Speaker 1 (00:09):
Welcome to the Favorite's presented by DraftKings. The crown is yours.
We are an Action Network podcast. I'm branding Kravitz back
at It. As we stroll through our first week without
football since late August, the first Lady of the pod,
Kendrick Middleton, is here, the prime Minister of Degenerate Nation, Stucky.
On today's episode, we've got another special guest joining us,
(00:31):
this time to chat about the NFC side of the
Super Bowl equation, a Seahawks insider. And by next week
we're gonna be locked and loaded with our official plays.
I have already made seven bets for Super Bowl sixty.
My card is filling up, Stucky. How is your sheet
looking the week prior?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Still?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
God, I still have to go through props. I did
my first go through. I spent like the last forty
eight hours on college basketball stuff, so I got to
get back into props. Did a lot of the game stuff. Really,
I can't wait to talk about that the game next week,
and the x's and o's, and there are so many
fascinating angles that like I just keep uncovering, and a
(01:16):
lot of it's just what is McDonald going to do?
What is McDaniel going to do Howard like that chess
match is going to be awesome, and that's usually what
determines these games. As of right now, like I'm lead,
my numbers say small into the pats and above forty five,
I would look at the under. I do think it's
going to be a lower scoring game. But as of
(01:39):
right now, the only thing that I've placed are a
bunch of Hunter Henry props have him over catches, over
receiving yards, over longest receiving yard, our over longest catch,
I think sixteen and a half and seventeen and a half.
I also played some long shot Henry stuff, mainly just
(02:02):
leading receiver in the game he actually played. I forgot
about this that he played Seattle last year and McDonald defense.
It was early in the season and he finished with
I think nine catches for one hundred and five yards.
But well, I'll talk about more about this next week.
But the defense kind of like funnels the tight ends,
they're pretty vulnerable there. There is some risk that McDonald
(02:23):
does say, look, I know Henry is your you know,
second primary option. You know you have Booty is the
deep threat. You know, digs will play a lot in
the slot, I imagine. But McDonald, what could just say,
like we're taking away Henry always a risk in the
Super Bowls, but I thought there was some value in
(02:45):
some of his numbers. So I have some some Hunter
Henry stuff and the rest I'll be filling out over
the next four to five days. There's just so much
to dig into a lot of this with the Super
Bowl is there's two weeks, so you can there can
be some form of you know, over analysis, right, Yeah,
(03:11):
you can go down so many wormholes and you can
you can convince yourself well this and then so my
advice to people, I mean, generally speaking, you want to
look more towards unders than overs if you want to
like diversify, But if you're just looking to have fun
(03:31):
for entertainment, my advice is, and this is what I do. Primarily,
I'm not a props player except in these big games,
national titles, a couple of NFL playoff games and then
the Super Bowl. Target a guy or two that you
like because of a matchup and like as as a
horse or two, and then just ride them a couple
of different ways in the prop market. Takes them take
some long shot flyers. That's my advice if you want
(03:55):
to do it recreationally. So but yeah, we'll have much
more next week. That's uh what I'll be spending part
of my next five days on.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
So I have.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
I think if we do a plant the flag next week,
which I'm sure we will, it's gonna be on this first.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
If someone ask you for your place, I don't think.
I don't. I'm kidding ouch.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
I feel like I got So what do you got?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
What you got?
Speaker 4 (04:21):
What I know?
Speaker 3 (04:22):
You got Halani.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Hallani over one and a half receptions.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
I also parlayed that with a Kenneth Walker touchdown for
the fun of it to Mario Douglas under eleven and
a half receiving yards first quarter under eight and a half.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
My god, is.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
This trend strong? With teams just completely tightening up early
on in games? You got two of the best defenses
in the league. So can I unofficial there's.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Not a play market too, but that I used to
bet that every year. Evan can confirm. I think it
used to always be ten and a half. It depends
on the total, obviously, but with a total in this
range you would be able to get ten ten and
a half. But yeah, I mean if you go back
historically in Super Bowls there it's usually like three nothing
(05:06):
seven nothing, zero zero. There's a lot of feeling out.
There's a lot of but the you know, the market
catches up to these things. There's there's a lot of
and I can see that this specifically in this game,
right you have Sam Darnold, who can be turnover browne,
and you know you have the Seahawks defense. You have
Drake may who is has been turnover prone with fumbles,
(05:33):
shaky offensive line, they might want to protect him early.
See what the Seahawks offense has got, So there's a
little bit of like, hey, let's know they maybe they
just throw a caution into the wind and come out
guns of blazing. But in the past, this is how
teams would approach it. With this in this specific scenario,
I could see both just playing it a little close
(05:54):
to the vest early on. And this game is starting
pretty slow. So if you like the over, I'm not
gonna tell you not to bet the over pregame, but
maybe take a piece off and wait to see if
you can also add a better position live because I
(06:14):
do think that this game could start slow and then
potentially open up later and then if one team has
to play catch up, that's when the turnovers could come
into play.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
So this is where you were really laugh at me.
Kendrick has already given me shit for this. The coffee
was really hitting yesterday. I bet the Falcons to win
next year's Super Bowl. That's that's how. That's how in
the Weeds we got seventy five to one. So thank you,
thank you for the call out.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Kendrick. You immediately.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
How did you get how did you go from breaking
down the game to betting the Falcons?
