like there's I remember a couple of years ago, maybe
with last year, praising the Marlins for they were playing
well at the deadline. They had guys they could trade,
but they didn't. They just kind of were like, let's
just play baseball. Let's have Now the Tigers have like
(34:23):
arguably two of the top trade of blassets on the market,
I mean probably three at the top or four of
the top twenty. Like the like there's there's a real
missed opportunity here if they don't trade. But at the
same time, Like I it wouldn't be the end of
the world to me if they stuck with it it,
went for it and made it run at it. Like
if they kept playing like they've played since the start
(34:44):
of June, that's fine, like it, maybe they make it,
maybe they don't. But you know, at some point you
got to go try to win games. You can't just
constantly be churning and trying to rebuild. But at the
same time, you know, if they go one in five
on this homestand or zero to six or up mofl
two and four, even three and three like it, you know,
at a certain point you've got to cash in. So
(35:07):
it just just a matter of if they can put
together continued winning baseball.
Speaker 6 (35:11):
Yeah, I mean, at a minimum you do probably get
two compicks, But I I don't even want to like
think about that because I just I'm like, I know,
I brought it all up last week and was just
just talking about how much uncertainty there is, Like those
compicks should still be there, you know, and the qualifying
offer is going to be there to be used until
the CBA expires at the beginning of December.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
But you know what if next season all gets washed out.
Speaker 6 (35:33):
I don't want to hear about any of that, like
you know, trade for trade for some good prospects, if
that's what you're gonna do. But yeah, right now, it's
just a fact of like having to keep two tracks
on in our brain, like how are they going to win?
Speaker 1 (35:45):
And you know what, what are they going to.
Speaker 6 (35:47):
Do as far as the future, And unfortunately they're not
they're not together yet, They're still they're still kind of
on parallel tracks, and we don't really know how it's
going to turn out. But you know, I mean, if
they happen to get waxed and lose five to the
next six, like you know, I'm selling immediately. And you know,
so we have to we have to keep in mind
that we are on a real fine line here, even
though the Tigers have played better and we all know
(36:08):
the Tigers are a better, better team than the record
for sure. You know, we also saw that with scoobl
and Mins out their starting rotation wasn't the problem either,
so you know, you have to keep that in mind.
You know, like they might be able to get in
any way. It's just that you can't like pass up
that much trade value if you can get like two
really really good prospects for Schooble, just just to have
(36:29):
him in the postseason when maybe it matters more than
it normally would because you have an ace that you
can send out there to win you a game every
every couple of days, you know, twice per series. If
they want to trade Jack and Casey and keep Tark
for that reason and they can get something good for Casey,
all right, well that's that's a strategy too. But it's
just going to be you know, it's going to be complicated,
and it's going to be very telling on the rest
(36:51):
of Scott Harris's tenure, Like how he's able to handle this.
I think we can all at least agree on that,
much like the way the rest of the season plays
out is going to be crucial for how he looks
and and how the team is set up for years
to come.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
The by the way, Adam wanted to know why why
did we trade two pictures for cash? Well, both Wusako
and Matt Slinger had ability or mobile upward.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
Clause mobility clauses. He do you think there's most of these?
You see this a lot with minor league free agentsies
they have a clause in their contract that says, you know,
you have to either.
Speaker 5 (37:25):
Get me to the majors by this date or release.
Speaker 6 (37:28):
Me and so the Tigers or at least me to
the forty man. Yeah, so that they get paid like
a major leaguer almost.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Yeah, Tigers did neither, but they traded them to teams
who were willing to do that. So it's it's yeah,
you know, what's that go. I had a really rough
start this season, went down to Erie, got it figured out,
came back at Toledo.
Speaker 5 (37:46):
It has been one of their better relief firms.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Matt Celinger has been up and down a number of
times that he'll have these games where he's getting absolutely
bombed in other games where's he's lights out.
Speaker 5 (37:54):
Obviously these you know he's from New York.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
I think so the Mets grabbed them, and yeah, I
think Evan Evan Woodbury had a really nice, really good
tweet about that.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
Was like, you know, people like, hey, we need all
the bullpen arms we can get.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
He was like, you know, since since the start of June,
I think it's something like the Tigers have like the
sixth best bulkinny R whereas the Twins are like thirtieth.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
So yeah, somebody you try to call him out and
then he goes era is not the only thing, and
then Evan pointed out the s CIRA and all the
other stuff.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah yeah he stats.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Yeah, so so sorry, Motown Market, you got.
Speaker 5 (38:28):
It's very much.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
I don't know, you know, I follow a fair amount
of NBA people on Twitter for whatever reason.
Speaker 5 (38:35):
I don't remember why. All right, I care about the NBA,
but not that much.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
And there's this whole big analytics versus eye test stuff
going on in there, and it was it felt very
familiar to me. And it's all about Jalen Brown, the
guy the Celtics. You know, it's a sort of shooting guard,
small forward wing and how the analytics have him as
like the seventh best player on the Celtics and everybody's like,
are you insane? Like this is one of the top
toty players and it's just this whole big back and forth.
(39:01):
They're like, well, but this is what happens when he's
off the court, and it's like, yeah, wow, this feels
like Eric Cosmer, like fifteen years ago.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Yeah, yeah, how vamuable is Eric Cosmer's defense?
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Really?
Speaker 1 (39:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (39:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Why why was Jim Leland playing Eric Cosmer, uh for
Tmosa over Paul golds bit.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
Yeah, I you know, deadly Aninjuvie is.
Speaker 6 (39:20):
I mean, I kind of feel the same way. I'm
not going to predict it because I don't know what
the heck they're gonna do, but I just I just
have the feeling as usual that Scott heres has never
mete a decision that he wants to make until he
absolutely has to.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
So I don't know, we'll we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 6 (39:34):
But hopefully he's getting getting good advice and and they're
you know, they're ready to trade. Whether they do or not,
you know, obviously they should already be well deep into
their research on all the teams that might be buyers
and have it all dialed so you know.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
There's nothing to do but let it happen. We don't
have any control, so here we are.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Yeah, it's uh, yeah, it's I don't Here's the thing, like,
they're scout. They have scouts everywhere. We know, they have
scouts everywhere. They've been signing more into in the league
guys again because they're just trying to fill the ranks
as much as possible, and ultimately it really is as
far as like their chances are percentages. I really don't know.
(40:16):
I don't I think the media has a guess. I mean,
passing is really connected, I get it. But the Tigers
are like just Ninja's when it comes to keeping things
in the fold. Like, for example, we still don't know
what's wrong with Jaden Ham. We know he lose lose Velosi,
and that's it. That's all we know as far as
like injuries go and everything like that. Even like we'll
everybody see mechel Massey again, I don't know. There's a
(40:37):
lot of things that the Tigers do in secrecy, and
so whoever they have interested in. For example, if look,
I know this is a long shot, but if you're Baltimore,
if you're Baltimore is quote unquote competing If you know,
if you're if you're competing with like Baltimore's trying to compete,
what have you raid? Their firm system rate a system
that you can get a right handed pat out of
(40:58):
that is majorly ready. That is the one thing I require. Look,
if there's one thing that Tigers should Tiger fans should
ask for in requirement, bare minimum, it's a guy that
can come up and play tomorrow. That is it that
there's no guy in low way, there's a lottery ticket
kind of crab somebody.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
You should get the lottery tickets as a as a kicker.
