Speaker 1 (00:08):
Podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show
where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth,
and today we're joined by Randall, Seth, Max, Nate Alyssa
and Omar Lopez. Omar, this is your first time on
the show. Tell folks what you do here at.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Meat Eater Associate producer and me Eater?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
What does that mean?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
He's still figuring it out? Still figuring it out?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Started May eleventh. But it seems like almost a glorified
Troutway agent.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
But okay. Strengths and weaknesses when it comes to Meat
Eater Trivia, Hunting, fishing, conservation, cooking, what do.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
You think cooking? Dead last? Hunting first, conservation, second? What
was the third?
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Fishing?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Fish?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Fishing? Yea third.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
In Omar's slack profile picture, he's got a big old velvet.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Buck, first one ever. Oh, in his office it is.
But he's broken. He fell off the wall.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
Happens?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Were you there when it happened?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:06):
I was gone, And then my roommate's going like, dude,
you're gonna be pissed, but your deer fell off the wall,
and I'm like no, So he's been broken for like
a year, two years almost.
Speaker 5 (01:15):
But he's got a plan to get it fixed.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, we have a plan. Oh what's the plan, hayes John.
Speaker 6 (01:21):
Oh, dude, I got a well, yeah, I got some
bucks on it.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Fixed up to it's a failed tax not the fire bucks.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
You can't get the firebus.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Well, at least one of the firebug.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
That looks like an artistic choice.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
Well that's the good one. You haven't seen the bad one.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Okay. That Nate has a deer skull that looks like
it was set on fire.
Speaker 6 (01:40):
Actually the other day I wasn't in here and you
guys had a diy taxidermy question. I'm telling him that
dude who wrote in do maceration. It's you can't mess
it up.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
That's what Yanni's about these days.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
You can mess up boiling.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
I promise it is some good evidence of it. Ten
round quiz show with what on it?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
So hard.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Tell what happened?
Speaker 6 (02:03):
He ran out, No, I had I had a turkey.
Uh what's the like a turkey fire?
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Thank you?
Speaker 6 (02:10):
And as a fifteen minute cut off. I tried to
bypass the fifteen minute cut off because every fifteen minutes
I was going out there.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Oh yeah, I remember it didn't.
Speaker 6 (02:17):
Work, and so like every fifteen minutes, I kept going
out there. We start a movie. I'm like, this will
be the last run. It'll go fifteen minutes and be done.
Two hours later I walk out there. It finally bypassed
the cutoff. There's no water in the bucket, the bottoms
melted out, and there's just flames coming out.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Of the deer.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
Yeah, and so one of them's fine and one, I
mean they're both bad, but one of a kind.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
Mount Well, there's two of them. Just one of them
is real, bro, So I need it fixed.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, cooking.
There is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred
dollars to the conservation organization of the Winter's Choosing. We
have a a bag question today. Send your mail bag
questions at Trivia at the meat eater dot com if
you have something you want the crew to answer. This
is from Jesse Vander Hayden. I'm a first generation hunter
(03:10):
and I'm wondering what is something that the crew enjoys
to see while hunting that isn't their intended gay man.
So an animal something? Yeah, sunrises.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
I love hearing owls in the trees.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Stand.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (03:25):
I like seeing rare stuff like if you're if you're
in Pennsylvania deer hunting, like a fisher comes running by,
or like if you're in Alaska and a wolverine comes
running by, or something.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Any small mammals. You know what I hate something armadillos.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
Why do you hate m They sound identical to a deer,
but you cannot find them until they're like right under you.
Speaker 8 (03:50):
I was gonna say, just a combine harvesting wheat.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Oh it's fall.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Yeah, it just brings.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
It back to fall. And yeah, a bunch of totally.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Waterfall food all over the place. I would say rocks
and mushrooms are my favorite things to see that are
not intended gay animal. It is predictable.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
This year Animal Punty in Montana found gypsum for the
first time. Not a rare thing, but I've never seen
it before. Elt in wild and then in South Dakota
I found some dinosaur bones and petrified woo while mule
deer hunting. And then early fall there's like some good
foraging to be had. Some of my favorite mushrooms, chicken
in the woods, and oysters. And then this year in Idaho,
(04:29):
I found an apple tree that just had like the
most delicious, biggest apples on a mountain and idol, that's awesome.
That was very exciting.
Speaker 9 (04:36):
Did you set up and haunt that apple tree?
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I haunted near it. Did not kill anything by it,
but it was like something that clearly everything in the
neighborhood was interested in. Any other answers for Jesse on
things you like to see while you're hunting shell casings,
old ones, like yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yeah, it's still smoking. Six caves in the ground.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Okay, you don't want to find one like next to
a pile or something.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
No, But I like finding old tarnished cases.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Seth has away cool, especially like your I feel like
you found it old. Oh yeah, cartridge that barely exists.
