How's everybody?
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Every boy?
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Good bye? Good looking, good man? Feeling good? Rank you?
So the a couple of items here on the on
the table right out of the gate. So it's going
to be uh an active week. So you know, sometimes
when you when your things are being asked and you
(02:38):
you're committing to them, you don't know, it never fails.
I've tried over the years to keep things from piling
up on top of each other, and I just can't
seem to pull it off, because you know, people want
to do things when they want to do things, which
means there's times of the year that are very popular
for certain things. As I've said many times, and I love, love,
love all that we do and the wonderful Uh. It's
(03:02):
not something we have to do, it's something we get
to do in participating in in men's ministry, you know,
with the Maanchurch dot Com which launched you know, now
this is the the fifth year of that are our
fifth anniversary is coming up in March. But so we
have a lot this week because this month is very
sought after by this the strategy of Men's ministry. Because
(03:25):
deer season has ended, football has ended, Turkey season in baseball,
and spring sports have not started yet. Okay, Now for
some of the folks, you know, like when your son's
playing college, for some reason, they start college baseball in January.
None of us know why. But but anyway, so I
just don't think of, you know, the boys of winter.
Here come the boys of winter. We literally, we literally
(03:47):
call baseball players the boys of summer.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
But anyway, so this week is uh, hey, it's active.
It's gonna be active the next two weeks. And it's
been an active month. So Lord Willing, I'm going to
South Carolina on Thursday night. Uh and I've got updates
on that for those of you. They said that they
are almost sold out, but there are still some tickets available.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
And so if you want to get those, you go
to Burgess Ministries dot com and the link is there.
So that's in Lexington, South Carolina, North Side Baptist Church.
Then I will come back here and do the show
Friday morning, and then we will as far as Adler
cannot go this weekend, but Speedy, Greg and I and
the rest of the team on Team Man Church will
(04:34):
head to Panama City for Friday night and half a
day Saturday Men's conference. So that's gonna be that's gonna
be a little turnaround.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Yeah. Now take the day Friday.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
So anyway, now it's it's you know that you know
what we talk about all the time, and I'm not
talking about sickness, but I'm just talking about other things
that we're committed to. And I think I told you
all this a long time ago. So now and if
I'm in that position, I try to live that out
to you know. It's a it's a concept of you know,
not asking other people do anything you're not willing to do.
But but anyway, something we learned from Dad Grey. But anyway,
(05:07):
so I remember the time that I went into my
boss and started telling about all the other things I
committed to in my personal life, and he looked at
me and said, that's not my problem. What I need
you is when you're here to do your job, and
you know that the things the things you do away
from here, that's that's hey, that's on you. You created
all that, you know. So so yeah, my, my, what
(05:28):
I pay you for, I just want you to do? Yeah,
call me great? Right, so h so yeah, you know
it's it's uh, I'm the one that that agreed to
this stuff. So I can't make y'all carry that load,
you know what I mean? So I will. And there's
been many y'all know this, y'all been with me for
a lot of years. I can't recall a time that
(05:49):
that I missed the show because I was speaking somewhere,
you know, And and and it got back a little
late and I want a little more sleep. So so anyway,
so the I can't put that on you. I have
responsibilities here. I remember that. I told you the time
that Bones, who's our road manager, was planning out one
of these. It was in twenty twenty one, the year
that the schedule almost killed me because we were trying
(06:09):
to make up the pandemic and what was already on
the books. Yeah, and I will never forget it. He goes, well,
I don't understand. He goes, You're in Florida Sunday night, right,
and then you got to be in Texas in destin Monday,
and then in Texas Monday night. Why don't we just
go on from Florida to Texas? And I said, you
ever you ever heard the show? I said, yeah, yeah,
(06:31):
you ever heard of my day job? So so what
happens did on what happens did on Monday. He goes,
you know what, I completely forgot about that, and so
so anyway, that but you know, that's that's the way
I look forward to it. I fact they'll be fun,
and I will tell you looking in Panama City and
I'm going to watch you too this week because I'm
doing room assignments. And right now have you and Greg
rooming together by watch it? And so y'all gonna be
(06:54):
room doggies and so right and again yeah right, So
I don't know, but if I but Greg, I'm gonna
trade just like remember your parents. Now, if y'all cain't
that right, let.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Me ask you that the rowdiest room.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yeah, I was watching some of these texts last night.
Somebody took a shot at me. I gave you my lanyard. Remember,
at the end of the last time, you were supposed
to go turn them in last you didn't. We had
this discussion this is not good fom before we left
Rick Squinton, and then you were like either going to
turn them back in and they were gonna give them
back to us. But up there at the yes because
we were like do I keep the land? You know,
give them to me?
Speaker 4 (07:27):
And I gave my this is the all access lanyards
that we had.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Yeah, I don't know the church, I thank you. I
thought I thought we turned them in. I didn't take
any of those home with me. Here we go, so
I think much we need know what I'm talking sounds
so much better. I don't think I think that the
people who gave them to us, Aron, he'll less than
his bunch. I think we gave them all back to
I know I gave him mind to you.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
Yeah, but then if you gave them back to Less,
then why did Less say yet last night?
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Greg, I hope you kept up with your Why would
he see? Why would he say I'm gonna get I?
I think I think Less actually has them and these
things he didn't have them. I think because because I
don't know, because I don't even know where mine is.
This is so, do you have your spinning?
Speaker 7 (08:11):
Yeah, yeah, we we kept them because the whole turn
in thing, I think is a fignament of the Burgess
brother's imagination.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Right, this is kind of what they do. I'm sorry
they create enough like pandomrim and confusion where nobody knows
what happened. Literally, I remember giving them to you and
you were like gathering on the landfill.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Now, because you know, you know what the odds of
that probably are that they I'll tell where they are.
They're probably in the green room at Gardendale and now
somebody's got them.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Why would y'all even take them off before you leave?
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I don't remember?
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Why not just wear them to the.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yeah? Yeah, I don't. I don't remember that. It seems
like that if I was taking them up, then I
would have turned them all in.
Speaker 8 (08:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (08:50):
You may have it said all access on it and
then it's had all three date all three places.
Speaker 9 (08:55):
It was a multi use lanyard.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah, I mean, very easy. Just took in my truck,
dropped that. Yeah, and that's what I'm wanted to turn
them in. I'm gonna I'm gonna look in my truck
and see if they're there. But I don't. I don't.
Usually what I do is they're gonna let you in.
Maybe I'll just get out of you. Yeah, yeah, let's
do this grade you get adlers today. Okay, if he's
got it, and then I'll worry about mine. But but
(09:18):
what I think, because I think I'm good. But the
other part, though, is that normally I do what you're
talking about. I just go and hang it on my mirror.
Some reason we had this idea we were supposed to
turn them in.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
I remember the commerce less Bradford does not have them. Okay,
I don't remember what happened to him. I really don't so,
but see, y'all are the two that had them. So
you had to remember.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
I gave mine to him. I do remember let me
tell you something you you could tell me right now
that aliens came down, and do I remember us getting
on the spaceship walking around a little bit. That's how
much I remember. It hit me when the text and
I was like, how about this. I'm a little shot
you remember.
Speaker 10 (09:55):
Neither one of us.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
I didn't. I'm so sorry. Last less, Greg's gonna get
adlers and I'll see if I can find them somewhere.
Speaker 8 (10:06):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
All right, So this is probably I get probably more
response every time I do this commercial because I know
so many of us, so many of us have been
through this, and that is when either you you know
or someone you love begins to lose their hearing. What
do we run into, Well, we run into the fact
that you want to help them because you're losing them
(10:37):
in the family. They can't participate in conversations anymore. I
remember when Dad went through this. You know, we started
kind of losing access to him and his hilarious you know,
contributions to conversation when he got to where he couldn't
hear what we were talking about. But then you start
going all right, I'd love to get some hearing aide
for my loved one or for yourself. And you go
(10:59):
to clinic and the clinics. Look, they're wonderful people, but boy,
their prices are crazy, and you think, well, gosh, I mean,
I want to be able to hear, and I want
my loved one to be able to hear, but I
can't afford these things. Well, this is great news today.
I'm now pointing you to MD Hearing, either again or
for the first time, and they have cut their price
in half despite all the other inflation that we're still
(11:23):
trying to get on top of. And MD Hearing makes

shop md hearing dot com promo code Rick. Yes you
(12:30):
can afford hearing aids.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
All right.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
So also over the weekend, Over the weekend, we had
the Daytona five hundred and so President Trump was there
for the Daytona five hundred, and you know, we talked
about that a little bit last week before we headed
into the weekend. So the winner of the Daytona five
hundred is a repeat.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Right, Yeah, he won last year.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
We'll Byron will Will Barron, William.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Barrn Well Will. It was buddies call him Will.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
So I don't I'm not familiar with him other than
there was that great netflick Netflix series.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
What was it called.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Speed or something. You're just throwing speed out there for speed, Yeah,
that was it.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
F one.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Yeah, But anyway, fast and the furious. Yeah, but that
was not it. But anyway, that's when I became because
a lot of these younger drivers I don't even know,
and and I know that Daytona five hundred. It was
two really young guys come into the wire there, but
it got.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Delayed right there was between the weather and yellow flags
and all this guy. I think with one lap left
there was another wreck. So this one went into overtime
laps and uh, I think on the final lap in
overtime I counted there were two wrecks and they just
kept it green. Yeah, and guys were wrecking all behind them,
just dust and guys spinning everywhere.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
There's lap, somebody on the top.
Speaker 9 (14:00):
Catching somebody.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Yeah, I thought Hamlin might hold on him way, but
he got caught up in that wreck at the end.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
And that one there was with the one.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Lap left or five to go, and uh, that is
that this is he he actually hit a wheelie uh
and and was like up like this on his back
two wheels forever and then the air called him and
send him, send him for a flip on his top.
Uh and slid into the wall and it was all
(14:33):
that was wild.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Yeah, that was a wild crash you appear, you know,
and he's okay when she speaks to the unbelievable space
I think is his name.
Speaker 7 (14:41):
I think sober sixty Yeah again, yeah, yeah, still on
his back wheels, Let's see.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
How long is Harvick And some of the other guys
on the announcing said they had they've never seen a
wreck like that where he's up. He's up on his
back two wheels like that, and he just caught air wheelie.
Speaker 7 (15:00):
That's like when you're on the back of like a boat,
you're getting drug behind a boats and the little thing
will go up there.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Oh sure, we've all done that.
Speaker 9 (15:06):
That's what it looked like.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
People are calling. It was called full Speed. If they're
gonna have another one, because it's right, this year's will
be about last year's.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
I love that series.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
As a matter of fact, I enjoyed that. That really
got me all into NASCAR again, so, which was probably
the intention of the show. All right, So then we
had the president there. President Trump was there. Now everybody
started sending me over the weekend, have you heard Trump
talking to the drivers? I guess he's in the pace car. Yeah,
And I said I have not, And they said what
was up with this voice? He sounds kind of like
(15:40):
Larry the patch collector out of Dublin, Georgia. And I
thought exaggeration, and then I listened to it. Yeah, and
it really sounds strange. Now what the President said also
owns me because he is a character. It started when
he refers to himself as everybody's favorite president.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Now, now there was a little bit of miss miss communication.
I'm sure there was some technical issues. They had pitched
to President Trump and he said, you know, mister President,
the radio is yours or whatever, and then like thirty
to forty seconds went by and he never said youthing.
So then so then they had to come back and
tell it again.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
And this is where we pick up here.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
But I'm sure there was probably a little breakdown in communication.
But he's in his limo and everything. Rick, at least
he's in the Beast, but the beast the hot lane.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Yeah, on the terms, and.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Even he sounds a little weird.
Speaker 8 (16:38):
Think about Larry, this is your favorite president.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I'm a peace man.
Speaker 11 (16:44):
I am a really big.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Fan of people that you do this.
Speaker 10 (16:47):
I don't know, but I just want you to be sad.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Your talent, these people that great people and great Americans.
Have a good day.
Speaker 11 (16:55):
You have a lot of fun, and I'll see you later.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
That wasn't the president. Sound anything? You can even and
if anybody wants to send me some patches, if.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
You go back, you can even hear when the guy
says mister, he even sounds a little jarumo.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
He does.
Speaker 9 (17:10):
But that if you had told me that was the president,
I wouldn't believe you.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
It was when he said it was your this is
your favorite president, I went, if that's wrong.
Speaker 9 (17:17):
Well, favorite president.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
President.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
By the way, speedy sounds better is Trump than Trump does?
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Here?
Speaker 12 (17:27):
This is your favorite president.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Man, I am a real.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
People that you do this, I don't know, but I
just want you to be safe.