But yeah, the main the main piece has to be
something like that. Yeah, and you know that there's the Brewers,
there's you know, there's the Rays.
Speaker 6 (41:25):
You know, if we get beyond like thinking of just
like the Dodgers because of the money, right, you know,
there's a lot of interesting farms systems to trade with.
Everybody's terrified to trade with the Rays. But the Rays
have so many good prospects generally that you know they
can afford. You know, they can afford to let a
few go, so you know, you can't be scared. You
have to go in there and get the right guy,
if you if that's who you're dealing with.
Speaker 5 (41:45):
And I think one thing, and I know I agree
with you, and I think they would target people that
can come in and play because they they've got a
nice chorus still even with losing some of these arms.
But I also think that you sometimes you do have
to treat it like the draft, right, and you're just
taking the best players who are made available to available
to you and We've seen teams like the Dodgers will
(42:09):
make trades and acquire prospects that they really liked into
the draft but couldn't draft. They just didn't get a
chance to get it.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
So they went out and got Mike Serota like immediately,
and he's a top one hundred prospect. And they went
out and was zayerro Hope. They did the same thing
with him and Jackson Ferris like they they target these guys.
So I'm sure there are guys out there who are
performing in the lower miners that the Tigers like who
they wanted to draft, and they couldn't go get those
guys too, if you really believe in you're scouting. But yeah,
it would help to have you know, a right handed
hitting shorts up come up. It's those those aren't really
(42:38):
in long supply, but you get the best deal you can.
Speaker 6 (42:44):
Yeah, I mean, you do have to get that about
I would. I would agree though that I at least
want like upper level guys. I want guys who you know,
might be circling the show next year and you know,
are in the mix with Peck and Califan and obviously
Clark will probably be there in Bersey, and you yeah,
I mean you'd like, you'd like to at least have
that stockpile. I don't really want to trade for a
bunch of Chris Rodriguez, No, you know, I.
Speaker 4 (43:06):
Just you know, well, yeah, no, I mean it's it's
one of the reason, right. So yeah, at this at
this time last year, Kevin McGonagall was in high A.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Hm.
Speaker 4 (43:14):
If there's a Kevin McGonagall out there that you can
go get in high A, go, yeah, this is guy's
he could be in the big leagues next year.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
You do it.
Speaker 5 (43:21):
But it's it doesn't necessarily.
Speaker 4 (43:23):
Mean you've got to go get a guy in triple A,
is all I'm saying. Yeah, if you've scouted these guys
and you believe in them. But again, Kevin mcgonagall's don't
grow on trees. He's got four point five war I saw,
which is already the fourth highest ever for a Tiger's
rookie BT, behind it also Jackson Dale Alexander Donny Bush
who had fifty four sacrifice or fifty two sacrifice butts
in nineteen oh nine.
Speaker 6 (43:44):
And I would say I would suggest too about the
outfielder thing too, Like, if you can get a right
handed hitting outfielder who is just an average hitter, but
as a good defender, I would love that. Yeah, Tiger
Tigers don't need like another pack of studs like you
know down the rest of the lineup, Like you you know,
you'd like that, you'd love to have a super or
stacking lineup. But if the if the last four guys
in the lineup were just roughly average players when used
(44:05):
in their proper platoon setting, we'd you know, we'd be
killing it.
Speaker 1 (44:10):
So yeah, we can keep that.
Speaker 6 (44:11):
In mind too, Like, you know, they're probably not going
to come away from this with a with an obvious
superstar for Tark School, Like that's that's not very reasonable
to ask for. But you know, you hope you get
the right guy that you can that you can turn
into that while getting like concrete help you know pretty soon.
And as far as like passing and what those guys
know and don't know, they're going to write about this,
you know, one way or the other, because they've been
(44:33):
writing about it in NonStop since you know, last offseason.
You know, it's it's a it's just a massive click generator.
And so I don't really think necessarily that any of
them has the faintest clue what Scott Harris is thinking
or what he's going to do. It's just, you know,
it's just an easy button for you know, for beat
writers who are busy and have to generate a certain
amount of traffic, and it's like, yeah, just keep going
(44:54):
back to the tark Schooble. Well, you know, and obviously
it's a it's a big story now. But I mean
they've been writing about it left and right, you know,
for for almost a year now, like now is the time,
like okay, now you can now you can have your
have fun, speculate as much to watch it.
Speaker 4 (45:08):
I did see them. I didn't see Hayman like you know,
talking about okay, the Mets are done. Now it's time
for them to sell everybody not named this, this, this, this, like,
well who do they have that?
Speaker 6 (45:16):
If people want, Yeah, well he's gonna we're gonna be
franking then door.
Speaker 2 (45:20):
Somebody mentioned Jake Menson, Carson Williams. But I mean he's
been striking out the three cent cliff. I mean, if
they can't, I don't see him trying to fix them.
I don't know if they can't fix them.
Speaker 4 (45:30):
No, I don't think there's fixing him unfortunate, Like he's
an elite defender and he could be one of those
guys who eventually figures things out to a certain degree
later in his career. But yeah, that's he's always had
tons of swing and missus game, going back to the
showcase circuit, Like it's just a part of who he is.
I'm I don't know, I don't know if there's fixing
guys like that. I can't think of somebody who who
(45:52):
went from like a huge strikeout guy to a guy
who does the strikeout so much you can fix it
to a degree, you know. The Twins got Willie cass
Strow to walk a little more and not strike out
quite as much. But it's still Yeah, like you said,
thirty's that's tough to he's more like thirty five percent.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
Yeah, thirty percent. Yeah, yeah, so yeah he's thirty five percent.
He's out there. What's interesting is speaking of Uh, you're
talking about Tiger X Twins, Cody somebody's talking about uh
if you know, like, uh, the Cody Clemens, Like, oh
why did we drop him? Guys? He was he was
perfect treated at Philadelphia. He didn't do anything here for
(46:29):
three years.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
Yeah, what do you mean?
Speaker 2 (46:31):
Sometimes you just it takes you while to find your place.
But I'm so sick of that damn narrative. Like somewhere else. Yeah,
two teams ago, right.
Speaker 6 (46:41):
Liam Hicks is a little bit different situation, But yeah,
like am I losing sleep over Ran Kreiler and and
Cody Clemens now, like they had tons of time to
like try to figure something out. You know, they're both
in their late twenties. Maybe they'll have a good year
or two. Fine, good for them. I'm happy they're not
they're not stars, they're you know, they're not killing us.
Speaker 1 (46:59):
So yeah, yeah, you know, it's you can't keep everybody.
Speaker 6 (47:02):
Yeah, you could take it as a good sign that
we're leaking you know, some some usable talent at least
I guess at this point.
Speaker 5 (47:09):
Yeah, go go find all the people who were begging
for Kreidler to stay, Like we always like Kreidler and
we wanted it to work out.
Speaker 4 (47:15):
It just didn't and he got to let go sometimes
and he's going and he's he's doing the reverse Nico Goodrum.
Speaker 6 (47:20):
Yeah, if they had let they let Ryan Croudler go
when I wanted him to let him go, then we'd
have Liam Hicks at first base part tack. There you go,
but that could have not worked out either because you know,
nobody really like was sure that was coming. You just
thought like, yeah, pretty good hitting catcher who probably isn't
good enough to catch for the Tigers, and that's probably
exactly what he is.