Speaker 7 (05:11):
Yeah, it's I mean it's old to the point where
I can't even like, can't read find there's no.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Head stamp on it.
Speaker 7 (05:17):
Oh straight wall car dream finding while you're hunting.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Oh that's true.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
We have some housekeeping today on the Wives episode of Trivia,
I wait a question about the most popular dog names
for twenty twenty five out of Duke, Loki, Roscoe, and Marley,
Duke was the most common on the show. Katie was
asking for a source, and then the other night, while
having a nice family dinner at Steve's house, she brought
it up again. So I'm here today to give Katie
that context. That data came from two sources, the American
(05:48):
Kennel Club and the Rover app, which both placed Duke
above the other three. Wow, so you can quit losing sleep.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
But what's number one, Katie?
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Number one? I don't remember what is it? Luna? I
think is like number one girl? Well, I was thinking
for like boy and Dog, and then the other one
that was up there was I think Ruby and Max
are like both in the top ten. So you're doing
it Max, That's that's what I want to ask. Dog
is Ruby and his real name is Max?
Speaker 10 (06:18):
And Max at the shelby and nextra the day is
a four and a half, so our winner should get
nine answers and with that we're onto the game of trivia.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
I played the drop pill. Look, I need to know
what I stay under wind and everything.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I was saying everything.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Game on SUS Question one the topic is fishing. This
will be multiple choice Which of these lakes is biggest?
Is it Lake Okechobee, Flathead, Lake, Lake Champlain or Kentucky Lake.
Starting off with Omar's third best category, which of these
(07:09):
lakes is biggest Okachoby, Flathead, Champlain, Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Hmmm.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
This is measuring by the surface area square miles.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
M Hmmm.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Do I just going ever now?
Speaker 5 (07:29):
No?
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Which of these lakes is biggest? Oka, Choby, Flatthead.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Chap's a great question?
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Is a great question?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
You that's gonna win this one?
Speaker 4 (07:42):
No?
Speaker 5 (07:43):
I sort of guess. I think I don't know. What
would be interesting? Is the biggest like by volume?
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Mm?
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Very interesting?
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Is everybody ready?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth Oka Choby, Randall,
Oka Chobe, Omar, Oka Chobe, Nate, Champlain, mex Okachobe, Alyssa Flathead.
The correct answer is Lake Okachobe. We did well.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
That's a good guests lake.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
At seven hundred and thirty square miles, Lake Okachobee is
the ninth biggest lake in America. That's followed by Lake
Champlaint in thirteenth at four hundred and ninety square miles,
Kentucky Lake in twenty fifth at two hundred and fifty
square miles and Flathead Lake in thirtieth at one hundred
and ninety two square miles, so okachobe twice. Now it's
(08:38):
like fifty pig for.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
One on trivia. Oh it has never gotten one wrong.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Question to the topic is conservation. This is our listener
question of the week, which was won by Scott Prell
for sending this great question. Scott is going to get
a one hundred and fifty dollars First Light gift.
Speaker 9 (08:54):
Cardare is so bad?
Speaker 1 (08:56):
I want a chance to win the listener question of
the week, Then send your question to trivia at the
meat eater dot com. Who's got the bad chair? I
fixed it.
Speaker 8 (09:03):
I fixed it, so I'm not rocking it.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
You're trying to call in birds, We'll have a w.
Speaker 9 (09:11):
I stopped, sorry, Phil.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
This federal agency, which is known as the Long Blue Line,
is responsible for cleaning up oil spills in coastal waters
and the Great Lakes. Gosh, and the topic is conservation.
This federal agency, which is known as the Long Blue Line,
(09:33):
is responsible for cleaning up oil spills in coastal waters
and the Great Lakes. The room looks stumped.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
The Long Blue Line.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Hmmm, Seth came up with an answer. Do you like
your answer, Seth?
Speaker 7 (09:50):
Ah, I mean it's pretty midin I feel like it
makes sense.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
This federal agency, which is as the Long Blue Line,
is responsible for cleaning up oil spills and coastal waters
in the Great Lakes. Nate, do you have an answer?
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Yeah, but I don't think it's right.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Okay, yeah, I don't either. Randall's trying to gut check
with set No Alyssa, do you have this one right?
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Every time? I say no, it's right. So I'm just
gonna say, no, what's that? There's one.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
This federal agency which is known as the Long Blue Line.
It's responsible for cleaning up it's oil spills, waters and
the Great Lakes. Whose fob is that?
Speaker 8 (10:44):
I asked that last time?
Speaker 1 (10:46):
You know what. It's been here for months. At this
point they don't need.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Should see if it works.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Mhm, random key fob in the room.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
We could sell it at the auction house. About it is?
