It was like it was forty forty year olds and up,
and Michael knew everybody's name. Wow, one hundred guys, and
he would this was happening in Vegas. We'd be out

and he'd be gambling. I don't gamble, but he's like, hey, Jowahloski.
He call out that name, and I just remember like
being with the other campers and having them go Jordan
knows me. Yeah, how like charge fifteen thousand dollars?

Is there a certain way you like? What do you
do to remember people's names? I've heard some people will
like seeing things in their head, or they will also like,
say a funny acronym to themselves back? Do you do
any of that?

I think when you grew up in a family with
as many siblings as I have, you have to remember
people's names. There's probably sixty of us in California and
we get together for you know, the thing is like
my mother used to go, can'd shot change all the
kids to get to one? I guess that's you know,

from a parenting so many and you don't know who
you want to beat it what particulars?

Speaker 3 (01:42):
But should we get frustrated and forget our names.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
And go through every single one of you? I mean,
bless my dad. He only had two kids, but he
still got me confused with my brother. So I can
only imagine your mother. Yeah, that brings me to my question,
has your family ever been studied? Because it is not
normal to have that many people that hysterical in what
and talented and talented in one home? And then and

two did you guys all share the same bathroom when
you were growing up?
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yes, there were two bathrooms in the project we had,
and so in my dad's bathroom was the tub, Yeah,
the tub in the shower. And then we had the
bathroom with just a sink and the toilet. So we
had to wait until my dad and my mom finished
in the bathroom and then we could use their bathroom.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Did you have like a time limit?
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Oh yeah, yeah, well we did a lot of what
do you call it chicken bath with the bathroom you just.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Like you like your little parts, yeahs, bits and bits.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Yeah. And as far as the study, I think that
it's you know, the it's a language. It's like, you know,
growing up in a house with Spanish people, you speak Spanish.
Everybody speaks Spanish. My family speaks comedy. So if that's
just the language. Even the little kids are funny, they
come with you know, you just sit back and if

you are going to get into a conversation, you have
to your way in is through comedy.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
We talked to your son not that long ago, and
so we were kind of talking to him about that
kind of stuff too, and he just he was quick,
like he was ready, like he was just like.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Waiting for somebody to come out him. But it was
it was really cute.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
That's a family picnic. That's like how we are. It's
like everything is nothing is sacred, you know. I mean,
my family is the worst place to have something traumatic happening.
Oh no, it's just jokes. And that's how we deal
with it, you know. And even my son's relationship, me

and Junior, it's all jokes. And then if I have
to tell him something serious, like hey, you need to
watch your daughter or watch your son, right, and then
we go right back to the comedy of what's funny
about what I just said?

See how you go back and forth the longest? Who
can hold it?

And that's like university, that's like you know, you're studying,
you're setting him up for all kinds of success.

But it's also it's setting him up for life is
so full of disappointments unless you laugh at it looking forward,
this is going to be so funny.

you had guys like Sam Kennison and Dice Clay right,
and so now because the culture has changed, it's a
little more. It's you can no longer make a proclamation.
You have to have a conversation. Back then, you could

go I hate my wife now and you say you
start with that, people, Oh right, yeah, you go, I
don't understand my wife. The guarded down they want to hear.
They want to help you solve this problem.

Do you think that's why you're never You never really
hear your name getting negative press, you know what I mean?
Like especially with other comedians that say certain things. I
don't know if they do it especially for the reaction,
but people get offended. I think where you were going
with that victoria very very easily. But you don't hear
people crying about.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
You, well, not yet.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
I just oh, it's a cam, a comedy club.

I'm not afraid. But I realize where we're at in
the stream of time. I also understand the conversation versus
the proclamation, and I I don't want to jump into
hot topics. That's not you know. I'm more of a
guy who tell you stories about my life. You can't
get mad at my life, Yeah right, you can't get

mad because I said that, you know, I hung out
with cripple people because you did it. I did. I mean,
it's born with a club foot. So it's like I'm
talking about my life and stuff that would be is
not because it's just this is a real story.

For your show that's coming up. But it's become a
comedy club. Are you there? How many nights?
Speaker 3 (06:28):
I'm there for four nights, one show a night.

