(00:23):
Wake Up the morning line line Up. Tess looks welcome

(00:53):
in on this Monday. It is January, it is two
thousand twenty. As we as we wake up this morning,
still morning, the tragic loss of Kobe Bryant and his
daughter Gianna, along with seven other folks that were on
a helicopter that went down in Calabasas, California, early yesterday morning.

(01:16):
It it just like many of you, I'm sure, we're
hoping to wake up this morning and uh and go, wow,
that was just a really bad dream. It's unfortunately, uh
the reality, and it is a nightmare for for many folks,
especially in and around uh the nine people who perished
in that helicopter accident. As the authorities try to figure

(01:40):
out exactly what went wrong, we here this morning have
begun to realize exactly the extent of how far this
tragedy goes, as not only Kobe and his thirteen year
old daughter Gianna, but we are also learning how other
families including a very well known and re spected area

(02:01):
baseball coach, his wife, his daughter um another one of
the girls, and her mom that was on the team
with Gianna. Also we've learned who the pilot is this morning.
We've also learned, uh, there was a area women's basketball coach,
girls basketball coach that was also on the flight along

(02:22):
with hard daughter in the list. It just, uh, it
just keeps getting worse unfortunately, as I am sure the
names will be officially released at some point um, but
there is um most of the folks, they're they're family
members have identified who these folks are on social media,
thanking everybody for the well wishes and of course for

(02:45):
the prayers that that go out to them. As it
is just a somber Monday here as we get ready
for Super Bowl week here in South Florida, and many
of us are still just trying to figure out what
just happened here. It's gonna take certainly a little while,
and we'll do our best to power through here all

(03:06):
throughout the day on the show, UH do our best
to try to get you caught up with everything else
that happened over the weekend in the world of sports,
and more importantly, try to get you caught up and
ready for what is the biggest football game of the year,
no doubt, Super Bowl fifty four at the hard Rock
Stadium in Miami. Uh it is uh, it is said.

(03:27):
I know they everyone landed uh yesterday overnight. In fact,
as the Kansas City Kansas City Chiefs as well as
the forty Niners are in town. They are ready to go,
and they will begin what is going to be an
absolute crazy media week uh here as many of many

(03:47):
of the players on either team, UM haven't had a
chance to comment on the passing of Kobe Bryant and
his daughter Gianna, but I can assure you there will
be plenty of moments here to get exactly the thoughts
of what Kobe was and what he meant to not
just the NBA players that we've heard from and some

(04:08):
of the other athletes around the world yesterday, but certainly
to these two teams getting ready to do battle uh
in Super Bowl fifty four with the forty Niners and
the Chiefs, and yesterday, UH, the NBA did go ahead
and play it's uh It's card of games that they
had on tap. I know there was some talk yesterday

(04:29):
about the would they go ahead and cancel the games?
They did not. Some very some great touching moments yesterday,
some UM shoutouts to UH, to Kobe of course with
the Spurs in Toronto with letting the second violation on
on both sides go off their number. Of course, Kobe

(04:50):
along with number eight retired in the rafters at the
Staples Center. Just a crazy night last night as the
Grammys were being hosted at the State Old Center. The
Grammys went on last night, a great opening tribute there
from Boys to Men and Alicia Keys UH to Kobe Bryant.
As organizers of that event were scrambling to do their

(05:11):
best to try and UH and pay homage to UH,
to Kobe and his daughter. It was a lot of
people scrambling yesterday trying to make sense of it all,
and certainly in l a as the outpouring of support
still from what we understand this morning out in front
of the Staples Center, as people bringing flowers and jerseys

(05:32):
and UM just about anything and everything that you can
imagine to help remember and memorialize Uh Kobe Bryant, who
meant so much to the city of Los Angeles. He
was and always will be UH synonymous with the Lakers
and what Jordan was for many of us who were
old enough to have grown up with Jordan's Uh Kobe

(05:53):
was for that next generation. Uh, he was the greatest
you've ever seen. And that's exactly what it was like.
And and many of the guys that currently, many of
the stars that are even in this league, grew up
idolizing Kobe. Many of them grew up wanting to be
like Kobe. Guys that like Dame Lillard and company that