Speaker 4 (06:48):
So I think it was the Todd Monkin higher.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
I think that this would be the most Browns thing
ever to let Kevin Stefanski go bring in a head
coach that nobody else was trying to higher. And then
he and then he goes to Atlanta, who at the
tail end of the season one of the hottest teams
in the league. Thank god for all these other NFC
teams they didn't make it into the playoffs. They've got
(07:11):
a loaded roster, they've got just enough money to spend
in free agency to fill some holes. It is about
Penix taking that next step. But it's a very winnable
division and if they're in the playoffs, which they should
be sitting on a seventy five to one.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Yeah, I'll take my chances with a coaching upgrade too.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Why not just wait for them to win the division
like a normal.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Person, because you're not getting seventy five to one. When
they win the league, I can lock that up now.
I might even bet that too.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
So you're like the meme of the kid who is
like screaming in the back seat and the mom's like,
why can't you just be normal?
Speaker 6 (07:46):
And he's just yelling.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
That's why plant the flag for Super Bowl sixty is
Falcon super Bowl sixty one.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
I know, I don't mind it as a long shot.
I think Pennix. I mean he has to become more
consistent and more accurate.
Speaker 6 (07:59):
Jah doesn't have an a c L left.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yeah, that's that I was gonna say. That's my concern
is all of his injuries. He should be They say
he's gonna be ready by the start of the season.
I believe, but.
Speaker 6 (08:10):
They should give the kid a prosthetic leg.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
He's he is a professional rehaber for a c L injuries,
so he knows.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
He knows until next one.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
It's like it's like me, I have ripped this ear
and half so many times. I don't have enough cartilage
for them to sew it back together. So I just
permanently have a pac Man ear that's gonna be his
a CL next year.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Wait, what is going on with your head?
Speaker 7 (08:34):
What?
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Wait?
Speaker 6 (08:35):
Hold on, let me see if I get close.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Enough, how is this? What?
Speaker 5 (08:38):
Oh my god, my Michael Pennock's ear right here?
Speaker 1 (08:43):
The YouTube views just got steamed. Do you want to
explain that to us or should we just move on?
Speaker 7 (08:52):
No?
Speaker 5 (08:52):
I just I've ripped it so many times in sports,
I don't have enough cartilage left for them to fix it.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
That's literally going to be his a c L.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
All right, Jack young Blood, that's pretty bad ass. All right, Stucky,
you have a random question for us this week.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Hey, this is a dumb question.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Let me ask you a personal question kind of question?
Speaker 8 (09:09):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (09:10):
This question?
Speaker 8 (09:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:12):
All right, you gotta think this. You have to answer
very quick. Do you have a pen and paper or.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
I can Yeah, I can put it in my notes app.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Yeah, put it in your notes app. All right, So
you gotta answer just right because you both can't shout
out the answer. So I want you to write down
in your phone or wherever what first comes to mind,
Because you're gonna be in a panicked state and you
have to decide right away. Your house. Hopefully this doesn't
(09:43):
happen in real life, but your house is on fire.
You have thirty seconds to get out safely. All of
the living beings or creatures in your house will will
get out. What you have thirty seconds? What are you
adding to it from your house to bring out?
Speaker 6 (10:04):
I am such an insane person.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
I already have an emergency box of all my important
documents in my passport in my closet.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Nothing else, Ah.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
I get three items you said.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Well, just whatever you can give thirty seconds.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
So like, if my pets are fine, I'm gonna grab
that emergency box and probably my laptop.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
That's a good idea, having an emergency box I have.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
You can get fireproof boxes online. They're a little expensive,
but they're worth it one hundred percent in my opinion.
I have my passport, all of my important documentation, my
family jewelry, like everything in this box and it's fireproof.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yeah, I'm a fireproof safe. But I don't have any
of my important documents in there.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Oh man, So like it could could be.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
It could be like five items if you can like
socise matters no pun intended, like whatever you can grab
in thirty seconds and get out what did you first
think of? And you can't like this is a split second.
That's why I wanted you to just right away. I think,
is there something sentimental? Is there something super valuable in
(11:13):
your house? Maybe I'm just trying to find out so
I can rob your house, But uh what what came
to mind?
Speaker 1 (11:22):
I'm realizing how panicked that would be, and how little
I would grab by, how hard this was to write along?
Speaker 6 (11:27):
Well, you not thought about this before.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
This is why boys are so insane, because the long
term thinking and planning that women have is nuts.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
I just I don't know, there's really I don't really
have a lot of stuff that I can't live without,
so as long as so my first was my wallet
so that I don't have to go through that rigamarole
like updating everything.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Grab my wallet, my radio equipment because the station would
charge me for that probably.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
And then my and then my cal Ripkens signed a
baseball bat from the nineteen ninety three MLB All Star Game,
which it's in the garage too, so that'll be an
easy one.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
As I make my way out of the house, you can.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Be running out of the house with radio equipment on
in a bath. They're going to arrest you for seva five. Yeah.
I thought about this and I was like, I really
don't know. I mean, my what do I collect that
I love? I mean, I have my book I have
a thousand over a thousand books. Like they're gone.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
That's that would suck, right, let those go.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Those are gone. My bar had a huge bar collect
like liquor collection.
