Speaker 1 (00:14):
Gilt. Hi, guys, welcome to d PHP. I'm Booker, no Perez.
Once again, I would think we're going to get an
update from Perez himself. I'm looking at Thursday for the
Patreon show. If you're a subscriber there, you'll get the
full story rundown of what's going on with Perez. I
(00:35):
think he'll be up to snuff by then, but uh,
you know, he's taking his time with what he's got
going on, and yeah, we'll just keep it at that.
It's it's his story to tell. I've said that before
and I'll just stick with that, and uh, we will
roll on. I'll give you some of the greatest moments
that you've never heard. If you're not a Patreon subscriber,
we'll go back into the archives and play you some
(00:58):
stuff so you could get a taste of and Booker together.
A little bit later on in the episode, I did
want to mention a couple of things SNL and the
new Harry Styles album. I wanted to start there. Then
we'll get to the oscars. But I did listen to
the New Harry Styles and I think a lot of
people have been curious to what Perez and I think
I've seen it on our message board on the Patreon
(01:19):
quite a few times. The album. I always say I
like to live with things a little bit before I
make like a rushed decision on anything, because I think
you know, anything good grows on you. Like Aperturred, the
song the first release from Harry Styles. Not a hit.
I can't say it any other way. I mean kind
of a bomb. It's not streaming. That's usually the first sign.
(01:41):
If you don't see crazy monster streams, especially when you
have a crazy monster fan base to begin with, you know,
you'll see great streams on the first couple of days.
If it maintains or even goes down a little bit,
it's fine. If it's just a little bit. This fell
off of a cliff, I mean, it just disappeared. I
do like Aperture. I think it's very radiohead esque. I've
(02:04):
said that before. It does sound like something off of
you know, Okay Computer. I could definitely tell he wanted
to go in that sort of alternate direction. It's not
a pure pop song by any means. Whenever you have
a song that's got a fifty second intro, that'll tip
you off right there. Pop songs don't have fifty second intros.
But I did like the song. I listened to the album,
(02:26):
I went through the whole thing. I went through with
my wife, whom had a little bit of a different
take than me. Kellen's been on the show the past
couple of shows. I'm sorry she can't be on today's show.
She's stuck in the Oscars puddle, which will last a
couple of days between the parties, the shows, the speeches,
blah blah blah. We'll get to that. But I think
there were a couple of ballads, some of the lyrics
(02:48):
that I think she really connected with and she was like, oh,
that's good. I didn't have the same feeling while listening
to it. I'm not a lyrics person on the first
couple of listens, to be honest with you, I'm barely
a lyrics person on any artist. I hear the musicality
of songs first. I believe those are the things that
(03:08):
kind of stick with you, the earworms and things that
make songs a hit. I think you could just basically
put gibberish in some of the songs. That's what a
Korean drinking game gibberish to me. Okay, huge hit song
it's about the cadence of how things flow. But with
that said, listening to the rest of the Hairy album,
(03:29):
I don't think as good as Aperture even I think
it's a lot of flat sounds. It's just very non
interesting to me. Pres and I have talked about Somber
and he doesn't get somber. He's funny because if he
doesn't get something initially, it takes him forever to change
his mind. Because he didn't like Back to Friends, which
you know, it's a huge smash, but the twelve to
(03:52):
twelve song is also becoming a very big hit song,
and it's a great song, and it to me, it
showcases you just look at those two songs. To me,
it's what Harry Styles album is trying to be. And
it's not even as good as this kid who's been
you know, sitting on this forever. This kid's like twenty
twenty one whatever he is now, but you know he's
(04:13):
been sitting on these songs for a couple of years.
That's better than the Harry Styles record to me as
of right now, Like I say, I'll maybe I'll listen
to it more and I'll get to it. But then again,
maybe I won't. There was nothing about it that made
me go, oh God, I got to get back to that.