Speaker 9 (17:36):
You're talent.
Speaker 11 (17:37):
These people that great people and green Americans. Have a
good day, have a lot of fun, and I'll see
you later.
Speaker 9 (17:43):
You know that's not the president.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
He received this thread. They got him out of there,
and this guy was fake.
Speaker 9 (17:50):
In the world. Hey, he did do a fly over.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Yeah, this is cool.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
When he landed and everything, it's just pretty neat.
Speaker 9 (17:59):
There's ald on Force one. The crowd's going nice.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
I'm going to read you on a cool Hey birch, Hey,
Birge from the weekend in the email about this and
it'll lead into the other thing. Okay, so here it is.
I love this. It's from Vince. Hey bird, Hey bird,
I'm forty and I have never watched a NASCAR start
until today. But you guys pulled me in because even
(18:28):
though we don't know as much about NASCAR as once did.
As you can obviously hear and see painfully, we were
talking about that everybody should experience this at least once
in their life. This pulled Vince in. Okay, he said
a few thoughts about it. It said the start time
was twelve thirty and we were still not full speed.
That's aggravating. Loved Trump being there and this is the
(18:51):
one that he brought up to and the Thunderbirds flying
made me a little misty. Finally, one thing I would
liked to ask those of you that maybe know more
about NASCAR, not as much. We don't know as much now,
but we grew up on him. Any guy with a
name like Almondinger should really be in a Toyota, not
a Chevy. Okay, that's a that's a good observation from Vince. Yeah,
(19:14):
but Ben says we pulled him in. He wanted to
see a start of a major GASCAR man. He said,
it made a misty a little bit. Yeah, he said, like,
see this get started as thirty first what we said,
But did they start on time? Didn't have to pull
him in.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Yeah, but the Thunderbirds, they just they were incredible. Yeah,
they didn't get many laps in at all. Oh, they
had to shut down because of weather. I did actually
can't help that.
Speaker 9 (19:36):
I found some footage of Trump behind the behind the wheels,
So that's what that was him he got.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
That's so funny.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
So yeah, the Thunderbirds, apparently you see some of the
moves they did. I did see. I mean I just
saw people show me the highlights.
Speaker 9 (19:56):
Here's a here's a clip of him being interviewed. Let's
see if his voice sounds norm real quick, that's okay
with you?
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Like what was that President of the nice mister president?
Five years ago? We were standing in this very spot.
What brings you back to the Great American Race? I
think it's fantastic.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
It's great for the country.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
A country is doing well again and we have spirit
all over the world. Did you hear that the what
the winner got? I mean, you look at the purse.
I mean, it's a lot of money. But they also
gave him not twelve the carton of eighteen eggs. Did
you see he got eggs eighteen? Yeah, yeah, yeah, wow,
(20:33):
not to twelve with its trophy. This is Daytona. He
got eighteen eggs. Top of the hour. We'll be right back.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
We just updated you on the Daytona five hundred. We
don't we were all of us a little taken back,
but high little Donald Trump's commentary from the the limousine
that was leading the field, the two way that he
was talking on and he sounded he sounded a little
bit like Larry the patchwock it. It was bizarre. As
(21:10):
I said, speedy sounds more like Trump as the man
of a thousand voices. And that clip. Well, we've recapped
the high points of the Daytona five hundred, but then
people have just i mean overwhelmed the text line saying guys,
you cannot miss the ARCA race. Now, those of you
that are not that familiar with stock car racing, the
(21:35):
ARCA series that is like there's the Infinity Series, which
is kind of the one step down. The ARCA Series
is if you can get a car together, haul it
over there and qualify, you get to race. I mean
it's what it felt like. You there's some great ARCA
stories we grew up going to the ARCA race. You
would like look out and see like a man driving
(21:56):
in the ARCA race that you knew. Yeah, they always
ran that Saturday before the race when we were growing up.
Wait a minute, is that David Roman out there? I
mean you would yeah, if you could put us, if
you could put a car together and qualify, now you
got to qualify. But so uh so people are saying
there's a YouTube influencer that I'm not familiar with, Kletas McFarlane. Yeah,
I actually got to drive a car.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Yeah. His name is Garrett Mitchell. He goes by Kletas McFarlane.
He's a YouTube star, race car driver, car enthusiast. He
also hosts his own events, kleadis and cars at various
tracks across the country. He's competed in Robbie Gordon's Stadium
Super Truck Series and is part time in ARCA. Okay,
and they interviewed him, and everybody's telling us, you've got
(22:40):
to hear this.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
Okay, let me stop righting before we before we start,
because I want to prepare myself. And and Adam, you
may know this because this is kind of your world
in speed. You just gave me the background. So is
he created a character Cletus McFarlane. That's what he goes
about to see, like a guy pretending to be It's
not this is not genuine article.
Speaker 7 (22:58):
I think his name is not real, but from what
I can tell, how he's acting seems like kind of
who he is.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
Well, like I said, his name is Garrett Mitchell and
it says his stage name is Kletus McFarlane.
Speaker 7 (23:09):
Yeah, that's that's what it says. And I've never heard
of this guy. I don't know anything about this guy.
He seems like he enjoys cars and driving and racing
in America.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Okay, so that's what it appears. Greg, I will let's
use your discernment. Yeah, I want you to tell us
whether this is Hey, I have this character like the
you guys. Let's just admit it. The time that we
heard Larry the cable guy talking in his normal voice, man,
it changed my whole But that hurts. But his character
(23:39):
he's created is so funny. It's okay. Yeah, there's nothing
wrong with it. So this guy may be funny enough
that I don't care. But you know, sometimes when you
get into this, well let's just let's just hear it.
Let's just see because the textures are on fire forward,
so they think we're gonna love it.
Speaker 9 (23:54):
And this is his first ARCA race ever.
Speaker 11 (23:56):
Just for a little background, well, I said, having the
best day of my life around dayton of like a
bald eagle. Uh, it's flat out, you know, avoided a wreck,
which was awesome. I thought I was the best driver
that ever exists in that moment. And uh, it's probably
because my sleeves are cut off. As I was able
to pull off that maneuver, come down pit road, then
someone slammed into my rear left corner, spun me out,
(24:18):
lived through that, got some fresh tars, went back out
of there.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
I'm hot dogging into one and two and uh.
Speaker 11 (24:26):
The car lost it in front of me, and I
saw it didn't have enough breaks to get slowed down
before it.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
And uh tried to go around it.
Speaker 11 (24:34):
Misread it zigged instead of zagged when I should have zagged,
and I zigged and bam blew to the front end
right off my high rod.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Bam, genuine article. G Yeah, uh, I find myself a
little underwhelmed by the hype. Yeah, by the hype, I
mean funny.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
But yeah, it was what I'm seeing here in the
text or backing that up, that you know, Kletus is
is a fake now, Aim, it's not his real name,
but the character or his personality is rich. He's genuine
as far as who he really is. And they say
that he helped, He's got his own helicopter, helped a
lot with the new North Carolina hurricane relief and all
that that. People really like him.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
But yeah, I mean there's I don't know. He seems
like a good old boy and I wouldn't mind going
out having a meeting three with him, but you know him,
I'm like you though, I mean I thought I was
about to I thought I was about here with the
funniest things I've ever heard. Yeah, and I won't say
it met that expectation. The fact that he's not a
straight up legit driver does that bother you?
Speaker 10 (25:34):
That?
Speaker 1 (25:36):
You know what I'm saying, that he's that he's out
there like doing a bit or like, which is fine.
I actually don't have a problem that actually was going
to I see your point, Like he is he a
character that's on the circuit and will get a lot
from him. Really, that's a good idea. Look, I'm if
he's got that, you got to pull it off. I'm
gonna get in the car and I'm actually racing arm
I'm a YouTube influencer, and I went out there and
(25:59):
I and my whole YouTube experiences around cars.
Speaker 9 (26:02):
I guess his whole channel is all cars, okay.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
And then I drove in and I think, yeah, I
think that's great question.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Here.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
I go to movie Trivia with Greg and Talladega Night's
Ricky Bobby. When he was doing interviews, was he playing
off that like because some people people some people said
Ricky Bobby did it better?
Speaker 6 (26:20):
Is he?
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Are they? And so are they saying that he used
some of his the way he was describing things as
like Ricky Bobby would do or I don't I'm asking
that question because a lot of the texts are going
it's just constant Ricky Bobby.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
So when he would like you, I don't want to
do my hands and all.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
That, Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 11 (26:38):
No.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
I thought it was good. It felt like he was
legitimately talking about his experience on the track. I can
see where the zig and the zag part, you know,
would be something if you pulled that out, that might
be funny to play from time to time. But but
I did not. It wasn't as funny as I thought
it was gonna be. But but I will say this,
I congratulate him for finding his niche and and this
(26:59):
is huge for YouTube channel. Oh yeah to getting in
drive in an arc ration. I commended for that and
and that was a that was a good interview. But
I mean the text, I mean the way the text
was coming in. I was like, I'm about to see
something that I'm asked her to play again.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Yeah, people really like him, I say, I think he's
the check out What No, I'm just saying this is
it's it's crazy saying I've never heard of it.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Drag drag racer. Yeah, all about cars.
Speaker 7 (27:28):
He bought an abandoned racetrack. He bought the Soto Speedway
in Bradenton, Florida, built a house on it. Uh, and
now he's got this racetrack in his backyard.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
That's funny.
Speaker 9 (27:39):
The Soto Speedway, that's pretty cool. It's a three eighth
mile track, so it's not you know, it's not full
size or anything. But I don't have a racetrack in
my bad yard.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
No, you don't.
Speaker 9 (27:52):
Grand stance and everything that's cow.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Yeah. I just wasn't want to live in an abandoned
race track.
Speaker 9 (27:58):
Well, I mean race that's racing.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
And he's highly successful on his YouTube channel and apparently
a lot of people love what he does, so good
for him. Absolutely, Yeah, it just I was just saying
I thought we were about to play a segment that
I was like, Man, I mean when someone says you
have to play it, I'm well, by golly, we got
to get to this. But I do want to maybe
look at more and say if I can find stuff
and go okay, yeah, well I'm not that interested in cars,
(28:24):
so yeah, that probably won't pull me in, and frankly,
I wish yeah, yeah, I'm sorry that's so. But now
he's a successful guy and it's great for his YouTube channel.
No doubt.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
People are saying that when Trump was doing the this
is your Favorite President that a lot of people on
the these news sources, when they would play back that
for the reporting on the dayton On to five hundred,
they edited out the favorite president.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
Oh, I'm sure they did.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
What's to me, though, I wouldn't have to me if
even God, Look, I think he's a card and I'm
excited about what this administration is doing. And I certainly
he certainly got my vote along with a lot of
other people. But to me, if I was like someone
who you know, has this weird, you know, rage syndrome,
you know that about Trump, where they just think he's
(29:20):
the end of the world, I wouldn't edit out him
saying himself that he's their favorite president. I would think
that would be funny, that would be something you could
dig on.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
A little bit.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Yeah, of course he told everybody was his favorite president. See,
I find that funny. But I mean if I if I, yeah,
if I had that rage you know syndrome, then I
would play it and then be mad about it, right
editing it out. I don't understand what that really is.
I mean, you could you could go either way with that,
but I guess they just don't like anything like that.
But I will tell you, uh, and then we'll move
(29:50):
on this on cut one. Uh, you know, as far
as trying to understand what just happened in this uh,
this latest election, and look, at things like the crowd's
reaction when the camera pans to Donald Jay Trump, President
Trump at the Dayton of five hundred, So here come,
(30:13):
or the line of the three.
Speaker 9 (30:20):
The Home of the Over is that Jeral Kate singing there.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Sounded like yeah, yeah, all right, so and you came
in talking about it speedy, but you said you couldn't
watch it, apparently, And this is what keeps happening, and
this is why the left keeps losing. So when the
left sees the Dayton of five hundred and people cheering
(30:48):
for President Trump and hey, I'm out front of the
cars and I'm here, they scream, what do I care
about what a bunch of racists think? And they're totally
missing it, totally missing it. And apparently they did the
Saturday Night Live fiftieth anniversaries that right, And I don't
know what this was. I didn't see it, but you
(31:09):
said you tried to watch it try, well, you probably were,
like Greg and I were asking you today when we
started the show. I thought this would be them showing
the fifty fifty years of the greatest moments in Saturday
Night Live history. But you're saying that that wasn't it
well what I saw with you know what I saw.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
I tuned in when Will Ferrell was performing something live
and I tried to stay with it. I don't know
what it is, and I might disappoint some of you.
I've never really been all into Saturday Night Live. Maybe
it's me in live events and stuff.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
I just don't.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
I have no idea, but I for a little bit
I understand Tom Hanks. He played a Maga supporter, which
was a racist Maga supporter. That's upset a lot of folks.
