Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Wake up, the morning line line up, all right,
here we go, Welcome in, Welcome hell to twenty twenty.
That is right the the end of the the year

(00:24):
and the start of all sorts of all sorts of
new here twenty an opportunity to start all over and
make it a very profitable sports investing year. And we
certainly plan on doing our part to help you along
the way. And we've got plenty of opportunities to start
off with profiting simply by we got two ball games today,

(00:46):
as you heard there at the top of the hour,
and the update. We've got a lot of NBA games,
college basketball games on the horizon, and don't forget, of
course wild Card weekend here in the NFL. So plenty
of ways to start in the black staring some money

(01:06):
and extremely a plan to do that. Nineteen year you
had a whole lot of New Year's games there that
that proved to be a lot of fun, culminating of
course with the Texas Longhorns taken on the utes there
and one of demolishing that was we'll get to what

(01:29):
happened here over the last couple of days. Get your
caught on anything that you might have missed, but we
do want to wish you a very happy New Year
and welcome you into the grid. It is Sports dot Com.
I'm Joe Nary. The show is the Morning Line. If
you are new to us, well, we're here to get
your caught up whatever they that happened here over the
last couple of days and get you caught up with

(01:49):
what's going on this week, including today with two bowl
games on tap, you'll have college football to be able
to wager on coming up at three o'clock this afternoon
when we'll travel to Birmingham, Alabama to watch the Cincinnati
Bearcats take on the Boston College Lions. Talk about that
BC getting ready to take on in Birmingham. And we've

(02:13):
got a bit of weather going on in Birmingham today too,
which is seems to be affecting the line a little bit.
We'll get you caught up with that and then get
ready tonight. UH. Two teams that you probably wouldn't think
that you'd be talking about in the bull season, but
you will be. And that is Tennessee the Volunteers taking
on Indiana the Hoosiers. If you can believe that, Indiana
unbelievable year this year and mostly known for a shall

(02:37):
we say a basketball school, rightly so, but their football
program certainly has come a long way great year this year,
and they'll get to prove that they are definitely along
with their big ten brethren, Uh, they are worthy of
this bull spot. And they will take on the SEC
another big ten sec matchup here. Who will win? Well,

(02:58):
we'll get you caught up with the latest lines there.
It's a heck of a lot closer than many of
us might have thought. But all in all, yesterday, I
hope it wasn't too hungover for you because there were
some there were some fun football games, There were some
great opportunities to be able to profit yesterday. It was
kind of a mixed day for both the professional betters

(03:20):
and Joe public yesterday as well as, to to be
honest with you, to sports books didn't exactly clear house either.
It was favorites went two and two against the number yesterday.
The overs we're two and two yesterday. The public ended
up winning big on a on the most lopsided so
far Bowl game this season, and of course that had

(03:42):
to do with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Nick saban
As the amount of money and the amount of handle
and the amount of tickets that came in on Alabama.
It made it the single most lopsided game yet this
year in Bowl games. Both public and professionals backing the

(04:04):
Alabama Crimson tied and it proved to be pretty smart move, guys.
Thirty five to sixteen was the final there they were
seven and a half point favorites, that being Alabama, and obviously,
UH no problem there, especially once Nick Saban found it, uh,
you know, found it necessary with with less than a
minute in the game, uh to go ahead and punch

(04:26):
the ball in instead of kneeling on it. But at
that point it was really pretty much out of the
way anyway. Thirty five to twenty six was the game,
and of course, uh sports books took a huge hit
too because of that three out of the four bets
backing Alabama. It was not a good game for the

(04:48):
books at all. And but there was a good game
last night and it was the most heavily bet game
of the night because Georgia took on Alabama. The was
in a late night game if you guys, kicked off
somewhere around nine p m. E sometime last night, and
Georgio questions, uh a galore about Kirby Smart in the

(05:11):
same Bowl game that they got their asses handed to
him last year against Texas, a game which many people
feel like, all right, Georgia, they got fourteen players, fourteen
starters this year who are not playing in this game,
many of whom are getting ready for the NFL Draft.
This is gonna be a bunch of freshmen and sophomores
and backups playing. They did have Jake from Though, their