Maybe there's something here, maybe there's something that's interesting that'll
catch my ear. I didn't get that. So it is
(04:33):
what it is. It's just okay for me right now.
But I guess I could change my mind, but I
doubt I will. As for him on SNL, I thought,
you know, he was fine. He was the kid that
does the Sebastian Maniscalco Marcello Hernandez. You've heard me talk
about him, and I think maybe the first week that
I saw him, I said he was going to be
a big star, and boys, he becoming a big star.
(04:55):
His impression of him in the courtroom where he decides
to become a night attorney as Sebastian Maniscalco or however
you pronounce his name, is just nothing short of genius.
That guy is so talented. He's going to be one
of the biggest stars on the planet. He's fun to
listen to, he's fun to watch. He seems like a
good guy. I like that he has like a regular
(05:17):
kind of girlfriend that's not a celebrity. Everybody was trying
to pit him with the Sabrina Carpenter. He's like, no, no, no,
my girl is great. She's brilliant. And I just love him.
I think the kid is just such a massive star.
And you know, Harry styles against him in the lawyer scene.
You know, Harry didn't do much with it. Harry was fine.
It wasn't anything that blew my hair back. He's very
(05:38):
good looking. I'll give him that. He's good looking. Yeah,
he saw a few of those segments and it was
pretty good. All right on to the Oscars. I don't
even know where to start with the Oscars. I guess
I'll start with the best film One Battle after another.
I think I told you last week on the Patreon
that that was my favorite, and I predicted that to
win a lot of people thought Sinners would win. Either
(05:59):
one wins. Happy. I liked both movies. I didn't see
the rest of the movies. None of them looked at
that interesting to me. I mean, even watching the people
go up and accept their awards and seeing clips of
some of these films, like that Ping Pong film. You
couldn't pay me to watch that fucking film, Like, there's
no way I would watch that. It looks terrible. One
Battle after another. I found to be wildly imaginative. When
(06:21):
I watched I remember thinking for the first hour, what
the fuck is going on here? Like where are we going?
It all does come together. Sean Penn is brilliant in it.
He did win last night. I told you he would
win last night for that. He was absolutely funny as fuck,
unintentionally funny. I think the whole cast was. I mean,
it's it shouldn't be built as a comedy, but there's
some definite funny moments. One of my favorite Leo performances ever.
(06:45):
But he's just great in everything. Watching him act is
just such a joy for anyone because this guy is
so different in every single film that he's in, Like
you never once say, hey, I've seen that person before,
and he really just keeps recreating himself. It really is
impressive of you know what a great actor he is.
Didn't win Best Actor last night. That went to Michael B. Jordan,
(07:08):
whom I loved. Sinners as a popcorn film, I thought
it was just a really it was a good film.
It was solid. If that's one of the best films
of the year, fine, I just told you what I
thought of the other films just by watching clips. There's
not a lot of great film being made anymore. Come
at me if you want. Timothy Shallow, may me if
you will. It's not a lot of great art. But
Michael B. Jordan was fine in that movie. Does it
(07:31):
matter who wins? Is it very political? Absolucolutely, without question,
it's completely political. They're out there campaigning for the awards
and this and that. They want to win these and
these people pretending like they don't. It's funny. But they
had the guy with the nose, the piano guy, whatever
his name is. He won last year for Best Actor.
I didn't fucking even see that movie, and not if
(07:52):
I even once wondered what the hell the movie was.
So does it mean anything? No, do I enjoy watching
Michael B. Jordan one hundred percent. He's just he's charismatic,
he's got it. I did see after that he went
to in and out. That's become the new thing to do.
You win a big oscar, you go to in and out.
There's a bunch of people in there with cameras. I
(08:13):
don't think you ever even eat. You just sit down
in the booth for a second. They rush you out
of there, and you got your photo op. Once again,
everything is staged, and you know that doesn't shock me.