(06:15):
just got a chance when they were very young early
on in the league to play with a little bit
older Kobe Bryant. But Uh, it was all throughout yesterday.
You could see in the uh in all of the
games across the NBA, the tears were following the reality
of the situation setting in. But true to for him,

(06:35):
like I have no doubts, one of the fiercest competitors
you will ever come across. And this is a guy
who you listen to every interview and you hear What
did Kobe mean to you? What did you love about Kobe?
And everybody will tell you that his unbelievable desire, that
fire to be a competitor and to win and to

(06:56):
win and do it the right way and just work
harder than everybody else was that was at the top
of everyone's list. And that's what he was synonymous with.
This was a guy that you know, on a blown
achilles goes out, shoots free throws in a game. This
is a guy that whose latter half of the career
was marked by injuries, whether it be n is shoulder.

(07:19):
This was a guy that battled through. He was the
toughest s o b uh that you would ever get
on the basketball court. And that's coming from some of
the game's greats that got a chance to play alongside
him and against him. They will tell you that you
feared the Mamba man. You feared playing Kobe because you
knew if you didn't bring it, he was going to

(07:42):
run you over. So I have no doubt that Kobe
would have wanted those games to go on yesterday, play
to damn game and compete and compete they did, and
we'll give you the highlights of those games. We'll get
you caught up with try to get you caught up
with everything else that happened over the weekend in the
world of sports. We'll look ahead to the Super Bowl
next year on the Morning Line Sports dot Com, Sports

(08:37):
It is the Morning Line. I'm Joe Ornery, and as
we try to pick up the pieces and UH and
power through move forward as the Super Bowl getting ready
to the craziness of Super Bowl Week. We'll begin here
today as uh. We have both teams in town here
in Miami just up the road for me now as

(08:57):
the Kansas City Chiefs and the Forts are gonna go
and UH and get ready to do battle here on
Sunday and what should be and what has anticipated to
be a extremely close football game, and the markets are
telling you just that. We'll take a look at at
where we are as far as the line goes. The

(09:18):
percentages the money whereas it landed. What's going on? Prop
bets will get you caught up with everything uh that
that happened over the weekend, including um uh last night.
U that the NBA games, of course, overshadowed by the
tragic news of the passing of of Kobe Bryant and
his daughter along with uh seven other folks that were

(09:40):
on that helicopter. The NBA did choose to go ahead
and play those games, as many who knew Kobe and
knew him well would say that he would rather have
it no other way except for get out there, get
your assis on the court and compete, because he was,
without a doubt, the ultimate competitor, and he would have

(10:03):
wanted nothing more than the game of basketball to continue
to play and at the very least give people a
few moments, uh and an opportunity to be able to
kind of take their mind off the the tragedy that
was yesterday. More and more information coming out, I'm sure today.
In fact, as the NTSB begins to uh begins to

(10:26):
go over the crash shide. It's gonna take a couple
of days, but we certainly know that uh they will
get to the bottom of of what happened UH in there.
We do know that there was a the pilot was
in touch with the Burbank control tower there. There was
no signs of any distress, at least being reported that

(10:48):
it wasn't as if the the engine was making these
crazy noises by eyewitnesses. UH. Fog, of course, is going
to be looked at as not even the UM the
County Sheriff's Department, air air crew there, and helicopters and
and an airplane. Nobody was allowed to fly in that

(11:11):
yesterday said conditions were just not suitable at all, or
say for them to fly, and they are certainly there's
a lot of a lot of speculation as far as
the weather and that smog and fog in UH in
southern California, that might have been a contributing factor, but
all in all doesn't change the scenario. However, we will,

(11:33):
I can assure you at at some point here over
the next couple of weeks, they will get to the
bottom of it, determine what happened, and hopefully UH learn
from it and make sure that a tragedy like this
does not happen again. But the games went off, and UH,
just like Kobe would wanted favorites, every one of them

(11:53):
eight no, straight up and against the spread last night
in those games that began or only on in the
afternoon around three thirty and UH continued as Brooklyn Brooklyn played,
the Knicks played, the Celtics played, the Pelicans played, UH.
It was Toronto played. Every favorite won that game when

