Speaker 1 (00:00):
I have no idea we had to do at.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
This game, RightCare.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Oh I'm sorry that I'm.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
God. When you are up under sound.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
The music stops to play, you can sit out.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
We got the can injury that is don't last do
the right shoulder surgery?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Well deep bouts of left field that goes out to
that book something.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
That isn't.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
One long time.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Look, I'm gonna have a chance to change intro. So
I will change the intro soon. Okay, I forgot about
the last part there intro. Welcome to the regular live
stream of the Tiger's My Little Report podcast here at
Tiger's on Old Report dot com. A proud member of
the Just Baseball Network, I am a re helica so
long to send me his Brandon Day and Chris Brown
and we did a live reaction show earlier and just

(01:17):
like Brandon said before the podcast, my brain is fried.
A lot happened in the last you know, Scott Harris
did a buzzer beater. We have Scott Harris' video to
go to. He basically owned it. He said he messed up.
And I think this is kind of like a I
think Chris, I could just say to you with full

(01:37):
confidence that I wouldn't believe it if you were told me,
if I wasn't on the call with you.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Mm hmm, yeah. I mean, you know, I think he
couched it in the idea that they had so many
injuries that he like, he's never seen before, right. I
think you mentioned the thirty five people from the forty
man got injured. But he also said that that he
owed up to that fact. He said, I didn't build
enough depth. And beyond that, he said, I did not

(02:03):
do enough in me to get us out of that tailspan,
basically to figure out a way for us to get
out of that, which you know, I think is he's
probably the bare minimum you want from from a president
to say, yeah, like this is not good enough. He
said that he hates selling. He said that they did
not fully decide to go this way until the end

(02:25):
of the Oriel series, which makes sense to all of
us who watched that. I think we all were like, yeah.
But he also, you know, Roger, you asked them, He
talked about the players they acquired, and they're obviously excited
about a lot of these guys. And then at the
you know, the end, we asked about, you know, did
he consider going and getting some relief help. You sold
a couple of pieces, but you also acknowledge that there's

(02:46):
a chance you guys can still go on and win.
And he basically said the cost was too high and
they have some young guys that they want to give
chance to. So it's basically like, yeah, you know, we're
gonna if we make it in, that's great. We're not
necessarily trying. We're not going to spend to try enough
good young talent that we could give it a go anyway.

(03:09):
So that's that's that's basically, And you posted the entire
thing so people can go watch it themselves. It's on
our YouTube channel, right, Yeah, it is so And you know,
you and I have talked. This is our third show
about all this stuff now, and Brandon, you've written about
a lot. But but I you know, I don't know
if you had a chance to kind of publicly talk
about it, so I'd be curious to hear your thoughts

(03:29):
out loud.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
I mean, yeah, I like the last thing I had
to do, and I've written like a small book over
the last three days. But was like great, you know,
grade the trade deadline, it was like some article that
sp Nation wanted us all to do. So I did that,
and the first thing that came to mind is that
I don't one hundred percent or I didn't now I
do now that Scott's spoken, I didn't one hundred percent
understand their intentions because they didn't just sell, like everything

(03:54):
that wasn't nailed down, and it made perfect sense to
trade Tarrek Schoogle and to still maybe try to go
get a reliever and see if you can piece this
thing together and sneak in and just take your shot,
because you just never know, you know, we don't know
what Jackson Job and River Ryan are going to do
in September, in October, or if if anything in October.
So that kind of surprised me. So I wasn't really

(04:14):
you know, it was just kind of like caught in
between here, like I'm not one hundred percent sure if
they had any other intentions here, but Scott made it
pretty clear like nope, we just decided to sell. And
you know, and maybe that doesn't mean, you know, the
team isn't gonna punt on the season, because that's not
what baseball players and coaches and managers and everything do,
but you know, essentially that sounds like what the front office,
you know, decided, was that this this just isn't gonna happen.

(04:38):
Even if it does happen, we're not good enough to
you know, make a deep run, whatever it might be.
And so you know, it's good for him to be
honest about that. Right before the show started, you know,
I talked to Roger and we were you know, I
was just we were talking about how different what he
had to say was from last year. Where he last year,
he sounded an awful lot like the players had to
be better. You know, he said that a couple of

(04:59):
different times, like, you know, we can't just go by
whoever we want, you know, the team we've got's got
to be better. Was kind of the gist of it.
And I immediately responded with a bit of a snarky headline,
although the article wasn't snarky. You know, like you've got
to blame yourself, you know, you know, you've got to
do better. You know, the problem here is that you
can't build a both end homie. And you know, I mean,
and I again, that's the problem this year, you know, really,

(05:21):
I mean yeah, I mean the injuries to Will vest
Is in particular, we're probably crucial, Like if will vest
had held up an extra year and continue to be
a top ten, top fifteen reliever in baseball, maybe things
look different right now. That didn't happen. But again, you know,
everybody they've got has not worked. And once again they
you know, they spent on quite a few different guys,

(05:43):
haven't really got a whole lot out of them. And
this is just an ongoing failure with the front office,
with pitching acquisitions that I don't really know what to
tell them to do. I'm certainly you know, something in
the pro scouting here is not is not you know, connecting,
and they do a lot of other things. Well, I know,
you know, some people will think I hate I hate
Scott Harris, or you know, some people love Scott Harris. Whatever.

(06:05):
I'm just like, I think Scott Harris is a perfectly
like average team runner, you know, and he has this
one flaw and if he could fix that flaw, things
would change, you know, pretty quickly. And it's just a
frustrating flaw because we've seen you know, Dave Dobrski's whole
career here, it's the bullpen always, you know, where they
just have you know, not been able to win in
close games, have not been able to win when they're

(06:26):
not putting up six, eight, ten runs. And it's frustrating
because the offense looks, you know, pretty great right now. Obviously,
you know, the athletics will make a lot of people
look great. But edwardo Valenci has continued to hit. Max
Clark is off to a good start. You know, you
got me, Dot McGonagall, Dingler Green, You keep taking guys
who are bad hitters out of the lineup. We don't know,

(06:47):
you know, if the good hitters are going to stay
this good. I don't know if Max Clark has like
already figured it out probably mat you know, is Dylan
Dingler even this good or if there was this kind
of like peak Dingler and he'll regress, you know, to
kind of a more natural, just good hitter next year.
We don't know. But there's a lot of things that
went right enough this year that it's just extra frustrating
that once again, the pitching acquisitions have been pretty much

(07:11):
a bust. You know, Framber for what he's worth or
for what he costs is a bust. And so far,
and you know, Kenley Jansen hasn't been very good at least,
you know, inconsistent and prone to blowing up. Same thing
with Finnegan. And so here we are again, you know,
with the third the third straight year where they didn't

(07:31):
really try that hard, you know, to address all their
issues and win. They made a kind of a hasty
move for for Framber and we were all like relatively
happy with that because at least they did something, They
spent some money. They finally tried to like, you know,
patch up a hole in a big way, and that
just hasn't worked out either. But yeah, it's it's frustrating
that the Tark school era ends, you know, much like

(07:54):
most of his you know, the best seasons, the last
two years when he won the cy Young you know,
ended where they just didn't really have the arms at
the end of the day and they were trying trying
to piece it together and they didn't have the bats
to a certain degree in twenty four and twenty five
certainly too. They obviously needed more both of those years.
But this is the year where you know, they were
adding a lot of prospect camel as they went along,

(08:15):
and I thought that was gonna be a big factor
that you know, to have job coming back to know
you were going to call up Max Clark sometime down
the stretch. We didn't know for sure if he would
if he would quite break out enough at Triple A.
But in the end, yeah, it's it's disappointing and it's
frustrating and at the same time being objective about what
they decided to end up doing. They did pretty well
at the deadline. You know, I think both of those

(08:36):
deals are good. I think the Maze one might prove
a little bit of a heist. I do like Mayfield,
and I also I had kind of come to convince
myself that no one was really going to offer very
much for Casey Mice. I mean, you know, he averaged
like ninety one point nine miles power with his fastball
the last time out. It was down the time before that.
He's still having some kind of, you know, at least

(08:57):
irritation with the groin strained situation, and I kind of
thought everybody would just be hands off with him so
to actually get you know, if we just want to
put it in terms of the cop pick basically an
equivalent to a you know, a first round compensation pick
and an arm that I like. So I think they
did well there. We always. You know, maybe I wouldn't
give him an A because they didn't get you know,

