Speaker 6 (03:10):
What's up Everybody? I'm David Grubbin. Welcome to another week
of Classic Kids on the MLB Bro Show podcast The Mixtape.
As Marcus Simeon made his climb up to Texas Rangers
record books, ultimately finished some tied for second and team
history with his twenty five game hitting streak, he had
to pass one of the more unique and interesting players
of his Dick Today's classic kid is one of the
(03:30):
best leadoff men of the nineteen seventies and early eighties,
Mickey Rivers. For fourteen seasons, Mickey Rivers lit up the base,
pass the outfields, and the columns of newspapers. Wherever he went.
He may have been his eras Yogi Barrow. Mick the
Quick was credited with quotes like I don't get upset
over things I can't control, because if I can't control them,
there's no use getting upset, and I don't get upset
(03:52):
over things I can get control, because if I can't
control them, what's the use in getting upset. Pitching is
eighty percent of the game and the other half is hitting, fielding,
and my goals were to hit three hundred, score one hundred.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Runs, and state injury prone.
Speaker 6 (04:06):
It was said that he usually finished the year having
completed two of those three. Yeah, Mickey Rivers missed a
lot of games, but when he played, he could place baseball.
In those fourteen seasons with the Angels, Yankees, and Rangers,
Mickey Rivers held a career two ninety five batting average,
averaged eighty seven runs scored per season, and led the
American League in triples twice, stolen bases once, and was
(04:28):
a big part of the great Yankees teams of the
late seventies, winning two World Series titles. In the Bronx,
Rivers was at the top of his game in the
postseason from nineteen seventy six to seventy eight. Over six series,
he added three to zero eight and scored fourteen runs.
In nineteen seventy six, he made his only All Star
appearance and finished third in the ALMVP voting After hitting
three to twelve or forty three stolen bases, thirty one doubles,
(04:51):
eight triples, and ninety five runs scored. Arguably, the best
season of his career came in nineteen eighty with the Rangers,
the season he collected it hit in twenty four games,
then the franchise record. Rivers played in one hundred and
forty seven games that season and second career highs with
a three thirty three batting average, two hundred and ten hits,
ninety six runs scored, and thirty two doubles. He drove
(05:12):
in sixty runs for only the third time in his
career and finished eighteenth in the MVP race, even though
he was on an Rangers team that finished more than
twenty games out of first place. Yeah, Mickey Rivers was
one of the characters of the game. He was funny,
but he was no joke. I'm David Grubb and this
has been classic. Kids, now back to the mix.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Indeed, Og Margaret King.
Speaker 7 (05:43):
Griffy Junior may not have gone to an HPCU, but
he certainly has gone deep, helping him bring a classic
to Seattle for the All Star Week that's gonna put
black college baseball on center stage. Boy, the mlbog, Mark
Gray and I'm going d for the mixtape. Hall of
(06:05):
Fame players such as Joe Black of the Dodgers, Luke
Rock of the Saint Louis Cardinals, and even Andre Dawson
who played with the Montreal Expos and the Chicago Cubs
hone their skills at HBCUs before their legendary careers. But
now Junior has thrown his hat into the ring along
(06:28):
with Major League Baseball to produce the first ever HBCU
Swingman Classic presented by Team Bobile. That's gonna give black
college athletic programs and fifty HBCU baseball players a national
stage to be the first pitch of the Major League
Baseball All Star Game festivities in Seattle. With this game
(06:53):
being played on July seventh, this is a seismic moment
for potentially bringing more with black players into the fold.
You're gonna have a conditional group of African American athletes
will get a chance to shine, and you're gonna have
scouts from Major League Baseball on hand to see where
(07:14):
potentially the next group of talented players are and then
when they come off. Unless there was a conscious Hall
of Famer like Griffy who threw his hat into the ring.
Big ups to Junior for making sure black college baseball
gets a sean in the Emerald City. It's your boy,
(07:37):
Mark Gray the mlbog Rocket of Mic on the mixtape.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
It's the Black Report, the Black Age Report. It's the
Black Age Report, the Black Age Report.
Speaker 8 (07:57):
What's up, everybody? This is justin Patroley with the Black
Case Report on the MLB Bro Show podcast mixtape. Here's
where you get the latest of the melodated mal marauders
who are shoveling with precision and popping out all across
the big leagues. So let's check the report. All Marcus
Stroman does is win, win, win. The strow Show had
another fantastic outing on June ninth, as he pitched six
(08:19):
and two thirds innings allow him six hits and two
earned runs. First of the Giants, he picked up his
fifth win in a row as a cra is. Now
at two point four to two, he looks to make
it six wins in a row on June fifteenth against
their division rival in the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Speaker 9 (08:33):
Stroman on the ground of the right side. Nervous, Stroman
gets over quick feet, he taps the bag. Here's you go,
two on the ground to third, Wisdom up with it
over to first, and Stroman be able to do the job.