(12:16):
eight no yesterday not only straight up but against the number,
and the Pelicans, UH, as a one point favorite, took
down the Celtics and Zion Williamson's third game. A lot
of eyes on Zion all weekend long, looking to see
how many more minutes will he play? See how he
rounds into shape? And you can tell that was their

(12:36):
first New Orleans Pelicans home victory, as they did take
care of business home teams war six and two straight
up and against the number. Yesterday the Unders shockingly enough
went five and three and that even though which was
crazy UH. The There were a couple of games there yesterday,

(12:57):
guys where I thought to eighty maybe even three under
it was a possibility for a total, including UH and
Atlanta and Washington Wizards game where zero defense was played,
and in fact the final score was one fifty two
to one thirty three. Yes, one fifty two to one
thirty three that have been a hundred two eighty five

(13:19):
points is a total the over would have been good there.
And the nightcap last night also uh, just a ton
of points one thirty nine, a one twenty nine Portland
with a healthy Damian Lillard and c J McCollum back
in the lineup as Portland takes down the Indiana Pacers
one thirty nine to one twenty nine. Of course one

(13:41):
two hundred and sixty eight points. Also hitting the over there, Uh,
Zion and company one oh eight over the over the
Boston Celtics and Zion twenty one points, eleven boards and
maybe more impressive than anything else as we continue to
watch Zion approached the game and what he means to

(14:05):
the New Orleans team and how they play around him. Uh,
his plus minus has been really really off the charts.
In fact, Um, he has been really really good on
the court, his team has been really really good on
the court around him. And uh he's already plus. He

(14:26):
was plus twenty three the night before in the Denver game. UH,
plus sixteen again last night in that Boston Celtics game.
So him being on the court is a is a
difference maker for this New Orleans team. So drew Holiday
of course points Reddick had seventeen, brandon Ingram sixteen to
go along with the with the points for Zion and

(14:49):
don't look now. Alonzo had a fifth career high fifteen
assists in that game against Boston last night, and the
crowd was going crazy. They did love it and Boston
was just it was. It was a rough go for Boston.
They missed just about every shot. It felt like that
they threw up at the basket there. It was not

(15:09):
good for them as they still I believe no jail
and Brown, Uh, they're still a little banged up here Boston. Uh,
jail and Brown went, I'm sorry. Uh, Tatum did not
go yesterday. Still knowing this Cantor It's unfortunately, Uh, it
was a rough go over Kemball Walker did drop in
thirty five. Gordon Hayward added twenty three, Jaialen Brown had twenty.

(15:32):
But it was their inability to be able to hit
from beyond the arc. Their Uh, their inability to hit
three pointers, which was really good. Three of seventeen is
what they went. Boston three of seventeen from three point
range during the first half, and UH New Orleans obviously
took advantage of that. They went into halftime really with
a insurmountable lead sixty two to forty two by halftime,

(15:56):
and UH it was just from there Boston hit just
sixteen of its verse forty three shots, which is why
there was such a discrepancy there. In fact, Boston, Boston
was minus one twelve on the money line there while
New Orleans was was minus one ten. So it was
a slight nod to Boston going into that game as
a road favorite. But sixty two forty two, they just

(16:18):
were not going to get past that. UH, and they
ended up taking care of business. But that Atlanta game
and Trey Young and company, Trey Young wearing number eight
in UH in Kobe's honor, UH certainly played. UH certainly
played like Kobe, and UH did an amazing, amazing job
here of dropping just about every shot that he went in.

(16:40):
Every shot he took would drop in there. Yesterday as
they were on air way to a one fifty two
to one thirty three win, which was just absolutely unbelievable.
What what they were able to do. Tray Young forty
five points, six assists UH for a six rebounds rather
fourteen assists on get this twenty four shots. Yes, Kobe's

(17:05):
number again twenty four, So Trey Young jobs forty five
on twenty four shots as uh as did a Son
Booker also dropping in a boatload of points for Phoenix
on in there lost to Memphis. However, Booker scores thirty
six also on twenty four shots ironically enough, so uh

(17:31):
kind of craziness there around. John Moranta also led to
day twenty three points, five boards, eight assists. As the
Memphis Grizzlies continue, they're winning ways at home and are
are very much alive for that final playoff spot there
possibly in the West. New Orleans now also making it
well known they have no plan on tanking, so they