Someone access to this HR doesn't like that? Boy, I
really don't like my answers for this question, which is
what I don't know.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
I wish it said.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
The Long Blue Line thing makes me want to police agents.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
What if it was the long oarnge line that that
would be my answer. Okay, is everybody ready? Randall, are
you ready?
Speaker 3 (11:33):
I think we're all ready.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Since Max is just yeah, go ahead and reveal your answers.
Seth says e q Randal Coast Guard Omar without an answer.
Nate e p a Max Coast Guard, alyssa coast Guard.
I don't think it's coked. The correct answer is the
coast Guard. You got that? I will not know.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
That seemed too obvious.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
For oil spills in inland waters, the Environmental Protection Agency
leads clean up efforts, but for coastal and Great lake spills,
it goes to the coast Guard. The coast Guard has
a unique set of responsibilities, including and forcing federal fishing laws,
rescuing stranded marine mammals, and leading search and rescue efforts
on the ocean. No long blue line. You didn't know
(12:21):
that was the coast guard.
Speaker 6 (12:22):
Dude, The coast guards the least.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
Okay, let me let me put it this way.
Speaker 6 (12:29):
I love when the coast Guard jumps on like Narco subs.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
Everything else I don't care about.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Okay, what about rescuing stranded and fishermen and things of
that nature saving people.
Speaker 9 (12:44):
I love the Coast Guard cost guard fish.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
I wouldn't have gotten there without long blue line.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
That was a hint out.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
That was the only thing that you know. I would
also like to point out that I did write coast
Guard down before Max showed his board. It's okay, No,
no one accused you. No, I was thinking, show your
board to me.
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Except for our boys at drifter hydration.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
I've never met a coast that I really like.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
At times of war, they roll up under the navy,
they become I was singing that if like, if it
comes to it.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
I doubt that my question was likely.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Is it technically an agency?
Speaker 1 (13:22):
It is an agency. There's like, what is the five
branches of the military six if you count.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Space seven if you count the postal service.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
But then the Coast Guard is its own thing. Right,
We're onto question three.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Shout up to Charles top.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
This next great question is via Jason Marshall.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
He is a Coaskerman.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
North Carolina has more species of this animal than any
other state, with some examples being the dwarf water dog
and lesser siren. What North Carolina has more species of
this animal than the other state? With some examples being
the dwarf water dog and the lesser Siren. For how
(14:06):
specific you need to be. If you thought it was catfish,
you would put catfish. You wouldn't put like channel catfish
or just fish, you'd put catfish.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Dude, I'm sucking to day.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
My chair is squeaking now, warf water dog.
Speaker 8 (14:22):
That's bad.
Speaker 9 (14:24):
Listeners, please send your complaints to Randall.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Will also, I also think that most of the chairs
I sit in squeak, so maybe it's it's more of
a groan than a squeak. You might have to do
something with carrying capacity.
Speaker 8 (14:39):
Don't do that to yourself.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
The chairs love to see you coming, Randall. They're cheering.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
If they're cold, they're cold, they love it.
Speaker 9 (14:47):
They're cheering.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
North Carolina has more species of this animal than any
other state, with some examples being the dwarf water dog
and lesser Siren.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Randall.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Do you like your answer? Eh?
Speaker 3 (15:06):
For to Nate.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Do you like your answer?
Speaker 3 (15:08):
No?
Speaker 5 (15:08):
Absolutely not?
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Okay for to Nate.
Speaker 5 (15:12):
Do you know what I do?
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Like you?
Speaker 6 (15:14):
That got those guys who wrote in, Dude, shout out
to Kyle and Max.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Oh yeah, Nate ran in. Somebody ran an email to
Trivia at the meat eater. Dot.
Speaker 6 (15:20):
I ran some Trivia fans out in the wild. These
these dudes drove twenty eight hours straight from Virginia to
Montana just on turkeys, and Max shot a stud of
a turkey. Noway, huge spurs, biggest spur. I mean, I
haven't seen a lot of turkeys, but they were big,
Marriam spurs. No beard like the dinkiest little, tiny millimeter
(15:45):
beard you've ever seen your life.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Hm.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
They met Nate and it occurred to them later that
he was Nate from trivia. That's cool what you told
them you were to that f HF.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Yep, Okay, they didn't pick that up from the vibes
that you were the Nate.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
You know what I loved about this email.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
I love that they said he was Also, we didn't
realize we have met.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
A trivia champion. Oh wow, made me feel real good.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Thanks Jusy again. Question three Wildlife. North Carolina has more
species of this animal than any other state, with some
examples being the dwarf water dog and lesser siren.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Although I don't deserve that title today.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Everybody go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says frog
randal salamander omar, catfish, nate, snail, max songbird Alyssa Siegel.
We have a correct answer in Randall got it is
salamander wow water dogs. North Carolina boasts sixty four species
(16:46):
of salamander, with Great Smoky Mountains National Park, earning the
title of Salamander Capital of the World. The animals thrive
there thanks to the region's moisture rich, rainforest like climate.