(09:18):
Mike Serota, who I really wanted, or Cantaro or you
know whoever one of the top three. But I likes
I hear Hope quite a bit, and I like Brady Smith,
and that deal is probably just gonna come down to
you know, they took the risk reward side with River
Ryan instead of you know, taking something safe but not
very impressive in Emitch and or Justin Robleski. Some have

(09:40):
suggested so, and I prefer that they do that. They
might as well take the upside. River Ryan is a
freaking monster. I have no idea if he'll ever be
able to stay on the mountain long enough to prove
that to people. But you know, it's an impressive arm
and I think overall, I mean, you have to look
at these deals and and give them at least a
solid B, you know B. Plus it wasn't like every

(10:00):
thing that we might have dreamed for, but they did
pretty well. I think.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yeah. I mean I said earlier, you know, and I
understand people always want to do this, right. You always
want grades, you want graft grades, you want trade grades
and stuff like that. And it's just always you never
know right until things come down the wash later. Like
you know, at the time when the Tigers traded for
Max Scherzer, this was an exciting young arm who wasn't

(10:24):
necessarily like he certainly wasn't like, oh, that's a definite
Hall of Famer. Yeah, he had a good arm. He
had some fifty numbers. And sometimes it's about getting a
guy to the right spot. Sometimes it's about you know
your your scout's doing the right work on guys and
understanding who was absolutely psycho about being good. Yeah, and
we'll see. I tend to agree with you. I think

(10:47):
I would say earlier, like if all three of these
prospects that they got when the Dodgers reached their ceiling,
I think River Ryan is the best player there by
their but pretty significant margin. Like he's got a chance
to be an absolute monster if he could just stay healthy.
And who knows, and that's that's risky and if it
doesn't work out, there you go. I think we all
understand the risk. I think the Tigers understand the risk.
M hmm. But yeah, if he comes out and he

(11:10):
can pitch and stay healthy, it's like he and Melton
are like, I mean, he's kind of like melting but
with like a better fastball.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Maybe maybe it's kind of a little better shape.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Yeah, yeah, so those two could be great. But yeah,
it's I try not to. Like, I understand a lot
of a lot of fans are upset, and a lot
of people view it as given up on the season,
and you know, they didn't. They ultimately didn't get anything
done with Schooble in mys and that's true. I guess
I look at we were talking earlier about like at
least they're not the Orioles. Yeah, the Orioles. They never

(11:42):
won a single playoff game with Adlee rdmen the number
one overall pick, you know, considered kind of kind of
a generational talent there with the one to one pick.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
And there's they're supposed to be starting an era there,
and they're already turning the era down, you know. And
Jackson Holliday looks better but hasn't really broke out into,
you know, being the super guy that you'd expect. Gunnar
Henderson is good, but you know, they have Bisio. But yeah,
I would much rather be in the Tiger's position than
than the Orioles. Oriels. Fans are apoplectic. I think it

(12:10):
would be the word he is.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Yeah, I mean, you know, they got they got a
good return, a goodish return there for you know, some
people thought it was an absolute heist. I'm a little
bit wary of what they got, but you know, it
could end be great for them too. It's just yeah,
it's it's kind of a bummer too. Like and I've
heard people compare this to like when when when Verlander
got traded, and to me, it's it's just different. First
of all, like Verlander had been here longer and they

(12:33):
had accomplished more. And but also that was a very
clear sign that it was time to completely rebuild, right
and this is this is not that this is more
of a retool And and I think a lot of
us understood that these guys probably weren't they're certainly probably
not resigning or signing an extension. You know, who knows
what will happen in the off season. But no, they
did it kind of the prudent thing. And I do

(12:54):
see people are asking, like, you know, so why didn't
they sell more? And that was a question that was asked,
And I mean you could certainly make the argument that
they should have tried to move Forrez and Jansen, and
maybe they did and just didn't feel like the return
was worth it. They still like having Torres around this
young team, Yeah, and this kind of fun just just like, no,

(13:15):
you know what, what are you value more the wins
you might be able to get down the stretch or
whatever kind of you know, seatier prospect you can get
for Torres.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Yeah, I mean, I think that's what it comes down to,
is this. I mean, lottery ticket type prospects do sometimes
work out. But you weren't going to get very much
for Labor Torres with the injuries he's had this year.
You know, he's he's had a better year defensively, but
no one is going to quite buy into that, you know.
I mean he's still a little bit of a defensive
liability in some other infields, not the Tigers infield necessarily,

(13:44):
you know, so maybe, yeah, there just wasn't that much
call for him, and you know, maybe they still have
in the back of their mind that hey, if we
do somehow, you know, worm our way into the last
wild card spot here, well then you want, you know,
Labor Torres's bat available in the postseason and maybe just
have that that little uh, you know, that little kicker.
At least that little chance is worth more than you know,

(14:06):
a throw in, which is really I think all you
were you were likely to get. But it is kind
of interesting that they didn't just dump all the salaries
and like you know, I mean, and try to just
sell everything that wasn't nailed down. I mean, I don't
think a lot of people were calling about Kenley Jansen
or Kyle Finigan certainly, so I'm not surprised that they
didn't get moved. But but yeah, it just sort of left.

(14:27):
And maybe this has nothing to do with Scott Harris,
because it's there's just such a flurry of reporting. I
can't even remember who reported what words or phrase things
a certain way over the last three or four days,
and you end up just down these rabbit holes. But
the idea that they were going to thread the needle,
you know that that phrase kept kept being used by
a lot of people that they were, which to me
meant you know, yeah, we're gonna trade tark schoogle and

(14:47):
then we're still going to try to sneak into the postseason.
And they don't seem to have, you know, have tried
to do that at all. You know, they just decided
like we're out. You know, the team can do what
you wants to do, and if they can make it
on their own, they good for them. But you know
we're done, so you know we have clarity. Now. Clarity
is nice, Yeah, where we stand anyway.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
And it doesn't I don't know, like we've seen, you know,
it's it's you can't really judge playing in Sacramento, but
there's a lot of young, fun players on this team still,
and I don't think it's I'm sure some people are like,
that's it. I'm waiting for the Lions or Onto college
football or whatever. But I think they're two and a
half games off of the wild card. Like there's nothing
that says they can't keep competing. Like for all the

(15:32):
injuries we talked about, and we mentioned this a bunch,
that they're starting pitching, it's generally been good even when
school was out, when Mines was out. Now clarity's out.
Like they're making it harder on themselves by removing Blax
and school for sure. But yeah, it wouldn't shock me
if they survive the starting pitching at least, and then
you know, it's can the offense stay like this, and
could the Bullpens stop shooting itself in the foot every game? Yeah,

(15:55):
which I'm typical about.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Yeah, but I think, I mean this is more This
still feels like more of a beginning, you know. I mean,
this is the like the beginning of Scott Harris's era,
now if you know, I mean it's all his it's
all his responsibility, but like you know, some of the
studs that that he was handed when he took over
have now been moved and he's got McGonagall and Clark up.
You know, it finally starts to feel in year four

(16:19):
like it's you know that Scott Harris's team more at
least more more so than it has And yeah, I
mean they've still got Melton, Montero and Framber Valdez. I
mean that's you know, I mean, you're not lighting up
the world necessarily, but that's a pretty good, you know,
first three guys. Not not terrible, although Valdez you know,
continues to be erratic, you know, to put it that way,

(16:40):
and not really didn't know what you're gonna get for him.
But I mean, if you put you know, two really
good relievers in this Bullton, I'd still think they're probably
gonna sneak into the postseason because, in my opinion, you've
upgraded center field, you know, on both sides of the
ball with Max Clark, not by a lot defensively over
over outman, but a ton offensively. Even if he you know,

(17:00):
regresses and just hits like two thirty, you know, gets
on base three twenty, if that's how it goes the
rest of the year, that's still you know, he's still
going to put the ball in play quite a lot,
and so you're better there, You're better defensively. That should
help the the bullpen. You've got Mail Jerry out there
a little bit now, which helps you a little bit
defensively too. So yeah, you know, the team, like in

(17:22):
certain senses, is actually upgrading as we go here and
having Valencia actually be able to hit, you know, like,
oh we have a we have a like a d
H and a kind of legit pinch hitter perhaps here
who can catch a little bit. Although got his receiving
bro still frustrating me. But but you know, for the
time being, it's fine. And so yeah, I mean it's
still an interesting, fairly entertaining team. And I don't know,

(17:44):
maybe with you know, people who get frustrated and are like, Okay,
we're not going to make it. You know, I'm out,
you know, call me when football starts. The rest of
us can just kind of sit back and enjoy, you know,
enjoy the rest of the season. There's a lot, there's
a lot to watch. There's a lot that's going to
be interesting for the future and in the farm system
as well, of course, Like you know, we're still hoping

(18:05):
we get to see Fluky and a few of the
other guys from from this draft class, and yeah, you know,
we got job coming back. We don't know what he's
gonna do it first, but he's still in the very
early phases of his development as a major league pitcher.
So you know, the whole thing is kind of a drag.
But I don't have the emotional attachment to Trek School

(18:25):
that I did justin Burlander certainly, and maybe I'm just older,
but I don't think. I mean, it's just because Verlander
did so much here and was such a you know,
like really like the last of the like the horses,
like that type of you know, pitcher. Like we're just
in a different era now, you know, And you know,
School's only been the best pitcher in baseball, you know,
for three years, which which isn't that long a time.