Speaker 6 (12:33):
Is just a bomb.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
They're gone. Like, so definitely we've got my I thought,
I said, I've got my passport, my laptop, wallet and
uh oh this, I'm gonna look like a crazy person too.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I have a.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
I'll get this right here.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Oh we get props on today's Oh wow, we're gonna
doesn't know that pre super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Super Bowl is gonna.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Sword from this is from my great grandfather who was
in the Swiss.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Guard and you talked about him having a bat.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Yeah, and I'm coming out of the sword.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Yeah, your s is definitely go to jail.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
So the passport on the sword is on the run.
But I don't think Kentucky that's probably pretty normal.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
But I don't have. Yeah, I don't have like a
sentimental thing that I would have to grab, So yeah,
it was mine.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Wouldn't hit me unto like ten years down the road,
I'd be like, oh shit, I should have grabbed that
thing when my house burned down.
Speaker 6 (13:35):
I think that this is everyone's lesson.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Go online right now and order yourself a fireproof box.
If you've learned anything from anybody today, there you go.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Heaven. Do you have anything that you were like, I
gotta get this.
Speaker 7 (13:48):
I have some clay from Rolling Garros, then I think
I would probably grab like I have some items on
my desk that are valuable to me, Like I have
some water from like some canal, like you know, just stuff,
and I travel, and I've got like a memorabilia.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
Like the Taylor Swift Rain show.
Speaker 7 (14:04):
Yes, perfect, yes, but I think it's like more of
a memorabilia thing, like I have a bunch of items
like that. I also have a Paul la Duca bobblehead
that would probably.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Have to come with me.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Paul Laduca.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Throw back to early action day.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
I picture Evans standing outside of his burning apartment just
holding a cup like I got my water, So we're good.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
And my Clay Yes exactly. Oh all fuck okay suck.
That was great. That was great.

Seattle back in the Super Bowl for the first time
since twenty fifteen. They're the favorites. The line parked at
minus four and a half. What can we expect?
Speaker 4 (15:50):
What do we need to know?
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Let's find out from our Seattle source, Nick Lee is
at Nick.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Lee fifty one on the Bird app.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
He's the Birdman on the Bird app, contributor for Emerald
City Spectrum and the Locked On Seahawks podcast. Nick, thanks
for taking some time to chat with us so that
we can dig in to the NFC side of the equation.
Speaker 8 (16:12):
I'm truly honored to be here. Thanks guys. When you
reached out, I couldn't have been happier. I've been really
looking forward to this. I love what you guys do,
so I.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Will thank you for flattering us. You didn't have to
say that. I will start with this. Let's talk about
the most important position of all your squad let Geno
Smith Walk they signed Sam Darnold to that three year,
one hundred million dollar contract. What was your opinion on
that at the time, and how does that compare to
how you feel about it now.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
As we inch closer to Super Bowl Sunday.
Speaker 8 (16:42):
Well, to move on from Geno at the time fell, okay,
just because there seemed to have been some sort of
souring on Geno and Mutual. There's a contract dispute and.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
The sides weren't seeing eye to eye.
Speaker 8 (16:57):
And I'm not sure how much him and Nick Mike
McDonald really truly saw I to I because he was
more of a Pete Carroll guy, because Pete Carroll brought
him in and had that twenty twenty two season.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
So the moving on from Gino made sense. But of course,
with the roster the Seahawks had, you're.
Speaker 8 (17:12):
Wondering, okay, who's going to come in and maybe help
the Seahawks compete because this is not a rebuilding roster.
And the signing of Sam Donald after the Minnesota season,
of course, we all know how it ended, but it
gave me hope actually, which is weird because most people like, oh, yeah,
they move on from Geno Smith, you signed Sam Donald.
I have more hope. Now, that's kind of how I felt,
(17:33):
but that wasn't the prevailing narrative. But I also saw
what happened when the Seahawks moved on from Russell Wilson,
where that was painful, but I think in the end
that has moved to being a positive. Of course, with
everything else going on, so I had it basically comes
down to I had faith in John Schneider and this
front office, and if they saw a need to move
(17:55):
on from Geno and sign Sam Donald, they've basically at
this point they've earned our trust, and I would say
that's worked out pretty okay.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
I think the best organizations and sports are ones that
just earn the trust of their fans when they're able
to make big moves and they don't get a big
backlash from it because it's worked out in the past. Now,
I've done a lot of work on the running back
situation going up against New England because the Pats' run
defense is stiff. It'll be the stiffest run defense that
(18:27):
Seattle has gone up against so far in the playoffs,
which isn't the highest bar to cross at this point,
but the team was able to get by without Zach
Charboney in the NFC Championship game. Throughout the season, it
was pretty much an even split. It was Sharbonay, it
was Kenneth Walker. Now it's all on kW three. Is
this where his absence is missed or do you think
(18:50):
they're going to be able to get by without him?
Just fine, because it's a one game sample. We're not
talking about trying to get by without the tandem over
a one or two month stretch.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
George o'lannie disrespect by.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
The way, bet and I'm betting o'lannie props, but he
is not Zach Sharbonay.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Yeah, that's true and good point.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Such.
