The San Francisco 49ers are BACK! Richard Sherman breaks down the 49ers’ huge win over the Atlanta Falcons — a performance that felt straight out of their Super Bowl run. Christian McCaffrey went off for 201 total yards and 2 TDs, while backup QB Mac Jones kept the Niners rolling, improving to 4-1 as a starter. Sherman dives into the offensive line dominance, the defense’s bounce-back game, and why Kyle Shanahan deserves massive credit for keeping this injury-hit team at 5-2. Sherm also reacts to the clutch play of Eddy Piñeiro (17-for-17 on FGs), how the defense locked up Bijan Robinson, and why Niner fans need to appreciate this team’s resilience. Plus, what’s next for San Francisco as they face the Texans next week? 🔥

Speaker 1 (00:00):
But if you're trying to say that any bit of
his seat or the cloth on his seat is even
remotely warm, you have lost your mind. Welcome back to
the Richard Sherman Podcast. What a night for the San

(00:20):
Francisco forty nine ers. This was reminiscent of the twenty
twenty three Super Bowl run. Christian McCaffrey doing it all.
Two hundred and one total yards, two touchdowns, twenty four
carries for one hundred and twenty nine yards. The offensive
line was opening up gaps, he was hitting them, making guys.
Miss had seven catches for seventy two yards, including a

(00:43):
clutch one on the last drive for the go ahead score.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
What an incredible game for him. Another win for mac
Jones who, Mac Joe who, Mac Jones who. Mac Jones
four and one as a starter.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
He was four and fourteen previously the previous I think
two years, last two seasons. But what a great game
to bring George Kittle back. He didn't have a tremendous
impact in terms of the stats sheet, but he obviously
had a huge impact on the run game. Jake Brindle
gets injured in the game and Hennessy comes in and

(01:19):
plays a really solid game. I thought, you know, there's
gonna be a lot of issue with Connor coleby pulling
Christian McCaffrey an end zone, Like, don't try to make
that the storyline of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
They played a freaking phenomenal game offensively.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
I don't know if you know, you got to give
this Atlanta Falcons team credit. They just beat the Buffalo Bills.
So we're not gonna sit here and act like the
Atlanta Falcons are just a walkover or easy out for anybody.
They just beat the Buffalo Bills twenty four to fourteen
last week.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
They played a really good game that week, and and
they ran.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Against ran up against the San Francisco forty nine ers
team that's well coached and prepared to do what they
need to do, playing some inspired defense.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
But Thune played well. I thought.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
I thought Diamadoor Leonor played well. That was a BSP
I call on him earlier. I don't know what was
going on with PI today. I really don't. These these
referees were getting out of hand. It's hard enough to
play defense in this league, and and for them to
call pis on plays where the defenders are clearly attacking
the football. There's gonna be some hand fighting in every play.

(02:27):
But if if if you called it on the defender,
then you could call it OPI in the same play.
But they don't call it very often. There's many plays
where where receivers grabbing a dB and trying to prevent
him from picking picking the ball off, and it was
happening on that play with Diamodoor Leonor, but they didn't
call it. I thought Lucas played a solid game in

(02:49):
the slot at the nickel. Uh. Once Ronaldo Green went out,
I know there was some some question marks. Uh, Looter
played well, you know, it's a battle out there. I
know everybody's like, oh, he gave up. It's hard out
there playing corner. It's tough, it's a groad. That's why
We'renardo Green as the starter. But I thought, you know,
they came out and battled. You know, they were under

(03:09):
man I thought Bryce Hoff made a huge play. I
thought sam O made a huge play those two sacks
in the game. Bryce Hoff created a turnover in the game.
I thought guys tackled well. This is one of the
best backs in the National Football League. He's been averaging
one hundred and sixty five all purpose yards a game
on pace to break an NFL record, and I thought

(03:30):
they held him in check throughout the game. They got
to Pinix, especially late in the game. They were hitting
him play in and play out. And that's all you
can ask for. Man. I know the standard is so
high for this defense, so high for this team, but
you got to appreciate when young guys are coming in
there and Edge's playing hard, they're playing fast, they're tackling aggressively.

(03:51):
I saw Mustafa coming there and a couple of times
and lay lay physical hits on the running backs, and
I tell you what they feel those as the game progresses.
I thought Mikael Williams played really well. Alfred Collins got
some hits on the quarterback, created some pressure. It's not
always the things you see on the stat sheet. Sometimes

(04:11):
it's the things you don't see. But another guy that
needs a lot of praise, and I don't think we've
been giving him enough attention and enough praise. Eddie den
Narrow did it again now seventeen of seventeen in the game,
kept the forty nine ers in it, hit another fifty
I think it was his fifth fifty plus yard kick

(04:32):
in the game.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Andie's just a breath of fresh air into this team.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
And you see Jake Moody in Chicago doing well, wish
him the best, good for him, happy, Happy for Jake.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Move.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Everybody giving up for Jake moved. Good for him. Sometimes
you just need a fresh start, like some of these
quarterbacks do. But we needed a fresh start too. The
Tan Francisco forty nine ers need a fresh guard and
they got it. They got a fresh start and Eddie
de Naarrow doing his thing. But let's you know what
I mean, We're not trying to You know, I'm superstitious
right now, this kind of season.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
You know I'm knocking on one. I'm wave in the sage.
I'm you know, I'm not I'm not splitting poles. I'm not.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
I'm not taking any risks because you can't, you can't
write down need all the help you could get. But
five and two right now are the San Francisco forty
nine ers. And if you told me before the season
that the injuries that they have sustained throughout the season,
they'd be missing Rock Purdy for five games, they'd be