The state was also largely on top by glaciers during
the last ice Age, which gave salamander's extra time to evolve,
adapt and diversified. There we have a picture of their
(17:08):
newest salamander. This is salamander number sixty four, a Carolina
Sandhills salamander. Scientists have known about it since the sixties,
but it wasn't until recent genetic work that showed that
it is its own species.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Four toes toes.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
I don't know how many toes. I think you can
have some whisky two on the front. Such a pretty culture.
They almost look as well like that would be something
Seth would have in his tackle box.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Yeah, oh yeah, it looks like it came out of
a mold.
Speaker 7 (17:39):
Carolina rigok in North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Yeah, the Carolina rig Carolina Sandhills, Salamon. That's good question
for the topic is hunting. The earliest example of this
weapon is from sixteenth century French hunters, who attached daggers
to musket barrels to protect them elves from wild boar.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
Thanks Spencer, I needed this, Hey.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Nate's back in it. The earliest example of this weapon
is from sixteenth century French hunters, who attached daggers to
musket barrels to protect themselves from wild boar.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
Done some training with these weapons?
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Oh, Nate, about that, dude.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
I listened to Trivia today on the way in and
you were fishing out hints left and right.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Woe what trivia was?
Speaker 5 (18:30):
I don't know the one where Brody won.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
I was doing everything other than getting the questions correct.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
Yeah, that was a tough one.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
I don't know how many good hints I could give
out when I just choked that one away.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
A few hints. Nate says he's trained with it, and
Seth said, it's hard to spell.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
What's your background, Nate?
Speaker 5 (18:48):
Infantry?
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Okay, I'm conkering on the.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
Coast, not coast guard.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
The earliest example of this weapon is from sixteenth century
French hunters. Who attached daggers to musket bear els to
protect themselves from wild boar.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Because yeah, he's probably got some old junk.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
I know for a fact.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Yeah, I think I've seen those, the Livingston Range. Yeah,
I think it's also the name of a very good
restaurant in Birmingham, Alabama.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Oh that's a good name for a restaurant. It's like
sort of ambiguous, but I'd like to eat there. Yeah, Maxwell,
are you ready?
Speaker 3 (19:32):
I can't think of it.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
It's go ahead and reveal your answers. Set bayonet, Randall bayonet,
Omar bayonet, Nate bayonet, Max Shank. Listen without I mean,
correct answers.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
What's going on?
Speaker 9 (19:55):
Tambourine felt that was the bayonet.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Phil Stacker.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Tambourinees.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
If we were a Monty Python film and someone if
Nate stabbed somebody with a bayonet, That's what sounded with me.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Yeah, I don't think i've since I sold an old
SKS what. I can't remember where I sold it?
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Would I world? When I worked at Dunham Sports, which
is like a Midway Midwest small sporting good store, we
would sell those. Were they like Yugoslavian assault rifle?
Speaker 3 (20:28):
You go asks did you get impacked in cosmoline? Mine
was covered in like just.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Like that liquid. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Yeah, And I spent like days in my parents' kitchen
just boiling parts from this rifle to get all the
cosmolin out.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
That was probably like the last eighty nine dollars gun.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
That was kids will never get to enjoy that. I
really loved it until one time it it just started
five like I pulled the trigger and it just ripped
off the whole the old chain magazine.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Yeah, Nate tell Us was in a Junkyard stabbing stuff.
Speaker 6 (21:00):
We had a whole course and we had to run
around and there's like all these dummy set up and
you had this basically you passed.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
If you screamed aloud, you must be doing it right.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yeah, said we should get a couple ugos and boxes
steelcase Wolf seven six.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Could you hunt with those things?
Speaker 5 (21:20):
Sounds fun?
Speaker 3 (21:21):
No, I just bought it at a gun show.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Yeah, I know, but like could you if you oh,
you go, Yeah, you can go.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
I don't know why you couldn't. Well, I mean in
Ohio we were limited to shotguns at that time.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
But yeah, early Bayonets were made of metal, wood and bone.
The hunters would stab wounded game with him, sometimes to
put the animal out of its misery and other times
out of self defense. Early versions were called plug bayonets
because they were jammed inside the barrel of the gun.
Question five. The topic is public lands. Saint Thomas, Saint John,
(21:53):
and Saint Croix make up this territory that's home to
America's twenty eighth National Park.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Wow, everyone seems so confident.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
Seth just had to sit there and watch Nate, Alissa
and Max quickly, right, Like, Saint Thomas, Saint John, and
Saint Croix make up this territory that's home to America's
twenty eighth National park.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
You say it, Saint Croix makes a great fishing round.
My brain was in Old Europe when he began this question.