Speaker 9 (31:54):
I've got a quick clip of that.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
In fact, if you want jeardy, but I could stay funny.
Speaker 9 (31:58):
Black Jeopardy is funny.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Got stayed with it for about a minute and Terry
and I said, I go back to day.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Okay, this this is one of my favorite bits.
Speaker 9 (32:06):
Black Jeffary is great.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Okay, so that they are playing by Jeopardy to.
Speaker 9 (32:10):
Your point, Speedy, the both. I watched the concert.
Speaker 7 (32:13):
I watched a lot of the SNL concert because they
had on Friday Night a lot of the old acts
that appeared on the show, musical act they had and
this was a live concert at Radio City Music Hall,
and it was not switched well, it was not shot well,
the audio was not good, and they spent a lot
of time like kind of focusing on like the punk
era of SATURDAYNT Live and so you've got really really
(32:35):
old guys trying to do rock punk songs.
Speaker 9 (32:38):
It was very awkward. Anyway, back to what we were
talking about. Here is black Jeopardy.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
The host what's his name, Kel Keenan.
Speaker 9 (32:46):
Yeah, you got Keenan and kel you know I'm talking about.
So here here's that awkward moment, and you'll get the idea.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
I'd like to shake your hand, sir.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
Here we go.
Speaker 9 (32:54):
Oh no, no like that.
Speaker 13 (32:55):
Oh no, no, it's just it's just a handshah alright.
Speaker 9 (32:59):
Okay, so Tomak's acting like you don't want to shake
a black guy's handcuff he's a MAGA supporter.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Okay, well again this is the big miss. They're also
missing how many black people voted for Trump, and they're
also missing the overwhelming loss and if their response is
always going to be this kind of garbage, Okay, you
didn't vote for our candidates and you don't believe what
we believe, which makes you stupid. And that's really what
(33:25):
they mean, because racism is based on stupidity. But it's
always the bottom line is where they choose racism, whether
they choose whatever they choose, it's always going to be
if you don't see the world the way we do,
and if you don't agree with what we think America
should be. It's not because our ideology is flawed and
(33:46):
it's never worked in the history of the world. It's
because you're stupid. And they can keep doing that all
they want to, but it's only to their own demise.
And you also are not understanding why you got beat
and if you can't figure that out, if I was
as big a celebrity, and I enjoy a lot of
the work that Tom Hanks has done because I can
(34:07):
get past disagreeing and still enjoying what somebody does if
it's done well. And I mean, how can you beat
Forrest Gump? But one of the things that these celebrities
have failed, apparently to take away is you don't have
as much influence as you think you do. You think
people will do whatever you say just because they want
(34:28):
to see you pretend to be somebody else or sing
a song, and you're wrong, because you remember, Kamala brought
many celebrities out on her behalf right, that she thought,
oh yeah, this right had people. You can't make the
money that you make without people who disagree with you
politically also enjoying what you do. But if you think
that means you can tell them how to vote and
they'll just fall in line, you're wrong about that. And
(34:51):
I think they failed to realize that. They keep thinking
they have more political influence than they actually have. And
one of the things that people usually respond to is
this ideology didn't seem to work out. Another ideology seems
to give me a better life, and that's why you lost.
And they can't seem to put a finger on that.
(35:14):
And calling those who voted stupid because they don't agree
with you is not going to It's not going to
change anything. And it's also like Adler talked about, it's
not creative, it's not clever, it's low hanging fruit, and
it makes you look lazy. Yeah, and it just all
(35:37):
it does is turn people away from now what you
need people because people can get to the point where
they say, you know what, you crossed the line with me,
and now I just don't know that I can continue
to even enjoy the things you do that aren't political.
You got to watch it. But if there's one thing
celebrities need to learn from the election is you don't
(35:58):
have as much influence as you think you do. Yeah,
they proved that this last time. At bottom of the hour,
we'll be right back.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
So a couple of things to still cover from the
Saturday Night Live fiftieth anniversary. Steve Martin did the opening monologue,
and so we have about fifteen seconds of that, and
then a funny interaction with Seinfeld and a paparazzi guy,
which is interesting too. So here's Steve Martin fifteen seconds
(36:35):
of the opening monologue, and.
Speaker 7 (36:36):
He talked about age a good bit. He mentioned SNL
is fifty and I'm seventy nine. I don't mind getting older.
A few old jokes, and then here's one of them.
Speaker 6 (36:46):
Now a fun fact, a person born during the first
season of Saturday Night Live could today be easily dead
of natural causes.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
That's funny, easily.
Speaker 7 (37:02):
It was funny seeing some of these folks as they've
gotten older. Oh my goodness, that dude that used to
be like the front man, he used to shred the guitar.
He made an appearance and boy, he looked old, but
it was great to see him again. Man, I used
to look. I liked it when I was a kid
a lot. The Adam Sandler Chris Farley era, Will Ferrell
(37:22):
Errow was my era of Saturday Night Live, and they
had a lot of throwbacks to that era. But like
I said, the broadcast was just clunky and the audio
wasn't even great, and even some of the heavy hitters
came in and just kind of struggled. Mike Myers came
back and it did like the talk amongst yourselves.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
That whole thing we're talking about coffee.
Speaker 9 (37:42):
Coffee talk here.
Speaker 7 (37:43):
Yeah, and even even then, just some of these heavy
hitters seemed a little rusty or just uncomfortable.
Speaker 9 (37:50):
But yeah, Rick to that that clip that you were
talking about. Seinfeld was all over it.
Speaker 7 (37:54):
He was all over the SNL fifty concert that they
did on Friday, and he was in the audience at
the at the actual the show in the SNL studio,
Papa Razzo came up to him and asked for a selfie,
and that interaction was awkward.
Speaker 9 (38:08):
Jerry, can I get a selfie.
Speaker 10 (38:11):
Free Palestine?
Speaker 9 (38:15):
I don't care about.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Care about Palestine. So the guy tries to do free
Palestine with his self Jewish and Jerry's Jewish and he's like, yeah,
I don't care about Palestine.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Yes, you know, I couldn't look said.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
So so, and then I just said no, not with
that voice.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
Not with that voice.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Video eight. So Speedy came in talking about this. You
addler came in talking about this hockey Canada versus the
U s A. Now, now help me with why are
these two teams playing.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
It's a four nations face off between US, Canada, Finland
and Sweden and UH, and they've kind of had a
round robin format and UH, the US beat Canada three
to one Saturday night. Yeah, come on, and so they've
made it to the finals on Thursday. Today's a big
day for Canada and UH and Finland. Sweden plays the
(39:16):
US as well, but the US is already in so anyway,
long story short, they get booed for the our national
anthem and it didn't take and suddenly, and two of
them are brothers that are on the US roster. Three
fights broke out in the first nine seconds. I mean,
I'm talking about dropping gloves. Let's go, let's go, And
(39:39):
it was fantastic.
Speaker 7 (39:40):
And this one minute video kind of summarizes the everything
that Speedy just said, the entire game.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Yeah, there's the moon, Canadians booing.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
Us, the players, the flots runaway starts fight, start.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Go ahead, starts running us.
Speaker 9 (39:57):
So Brady America, let's talk.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
So if you go to the ground, they automatically get
you out. Yeah right, so speech now we got we got.
Now there's another.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
Yeah, this is can This is the US one baby,
and so yeah your pancakes, that were you a Canadian?
Speaker 7 (40:24):
Yeah boo that you got a leaf journey leafy at
your own game in your own stadium.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
You couldn't even exist without us.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
Yeah, and then they need us on that wall. There
was less than two minutes left, so uh, Canada pulled
pulled their goalie to try to out man us.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
And then we got a shot on goal with nobody there,
so Fred of your leaf. We ended up winning three
to one. Uh and made made Canon, made Canada like.
At course, Trudeau goes, I'm proud of the Canadians.
Speaker 3 (40:55):
I'm proud of by.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
People were moving. You're talking about the people who are
so upset with you, you're having to down. Nobody likes
you either.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
Yeah, we made you like it.
Speaker 9 (41:04):
Yeah, get that maple syrup and put it three to
one of your own game.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Yeah. So now today Canada, as I said, Canada and
Finland play to see who plays the US Thursday night.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
And so that's the great thing about hockey. They stand
there and watch you fight. Now, if you get on
the ground, they reach it and break it. Well, that's
what's going to ask, because you know you've said this, Speedy,
I agree with you. We've openly said this. We don't
like hockey as much as we should. I'm mad at myself.
Every time I go to a hockey game. I love it.
Every time I get in get into hockey. I'm glad
I did. I just need to be a little more
(41:40):
intentional about it. But I want to ask this, and Greg,
maybe you just said it. They let them fight. Fighting
is part of it, which I love that do they?
That's that's the deal. If you go to the ground,
that's when the that's when the officials get involved.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
I don't know if it looks like to me they're
waiting for a break so they can they can like,
but they're gonna let you go to their a break
of some kind. If that could be to the ground,
or that could be maybe you're separated in some way,
then they'll they'll jump in. But so JC, my middle one,
for those of you do not know, he is all
about hockey, all right. He was a Huntsfile havoc. He
(42:16):
loves the Birmingham Bulls, all that kind of stuff. But
they have adopted the Dallas Stars in the NHL I'm
talking about. They bought banners for their room, they bought
merch and I don't know why him in his three room?
Speaker 1 (42:30):
Why they picked that?
Speaker 4 (42:31):
You No, No, I have one of my really good friends, Herring.
There's your name. He got JC because his son and
JC are good friends. He got him into the Dallas Stars.
Why they picked them, I don't know, but that's kind
of what j C tells me. But guys I'm talking about.
They have watch parties. They it's everything Dallas Stars and
(42:51):
he was all about this. He was texting me saying, Dad,
are you seeing these fights? Please tell me you're seeing
these fights? And and look, the US players said they
didn't like it. And then they've been booed before, but
they didn't like it. They were they were pretty they
were pretty upset. And I forget which one of the
brothers told the other brothers. I'm going I'm in, Okay,
this is I'm as soon as soon as it soon
(43:13):
as we get get the puck drops, I'm in.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
By the way, uh, A lot of people are saying that,
and they're also throwing in there to the Canadians, your
Canadian bacon, we just call it ham. That's a good one,
by the way, bacon, they say, to the ground our blood.
Oh they step in.
Speaker 3 (43:32):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Off the text line, this must be this is good
news for hockey. And I think I see why because
of some of the things that that it offers. When
I look at my kids, they like hockey too, especially
my youngest one, Uh, Brody, Brody loves hockey with the
So I think there's a generation that that's embracing hockey
(43:53):
more than we bring the time I didn't have access
to hockey when we were kidding.
Speaker 4 (43:56):
Every time I have any kind of taste of hockey,
I love it, saying and so I'm like, so then
why I'm not?
Speaker 1 (44:01):
Why am I not.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
Looking for it?
Speaker 3 (44:02):
What's what?
Speaker 1 (44:03):
If you want to have a blast, go to a
hockey game. Yeah, I mean it's it's great.
Speaker 4 (44:06):
So now you've got Today's a big day for who
plays US. As I said, Uh, the game tonight with
Sweden doesn't meet a whole lot for the US. It
does for them as far as if they beat US
in regulation or the you know, as far as the
points system goes, they could end up being in a
Thursday Night. But if US handles business, uh, then you know,
(44:29):
Sweden is out. So this is just a formality tonight.
But the big game is Canada and Finland to see
who plays Thursday Night against the US, and that one
is in America. That that's the USA the Finals in Boston.
Speaker 1 (44:45):
We come back, we'll go phone calls next. We've thrown
a lot at you in a short period of time today,
a lot of ground to cover, and we've covered a
lot of it. We shall have more personal stories on
the weekend coming up over the next few hours. But
let's let's do it. Check in with you America right
now at eight eight eight the number six Big Vox
(45:05):
phone calls. All lines are cleared and ready for you.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
So this past weekend, headed to the atl headed to
the Hot Atlanta. Isn't that fun? Hot Atlanta? So you
know I'm learning some stuff too, you know, put some
pictures up from the Atlanta trip, and the first picture
addlers is the one people are really you know, checking
(45:37):
out and saying there must be a story behind this
gone on. I learned a new hip phrase, and I
think Sherry is watching on YouTube or listening, so I
want her to know this. One of the comments that
I saw. I didn't know this hip phrase is let's
see right there? Where is it that? It's actually the
one For some reason, sometimes go down to the hidden
(45:58):
it'll do hidden it. I don't know why because the
person didn't say anything. It's it's Kimberly and Sherry. She says, hey,
at mom, girl, deats on that necklace? Please? So I
didn't know what deats meant because I'm not I'm not here.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
And what it is.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
What it is is another woman saying I need the
details on that on that necklace, and you know, she
had this really cool necklace. And like we stopped one
place and even the woman behind the counter said, hey, girls,
dats on that necklace?