Speaker 8 (08:49):
After having his best start for the Phillies on June sixth,
fly Ty Walker continued his hot stretch, pitching another GEM
on June eleventh against the Dodgers. He went five minutes
and only allowed two hits when no earned runs. He's
now six and three on the year with an ERA
of four point sixty seventh below it's it's been in
almost two months. Josiah Gray pitched twice in the last week,
(09:10):
once on June ninth against the Brace and June fourteenth
versus the Astros. He pitched a total of twelve combined innings,
had eleven total strikeouts and an ERA of three point
seventy five during that span.
Speaker 10 (09:22):
No, it's still a lot more strikes today, no walks,
no free base runners. And you know, other than the
two home runs, you know, I was limiting hard contact
pretty well, getting pop ups, which are you know, outs
all the time, and sought groundouts and a few strikeouts.
So definitely looking at the process and you know the
results of the results. I'm never going to get too
bad to bent out of shape about the results anymore.
(09:43):
You know, I'm just sticking true to you know what
I do in my process, and you know next one
will be a lot better.
Speaker 8 (09:50):
Hunter Green pitched June eleven than Saint Lewis against the Cardinals,
where he went five and a thirds innings, giving up
six hits, three runs and striking out.
Speaker 11 (09:58):
And struck them out. Strike three, call pay all, strike three,
call Cruisier violations, violation, no matter what, and that's a
strikeout the field for Green.
Speaker 8 (10:15):
Even though the heart throwing righty has only one win
this season, he's third in the NL so far in
total strikeouts with ninety seven. That's the blockade support for
this week. This is JP the RUK. Now back to
the mass.
Speaker 12 (10:31):
Latest news with Can Griff the Joiner as you may

Baseball is a game of stats. I'm se basketball and
I'm the numbers man.
Speaker 17 (14:48):
Michael A.
Speaker 16 (14:49):
Taylor is known for his ridiculous club in center field,
patrolling the outfield as good as anyone else in the
entire league, and he has continued that trend of positive
defensive impact. However, he has all improved his bat to
the best it has been in over five years, but
the changes he has made are not what you would
expect from the Gold Gloves centerfielder. Last season, the Royals
reinvented Michael Ay Taylor as a hitter, as he put
(15:11):
up career best in strikeout and walk percentage at twenty
three point nine percent and seven point seven percent, respectively,
and this allowed for him to put up a ninety
weighted runs created plus, which is more than adequate for
a defensive outfielder and the best number he has managed
since twenty seventeen. Taylor signed for the Minnesota Twins this offseason,
and it seems like he has abandoned the strategies he
(15:31):
used for success in Kansas City. His strikeout percentage has
shot up to thirty four point six percent and his
walk percentage is backed down to four point nine percent,
which our career lows in both, but the results he
has earned from this actually have raised his weighted runs
created plus to ninety four as of June thirteenth. By
steering away from the low kate percentage and high walk percentage,
(15:53):
Michaelay Taylor has had a research and power, meaning that
what he misses and walks, he gains an extra basis.
His expected slugging percentage this season is point four to
thirty nine, which is much higher than the point three
to five eight from twenty twenty two, as well as
as expected weight on base average of point three h
seven being the best of his career. He's in the
(16:14):
eighty seven percentile in barrel percentage, up from just the
forty first percentile last season. This new hitting tactic, combined
with his return to base runks success at a two
point six base running runs above average, which would be
a full season best for him, and his consistent glove
at three outs above average so far, allow for a
Fancrafts War total of one point zero, which is already
(16:36):
sixty six percent of his war last season in less
than half the games.
Speaker 11 (16:41):
Michael L.
Speaker 16 (16:42):
Taylor is a true defensive wizard, being in the eighty
eighth and eighty third percent talent outs above average and
his arm strength perspectively and his new tactic of hitting
for power and his elite base running allow for him
to be an offensive and defensive bright spot in Minnesota.
Speaker 11 (16:56):
And that's it.
Speaker 16 (16:57):
Numbers never lie, so until the next episode, this is
the best team Ball The numbers Man bringing you the
metrics on the MLB bros because weak, some well known't
like the number man.
Speaker 15 (17:10):
Young Kris. He had to tell you about the bro Bombers.
He had to tell you about mo drama.
Speaker 13 (17:15):
What's up, everybody? This is Young Krit and this is
my weekly countdown of the biggest plays made by MLB
bros over the past seven days. This week, coming get
at number five Toronto Blue Jays centerfielder George Springer, who
had two doubles and collecting an RBI and a three
to two losses to Minnesota Twins on Friday. He continues
us at the table for the upstar Jay's lineups.
Speaker 11 (17:37):
George Springer jee to left field.
Speaker 13 (17:44):
Up next, and number four you have Saint Louis Cardinal's
outfit of Jordan Walker for a three day on Friday
with the home run and two RBI and the seven
and four win o the Cincinnati Reds.
Speaker 17 (17:56):
S night ball on the left and his force to
Donamans to crashes off the signage behind the bullpen. That's
the fourth home run of his rookie year and it's
a four to nothing deficit for the Reds.
Speaker 11 (18:12):
The Walker is a big guy, and I mean like
six feet six inches tall.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
That's a nice easy swing ride.