(05:34):
junior starting quarterback. He hasn't decided if he's going to
the NFL andor not. Uh. This game opened up at
I believe seven and a half is what that number was,
somewhere around seven a half or eight. And the minute
it opened up all week long, uh, the money rolling
in on Baylor was crazy. It was immediately bent down
to I believe even at kickoff yesterday. Uh, it went

(05:57):
from eight to it closed it around three and a
half half last night just before kickoff, and uh, absolutely crazy.
The professional betters hammered all week long. The pros backed
Matt Rule and Baylor, and that proved to be a
very costly mistake for the Pros and again proving once

(06:19):
again that you know, just because, just because you're a
professional better. You're a big money better. Don't mean you're
always right, guys, we tell you this all the time.
Anything over fifty two point eight percent, you're a winner.
So naming another profession where you can lose nearly over
the time and still be profitable and still have a job,

(06:40):
the answer is professional handicapping. Because games like last night
where all the signs point one way. You know, Georgia
Bulldogs sec taken on the Big twelve. Come on, nobody
wants to play for Georgia, right, yeah, Well they played
yesterday boy, and uh yeah, they got beat down of fourteen.

(07:01):
Was the final proving that even the backups on Georgia
are still better athletes than what they got going on
into Big twelve. And with Baylor and Matt Rule now
has got to figure out what he's gonna do. Is
he gonna return to Baylor or is he going to
move on to the NFL. So there are some big
questions yet to be answered. And of course we had

(07:22):
a couple of other games going on yesterday, right Minnesota
taking on Auburn Wisconsin Rose Bowl. We'll get your caught
up with all of that. We'll do that coming up
next year. Happy, Welcome into the Grid Sports grid dot Com.

(07:43):

(08:06):
And that's promo code Action, first per cent discount. Tell
you dot com, we're millionaires are made all right, guys,
Welcome back in. It is January the second. It is

(08:29):
a Thursday in the year. Get ready for this twenty
twenty people. That is right, the year we have made
it to the twenties. If you can believe that's yeah
either can I just a scary thought here as we
were just h we were just talking here a little
bit off air. That keeping mind here we are about
I don't know sixty days away from pictures and catchers reporting. Yeah,

(08:55):
it is that time of year again, guys. It's kind
of hard to believe, sixty days away from Major League
Baseball kicking back on. Somewhere along the line, we gotta
mix in some March madness, NBA playoffs, the National Championships
still here, and of course the granddaddy of them all
there the Rose Boult. Now I'm sorry, that was last night.
I'm talking about the Super Bowl here just up the

(09:16):
road for me in Miami. That'll be the place this year.
It will be rocking. The question is who in fact
is going to be playing in that game, and the
beginning to figure out who that is is going to
start this Saturday, and of course this Sunday, and we
will get you caught up with the latest line and
the latest market movements in that game coming up here.

(09:36):
But as we take a look at the last forty
eight hours here, the final moments of two thousand and nineteen,
and of course yesterday in the in the Bowl series,
the Bowl games, uh New Year's Day Bowl games culminating
of course with the Rose Bowl and the Rose Bowl Parade.
Always a lot of fun there, But yesterday was going

(10:00):
to be Pack twelve versus Big ten, and that really
seems to be the big question mark with a lot
of these bowl games. Isn't it number one motivation? Which
teams are gonna be excited to play? And what? Which
teams could care less? Conferences? SEC. Everybody wants to prove
that they're better than the SEC. But are they going
to be able to Everybody wants to prove that the

(10:22):
Pac twelve is soft and that they you know, they
don't belong in the playoff conversation, and that playing a
Pack twelve team in a bowl game, Ha, it's like
a cake walk. Wow, I don't know how much of
a cake walk it was for Wisconsin yesterday in that
Rose Bowl game, A very anticipated game, a very uh

(10:42):
shall we say, a peek into possibly the draft coming
up here in a couple of months in the NFL.
You did have a You do have a quarterback that
in all likelihood is gonna be at the top of
that draft board, at least teams that need a quarterback.
He plays for Oregon, and and I gotta tell you
a lot of eyes were gonna be on him, justin Herbert.