Speaker 8 (19:09):
Yeah, that George George Lane caught I think it was
twenty three yards at receiving in the championship game. Yeah,
like you said, this is a one game sample. I
think that could be a bit overblown. In fact, I
think the fact that Zach Charboney did spell ken Walker
more during the year and it was more of a split,
(19:30):
I think that's gonna approve well when they because they've
really handed handed the keys to ken Walker and say
all right, go get him, kid, this is yours, and
you know, earn a few dollars as well. Because he's
a pending free agent. So I think with it just
being basically two games with the Championship Game and the
Super Bowl, you know, a week off as well, that
(19:50):
part is a little overblown. I think is because he's
been spared most of the season, so the tread is
still on the tires a little bit, just because that
split with Sharp and it was there all season long,
and now you can kind of take the you know,
take the bubble wrap off because this is there's no
tomorrow after the Super Bowl. This is it and you
can ride him for twenty five plus touches, I think,
(20:12):
and he's shown in the past his rookie year he
was a workhorse and you know, flirted with Offensive Rookie
of the Year and he's fought injuries since them. But
he's been very healthy this year and part of that,
again is due to the split with Sharbonney. So in
a weird way, the split with Sharbonney still is benefiting
the Seahawks because ken Walker has more tread on the
tires and in the Super Bowl than maybe if he
(20:34):
spent all year as the workhorse. And yeah, George Lane,
I think another week of getting comfortable in that third
down you know, extra backspot will.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Help as well.
Speaker 8 (20:42):
But overall, I think that the split benefits ken Walker
throughout the year and now he's fresher than he would
have been in just for one game left.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
Somebody on this show had to bring this up with
the big conversation surrounding the Patriots this season, not just
up here but nationally. Has been the easy schedule they've
played in the.
Speaker 6 (21:00):
Path they had to get where they are.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Obviously, all you can do is play the schedule in
front of you, but no team has ever won a
championship without some sort of luck. Do you think the
Seahawks being more battle tested in this scenario helps them?
Obviously they might be a little bit more injured just
because of the defenses and the gauntlet that they kind
of went through this year, or do you think that
it hurts them.
Speaker 8 (21:19):
It's a great question, Kendrick, because I I'm not going
to subscribe to the whole easy schedule thing.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
It's the NFL.
Speaker 8 (21:25):
This isn't Alabama, this isn't you know, Indiana's non conference schedule.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
This you know, this is the NFL.
Speaker 8 (21:34):
And you know, short of the Raiders, maybe everyone else
is is you know, they're they're full of it's full
of professional football players. And yes, while the Seahawks I
think they're nine to two when facing a team with
a winning record counting playoffs and the Patriots are five
and two, that's not nothing. You know, the Patriots are
(21:54):
here because they beat playoff teams and so.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
I have defenses in the playoffs, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 8 (22:00):
Yeah, And and yeah they've they've they've played some good defense,
as Drake may has been fantastic.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
You know, the Broncos were no joke.
Speaker 8 (22:07):
I know, the weather was kind of a weird thing
and people were gonna say, oh, yeah that the Patriots
benefited from that with the second half blizzard, But I
mean the Broncos were playing in the same blizzard. The
Patriots were playing in the same blizzard, and you know,
and Mike Rabel just seem to have those guys prepped
a little bit better. But as far as being battle tested, yes,
there's a balance I think between being battle tested and
(22:29):
being fatigued. Because the Seahawks, yeah, you're right, went through
an absolute gauntlet. We're talking in the last five weeks.
You know, the forty nine ers twice, the Rams twice,
and throwing the Panthers who were feisty and made the
playoffs and and so that you know, they that was
quite a run. And while I think maybe this is
a bit of fatigue, but I do think if this
(22:50):
game is close late to the super Bowl, that experience
I think will prove beneficial.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Like, you know, Mike bc donald's like, hey, we've been
here before.
Speaker 8 (22:57):
We've had to stop Matthew Stafford trying to turn trying
to win the game against us.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
You know, We've We've been there, done that.
Speaker 8 (23:03):
We've stymied Kyle Shanahan when he's trying to win the
number one seed in the NFC and trying to win
a playoff game. So yeah, I think there's a balance
to it, and I do think it would benefit the
Seahawks in the end. But I'm definitely going to go
short of saying the Patriots are lucky to be here
or have any sort of you.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Know, cupcake schedule, because this is the NFL. There's no
such thing.
Speaker 5 (23:24):
This is a gambling show at the end of the day,
and everybody wants and anytime touchdown scorer for the Super Bowl,
and Christian Gonzalez is going to have his hands full
with JSN. So I'm looking probably elsewhere for a little
bit of a bigger payout. Cooper Cup hasn't been the
Rams version of himself this season, still had some big
clutch plays currently plus two fifty for in anytime over
on DraftKings, Who do you think about What do you
think about taking a shot at him considering I don't
(23:46):
want to see the inconsistency. I literally have quotes around
inconsistency and him in my notes. But what do you
think about that as kind of a longer shot play
just for people who are looking for a little bit
of action in this game?
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (23:58):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
I mean he did.
Speaker 8 (23:59):
He's against the Rams in the NFT Championship game, and
I do think there was a little bit of extra
efforts on the coaching staff and team's standpoint of getting
him that revenge touchdown. There's there's been whispers of or
not whisperers. It's fairly public now of how things have
ended with Cooper Cup in LA, so maybe there was
extra motivation. But Cooper Cup touchdown, I mean he caught too.
