Seth Curry returns to the show alongside Tray to break down the greatest Power Forwards of the 1990s. The conversation dives into some of the era’s most iconic players, including Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman, Horace Grant, and Chris Webber, and how each of them helped define one of the most physical decades in NBA history.

They also discuss how many careers from that era were shaped by one constant presence: Michael Jordan. Whether players were battling against him in the playoffs or winning championships alongside him, Jordan’s impact looms large over the decade.

blast from the past to the nineties. Man, the greatest
power Forwards. Man, we got some good conversation and this
one a lot of people that we've talked about in
other episodes, but you know, not in this particular focus, man.
So let's just jump right into it, man, The greatest

power forward to the nineteen nineties. Man. And this is
the era that your pops played in. But also the
look of the power forward which is completely different. Man.
Like a lot of offenses ran through these guys. You know,
a lot of guys were very defensive, heavy and fit
the team identity. Man, So you know, let's just jump
right into it.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah, the power forward of the nineties, that's kind of
like an engagered species. Now it might be extinct, to
be honest with you, Like the what power forwards like,
a power forwards is basically.

A wing in today's game.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
And if you're of the archetype that we're gonna talk
about today, these guys who or six nine, six ten,
six eleven was just even shorter, but just stocky and
big and heavy.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Today you're either not in the league or you're.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
A small small center like a small ball center, a
Draymon type, So I think they would, I mean would
to find that position in the in the nineties. Was physicality.
First of all, you kind of had to be the enforcer.
You had to be able to bang down there in
the post. You I think you had to guard. Defense
was one of the main things you brought to the table, rebound, defensive, rebounding.

Then if you stressed the floor, it was out the
fifteen feet right like you created space by hitting the
wing fifteen footer, elbow fifteen footer or even that baseline
stepping out and spreading the floor like that.

It went always to the three point line. Yeah.

And although we're talking about some of the stars of
the league, a lot of reserve guys, a lot of
you know, role players played huge roles in physicality, you
know what I mean. Like you had a bunch of enforcers,
you had a guys that weren't alone, a lot of
cutting through the court, you know what I mean. A
lot of you know guys kept the job because they
were tough. They were using all their files and just

an absolute pain and the paint. But again, like I mentioned,
we're going to talk about some offensive players. You mentioned
the tall ones around six nine, and six ten. Well,
we're going to talk about a player that was actually six'
four and played extremely above the, rim very physical and
strong search for a, start A hall Of, fame eleven
Time All, star eight times in the decade ninety two
to ninety. THREE. Mvp let's let's let's put some respect on.

It he won AN mvp during The jordan. Era you,
Know jordan was really. Greedy he won a bunch of.
MVPs and the fact That barkley got that on that
year and got his team to the. Finals he's also
a member of the seventy Fifth anniversary. Team and you,
know like just thinking About Chuck, Man chuck had real.
Game AND i know a lot of people teasing for
not winning the, ring but this is around the time
where he tried to do it. Hisself towards the end

of his, career he joined The rockets and a few other.
Squads but you, know let's talk About Charles, barkley The
philadelphia seventy six ers and The Phoenix.

Suns, Yeah, CHUCK i, mean just like this is The
golden era power. Forwards it's got to be The golden.
Era nicknames like the Round mound or rebound was it
or something like.

That, so, YEAH i mean he was a.

Monster he was, sick like you, said six,' four carving
out his space and. The paint h was heavy on
the boards offensively. And defensively and then one on one
on that block in that area you couldn't, Come over you.
Really couldn't you had either come all the way over
and double or you or you had to let him
play one on one because obviously illegal defense was still
on the play. Back then so when he left the

one on one on the block or in the pinch
post or whatever at, the elbow he.

To, It yeah and you look at some of his
highlights and it might not as be a sexy you
KNOW what. I mean he's, very enforced like basically for

seems like his game improved a little, bit more especially
when he got Traded, to phoenix because he had a
supporting cast that allowed him to be a scorer, and
dominant and he took advantage of every. Single matchup most

times you see a guy that Six four guarden somebody
as six ten or seven, to one there's a, matchup
issue not you think you, all right you got to
beat him off. The dribble But like chuck was banging
with these guys like as if he was, there height
you KNOW what. I MEAN and i remember as, A
kid i used to look at his Card and i'm,
just Like How's michael jordan taller?

a WHILE the nba listened him at, Six six so
even that's not like a huge height for a, power

a lot. Of space BUT when i found out he was,
six four and like, Without shoes i'm just like even
more amazed at the capabilities of things that he was

able to accomplish at.

That, hight yeah and you said his game was, not sexy.
It was it might have, been ugly to, Be, honest,
LIKE yeah, i mean, you know we watched some of those,
old highlights like he was he rarely put the ball
on his. Left hand he WAS just, i mean it
wasn't it wasn't not, pretty highlights but he just he.
Was effective and put up the, numbers, like yeah that
that move where he did the little right, hand stutter

think might've been to win the game, or whatever but
it was like nobody everybody more skilled than that.

way so he had more of A skill he was,