Speaker 13 (18:18):
Here sitting in a three spot, We've got Guardian's first
baseman Josh Naylor, who has a nice hitting streat going
and hitting all six Fish games last week, including a
three hight day and four two hit performanceists. And number
two this week we have Cincinnati Reds outfitter Will Benson
with his first career home run and it was a
walk up to defeat the Dodgers eighty six on Wednesday.
(18:50):
And finally number one our Quds count down, Guardian's DH
Josh Bell had himself a three eight day on Sunday
against the Houston Astros and the're out to a five
to nothing victory. Best of the home running the game,
and that's it until next week. I'm Young Chris and
this has been Chris con Down on the MLB Brochow
podcast mixtape.

Speaker 14 (20:44):
It's a freaking freaking fine so to find so fine
to be number ninety nine.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
There's another one. Hit another one, hit another one, just
said another one on the blast to hit another one.
So fine to be live Number.
Speaker 17 (20:59):
Ninety nine.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Field jabs there's his walkle of Lebron joining old man.
Speaker 15 (21:36):
Judge, what you got to say about the coaching?
Speaker 18 (21:46):
So the MLB continues to flirt with black culture and
your girl is here Ford. In a recent interview, Washington
Nationals infielders Dominic Smith and c. Dre Abrams revealed their
top artists, fashion choices, and lifestyle faith it. Come to
find out, Abrams is heavy on little babies freestyle and
Smith is tapped in with BX to plug when abs
(22:08):
who they would invite to dinner, dead or alive? Both
Nationals named Jackie Robinson and jay z Way to put
broken on the map?
Speaker 19 (22:17):
Who said you're done at thirty one? Miami Marlins outfielder
Jonathan Davis is pushing back against that notion and we're
all here for it. Davis is living proof that it's
never too late to find a home in Major League Baseball.
The thirty one year old journeyman has previously played for
the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, and Milwaukee Brewers,
(22:39):
never able to find a consistent flow with any of
these teams. The veteran has already had more than half
the at bats forty nine than he's ever had in
the season just eighty seven, without an opportunity to really
show what he can do for verdict was still out
on what kind of player Davis could be, but he's
provided a spark for the Marlins, who are eleven and
(23:02):
four as of June twelfth, since he was traded to
Miami from the Detroit Tigers on May twenty third. Even
after taking an zero for three power on Monday when
the red hot Marlins were one hit by the Seattle
Mariners and pitcher Bryce Miller, Davis, known for his sick defense,
is batting a solid two sixty five, slugging four to
(23:23):
twenty nine, and until recently, his OPS was above eight
hundred for the first time in a long time. The
Marlins are winning and staying within striking distance of the
division leading Atlanta Braves, so a journey to a possible
wild card is in play for a team that hasn't
had a winning record in the last twelve full MLB seasons,
(23:47):
and Jonathan Davis has finally found a home, helping the
surging Marlins turn disaster into a greater destiny. He's been
filling in admirably for JAZZI is a Moho is injured,
so we can't wait to see what lizahead for jd.
Speaker 9 (24:14):
Scale.
Speaker 15 (24:15):
The shot.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
To stay in the game, you gotta lock it.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
A lot of hard times, a lot of profit, a
lot of garbage, a lot of homage, a lot of promise.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Even when you straight out of content. Last man standing
in the back of Charles Johnson Bros.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Bowl pipe dreams make him a reality. Throws are freightling wills,
burn calories, bull count runners, going and believe us in
the bullpen, all out flowing the bros in the building,
double stripples, not double drimbles, Bobby von Sizzel. It's a
ritual game, brother like Herbie fucking I don't mess your
heart in the oven. Right is got his ball candy offten,
(25:00):
I'm bout twist Joe Morgan when my glove sweitch y'all

And now we're scoring to the music that moved with
the fusion Tamar Johnson bastall bowman. Then Mookie is back
with the soul.
Speaker 15 (25:15):
Blow that got his back.
Speaker 12 (25:17):
Just how the show go?
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Please leand doctor sticks.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
Let that from the flow back to really wear markets through.
Speaker 15 (25:22):
The stroke, show.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Skill, m we broke podcast in.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
The mistake, the noise.
Speaker 20 (26:10):
The hype for Cincinnati Read's infielder Elie dla Cruz is
through the roof, and people should be excited about his talents.
He's a five tool player, but come on, what are
we doing here? In his last seven games going into Thursday,
he was bad one to eighty five. People were making
(26:30):
it like he was hitting four hundred.
Speaker 12 (26:32):
I get it.
Speaker 20 (26:33):
People are excited. I wish there was the same energy
for Jordan Walker when he broke in with the Saint
Louis Cardinals and hit in twelve straight games to start
his major league career bat at three nineteen. Yeah, you
know what he got. He didn't get the hype.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
He got sent to the minor leagues.
Speaker 20 (26:50):
I'm glad he's back in the big leagues now, but
my goodness, can we pump the brakes just a little bit.
I love hype, I love anticipation, and sure you want
to be out in front of it and talk about
a player's potential, but this is outrageous. I'm rob and
that's my rant.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
That concludes another episode of the MLB Bro Show podcast
mixtape for this week. Remember we will gladly pay you
on Tuesday from an NLB bro double header today, the
heart of the game lies in the diversity of the
game and the spirit of black baseball. That things back