As for Timothy Schallo May, he took a little bit
of heat last night. There's two things. The monologue with
Conan O'Brien, brilliant joke by the way saying there's all
(08:33):
these protests and had to do with people from the
opera and dancers or whatever that he said, and at
the end he's like, you know, jazz was pissed that
they weren't mentioned. There's something to that effect, but did
everything with the wink. Timothy shallow May sat there and
laughed his way through it, which you know I would
expect him to do. I never thought the whole calling
(08:54):
out of ballet and opera or whatever is boring. I
wasn't ever really offended by it. And I will say this,
this town is petty as fuck. And if you're asking,
do I think that some will hold a grudge for
him and his future in this town because of those statements,
I don't think there's any way around it. I think
(09:16):
it's already started. I think this town has been lining
up just to give him awards. There's a nit person
all the time. He's been the person I think that
ended last night. I think the whole, like Timothy Shallomey
and slobbering over him and everything that he does is over.
I think that the descent downhill has now started, which
is fine for any actor, by the way, because you
(09:39):
could look at a Travolta as big as he was
in the late seventies early eighties and then just kind
of went away, and then you know, got this role
in pulp fiction and all of a sudden, Travolta was back.
You have ups and downs in your career. I saw
George Clooney talking about it a little bit an interview
over the weekend. He was talking about when you look
at George Clooney and his downs, I mean, come on,
(09:59):
he doesn't really have a lot of downs. But he
was never part of a huge franchise, a tent pole
outside of Ocean's eleven that put him in one box
and just labeled him as one thing so he could
go out there and do oh Brother w art Thal
or whatever. It was a different project that he was
a vanity project. But he talked about that. But Timothy
(10:20):
Schallome is now experiencing his first hiccup, his first speed
bump in the road, I think it's gonna stick, and
I think it's gonna stick for a while. Now, does
he probably have another film that he's already making, or
maybe two in production, or something that he's booked for
the next couple of years. Maybe, probably, I would guess.
(10:43):
I doubt that that guy's been sitting by the phone
waiting for it to ring. But I think he will
become cold product very quickly. And I know that seems
like a lot to say, but I truly believe, because
how petty this fucking town can be, and how you
have to have the downs with the am I saying
that he'll never act again or he'll never be taken
(11:04):
seriously again, No, I'm not saying that everybody forgets because,
like I said, it was a joke he told and
it wasn't that big of a deal. But trust me,
people noticed, they took note, noted, and I think Hollywood
will act accordingly after all of that. So much where
I was watching something that came up on my TikTok
feed last night, these two young ladies, and it was
(11:26):
check Mark and it had something to do with E
but it wasn't like E television. I'm not even sure
the association has to do with that. He's still a thing,
I think, but I don't even know if it's the
two are associated. They must be because these people at
least had credentials to be on the carpet. And one
of the young ladies, I mean, what a great eye
(11:46):
to catch this. They had a camera on the red carpet.
Walking down the carpet was Timothy Shallome and he was
two feet away from Steven Spielberg. Okay, and Steven Spielberg
spoke out against Timothy Shallow May this week, and you
could tell Timmy Lake in his peripheral caught Steven Spielberg.
(12:09):
And you could really tell that Timothy Shallows people were
majorly paying attention because they gave him the hook and
they sent him in a completely different direction on the
carpet just like that. And those two ladies, I don't
know who you are, but I see you. I saw that,
and they caught it, and that was you know, I
don't know if it's something that's caught on online yet
(12:31):
because I've only seen it once, and I got a
feeling you're going to see it a couple of more times.
But his people steer clear of Steven Spielberg, and there's
you know, as great as Timothy Schallo may may be
in the moment, no one in this town is bigger
than Steven Spielberg. And like I said, when he goes
out and says and slights an actor who did something
(12:52):
he feels it's inappropriate, that tells me you're about to
become cold product. So he's won every award up until
last night for this award season, almost every award for
that stupid Ping Pong movie, which tells me he must
have been good in it looks like a fucking awful
movie to me. But he didn't win last night, and
the cold shoulder has begun a bit. It's funny how
(13:16):
these little podcasts where you sit down you have these
you know, these innocent conversations. It's while I'll never I
would love to be an actor, and I would love
for somebody to put me in something, But somebody would
go digging through all this stuff and find where I
said somebody sucked in something, and that would be the
end of me. But it is funny that these podcasts,
they have a lot of weight, and it's usually completely
(13:37):
taken out of context. Always as a matter of fact.