(18:46):
So you know, we saw two different like dominant stretches
from Berlander before we even traded it, or maybe three,
And that was a whole era where the Tigers hadn't
even sniffed the playoffs in twenty years. So justin Burlander
was also sort of like the herald of you know, Okay,
we're semi legit again and might have some chances. Yeah, anyway,
I mean Schoopble to a degree fits that category. But

(19:07):
when you look at what they have now and where
they're going, if they can just get the pitching acquisitions right,
we should be a pretty good team for years to come. Like,
I don't see anybody in the Central to be terribly
scared of. Like it's probably gonna be kind of a
three team horse race for a little while here. I
think the White Sox have at least proven they have
some staying power and they still have a pretty good
farm with some guys, and the Guardians are just going

(19:28):
to continue to be the Guardians and irritate the living
heck out of us so and maybe not be that good,
but always seem to manage to make a run when
they need to and win eighty six eighty seven games
or something.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
Yeah, and they made a bunch of trades that seemed
very guardian esque made them. I've apologize to everybody in
that the chat they're talking about, there's a lot of buffering.
I don't know if it's on my end, if it's
on your end, if it's on Roger's end. Roger I
think he stepped out. I assumed maybe he's on another
show doing an interview there, but.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
I don't know. Yeah, it's like, you sound fine to me,
but yeah, you sound fine to me too, So sorry everybody.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Yeah, no, it's other people are saying it's fine on Twitter,
so maybe it's YouTube. But yeah, I was going to
go back. There were some some some questions in there.
People were talking about River Ryan being twenty eight, but again,
like that doesn't bother me. And I think a lot

(20:25):
of the people who were like, you know, know how
good he is or how good he can be at
the age itself doesn't really bother him, because he is
if he's healthy, he's plugging play, he's ready right now,
and and.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
It's not a wear and tear thing It's not like
he's got like this huge volume of innings on his elbow.
You know. It was really just when they started to
ramp up his workload in twenty four that he blew
up the elbow. So yeah, I mean, age is one thing,
and it matters, but there's also like workload and you know,
time in the game basically so and he doesn't have
much of that, so you know what, it would be

(20:59):
better if he was twenty five. Sure, But yeah, I
don't think the age is really the question here. It's
just is this dude like to injury prone in all
these little ways? The Tommy John probably went fine, you know.
I mean his arm looks great, arm strength is one
hundred percent back, but he's had you know, little spying
issue he has, you know, the ham strings this year.

(21:20):
He's he's a guy who's had a lot of those
nagging things, kind of like a Casey Miies in a
certain sense, different type of picture. But yeah, so the age,
the age isn't really a factor, I mean to me
so much, and he's you know, is it three or
four years of control? I can't even remember.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
I think four, And it may depend on you know,
if he comes back in pitches this year.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah, yeah, when he goes back.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
So one of the things, like we can talk about
this just in general, pictures are different than hitters, Like
if you're acquiring a hitter at twenty eight, then you
may have missed his best years, right, Pictures some of
them can stay dominant until their mid thirties.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yeah, and lot oftimes. The most you know, durable era
for a pitcher is like in his late twenties and
early thirties, not you know, when he's twenty four, twenty five.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
So yeah, and I keep making these comparisons, which is
totally unfair because these are some of the best pitchers
in baseball. But Jacob de Gram is very similar to
River Ryan in a lot of ways, as a small
school guy who was a two way player who was
injured a bunch and then he started I think at
twenty six. Yeah, it's a little bit younger, obviously, And

(22:26):
like Zach Wheeler, Zack Wheeler got to the big leagues
when he was young and then kept getting hurt. He
missed three seasons I think. Yeah, he did not start
picking well until he was like twenty eight. Yeah, and
he's been awesome in his mid thirties. Not like you
can't count on that. Like it's so hard to know
with any picture, right, Like Steven Strasburg was, you know,
amazing pitcher and then basically got career ending injuries. Franklin Perez, Yeah,

(22:49):
bus his soul was healthy as a horse until he
got to the Tigers and then immediately broke. Like you
just don't know. And there was a question, is what
has River done that's so impressive. It's not necessarily what
he's done. Uh, And he's pitched well in the miners.
When he does pitch, it's it's more of how it
looks the stuff. The stuff is electric, and he throws
strikes with all of it, and he's super athletic, and

(23:11):
it just it. I guess you have to you have
to see it. Yeah, we have videos, there are videos online.
We put a video of one of his starts up
on our YouTube channel.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
He spends the heck out of the breaking balls. Yeah, fast,
fast ball is ninety six to one hundred and more
at times, really explosive, pretty good angle to the top
of the zone as well. Yeah, he's he's just got
super nasty stuff, you know, and he throws strikes. He
hasn't really had like I can't say that he's got
like refined command, but he's he's you know, generally been

(23:40):
a strike thrower too. So yeah, it's not that he's
done anything because he's been injured. It's that every time
he does get back on the mound, everybody goes like, oh, okay, yep, yeah,
this is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball
again immediately, you know. So yeah, you know, it's just
kind of a crapshoot whether or not he'll he'll be
able to figure it out or not. But often what
we see happen is when a guy has like a
major injury like the Tommy John, the rehab process actually

(24:02):
gets them in the best shape of their life and
changes the way that they go about their conditioning and
makes them a lot more serious about that kind of
thing and their diet. And I don't know, you know
enough about River Ryan to know if that's the case.
I mean, the hamstring injuries don't really argue well for that,
but a lot of times, guys, do you know, part
of the reason teams kind of hunt guys who just
got back from Tommy John, where it all looks like

(24:23):
it's gone well is because oftentimes that's when they're you know,
when they ride right to their peak, you know, not
long after that. So you know, he hasn't really he
hasn't really shown that this year, and who knows, he
may never may never pitch again. It's pitching, you don't know.
But you could go take the most durable guy you want,
you know, I mean, Jordan Zi Zimmermann was super durable
and immediately, you know, like, okay, he had a he

(24:47):
dropped a mile prour, you know, the year before the
time you're signed him. It's like, yeah, but that that
stuff just happens. Nobody thought he was gonna have, you know,
permanent shoulderatis.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Yeah, you know, they go back to Dondrell Willis. Andre
Willis had success at a very young age and then
died by the time it just died. But he was
like twenty five, right, yeah, I think. And yet you know,
Jimmy said, can we we we couldn't get a healthy
picture that could help. Now they could have I'm sure
they could, Like we talked about it. They could have
got an image she hand. Maybe maybe, I don't know, Hey,

(25:18):
there are other guys out there, other teams could have
put together packages I think with pictures right now, who
could have helped them this year, But the ceiling I
don't think was there. This This is a really high
ceiling picture. It's it's a lot of risk, but if
it works out, like you guys will see in a
couple of years like, yeah, that was good.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
Yeah, there's been a lot of talk about you know
how conservative Scott Harris is and careful or you know,
I mean you can frame it more more negatively than
that if you want to. But you know, when it
comes to pitching as acquisitions, he's he's been willing to
roll the dice. I mean they've drafted a lot of
prent pictures and they looked at this and they said, yeah,
we could probably get like an inning z to eaten,

(25:56):
you know, third or four starter maybe to go with
Hope and Smith, but we'd rather have the guy who,
if things work out, we have a one two starter here.
So you know, I mean, they they rolled the dice there,
and they they took the upside rather than the safety play.
And you know, again as we're saying, you know, it's pitching,
so maybe there is no safety place.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
So you know, yeah, yeah, there were a lot of
questions in the Q and A about Schoogle and what
they you know, did they talk to other teams and
what kind of packages, And I think he said, yeah,
that there were other teams. There were a lot of
different offers on the table, but they I think they
figured out pretty quickly that the best combination they could