It was in a gloomy monastery, and then we ended
up in a warm, sunny beat.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
That's a very different Saint Croix. That Saint Croix is
what I'm like the Minnesota Wisconsin border, Is that right?
This Saint Croi is a few thousand miles from there.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
This Saint Croix.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Yeah, okay, it's not any He changed back to the board.
We'll get a scoreboard update and fill the engineer. After this,
Saint Thomas, Saint John, and Saint Croix make up this
territory that's home to America's twenty eighth National park. Max
comparing it.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
Over there, just check it.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
I like to compare everybody.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Okay, wow, we now have four players have seen each
other's aunts. They all like what they haven Go ahead
and reveal your answers. Says Smoky Mountains. The rest of
the room says the US Virgin Islands. They got it.
The correct answer is the Virginie Jeez. Virgin Islands National
(23:36):
Park is located on Saint John, preserving about sixty percent
of the island and a portion of the ocean. The
land was donated by Lawrence Rockefeller to the National Park
Service under the condition under the condition that it would
never be developed. The park gets about four hundred thousand
visitors each year, which is more than some parks in
South Carolina, Texas, and California. Its main attraction is its
(23:59):
beaches and coral reefs. Also, it's donkeys. It has some
donkeys that you might encounter. So we're halfway through the
game of trivia. This is scoreboard update.
Speaker 9 (24:14):
Everyone' zoomed fairly well, but I will say that you
can kind of see a brody sized hole in the scoreboard.
We've got set.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
I don't see a problem, Alyssa.
Speaker 9 (24:25):
They all have two points apiece, Max and Omar have
three job Omar and Randall. He's got a perfect game
of five points.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Are you sure.
Speaker 9 (24:37):
Fairly certain?
Speaker 3 (24:38):
I'm positive?
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Question six, topic is cooking.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
Salamander, m you can go.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Question six, the topic is cooking. This sweet and sour condiment,
which is popular in Chinese American cuisine, is named after
the bird that it's traditionally served with. Alyssa says, she
oh knows this one. This sweet and our condiment, which
is popular in Chinese American cuisine, is named after the
(25:08):
birds that it's traditionally served with. Only one listen one
out of six players.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Can I find that Panda Express.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Not going to give you anything good for you? Lisa?
She has a lot of valuable so.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
I'm guessing that it's not gonna be sweet and sour sauce.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
I would not accept. I would not accept that answer.
Speaker 5 (25:31):
McDonald's Sweet and Sour Alean.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
This sweet and sour condiment, which is popular in Chinese
American cuisine, is named after the bird that it's traditionally
served with random word is Chinese food rank? Just put
all of your cuisines top three.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Oh, I don't know, I just I don't know. I don't.
I don't think about cuisines as being.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Ring.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
I mean, I love it.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Randall doesn't see color.
Speaker 6 (26:08):
But if you had to eat one for the rest
of your life Indian food, Yeah, agree, really.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Wow, totally, Alyssa, just just look away. This sweet and
sour condiment, which is popular in Chinese American cuisine, is
named after the bird.
Speaker 5 (26:32):
Oh, I hate when it happens.
Speaker 9 (26:33):
I'm rooting for you, Alyssa. I hope you're the only one.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Nate, do you have this one right?
Speaker 6 (26:39):
I've got a good guess, but I could, I could
imagine being wrong. It's done that time or two.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
It is named after the bird or named after a bird.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Dish, not telling you anything anymore, Okay, Okay, is everybody ready?
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Yes, Randall, go ahead and veil your answers. Seth duck sauce,
Randall duck sauce, Siracha, Nate Peking, Max General sou Chicken,
Alica duck sauce. The correct answer is duck sauce.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
I don't think we will. I'm gonna do the flavor.
Tax Duck sauce is an orange jelly that's made with
fruits like plums, apricots, or peaches, comped with sugar, vinegar, ginger,
and chili pepper. You'll often see it in packets alongside
soy sauce and spicy mustard. It's the American version of
(27:39):
sauces served with peking duck and is most commonly used
as a dip for egg rolls and crab rangoons.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
I was gonna, I was initially gonna say orange chicken sauce,
which you know, I.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Think it's orange sauce ducks.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
I was tripped up because I think logo has a animal.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
That's my best guess.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Okay, that's a good guess logic on your side.
Speaker 5 (28:03):
I got halfway there.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Question seven, the topic is hunting. This next great question
is via Sean Doherty. New Mexico's Blank Blank missile range
has given out ORICS tags since nineteen seventy four.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
We've had something like this before.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
We have talked about New Mexico's what they refer to
I think is like the Big Three, but we have
not covered this specific thing.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
This is not going to help me close the gap
with Randall.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
New Mexico's blank Blank Range has given out ORCS tag
since nineteen seventy four.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Oh Ma, you've probably been here here, yeah, hunting.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
When you were there, I wasn't hunting myself, but I
was with someone that was hunting ORCS.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Okay, did they fill their tag?