(17:54):
also plan on moving forward as the trade deadline loom.
Somebod these team is that you think might sellers may
be standing pad or even beat buyers as they are
looking forward uh to making a runt at the playoffs.
We'll have four on the games FUM the n b

Daily Rohodo dot Com forward slash dunk. Of course, remember

(20:00):
that Daily Roado dot com that's where millionaires are made.
And speaking of millionaires and dfs and ducking on your competition, Uh,
it's been almost three weeks since we had heard about
and hard to believe because it just seems like we
talked about this last week, but it's been just about
three weeks after we unearthed. Was one of the biggest,

(20:26):
if not the biggest Daily Fantasy DFS contest controversy over
a million dollar winner. I don't think we've ever had
this kind of controversy, at least not on this kind
of scale. You may recall that DraftKings Um was investigating
two former Bachelor contestants who are a who are a couple. Uh,

(20:48):
and we're have said to have or been accused of
actually cheating to go ahead and pull out the This
started right around the I believe when the Seattle playing
it was the early rounds of the NFL playoffs had
taken down that millionaire contest, and Uh, there was some
thoughts that they colluded together in order to be able

(21:10):
to come up with the lineups, which again is against
the rules, and we all, many of us thought it
would be absolutely impossible to prove that that was what
was going on, as I believe the um uh it
was Jade Talbert who was a was a bachelorette or
was on the one of the bachelor's seasons, and her

(21:32):
boyfriend there who is a well known DFS player. Apparently
she won, but they had both submitted uh a hundred
and fifty lineups a piece or something along those lines,
making sure that they didn't uh, they didn't you know,
sit there and play the same players, and a lot
of the things everything led to people going there is

(21:53):
no way she had any idea what she was doing
to commit that many lineups and never have any of
the same lineups that he had played. Now, of course,
DraftKings did not want any of that publicity, so quietly
over the weekend, in fact, they made the announcement that
they had gone ahead and given the million dollars to

(22:15):
the guy who finished second or the girl who finished second,
whoever did, and then everybody else was notified after that
that they in fact did rule against these. Uh, this
couple and and I unidentified DraftKings player who was listed
just a couple of a couple of points underneath them.
He in fact was announced to be the one million

(22:37):
dollar winner. He was notified. Uh it is the first
time that DraftKings has gone ahead and taken away a
million dollar DFS prize. Um they did withhold the payment
and the payout until they were able to investigate, so quietly. Um,
they went ahead and did just that. Over the weekend,

(22:58):
they made that announcement that at Yeah, they there were
there were a lot of people on on social media
on Twitter that went ballistic when she won, and of course,
having access to both of their lineups, the Twitter sluice
went to work, uh and they that they were raising
red flags all over the place. And as it turns out, yep,

(23:22):
Uh they ended up where there was unfortunately, where there
was something to see. There certainly was, as they were
very critical of both of them. Now, no word on
what they're going to do. We know they were They
swore they did nothing wrong. But I am sure that
by DraftKings going ahead and uh giving the million dollars

(23:43):
away to somebody else, I'm I'm fairly certain a lawsuits
somewhere along the line is going to be filed on
their behalf against DraftKings. It's uh, this probably won't be
the last of the story. It'll be interesting to see
what their response is. But DraftKings did not discussed the
process of the investigation or didn't really say anything beyond

(24:06):
the fact that they have, uh, they have found that
they did not give them the money that they went
ahead and gave the money to, and everybody below that corresponding.
They basically eliminated those two from any of the prize
money that they might have had, which I think they
pay out, you know, so the top thirty or fifty
or something along those lines not to be had. Guys,

(24:27):
it was a million dollars scandal, now million dollar scandal
that was found to be real. So congratulations those of
you that found it on Twitter and went to Draft
Kings and screened and yelled, especially if you were somebody
that profited it, because there was a pretty big difference
between the million dollar prize and everybody else underneath. So

(24:50):
moving up a space or two probably very profitable to
a lot of those DFS players. So we'll see what
happens and goes from there. But interesting enough that was
quietly over the weekend announced how they would not be
paying out that million dollars to the bachelor and Bachelorette contestants. There.