(26:38):
get probably from the Dodgers. So that was the matter
of figuring out which one. And then there was a
question about, you know, why why did why don't you
wait longer? And he kind of said, like, you know,
with the with the top starter on the market, like
you're probably not going to get more by like playing
teams off each other or whatever. Like they're going to
make their offers right now because they want them. And
I'd buy that to certain degrees, like you know, they're

(26:58):
not going to pivot to somebody else, to the next
school on the market. But yeah, you see reports that
people thought like, oh, they didn't get enough for people
thought that they could wait longer and got more. Who knows.
I was fine with the amount of talent in return,
and it's just a matter of does it work out
or not.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
Yeah, I mean I thought, you know, my immediate reaction
was like, they didn't get everything I wanted, but they
did better than I kind of feared that they would.
And so I was like, Okay, that that tells me.
It's like right in the middle. You know, they just
made a nice solid trade, got what you'd hope to get,
pick the guys that they wanted, made the distinction for
themselves between Ryan and yeah, maybe some other pitching prospect

(27:39):
who would have been considered safer and yeah, and and
just went for it. I don't I don't really think
anybody was going to go that much further than that.
I mean, we have to keep in mind that Turk
School is not having a Turk Schooble season, and hell,
you know, and he also had surgery. You know, it
was minor, but he is not like absolute peak Schooble
right now. Like if he had just thrown like, you know,

(28:01):
three eight inning starts where you know, he gave up
one run over three starts and was you know, struck
out thirty dudes, you know, maybe maybe somebody throws a
little more caution to the win, but you know, the
Brewers are just not not built to do that kind
of thing, Like they were not going to trade Hayesu's
made and maybe the Tigers like I Hear Hope as
much as they like Louis Pana, you know, so that

(28:23):
might have just been a wash for the Tigers. We're
never gonna get all those answers. The one thing that
Scott Harris did talk about that I had always wanted
to wanted to hear him addressed, was to say that
he that they did at one point, you know, reach
out about an extension and were rebuffed, and that you know,
they made it very clear, Scott Boris made it very
clear that they were going to free agency. So you know,

(28:45):
I mean, you know, if people don't want to believe
it or whatever, that's fine, But you know, that's that's
kind of what I had always wondered because all we'd
never had is that one Petzel report that I never
saw confirmed anywhere else that they had offered him, you know,
four years, one hundred million after the twenty four season,
and I always kind of was a little skeptical that
that was true because it seemed insulting. So I would

(29:06):
like to believe that they just kind of like started
to explore talks and immediately realized like there was no
there was just no chance that you know that at
that point Schoogle was kind of going to sign an extension,
so good to know they at least asked about it.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
I think they, you know Hereris said briefly said it,
but he said, you know that they kind of looked
at their system and thought there was a little bit
light on pitching. And we've said that for the last
year or so, and they've gone out and they addressed
it in the draft with a pretty high upside first
round pick, and they've done it here with three arms
that are you know, probably in their top fifteen, top

(29:41):
twenty prospects, but for sure. So yeah, I mean I
think they did a good job there. We all know,
we've seen the prospects. You know, some of them look
great and then they flame out and some of them
don't necessarily stand out right away, but they just keep
getting better and find a way to get in the
big league.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
So, I mean, how many how many pipting prospects do
you think are better than Mayfield? Like who would you
rank above like maybe Jacob's and Fluky? That is that it? Well?

Speaker 3 (30:09):
Yeah, and Ryan, if we're considering process, yeah right right, Yeah,
I was putting him in my list, and I think
I had him. I think I have Salsado below him,
just because he's at a lower level. It's a little
bit more reliever ish.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
And he just hasn't proven his durability yet because he's
still young. Yeah, that's what I would say too.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
I do think I had him behind Sears, and I
could see the argument for putting him above Sears. I
think it was in my head. I was like, well,
and that, all things being equal, I think I would
rather have a left who's got a plus change up
than an above average slider, which serious does, but just
a guy who's done it a little bit at more
at the higher level. I was like, it's pretty close there,
so I could see the argument either way. But I

(30:51):
have him in the top ten in the system.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Yeah, yeah, so yeah. I mean that's kind of like
giving everyone an idea, like, you know, like what they
got and where they're going to slot in. You know,
I don't have to like quibble over like who's who's
top one hundred and who isn't. But the system is
obviously a lot better. I like both trades, and we're good.

(31:13):
And now the question is how do we go forward? Well,
what do we do.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Now, here's one thing that I will go forward with
that I really take. My biggest takeaway from the press
conference today is that and we talked about this a
little earlier, that he held himself accountable. He was like, look,
it's my bad. I didn't do the address to death.
And that's refreshing because a lot of times, like, look,
he knows that he gets, he knows, he leads, he

(31:39):
leads the people, people know, he knows that people don't
like him, he knows that, like he not dumb, he's
a smart guy. Yeah, the fact that he went out there,
it's like, look, this is my bad. I didn't do
it enough to address the team. I can this and this,
and I didn't.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
And like he's learning. That's what I take. That's what
I take that as that he knew he shouldn't have
said some of the things he said. Yeah, after last season,
it's a learning experience for like you just you just
put it on yourself, you know, you take the heat
and then you get to go back out of the
way and AJ talks to everybody you know the rest
of the time. But but don't go out there and
like try to deflect. I mean, the only way to

(32:14):
do it is to go out there and just be like, look,
you know I didn't I didn't build a good enough
team to get us where we needed to be, and
so now here we are. And you know, people can
take that and be like, oh, we'll see, he sucks,
he needs to be fired. But to me, that's at
least a sign of growth.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Yeah, it's a sign of growth as a guy who
has been really weird. And but again jam Or john O, Yes,
I think Series could be a guy of uh. Series
could be a guy of a bullpen or potential he
could help out sooner than later. But like, just let
me finishing my point real quick. I just think that
to me, for all the ship that he's getting or
has gotten in the last couple of months, and look,

(32:49):
you know we're in the world is Scott Harris. We've
done the jokes and all that stuff, it's just astonishing
to go you know, like he picks up on that.
And so yeah, the biggest thing that I think he
was able to do today and the Tree deadline was
he dressed. He knew like between the d he even
said it, like with the draft, they dressed pitching because

(33:10):
they needed to. They dressed the lack of outfield depth.
Thus why they got Hope and he was able to
go and do what he wanted to do to fix
the holes in the minor leagues that they desperately needed.
And and to me, I know, I would have loved
the bullpen arm absolutely, but uh, Mayfield will go to
it by the way, uh series just as heads up,

(33:32):
Mayfield's gonna go to West Michigan. So anyway, anyway, waiver
claims are not deaf. There's somebody else's leftovers. Yeah, but
I mean it worked out with Tyler holding a couple
of other guys too, so yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
I mean they got a lot of value out of
some waiver claims. Holton is still here, Andyobanyaz did his
job pretty well for a couple of years. They've done
farewell with that. Like it's not a way to build
a team, yeah, but you can fill in some gaps
and you can get you can get some luck there.
We see it. You see this in fantasy all the
time too. Somebody has a guy for a locked tire
and they just get tired of it, like, yeah, tired

(34:06):
to work with you, and somebody else is like I
got an idea and it helps.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Yeah, sometimes you just have to, you know, sometimes it
just helps us stream a hot hand for a week,
you know, and and teams do the same thing, like
you know, I don't I don't know if this might
be Ben mal Jerry's you know hot hand, you know,
where you know, for a month he's you know, produced
decently well as an outfielder, and he's competent at all
three positions. And you know, you got to have guys
like that. You have to have that too, I think,

(34:33):
you know, for certain people I'm sure are what's frustrating
is that, you know, Zach McKinstry and Matt Feeling are
supposed to be those type of depth guys and they've
ended up playing a lot. But that's just because this
has never quite been a complete roster, you know, on
top of you know, the injury troubles they you know,
we're not at a point yet where they have like this,
you know, this locked in roster where you're you're running

(34:54):
the same nine or ten guys out every day in
the same positions, you know. I mean, it's it's still
a bit of a work in progress, and it's it's
closer with Clark there, it's closer with Valencia looking like
he can contribute, but you know, it's it's it's not
a perfect roster. But yeah, I mean, I really did
not like what Scott Harris had to say at the
end of last season. And until that point, I don't