(24:22):
In the regular season. He had almost six hundred receiving yards,
so it wasn't nothing in the in the in the
regular season, and I think The misconception is that it's
JSN and nobody else and Jackson Smith and jig was
probably gonna win Offensive Player of the Year. But that
does not mean that the Seahawks have had nobody else
another one I would watch for. In fact, I was
(24:42):
looking at like sleeper super Bowl MVPs and I think
I had there. I saw Rashid shi Heat at plus
five thousand. I wouldn't also sleep on Rashie Shiheats as
either a receiving touchdown or you know. Of course, he
can be a huge impact in the return game because
he's already won the Seahawks seven games. So yeah, Cooper
Cup at plus two fifty sounds nice because the Seahawks
(25:04):
do feature him, especially after Christian Gonzalez does. I don't
think he's gonna shut down Jackson Smith and Jigba, but
at least slow him down. The Seahawks have proven they
can use the options elsewhere. Rashi hi Heat had a
fifty plus yard reception against the Rams last week, So yeah,
Cooper Cup and Rashi Shih. Heeder wants to watch. An
Aj Barner has been a nice option at tie it end.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
To Yeah, there's also a chance that the Patriots. I
don't know if they take a page from the Belichick
book and just say we're going to take away JSN. Right,
so you have Gonzales where you have another corner and
a safety and basically just double him and then put
Gonzalez on another receiver and then just say anyone else
beat us, which could open up some opportunities for others.
But I want to turn the other side of the
(25:47):
ball and talk about this dominant Seattle defense. I'm a
Raivens fan, so I get very upset watching the Seahawks
knowing thank you McDonald go. And then somehow you were
able to find the West Coast version of Kyle Hamilton
and even more who just makes that defense unlocks everything
for that defense schematically. But when I look at this
(26:08):
Seattle defense, which was I can't even put into words
how good they were this year. There was basically three
performances that you know they got got and it was
the Baker Mayfield game and then two games against the Rams.
Was is there one area on the defense? You can
take this one of two ways that either A concerned
(26:28):
you a bit or B if this guy like an
underrated piece, if this is hitting, or this is working,
then I'm fully confident in the defense. It also could
just be I think this is maybe a vulnerable area
or a vulnerable guy that sometimes he kind of slips,
and that's what I'm worried about. So curious to get
your thoughts there on a potential holes on the defense.
Speaker 8 (26:49):
Well, I tweeted out in the three games against the Rams,
they are averaging twenty eight point three points allowed per
game and over four hundred and sixty yards game to
the three in the three games against the Rams against
everybody else, fifteen points per game, two hundred and sixty
yards per game. And that includes the Bucks game that
you mentioned. And I'm gonna throw that one out because
(27:11):
the Seahawks were down literally half their defens Yeah, so
I am gonna I've kind of disregarded that one all
year as like the Seahawks are elite and I'm gonna
just discard the Bucks game because of course Baker Mayfield
and that's when they were cooking in Tampa. But also, yeah,
the Seahawks, that was their one really bad injury week
and with the Rams, I think I said this last
(27:34):
week on the show, I think that's more of a
Sean McVay Matthew Stafford thing than it is a Seahawks
defense vulnerability thing. I think those two are a Hall
of Fame combo and not that Josh McDaniel and you
know Drake may are are you know, super inferior to that.
But as far as vulnerabilities, they have given up some
(27:54):
some some frustrating plays to tight ends. That's something that
they I think their third or fourth most allowed receiving
yards to tight ends.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
This year, So that's one area to look at.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
But other than that, if they're healthy and they're not
playing Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay, they've been pretty darn
dominant and Nicki min Worry is the all time just
like Queen on the chess board, the all time antidotes
to any venom that the offense can bring. So if
the Seahawks are healthy and not playing Sean mcvad and
(28:25):
Matthew Stafford, they have been really really hard to beat
and without crazy big holes, I think, yeah, tight end,
they can give up a few third downs that are frustrating.
As long as Riek woal And keeps his mouth shut
on the opposing sidelines, maybe we can avoid that. Again,
I'd like to think that's a very well earned lesson
(28:46):
from Reek Wollen. So I don't see any major deficiencies
in this defense. It's nice that they're pretty good at everything.
They may not the run defense, just think their best feature,
and maybe the pass rush isn't there like huge gaudy
sack numbers, But they're not bad at anything.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
Yeah, and they're not like blitzing a ton, so they
always have so much coverage and disguised and yeah, I
mean when breaking them down, I don't see any weaknesses.
And then you give McDonald two weeks to prepare. It's
a scary thought. The only thing that I did you
know that the tight ends I targeted some hunter Henry props.
I do think part of that is the Seahawks let
that happen, right, Like they kind of okay, you can
(29:25):
get your small completions to tight ends. We're gonna make
you work all the way down the field and not
give up any explosives. So I think part of that
is like they're funneling some stuff to tight ends and
Henry might be able to capitalize. But the only thing,
you know, I tried to find holes in this defense,
and the only thing I could find is you go
to the Rams game. It's just and this will beat
(29:45):
any elite defense. It's just completely elite play calling and
an elite quarterback play like just Stafford has to make
crazy throws and that's what May's gonna have to do
in order to consistently move the ball and he's gonna
have to do it over and over again without making
mistake against the defense that can score on its own.