(25:11):
What a shock, absolute shock. So of course yesterday, UM,
the sports world, everybody all over the world, in fact,
the global icon that Kobe Bryant was was morning exactly. UM,
the news that came out early yesterday, ten am up.

(25:33):
Just a helicopter crash. Nobody knew the stories that kept
coming out, and this is unfortunate reality of the world
that we live in right now. We heard Kobe Bryant
that was reported. TMZ was the first on the story
to report that Kobe Bryant had passed in a helicopter accident. UH.
And then from there it was this battle of who

(25:56):
was going to get the next bit of the story first.
And it didn't make a difference whether it was right
or not, It just meant to UH. We wanted to
see exactly who was going to go ahead and get
the headlines because TMZ was the first to report it
and a lot of the other UH, a lot of
the other outlets were very hesitant or were late to

(26:18):
the game. And then they were playing catchup, and when
they were playing catch up, that's when things really start
to go sideways. I know there was a report on
ABC at one point that um, they were reporting that
all his daughters were on the plane, and it just
the it went absolute craziness from there. TMZ of course

(26:40):
ended up reporting that it was not all those daughters,
but in fact Gianna, his thirteen year old daughter there
that was on the plane with him, was on the
helicopter with him. But they only said it was five
people until we heard the sheriff talk. Then it turned
into nine people. And it's just this very unfortunate reality
that we live in right now, especially with social media

(27:02):
and the media, where it's just we don't care if
it's right or wrong. We just want to be the
first one to the table to get credit. And as
TMZ got it right, uh, at least most of it.
But even TMZ didn't have all the facts, and the
fact that they only reported there were five people when

(27:23):
there were nine people, UH is kind of ridiculous in itself,
where they could have just left it at if they
were in fact told about Kobe or somebody leaked at
to Kobe about Kobe and his daughter, But to say
five when there was nine, and you know, think about
those families that might have that had loved ones on

(27:44):
that plane, knew they had loved ones on that plane. Uh.
And certainly the sheriff yesterday, Uh, he was not happy.
He absolutely took a shot at t MZ yesterday and
it was um And don't blame the guy in the
least bit. We're winning the rival of the Corners office
to assist in the recovery of the remains. As the

(28:06):
chief indicated there were no survivors. We haven't manifested indications
that there was nine people on board the aircraft, the
pilot plus eight individuals. There is wi speculation and who
the identities are. However, it is been entirely inappropriate right
now to identify anyone by name until the corner has
made the identification through their very deliberated prophets, and they

(28:28):
made notifications in next of Kim. And it would be
extremely disrespectful to understand that you love one of those
errors that you learned about it from TMZ. That is
just wholly inappropriate. So we're not going to be going there. Yeah,
that was a big shot towards d MZ. But again
an unfortunate reality of the world that we live in. Uh.

(28:49):
And even though TMZ had incredible information about Colby, UH,
it didn't come out with Colby and his daughter. At first,
it only came out Kolby and five other people or
five total people on the plane. Uh. And then it
was that his wife and Essa wasn't one of them.
And then it just it started leaking. But as you
can imagine, as authorities are on trying to figure out

(29:12):
exactly what's going on there, that spreads so fast that
if you knew you had a loved one and it
wasn't five, if you knew you had a loved one
that was on that flight with Kobe, then uh, that's
how you learned. That's the reality of how you learned here.
So it just a terrible situation across the board yesterday,
not just for um all of us who knew and

(29:34):
uh you know, knew of and watched and grew up
with Kobe and his daughter and his family, and but
of course the family members and everyone else associated with
that horrific crash yesterday, all of which whom are affected
and their lives on this Monday are now completely changed
forever and hopefully the we will get to the bottom

(29:57):
of it all and the official report will be made
and hopefully there is something to be learned about what
caused this accident and maybe, just maybe we can learn
from it. Uh any aviation community can learn from it
and hope that tragedy like this would would never happen again.
So we'll keep you posted as always if anything up

(30:18):
breaks here this morning throughout the morning here on the Grid.
But we'll also go ahead and take a look at
the day ahead of us as well as Super Bowl

You just grow as a person, you grow as a man.
I see you with your family. How are you guys
gonna celebrate tonight? Well, we'll probably let them have soda