Speaker 10 (46:28):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (46:28):
What that means is that? No, I think you're supposed
to hip it now? Hey, hey Rick, deets on that
hoodie you got on? Where did it come from?
Speaker 5 (46:37):
And what on?
Speaker 1 (46:39):
That dats on, that beats on that so no, that
that picture right there, it was we have you know,
when you're going to visit your adult children. And we
talked about this so much. Is we we as dad's
it's just uh, I mean we're we're you know, cause
you're just like, come on, come on, son, have you
(47:00):
act together? Now you know this, Let's let's have the
apartment in order. Let's let's let's be on. Let's be
on times. Now, I will say this on time. When
you're dealing with one Brooks, big love Burgess, you're gonna
deal with punctual. You're gonna deal with on top of it.
So it's not like dealing with the others Okay, okay,
and they know who they are, okay, when really, honestly
(47:21):
there's no telling what might happen. Okay, but no, Brooks
stays on top of his business and he's gone. He
had us some stuff planned to do. So one of
the things that that we've discovered as a little gem
if you got something, is we were we were going
over to Atlanta has this and look you can tell
shere's involved here that has this incredible botanical gardens. Now
(47:45):
we're not going there to see the garden. But one
of time about is they have some pretty cool events.
So we stumbled upon one back in the spring that
that we didn't expect. We were just looking for something
to do, and but this one was was revolving around Valentines.
So we were going there and going to come in
(48:05):
and we're going to do that on Friday night, not food,
trying to go out to eat anywhere, because they were
going to do food there and I'll tell you about that.
And then Saturday, you know, we're going to go to
a nice, rich restaurant that he loves and where he
lives in the part of Atlanta. Because you do realize,
I've had two adult children live in Atlanta and all
of you have. Are you living Atlanta? You know this
(48:26):
to be true.
Speaker 8 (48:27):
You just live in.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
You're part of Atlanta. You do not try to maneuver
all of Atlanta all the time. You only go and
you only leave your area for a special event that
might be happening somewhere else in Atlanta. But the day
to day operation, you just stay in. You're part of Atlanta, Okay.
If not, you'll never get anywhere. You'll spend most of
your life in traffic. Okay, yes, so we try to
(48:49):
stay in his part of Atlanta and then he knows
all the backways. It's kind of odd, you know, to
realize these these big, giant cities, and all of my
kids only have one that lives in Birmingham. All the
others live in New York City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and so
you know, anytime you go for a visit, it's I mean,
they got they know what's going on, and you need
(49:11):
to listen to them, you know what I mean, No, no, no,
don't go this way that you know, I mean, you
need to listen because they have to deal with it
every day. And so Saturday, we were going to do
a meal and then we're going to go to this
museum there, fern Bank, which is kind of a dinosaur
kind of but has some cool walking trails. And Sherry's
out of the boot, so she's back to walk. Yeah
(49:34):
and so yeah, So anyway, so Friday night, first of all,
probably one of the best moves that that I that
I made, okay, is and and Sherry was Sherry every
now and then would have declared that she wants to drive.
And I did not even remotely when I thought to
(49:55):
myself that she was willing to drive us to Atlanta.
I I said, you know what, girl, that sounds fantastic.
Oh really, no, let me tell you me driving to
Atlanta with co pilot. Yeah. Once I found out that
I just could stay out of it and hey, just
just get us there. I'm gonna sit back and I'm
gonna be DJ. You know what we did. We continued
(50:18):
the show on Friday. We did greatest love songs of
all time, and so I just sat over the pastor
seat and sang to her the whole way. And I
know she enjoyed it. And I would just sing one
Lums love song after another. That's great. And you know
what I did, I didn't care when we got there.
We left early to get settled into our hotel.
Speaker 4 (50:37):
I don't say you didn't care when y'all got there, Well,
you got to be settled.
Speaker 1 (50:41):
I was going to try not to be co pilot
and teach. And you know, because there's this thing that
both of us have, then we all have it as couples.
It's very well known. For some reason, if you go
into that passenger seat, you for some reason. I don't
know what happened. I don't know if it's some kind
of something takes you over and you're now convinced this
adult who's been driving, say we're sixteen and we're sixteen
(51:02):
fifty four, suddenly can't drive. They have no idea how
to get anywhere, you know, and and I don't know where.
And I've noticed that seat will do it to you
sometimes I thought that she and she is a back
sheet driver. But I will tell you when you sit
over there, you have to be careful for not to
take you over. Yeah, what do I wouldn't do this? Yeah,
I don't know why that that. Are you just gonna
(51:22):
sit behind this car?
Speaker 5 (51:23):
Come on?
Speaker 3 (51:23):
Pass them?
Speaker 1 (51:24):
I don't know why you start that?
Speaker 4 (51:26):
And so my favors. I'll have maps up in the
in the truck. But Terry's got her phone up. She's
got maps too, and she's zooming in on. It's like,
could you just hit go? Why are you navigating right?
You know why we zooming in?
Speaker 1 (51:38):
Just follow the blue line?
Speaker 5 (51:39):
Right?
Speaker 1 (51:40):
Yeah? And for what I got right? Yeah, the woman
know about here. I don't know this says go the
other way. This woman is telling me a thousand feet
I think she may know right, Oh, this is it
right here it's not a thousan feet and that's not
the name of the road they're talking about. That road
has a different name. Yeah, well, I don't know why
you're going this way, okay, you know, And I'm like, well,
I don't I'm just falling, it says fastest what the
(52:01):
person is saying. So anyway, I tried not to do
any of that. Her driving over there, I think was
a tremendous move because it really got us off on
a really good start. You know, there was no me
being frustrated over there saying, hey, you know, I didn't
get co pilot. I didn't copilot. I don't recall. She's
probably screaming. She's probably screaming at the TV right now.
Yes you did, but you probably didn't scream out loud. No. No,
(52:23):
the thing does. Lisa does it, and Sherry does it.
And it's not even an instruction. It's this yeah and
uh and then I think I've hit something yet, me too,
and I'll make an adjustment. What well, I thought that
car was coming over, yeah, but it didn't, she accused.
She accuses me of almost running off the road right,
And I'm fine if I almost did it, but I
(52:43):
didn't right, And it's the same.
Speaker 4 (52:45):
You scared me that this Friday she went, don't know,
I'm like, what her reacting to something on Instagram?
Speaker 1 (52:52):
Well, Sherry's is that same thing she does when I
tell you for some reason she thinks there's somebody keeps
breaking into our house even though we're there only two
people there. And I walk in the laundroom, you know,
and I'm like, who did you think was coming to
talk to you in the laundry room? Some random person
that couldn't you heard them kicking the door down first,
walking into the kitchen, Hey, will we going? I'm here,
(53:16):
So I tried not to do any of that. And
when I come back, I'll tell you I just wish
so much. And y'all gonna be mad at me, one
hundred mad at me, and you have every right to
be that I didn't document some of the things I'm
about to describe to you, me not documenting this, and
I just I just couldn't chance it, which I think
it wouldn't have gone over because it's similar to what
(53:38):
happened to you at the gas station that time. You
want to document something for us, guys, some things I
saw you will not go out right back.
Speaker 3 (53:46):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (53:54):
So I got us in early. We're at the Botanical Gardens,
a big Valentine's celebration, this thing of traveling around the
world and all all the different decorations and the lights
and all that and it and it was great. It
was absolutely great. So we got all of our meals
in I think we we ate in Peru, we ate it,
the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, dish over over with Greece, Japan
(54:18):
and see. Oh and there's seems like there's one other.
It was India. Yeah, and now I like, I like
India to get you.
Speaker 8 (54:27):
And it was what you do.
Speaker 1 (54:29):
It was the food was fantastic.
Speaker 4 (54:32):
I was big love eating on a senior citizens schedule
so early.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
He couldn't believe it. He couldn't he couldn't believe the
entire schedule. He was. He was a bit shocked. By
the next day. We were gonna be his apartment at
nine thirty nine thirty son, that's Saturday, and I'm like,
we're yeah, sure so uh but anyway, so we and
then it happened we had gone by and I'd kind
(54:57):
of noticed that you had different things, like you had
one place would have more of a classical you know,
quartet playing the strings. One area would have your standard
you know, every time you go to somebody's reception off
if they've hired a band, that band, you know, you
got a you know, R, E, S, B, C, T
and and all all of that genre, live band, good musicians, horns,
(55:21):
the whole thing. Then then you had something that was
a little more you know, kind of I'm a guitar
over here picking, you know, kind of thing. And then
you had you Then you had your DJ, so it's
different kind of music everywhere. And then you had just
your straight up DJ and and a little bit of
a dance fl and uh. So you saw that in
or sunglasses. So that was part of the bag they
(55:43):
gave you. Inside there was there were sunglasses that were
kind of you know, they were supposed to be called
rose colored glasses because of Valentine's and all that, and
uh and we looked pretty cool at them.
Speaker 4 (55:53):
And and so I was like leather jacket to watch out.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (55:58):
Uh huh.
Speaker 1 (55:58):
And so the DJ, the DJ, the DJ made I
consider the blessing the family might have thought. The mistake
he spun word up and uh and once there's no
way that you can keep from going out there with
the word up. Yeah, right now, I thought that, gosh,
(56:19):
he drops the bomb after this, you know. Now, keep
in mind, this is one thing you're going to love.
This is going to be the end of the story.
But just if you're if you're watching at home and
you're paying attention, do not forget that Big Papa took
this on. This is a workday for Big Papa. So
he's been up since three he's been up since three
fifteen am. But right now he's riding high up on
(56:39):
the on the cuisines of the world. Okay. So, so
he's got a little fake energy. He's got a fault.
He's a little delusional. How much energy you's got? Okay,
it's so so I thought, well, my goodness, And you
know in Sherry, of course she can grow good gracious,
you know. And and Brooks knows the words to any
(57:00):
dance song ever, and you know he's gonna be loud.
And so I will say, I've never in this setting
ever seen now I'm gonna say this, so you get
an idea. I'm sixty, okay, and these people make me
look like a young guy on the floor. Oh got you.
I've been to a lot of places, and I've been
(57:23):
to a lot of wedding receptions and things where you
still have a band or a DJ. And yes, I've
seen older people try to groove. Never have I seen
people this old dance this hard. Never never seen anything
like it. It was, I mean, it was almost like
I think I found a pot of people that no
one's ever seen before.
Speaker 4 (57:42):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
That's I should have been sure. Was like, don't you
do that? And I mean, let me tell you, there
was a you know, now, the Asians, they age well,
but this guy even looked old for an Asian. Okay,
I thought he was gonna ask me. I thought he
was going to try to ask me if I could
snap the pebble of his hands. Okay, Now, look, I
mean I've never seen anybody that age dance that hard.
(58:09):
I mean, he didn't feel he had this crab move.
Speaker 4 (58:12):
Watched the hip. Watch the heck I gonna be a
little sore.
Speaker 1 (58:14):
I haven't. I haven't. Yeah, my hip, I had to
watch it. I think I'm gonna have to go to
the floor. Am I gonna be uncomfortable to the face.
Speaker 4 (58:23):
So he's walking he's walking around to the rest an
older Asian man had.
Speaker 5 (58:27):
A woman with him.
Speaker 1 (58:28):
I had a woman with him, okay, and he was
all up in the facing.
Speaker 5 (58:31):
And look he had this.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
I decided me, he's gonna hurt his hip. Oh my god,
wait a minute. He's covering that kind of ground. He's
running into people. And he would put his hands on
his hips, he would put his hands on his head.
(58:59):
He was a crab. It was like an Asian crab
all over that dance floor. It looks like you weren't
there to get because you would have.
Speaker 4 (59:07):
It looked like he was fencing with no sword so
or whatever they're called.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
So then yeah, So then then there was a woman
that was in her seventy hip. I know, she quick feet.
Oh his feet were amazing. And every now and then,
of course there would be some martial art moves but
on the air, yes you're but and then there was
(59:31):
a woman that was like, I don't know what song
she's dancing too. I got no idea. But let me
tell you something. You talk about somebody. I think in
her mind she thought she was shaking her her in,
but she wasn't, you know. I mean, it was like
she was trying to get it to go you know, man,
it was just like you're trying to get out of
a bag. Okay, and uh it's some of the words
(59:53):
you the best dancer that I tell you. For a minute,
I was John Travolta, look at this now we officially
are we in the middle of the floor. Are we
on the side kind of felling it? We were steps
the middle. We were on the side because if you
get in the middle, quick steps gonna hit you. And
then and then swaying hips. She's a little reckless. And
then and then all of a sudden, I'm talking about
(01:00:17):
seriously old person, really old to bogging on cold. He
hits the floor and I thought, well, this is not
even possible. I mean he danced. Now, he didn't dance
long because he just didn't have that any boy, but
he danced so hard and then gave us all a
(01:00:38):
look when he finished. What about that? I just pointed
at him. I was like, that's amazing. Now I don't again.