Speaker 5 (47:39):
But yeah, so uh.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
Going Toledo's leados week splitting with Iowa there on the
road this week against Indianapolis. Bet Callahan game winning hit,
almost hit the hit for the cycle the other day,
but just continues to make a very good impression all
over the system. And he is also Kennedy for Rule five,
(48:02):
so he's definitely pushing there. Max Anderson just doing being consistent.
Pitching wise, It's not really much to say about Toledo
right now at all. I mean, the hayesus is just adjusting.
But other than that, it wasn't anything that really stood
up to me.
Speaker 6 (48:20):
And to lead this week, Madden pitched really well for
the Tigers, and since he's gone back down, you know,
it feels like maybe he's just lost a little bit
of the mojo. You know, it might just be a
hard readjustment after he you know, probably felt like he
was breaking through, But I would just say wherever you
are time Eden, there's going to be need for you.
Speaker 1 (48:37):
Don't worry. You can get another chance this year.
Speaker 4 (48:39):
Yeah, you know the couple things I put in here.
Valencia has just been a steady power hitter since the
start of basically since mid April. He had the terrible
first two weeks and it's like a one thirty w quess.
Since then, hasn't really gone crazy hot like he did
at times last year. We've been very productive, so you
could see him coming up at some point if it,
(49:01):
you know, works out, and what I put there with
with Callahan and people are in case people are wanting.
Callahan is one of two players in minor league baseball
with thirteen homers, twenty five steals, and a walk rate
first strikeout rate you know, walk strikeout ratio of at
least zero point five, so he's got you know, half
as many walks of strikeouts. The only other one who's
on that list is host way to Paula, who's a
(49:22):
top ten prospect of baseball. He's also three years younger
and in Double A and has like a one point
five walk to strike out rate and hitting like three
twenty one, so he's very good. But Callahan is doing
big numbers in the miners this year, and it's worth
worth coorting out. We do it like every week, but
it's you know until till people I don't know. Once
(49:43):
once it gets to the big leagues, people will say, okay,
this works. And the other note I had down there
was was Tyler Madison, who I looked at it and
he's had two absolutely horrific.
Speaker 5 (49:53):
Outings this year.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
One we're giving five runs, one where you give up
six runs any total of one inning. In the rest
of his outings it's six and runs and thirty two innings.
Speaker 1 (50:03):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 4 (50:03):
So it's just like he'd like, he's he's still walking
too many guys, but the strikeouts are there. Nobody's really
getting hits against him for the most part. It's just, yeah,
I don't know, he's another one that's just gonna keep
tantalizing you and then it's probably not gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
Yeah, it does feel like he like would get a
look at at some point.
Speaker 6 (50:20):
Like what's funny is that if somebody else, some other
team cut Tyler Madison, we would pick him up a heartbeat. Yeah,
But because they have him, you know, he's just kind
of in the stash pile. You know, I can't quite
break through. I would love to give him, you know,
to see him and give him a shot. But you know,
see if feder can just do a little bit, a
little bit more with him. But let's see, he's he's
(50:42):
just hanging out there on the on the cusp blocked
by Jacob wagsback.
Speaker 1 (50:47):
Yeah, by himself has not been too baddy, No, it
has not been.
Speaker 2 (50:51):
No, he's been better than anticipated. Uh Seawoll's report. By
the way, I might have a chance to stop Tony
cup of Keelly tomorrow. Emily Walden is gonna be talking
to Peyton Gray, who had a really good week but
somehow got posed for not being the player of the week.
Speaker 4 (51:06):
With the Alfonso Rosario who was on Akron and went
ohen six. You know, Acron lost all six games. Eerie
won all six. But he did have a great week.
He had more. He had more home runs. Graham did
Indie home runs. Rosario had a couple of home runs.
But in maybe if great if Graham had played, he played.
He came in as a defensive replacement on Sunday's game
(51:27):
because Chris Meyers hurt his back. Yeah, I must put
that out because it was really gutsy, like he hurt
his back in the swing, and it was very clear
that the acro announcer is like, oh, he's got to
come out. And then he went swung again. He's like, oh,
he's hurt, he's got to come out, and then he
got a hit and he was feeling his back down
at first base. He's like, oh, he's got to come out.
And he never came out until after the inning, and
(51:48):
then they put Graham out there. So Graham had got
hit on the hand. I think I did to see
that he went back out there and he's fine, but like, yeah,
he could have had three more or four more hits
in that series if he hadn't gotten hurt.
Speaker 6 (52:00):
Yeah, And that's always scary because Graham, you know, kind
of has that history of like getting hit and like
something breaks, you know. So yeah, yeah, it was good
to see that he was right back out there to
be had. For Chris Myers though, you know, not not
a prospect, but uh but an interesting hitter and has
been on an absolute rampage you know prior, so you know,
had himself a hot couple of weeks and boom, he's
out which hurts Sery. Hurts hurts the offense because they
(52:23):
do need their power hitters. They don't have a whole
lot right now. Although Pennington's done a nice job since
he's come up.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Yeah he did a had a double the start things
going scoring on Friday and he was again. The Sea
Wolves with the steals, by the way, was soaking to Zach.
They are on the pace to break the team record
here in the net by the end of the month.
And with one hundred and eighty three steals and and
(52:50):
uh it looks like yep, Belgian scored again, looks like
so it's for one Belgium, but uh.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
No.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
The Sea Wolves also a really good start eleven and
one best so far among the affiliates so far. As
uh The other takeaway from the series start to just
the bullpen before the rings started was a little Sanchez
was a little Lassie was there, but it's just command
was all the way off correct, same thing, just lack
(53:21):
of consistency and his command stuff is where I see
a problem with him.
Speaker 6 (53:25):
Yeah, does have good stuff, but yeah, yeah, he at
least he's young though he's he's still what twenty three,
twenty four, so he's not like, yeah, has been trying to.
Speaker 1 (53:35):
Do this for a while, like Mark Marco Hamennez as well.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
So yeah, speaking of which, he's back on the rehabit trail,
and so he could be an erie. I'm not sure
if he's gonna end up in a erea Jake Miller.
I think Miller might be is milking end up in
an area or Toledo. It's a good question.
Speaker 5 (53:51):
That doesn't much.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
He pitched well in West Michigan, So I don't know,
if I don't know, I just feels more Likesler's roster
shuffling right now more than like they're putting them. But
you would think they would make a spot for him.
Speaker 6 (54:05):
He's on the forty man, yeah, yeah, and he's he's
got to be rehabbed by now.
Speaker 5 (54:09):
Yeah. Fully, so.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
Yeah, we'll see, We'll see what happens here with that.
Let's go to West Michigan against Lake County. They had
the Way County game on on Friday in the in
the stands with the rain out the way it's going,
Bryce Rainer Christ talk about the Bryce render stat that,
like you were talking about discord, just the amount of
strike ups back.
Speaker 4 (54:30):
Yeah, yeah, I mean he had like so far in July.
It's like he's like three for fifteen with like ten
strikeoups or something like that. It's like, uh and and
it's a mix of called strikes and swinging and missing.