(31:33):
and we can, you know, spill some champagne around a
little bit. Kobe Bryant talking about winning the the NBA
Finals as well as the m v P back in
two thousand and nine. And uh, we certainly have a
bunch of a bunch of great audio clips to personify
exactly who Kobe Bryant was, not only as a player,

(31:55):
but as a father, uh and as a man. And
uh he will uh he no longer be here, but
he certainly will not be forgotten in any way, shape
or form, especially by the game of basketball and all
those that he touched, not only here in the States
and in l A but certainly around the world. And
many of the NBA players, both current and past, will

(32:18):
tell you that uh Kobe Bryant certainly uh may not
have ever met him and you may not have ever
talked to him, but I can assure you that Kobe
Bryant touched an awful lot of people by who he
was on that basketball court, how he conducted his business,
and how he went about life. And he wasn't a
very public guy after his playing career, but there were

(32:42):
many who were saying that at his post NBA career
was going to be even more successful than that of
what he did on the court, and it was certainly
trending in that way. But Kobe was first and foremost
a a father, and he was a he was a
eight father, and Gianna was right there next to him.

(33:05):
A lot of the lot of the photos and a
lot of things that you will see was that she
shared that love of basketball and that passion of basketball
with her dad, and uh, that will that will be
remembered for certain as on this Monday, we try to
all pick up the pieces and try to move on,
but we will not forget, uh any time, exactly the

(33:26):
impact that Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest, if not
the greatest, that an entire generation had seen um passes
away at the age of forty one in that accident
yesterday and as information comes out, we will provide it
to you, but I don't think it's going to be
anything anytime soon, any sort of definitive as to the
cause of the crash just yet. But we do have

(33:50):
Super Bowl Week. We do have two teams that landed
in Miami last night getting ready to do battle. Uh.
The craziness of the what is known as media week
here for the Super Bowl, and uh, it is going
to be absolute craziness here as we moved forward, and
we did, have, of course a Pro Bowl yesterday in Orlando,

(34:13):
which was also a few guys had managed to put
a little, uh, a little wager on that while the
a f C went ahead and took care of business
it it looks like they won thirty eight thirty three.
That's their fourth consecutive win in Orlando. Those of you
that took the over, uh, congratulations because that was without

(34:33):
a doubt the rights play to go with as defense
was not exactly anywhere to be found there yesterday. And
not only did we have the Pro Bowl which covered,
I believe the a C covered. They were one and
a half point favorite, but the betting total of fifty
five points and it was it continued to get bet
up to opened up at fifty one and a half,

(34:56):
closed at fifty five, but they went way over that total.
So the over and the favorites cover as the a
f C beats the NFC. And previous to that, we
did have, of course a uh. We had an NHL
All Star Game on Saturday. Of those of you that
dove into that, the Pacific beat Atlantic five four. They

(35:17):
were minus one favorites. In the title game they were
plus two fifty pre tournament and the under and think
about this, the under twelve and a half goals sound
that there's some defense for you. Atlantic also beat Metro
nine five. They were minus one thirty five favorites. The
over hit there in twelve and in the semifinal Pacific
beat Central ten five. It was a pick them the

(35:39):
over twelve and a half cash in on that. So
as the NHL gets ready to embark on their second
half of the of the year, um, the NBA will
be getting ready of course for a trade deadline that's
just a couple of weeks away. Then the All Star
Game will take center stage here as the team's still

(36:00):
have to be picked. But the NHL uh that All
Star Game, the NFL All Star Game. Now the whole
it's left is the Super Bowl at this point, along
with the march to a NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, which,
let's be honest, is, if you don't watch any hockey
all year long, the NHL playoffs are its own season

(36:20):
and its own UH set of betting. Uh let's say
strategy when it comes to it. But the bottom line
is it is certainly one of the most thrilling things
in all of sports, and there is something very unique
about the march to a Stanley Cup, and UH, it's
gonna be a lot of fun watching that. And we'll
get you caught up, of course, all throughout the network

(36:41):
as we lead up to the second half of the
NHL season, But in the meantime, as we take a
look at what's going on with the markets for the
Super Bowl, and it's it's still hovering right around that
minus one, minus one and a half as it continued,
the money continues to come in, and not much has