Okay, So I don't want any spoilers or anything for
the people that are going to be there, but like,
are you drawn from stuff that happened last week?
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Or yeah, I've I did a sh I'm doing a
bit about not a bit. But I actually went to
see the Michael Jackson movie and I was blown away.
I went with my granddaughter who wants to be a singer,
and she's crying like throughout the movie. She turns to
me goes, Papa, what am I supposed to do with this?

It's life changing?

How old is she?

She's thirteen?

But you know, and then I was saying that people
are upset because they didn't do the dark side of

wanted to. I'm like, I think the movie ended right where,

Everything everybody's waiting to see. It happens in real life.

But it's like, you know, so that's basically where I'm

and this way. She's still giggling. This is stuff that
comes to my mind. I go, oh, that's pretty funny. Yeah,
so you know, just share it. It's the hardest part
is to get it out of your mouth and to

Do you feel like when you are watching other people,
are you editing or are you enjoying? Like from your seat?
As a wayans when you watch movies, even though that
one was about Michael Jackson, when you watch comedy shows,
when you watch anything in entertainment, do you find yourself
kind of editing in your own mind or are you
letting yourself get lost?
Speaker 3 (08:39):
The greatest feeling is to get lost right and to
let go. And I being a writer and a comedian,
it's very hard for me to enjoy stand up. You
don't want me at your show because in my brain,
I go, oh, that's funny. Wow, that's really funny.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
I'm just going to do It's like.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
I've got that is hysterical. But I think it's because
you know, I can't turn that oh off. However, when
I'm hanging around my brothers and sisters and my family
and they start, like we call it the comedic gang bang,
where you go out a topic and everybody just kind

of goes runs with it, It's like it's funny because
I'm hearing stuff I would never say, and it's like
it's the same sense of humor with different sensibilities, right,
so everybody's gonna come at the same joke with a
different take, and you go, oh, that's funny. You don't
say oh that's funny. You just enjoyed the moment and building,

watching this thing get built, you know, built, and then
it's like a race to the stage. Who's gonna do it? Well,
it's really scary when like new people show up with
the family because everything everybody gets you get baptized. If
you could show up to a family function and some
one finds out what's funny about you, We're gonna riff

on it. You take it, and it's all dipped in love.
You know. I try to hurt somebody, but like you know,
if you show up with the wrong shoes or the
you know, it's like, it's it's fun. You don't want
to be fodder for the ways.

Your brothers just put out scary movie six. Yep, did
they come to you to talk about any of the
writing on that? I mean your son Junior is in
that movie too.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Yeah. See, Marlon is funny because mall look, come to me, Hey,
read the script and give me some notes. Give him
the script and I give them notes and goes we
shoot tomorrow. It's like, why you're not gonna do anything.
It's wasted my time. You want validation, so you don't
want me to give you, you know, constructive criticism. You
just want to hear it's great. So I've learned that.

I don't you know, I don't try to it's funny.
It's funny stuff.

When you watched it and you see your son on screen.
I'm sorry I keep bringing him up because it trips
me out.

It's fine, he is.

But you know what's funny is that looking at pictures
of you when you were younger, you guys are twins. Yes,
like spitting image.

you know, like lovable. He's you know, there's no like
Hollywood with him. He's just really down to earth. He

doesn't like this dude will wear a T shirt and
jeans for the rest of his life, you know. And
when he puts on a suit, I'm like shock, Like,
oh you have some of those. He's like a guy
who wears chucks and sneakers and T shirts and he's happy.

Does he just call you dad? Or do you got
or do you get or do you get a breakfast
name too?
Speaker 3 (11:51):
He called me whatever you want.

But also a lot of your other like it's really
a lot more y'all's family was in that movie as well.

Yes, my nephew, two of my nephews. It's one of
your my niece. Yeah, everybody, everybody was in it.

I don't. I don't feel left out. It's like I
you know, I love my brothers. I want to see
them win, you know. Yeah, yeah, and I don't have
a problem working with them. But you know, Mollin sends
me a scene to do and it's like I get
stabbed up, like killed.

It's like, no, what about in a like you're in it.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
I'm gonna kill you because you weren't any and in
the movie like that. That's not funny. This is kind
of funny. But like what about like, yeah, sequel potential
right right, right right? Yeah, Well you're on the road.

Now, how long are you doing shows?

This is my first time back after probably five years.
But I'm excited, you know, I'm sexty five. I call
it sexy five.

Yeah, but because you can work at yeah, well, trying.