So yeah, it's uh, I'm jealous that you got to
watch them all year and get to watch them one
(30:06):
more time.
Speaker 8 (30:07):
Yeah, and it's one of those where the Seahawks are
really good at just making you go down the field,
like you said, and they're not They do not give
up explosive plays and if you can, if you can
mount a fourteen to fifteen play touchdown drive, just tip
your hat like that's that's what the Seahawks can do
in the red zone.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
They're really tighten up in the red zone.
Speaker 8 (30:25):
So yeah, thank you for Mike McDonald and in Baltimore
because we are extremely happy to have him.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
And no, no take back seats. One year or too late,
he could have been our head. I mean this has
all happened last year. He would have been the head
coach of the Ravens, and we would have been in
good shape for years, but sometimes it's the way it breaks.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
It would have been a phenomenal candidate for you guys
with the with the vacancy, but yeah, unfortunately didn't break
that way. You mentioned Stucky the vulnerabilities, and there are
not many of them. Seattle really good against running backs
three and a half yards per carry, that's first in
the NFL. But they have been giving up rushing yards
to quarterbacks and that is something that Drake May can do.
(31:06):
Five yards per carry, that's twenty ninth in the NFL.
If you are advising those that were looking into the
props market, do you think that perhaps looking the way
of Drake May rushing shoulder injury, Seattle giving up rushing
yards to quarterbacks that we're talking about that funnel of
what they'll let you do. Could that be one of
those things that Seattle's okay if Drake May tries to
(31:27):
win this game by himself.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Yeah, I think that that's fair.
Speaker 8 (31:31):
They've faced a few mobile quarterbacks this year. One I
know that I consider Drake May on a different plane
than Kyle Murray. But the Seahawks have been done a
really good job containing Kyler Murray when Murray was healthy.
So I know they're obviously a different player, but so
Kyler Murray's one that they they did a pretty good
job of maintaining in the pocket, and the one that
(31:55):
really gave him fits actually is cam Ward. Cam Ward
played a fantastic game against the Seahawks, and so maybe
that's some something of a blueprint that the Patriots can
work with. And again, probably different players profile wise with
May and cam Ward, but that was one of the
angriest games I've been.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
After a Seahawks win. Like god, I mean, it's the
Titans come on and.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
The Wars cover credit.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
Yeah they did, Yeah, they did help.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
He's going to be the Titans might be a problem
very soon with with his talent.
Speaker 8 (32:27):
But yeah, that's something again like stuck you mentioned that
might be something the Seahawks are okay with, Like, all right,
that is the only way that you can beat us,
and I we're going to bet on Drake May not
being able to do that for a full four quarters
is what Mike McDonald and the defense might be saying.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
That number is sitting at thirty seven and a half.
By the way, as far as the rushing prop. If
you want to take the over on May, it has
been it's open to twenty nine and a half. So
just know that at the moment if you bet into it,
you're not getting the best of the number. But it
still could be an angle given what Seattle is going
to let them do.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
Go ahead, Kendra, I was gonna say the number hasn't
moved since Tuesday either, which I think maybe means it's
probably going to stay there. I feel like people it's
beating a dead horse to say whoever wins the turnover
battle is going to win this game. But I'm very
much in the camp that there will be an interception
thrown in this game Drake May. Obviously it had more
of a fumbling problem in the postseason this year. But
we all know Sam Darnald the meme of him seeing ghosts.
(33:20):
I asked our Patriots guest Alex Borth earlier this week
who he thinks is more likely to throw an interception
in this game. So currently Sam Darnald minus won thirty
six to throw a pick May minus one forty four.
What do you think about those numbers? And who do
you think it's more likely to turn the ball over?
Speaker 6 (33:35):
In this game.
Speaker 8 (33:35):
Interception wise, I could see scenario we're both do I
know that's not the answer that everyone wants to hear.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Yeah, the stigma was Sam Darnald is the turnovers.
Speaker 8 (33:46):
However, Seahawks have not turned it over in three straight
games and three straight very important games. The game going
back to the first game against the Niners, that the
battle against the number one or I should say second
game of the regular he's in week eighteen game going
back from there to the two playoff games, the Seahawks
have gone turnover free. So Sam Donald played one of
(34:08):
the games of his life, the game of his life
in the championship game. So, and the Seahawks defense certainly
is you know, bloodthirsty. They got they are, they are
just rearing for for turnovers. So I would probably say,
if I had to pick one, you know, force you know,
twist in my arm.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Drake may just because of the matchups with the defense.
Speaker 8 (34:33):
But I could see a scenario if there I don't know,
if there's a prop for both quarterbacks throwing at least
one that one, Yeah, I would certainly go with that one,
because both defenses do have you know, talent abound, and
so I would go with both of them maybe, but
if I had to pick one, I just like the
(34:53):
matchup with the Seahawks defense against Drake made just a
touch better, especially with how Sam Donald's played lately.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
Plus one ninety the price on that. By the way,
if you want to parlay the two.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
Yeah, Going going back to the rushing property, it's one
of the most fascinating. This is up every super role,
but especially this one with MacDonald. Like what it were
two weeks. What is he going to say he wants
to take away at the Patriots? Like maybe he says,
you know, I know, Hunter Henry's their second option. I'm
gonna make sure we take him away because I don't
trust other receivers. What's the man's own split. I can't
(35:25):
wait for all of that stuff. But let me ask
you this, going back to Sam Donald as a Seahawks fan,
has he won you completely over or do you still
kind of sit anxiously being like, all right, Sam, don't
turn it over this drive? And are you still a
little worried in the back of your head?