It was just you still have your shades on your
point of course, we never took the shades off the ar.
I mean we were just and then then he kind
of I think there was a moment where the day
DJ thought we had more than we really had, uh
(01:01:01):
huh okay, and we started out will you word up?
And then all of a sudden kind of started getting
into songs that were kind of nasty, you know, and
then all of a sudden sharing our dancing show, what
did you say? And uh and I'm like, wow that
the one Brooks didn't even sing that one, you know?
And uh, as brook still with y'all? Or is he
now embarrassed of his parents? Drifted over to some younger people,
That's what I thought, Yeah, and and started at one
(01:01:23):
point trying not to associate with us, like drift over
a quick step. Yeah, got here once by Asian quick step,
the human crab. But guys, I've never seen I've never seen.
The old people were dancing so hard that the young
people didn't know what to do. I'm surprised no injuries.
At one point the young people just just it turned
into an audience like what are they going? What are
(01:01:44):
they gonna do next? And in the middle it's almost
like I was holding all together. I was kind of
that transition between the old Yeah, I'm not going any right,
I got a little bit of this watch.
Speaker 13 (01:01:54):
You know, and again right, and then a little bit
of a little bit of that, and then and then,
and then it happened.
Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
I don't know why my body chose the time it did.
All of a sudden, we moved on from the DJ,
and as we're moving away from the DJ, I realize
I'm done. All of a sudden it hits me and
I'm not just kind of done. I'm talking about if
I could have got away with it, I would have
laid down. Boy, Okay. I was like, I think, I
(01:02:25):
think I'm going to bed, like right now. You know,
we can't lay down that grass. And if your energy
was a car, I would say low fuel. And so
Sherry and Brooks acted like they had more left. Let's
go see that one live man on the way, did Sherry,
here's the female singer singing Aretha okay eating And all
of a sudden I was like, no, no, I don't
(01:02:45):
have it. I don't have it in me, and and
they took me in there and then this is going
back to the rest and the guy who was owning
it me on the floor turned into this you ever
got on the body and your say it's just not there.
Speaker 4 (01:02:58):
Is walking back around the dance.
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
The life of the party encouraging. It's like the whole
family's dance.
Speaker 6 (01:03:07):
I'm like.
Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
Trying to get my feet, lifting up, your eyes getting heavy.
I couldn't get my body do anything. Everybody finally shugged,
we gotta go your dance quick for the fall. Your
dad's just swaying. He's done, he's teetering. I get my
body to do it. I mean, so my body just said,
if you don't get if you don't get back to
the hotel immediately, we're gonna go to sleep right here.
(01:03:30):
And that thing, my cookies, something, go to bed. I
just and then I start mumbling things like three point fifteen.
Everybody said, you are right. I mean Sherry Lily said,
are you okay? I think I'm done. I said, I
give I said, I've traveled the world. I've eaten all
over the world. I'm danged all over the world, and
I gotta get back. So here's a brick wall on
you just hit it. I hit a brick wall. It's
like you said about monkeys jumping on your back. I'm like,
(01:03:52):
I don't even know if I give me get to
the car, somebody help me. Cherry is right, Cherry, you
just keep driving. Rest of the weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:04:02):
Mom.
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
Do you think dad's okay? He's okay dad? Or you
al right? Is your that was asked? This is your
left arm numb? I said, I'm not having a heart attack.
Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
If you look back over my life of parking in
big cities, it was the greatest week I ever had.
Speaker 4 (01:04:22):
Really, just all everything worked out.
Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
Unbelievable. That's rare. Yeah, I pull up to this place
where we're going to have like a late breakfast. It's
it's pretty sought after. But it was raining earlier in
the morning in Atlanta, so I think people were waiting.
Uh and so I couldn't believe it. Look, there was
a parking spot I did even had to pay for speedy.
Oh well done right there by the restaurant walked out.
I thought, I'm on fire. That makes the food better.
(01:04:44):
So we had had a great meal. Headed to Fernbank Museum.
Now this is a big dinosaur thing.
Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
Interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:04:51):
Probably probably should have thought through rainy, dreary day. Everybody
brings their kids. Yeah, the whole wide world brings their kids.
And they're any of them. After their kids are sick,
they're bringing them. And I've never been around so many
coughing kids in my life, and so we we It
was like being over Dadler's house. So we sure we
(01:05:12):
get there and you know it's a big dinosaur theme,
and uh, I didn't. I've forgotten. This year reminded me
my oldest son, Blake and his wife Priscilla. They almost
got married at Fern Bank and they were gonna get
married in front of these They have this display in
the middle of the whole place. That's kind of a
big deal. They've got a big bronosaurus with a tyranic
(01:05:33):
Tyrannosaurus bones. It's huge, and they were gonna get married
right in front of it. And I'd forgotten about that,
and she was talking about that, so I was, and
so we were. It's not that when there's one inside.
But yeah, that's Brooks and I outside. These are the
dinosaurs outside.
Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
This is the day after. Do you have your legs
under it?
Speaker 11 (01:05:50):
You have?
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Brooks is trying not to say to us, y'all realize
I'm twenty six, okay, and uh and y are now
taking around Atlanta like y'all did when I was a
little boy. Yeah, I mean tell me that, tell me,
tell me that Georgia Quarium is not next okay, so
so yeah, but y'all didn't dance like yeah when he
was little. Now, the dancing was him hanging out with
his uh you know, you know, his parents at that
point he did he didn't like being treated as their equal.
(01:06:12):
He couldn't find a win. Next step six five? Yeah,
but anyways, so are you hydrated?
Speaker 11 (01:06:17):
Here?
Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
I feel great right now? Okay, I've had a great breakfast.
I feel fantastic. Didn't know it would be counted as
lunch wish, I don't know. But anyway, so so we
uh people were at the restaurant. It was good that
just we had just we liked it. So so anyway, Yeah,
I've met these people.
Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
They'll either eat breakfast.
Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
Or lunch, but not both.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:06:36):
I don't know who this.
Speaker 9 (01:06:37):
They don't live our life so crazy town.
Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
I have a bit of I have a bit of
a reputation that I asked too many questions at museums.
And I'll debate the people at the museum on their
signs and and I I didn't get a pre game.
But let me tell you before I got there, and
I'm gonna I don't know what your name is, sir,
I really don't you were in a big handle trying
to park everybody at this music him because everybody's bringing
(01:07:01):
their sick kids, and you had your hands full of
people parking along side the road. And I just asked
him straight up, hey, look at me, man, man, any
chance I get a parking spot in here. I don't
know if he was an angel, you know how they
say angels are among us. Yeah, he looked at me.
He said, there's one way up on the top of
the hill, one left. And I said, and I thought,
that's too good to be true. How would he know that? Yeah,
(01:07:23):
you're talking about a guy who knows the parking. I
go up to the top of the hill. I'm officially
in the parking lots of the museum. I'm not out
here on the road. And there's one spot on the
top last row, and I pulled into it, and I thought,
I said, I think that might have been a name.
Speaker 4 (01:07:36):
He wasn't standing there when you got there.
Speaker 1 (01:07:38):
No, he couldn't guide you in.
Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
No, because if he was, he wasn't.
Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
So anyway, So one thing I was asked to stop
doing at the museum because we went in so there's
all kinds of presentations about dinosaurs and of course they
believe in evolution at these places, and they're they're throwing
out age of the earth. It's just outrageous. And so
about the third time, I finally got the don't do
that anymore. Eighty seven million years ago? Whoa step out?
(01:08:03):
And uh? And then the would be like, so you're
commenting on it. I'm commenting everything to say something, oh,
that's bad science there, and uh and so Cherry's like,
just keep all that to yourself.
Speaker 9 (01:08:16):
Just can we just enjoy the day you said that's
bad science.
Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
Oh that's the one that I got this no more.
That's when I got to no more. Now you screamed
out bad I screamed out bad science.
Speaker 4 (01:08:25):
Is the guy or the whoever is I'm talking to
I'm talking to the stream.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
Okay, it wasn't.
Speaker 8 (01:08:31):
I can't.
Speaker 1 (01:08:32):
It wasn't like the time. And then I just now
everybody's trying to watch a three D movie and I
keep shouting they want to see t rex and I'm like,
whoa step out, and uh, it's so, oh that's bad science.
And uh at one time, we think they all had feathers,
five feathers, and so uh So I then I but
at bad science I was. I was told no more,
please don't shout in.
Speaker 4 (01:08:52):
Because you're talking to a screen.
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
Yeah, and people, and there's people in here. I was upsetting.
Never had. By the way, do people not if there
if a kid is sitting behind you coughing on everybody,
does no one feel the desire to take him out?
I mean he's coughing. He just cough the whole the
whole time. And now you're teaching a bad science and
let him caugh on everybody? Do you know the do
you know the signs of germs?
Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
The top of the office is the Rick Burgess show?
Speaker 1 (01:09:25):
All right? So over the weekend, did did some of
y'all see Gary? Uh at the National Wildlife Turkey Federation.
Speaker 14 (01:09:37):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
So, here are some things. I saw some pictures. I
saw some things he posted when he was he was riding.
See he's I asked him. I said, Gary, how did
it go? This is Saturday? Hey, and I'm gonna read
in his voice. Hey, let me tell you something. I
was pleasantly surprised at the amount of people came up
(01:09:58):
said they love knee show and people all over the southeast.
I guess that's good, I said, Ugar, that is good.
And I said, did you move all your calls? How
you went very good? And now he was just stow
things in here, like I don't know who he's talking about.
He had sold before he got there. I didn't know
what that means. He was now he was very good.
(01:10:19):
He had sold out before he got there.
Speaker 8 (01:10:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
I had to take them offline on his website. It
must be Hounds two. Oh yeah, yeah, it's back now.
All the rain were getting I guess would be time
for me to make some more calls in my woodshop.
She spent a good two days, but it was so crowded.
We left at twelve. And I try and go next
weekend if I if I go fishing with my friend.
(01:10:46):
Not gonna fly though, See he transitions. I think he
into Panama City this weekend without having any transition. Yeah,
that sounds like he's going back to the Turkey thing again.
Speaker 10 (01:10:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
And then he said, I got a story. It's pure
good for the show, pure goal. But I need to
tell you before I say anything on the show. Me
and Ben laughed so hard he almost passed out. He
spelled pasted out, almost fasted. Ben's okay from pasting out,
Hey call me and I'm gonna let you decide. Oh
that doesn't sound good. He's got to run it by me.
(01:11:20):
Doesn't tell him, never get off the calm down, don't
be too early. That doesn't sound good. What that means
the story is probably if he I don't mean whether
it's any good or not, whether we should get in trouble.
Because it's really good. I know it'll be good.
Speaker 4 (01:11:35):
There his a little selfie video of him going down
the road saying that Ben's is handler what I got
to cackling on there's a star now.
Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Yes, so he's going to a new level. So y'all
were asking do we need his help here? There's a
group of turkeys and it's weird. They're circling a gravestone
in North Dakota. They just keeps circling it at or
is that what you were saying?
Speaker 9 (01:11:57):
Yeah, I wanted to see it on is it?
Speaker 4 (01:12:00):
I know?
Speaker 9 (01:12:01):
It says Harris on the on the.
Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
Stone Harris and good night y'all. Oh no, this is
more than I thought. Look these turkeys that are like
young dollars. These are jakes. It looks like chasing each
other in a wild circles. Guys, those you that can't
see it. Picture like one of those rides at a
carnival that's a little cars on it going around. They're
(01:12:25):
just going round and round and round. Crazy. A tombstone
that has Harris on it in North Dakota. What does
that say on the top?
Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
Pet?
Speaker 9 (01:12:33):
What that's on the gravestone behind it?
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Maybe? Oh? Okay, okay, Oh I see what you're saying.
I wonder why guys, when when you when you when
you put that video? That's weirder than I thought it
would be. Yeah, I thought I thought, yeah, that's what
they think, like you wouldn't notice it. I mean, do
you think this person was like a avid turkey hunter,
mister Harris, like Gary and this is the turkey saying, well,
(01:12:58):
we'll dance on your grave. That's what it looks musical chairs,
Why would they do that? Well, of all the tombstones,
first of all, why I picked that one? How long
it lasted?