Like Guccie, trying, you know, trying to do I'm only
doing one show a night because I realize I don't
think I can do too m right at this Aay,
I'm very comfortable in life. I go to bed at
a certain time, I wake up at six a m.
You know, I'm just like it's comedy is different. You

have prostitute hours, and you know, you just have to
get used to being in a dark comedy club and
you know, hanging out with comics and you know that
that life. That's a lifestyle change.

But do you bring a little bit of home with
you on the road right now?
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Like bring today? I had to, like I had to
literally stop packing and tell myself because I make beats,
I have a NPC sample, I have all these little
things that I do, and I tell myself, no, commit
to just doing stand up. So I did bring my laptop.

That's the only thing I brought because I can, you know,
rework bits while i'm you know, after I get off stage,
I can think about it. But in terms of like
a Teddy Bear, no, okay, I have yoga blocks. Actually
have a yoga stick. Okay, it comes apart. It's like
a stick like to help and a yoga matt. So
(14:36):
I do a jailhouse workout basically burpies and yoga to
stay in shape. Because you know, the excuse is, well
I couldn't make it to the gym. I'm the gym.

You don't get an excuse.

You should try to you know combat diabetes.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Do you have diabetes?

Yes, you can really open about Yeah, how what is that?
Have you gotten any response? I'm guessing like tons from
people that just kind of shock you about being personal
with something on social media that's like normal to you,
like within your life that.

Well, you know, what I realize is that people want
what they want when they want it. Yes, right, and
so you know, I try to tell people, listen, if
you have diabetes or your pre diabetic, think about the
one thing that you eat every day that you know
is bad for you, and give that up, just one
thing and do that every year, because if you're pre diabetic,

you won't become diabetic if you do that, because it's
that one thing that you love that's the thing that's
killing you.

Before we wrap this up, so, I mean we're talking
about age sixty five. You don't look at you don't
seem it, you're except for the fact that you seem
so common wise, Why life? Why not allow yourself just
to chill? Why keep working at sixty five? A lot
of people are starting to think about retirement.

I think I see retirement as the runway to death.
Oh I don't want to be on the tarmac. Yeah,
I think I want to work until they put me
in the ground.

comes to my mind. I go, oh, that's pretty funny. Yeah,
so you know, just share it. It's the hardest part
is to get it out of your mouth and to