It's usually just a little clip, some innocuous statement that
you make, and it ends up biting you in the ass.
Because I've said this before, this free speaking and this
speaking your mind, it will come back to bite you.
And you have to be careful. You have to be
(13:58):
a very thought speaker when you're in the public eye.
You know, he's great at it, Obama. You'll watch Obama talk.
He will talk like it'll take a second because he's
choosing his words, he's choosing his phrasing, because he's always
constantly aware of the spin and how things can be
(14:19):
taken out of context. And it's funny watching somebody that's
really great at it to it. And then when you
get young actors or people that aren't professional speakers, that
haven't spent their life behind a microphone understanding the consequences
of what you can say and how it can hurt
your career, it's wild seeing it happen to people, and
you're seeing it happen to Timmy Shallabey right now, it's happening.
(14:42):
Maybe I'm wrong. I'm usually not wrong about these kinds
of things. But the whole Spielberg of the Red Carpet
last night, and that whole like getting those two away
from one another. It said the world to me. It
just said everything. So yeah, there's my two cents on that.
Conan O'Brien, I think, you know, I think he's made
for shows like this. I think the people like him.
(15:04):
I think Oscar watchers like him. He's in the club
with them. They all go to the parties together at
one another's houses and such, and he's in the mix.
And I think he's perfect for it. He's funny, he
is never small in any moment. He's made to be
out there to do it. I think he did like
a tremendous job. I noticed a couple of people that
(15:26):
weren't in the in memoriam Eric Dane, I guess wasn't
in it. I don't know if he was a movie actor.
I don't know if i'd put him there. Was he
I mean, I know he's been in some shows, but
I would expect him to be on the Golden Globes
or something that celebrates TV. But he wasn't included. Nor
was James Vanderbeek. Now, James Vanderbeek was in film, I
(15:48):
mean he was in Varsity Blues. He wasn't quite a
few films so for him to get a snub was
kind of odd. I thought. Also Gene Hackman, I think
I'd read that he wasn't mentioned, But I kind of
feel like Gene Hackman's death has been over a year.
Perez is better on the dates at this stuff than me.
But yeah, I don't know. I mean, look, I don't
know who's in charge of that, or like who's keeping
(16:11):
tally all year long, or if it's just a simple
Google search and somebody fucks it up, the person's dead.
Their whole life, they've been slabbed over. So what they
were missed in an in Memoria, big fucking deal. There's
bigger problems in the world. Gas is fucking I filled
out my car the other day. It was like one
hundred and ten dollars. I'm like, oh, that's great. That's
a big problem. Yeah, you know, people not being mentioned
(16:31):
or butt hurt because someone that was in the business
wasn't mentioned in some stupid fucking segment on the oscars.
There's bigger problems to be had. What else I'm trying
to think if there was anything else from the Award
Show last night that I thought was great. I did
like the moment with Anne Hathaway and what's her face?
The Devil War's product who it's based off. And I
(16:52):
went to their little moment on stage and I thought
that was cute. I walked into the room when that
was on, so I enjoy that moment. There was a tie,
which I thought was kind of interesting. Kellen was here.
I think she told us who the best actress would be.
I guess she nailed that. But all in all, it's
the Oscars. I think it'll do okay in the ratings.
(17:12):
I think the people that like it like it, and
the people that don't. You know, you don't have to
watch unless your TV has one fucking channel on it.
I don't know why anybody would complain. I'm not really
a big awards show person. I think these people get
enough awards in fucking life for just being famous. I
don't think they need a whole season to be fucking celebrated.