(35:14):
think I had been terribly critical of him, but I
did light him up right there, and that was the
one time where I really just, you know, I was
just like, I'm not having that, Like, you know, you
have to you have to kind of take take the
shots when you're when you're the head guy. And so yeah,
you know, I'm glad that he that he said what
he said. I'm said, he kind of put it all
on himself. And now, can we just like address the

(35:35):
pro scouting with pitching a little bit? Can we find
a specialist in this? Can we can we do something?
Because that's that's still the one flow. There's a lot
to like about the Tigers right now and a lot
to like about their future, but they keep kind of
doing the same things, you know, signing pitchers and one
year deals and you're going to miss on a lot
of those, and that's why those guys are available on

(35:57):
one year deals. But you do have to hit on
one once in a while, you do have to hit
on some relievers from you know, from time to time,
and they've just got to figure this out because what's
frustrating is that, like, you know, the the least impactful
two or three players on this team, by war have
have cratered this season. And that's that's why bullpens are

(36:18):
what they are. That's why bullpens are super frustrating. That's
why even you know, a guy who's worth one war
but is a good closer and locks down a lot
of games for you is worth way more than that,
because you know, that's just that high leverage, you know,
point in the game where having those couple of guys
that can absolutely shut a door on another team is
huge and we just do have not had that and
it's killing him, kill them. But that that the bullpen

(36:42):
has been the the number one problem. And I don't
think it's that close.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
No, it's time and closed. Yeah, the bullpen has been
the biggest thing. I didn't laugh about this. Communist Wika
Scott face speaking of the press conference, was object the
fact there's also he's kept that room empty. He's not
gonna put anything in that room.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Looks like like a hotel room to me, like, I
don't know, it looked like but I don't know if
it's his office or whatever, but I did somebody did
ask earlier about, you know, if sending workmen to San
Diego instead of uh young, And I'm pretty sure like
Harris actually said that Jackson Wolfe was He's like, yeah,
it's basically to get some innings at Triple A. So

(37:20):
I think that they looked at their organization and they're like,
do you have a Like I don't even think that
was part of the deal, right, It was like, hey,
do you have you have do you we could use
for Triple A or like, yeah, you got gage workmen?
They're like, you guys have some, but you can eat
some inningsple sure. So I think that that's not a
big deal. I don't think they viewed workmen as a

(37:42):
long term piece they I mean, they took him long
enough to bring him up even when everybody else was
injured and he was gone pretty quickly.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
So is Jackson Wolfs going to get two starts and
then get defaid.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Gets Yeah, I mean I don't know if he's going
to come up to the big league.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Yeah, I don't know either, But I am, but I am.
You know, the thing long and hard about like, how
are they you know where the last two starts and
each turn through the rotation gonna come from? Right now?

Speaker 3 (38:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (38:07):
The Hayes. Who's maybe maybe they put Drew Anderson back
in as a starter for a little while, or more
likely they do what they usually do and just try
to piece it together.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
You know, I think I think the I think the
hay was based off the way he's we used. I
think he's more likely or him.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Yeah, so I mean Herder gets back. Yeah, they may
go full full is it pitching chaos?

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Yeah, I thought it was funny, how funny it would
be if they if they snuck in again doing it hilarious?

Speaker 2 (38:38):
I know who said that? No one said that Wolf
was on the forty man right, No, but he's but.

Speaker 1 (38:43):
He's saying, but I'm saying like they might end up
pitching him twice and then d f a m which
implies that I think they might call him up and
give him a forty man spot so that he starts
for you know, two games, and then they dfa him
because he's not worth that much. That's all I read.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
Oh that's what Okay, that's what I thought. But by
the way, his only start is only it never was
at America Park three years ago. Yeah the Wolf July
twenty third, the podcast. No, not no, not that Randy
Bay the ways jaffed. But all right, let's move on.
Yeah he's Randy Jack. It was he was at the
Brewers Old Timers game. Home run, didn't he Yeah, hit

(39:16):
a home run. He looked I mean, he just looked
beefed up.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
So there were there were a lot of moves this week,
so I put it in like a slightly different order.
We'll probably go back.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
Actually, I like this, this looks really cool, Like, yeah,
so Sean Gunther, a hero of twenty twenty four gone,
Tom Bruce has gone. Wow, I think's but that CJ. Wanes,
who also got picked up in the from the Red
Sox gone, you were gone. Wow. Yeah, it's funny. Camps
Schuber just made a really good dime in cash the
other day too. He's gone.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
There was another you know that was when all their
outfielders got hurt in the miners at the same time,
so they had to think they brought all these other
guys in and you know he got his one pro
home run. Uh, and so that's good for him.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
Yeah, somebody somebody pointing out the most good believers are
unsuccessful starting pitchers. Yes, note to note to the front office.
That's where they come from. And you might have to
make a tough decision and convert somebody. That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Yeah, why is the check always heard? Pacheck just got
heart this year?

Speaker 3 (40:14):
Right?

Speaker 2 (40:14):
I mean he did?

Speaker 3 (40:15):
Did he go like he said he got? He broke
his hammet. I think it was at the beginning of
last year.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
Yeah, that's real, Okay, Mostly otherwise it's just been a
little little stuff for the most part of hamstring.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
And three or four years ago he got cut by
a cleat and was bleeding all over the place. This
one was, Yeah, he made a funky slide right and
like it was like a pcl like strain or something
like that. It's like, ah, but it's kind of hilarious. Yeah,
he gets back to West Michigan, uh and just nothing
but bombs.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
Yep, yep, yep. The old stopping grounds suddenly hitting the
hitting the crap out of the ball.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
But yeah, we tried to highlight some of that, the
very strange things that are going on with Maxiator right
now for the like one of the more aggressive hitters
of the system. Just they're they're not throwing him a
lot of strikes and he's not expanding, he's taking his walks.
He's almost got more walks and strikeouts now.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
Max Anderson, listener of the show clearly, Yeah no, but
I mean that's what we've been begging for, right Like,
that's that's his one flaw is that he chases too much,
and so he doesn't do could often you know, hobby biasing,
you know, little little flares and ground balls all over
the place when he could be waiting for better pitches
to hit. And he's starting to do that the last

(41:33):
you know month, he's he's been locked in on that
and not chasing very much. And that's that's a great
sign for him. I do hope he gets to get
the call to the show here and they still have Glaver,
but I mean they can they can get at bats
for both of them at some point. Maybe maybe just
kind of wait on Anderson for a few more weeks
so he gets as many reps as possible and then yeah, September,
call up something like that and and start start getting

(41:56):
his feet wet. I guess yeah, I can.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
I can see why Wolf was brought into because I mean,
look at Carl Awards juniors own business being on this
roster anymore. He really does.

Speaker 1 (42:04):
Yeah, that's kind of a weird experience experience.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
I was speaking of weird experiments. By the way. I
was just talking Chris about this last week because I
was I played softball. Shout out to uh Nick on
our team. He was playing against uh Dreell Cotton, who
was in the Michigan Baseball that that uh that professional
Wooden lead that's uh yeah. So he was pitching. He
was pitching, and I was like, hey, he was in
the Major is not too long ago, So I mean,

(42:27):
Carl Edwards Junior should be in that league at some
point soon. Sounds so harsh, but you know.

Speaker 3 (42:32):
And you were able to make it out to the
Veto Tricko or whatever company football thing too, right.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (42:40):
Yeah, I was not feeling well home Saturday again and
so I couldn't make it.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
But shout out to Veto and those guys. But a
very good crew over there, John and all those guys
over there. We lost twenty eight to twenty five or
something like that.

Speaker 1 (42:55):
So yeah, LoveFest.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
Yeah, Wolf getting a dude, he's not gonna get called up.
I don't think he's gonna be wor he's yeah, he's
just triblely a thought or at this point.

Speaker 1 (43:03):
Yeah, yeah, he's twenty he's twenty seven years old, just
so people know. I mean, he's basically just like any
of the other guys who've been pitching at Toledo who
you know, Troy Watson, that that type of that type
of level guy. So he's yeah, I don't know if
they're gonna use them at all either, if he's just
just you know, just a little filler depth.