say it without fear and to say it with love.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Do you feel like when you are watching other people,
are you editing or are you enjoying? Like from your seat?
As a wayans when you watch movies, even though that
one was about Michael Jackson, when you watch comedy shows,
when you watch anything in entertainment, do you find yourself
kind of editing in your own mind or are you
letting yourself get lost?
Speaker 3 (08:39):
The greatest feeling is to get lost right and to
let go. And I being a writer and a comedian,
it's very hard for me to enjoy stand up. You
don't want me at your show because in my brain,
I go, oh, that's funny. Wow, that's really funny.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
I'm just going to do It's like.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
I've got that is hysterical. But I think it's because
you know, I can't turn that oh off. However, when
I'm hanging around my brothers and sisters and my family
and they start, like we call it the comedic gang bang,
where you go out a topic and everybody just kind
(09:20):
of goes runs with it, It's like it's funny because
I'm hearing stuff I would never say, and it's like
it's the same sense of humor with different sensibilities, right,
so everybody's gonna come at the same joke with a
different take, and you go, oh, that's funny. You don't
say oh that's funny. You just enjoyed the moment and building,
(09:41):
watching this thing get built, you know, built, and then
it's like a race to the stage. Who's gonna do it? Well,
it's really scary when like new people show up with
the family because everything everybody gets you get baptized. If
you could show up to a family function and some
one finds out what's funny about you, We're gonna riff
(10:02):
on it. You take it, and it's all dipped in love.
You know. I try to hurt somebody, but like you know,
if you show up with the wrong shoes or the
you know, it's like, it's it's fun. You don't want
to be fodder for the ways.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Your brothers just put out scary movie six. Yep, did
they come to you to talk about any of the
writing on that? I mean your son Junior is in
that movie too.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Yeah. See, Marlon is funny because mall look, come to me, Hey,
read the script and give me some notes. Give him
the script and I give them notes and goes we
shoot tomorrow. It's like, why you're not gonna do anything.
It's wasted my time. You want validation, so you don't
want me to give you, you know, constructive criticism. You
just want to hear it's great. So I've learned that.
(10:48):
I don't you know, I don't try to it's funny.
It's funny stuff.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
When you watched it and you see your son on screen.
I'm sorry I keep bringing him up because it trips
me out.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
It's fine, he is.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
A pretty man.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
But you know what's funny is that looking at pictures
of you when you were younger, you guys are twins. Yes,
like spitting image.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
I tell him, look at this face that you know.
I call them pancakes, okay, because everybody loves pancakes. Ah,
you know, like lovable. He's you know, there's no like
Hollywood with him. He's just really down to earth. He
(11:29):
doesn't like this dude will wear a T shirt and
jeans for the rest of his life, you know. And
when he puts on a suit, I'm like shock, Like,
oh you have some of those. He's like a guy
who wears chucks and sneakers and T shirts and he's happy.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Does he just call you dad? Or do you got
or do you get or do you get a breakfast
name too?
Speaker 3 (11:51):
He called me whatever you want.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Just call me that.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
But also a lot of your other like it's really
a lot more y'all's family was in that movie as well.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Yes, my nephew, two of my nephews. It's one of
your my niece. Yeah, everybody, everybody was in it.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
How did you feel left out?
Speaker 3 (12:15):
I don't. I don't feel left out. It's like I
you know, I love my brothers. I want to see
them win, you know. Yeah, yeah, and I don't have
a problem working with them. But you know, Mollin sends
me a scene to do and it's like I get
stabbed up, like killed.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
It's like, no, what about in a like you're in it.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
I'm gonna kill you because you weren't any and in
the movie like that. That's not funny. This is kind
of funny. But like what about like, yeah, sequel potential
right right, right right? Yeah, Well you're on the road.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Now, how long are you doing shows?
Speaker 3 (12:58):
This is my first time back after probably five years.
But I'm excited, you know, I'm sexty five. I call
it sexy five.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Yeah, but because you can work at yeah, well, trying.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Like Guccie, trying, you know, trying to do I'm only
doing one show a night because I realize I don't
think I can do too m right at this Aay,
I'm very comfortable in life. I go to bed at
a certain time, I wake up at six a m.
You know, I'm just like it's comedy is different. You
(13:35):
have prostitute hours, and you know, you just have to
get used to being in a dark comedy club and
you know, hanging out with comics and you know that
that life. That's a lifestyle change.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
But do you bring a little bit of home with
you on the road right now?
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Like bring today? I had to, like I had to
literally stop packing and tell myself because I make beats,
I have a NPC sample, I have all these little
things that I do, and I tell myself, no, commit
to just doing stand up. So I did bring my laptop.
(14:12):
That's the only thing I brought because I can, you know,
rework bits while i'm you know, after I get off stage,
I can think about it. But in terms of like
a Teddy Bear, no, okay, I have yoga blocks. Actually
have a yoga stick. Okay, it comes apart. It's like
a stick like to help and a yoga matt. So
(14:36):
I do a jailhouse workout basically burpies and yoga to
stay in shape. Because you know, the excuse is, well
I couldn't make it to the gym. I'm the gym.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
You don't get an excuse.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
You should try to you know combat diabetes.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Do you have diabetes?
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Yes, you can really open about Yeah, how what is that?
Have you gotten any response? I'm guessing like tons from
people that just kind of shock you about being personal
with something on social media that's like normal to you,
like within your life that.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Well, you know, what I realize is that people want
what they want when they want it. Yes, right, and
so you know, I try to tell people, listen, if
you have diabetes or your pre diabetic, think about the
one thing that you eat every day that you know
is bad for you, and give that up, just one
thing and do that every year, because if you're pre diabetic,
(15:40):
you won't become diabetic if you do that, because it's
that one thing that you love that's the thing that's
killing you.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Before we wrap this up, so, I mean we're talking
about age sixty five. You don't look at you don't
seem it, you're except for the fact that you seem
so common wise, Why life? Why not allow yourself just
to chill? Why keep working at sixty five? A lot
of people are starting to think about retirement.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
I think I see retirement as the runway to death.
Oh I don't want to be on the tarmac. Yeah,
I think I want to work until they put me
in the ground.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
I want to be in the middle of telling a
joke and then just and yeah, you're the end of
the mortar sets out. Yeah, just put me just like that.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