Speaker 9 (01:13:08):
Does this ever happen? Well, I mean they did a
trail in the snow.
Speaker 7 (01:13:12):
It's it's it's a snowy graveyard and they've they've knocked all.
Speaker 9 (01:13:15):
The trail down to the dirt.
Speaker 4 (01:13:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:13:20):
Does this happen around trees? Like in nature?
Speaker 5 (01:13:23):
And this time.
Speaker 9 (01:13:23):
It just happened around a gravestone. So that makes it
really creepy, is I mean, has this Have y'all seen
anything like this before?
Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
All right, so people are saying, once again, hey bird,
hey bird, you called this. It's I mean, they're not
to be trusted. This is the animals acting weird again. Yeah,
I mean, they're at our graves.
Speaker 9 (01:13:41):
Right here.
Speaker 7 (01:13:41):
It says it's a Turkey circle and it may be
due to their follow the leader nature.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
So they got hung up in a circle, couldn't get
out of it.
Speaker 9 (01:13:50):
They got hung in a circle because they're just following
the guy in front of them.
Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
So one thing, you know, they're not known for their intelligence. Okay,
all right, they're not. They see real good, they're real kiddish,
but they're not considered very intelligent.
Speaker 7 (01:14:02):
Okay, well that makes sense because they could just be
following the guy in front of them and not realizing
they're circling the gravestone.
Speaker 1 (01:14:08):
Somebody said, is impossible. This person was buried with one
of Garry's calls. Hey hey, let me tell you Turkey
where you're going. Yeah, so all right, I've never seen
this before, this behavior.
Speaker 4 (01:14:23):
A little bit more impressed with.
Speaker 7 (01:14:24):
That ants kind of getting a circle the death loop
of ants before. Have y'all seen that before death spiral?
Because they'll follow the leader too, and if they accidentally
get in a circle, it'll literally and it.
Speaker 9 (01:14:36):
Happens more in like crazy African jungle countries.
Speaker 4 (01:14:38):
But like, ah, no world.
Speaker 7 (01:14:42):
Okay, well that sounded bad the way I said it,
but you know what I mean. Yeah, so ants will
do it, but I've never seen turkeys.
Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
All right, by the way, this is a good one.
So so we think they can see incredibly well, but
they keep circling a gravestone. Can't they figure out?
Speaker 4 (01:14:55):
Speaking of an I saw real where a bunch of
ants were carrying a pop tar no way big, like
maybe a body two taken out of it. They were like, no,
they got one that big with only it's like it
was an army of them underneath.
Speaker 1 (01:15:12):
Like hey, hey, you know, I can let me tell
you if they if the instalk, if they got a
pop tartup. Don't you know they were screaming greatest day ever.
Chris will never get old.
Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
Heave, oh heave.
Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
I will say, I don't know how an aunt talks,
but I think adds closer work. Couse boys, don't give up.
Only as good as a man. Besides, you work together.
Speaker 5 (01:15:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
People say they're Jake's which is a young turkey. They're
just stupid teenagers. Yeah, that could be all right. We'll
be back our numbers eight eight eight, the number six
Big Box. We chat with you, America. Your time to
call right after this.
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
Uh, let's continue. Let's go to Keith in the Free
State of Florida. Keith, go ahead contest, they can Slam
Dunk Contest, Slam Dunk Contest, Orlando Magic. We say, yeah,
y'all understood that.
Speaker 9 (01:16:26):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, what's his name?
Speaker 7 (01:16:29):
Mac McClung has won it three years in a row.
Did y'all know there's a white guy dominating the dunk
contest three years?
Speaker 9 (01:16:37):
I was surprised. He plays for the Magic. Here's his
his winning dunk.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
I'm surprised the white guy even in the I know,
I'm surprised.
Speaker 9 (01:16:46):
This is Mac McClung. He has won the last three years.
He won it just this past weekend. Here's his winning dunk.
Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
You don't even like that title jumping over that?
Speaker 9 (01:16:53):
I think that adds to it.
Speaker 7 (01:16:54):
He's jumping over reverse jam over a car, which is
pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
First, that's pretty good.
Speaker 9 (01:17:05):
I wish you would have stuck the landing a little better. Yeah,
the rest of it was good.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
That was good.
Speaker 7 (01:17:08):
He wonted three years in a row. But I didn't
know there was a white guy. I know there was
a honkey owning the All Star Either Slam competition.
Speaker 1 (01:17:14):
Sergey, we're going to hand down a ruling on you.
No texting til March. Also, people keep asking did we
get an update from the guy who went to visit
his girlfriend?
Speaker 8 (01:17:23):
And we did.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
He called earlier in the live show today and he
feels like it went great, that there were no no drama,
no issues. There was a little something that we questioned about.
She had to get the dog put Hey give me
a minute with my dog. Oh, that could have been here.
We got a little diversion buying some time for friendly
Henry to go out the back. But but but he
(01:17:47):
thought it went great, so he said it. There was
no drama. So there's the update, and it was earlier
in the program if you want.
Speaker 4 (01:17:53):
To go catch it.
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
He even got a cookie cake out of it. Yes,
he did sort of uh will in Alabamas, but he
did Will go ahead, Will is a mean you're talking
to me if your name's Will, Yes.
Speaker 8 (01:18:07):
Sir, that's right, Sweet Will.
Speaker 1 (01:18:09):
That's right, hey, sweet Will.
Speaker 8 (01:18:11):
Last Friday, this would have been a lot better on Valentine'sday.
But last Friday I come up with the songs to
sing the Miss Gwynn on Gary's behalf because he couldn't
be there.
Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
Oh, I was very thoughtful, like yeah, sure, go ahead.
Speaker 8 (01:18:25):
Well here it goes leg metal blue, well to coming
little Gwen's eyes, make Mitchell blue like the alabam Ur sky,
like a goblin spring. She came and left, and Gary
still don't know why?
Speaker 3 (01:18:44):
So is he? You?
Speaker 8 (01:18:46):
And whoever holds my eye? Make mitchal blue? Tone? Hey,
one more verse?
Speaker 9 (01:18:52):
Should it?
Speaker 5 (01:18:53):
Right?
Speaker 8 (01:18:53):
In Gayy's line like a good old turkey Tom. He
made her his because he thoughts she was a little bound.
And when he travels to Nashville, like he will, really
his mind is back to Clanton in his late mite
(01:19:14):
blue metabus to come here with mesa.
Speaker 4 (01:19:19):
Okay, all right, really good.
Speaker 1 (01:19:23):
I didn't have la Mitchell didn't have another course in me,
did Joe? It was good? But yeah, good? One last
would have been better to Atlanta the lake Alie standing
by Alie, go ahead.
Speaker 10 (01:19:41):
Hello, Rick, this is Ali from Atlanta. I am the
owner of the restaurant.
Speaker 8 (01:19:46):
To visit it.
Speaker 10 (01:19:47):
I have I want to. I would like for you
to take a quick survey and ate your experience from
quite three just three questions on a scale from one
uh one to five, one being four and five being terrific.
Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
That's pretty good, I will say. I will say question
for four uh four?
Speaker 10 (01:20:14):
Okay, okay, Well, uh there? Did we too much curry?
Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
Yeah? I'm not crazy about curry. Now, my my son
and my wife thought that your cuisine was the best
of our trip, so I will say that they probably
they probably go five.
Speaker 10 (01:20:34):
Okay, all right, And how is your gastro intestinal experiences
the next day?
Speaker 14 (01:20:39):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:20:40):
Now it's five? Still terrific?
Speaker 10 (01:20:48):
Yeah, okay, all right, that's okay, very good. All right.
And final question, do you have Medicare A n B.
Speaker 1 (01:20:55):
Again?
Speaker 9 (01:20:56):
You have Medicare parts A n B?
Speaker 1 (01:20:58):
Youd No, not yet, not yet, but it's coming.
Speaker 10 (01:21:03):
Okay, all right. We'll just to let you know we
are hit for you any times. You know, I run
the restaurant, and on the side, I am also with
here has kept benefits some buckets if ever you need
to shut up any plums for retirement or anything like that.
Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
Be come back Wood, thank you, Ali. Oh my goodness,
let's go to Let's go to Lynn and we tumka Lynn.
Speaker 5 (01:21:30):
Go ahead, Good morning, y'all. Two things I was thinking
them turkeys were dancing around that Harris Gray thinking it
was Kamala Harris thinking, whoa, she didn't win.
Speaker 1 (01:21:42):
That's possible, that's good.
Speaker 5 (01:21:45):
And the other one, you all were talking about paper
riding in the left lane and why why did they
get pissed at you? And you go around and you
know they start shooting birds? Are you talking about them?
Speaker 1 (01:21:59):
Speed up?
Speaker 9 (01:22:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:22:00):
I hate that, Linn. I'm like, you don't know why
we're going around you. I mean, are you trying to
decide if you want to go whatever speed you want
to go. Out's fine, get over to the right. Uh,
let's go to Curtis in Alabama. Lin's mad about it, Curtis,
go ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:22:17):
Yes.
Speaker 14 (01:22:17):
I would like to say this about Valentine's Day. I
mentioned this to a guy in church yesterday. Would you
say Valentine's Day is not a somewhat of a static
relist list, which I didn't. I missed that word up
holiday because it's not in the Bible. And there's not
any angel with the air that is butt naked in
the Bible. There's only three angels is mentioned in the Bible.
(01:22:39):
Is that not correct?
Speaker 5 (01:22:41):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
Well, you do. You could go to the chair of
them though we do say a vision of them and
they do appear to have wings. But you're right the
others know, I mean, yeah, President's Day is not in
the Bible either. No, I don't. I would celebrate well,
the Saint Valentine that the person who existed seemed to
be a pretty good individual and uh has a has
(01:23:03):
a lot of props, and that that did have a
a faith based motivation. He was a Christian that did
a lot of great things. So, uh, but I wouldn't
go if you're gonna pick that one to be sacrilege. Uh,
there's so many others. I think you might make a
better case for. He just don't want to buy that
the first one. First one comes to mind is Halloween.
(01:23:25):
But yeah, that.
Speaker 4 (01:23:28):
That one.
Speaker 1 (01:23:29):
Uh, but uh, you know, I like your angle and
I see what you're trying to do.
Speaker 3 (01:23:34):
There, I got it.
Speaker 8 (01:23:37):
She might.
Speaker 1 (01:23:39):
We'll be back. Thank you for checking in with US America.
More of the Rick Burgess Show to come stay with us.
Speaker 3 (01:23:52):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
An email and you're wanting us to answer it on
the show. You have a question whatever, just put in
the in the you know subject line, Heybird J Burge
b U r G Hey Bird J.
Speaker 3 (01:24:11):
Birge.
Speaker 1 (01:24:12):
Uh So here's a hay bird J. Burge. So this
is from I don't know if he's trying to explain this.
It is his son. Okay, this is from Derek, Heybird, J. Birge.
I was trying to tell my son what a boumont was.
I tried to show him, but I realized now that
the old dictionary from the Rick and Bubba show is
(01:24:34):
is you can't find it. So could you help with
the definition. And as far as we Derek, one thing
you're talking about the recipes, you have that in there too,
the recipes. If you go to Rick Burgessshow dot com
ricks picks, there's the recipes. We've even added some that
we didn't have before.
Speaker 3 (01:24:53):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:24:54):
So they're all they're all right there, and I've got
some more coming. I'm trying to get Gary hey that
fried pile things or something from I'm uh and to
get his fried pies thing.
Speaker 8 (01:25:04):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
People still want the tenderloin thing. And there was another
one that want they all have that. I can't remember
what it was. Uh, but anyway, so breakfast balls.
Speaker 4 (01:25:12):
I've been getting a lot by that.
Speaker 1 (01:25:13):
That might have been the protein balls or the breakfast balls.
Speaker 4 (01:25:15):
And we have the protein balls. That's the breakfast balls, right, Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:25:20):
So whenever you love them, whenever you get all your
your ball recipes, just let us know protein. So boomont
the Boomont if you want to look for the definition.
Speaker 4 (01:25:31):
Of boomont Rick. Now, I want you to be careful here.
Speaker 1 (01:25:33):
And what's wrong with this? You understand I'm not gonna
be This is not this is nothing.
Speaker 9 (01:25:37):
We used to have.
Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
It we told talk about all the time, I know,
just in describing it and and it kind of it
came from Greg and I. You know, we all experienced this.
But it seems to trans to transcend any any neighborhood.
This is Boumont is the kid in the neighborhood. He
always has a crew cut, no matter what's in style.
Speaker 5 (01:25:57):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:25:57):
He went through puberty before anybody. He went through puberty.
Always had a little bit of bump about him.