Speaker 8 (35:46):
Admittedly throughout the season when Sam Donald just as a
straight back, you know, drop back past, there's a little
bit of pucker.
Speaker 4 (35:54):
Here.
Speaker 7 (35:55):
We go.
Speaker 8 (35:56):
But that's uh that has gone away, I will say
for me, and I can't speak for every fan. Every
fan is a little different, of course, But the game
against the Rams he had. I mean, if, like I
said last week on our show, like if there was
a game where he was gonna melt down, it's a game.
It was a game against the Rams, a team that's
had his number, and in the brightest lights you can
pretty much get in the NFSC championship game in your
(36:18):
home building, it is an absolute electric atmosphere. Rams are
pretty talented defense. And he stared that right in the
eyes and said, it's my turn.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
And so he's won us over. I think in Seattle
and I think nationally, I think the narrative has changed
a little bit after that game.
Speaker 8 (36:34):
Now he's never really like I've always called him a
breath of fresh air since he's come here, because there
are some things with Gino Smith where it's like, you know,
how well liked is he in the locker room, you know,
and with the media relationship.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
Sam Donald in an absolute boy scout the entire time.
Speaker 8 (36:52):
He is such a guys guy. He's such a great teammate.
He considers himself one of the guys. He doesn't ask
for his own office or anything like that. He is
just one of the football players in the locker room.
That's how he views himself. He is very humble. Guys
play hard for Sam Jarnald and both sides of the ball.
You saw Ernest Jones going to bats with an expletive
filled rant after the Rams loss and then doubling down
(37:16):
on it when they beat the Rams last week.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
That this team believes in Sam Jarnald, and I think
that's really all that matters.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
Yeah, the one thing I don't know much, But the
one thing I do know one game social media. If
the Patriots win, Sam Donald was seeing ghosts will never
get it done. If the Seahawks win, Drake May is
a schedule merchant. That's just how it works. But one
final question for me as a Seahawks fan, maybe you're
the type of fan that always thinks that you're going
(37:44):
to win the Super Bowl. Maybe a build up over
the course of the year or maybe that was there
one moment or one game, So how you started to
finally believe like, all right, this team can win the
Super Bowl and I think they're going to do it.
So is there was there one moment did it? Bill?
Did you believe going into the season, curious like how
that worked out for you in your mind?
Speaker 8 (38:04):
Oh, stayed and bounce now. But you know, as far
as like that moment, we're like, oh, this team's pretty good.
Is I think the second matchup against the Ram I
mean how I when I saw the defensively their game
against the Vikings. Yes, it was Max Brosmer, but that
(38:25):
was just like I felt so bad for him, Like
it was that bad for as a Seahawks fan, We're
all like, oh, Max, I'm so sorry. But but that
was also a deep So that was the click for
me of like this defense is super Bowl worthy. And
then going to a couple of weeks later when they
faced the Rams on Thursday Night football, and yeah, the
(38:47):
defense didn't have a great night, but now all of
a sudden, the offense is matching blow for blow. With
Sean McVay, I'm watching them, the defense get a couple,
you know, really really good games and shut out the Vikings,
and then all of a sudden, you can match the
Rams blow for blow. After that game, that was when
it all dawned on the whole city, like, oh we
can like win the division, we can like get the
(39:07):
number one seed. I don't think it really sank in
for the whole city until they had beaten the Rams
on Thursday Night Football and all, like you know, the
playoff machines and all.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
The standings, like, oh wait, yeah, we can win the
one with the one seed. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
That game was really what solidified it for me.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
If there's a Super Bowl video, that two point conversion
should be the first play because, I mean, think about
how massive that one sends the Rams out all across
the country. Seal's get to buy cakewalk over the forty
nine Ers play the NFC Championship at home and get
to the Super Bowl. That that play changed the entire
complexion of the NFL and probably the game of the year.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
I gotta say, the weirdest things happen in that end zone.
Speaker 8 (39:48):
I believe that's the same end zone of the fail
mary in twenty twelve against the Packers, the same in
zone as the tip against the forty nine ers and
twenty thirteen with Richard Sherman. Some very strange things happen
in that end zone.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
See, this is the kind of stuff you don't know,
You don't know this stuff until you talk to the fans.
That's that is, that's next level information. Nick A, thanks
again for coming on quick rapid fire before we let
you go. Scenario here, minute thirty left Seahawks up by
four Patriots with the ball from their own thirty with
(40:24):
two timeouts.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
How much do you like your chances.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Better than fifty to fifty? I do.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Are up by four, Patriots, have the ball.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
The Yaks are up by four ninety seconds left on
the clock. They got a couple of timeouts, but they've
got to go seventy yards, got to get on the
end zone. Field go won't do it.