But you know, we know that's just gonna be part
of his game. I think Brandon made the nice like,
(54:50):
you know, kind of Riley Green at shorts dot Com
a few episodes back, and we've seen Riley Green go
through these status stretches where it's just like, what what's
going on? Why can't you hit the ball? And then well,
he's still crushing the ball when he hits it. You know,
it's still one hundred and twelve min an hour line
drives to the left center somehow. So I'm not too
worried about it. It's just like, you know, as Roger
you were saying, like people were calling for him to
(55:10):
go up to erie and you know, just settle down.
It's okay, they'll be time.
Speaker 6 (55:16):
Yeah, let him let him cook, let him just just work.
I mean, once again, this is like he's at like
game one hundred and ten out of high school. So
he's doing just fine, and yeah, giving him time to
you know, keep it, keep adapting to that level.
Speaker 1 (55:30):
As much as possible is good.
Speaker 6 (55:32):
Maybe maybe maybe they'll move him up to erie and
challenge him at the end of the year and try
to give him that sort of you know, slight punch
in the face before you go into the off season,
like Okay, you're gonna you got to step it up,
you know, to handle handle this next level and you
see what it's like up here. But mostly that's just
about lefties to me, like just seeing more more good
left at handers when he gets up to double A
and that that will certainly be a challenge for him.
Speaker 1 (55:54):
So yeah, well'll see how it plays out.
Speaker 6 (55:56):
But you know, he's doing fine, you know, considering how
he's doing compared to the levels of panic in April.
Like I hope everybody's kind of learned, Like your prospects
are kind of like this, Like you you know, when
it all comes together, you oftentimes you won't have any question,
but you won't see it coming either, Like they'll have
the same issue for two years and then all of
a sudden, you know, they deal with it and boom,
(56:18):
so you just never know.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
Yeah, it's uh, yeah, there's no rush for it. I
really don't think there should be a Russian yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (56:27):
You know, Patrick Lee had one of those weeks who
you're like, many, why why are they Why is this
kid an or guy? Why are they treating like an
or guy? Like there's just the tools are just there.
Speaker 1 (56:37):
But monstrous tools.
Speaker 4 (56:38):
Yeah, is you know, we'll see that they've there must
be something underlying that they just don't believe in. But
also Lucas Elisol had his best start with West Michigan
and he's been good. You see, I put it there.
He's been good since the start of June, basically two
in a quarter e ra over his last twenty four
Inx pitch. It seems to be he seems to be
figuring some things out, which is great to see because, yeah,
(57:01):
he was one of the more exciting pitching process headed
to this year and it's.
Speaker 5 (57:03):
Just been a bumpy road for him. But what you
want to say, you want to see.
Speaker 1 (57:07):
Development like this, Yeah, yep, he's looked good.
Speaker 6 (57:10):
Meanwhile, Jacobs is kind of going through his own like
bumpy stretch where he's been a little wild in a
few outings and just just hasn't really been able to
spot the spot the fastball and start everything off that
a couple of times, so you know, that's just that's
just part of the part of the process for the
most part, the one who's driving me, who's just killing
me those rain or castile because man, it just seems
like anytime an outing starts to go bad, it just spiral,
(57:33):
like you just cannot quite like lock it lock it
back down for any length of time. But you know,
he's not wasn't a major prospect in the in the
first place. Just one who's young and interesting and has
such easy gas that you figure the command will eventually
show up and they can teach him some some stuff.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
But you know, get the get the slider going. But yeah,
it's been kind of a disappointment there so far.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
Yeah, it was nice, Chris, I would say it was
nice to see, you know, Charlie Christensen came up and
had a rough first outing, but he looked like his
old self in this second outing, which was nice to see. Like,
you know, he walked a bunch of guys at that
first point, You're like, what's going on? Yeah, throwing strikes,
getting the strikeouts missing, you know, not giving up a
(58:15):
ton of hard contact.
Speaker 1 (58:16):
So I did watch some of the bad one and
his uh strikes strikes on was terrible for that.
Speaker 5 (58:21):
Chris was not good.
Speaker 2 (58:23):
No, it was.
Speaker 4 (58:23):
It was especially at the beginning, and then then he
started losing it. I think when he was up like
you know, like twenty eight twenty nine pitches in the inning,
I was like, yeah, okay, I get it.
Speaker 5 (58:30):
But yeah, again, this is what it's for. That's what
the minor league is for. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
No, you just got to try things out and see
what happens and go from there. And as far as Ricardo,
her title goes to the same thing, like just I'm
still I'm I'm on title watch too, Like I think
he's still there's something. There's something there. It could be
a late developing thing, but we'll see.
Speaker 6 (58:53):
Well, I mean there's I always I always feel good
about the Tigers developing a catcher. Like it may it
might take a few years, but you know, if you
have a guy who's stoked about playing catcher and has
like just enough raw tools to do it and it's hitting, yeah,
keep them there and yeah, maybe maybe the whole package
kind of comes together over the next few years.
Speaker 4 (59:13):
And that's a guy who has really taken to play discipline,
which is kind of like we talked about, you know,
not necessarily speaking that, but he's he's made a huge
leap forward in terms of taking walks and not striking
out as much. It's it's really impressive. Yeah, it's just
looking at it real quick to see what the numbers are.
(59:33):
Last year it was an eight point four percent walk
right and twenty six point sent strikeout right. This year
seventeen point seven percent walk walk right and three point
six percent walk strikeout right. So still twenty plus strikeout rate,
but down three percent while moving up a level. I
don't know, it's it's pretty impressive to me.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
Yeah, you don't hear that very often anymore or not.
It's not common that a guy just suddenly can walk
like that. Yeah, we were just talking about that earlier.
Like it's hard for a I want to say, bird
to change your feathers.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
But what are the things?
Speaker 6 (01:00:07):
Yeah, one of the things that's interesting so often in
the minor leagues is you see like something that that
that a guy needs to do, and you think to yourself, like,
why doesn't he just like go to the most exaggerated
degree with it, because these games don't matter, but the
games do matter to them, And that's always that's always
the trick because I've been kind of begging, like, like,
why isn't Max Clark just like running NonStop to get
ready for the major leagues, Like you should be trying
(01:00:28):
to steal every base possible. You know, I don't care
if he's getting thrown out, you know for the mud hens.
But you know they're still trying to teach him to
you know, bed you just judicious with you know where
he runs and you know, working on reading pictures and
all that kind of stuff. But I still kind of
feel like a little bit like run more, Max Clark,
just try it. This is this, this is the spot
(01:00:49):
for you to just play with like total abandon and
and everyone will be mad at you, like, oh, he
got thrown out here and he did this and that,
and then you can come up to the major leagues
and he just dial it back one notch and you'll
you'll be good to go. But you you know, you
have to play at the max extent of your abilities,
you know, at some point to try and try and
kind of get used to the feel of playing at
that speed. And yeah, I would like to see Clark
(01:01:11):
do that. So you know, when someone like Kurtato is like,
you know what, I'm just gonna stop swinging at anything.
Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
I don't like.
Speaker 6 (01:01:17):
That's that's a hard thing to make yourself do so
when you're not, like, you know, naturally sort of oriented
that way.
Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
So yeah, it's been pretty impressive, by the way.