Speaker 3 (01:26:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:26:04):
Not not overly clean because he's always sweating because he
plays so hard and he as strong as an ox
as we just said, didn't realize it, doesn't realize it
plays way too rough. Every time he's brought into something
in the backy already hurt. Somebody, don't let him hold
a kitty. No, all right, I wouldn't. I wasn't going
that far. Don't do it.
Speaker 4 (01:26:26):
Yeah, And he has no what my boys would say,
he has no feel. In other words, he can't he
can't read the room.
Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
No, you know, liable to say anything. Yeah, it's not
just physical. And let me tell you something. If you're
gonna put together football game, get he's gonna get a penalty. Okay,
you're gonna it's gonna be right, and be careful now,
crash the boards in the bake, yes he will, he will,
And be careful now wrestling him. You don't want any
(01:26:52):
part of that. No, okay, it's like a vice grip. Okay, no, no,
that's you have to go there. What I'm gonna say
is he's not gonna be the class of battlectory. I
was just gonna leave it there.
Speaker 10 (01:27:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:27:08):
And and he's gonna play way too rough, and he's
gonna he's just no matter you may think you know,
I mean, well right, like you're gonna find out no
matter how many times you say in football, no kicking,
it's not gonna matter. Okay, no, no, yeah, And don't
matter how long ago you released the ball. Two hands tag,
two hands tag means nothing. You don't even play the
(01:27:31):
two hen tag thing.
Speaker 5 (01:27:33):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:27:34):
You don't ask him to count the five Miss Sydney
for the rude.
Speaker 1 (01:27:37):
He don't count very good. And by the way, if
you got him, if you got a bicycle, he's gonna
break it. Yeah, yeah, he's gonna try to jump around, right,
he's gonna break it on the front. And if you
got something you real life for Christmas, do not let
him play with it. Did not, he'll either steal it
from your break not.
Speaker 10 (01:27:54):
Do not do that.
Speaker 1 (01:27:59):
Look, look they say no to fireworks. Do not do
not give him fire crackers. Don't get him rocks because
the window ain't got a chance. No it hadn't. He
let me tell you. And he'll throw a rock at
somebody so hard. And I mean, you don't want him
any part of that. You don't want him in a
pine comb battle the green one you put him, you
put him in a pine com battle. Somebody's going to
(01:28:20):
the doctor. Somebody's going to the doctor. He's gonna take
that green one and he's gonna throw it at somebody
with about a half a foot. He's gonna throw it
as hard as he can. And you didn't realize that
it could stick into people. And his head's like an anvil.
It's like his head is made out of steel. But
I mean, if his head ever hits you in the mouth,
he'll break to you. But you could trick him and
(01:28:41):
eating a green for simmon though, Yes you could everything,
Yes you could. And he's pretty much up for anything
if you pay him.
Speaker 5 (01:28:48):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:28:50):
Hey, let me tell you. If the woods were on fire,
look at him first. Ye, he may have started. He
may have started on purpose. So that's that's Boumont and
and most neighborhoods have a boom mountain. And we we
use that name, Yeah, we we and and there, and
he's so far ahead everybody on puberty. It's incredible shaven, Yeah,
it's nobody else even even a hair on the Not
(01:29:12):
a lot of variety to his clothing. No, and it's use.
It doesn't match a lot. Yeah, and he'll go all
day in the T shirt. Yes, I'm about the white
one that's dirty collar stretch becau. Everybody's trying get him
off of him. He's not afraid to show up two
days in a row with the same dirty shirt. No,
he's not there.
Speaker 9 (01:29:31):
The shirt hang and be careful what you make fun
of them for. Oh yeah, there's certain things will be
okay with it, and you'll say the wrong thing, and.
Speaker 1 (01:29:39):
You know, we get some normally a mama joke, oh yeah,
or intelligence. Oh wow, he can't figure. Did you learn
did you learn that the hard one?
Speaker 9 (01:29:50):
Yes, somebody picks up his stick and they're the boom
on in the neighborhood. They're going to use it.
Speaker 1 (01:29:55):
Oh, yes, they are, especially if you're it's kind of
like that hippo. There's no charge from boomot. Listen, if
you get him to the point where where tears and
he gets and he gets a spitting I call it
a hit and cry crying. Yeah, if he's got to
(01:30:17):
end up talking off leg Oh yeah. Now, if you
if you came home town, we really like him.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
If you pick him from your football team, if you
can just contain him, he can make a difference. He
can he can he's gonna run between the time, Yes
he is, and boy he'll come off at head. But
now he's gonna he's gonna hurt somebody that that's the
only problem.
Speaker 4 (01:30:36):
Every game.
Speaker 1 (01:30:37):
He just usually the kid that had no business out there. Yeah,
you try to let somebody play for the first time.
Everybody's going easy on him. Boom hits him as hard
as he can. Again, he has no kill every say,
every single time. Let's let it run the ball, come on,
Boom on top of the hour.
Speaker 3 (01:31:01):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:31:09):
We were discussing the definition of Boumont, the kid that
lived in every neighborhood. Apparently because a lot of you
are adding things that we forgot. Yes, most Boumonts for
some reason, We're not sure why. Wearing some sort of
army jacket that's a little small. Yeah, and it never fails.
We'll invite himself to spend the night with you, and
that always goes poorly. Yeah, you really don't want him to,
(01:31:31):
but he invites us out. He can't tell him always
tears something up in the house. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah,
so it's it's it's official. A lot of you actually
know exactly what we were talking about Greg. We all
grew up similar. It seems like at least a lot
of you.
Speaker 7 (01:31:46):
Anyway, he's going to claim he knows how to ride
a dirt bike. He's gonna get on the dirt bike.
He's gonna wreck it.
Speaker 1 (01:31:50):
Yeah, yeah, I know how to write it. That's a
stupid that's one thousand percent true.
Speaker 7 (01:31:57):
It is.
Speaker 1 (01:31:57):
Don't let him anywhere near anything like that. You read
the mini bite, sure I have. Do you remember the
mini bike whatever? Havel to the mini bike have many gears.
It was just a pull crank motor. Did he go
the way the three wheeler too dangerous?
Speaker 4 (01:32:10):
You know three rulers that three wheelers are coming back.
I've seen a lot of Are you serious?
Speaker 8 (01:32:14):
Yes?
Speaker 9 (01:32:16):
Greg had neck braces are coming back to then?
Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
I guess yeah, thank you Adler.
Speaker 4 (01:32:21):
All right, So looking at some Nate from Oklahoma. His
son collects and build them, rebuild them in.
Speaker 1 (01:32:26):
What an obscure fact? I did not know that him
fit in the trunk of a car. Yeah, taking it
all apart, cramming it in there. Oh really does he
didn't do a pencil drawing of it? He could Okay,
So let's some other stories out there today. So Bill Maher,
which is always an interesting case to don't.
Speaker 4 (01:32:46):
Know what to do.
Speaker 1 (01:32:47):
Yeah, so Kid Rock, you know, fresh off storming off
the stage. Uh, the News birthday was at where he
was there the keyboard play for Mine Jones. Yeah, David
bran right, and he got macOS. Nobody would clapp with
him on Proud Mary of all Things, and not just
like for applause. He wanted him to clap along the song.
Speaker 4 (01:33:07):
A lot of people don't want to know, they want
to listen.
Speaker 1 (01:33:10):
Bill Maher has has started discovering that the left has
gone so far that now he even doesn't want to
seem stupid. But I agreeing with some of the things.
But Kid Rock apparently was on his show and and
has a surprising take on how you get along with
Democrats or I guess how.
Speaker 10 (01:33:25):
He does, Yes, how he does.
Speaker 9 (01:33:26):
And he's being serious. There's one little quick part I
will edit on the fly. Oh will you.
Speaker 1 (01:33:33):
Come on? You gotta tell you? Yeah, I know, but
I'm talking about is he gonna will will he? Will
you pull it off?
Speaker 8 (01:33:38):
Nail it?
Speaker 9 (01:33:38):
Okay, nailing it here.
Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
I'm the I'm the bringing people together part.
Speaker 12 (01:33:42):
I mean you have a song called my kind of Country,
My kind of country has room for Trump and a JFK.
Speaker 4 (01:33:49):
That's the first line, right.
Speaker 9 (01:33:51):
Had I known it would have said an RFK.
Speaker 12 (01:33:56):
Is that the last Democrat you liked.
Speaker 3 (01:34:00):
My whole business is Democrats, I mean, so to speak,
not my whole business.
Speaker 8 (01:34:03):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:34:04):
I live in Nashville now, but that's that's the world
I've operated for for years and years.
Speaker 1 (01:34:08):
I mean, half my bands, you know, liberal, gay, or
black or this like, you know what it's like. We
have one of the most diverse bands out there, not
because of any of this, because they're the best.
Speaker 4 (01:34:18):
At what they do.
Speaker 3 (01:34:19):
We all love each other, get along.
Speaker 12 (01:34:23):
Thank you, right, And I mean we played the inauguration
that was didn't Nellie and Snoop play that too?
Speaker 8 (01:34:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:34:32):
I believe they did. And remember I also played Barack
Obama's in auguration. Oh I didn't remember that.
Speaker 4 (01:34:38):
Mmm.
Speaker 9 (01:34:39):
I thought that was a great point.
Speaker 7 (01:34:40):
Hey, I get along with all these people. It doesn't
everybody needs to calm down a little bit, is how
he ended it. He didn't use those exact words, right,
but he said, my band's diverse because we're all great.
We're all great performers, not because of any of this
d DEI stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:34:54):
Yeah, he said that my DEI had nothing to do
with the band is the thing that we have been
saying all the way back on the years of the
Rick and Bubba Show and continue to say. Now. This
notion that somehow you have to compromise excellence in order
to have diversity is just based on ignorance. He says,
(01:35:15):
my band turned out to be diverse, but what was
he looking for the best and it just turned out
to be diverse because guess what, people of all ethnicities
and all belief systems are extremely good at what they do,
and why don't we go with we want the best
of the best. I promise you it'll still be quite diverse.
(01:35:35):
And the notion that that's not going to happen unless
we lower the standard, I hope we all can join
together and go you know what, that's quite offensive. Yeah,
And he said, I just went for the best band
I could find and it ended up being a diverse
group of people. But the goal was not diversity. The
goal was a great band. They just happened to turn
(01:35:58):
out to be diverse.
Speaker 7 (01:35:59):
He's also launched his own rodeo, Kid Rocks Rock and
Roll Rodeo, and it actually has I guess you'd call
it co ed teams because I didn't know this, But
evidently women are the best barrel racers, correct.
Speaker 9 (01:36:17):
And they have the fastest times. It makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:36:20):
And there's no such thing as me and barrel racing,
is there? Yeah?
Speaker 9 (01:36:23):
I don't, And now that I think I grew up
going to the rodeo, But now that I think about it,
I think there is. I don't guess I ever did.
Speaker 1 (01:36:29):
See the men just not want to go around the barrels.
Speaker 7 (01:36:31):
I mean maybe just the women are better at it,
so they let them do it. I don't know, that's
a great point. I just remember seeing barrel racing as
a kid all the time. Kid Rock mentions, you know
the women are on these co ed Rock and Roll
rodeo teams that we have. They face off, and it's
not because we're trying to do it because of DEI.
We're doing it because the women are the best at
barrel racing.
Speaker 1 (01:36:52):
Correct.
Speaker 9 (01:36:52):
Bill Maher then goes what's barrel racing?
Speaker 7 (01:36:55):
And Kid Rock to the entire audience goes, y'all know
what barrel racing is, right, and the entire audience goes yes.
Speaker 9 (01:37:01):
So in that moment, Bill Maher realizes he's the least
in touch person in the room. So that was another
nice moment from that interview.
Speaker 1 (01:37:08):
Yeah, so so there you go, and some people are
any y'all that know more about rodeo? Is there search?
Is there such thing as a male competition for barrel
racing at all? I may see some show up that
I've never seen men do it.
Speaker 9 (01:37:23):
Men do it. It's just like I think the women
are just.
Speaker 1 (01:37:25):
Faster I've never seen. So are you saying if I'm
a rodeo person, I know this is about to get
me in trouble. Oh boy, and it'll bother me. Like
Jerry said, I may not sleep more than nine hours
or not.
Speaker 9 (01:37:37):
But the.
Speaker 10 (01:37:40):
The does it?
Speaker 1 (01:37:43):
Is it kind of like basketball? Yes, there's a women's
version of it, but once you see men play it,
you know it wouldn't be as popular, is it? Like,
once you've seen women barrel race, you really are not
all that fired up by seeing men do it because
they're not as good.
Speaker 3 (01:37:59):
Well that killing gentlemen morning.
Speaker 9 (01:38:01):
What Kid Rock was saying on this interview is that
women have faster times than me.