Speaker 2 (28:48):
They did?
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Did they have on range or off off? Okay, we're not.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Going to say.
Speaker 5 (28:53):
Is it who I'm thinking of? Rhyme with eighty billers.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
That's that's a good guy. I like that guy a lot.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
And is I know on range they have like broken
horn orts or just regular Is it the same way
off range?
Speaker 7 (29:09):
I think off range is just just an off range.
Steve had an off range tag.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
Did you feel that one? Yeah, I've heard that's a
tough hunt.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
It was tough.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah till the last day.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Yeah for us, tough hunt. But I think success rates
are still like north of thirty five percent for off
range really yeah, still pretty high.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
And I've heard that meat is some of the best.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
It was good. It was so hot was it hot
on your Oh yeah, killed one and gave me some
of the meat and it was delicious.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Was it?
Speaker 5 (29:41):
It was delicious, Gerald.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Henry, is everybody ready New Mexico's blank blank Missile range
has given out orts tags? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
White Sands, White Sands, White White Sands. Max says area
fifty one Alyssa without an answer. The correct answer is
(30:06):
the White Sands Missile Range.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Ulsa's white board was closed.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Half point philp. The White Sands Missile Range is home
to North America's largest free ranging oryx population. The heard
started from ninety five oryx that were stocked there in
the nineteen sixties and seventies. It's estimated that about five
thousand of them live on the missile range today, with
another couple thousand living in the surrounding desert. Tags are

Name four of the five vital organs in a mammal.
(31:01):
This is where Shelby got her half point. It's actually
three quarters point, but that would break the Shelby index.
Speaker 8 (31:09):
M hm.
Speaker 7 (31:14):
Hm hmm.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
We'll get a scoreboard update after this.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
What define vital.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
In in my flavor. I'm not gonna tell you anybody
NA four the five vital organs in a mammal?
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Well, there's only some.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
The definition is when you google vital organs in a mammal,
it says, these are the five vital organs in a mammal.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
It's probably one you need to live.
Speaker 5 (31:42):
Yeah, but i'll.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Mm hmmm.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
How's your list going, Randall? Are you trying to add
or eliminate?
Speaker 3 (31:57):
I I'm looking. I'm trying to think of my fifth. Okay,
I have other I know of other organs, so I
guess I'm doing elimination, but I'm trying to add a
fifth the same time.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Name four five vital organs in a mammal? Mmm? Maxwell?
Do you like your answer? No? He hates it.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Yes, yeah, oh oh we only need four? Only four.
Speaker 9 (32:28):
If you're at five, you don't it doesn't count.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
Yeah you put Yeah, I was going for five.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
That was stupid.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Omar. Do you have your answer?
Speaker 3 (32:38):
I have mine?
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Max? Do you have your answer?
Speaker 3 (32:41):
No? I need I mean.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Give Max think about what time the turkey described, Hey,
stop throwing.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
A mammal, but it might it might actually help Max
while we kill time for Max Epstein Island.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Is you can see Little Saint John?
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Right, yeah, you can see the National Park. I think
they're like twelve miles apart. Is that what I saw?
Speaker 3 (33:09):
You do want to bring it up? I didn't want
to bring it up on the podcast, but I did
right to Seth Epstein Island, and then I wrote Little
Saint John, Well, is.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
It Saint James James?
Speaker 9 (33:20):
Yeah, you take the Lolita Express to Little Saint James.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
I think it's good that I don't know what it is.
I've never been there.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Named four of the five vital organs in a mammal, Maxwell,
how we doing?
Speaker 3 (33:35):
We're good?
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth heart, lung, liver, brain, randall, brain, heart, lungs, liver, omar, heart, lungs, brain, kidney, Nate, heart, liver, lungs, kidney,
max lungs, heart, liver, stomach, use it was using my brain, olyssa, lungs, brain, kidneys. Right,
(34:03):
The five vital organs are brain, heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys. Everybody,
but Maxwell, you don't need.
Speaker 5 (34:13):
To kidney are so important? You need they give you two?
What about skin?
Speaker 1 (34:18):
That's a good point.
Speaker 5 (34:19):
You need a skin.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
That's the biggest organ of the body.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
Not in a mammal though. Okay, these are the five
pillars that keep the body of a mammal functioning, and
if any of these organs fail, the organism cannot survive
without immediate medical intervention. The non vital organs that a
mammal can survive without are the gallbladder, pancreas, stomach, large

Speaker 3 (34:53):
Scoreboard update.
Speaker 9 (34:55):
Maximilian is in last place with three points, what Alyssa
and Nate are tied up with four, Seth and Omar
have five, And still holding onto that perfect game is
doctor Randall with eight boints.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
He's already won today's episode, so I'm just going to
see if he can double that donation to one thousand
s knocks that question nine. The topic is natural history.