Speaker 3 (43:19):
Yeah, I mean he's he's a he's a lefty and
he throws like tops out of ninety ninety one. He's
got like six pitches. It's a funky angle and it's
like seven seven foot three of extension or whatever. So
there's things there that they like. But I again, I
don't think that this was like this was a guy
that they really targeted to add to the system. It
was like we need some inn ex centric play.

Speaker 1 (43:37):
Yeah, yeah, sounds like yeah, and that mud Hen's roster
is a little rough right now. Hopefully John Peck hurries
back so we have him in Callahan to watch, but
it's a it's a little grim at the moment. No, no,
uh r one.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
No, you're fine, man, No, you're you're absolutely fine. I
just I didn't think he was hurt that often. I
just forgot that he was hurt early in the year.
That's that's not me.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
All right.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
Let's move on to Eerie, which I'll be this weekend. Uh,
either Friar or Saturday or Saturday in the Sunday either
or two days. I like how you put open here, Chris.
There's no touch. He'll be, he'll be. He's already got
his locker and all that stuff taking care of, so
he'll be out there. So but the Sea Wolves get

(44:19):
now another bat for their playoff run, and I think
it's it really stands out well too, because that outfield
for Eerie right now has been a mess. They really
needed somebody like this.

Speaker 3 (44:33):
Yeah, I mean, Myers was hurt and then they playing
Pennington out there some and now he's on the sixty
day IL. So they've got Stevenson, They've they're putting Max
Burt out there. I think Urt. Who did they have
in the right the other day?

Speaker 2 (44:43):
It was Peyton? Yeah, yeah, it hurts, you're right, Bert's
been playing out there.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
They called up Prostache in Soyka. They've been up there
trying to help out. So yeah, I mean it's uh,
one thing we haven't discussed. Maybe I don't think it's
just just on a side note, the names, just the
names they acquired this deadline are pretty fantastic. Right, You've
got you got Hope, you got Wolf, you got Cash,
you got River like they've they've they've done well on

(45:12):
the name front.

Speaker 2 (45:14):
So yeah, they get cash and you get cash Kuiper
and now you've got cash a field. So it's like
it's a bad cop drama waiting happened really.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
Like the Cashi they almost got.

Speaker 3 (45:27):
You know, that's that stupid dad joke. I made this
the other day at the discord about you know, you
know five years ago we had Johnny Cash and Bob
Hope and Steve Jobs and now we've got no jobs,
no Hope, but no cash. Like you know, they wouldn't
got Hope, but they got cash at the and they
have job.

Speaker 1 (45:48):
Yeah, we're in the we're in the job.

Speaker 3 (45:53):
Yeah. I don't know if there's been a brand new
I I know that the Alex Uh, those guys made
like a Star Wars Tis Wars. That a new hope message, right,
just having fun doing Uh the river of dreams like
song and the river runs through it. I had all
that good stuff.

Speaker 1 (46:11):
What was that? What was that incredible fangrafts title in
a in a What was it?

Speaker 3 (46:17):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (46:17):
The one by Erica long Hagen? Yeah, in the dark
right in the in the darkness of all I say,
I got it right here. Uh so do do schoobl
school trade to see? All these trades happened? So it's
got very real quick here. Yeah, I'll find it. You
guys keep talking here.

Speaker 3 (46:38):
It's the valley of darkness, a river of hope.

Speaker 2 (46:42):
Yeah, there we go towards valley.

Speaker 1 (46:44):
Yeah yeah, nice work, Nice work, mister long and take
an er mister Bauman, whoever came up with the headline.

Speaker 3 (46:52):
But yes, so this is gonna be a pretty nasty
middle of the order for pictures to navigate. We talked
about it. And meanwhile, you've got Stevenson and Graham, you know,
getting on base, stealing all over the place, and you
got you got hope Personno had uh We're I was
calling it a Thanos at bat the other day, right,
like it was just it was just inevitable. He got

(47:13):
down oh two and worked at full fouled off a
couple of pitches and they got a breaking ball below
the zone and it's like, yeah, I'll just go ahead
and hit a home run to put us ahead.

Speaker 1 (47:22):
That was.

Speaker 3 (47:25):
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was outstanding. Uh. You know
Lorenzo you see, is still having contact issues, but taking
his walks and in the ball hard when he does
put it in play.

Speaker 1 (47:33):
Jenkins and Big B just keep hitting, like not necessarily
for power, but they're just just constantly hitting. So yeah,
I mean you got two speed guys at the top
who are getting on base, and then you've got three
mashers in a row you can line up and yeah,
you've got some just solid double A hitters backing them
up now too.

Speaker 3 (47:49):
Yeah, I think Jenkins is second in the Eastern League
and RBIs they said the other day. And then you
know Exposito is having a good year, so that the Yeah,
this is a pretty formidable line up now, you know,
it depends a pitch.

Speaker 1 (47:59):
You have like eighteen home runs now, yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (48:01):
Think so something like that. Yeah, yeah, you watched the
mint and start didn't look pretty good.

Speaker 2 (48:06):
Yeah, yeah, he had been real quick. I was just
getting bring that up. He dominated the strike zone, he
was able. That was like the best start I've seen
him pitched since early West Michigan days. That was his
best start in Double A. I thought that he was
able to He got head early accounts and was able
to kind of establish himself. And the hit he had
wasn't really that big of a heart contact either, So

(48:28):
the walks I think again a little bit of a
generous strike zone as we know in Double A. But no,
he looked really good.

Speaker 1 (48:36):
Yeah, yep, that was nice to see.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
Now we go to the West the white Caps here,
and the white Caps are getting some pitching help here.

Speaker 1 (48:43):
But I'm sorry, can we do? What can we do?
Andrew sears for a second too, like, Yeah, do you
guys think Andrews has any chance to get called up
this year because there's some needs and maybe they might
just move him, or do you think they'll just kind
of keep his progression steady and he'll he'll be into
Leado next year and we'll just see how it goes.

Speaker 3 (48:59):
I glad, Chris, No, I mean, you know, he's got
to be added to the forty man. So whenever there's
somebody like that, I think there's a slightly higher chance.
I doubt we see him up in the big leagues
this year. Yeah, I think it's it's theoretically possible, but
I think you know, they mentioned that Herder is going
to start or rehab soon, and I'll think that they

(49:21):
I still think that they like summers and you got it,
so a glimpse of what they like about summers. The
other day when he was it was like, wow, now
you need that every time.

Speaker 1 (49:30):
So I don't know, Yeah, they don't. They don't necessarily
need a lefty. In fact, I kind of thought they
might sneaky, low key trade a lefty believer in the deadline,
but I don't know if they got any calls on that.

Speaker 3 (49:43):
Yeah you think. I almost think that somebody like Holton
would have a lot of value to somebody out there,
but who knows. But yeah, so I think series was
probably a good candidate to go to the AFL though
as yeah, that season and yeah, we'll see they might
Yeah he needs.

Speaker 1 (50:02):
Yeah could But as far as Jake Miller, finally, I
think they're gonna I don't think they're gonna rush him,
like as Chris said.

Speaker 2 (50:09):
I I just agree with Chris. The thing is that
I think series is gonna get some more innings, and
it's all the rehab back and forth. But overall, I
still think he needs to felt that they're pitching a
consistent basis.

Speaker 1 (50:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (50:22):
Still, I still think he needs just a slightly not
much more development worked a little bit.

Speaker 1 (50:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
Oh, a good call here by Brandon. What about Marco?
Did he threw one hundred? Yeah? You know what had
him and his look, Chris.

Speaker 3 (50:33):
You know he's more consistently. Yeah, he he gave up
a lot of hits. They were not from what I watched,
it was it was like, oh that sucks, Like it
was like real bummer stuff like that. He didn't deserve that.
And he's he'll still show you an above average slider
and he's got feel for a change up to It's

(50:56):
just you know, he hung a slider a time or
two as well. I got hit. He's just coming back
from injury, so I'm gonna give him some time. But
it is it is a good arm and he is
kind of a sneaky dark horse forty man ad potentially.

Speaker 2 (51:09):
So all right, let's see here, Let's go to West
Michigan now, and so the white Caps, by the way,
they took on the Marlins affiliate Marlins. They had a
really good treat deadline. I mean I didn't think they
would go for all as they did if you guys

(51:30):
saw that coming.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
I can't remember what they did other than trading Liam Hicks,
which made le to the to the rais.

Speaker 3 (51:35):
Did they get anything, They got a couple of believers
for yeah. Yeah. Fairbanks has been a real bummer for them.

Speaker 1 (51:42):
Yeah, which is too bad because I love Pete, love
some Pete.