(11:03):
What was he going to be able to do against
the pretty stout defense of Wisconsin. Now Oregon came into
this game yesterday getting three points. It was bet up
even a three and a half at at a couple
of points in the game. The total is well was
interesting in this game, um the way the total was manipulated.
For a lot of people yesterday, they were um that

(11:28):
it kept going back and forth, and I wasn't really
quite sure what we knew of course that the total
was gonna hang around around fifty two and a half
fifty three. Somewhere along those lines. It moved up and
moved down. There were people absolutely convinced that this was
going to be a a battle of defenses. There were
others that said, it's the Rose Bowl and there's nothing

(11:49):
but points scored in the Rose Bowl. In fact, five
out of the last six Rose Bowls except for last year,
had all gone to the over. And then, of course
you bring Michigan State in and you know they play
a what seven six games somewhere along those lines against
Oregon last year. But for the most part, you would
expect offense, especially with a guy that's going to be

(12:11):
up in the draft there in Justin Herbert. So the
game goes off with the Oregon Ducks taking three points
and you've got, really, you had a lot of people,
especially the public backing the favorite Wisconsin. You absolutely did,
which is why it never really moved in. The line

(12:33):
never really moved towards Oregon all week. Uh, it really
was a lot of public support for the favorite Wisconsin,
the big ten over the pack twelve that seemed to
be the big one. Actually only it's so funny, only
one third of the bets actually took Oregon. But because

(12:57):
those one thirds were a majority of bigger betters or
the professional betters, that line kind of stuck there. Even
though three quarters of those bets back in Wisconsin. Oregon,
that line kind of stuck three three and a half back.
The three kind of stayed there the whole time. So
it's interesting. That game was about as ugly as you

(13:18):
will see. Uh. Four turnovers by Wisconsin, one turnover by Oregon.
You had a situation where Wisconsin has a has a
kick return or a special teams returner that takes one
to the house ninety five yards on the first kickoff
of the game to them. Oregon comes down, scores a
touchdown on the first possession, right seven nothing, Oregon kicks

(13:41):
off and what happens yard returned kid takes it to
the house. Now we're seven seven two minutes into the game,
three minutes into the game, and now you're going, all right,
the route is all here we go, this is gonna
be a high scoring affair. The problem was instead of
Oregon going, you know what, obviously this kid is going

(14:01):
to uh, this kid is gonna be a problem here.
There's really no point in kicking it too now, they
continued to kick to him throughout the day. Uh. And
this kid tallied somewhere close to two hundred yards uh
in in returns, whether it be punts or kickoff returns.
So no idea why Oregon continued to kick to him.
It was just one. It was a comedy of errors

(14:22):
the entire game on both sides, including not one, not two,
not three, but four turnovers for Wisconsin. And then you
mix in, of course, a controversial flag at the end
of the game for that has Wisconsin fans screaming and
yelling foul about offensive pass interference. And then justin Herbert

(14:43):
the only throws for a hundred and thirty eight yards.
But what you don't see is that he also ran
for the first time and I think his career. Uh.
He ran for three touchdowns in that game, much like
we saw Clemson earlier last week there in the playoff
game against Ohio State, six ft six, big quarterback, long strides,

(15:06):
just gashing Ohio State on the ground. While that's pretty
much exactly what Justin Herbert did to Wisconsin, they really
had no answer for him on the ground. They couldn't
stop him inside the red zone. Three of the four
turnovers for Oregon for Wisconsin rather three of their four
turnovers resulted in touchdowns for Oregon. So talk about taking

(15:28):
advantage of their opportunities, that is exactly what they did.
I have no idea, to be quite honest you whether
or not Justin Herbert is going to be a quality
NFL quarterback. I have no idea, but I do admire
the moxie on his kid and his ability to be
able to get the job done. Finally, keep in mind,

(15:50):
this is an Oregon team that started the year off
and lost in very similar fashion to Auburn the very
first game of the year. And and had they had
won that game, also very similar. They had the ball
with a minute and a half left in the game.
They had an opportunity. All they had to do was
get a first down on their final drive and the

(16:13):
game is over. There's no way Auburn can come back,
but instead they throw up on themselves. They're not able
to get that first down, and what happens. They lose
the first game of the year, and ultimately it was
that game that kind of cost them along the line.
Of course, that and a late season meltdown against Arizona State,
who by the way, did a great job Herm Edwards

(16:35):
of taking care of Florida State there on New Year's
New Year's Eve. We talked about that game here on
this show. Herm Edwards has his team for the first
time in the winner's column in a bowl game. So
Arizona State continues to impress Herm Edwards continues to get
the job done. Florida State continues to be a hot messes.