But nobody celebrating me for anything, so maybe I'm just jealous.
(17:34):
What else is there? It's about to add something truth
be told. Last night I watched the World Baseball Classic.
It was being billed as one of the greatest games
ever played. The United States versus the Dominican Republic US
won the game behind the masterful pitching of Pittsburgh Pirates,
Great Paul Schemes and the Dominican I guess a lot
of people I see it online this morning. Everybody's crying
(17:57):
because the strike zone and the last pitch wasn't a strikeout.
And to that, I'll just I know this is not
a sports podcast, but I'll just say this. You had
twenty six other outs to score a run and you didn't.
You scored one home run. Out of that murderer's row
of Manny Machado and Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis, you
scored one run. Pipe down, USA. Whooped your ass. Okay,
(18:23):
there's a bunch of bad calls last night. These umpires stink,
But enough whining. So we'll see if my Italians tonight,
if they can beat who did they play? Italy plays.
It's not Puerto Rico. It's not Cuba. I can't think
of who it is. It's not Mexico. It's a Latin
American country. Anyhow, we'll find out who who wins that
tonight to face America in the finals. This is something
(18:45):
that's like a It wasn't supposed to be like that
big of a deal. But for guys, it's kind of
turned into a big deal. I'd be willing to say
that maybe five million people watched this last night. But
then again, they put it on FS one. It's been
on Fox every night on the main fucking fog. Why
and the fuck wouldn't they put that on Fox? What's
so important on Fox? Against the oscars? Two back to
(19:06):
back episodes a Family Guy? They couldn't fucking take a
week off from Family Guy week week? All right? Perez
back hopefully Thursday for our Patreon show. If you're not
a subscriber there, get on it Patreon dot com slash
Perez Hilton. It's just an extra show a week. We
go a little deeper into a lot of different topics.
(19:27):
There's an app that goes along with your membership. There's
a message board on the app. We have a lot
of conversation back and forth there. There's also a video
feed of the show. It appears in your podcast feed,
just like this show does. It's just an extra five
bucks a month, and it's awesome. It's just a really
great show. We've got an awesome community of people there
(19:47):
and we would love it if you joined us there,
and hopefully we'll be back together with Perez, hopefully Thursday
for the Patreon show. If not, I would imagine by
next week. But Perez will explain all of that when
we get back together next time. Let me throw something
at you that maybe you've never heard before. If you're
not a Patriot on Subscribe, or maybe you are and
(20:08):
you just forgot we did this, We'll give you one
of the best of segments from the past on Patreon replay.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
There's a good crossover here between reality TV news and
early two thousands nostalgia with Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton's aunt
is a reality TV star, Kyle Richards from the Real
Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
I didn't know that because you're out of the loop.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
She's married to Maudisio Umansky. That's Kyle's husband.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
No, I know who these people are. I just didn't
know they were related.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Oh okay, well now you know. There you go. Kyle's
married to Maudisio. He's got a reality show of his own,
Buying Beverly Hills on Netflix. And there was this clip
that went viral on social media this week where Maudisio
talked about his past working with Paris's father, his stepbrother, no,
not stepbrother, his brother in law who owns Hilton and Highland,
(21:03):
a big real estate company. Maudisio said the following quote.
I think I kind of got fucked by Hilton and Highland.
And when I say fucked, you know, like today I'm happy.
But there were one hundred agents at Hilton and Highland.
They did one billion for their first time a year,
and I was nineteen point six percent of their production.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
That's a fifth.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
He brought in about two hundred million dollars, and he
went to his brother in law and asked to be
made partner. He wanted equity, which seems reasonable to me.
If there are one hundred people working there and you're
responsible for twenty percent of everything.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Good for you. You did your job, you got your commission.
I don't know if he got.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Fucked, I would say he did. I think it was
a very well listen, it was a very reasonable ask.