Speaker 2 (51:48):
So as far as the white Caps go, you know, Lucas,
also Chris, you can go into a little bit about
the Jacobs seems like he's kind of found his place
a little bit in West Michigan.

Speaker 3 (51:59):
Yeah, I mean he looked looks strong. It's not a
particularly great line up there for the Bloyd team, but yeah,
he seems to have been settling in a little bit.
A lot of his issues tend to be, you know,
finding the heart of the zone or missing the zone
and then having to come into the part of the plate.
And he's one of those guys where I think it's
very important for him to get ahead, and when he does,
he's got a couple options and it's tough to cover

(52:21):
all three of them. But it's you know, I've been
pleased with his season overall. It got a little ugly
and bumpy here and it may still continue. You know,
he's given up a lot of home runs, which I
did see. I think I heard hasty talk about it
that the run environment in the Midwestleague is way up
this year for reasons that nobody can quite figure out.
Like I think I want to say that that West

(52:45):
Michigan's got like the third lowest ERA this year as
a team, and it would have been like the second
highest last year, something crazy like that. So I don't,
I don't. Who knows what's going on there.

Speaker 1 (52:55):
It has been hot, but it wasn't hot to start
the year. No, unseasonably cold for what.

Speaker 3 (53:02):
And yeah, Alla Salt just continues to roll along. He didn't.
I think he got through five with just one run
and then he actually they're letting these guys go out
for the sixth inning finally, and I think that's when
he gave him a second run maybe uh, And it
wasn't even him, it was like, you know, he left
a guy on and then want me, Basquez, I think
let the run in. So it's it's nicey these guys

(53:22):
get stretched out a little bit. I I kind of
when they got Brady Smith, I kind of put him
in my prospect breakings in my head, right in that
tier with l A Sault and uh with Whiska. It's
kind of like these really interesting younger arms that I
don't know we'll see.

Speaker 1 (53:38):
But maybe maybe have like two good pitches, but need
to develop a couple of things as well as their command. Yeah, yeah,
but but some interesting traits. Obviously la Sault's got the
extension and yeah, there's there's there's stuff to like about
each of them. They're just a little bit raw, and
it was it was.

Speaker 3 (53:53):
Fun seeing in aspitall and and Ancony get their chance
up in high Aspital. He's still trying to find his swing,
I think, you know, in terms of hitting the ball
hard again. But and Ancony is struggling a little bit
like you you'd expect. But it's early yet. I did
put up and it as a bummer, but I put
that number up there with Rainer because it was a
rough month for him. Yeah, and this may just be

(54:16):
part of the Bryce Rainner experience, but you do wonder
if he's just dealing with fatigue or maybe it's some
some you know, leftover injury. Like it's one thing for
him to strike out a lot, it's another thing to
like not slug at all. Yeah, which is kind of surprising.
You know, he's a guy that just is made out
of exit velocity.

Speaker 1 (54:37):
Yeah, he's hitting the ball hard, but there hasn't been
much in the air.

Speaker 3 (54:42):
Yeah, he's got a huge ground ball right, which is
an issue as well. But you know, development takes time.
And again I think we pointed out several times this
is a guy with like maybe one hundred pro games
now maybe slightly more, so there's.

Speaker 1 (54:55):
Just a little more Yeah. Yeah, And I mean the
swinging strike rate hasn't if I'm I'll have to check again,
but it hasn't really been the big problem. He just
kind of got back to taking a lot of strikes again.
So yeah, I don't know, which is just odd. Like
his approach has been odd this year all around, and
you know, he's tweaked his stance and done a lot
of the different things. But but essentially it's his first

(55:18):
year of development and so there's there's all kinds of
tweaking going on. So you know, some of that isn't
you know, unexpected. At the same time, certainly at thirty
five percent k rate is not what you want to see.
Even if we kind of wipe out the first month
when he was just getting his feet back under him,
it's it's still elevated for a prospect that some people
would have a fifty five grade on, but not not

(55:41):
the hit tool just overall. But yeah, you know, it's
just kind of him working his way back in. So
we'll see how it goes down the stretch in next year.
But I haven't like kelse if I had my opinion
one way or the other based on this, He's still a.

Speaker 3 (55:56):
Lot of fun to watch when especially when he's putting
the bat on the ball and good on defense. Yeah,
there are a couple of interesting questions here. Don said,
any concerns about Hope's hit tool. I think that's kind
of my own only concern with Yeah, yeah, and I
don't think it's gonna you know, I think it's gonna
be like a two forty hitter at best, if that

(56:16):
makes sense. He can put the band on the ball,
but there's some swing and miss, and he swings very
hard and he's got a lot of loss, so that
may be the you know the flaw in his game,
and we'll see if it becomes fatal. But he's got
the power of the speed. I think he's plenty of
armed to be a solid right fielder.

Speaker 1 (56:33):
So he made some adjustments with his swing this year too,
and started hitting velocity a lot better, started taking the
ball the other way a little bit more as well.
I think those are good signs, just that, you know,
I mean, he's twenty one and he's at double A
and he continued to adapt. And it's not like he's
striking out a ton. It's a little on the high side.
But yeah, I mean, I mean, this is just a
lazy comparison, but I just kind of feel like he's

(56:55):
going to be somewhere between Carry Carpenter or and Riley Green,
Like the are like the hit outcomes, but he's faster
and he has a good, good throwing arm, so he's
got those other things that those two guys don't have.
And we'll just we'll just see how much he can
squeeze out of the you know, out of the power
with the hit tool. That isn't Yeah, it isn't ideal,

(57:15):
and it doesn't give us the like the safe, warm,
fuzzy feeling that, you know, Clark and especially McGonagall give
you because you know, you don't know exactly how they're
gonna do. But those guys just hit. They were always
gonna hit. I don't think any of us had had
much concerns that they would just be like overwhelmed and
washed out of the major leagues. You know, with guys
like Rainer and to a lesser degree, Hope, there there

(57:36):
is more of a chance that they're just a bench
piece or you know, a part time player, something along
those lines. But that's just you know, being a riskier
prospect and arguably with more reward in certain respects. Maybe
not McGonagall, but you know, I mean, if Rainer amped
up its hit tool, I mean, this is like a
forty home run shortstop. So you know, yeah, so there's

(57:58):
you know, there's just trade offs there. They're not it's
not as safe because of the hit tool. But at
the same time, both of them could could be absolute monsters.
So you know, have to hope one of one of
the two of them becomes a monster. I'll be thrilled
by the way.

Speaker 2 (58:11):
Hope was what number he was, the top one hundred
right at movie Prospects.

Speaker 3 (58:16):
The MLB.

Speaker 1 (58:17):
I think pipeline, Yeah, pipeline. They might even have had him,
like you know, twenty seventh or something like that, but
he's further down at Fangrafts. And I think Baseball America too.

Speaker 3 (58:27):
The number one rule is to just use whatever site
has your prospect, the highest argue argues your point for it.
Switch sites because because Fangrafts has River Ryan in like
the top twenty five. Yeah, they still have Presenio and
Loronzo and Brainer and they're all pretty good, high high
on Tigger's prospects. Now, Jake, Jake asked, could we see

(58:48):
Rayner can still moved to the bullpen with the additions?

Speaker 2 (58:51):
Actually, I really liked that idea. I was just gonna say,
I really like the idea. If he can air it
out like he was before with the heavy sinker, that
would be a good idea for him.

Speaker 3 (58:59):
Yeah, and you know they've cut some relievers down there.
I think what C. J. Wynes was down there, and
so was Thomas Press.

Speaker 1 (59:05):
I believe so they made so and Moses came back right,
he's rehab. I did not see it, but I didn't either,
but but I saw I saw that he did.

Speaker 3 (59:15):
Yeah, it's just good to see him back in the mouth.
So yeah, uh, and then we had some more fun
promotions in Lakeland. This is kind of what we were
waiting for, you know, every year that that they bring
up the guys from the Complex League and uh some
some really nice, interesting early highlights from all these guys.

(59:36):
Got to see you know, pretty nasty deep apo double
off the bat of Michael Olivetto that makes you dream
on a lot of things. Yeah. Yeah, And and Ronald
Ramirez is just hitting lasers all over the field. He's
a guy that we we haven't talked about a ton,
but he hit really well in the Complex League this year.
He hit really well in his first year in the
in the DSL. I don't think he played pretty arly

(59:57):
well in the Complex last year, but uh but yeah,
he's hitting in the battle all over the place. And
on how Dela Santos is also looking pretty good. Looks
looks good on defense. Uh so those are there's fun
guys to watch.