(05:31):
missing Fred Warner for the season, they'd be missing they'd
be missing all pro Nicholas John posta former Defensive Player
of the Year. I'd say, yeah, this is gonna be
a rough year, this is gonna be a rough year.
But it hasn't mattered.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
It has not mattered because of Kyle Shanahan.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
You saw that. Frank Gore said something this week that
because sometimes fans just get spoiled. And I'm sorry you guys,
sometimes as you get spoiled. If you were calling for
anything other than Kyle Shanahan's doing a great job and
he needs to continue.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
If you're saying anything other than that, you're wrong.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Not that you can't criticize their head coach, and not yet,
you can't criticize an organization.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Say you can do this better, you could do this better,
Why don't you change this? Or you got every right
in the world to do that.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
But if you're trying to say that any bit of
his seat or the cloth on his seat is even
remotely warm, you.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Have lost your mind.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
That's the coolest seat in the NFL right now, next
to Addy Reids, and it should be. This man is
taking his team to multiple Super Bowls, overcome tons of injuries.
People remember the twenty nineteen season, so rosy and so good,
But forget that we lost both of our tackles for
a substantial amount of time during that season. That's why
they were trying to trade for Trent Williams and then

(06:54):
we traded for Emmanuel Sanders.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
But there were injuries in that season. We lost got
throughout the year.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
But we just kept battling and kept battling and kept batling,
and they kept coaching their tails off. Sala coach his
tail off, Kyle coached his tail off, the floor coached
his tail off, McDaniel coach his tail off.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
But I think you gotta sometimes take a step back.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
And although the standards high, and although you expect your
expectations are high each and every year, even when there's
ninety something million of dead money, and this was supposed
to be a down year, supposed to be a rebuild year,
kind of figure the cap situation out. But no, they
don't accept that. They think, hey, we drafted well enough,

(07:35):
we got good enough players, and we're gonna still get
it done, and for the most part gotten it done.
I thought they had a chance to win last week. Unfortunately,
you know, all the bounces don't go your way. It's
tough to beat Baker Mayfield right now, Baker Mayfield, they
had him on third and fourteen. He made an MVP
type play to get his team going, and they found

(07:55):
a way to win that game. You give them all
the credit in the world. But that shows again, San
Francisco forty nine ers, despite missing your fifty million dollar quarterback,
it's a fight. Missing you're all pro tied end, you're
all pro middle linebacker, you're all prod in. You could
still find ways to win in this league. And that's
what they did. They won convincingly tonight to double digit win.

(08:17):
And that's that's really cool to see. I think they
might have a chance to get back in my power rankings.
It's a weird league right now. Some teams winning, some
teams losing that you're not expecting to. But it's really
cool to see the way they just keep persevering, keep
finding away. The scheme, the run game that Kyle Shanahan
drew up tonight was totally different than what they usually running.

(08:40):
You could hear it on the you could hear Chris
Collinsworth on the broadcast talk about it, like Kyle so
used to this inside and outside zone, mid zone, lide zone, and.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Today they change it up.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
They ran a little bit of power, they ran a
little bit of lead, they ran a little bit of everything.
Whatever worked for him, that's what they were running. And
that's the way the team continues to be great. And
Kyle such a great play caller because he's starting to
adapt to what the team needs. You got to adapt
to the team in front of you, and that's what
he's doing and that's why his team continues to have success.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
They're five and two now.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Mac Jones earned his four hundred K incentive by winning
four games for the San Francisco forty nine ers as
a starting quarterback, and he deserves every penny, deserves every penny.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Winn, strike the check.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Send him the check down because a backup quarterback coming
in and winning you four games and almost winning you
a fit, he deserves every bit of that. He deserves
every bit of that. They held b Jon Robinson to
fourteen yards. I mean, fourteen carries for forty yards. Come on, now,
it don't get no better than that. And again, now

(09:48):
you look at the NFC West rankings and San Francisco
forty nine ers are up top at five and two
with wins over the Rams and Seahawks. So they're all
tied at at well two losses, but obviously the Seahawks
have to play them all night. But they got the
tie breaker over them, which I still thought was gonna
go different. But whatever, it's, it's they're at the top

(10:08):
of the division. They're feeling good, they're they're battling, and
I think the fans should be happy. I think you
should be uh excited about these young guys, these young players,
this young d line, these young linebackers, d winters. But
through stepping up in a big way, uh and making
plays happen. They obviously got a tough game next week

(10:31):
against the Houston Texans, but you'll cross that bridge when
you get there. I think they got a chance to
win that game, just like they had a chance to
win this game. And if you look at the schedule
coming up, they got after the Texans, they got the Giants,
another game that that could potentially be a winnable game.
They play the Rams, you know, always at the good
divisional battle, the Cardinals, the Panthers. This season, its season

(10:55):
is starting to shape itself and and I'm sure Kyle
Shanahan and the rest of the staff are except but
they're working hard this is fun. You gotta enjoy this.
You gotta enjoy this. Not every team, not every fan base,
gets to enjoy wins like this.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
This is a huge win for this team in prime time.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Mac Jones doing it again, he continue to everybody playing
a return on the Mac. I kind of like that,
But I like who Mac Jones because his name is
actually Michael. Now no, I don't really want to get
to his middle name because it's not as cool as
Nicholas John Bolsa.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
It's mccorkyl. I think. So, you know, we're just gonna
we're just gonna keep it cool with mac Jones. Mac
Jones much cool, cooler than Michael mccorkyle Jones.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
That's that's okay too, But man, mac Jones, we don't
go with mac Jones as always. Be prepared for next week.
Enjoy this win tonight, faithful. I know you're excited, I
know you're happy. Appreciate this. It isn't always like this.
It don't always go like this, and when it does,
you should enjoy. Appreciate you. I know you could be
anywhere in the world, but you're here with me, and

(11:54):
I sure do appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
We'll see you next stop thie