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
Uh was it the I was gonna I lost my
train of thought now, Oh man, I was gonna say something,
and I've lost my train of thought. Damn it, damnit.
It was about the It was about the steals. I
think the Tigers are going to emphasize you.
Speaker 5 (01:01:43):
Oh no, I remember what.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
Now, Maybe Clark does not want to happen with Bryce
Wayne or cold Keith diving back to the diving back
to the first place and jamming their shoulder.
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
Yeah, yeah, that they have had a problem with that. Yeah,
cold Keith too, right.
Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Yeah, I said Keith and uh and Rainers. So maybe
that's why he doesn't want to do it. And yeah, look,
if Clark doesn't want to run because of that, all means.
Speaker 6 (01:02:08):
Ye maybe yeah, maybe that is a little bit of
a of an element to it is. Yeah, they don't
they don't really want him to get banged up.
Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
I don't know, maybe, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Uh So Chris found a really good stat here on
Jordan Yost Chris talk about the the w r C
plus Jordan Yost, but what he's been able to do
walkwise to strikeouts.
Speaker 4 (01:02:28):
Yeah, you know, it was just something we've talked about
him a little bit and and you know it's it's
just thinking about the draft coming up, right and how
he was viewed as it's kind of a reach, like
this is like, oh, you know, this is this is
not a guy who's a necessarily he wasn't a first
round pick on any of the public boards.
Speaker 5 (01:02:46):
Uh, but you you see very much what the Tigers
liked about him, and it's there.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
It's it's the bat. The ball is pretty good, the
eye is excellent. He's he still needs to get stronger,
and and those walks are going to go down to
strike up, They're gonna go up if he doesn't, because
will just challenge him.
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:03:02):
But you know, he had a I was watching the
other day. He had I think an eleven pitch at
bat where he just got in a swing mode unfortunately,
and like he folllowed off like seven straight file up
pitches and then swung it one that was like, you know,
half foot above the zone, which he should have you know,
taken for a walk, but it was just a really
impressive like just following off everything the pitcher gave to him.
It's like, yeah, this is this is an advanced approach
(01:03:24):
for a guy who is a legitimate shortstop and he's
got above average to plus speed. He's another guy who's
not running a ton, but I can see him doing
that more as he gets more comfortable. He's like eight
for eight on steel attempts, so he's he's getting him
when he goes. It's not going very often, and it's
just yeah, it's it's an impressive thing to see a
young kid with with that idea of the strike zone.
(01:03:45):
And so I was looking, how many more do and
it's yeah, it's not many. There's two of them are
like kind of monster young prospects, one of which is
in the Complex League, So if you want to count
that or not, so yeah, it just, uh, I want
to point out one of the the good things that
are happening with some of the last year's draft picks.
Speaker 1 (01:04:04):
Yeah, and I mean, yeah, this is kind of going
the way we hoped it would.
Speaker 5 (01:04:07):
For Yost.
Speaker 6 (01:04:08):
I don't remember like how big a fan of the
pick guys, you guys were, but I don't know. I
never felt bad about it at all. It seemed like
exactly their dude, and everybody underestimated what mcgonagall's power potential
was going to be like.
Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
And I definitely think the same story could prove true here.
Speaker 6 (01:04:23):
You know, they've had pretty good success developing bat speed,
like that's one of the things that the Tigers do
seem to be able to do reasonably well, while you know.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
We could point out some areas where their development.
Speaker 6 (01:04:34):
Is kind of lagged, but yeah, I mean I kind
of am willing to bet on that, Like you know,
I kind of bet on that with Peyton Graham and
he's still skinny his rail and even though he's added
some muscles, so you never know how these are things
are going to fully play out.
Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
But yeah, I'm pretty happy with Yo's progress.
Speaker 6 (01:04:48):
And yeah, I think he's probably gonna end up being
a ten to fifteen home run guy who plays good
shorts up and controls the bat and the strike zone
pretty well, so that'll be fair.
Speaker 1 (01:04:58):
Probably not a superstar he is.
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
He is taller than McGonagall and he's a different body
than Graham and Haydin. I would say it's it's like
very broad shoulders for a kid that's skinny, and you
could you could see him packing on fifteen twenty pounds
of muscle one day. He's nineteen and a half, yeah,
you know, three and a half years from now, he'll
be twenty three and he'll probably be a lot stronger,
(01:05:21):
and he could be a very interesting prospect. So yeah,
like you said, I think it's tracked perfectly right now
for what they took. And yeah, we'll see what happens
to you. It's got to keep keep doing it. But
it's pretty strong pro debut.
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
Honestly, I didn't know what to expect when the draftsonam
last year. I just remember the first reaction we had
was the lack of tape that was out there on them.
Speaker 6 (01:05:43):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, And it was kind of you know,
and it was kind of a shock because like most
of the national writers were immediately like.
Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
Oh, that's not who we would would have thought.
Speaker 6 (01:05:52):
You know, would be up there, And that's just their
natural reaction and nothing wrong with that, you know, but
obviously they're not necessarily going to be right or they'd
be work for the teams, So you know, yeah, that's
not a shot, you know, it's just you know, we
kind of knows it's a hard business to be right
in from outside from inside with all the data possible
and all that.
Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Let alone from from outside.
Speaker 6 (01:06:12):
So I have to say, too, Michael Olivetto looks really
damn good to me too, Like that's a good looking
young hitter.
Speaker 1 (01:06:17):
To me, I don't know if he's going to catch
or not.
Speaker 5 (01:06:19):
But you know, well, so I'm just uploading now a
start from today.
Speaker 4 (01:06:25):
I don't know how long it'll take to get up
there from Carlos Rodriguez, but it's Carlos Rodriguez starting in
the FCL with Olivetto catching, and so you can get
a look at how he you know, as a receiver.
They never they didn't get any guys on base, and
they didn't try him, you.
Speaker 5 (01:06:39):
Know, try his arm.
Speaker 4 (01:06:40):
I think he gave up like nine steals and it
gave the other day. But yeah, the FCL, everything is
like who knows that the pictures were even paying attention. Yeah, yeah,
I mean I feel like he's he hasn't quite found
his swing yet, but it's you know, he missed. He
didn't played all last year.
Speaker 5 (01:06:55):
He missed the first three.
Speaker 4 (01:06:56):
Months of the season basically, so he's still trying to
get his swing, and we saw it with some the
other guys in their first couple of weeks and the
f c L like Dila Santos and stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:07:05):
Took him a little bit to get on track.
Speaker 6 (01:07:07):
But yeah, yeah, so and just to wrap up Lakeland,
we got Bersanio probably almost back, you know, to return
to Erie and then we'll see what they do do
with them there. But yeah, nice to see, nice to
see Wilson there and yeah, wet whiska, you know, it's
just getting his feet wet wet again after after being
(01:07:28):
back in there.
Speaker 1 (01:07:28):
But but just good to have him back on them out.
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
Yeah, he had a nice first inning and then the
second inning fell apart on him, which is, uh, this
is what again, This is what the little miners are for.
Speaker 5 (01:07:37):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:07:38):
But yeah, we like we like wet whisky stuff. So
we'll see how.
Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
Yeah, Chris Marrigez will probably get a call up after this,
possibly possibly to get a bit wet in Lakeland. Possibly.
Speaker 5 (01:07:47):
You know, it was interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
Season.