Speaker 1 (01:00:11):
Yeah, it's a very interesting athletic position group down down
there all around, even with with that's been all gone,
you know, I mean, I don't know what I don't
I don't have a whole lot of faith and seals
is hitting ability necessarily, but he's an interesting player to
watch and obviously I like Pinto so and was it
doom is nil? Is that how that's again? Somebody corrected

(01:00:31):
it the other day. I think it was Terry.

Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
I think Mail, I believe dou Manil.

Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
Yeah, that's right, I think that was how it was. So. Yeah,
so you know, I mean, like once again, like a
bunch of athletic dudes who probably will never hit enough,
but have have power, have some arm strength, have speed.
You know. It's it's just that turnover in the system
that we're seeing where there's just a lot more athletes
all throughout. And that's definitely been an emphasis from the

(01:00:56):
from the front office.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
Yeah, uh, the bloc is listen to. Lakeland's roster hasn't
been active, and I'm sure we'll probably you might see
him this week.

Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
Actually, if he's on Lakeland's roster, then yeah, that everybody
got sent to the f CL roster. So if he's
been moved to the Lakeland roster, then that's a good
example or a good good indication that yes, he will
be playing there, which makes sense. You know, he was
their highest drafted position player. I believe right, Yeah, forgetting
the second round and second rounder? That was the second round, right,

(01:01:24):
I think?

Speaker 1 (01:01:25):
So, yeah, why do I keep forgetting about time?

Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
Man?

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Yes, Time Madden will probably start a few games. Good
part either, that's what who I think.

Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
They seem to like with both of those guys. It
wouldn't shock me if they do the the you know opener, Yeah,
I like that. Yeah Salsado, Uh yeah, I mean he's he's.
That was an interesting game because they.

Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
Had who started that game with Wilson or Hall?

Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
I don't remember. Hall came in and and and as
a reliever, and it was the best I've ever seen him.
Look his his two seamer was dancing away from hitters
and it was like, wow, this is okay, I finally
see it. You gotta keep doing that. But yeah, that
that looked great. So that was that was good to
see what Whisky continues to look strong? Yeah, Seal said,

(01:02:14):
okay man. And then it was Hall. I forgot who
started though, but.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
I was gonna say they look like they are Hall, Like,
didn't the Hall look like he changed them to cants
a little bit?

Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
You know, I didn't. I haven't seen him pitch enough
to like really discern that it's entirely possible, and it
may be that they found something that helps him throw
more strikes.

Speaker 2 (01:02:36):
And maybe it's just because since the day he got drafted,
from when he was drafted and then we the time,
I said, I think he just posted his first appearance
in Lakeland against dundeedon It's just something looks different to him.
To me, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
Yeah, I mean, we can go back and take a
look for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
I mean I felt the same way, but I can't.
But I just cannot literally remember what he looked like. Yeah,
go back and yeah, we got to go back and
do a little read.

Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
Yeah, because I was in there going, okay, I know
that was when you posted that highlight, Chris. I was like, okay,
I remember seeing him against Duneed where you walked like
the first two bats, like his first day game against
Duneed and last year. Yeah, and he was trying to
like it. Just something about his delivery looked different. I'll
have to go back, but.

Speaker 3 (01:03:17):
Yeah, yeah, that's up on the YouTube page. You just
gotta go back and find it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Speaking of the YouTube page, by the way, thank you
everybody who checked this out. Our biggest weekend We've had
a long time for checking out the clips and what
have you of of the Tigers who they acquired, and
then just the entire drafts show and everything. So thank you.
That was much appreciated and not gonna lie. I am

(01:03:43):
burned to a Chris two hours of baseball conversation. I
still kinda knock out an article before we go to
Bend tonight for roundtable. But I just, uh, yeah, it's
gonna be. Tigers will have a three game series starting
with Seattle tomorrow. Seattle's new looked Louis Luis was gone.
See I'm made another tree too, I think as well.

(01:04:03):
I can't remember who they might just mentioned that.

Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
I'm sure they made. Everybody made a lot of tread.
Let me look, I feel like everybody. I feel like
everybody made do.

Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
The big thing, like, you know, like they didn't go
crazy because there was some rumor about Kate Anderson versus
for Mason Miller at one point.

Speaker 3 (01:04:19):
Yeah, but I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Yeah, that's right, yeah, Ward, So more likely they'll be
terrorizing the Tigers next three days or so and after
that before they start seriously in San Francisco. So, uh,
Tiger's sitting two and a half back on the wild
card at the moment, but uh, it's gonna be a
brand new division. Like I said, the Visions mas Oils
made trades. Yeah, all sorts of chaos, mass hysteria, hysteria.

Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
And they're on the road, so like for the Tigers,
this is probably not a bad time to be on
a nice long road trip where everybody just kind of
like bonds together whatever you know about whatever happened. And
they'll add a couple of guys to take school in
miz of Spots and try to keep it going and
we'll the same if they can. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Absolutely, But thanks so much for watching, Thanks so much
for listening, and go to bless you Boys dot com.
Check out all the great content over there. They do
a phenomenal job.

Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
Thanks.

Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
Brandon is also want to plug.

Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
No, no, that's it, but you guys did really awesome
coverage and it helps me too because you guys pull
so much video and I just want to say thanks
for that. And yeah, it feels like I wrote a
whole book in about three and a half days and
also argued with five hundred people angrily, and I am exhausted. Yeah,
I'm glad. I'm just glad this is over. We need
I need a day at least.

Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Thanks for tuning in frames and rhythm. Thanks for a
lot of the We had a lot of new people
sum for our super Friends things, so we really appreciate that.
And again all the super Prison, super Friends, super chats,
discord people and all that new scenes are not new people.
A lot of new people in here. Go ahead, Chris.

Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
Yeah, no, I would just say I'm gonna I've got
a Mayfield start that I recorded, although I may want
to go get the one before or it depends, like
neither of them have great angles and they both have
below the one at home the Belo you talked about
it when we showed it. It pops up a little late.
And then the one that the start before. He got

(01:06:13):
nine strikeouts on fifty six pitches, scoreless. You can see
the rapids.

Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
I love his delivery. I mean he's a big he's
he's real smooth. And then yeah, the arm is real
quick at the end too, which bodes well for the
for the change up, which is you know, his best pitch,
So yeah, developing him.

Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
That's it's just funny to me that I was you're
talking about arguing with people same thing. I got, secretary's
doing it. After a while, I'm like, why am I
doing this? You know, it's just everybody's like especially at
work today, somebody said something I snapped and I'm like,
I'm sorry, it's just a trade deadline.

Speaker 1 (01:06:43):
Thing and what it is. As soon as I feel
myself like get to that point where I'm gonna get
mad at someone irrationally or I'm gonna snap that, then
I'm done. Then I have to clock out for a
little while and then I come back for more later.
But yeah, you know, as soon as it gets to
where I'm just about to just like light people up,
like you idiots, yeah, walk away. And I have a
high tolerance too, so I know if I'm getting to
that point, it's probably not me. It's just the volume

(01:07:06):
of this.

Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
I was gonna say, that's saying something for you, because
I mean me, it's like every other I have to
have to step back and go who is this person?
And usually it's like it's not even a Tiger fan.
It's just somebody trying to troll just to be a dick.

Speaker 3 (01:07:19):
So that is what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
But uh, we'll see you. Uh what's up.

Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
I was just gonna. Yeah. I mean, this doesn't need
to be talked about it. I was just I had
that random uh go went back and found a Conan
clip this morning. That great. That was great. I wish
I could edit, I like make two type I was
in there, but yeah, it just was like I wonder
if I could find that, and I finally bought like
wherever I remember watching it when laughing because like, hey,

(01:07:44):
they're talking about the Tigers and you can go back
and like there's internet archive of all the episodes around
then there's a lot of they did one of the
world series with like casting actors and like I'm trying
to remember who was Jim Leland, but they Yeah, a
lot of Tigers.

Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
That's great.

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
I love yeah because I like the uh I like
the Wroter John John Glee. Uh yeah, he's from He's
from Southfield.

Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
He must be because there was no other reason anybody
was paying attention to the Tigers in the nineties. Yeah,
not not in New York anyway.

Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
You know that that that period of time. But uh,
we'll talk to you Thursday for Morci Metrics and otherwise
every self. Great evening, h