(16:55):
They turned the ball over six times in that game.
But Oregon's UH of been two record now after beating
Wisconsin yesterday, it is uh it's their highest win totally
they since two thousand fourteen, when they won thirteen games
and of course reached the College Football UH Playoff there.
Wisconsin finishes ten and four on the year, but again,

(17:16):
just ugly, ugly, ugly. I don't know if Justin Herbert
is going to be a quality passer in the NFL.
He's certainly got the size, he's got the arm. Apparently
he can run the ball. I don't know what that's
going to bring. I don't know who's going to draft him.
I'm sure somebody will. I'm not quite sure that this
year's crop of quarterbacks, including Joe Burrow, great college quarterbacks

(17:41):
don't necessarily make great NFL quarterbacks. We will see what happens,
but I admire the kid for showing up yesterday in
the Rose Bowl and getting it done. Finally, kudos to him.
Kudos to Oregon. Wisconsin. Tough loss, but it wasn't a
refs call as to why you lost that game yesterday,
Wisconsin fans. You turn the ball over four times, simplest.

(18:06):

(20:22):
in here to the Grid sports grid dot Com. I'm
Joe or Nary. It is the morning line here as
we take a look here what happened over the last
forty eight hours the end of two thousand nineteen the
start of twenty is ahead of US wild Card weekend
coming up in the NFL. We'll give you the latest
lines there and of course working our way to a

(20:42):
National Championship game between Clemson and l s u A
was an all Tigers affair for the National Championship Game.
But before we get there, we had some we had
some New Year's Day games yesterday, of course, watching UH,
watching our friend Nick Saban there and Alabama takedown Jim
Harbaugh in Michigan once again in amazing fashion. All in all,

(21:07):
yesterday we told you it was a mixed day between
the public winning a couple of bets, the sports books losing,
the UH, the contrarian bettors winning. There were some interesting
opportunities yesterday across the board with those four Bowl games
two and two against the number on New Year's Day favorites.
Though throughout the Bowls continue to lead eighteen six and

(21:30):
one against the number. The totals yesterday to over to
under the over. It's continued to dominate here in Bowl
games nineteen fifteen and one, good for about fifty six percent.
Last night if you you didn't get a chance to
see it, Georgia took down Baylor and the Sugar Bowl.

(21:50):
They certainly this game opened up as an eight point
Georgia favorite, and the professional better has got UH got
their butts handed to him yesterday in this game. As
they were hammering Bailor all week long, I didn't think
that Kirby Smart or the or the backups since they
had close to fourteen starters on both sides of the

(22:12):
ball for Georgia agree not to play in this game
or sit out in this game. And so it was
a lot of backups, a lot of freshmen, a lot
of sophomores, and quite honestly, it didn't make a darn
bit of difference because Uh they beat bail Or soundly
to sixteen in this game. They also covered as that
three and a half point closing favorite, the only three
and a half points down from eight. That is a

(22:34):
monster that tells you how much money was coming in
on Bailor there to go from eight to three and
a half. Also stayed way under the total of forty
four in that game. So that wasn't the first one
to six was gonna win, really is what you thought.
But honestly, UH defense has reigned true and there Baylor
just could not get anything going offensively against that Georgia defense.

(22:56):
And you could see that early on in the game.
We told you about Oregon beating Wisconsin in the rose
ball four turnovers or what doomed Wisconsin. They dominated the
third quarter of that game Wisconsin. It was unbelievable, I believe,
if I'm not mistake in time of possession in a
third quarter. I don't think Oregon had the ball for

(23:19):
more than two and a half minutes the entire third quarter.
Wisconsin just continually shooting themselves in the foot with penalties
and turnovers, especially uh. Three of their four turnovers resulted
in three touchdowns for Oregon in this game, and ultimately
that's what did them in When it was all said
and done, so, the Ducks were a three point underdog.

(23:41):
They were plus one forty on the money line, So
I certainly hope you