You're not going to get the promotion if you don't
ask for it.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
I don't know if it's a fucking is all that
I'm saying. It sounds like he said, no, all right,
if you sign a bad deal, it's not on the
other people that you signed a bad deal. You gotta
build windows for yourself. So I don't know, fuck is
a strong word.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Well, he goes on to say that after being told
no by his brother in law, Rick Hilton, he goes
to Kyle and says, I went home and I talked
to Kyle. I go, this is really going to cause
a lot of stress between you and your sister and
your family, and I don't want to do this move
of leaving and starting a company if you're not comfortable.
She was one hundred percent supportive. So he quit and
(22:29):
he started the agency and that's become very successful.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Then he ended that clip by saying, I think Hilton
and Hyland is an amazing company and I would never
be caught dead speaking poorly about them because I don't
think poorly about them, and I am Rick's brother in law.
But unfortunately it got sour because it really affected the family,
Kyle more than anybody. You know. Her family stopped speaking
(22:56):
to her. So this Bravo account that post just brought
content shared that on Instagram. Paris Hilton saw it and
she left the saltiest comment. This is what she wrote, quote,
my father is a consummate gentleman and has always taken
the higher road. He would never speak negatively about his family,
(23:19):
especially in the press. Frankly, we are all thick of
him using the Hilton name every chance he gets to
plug his lame show. It is enough already.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
I like how she contradicts the opening statement about how
her dad's classy, but I'm not here.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
I go seriously, like, shouldn't you take your dad's own
advice and like not take the higher road?
Speaker 1 (23:43):
You literally wrote it in a sentence. You wrote that
my dad's classy, next sentence, I am not.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
No, it's like giving me major mean girls vibes.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
And the thing is, look, she's in the same game
he is.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Yes, she's a reality TV.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
And he Harley did something into something that's working very
well and has made something on his own. And look,
he came from that world and that name, and you
have all the right to do this.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Yes, it's his story. It actually happened.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
You're right, it's his story. Best way to put.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
It so, as he alluded to, after he decided to quit,
when he was told no, we're not going to make
you partner, he and his family were like iced out Kathy,
Hilton and Rick and everybody stopped talking to them.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Look, he's in the wrong. You don't go out and say, quote,
I got fucked. You didn't get fucked. You sign a
bad deal and you're blaming it on them.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
It's not about a bad deal.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
No, no, no, But that's with the impetus of all this.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
He asked for to be made a partner or basically
a promotion.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Right exactly, and they said no, which they have the
right to do. But when you go out and speak
on it, no, that's where you're right.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
You're not understanding me. He's talking about shit that happened
years ago.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Doesn't matter, it's all the same story.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
But you're not answering my question. Years ago, before this
was made publica and Rick and the family stopped talking
to Kyle and Maudisio after he quit after he was
told no, you're not getting a promotion. Do you think
that was an appropriate response for Kathy and Rick Hilton.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
No, they're family. They shouldn't ice somebody out because they
made a business decision for themselves. But two wrongs don't
make a right. Him going out and saying I got
fucked after the fact that I know it's after the fact.
Also doesn't make this right. Nobody's taking the elder Hilton's
advice shut your traps. None of them did that, none
of them. So they're all in the wrong.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
They're all reality TV stars.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
The dad isn't right. The dad's not like plugged into
any show or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
I'm sure he makes appearances on Paris's show.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Yeah, like that counts. And I'm talking back in the
day anyhow. I'm talking about his bread wasn't buttered with
reality TV. His bread was buttered with daddy's or grandfather's name.
You know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
But Maudisio did not say a single negative thing about Okay, fine,
I got he got screwed over in his mind. But
then he said, also on the same I think they're
an amazing company.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
Look, I think he caught himself. I think he caught
himself and realized I just said something shitty and I
better try to correct this, and he fucked up.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
He didn't fuck up. I disagree. What do you all think?
Let us know your thoughts?
Speaker 1 (26:15):