(37:03):
changed as far as UH perspective, other than we did
see over the weekend in some places we did see
a little bit of forty niner money start to trickle in,
certainly out West, and when I say a little bit.
I'm talking about where you're looking at a minus one
even uh even a half in some in some books

(37:26):
around the country where certainly the ones out west where
it appears that some of that niner money starting to
to flow in. But on the East coast, I believe
we're still looking at a minus one. The total, after
rocketing up to fifty five in some places, seems to
have leveled off. We're still seeing a lot of fifty
four and a half fifty four uh and one or

(37:49):
two fifty five's around the country as well in the book.
So it does appear as if that total has has
plateaued a little bit. And I do, uh, I do
think it's going to maybe come down even a little
bit more, especially this week as as folks really start
to spend their time and the public and I don't
think we've seen any of the real public money start

(38:11):
to roll in just yet, but we will and uh
and it will begin all week as as the headlines
come out and the analysis comes across, you'll see exactly
how influenced the public is by some of what they hear.
And what they're gonna hear is that we've got two
very good defenses going at each other. You're going to

(38:32):
hear how the forty Niners are, without a doubt, the
better team, and how they are a complete team. And UH,
that will, without a doubt influence a lot of the
public bets. I have no doubt as many of the pundits,
many of the pros are telling you how great San
Francisco is. While there will definitely be uh, I know

(38:52):
Kansas City is is there is a minus one favorite
across the board in a lot of places. I don't
know how much longer that's going to last, because as
more and more people express their opinions on the game,
the more and more you keep hearing how San Francisco
is just they have been the most dominant and complete
team all year long. And while we concentrate on Patrick

(39:16):
Mahomes and the offense of the Kansas City Chiefs, the
reality is their offense was second to the San Francisco
forty Niners. And yet nobody talks about the San Francisco
forty Niner offense. They talk about their defense, but when
you look at the numbers, they're better than what the
Kansas City Chiefs provided us this year. So I do

(39:36):
think as those headlines come out. I absolutely think that's
going to influence a lot of where the money goes.
Uh So we'll keep you, of course posted each and
every day, start diving into if you haven't done so,
we'll start talking about how to make some of the
how to make some money they're on prop bets, and
Lord knows there's enough of those that are out and

(39:58):
about and available right now. We'll go over a lot
of those coming up next hours we look to make
it rain. We'll really start diving into some of the
trends and some of the things that we've that we've heard,
that we've learned as we get ready to minus six
days here for Super Bowl fifty four in Miami at
hard Rock Stadium. But it does bring me to another point.

(40:20):
I wanted to just mention because we talked a lot
throughout the season, and this is a good gambling you
for you guys. This morning we talked about throughout the
season how understanding the market in the NFL and understanding
what betting limits provide you as a as a better

(40:41):
in understanding the market because you have one game a week,
whether it be Thursday night, Sunday night, Monday, Sunday Monday,
whatever it is. Um, we we told you the progression
of the limits that sports books allow and how you
could read those into understanding where do the pros lie?

(41:03):
Where are the big money betters going? Right? We always say,
don't overthink the room, follow the money. In a lot
of instances, the money will often be the opposite side
of where the public is going. So once you can
identify where the public is and where the pros are,
it gives you a little better indicator as far as

(41:24):
what side maybe you should be looking at. And certainly
we have seen many many instances where they both aligned
on the same team, but many times the pros are
going one way the public is going the other. And
the best indicator of them all we told you throughout
the NFL season was watch what happens game day, Watch

(41:45):
what happens prior to kick off, because that's when these
sports books lift a lot of those limits, and that's
when you can really get a real clear indicator with
what happens to the line as far as who's betting why,
because the money changes and so the question is what
do you do in the NBA, Well, how are you

(42:08):
supposed to do it in the n B A where
you've got games every night. So if you've got games
every night, how is it that you are supposed to
determine what goes on there? And the reality is it's
the same thing as the NFL, only it's more nightly.
So what that means is that while yes, it's important
to follow the early line movement as to where did

(42:31):
it open up and and where did it go, but
it's even more important, guys, to follow it just before
tip off because very similar to the NFL, the n
b A right before tip of, about an hour before
tip off, those limits they they're much higher just before
tip off than they are at let's say seven o'clock