Speaker 6 (01:07:50):
I'm sorry, when does the season end? Just to be clear, Yeah, okay, yeah,
oh right.
Speaker 5 (01:07:54):
Up there, the uh okay, all right, so our video
is up. We can watch it if we want to.
Speaker 4 (01:08:02):
But I was looking, you know, they were playing the
Phillies today and I just was noticing the ops's of
the Tigers hitters compared to the Phillies hitters, Like, hey,
they actually have a bunch of guys performing in the
Complex League for I don't remember, like, you know, they've
had guys do this before. You know, Percee, you know,
obviously had a great Complex season and Mantilla and stuff.
But like up and down the lineup, like Christian Perez,
(01:08:24):
I don't even know if he's a prospect. Yeah, he
was a guy we'd liked like four years ago and
he's still only twenty twenty one. I think he's having
a monster season down there, like tons of power. Ronald
Ramirez is having a crazy good season, you know, I
held Del Sentos is having a good season.
Speaker 5 (01:08:40):
Chris Rodriguez is having a fine season.
Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:08:42):
He I looked at it. I think I tweeted this
out too, that he had five walks through the first
thirty games or something like that, and he had like seven,
you know, like a five game span. So yeah, you know,
again walks in the rookie level. Who knows who cares,
But yeah, the offense done there is really intriguing. Madero
has been hitting oliveto looks good, so yeah, puts interesting
guys down there. The more Battista just came back. Now,
(01:09:04):
he was the guy who spent two years in the
DSL and he immediately started hitting. So yeah, I don't know.
We'll see. Maybe they've they've figured something out on the
international front.
Speaker 6 (01:09:13):
Unfortunately, we've even got a got a backup Pinto down
there too, yest, Yeah, I goo.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
So Adam says he's been watching FCL games like YouTube.
Thanks to your tip, it's been in rough watch. But
I have the roster list and most of the time
I tell who I'm looking at. Yeah it is, oh,
go ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:09:28):
Baseball's awful. It's it's worse. It's worse than DSL.
Speaker 4 (01:09:32):
Like every time I go in and I look, I'll
be like, oh wow, the the DSL Tigers two scored
for runs anying what happened and it's like four walks,
a bock, two wild pitches.
Speaker 5 (01:09:41):
It like it was like, oh well, nothing to post.
It is a highlight.
Speaker 6 (01:09:46):
They started up writing up a game like oh it
was twelve to you know, they beat him twelve to two.
It was an offensive explosion and then you start digging.
Oh no, no, oh god, no, there was a it
was an eight run inning with three hits.
Speaker 4 (01:09:59):
So yeah, yeah, they you know, Jan and Koba really
really rough a couple of really nasty outings in a row.
We saw a little bit of that last year towards
the end of the the DSL season. Who knows, he's
a smaller guy. He faces the Yankees every time he pitches,
so like, I don't know how much you know Ryan Hall,
(01:10:19):
we saw him pitch. I think on one of the days.
It's you know, not going up runs. That's a good start,
going Hall up and down. Zack Swanson got out there,
Tevin Trouble's throw strikes. It's it's mostly just nice to
see all these guys pitch, right, Like.
Speaker 6 (01:10:31):
Yeah, also see to get stretched out, get some reps,
you know, by the end of the year, and hopefully
have a healthy season, and then that will start next
year and then see, uh yeah, see what they can
really do.
Speaker 5 (01:10:41):
But yeah, I did put that Carlos Rodriguez start up.
Speaker 4 (01:10:44):
Roger and I were talking about a little bit earlier
today because he's a guy that I think, first I
think Frangrass pointed him out, is a Tiger's prospect, and
he's a lefty with pretty athletic delivery. It's a little
bit like a higher slot for a left handed guy.
But he was touching ninety five. He's a twenty year old.
A couple of different breaking balls. I don't know, Like
he seems like he has a curveball at like seventy eight,
(01:11:06):
seventy nine, and like a slider at like eighty three.
Speaker 5 (01:11:08):
Maybe it's the same breaking ball. He just kind of.
Speaker 4 (01:11:10):
Manipulates it, has a change up, throw a fair amount
of strikes. It's an interesting arm done there any lefty
they can hit ninety five at twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
Yeah, you know it works for me and throw strikes
for the most part.
Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
Yeah yeah, then yeah, DSL numbers. The one guy I
did want to point out, it's Santiago Ventura, who hadn't
played yet, and then his first two professional at bats
he hit home runs. Wait a minute, do we have
the natural here? What's going on? And then you know
he's got a couple of walks in the steel in
his next game. Only play two games, but it's like,
(01:11:43):
all right, that's nice. I had to introduce yourself to
pro ball.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
Yeah, really.
Speaker 6 (01:11:47):
I had never heard him before. I never heard of him,
so yeah, that was cool. Addax Long can't be a
real name.
Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
I don't know. Man, Baseball's full of them.
Speaker 4 (01:11:56):
Where did they sign him from? Because yeah, he was
an indie ball guy, wasn't he Maddix Long?
Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
If we can we get a Madix Martinez.
Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
Maddix Long six five s five, Wow, I'll take that.
I went went to Harding University, then I cheat a
Baptist University, then the University of Arkansas.
Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Rich Mountain Mountain, Dig Mountain.
Speaker 4 (01:12:18):
Yeah, and now he's in the FCL Takers was playing
for the Washington wild Thing the Frontier League.
Speaker 5 (01:12:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:12:25):
Now, I had a good time this last weekend because Thursday,
Friday and Saturday I was at a lake with some
old friends and like some of their kids and all
that kind of stuff. And one of my buddies has
a fourteen year old son, Marshall, who's a pitcher and
plays short staphs and stuff. So I've like seen him
like every other year, you know, or every summer, you know,
for a couple of years, and he just keeps getting
stronger and stronger, and like, has this all this stuff
(01:12:46):
figured out?
Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
And I was.
Speaker 6 (01:12:47):
I was kind of talking to about Pedro Martinez, like
rippork and all that, and he's like, oh, yeah, yeah,
I do that. I was like, what so, yeah, it
was fun. He's throwing like a perfect gyro slider. I
was like, how hard do you throw it. He's like,
he's like, I can maybe touch eighty. And I was like,
all right, well, don't try any harder. Just Chilli at fourteen.
But he looks like he just like his frame and
his face and hair and the whole thing looks like
Tory Melton. It's kind of freaking me out. I was like, oh, mane,
(01:13:10):
maybe we might have something.
Speaker 5 (01:13:12):
Yeah. Melton didn't start throwing really hard until senior in
high school.
Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
Right, yeah, he was catching and.
Speaker 4 (01:13:17):
Even then it was like really hard, was like touch
ninety four or something like that. Yeah, ninety nine that
we're seeing now.
Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
So the to end the podcast too real quick. So
the Tigers have a three game series starting with the
A's before they the last games of the homestand before
they take on the Phillies to another potential suito team
to trade to, because you know, you know, with ding
from Browski, Tigers also have like it feels like some
Tigers have, like their their systems. They like and and
(01:13:46):
and guys that they are they're they're targeting, so who
knows that they're talking to somebody in Philly, although their
system is kind of garbage right now, as far as
I'm concerned, Gat, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:13:54):
You know it's the Bowski, So you might be getting
Andrew Payter out of it.
Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (01:13:58):
Can we get Andrew Paynter for K because I'd probably
doesn't do that and see how it goes.
Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
I don't know if that's possible. He's got a lot
of issues, but uh, still pretty dang talented too.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
I would wouldn't mind that whatsoever. The So as far
as that goes, Tigers have Derek scuobl Bobblehead Day tomorrow.
So if I was just there, there are two bobbleheads,
and if you know what's gonna happen, if you get
the quicker, you can get down there the quicker, it'll
go on the scalpy market. So just you know, do
yourself a favor and get down there as quickly as
(01:14:31):
possible to make sure you you grab that before they
go away. But no, it's gonna be it's a big
series this weekend or big series this weekend. No, it's
like every series is big. But as far as like
pitching matchups go, I'm trying to find pitching matchups. So
you're Chris here is so. By the way, Jack White
(01:14:53):
is doing a mini festival, not a fine opp so
just random random in the podcast, so which is good
comparatively speaking, if you know.
Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
Summer festival seasons kicking in.
Speaker 5 (01:15:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
Is Ario Speedwagon still touring? Can I still get?
Speaker 2 (01:15:10):
But I've seen them live.
Speaker 6 (01:15:11):
They are I saw him live when I was like
like twenty and we were like Ario Speedwagon and then
it was like the star Oh I know, I'll be song.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Okay, this is cool.
Speaker 4 (01:15:20):
I went we went and saw him down at the
at Cobo for free, like right on the waterfront, like
ten years nights.
Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
No, that sounds fun.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Oh, by the way, you guys want to see it.
Speaker 6 (01:15:28):
They became my standard for like a seventies band that
I was like, I'm not gonna like this, and then
I was like, oh, this is actually a pretty fun concept.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
Okay, you guys want to see a cool play by
Jim Jarvis the podcast s who got his first RB
I and I believe it was first major league so
grasuations to former Eerie Sools infielder Jim Jarvis or well,
I mean he was all over the system, but uh,
let me check out this play he made the first.
Speaker 1 (01:15:57):
Year.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Yeah, the year that guy's that guy's awesome. Yeah all right,
so yeah this is relay. Yeah Lewis who get out
the jars darts?
Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:16:12):
I was listening to I was listening to a Baseball
America podcast the other day and they were talking about
they were just, you know, picking some of their favorite
sleepers in the draft, guys who are like, you know,
eight ninth, tenth round or whatever, and Jengie Cooper picked
a guy that he just really loves his defense and
it was and then we went back and looked and
like they had him as a plus defender. And he
(01:16:33):
looked back at like the draft from three years ago.
He's like, who are the only plus defenders we had?
And like in this range, it was like, oh, this
guy and Jim Jarvis, and he's like, these guys, these
guys get to the big leagues.
Speaker 5 (01:16:42):
If you could play plus defense at shortstop, you got
a chance.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
And this is why Yo has such a strong floor. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:16:48):
Yeah, it's a sound draft strategy.
Speaker 4 (01:16:51):
What they're doing other than the high school picting, even
though I fall in love with the high school pictures every.
Speaker 5 (01:16:56):
Time and go, oh ok, yeah, but there's a reason.
Speaker 4 (01:16:59):
Yeah, we just feel a little still get drafted the
first round. They both of them can't throw strikes.
Speaker 1 (01:17:02):
Right, We need to just mix in a little more,
a little more juco. In college.
Speaker 6 (01:17:06):
I know Ethan Shefflebean something something lost lost last seasons.
Speaker 1 (01:17:10):
He ever gonn to pitch again? We don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
This is drivers his first RBI by the way.
Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
Perfect, Oh nice, that's a classic, classic, first.
Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
Hit gradual licensed in stars.
Speaker 6 (01:17:22):
But what I will say about Schofflebean is that, you know,
we didn't Paul Wilson disappeared into the ether and a
couple of these guys are so and in the.
Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
First year Paul Wilson, it wasn't it wasn't even like
it was like, this is not good stuff. This is
like eighty nine ninety one with a fastball, and he
can't throw strikes. And now he's consistently ninety four ninety
six with a couple of breaking balls, and there's something there,
you know, if he stays healthy.
Speaker 5 (01:17:46):
He looked like at least a little reliever down the road.
Speaker 6 (01:17:48):
Yep, yeah, got his man strength and then you just
don't know, you know, when when they're injured, you have
we just have nothing to say, Like I have no
idea what going is going broll. I know Ethan Schofflebean
is pumping iron like a madman, turning himself into an
absolute goddamn monster.
Speaker 1 (01:18:02):
We could hope, but but yeah, probably probably not.
Speaker 6 (01:18:06):
But and as far as uh we keep trading to Dobrowski, well,
I don't know how you leave.
Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
For Michael Lorenzo is working out just fine in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (01:18:13):
So yeah, yeah, yeah, how Yue is He's been awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:18:18):
He's so fun.
Speaker 6 (01:18:19):
Yeah, I know, he's you know, just as a backup infielder,
you know who's like the one right handed hitter in
the in the mix. Yeah, and plays like a plays
like a beast and super intense and super fun. I'm happy, Like,
just keep keep grinding that plate discipline a little bit more.
Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
We got to get back to that.
Speaker 5 (01:18:37):
And Gregory Soto has just continuing to be Gregory Soto
for like four different.
Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
Teams now, but relatively healthy, shockingly, but yeah, he's you know.
Speaker 5 (01:18:47):
He's gets strikeouts. As a lefty, a little few too
many walks. You're right, never quite as low as you'd.
Speaker 6 (01:18:51):
Like, but kind of the classic dude who like won
every five outings you want to fire him into the sun,
and the rest of the time he's he's kind of
a monster still.
Speaker 4 (01:18:59):
So yeah, he did get us walk right down as
soon as he left Detroit. I'll say that it's still
a little bit high. But he was consistently over five
for nine with Detroit, and it's been consistently under four
other teams.
Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
Yeah, I can't argue with that. So but yeah, so
Tigers in A's this week, it serves of like pitching matchups. Wise,
the A's have not announced who their starters are. I
don't think as of as of as of tonight.
Speaker 5 (01:19:26):
So schoolbl Jtin was one of them.
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
I thought one of them.
Speaker 1 (01:19:31):
Oh that'll be cool to see him, Okay, but uh no.
Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
Nevertheless, then they, like I said the end of the series.
Speaker 4 (01:19:38):
With christ say the next time we see you, it's
gonna be Saturday. Yes, the drafts coming up. We've got
the annual Draft Upalooza. Drafted on. Roger had a nice
you put together a really nice breakdown of of you know,
doing who's handling what when, because the draft itself starts
at like one, but the Tigers probably won't pack until
three and then have three more picks. They have two
(01:20:03):
round or second round copy and then round four. But yeah,
so we've we've kind of ramped up the draft coverage.
Roger's written stuff about catchers, had pictures, We had Jerry
do some juco stuff. Ashley did like a nice piece
on fourteen different players. I think that she thinks fit
the Tigers.
Speaker 1 (01:20:19):
Then Aflete I just read yeah before we got on
the air, and it's really good. Everyone should go check
that out.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
Yeah. Uh yeah, she's she's killed. She's been killing every time.
She's been right as of late, as far as like
first round predictions go.
Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
You know, Bangler, Spangler, Landing thrown.
Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
Uh, Tom Jim told me, Jim Tomy Landon told me,
I'm gonna go I'm gonna go picture. I'm gonna go picture.
I think I'm gonna go with a picture. You know what,
why not Tigers? What picture?
Speaker 5 (01:20:55):
Though?
Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
I don't know that. I like to think that it's
gonna be the kid from USC the Yeah, if he's there,
but the Tigers are just you know, Tigers. Every time
I say they want something, to go to the opposite,
you know, like example, I want a cam Smith, did
you want? That's fine.
Speaker 6 (01:21:12):
I don't think Aiden Ruiz is out of the question either,
especially if they decide that they're going to do the
we're gonna spread all our money around, you know, like
crazy this year kind of a strategy.
Speaker 1 (01:21:21):
Yeah, I don't know. It should be interesting. Who's that
lefty prep pitcher that she was talking about.
Speaker 5 (01:21:26):
Uhle Schmitt?
Speaker 4 (01:21:28):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's one of he's been I've
seen him all the way up at like six with
the Royals and then like the third route. Like it's
so hard to predict where high school pictures are going
to go because you know, the money is generally the same.
It's just a matter of who who's paying them win
I do. I mean, yeah, but Spangler, Ruiz, you know,
(01:21:50):
James Clark, any of these like sort of high school hitters.
I do wonder though, if they might throw a little
bit of curveball there. And I really like that Taylor
Rabe guy. We've talked about it before, Old miss. You
might be able to get him at twenty two for
like a slight haircut and then get some of the
prep bats or a prep bat and a prep piccher,
you like, with that second and third pick you have
down you know, save a little bit of money there
(01:22:11):
and throw them each like two million or whatever. Yeah,
I'm sure they are working out every potential. Maybe that's
where Harris has been. Maybe he's just been in the
draft bunker for the last time.
Speaker 1 (01:22:21):
You bet they have.
Speaker 6 (01:22:22):
You know, you know that they probably have been like
prepping for that, like well, obviously they have been prepping
for that like crazy. So that's where that's where Scotty's
spending his time these days. He's down there watching footage.
Speaker 5 (01:22:33):
Yeah, such an interesting question at the very end.
Speaker 4 (01:22:36):
I know we're trying to get out of here, but yeah,
does the chance likelihood we don't have baseball next season
make any difference at the deadline or in the draft?
Speaker 6 (01:22:42):
You can listen to the whole last episode where I
like droned on and on about this, but we just
don't know, you know, like probably every time we go
into the CBA, you think like everything's going to change
and you know, everyone's making proposals, and then not that.
Speaker 1 (01:22:56):
Much necessarily will change.
Speaker 6 (01:22:58):
But this time doesn't feel that way really, So I
just don't know, like, you know, the cop picks and
the qualifying offer structure and all that will probably be
carried over, you know, unless they lose the season. So
I don't really think that that's like a huge consideration
because if they lose the season, like everything's just screwed.
Speaker 5 (01:23:16):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:23:17):
I don't know what, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:23:18):
I don't know what we do beyond that, but it's
definitely something that you have to consider as far as like,
you know, you probably do need to trade, you know,
for prospects and not like take any chances of like
holding out for the pick or you know, trying to
use that to leverage a contract with myz. You know,
there were a lot of strategies that seemed more possible
before some of the you know, the proposals and counterproposals
(01:23:41):
started coming out. But that might just be me freaking
out and overreact and you know to some of those
proposals and they won't happen, So who knows.
Speaker 4 (01:23:49):
Yeah, I don't think it'll change the way teams approach
the draft, but I do think it's a real thing
for people, you know, for the trade deadline. You know,
like if you've if you feel like your window is now,
then there might not be a season next year, might
lose your best players then, and.
Speaker 1 (01:24:01):
You might get a salary cap put on you. If
you're one of the big spenders, you'd think you would
you would go hard. Yeah, you think the Dodgers.
Speaker 6 (01:24:07):
Would be going nuts, and the Yankees, you know, the
Yankees should be doing a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:24:12):
One would assume.
Speaker 5 (01:24:14):
Yeah, the one thing that you know, Philly's hilly.
Speaker 6 (01:24:17):
Philly's windows starting to you know, creep closed here as well,
so they might be someone to watch as usual.
Speaker 4 (01:24:23):
People people always talk about a team blowing up the draft,
which they've never nobody's ever done it yet.
Speaker 5 (01:24:28):
I don't think anybody ever will, But one of these
days it would be really fun if somebody did that.
Speaker 4 (01:24:32):
Which is what I mean is, uh, there's a you know,
there's a soft kind of cap what you can spend,
and each when you go over that, you you pay tax.
But then when you go over that too much, you
lose draft picks. And nobody's ever done that. But somebody
could just be like, you know what.
Speaker 1 (01:24:47):
Screwing I want right now for five million dollars.
Speaker 4 (01:24:51):
The only thing is is it like that would probably
work for like one round before other teams would be like,
wait a minute, Yeah, I think yeah, outside this guy,
you can't up these guys down for eight million more
than once. Yeah, and now the minor leagues do not
stop playing during the lockout that happened. They did, They
kept playing in ninety four ninety five.
Speaker 1 (01:25:10):
Yeah, did the draft go as normal that?
Speaker 5 (01:25:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
I can't remember.
Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:25:16):
I assume I think it did, but I don't know
because the strike happened where the lockout was after the
draft at ninety four, and then the right and the
season came back before the draft.
Speaker 1 (01:25:29):
Yeah, I guess you're right. Yeah, they were back on
the field, so maybe it didn't even affect it.
Speaker 5 (01:25:34):
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
Nevertheless, Yeah we'll be Yeah. So next time you'll see me, well,
more likely be no Thursday, Gus cribs off all Thursday.
More likely. Yeah, Saturday Draft show six hours plus and
then Sunday we may do something, but probably at a
lesser scale. But Saturday is a big draft show. Join us,
Scott Bentley, myself, Chris Brown, Ashley will be joining us,
(01:25:57):
a parade of guests throughout the throughout the day. Because
it's not for everybody to expect I mean Bentley is
a trooper, he'll go the whole time.
Speaker 5 (01:26:06):
Afterwards.
Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, because he's a man man. So but yeah, well,
we'll see you on Saturday State, like I said, will
be on all day, just come by hang out with us,
will be I think I got Gordon from Woodwards, like
I said, I got a bunch of people because I
know full well that more likely I don't. I might
be doing it this year from the house Chris, because
only because it's so early in the day. So we'll see.
(01:26:31):
I don't know. I'm sure trying to be with.
Speaker 1 (01:26:35):
Chris.
Speaker 2 (01:26:35):
Might have to do the jump in the pool. We
want to see a mid forties guy jumping in the
school anymore. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:26:40):
I mean I think that's that's what makes it better,
right yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:26:44):
If it was just some hottie, then I would just
be like any other of the internet, you know, yeah special,
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 5 (01:26:51):
It's true.
Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
If I know that somebody asked me last year about
having actually jumped in the pool, like absolutely not.
Speaker 1 (01:26:57):
To do that.
Speaker 2 (01:26:57):
Don't even ask yeah first, yeah, don't be a first.
I have a great night, everybody, Thanks so much for watching.
Keep it Clossy and we will talk to you, uh,
some of you guys on Thursday for more symmetrics.