A YouTuber was arrested in twenty twenty five after he
visited North Blank Island in an attempt to give the
(35:29):
highly protected tribe a diet coke easy. Nate had his
answer before I finished the question. A YouTuber was arrested
in twenty twenty five after he visited North Blank Island
in an attempt to give the highly protected tribe a
diet coke.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Die cokes are good.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
It's an admirable quest. I feel like those people. I'd
like a diet coke.
Speaker 9 (35:58):
I would like a Mountain Dew company.
Speaker 8 (36:01):
Man.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
Yeah, code red specific.
Speaker 9 (36:05):
Nah, No Baja blasts.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
Okay, dude, imagine giving him a white.
Speaker 9 (36:08):
Board game fuel.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
I'd give him a bush light.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Wow, we'd really bring them into the year twenty twenty six.
Bush light, Baja blast, and a diet coke. If it's
the island vibes, Randall, are you going to get this
one right?
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Man? I know it. I actually read I was reading
something that referenced this in the last week. Uh oh,
and I'm just drawing a blank.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
It's frustrating, do you know?
Speaker 3 (36:36):
It's very frustrating, especially because conservation will suffer as a
result of my inadequacies. Oh take that one home with me.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
SI's less turkeys born next year. Randall, didn't know what island.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Is, and now I'm hurting Max by doing that, which
pains me even more.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
Give us a new update on the on the henhouse
out there. I haven't seen the ducks in a week.
Speaker 8 (37:00):
Okay, where did they go no idea. The hen and
eight ducklans are gone.
Speaker 6 (37:05):
Okay, I saw I think I saw the hen today,
the one that hangs out with the two dudes.
Speaker 8 (37:11):
That might be a different hend. Did you see any ducklings, No,
duckle I haven't seen the ducklins in a week now.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
They'll sometimes do a double clutch in a year, right,
So maybe she'll come back and have batch number two.
Speaker 8 (37:22):
Maybe, But like it's weird that everything's gone. Like usually
from the nest, they travel from the nest to the water,
and once they made it to the water, they stay
there and raise the duck LANs.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
But like, I don't know.
Speaker 8 (37:37):
If she went and found new water or what.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
But I don't think all of them died. Max is nervous.
Keep your eyes out in Bozeman. If you see a
hen with both of them twice a day. Eight ducklings, right, eight.
Speaker 8 (37:50):
Ducklans in a single hand, mallard.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
If you see a hen in sound, yeah, the drake.
The drakes are still out there.
Speaker 5 (37:57):
I saw three drakes in a hand today.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Yeah again. Wrong. Question nine topic is natural history. A
YouTuber was arrested in twenty twenty five after he visited
North Blank Island in an attempt to give the highly
protected tribe a diet coke randal. Do you have this
one right?
Speaker 3 (38:18):
No? No, I don't.
Speaker 5 (38:19):
Should I give it to you for conservation?
Speaker 3 (38:21):
No? No, then I'd end up fraudulent.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Score Turkeys wouldn't like that either.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
No. Actually, the great piles of fraud that constitute my
present existence.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
The donation needs to be Peter of art.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
Yeah, and don't let don't let pay back.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
I feel like mine might sound like it.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Okay, go ahead and reveal your answers. Without an answer,
Randall says Easter, Omar says Papa New Guinea. Nate says
Sentinel Max without an answer, Olyssa without an answer. The
correct answer is you're Northan sent all the island. Oh yeah,
(39:06):
looking for the YouTuber so I put down Jake Paul.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Northland was thinking he needed to find just worried about
it to look up the Papagan New Guinea YouTube account.
He's missing out all the good stuff.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
I think Jake Paul Island would just have a diet
code factory out there. Probably. The Centales are one of
the world's last uncontacted people's with only a handful of
outsiders visiting them in modern history. It's estimated that the
population of the twenty three square mile island is between
one hundred and two hundred. The Indian government enforces a
(39:44):
straight five mile exclusion zone around the island, which is
for the tribe safety and public safety. Besides the YouTuber,
the last person to visit the island was a Christian
missionary in twenty eighteen who was killed and buried on
the beach.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
That's who is the YouTube.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
My head.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
I don't know the guy's name. No, he had a
long last name with a lot of vowels that look
like it would be on the back of a hockey
jersey if that helps you not at all. We're now
looking at a picture that somewhere something of five of
the members of North.
Speaker 6 (40:17):
I don't mean this in a like how are they
not super in brad.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Genetic is real tight.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
I think they they believe the populations fluctuated between like
thirty and five hundred, and they'll go and check on
them sometimes after a hurricane rolls through, just to try
to be like, are they okay? Are are they doing
all right? But it's still a lot of it.