(42:54):
in the morning the day of the game. So it's
best in the n b A if you're gonna be
follow going to market and want to know exactly where
are the pros, where the joes? You want to read
what's happening. Don't pay so much attention to the early
line movement. Pay attention to the late line movement. And
again that is in direct correlation with the amount of

(43:17):
money the sports books allow people to show up to
the window and bet. And that's really the reality of it, guys.
The reality is While it's nice to say, well, this
opened up at two, but overnight the line moved, it's
now a pick them, which is nice. You know, it
tells you what some of the early betting betting is
and that's probably not public money anyway, because nobody's up

(43:38):
at twelve oh one placing bets on NBA games. However,
it's the late line movement, that very late line movement
within an hour of tip off that you really want
to pay close attention to because that's when the limits
are hot, the highest that they are all day, and
that will give you a real indicator as the pros
usually wait right around to that particular time to to

(44:01):
go ahead and hammer a team that they that they
like the most on the card, and you can always
tell what the line movement where the pros lie. So
while early line movement is a good indicator, keep an
eye on it in the NBA world, but really pay
attention to that late line movement prior to tip off,

(44:21):
just prior to tip off, and that will be a
really good indicator for you, is to where the pros
lie versus the joes. And again sometimes it may not
be on the same page. Sometimes they may, but concentrate
that last hour before tip off, watch the Pope. Then
let's tell you. I'll tell you everything you need to
know about the super Bowl coming up here on the grid.

(44:44):
If we look to make a brain that will be
next to Luck of plays Lucky Mark. I'm going there.

Would you miss on the morning line? Shoutouts to to

(45:25):
Kobe of course with the Spurs in Toronto, with letting
the second violation on on both sides go off there
number of course, Kobe along with Number eight retired in
the rafters at the Staples Center. Just a crazy night
last night as the Grammys were being hosted at the
Staples Center. The Grammys went on last night, a great
opening tribute there from Boys to Man and Alicia Keys

(45:48):
to Kobe Bryant. As organizers of that event, we're scrambling
to do their best to try and uh and pay
homage to U to Kobe and his daughter. It was
a lot of people scrambling yesterday trying to make sense
of it all, and certainly in l a as the
outpouring of support still from what we understand this morning
out in front of the Staples Center, as people bringing

(46:10):
flowers and jerseys and um, just about anything and everything
that you can imagine to help remember and memorialize UH
Kobe Bryant, who meant so much to the city of
Los Angeles. He was and always will be UH synonymous
with the Lakers and what Jordan was for many of
us who were old enough to have grown up with
Jordan's Uh Kobe was for that next generation, Uh, he

(46:33):
was the greatest you've ever seen. And that's exactly what
it was like. And and many of the guys that
currently many of the stars that are even in this
league grew up idolizing Kobe. Many of them grew up
wanting to be like Kobe. Guys that like Dame Lillard
and company that just got a chance when they were
very young early on in the league to play with

(46:54):
a little bit older Kobe Bryant. But it was all
throughout yesterday you could see in the UH in all
of the games across the NBA, the tears were flowing,
the reality of the situation setting in, but true to
for him, like I have no doubts, one of the
fiercest competitors you will ever come across. And this is

(47:14):
a guy who you listen to every interview and you
hear what did Kobe mean to you? What did you
love about Kobe? And everybody will tell you that his
unbelievable desire, that fire to be a competitor and to win,
and to win and do it the right way and
just work harder than everybody else was that was at
the top of everyone's list, and that's what he was

(47:35):
synonymous with. This was a guy that you know, on
a blown Achilles goes out shoots free throws in a game.
This is a guy that whose latter half of the
career was marred by injuries, whether it be me shoulder.
This was a guy that battled through. He was the
toughest s O b uh that you would ever get
on the basketball court. And that's coming from some of

(47:56):
the game's greats that got a chance to play alongside
him and against him. They will tell you that you
feared the Mamba man. You feared playing Kobe because you
knew if you didn't bring it, he was going to
run you over. So I have no doubt that Kobe
would have wanted those games to go on yesterday, play
the damn game, and compete