Speaker 8 (40:42):
I like the field goal won't do a thing, very
similar to the Rams situation, because the Seahawks really really
buckled down and you know, and yeah, the Rams got
yards and got points, but when it really counted, when
it really counted all year, this defense has got it done.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
So I like my chances there as a JSN Stan
I've got him in a dynasty league. He's right now
my favorite player to watch in the NFL. I imagine
that there are just JSN jerseys littered all over the
city of Seattle. If he were to go off in
this game, win Super Bowl MVP? Does that put him
(41:21):
on the Mount Rushmore of Seattle greats? So I came
up with the list, you knock any of these off?
Ken Griffy Junior, Marshawn Lynch, Steve Largent, Gary Payton. Would
it do anything to that list?
Speaker 4 (41:34):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (41:35):
After winning the Super Bowl MVP?
Speaker 4 (41:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (41:38):
Ooo? That is that that that can get dangerous for
me back home if I start, if I start messing
with that list.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
To to I mean, how many of those guys won titles?
I mean Marshall Lynch.
Speaker 8 (41:50):
I think marsh On Lynch is fairly untouchable just because
won the Super Bowl, beast mode and just everything he is.
Speaker 6 (41:57):
He's just a track he does for the community.
Speaker 2 (41:59):
Yes, he's an absolute treasure.
Speaker 8 (42:01):
I mean if he's a guy that if I could
pay to like hug somebody, I would Marshon Lynch would
be up in my list of people I.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Would love to just hug somehow.
Speaker 4 (42:10):
How much would you on that just curious ballpark figure?
Speaker 2 (42:17):
We could, we could, we can flirt with a hundred bucks.
Speaker 8 (42:19):
I'm I'm a I'm a meager state government worker, so
I don't exactly roll on the dough.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
I probably wouldn't mess with that with that list for now,
with one title and super Bowl MVP.
Speaker 8 (42:30):
Now he's on a trajectory with probably winning Offensive Player
of the Year. Now you can now we're talking super
Bowl MVP in the resume. I can absolutely see a
scenario where when all of a sudden done, he is
on Seattle Mount Rushmore. But I think with how young
he is, which is crazy we're even having this conversation,
I think we're not quite there, just because those are
(42:51):
some absolute legends and I don't want the pitchforks pointed
in my direction.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Over here.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
So not quite Well, something less divisive. What are your
plans for the Super Bowl?
Speaker 8 (43:04):
Well, actually, that's that's fun. I have my brother in
law lives in Wales and is a big Seahawks fan.
He's from here and he is flying out to watch
the game with us. So he's going from Wales to
London to Seattle and watching the game at our house
and so that's a treat for me. So it's a
(43:24):
long flight, but it's it's really fun to It's gonna
be really fun to see him. He's a big Seahawks fan,
so we're gonna we just finished our basement in our house.
So we're gonna have a whole man cave super Bowl party.
So I'm really looking forward to that. So what a
what a super Bowl to uh, to start that era
of our house here with with the Seahawks, and it's
in my brother in law coming from Wales. So and
of course what we always do is we do a
(43:46):
themed foods from each of the Super Bowl participants.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
That's always been a tradition at my house. So this
is Who's clam chowder is the best? Maybe I don't
know ivers clam chowder over here.
Speaker 8 (43:59):
I've had New England clomb chatter. It's fantastic. But yeah,
so just a lot of fun and somehow I love that.
Speaker 6 (44:06):
I don't, oh, go ahead, stuck.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
No, I was just gonna say, got reaction.
Speaker 1 (44:10):
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
You don't know the teams who won. But if you
slept through the Super Bowl and you woke up and
I told you the final score was either thirty eight
thirty five or ten to seven, which one would shock.
Speaker 8 (44:22):
You more.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Thirty eight thirty five.
Speaker 8 (44:25):
I was coming here prepared to say, I think this
is going to be a fairly low scoring game, just
because the Patriots seemed to have found their stride. Defensively,
the Seahawks are one of the best defenses in the league,
so I could see this being a filling out field
position kind of battle. So lower scoring ten to seven
might be a little extreme. I hope there's no blizzards
in Santa Clara, but lower scoring I think yeah, I
(44:47):
would agree.
Speaker 5 (44:48):
Good final question from me. I am a huge Bad
Bunny fan. Are you excited for the halftime show? And
if you are, do you have a favorite Bad Bunny song? Oh?
Speaker 8 (44:57):
I do like Bad Bunny. I thought him and Happy
Gilmore two. It was absolutely hilarious. By the way, I
think that he like stole the show a little bit.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
I must have made it.
Speaker 8 (45:05):
I'm not like I don't know all of his his
set lists, so to speak, but I think Yeah is
a really good one.
Speaker 4 (45:14):
I just like that.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
I love the top rope with that one. Nick, I
don't know it's setless. Let me just speak Spanish real quick.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
That's another thing I do.
Speaker 8 (45:22):
I influence in Spanish, so uh so I try to
part of how I keep it up as I listen
to to Spanish music. So I don't have all the
song's memories, but TMT Priganto is a really good one
his goal.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
Listen to just his most recent album on Spotify and
you'll be good to go.
Speaker 6 (45:38):
It's so good.
Speaker 5 (45:40):
I'm obsessed with him and I'm so excited. I just
I'm more excited about the halftime show, which is insane
to say because I'm such a football girl, but I
love him.
Speaker 8 (45:49):
Looking forward to too, and a green Day too. At
the beginning, that's that's my that's my era. So I'm
looking forward to some Green Day.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
Oh yeah, I didn't even know that.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