Speaker 8 (40:41):
But it's not like they would take the help would they.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
Well, see, that's what's such so interesting.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
I think they had one positive experience with some anthropologists
back in like the seventies who went there and they
gifted them coconuts, and I think they gifted them a
pig maybe, and that went okay. But then there were
some other bad relations where they took some members of
the island away. Those people died before the boat even landed,
and it's just like soured things ever since. All right,
here's a correct answer review so far. One was Lake
(41:07):
Okechobee two, Coastguard three Salamander, four Bayonet, five Virgin Islands six,
duck Sauce seven, White Sands, missile range. Eight was brain heart, lungs, liver, kidneys.
Nine was Sentinel phil school board updates.
Speaker 9 (41:27):
Still has a victory, butanks to Spencer jinxing it, he
has lost the perfect game.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
That's right, seth Omar and Nate playing for second place.
Here's question tend. This next great question is via Andrew Green.
This nine letter word is defined as quote any large,
thick skinned, non ruminant mammal, most notably elephants, rhinos.
Speaker 5 (41:54):
And hip hops. This is such a good question.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
Via Andrew Green. This nine letter word is defined as
any large, thick skinned, non ruminant mammal, most notably elephants, rhinos,
and hippos.
Speaker 5 (42:09):
I've heard this, but I don't have.
Speaker 1 (42:10):
It, Randall, Do you have this one right?
Speaker 3 (42:13):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (42:13):
Okay, yes, big zoo boy. I'd be disappointed if you get.
Speaker 5 (42:17):
No issue with.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
List zoo boy.
Speaker 1 (42:29):
Nine letter word defined as any large, thick skinned, non
ruminant mammal, most notably elephants, rhinos, and hippos. Randall may
be the only player who even comes up with an answer.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
Come on, guys, you know this.
Speaker 5 (42:42):
It's there.
Speaker 9 (42:44):
I take us, I say, probably don't.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
I don't know it.
Speaker 5 (42:48):
Really, it's we need to do a tiebreaker.
Speaker 6 (42:54):
Second place doesn't get decided and give clues.
Speaker 5 (42:58):
Everybody get some clues.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Everybody, go ahead, give them a clue. How I don't
know how you'd give a clue on this one, Randall.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
It's hard to spell. I saw the first three letters
of the word on Randall's board, and.
Speaker 5 (43:08):
I still can't tell the rest.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
If I had a real if I had a real
problem with my skin being too thick, what sort of
doctor would I see? Oh? Okay, and then if you
know that the dinosa, the dinosaurs that have a really
thick skull. Yeah, I think Phil. Can you look that up?
Speaker 5 (43:30):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (43:30):
I got I got it.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
The first three letters which were what? Randall? What were
the first three letters?
Speaker 3 (43:37):
I don't want to give that. I don't want to
give that.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Did you look up the dinosaur?
Speaker 3 (43:43):
Well?
Speaker 9 (43:43):
There are several, but I think I know what you're
you're talking about.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Yeah, I think that's the right name for it. Okay,
but I feel like I've just been reading too much. Randal.
You are correct in the Jurassic Park University.
Speaker 6 (43:52):
You give that in a weird order? Yeah, okay, cool,
I'm in it.
Speaker 1 (43:56):
Is everybody ready?
Speaker 3 (43:57):
I got it? Sounds maybe put her there?
Speaker 5 (44:00):
Thanks dog, Come on.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
Alyssa wants to get into that second place conversation.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
Zoo Boy podcast coming out spring of twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 1 (44:10):
Go ahead and reveal your answer, Seth without an answer,
Randall says, pacoderm omar without an answer, Nate, he got it,
packaderm MAT's without an answer, Alyssa without an answer. The
correct answer is pacoderm a c h y d e
r M. Packderm is derived from the Greek word pacodermis,
(44:35):
which translates to thick skinned. This is an obsolete term,
with modern genetic studies placing them in different animal orders.
Pacoderm is considered an artificial classification, but still a popular one.
All right, Phil, he is showing us the scoreboard. Randal
is today's winner with nine correct answers. He got the
(44:56):
Shelby index right on the nose, Randal. What are we
gonna do with that five hundred donation?
Speaker 3 (45:01):
Let's send this to the organization Outdoor Mentors. Okay, Steve
at Outdoor Mentors just recently wrote into us to update
them on what they're doing. But they're pairing kids with
adults who will get him outside, and they're expanding into
forty different states. And so let's send this money there
and get some more kids out in the woods and
(45:22):
on the water.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
Five hundred dollars that get a lot of fishing rods,
maybe a couple of guns.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
And if you'd rather have one thousand dollars versus five hundred,
you can thank the good people of North Sentinel Islands.
Speaker 1 (45:34):
Join us next week for more Meat Eater Trivia, the
only game show where Conservation.

Office John Randall, Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota. He's the host,
using those smooth mellow tones he lays them questions down.
He likes taking those two and three year old bucks.