Speaker 1 (01:38:05):
It's rare. Someone says it's rare, but yes, men do
barrel race and they said they think there's even been
one where we live. So I don't know. So, uh,
what is that deal? When they make the horse take
off and then it looks like he's slamming the brakes on.
Speaker 9 (01:38:20):
Oh, it's so good. Roping horse half roping.
Speaker 1 (01:38:25):
No, that's not I'm the horse that pulls out just
like he's slamming his brake z on. That's calf roping
than anyone telling me. But they do that in caf rope.
But he says, all you do is make the horse
yellowstone the show. But I've never seen it. And they'll
they'll spend a circle too while.
Speaker 3 (01:38:41):
They're on it.
Speaker 1 (01:38:42):
I have no idea what you're doing raining competition? Maybe
I don't know. I speak, Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 9 (01:38:46):
Know horse dancing.
Speaker 1 (01:38:47):
People are saying it's a sliding stop you're talking about.
Speaker 4 (01:38:51):
That's what that is. Raining competition.
Speaker 1 (01:38:52):
Raining, that's what. Yeah, that's what it looks like. You're
raining the horse in.
Speaker 9 (01:38:56):
We didn't do that at the San Antonio Stocks rodeo.
Speaker 1 (01:38:58):
Yeah, now you were riding those little were I was.
Speaker 9 (01:39:02):
I was riding his sheep.
Speaker 3 (01:39:04):
Sheep is hilarious. This is the Rick Burgess show.
Speaker 1 (01:39:14):
Adler. You know, it's kind of prides himself on being
our sports guy. And uh, he he's a big Auburn fan.
He graduated from Auburn. Uh, you know the rest of us,
you know, we we all actually played basketball for or
he did play basketball for Auburn. A lot of people
don't remember this. And at that time he used the
name uh if I remember right, I can't remember. It
(01:39:36):
was a it was the Mosquito or something like that. Yeah,
are a lot of people know. He actually went by
Chuck Persons. But anyway, so I.
Speaker 9 (01:39:47):
Was the stunt double for Muggsy Bugs in the movie
Space Jam.
Speaker 1 (01:39:49):
You are yeah, so you you this is this is
you know, number one versus number two, which is probably
the bigger story here because I know, when you get
like this about your team, you know, not everybody lives
in this state, you know, with the audience is vast
all over. There's a lot of people that don't care
about this as much as you do. But if they're
(01:40:10):
basketball fans, they care about number one versus number two
absolutely because that's big no matter who's playing.
Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
And this was the first time two SEC teams number
one and number two face each other, and definitely ever
and definitely the first for Auburn and out and these
two not recent history, but over over time, these two
for a long time were only known for their football programs,
not known so much for their basketball programs.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
But that for both schools is starting to well. For Auburn,
it's definitely changed, and it's changing for Alabama as well.
But so number one versus number two in state rivals
that that's intriguing.
Speaker 5 (01:40:47):
Uh uh.
Speaker 1 (01:40:48):
And you you have some of the highlights, won't you
run it down for us outa what happened?
Speaker 7 (01:40:52):
I do, And I'm not gonna let the fact that
I went to Auburn impact how I report.
Speaker 1 (01:40:57):
On this stood, I will be unbussed.
Speaker 9 (01:41:00):
I'll be like CNN, straight down the middle of the road.
Speaker 1 (01:41:05):
Okay, you guys, you report, they decide.
Speaker 7 (01:41:08):
That's right, that's right, fair and balance, Fox News. So basketball,
it used to not be as big a deal at
these two schools. It is now a huge deal. Kids
are camping out overnight for games like the Florida game
in Auburn and then this game in Tuscaloosa. In Tuscalousa,
kids are are lined up intent. So they had to
(01:41:32):
get all the homeless people out of there. And they
put in the students the drag You report, you report,
and then they the students were actually camping out for
this game. One of the bigger interactions that occurred during
this game was when.
Speaker 1 (01:41:47):
What are you talking about that?
Speaker 7 (01:41:48):
Okay, we had Auburn's Chad Baker Mazara, he had a
brief in brief exchange. Things got a little bit chippy
with some people in the crowd.
Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
Actually, I think this is a big miscommunicate. I think
he thought one thing and well, anyway you'll say, yeah,
you can see here.
Speaker 5 (01:42:03):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:42:03):
The the Auburn player goes into the stands, gets kind
of pushed by some Alabama fans, and this woman right
here in black is very upset.
Speaker 9 (01:42:14):
She obviously does not have custom of her children.
Speaker 1 (01:42:19):
They decide she has a drinking He turned around.
Speaker 9 (01:42:22):
She's a terrible driver, and she got mad at the
Auburn play.
Speaker 1 (01:42:25):
So this guy right here pushes him, yes, like pushes.
The player can't see that. So he turns around and
accuses her, why are you pushing on me? And she says,
I didn't push you. Somebody down the line did.
Speaker 7 (01:42:39):
Pink Frat Daddy comes out and it gives an extra
little push and.
Speaker 4 (01:42:43):
She felt like she was wrongly accused of pushing.
Speaker 7 (01:42:46):
And she doesn't have custom of her children. She's angry,
but nobody that's just an assumption on my part.
Speaker 1 (01:42:51):
It is, so you report they.
Speaker 9 (01:42:53):
Think I'm safe, assuming.
Speaker 1 (01:42:55):
That you're not on the middle.
Speaker 7 (01:42:58):
On the very next play, the same player, Chad Baker
Mazara then blocks a shot and it goes into that
same section and it hits that lady.
Speaker 9 (01:43:09):
She's like, hey, it's the same guy.
Speaker 7 (01:43:16):
She's like, I'm definitely gonna cut somebody off in my
Lexus SUV on the way home for that.
Speaker 1 (01:43:22):
You don't know she made down the middle. She got
accused of pushing. Now, well, I guess she thinks he's
trying to slap the ball toward her about her.
Speaker 9 (01:43:30):
Yeah, he's an Auburn Tiger, gracious boom.
Speaker 4 (01:43:36):
By the way, his head is halfway up the net,
he's so high off the ground.
Speaker 9 (01:43:40):
She goes, hey, it's the same guy.
Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
Okay, that's it. He's trying to okay.
Speaker 5 (01:43:47):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:43:47):
At one point, the Alabama head coach did have to
tell the fantasy stop throwing stuff on the field, on
the on the court and.
Speaker 1 (01:43:54):
What was this about? This is bad call or something
off oh, sure, trying to win the basketball game. We
don't get you guys cost us. Yeah, coach gets the
head he goes and gets the headset from the I
(01:44:15):
guess they're in. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:44:16):
I think the referees went to him, said buddy, you're
about to, you know, get the technical or something.
Speaker 1 (01:44:21):
It makes a great point. We're trying to win this
basketball game. Please y'all don't make it.
Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
Harder on us.
Speaker 7 (01:44:26):
I said, I know this is a garbage town filled
with garbage. People do not throw garbage on the court,
is what he said. Right after that clip.
Speaker 1 (01:44:32):
Adler down the middle. You're letting You're decided, you're letting
your your You know this rivalry. People get real upset
about it.
Speaker 9 (01:44:39):
I'm kidding around my brother. No fam fan my brother.
Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
But nobody's gonna hear that. Nobody's gonna hear that.
Speaker 11 (01:44:45):
Are you?
Speaker 1 (01:44:45):
Are you honestly trying to weigh into the world of
these two schools, and and you think you can reason
with either fan base.
Speaker 11 (01:44:52):
You can't.
Speaker 9 (01:44:53):
Y'all been spanking us in in football for five years.
Give me one minute.
Speaker 4 (01:44:59):
That's that's real.
Speaker 7 (01:45:00):
At the end of the game, Auburn once again exhibited
far superior class and the what's his name that actually
played for Auburn last year now plays for Alabama, Aiden Halloway.
Speaker 9 (01:45:16):
He went through the entire Auburn team and gave him hugs.
Speaker 4 (01:45:18):
Can I say this and this, this is a true
fact here of how the players see the game and
how fandom sees the game. These guys, they're like, man,
how you being whatever?
Speaker 7 (01:45:28):
They're like, yeah, they're hogging it out because because class they.
Speaker 1 (01:45:36):
Lost, they wouldn't be the heavy. Well the again, you
hit it speed, especially during the World of n I
l more than ever. Now it's the fans can't get along,
but players seem to.
Speaker 4 (01:45:48):
Yeah, they get it. I mean they they're competing and
want to win, but it's over and they get it.
Speaker 1 (01:45:53):
Yeah, And that their people are texting saying that the
person that you're joking around about is actually the CEO
of a very major up.
Speaker 4 (01:46:00):
I thought you're gonna I thought you were gonna say no,
I wouldn't say.
Speaker 1 (01:46:04):
So, but but anyway, that's all right, you're just joking around.
Speaker 9 (01:46:08):
I'm kidding around. We can make jokes as America.
Speaker 1 (01:46:11):
Okay, do you remember back when that used to be true?
I'm not sure, but we seemed to forge your head.
Speaker 7 (01:46:16):
Anyway, we did roll Tumor's corner, which, hey, that's kind
of goofy. That's a goofy tradition. Look look at me,
so I can make fun of both sides.
Speaker 1 (01:46:25):
They had a lot of paper from football season this
year exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:46:28):
So we were all the way back from Huntsville, uh,
and we're listening to it and it sounded like a
really good game up to tour, you know, to the end,
and he was back and forth. I think Alabama tied it.
At one point. The place was going crazy, and I
think that's when people start throwing stuff on the court.
Uh and and then and then Auburn seemed to respond
most of the time, and then they did.
Speaker 9 (01:46:48):
At the end, we rose, we rose up.
Speaker 4 (01:46:52):
They said the ticket prices for that were pretty expensive.
But the end, at the last game of the year,
they're they're saying, the ticket price is for an Auburn
or like through the roof for those two And Alabama,
I was listing, has quite a run of top twenty
opponents here the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 9 (01:47:09):
But yeah, Auburn, Alabama will run it back at the
end of the season.
Speaker 1 (01:47:12):
And well, let me tell you what happens. But I
think a lot of people knew that Auburn's basketball team
was going to be good this year when they fought
each other on a plane. Yeah, and they had to
turn the playing around to come back. Everybody knew then
that was gonna be a pretty good team. It's interesting
to watch. Did you notice this. Greg Adlers are expert
on college basketball? Yeah, right down the middle of the road,
no bias whatsoever. And Speedy has all the information on
(01:47:33):
ticket prices. Does that surprise you. I had lunch, No, no, no,
he's thinking there's.
Speaker 4 (01:47:40):
I had lunch the other day with someone that is
an avid Auburn fan, and he was talking about the
ticket prices that like the average price was like six
hundred and fifty bucks for the Auburn game, you know,
the last game of the season. That's the only way
reason I know, checking checked.
Speaker 1 (01:47:56):
He didn't hardly miss a game. You could have gone
up since then or what ever, but that's what it was.
Speaker 8 (01:48:01):
Adder.
Speaker 1 (01:48:02):
You're just made a six year old Bama fan cry.
Speaker 9 (01:48:05):
According to a parent, Oh wow, I didn't mean to
do that.
Speaker 1 (01:48:08):
You know, this feels kind of good. It feels like
taking up kid, It feels like the anger that has
been directed at me for the last six weeks.
Speaker 12 (01:48:14):
Now on you.
Speaker 9 (01:48:14):
Yeah, sorry, So I was a joke. Like I said,
my brother's an Alabama fan. Okay, I love you.
Speaker 1 (01:48:21):
Adler at Rick Burgessshow dot com. Sorry, Adler at Rick
burgesshow dot com.
Speaker 9 (01:48:25):
It's all jokes. Our football team sucks. Make fun of that.
I don't care.
Speaker 1 (01:48:30):
Yeah, well it was a great report. You gave us
all the facts.
Speaker 8 (01:48:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:48:33):
I'm just trying right down the middle of the road,
baron balance. That's right, he reports, you decide. All right,
So we'll be back more of the show. We're almost
wrapping up another date again. Man, they go by quick,
don't they. Yeah, this is what happens when you're having fun.
We'll be right back. Stay close.
Speaker 3 (01:48:54):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 8 (01:49:01):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:49:02):
Here's a couple of things we didn't get to today.
We know how inspiring Kamala Harris can be. Uh, and
so apparently she was going to try to inspire the
cast of Louis Armstrong, the musical that is on Broadway.
Speaker 4 (01:49:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:49:17):
I don't know what.
Speaker 1 (01:49:18):
I don't know who calls Kamala in for this. I'll
tell you what.
Speaker 10 (01:49:20):
We need.
Speaker 1 (01:49:21):
The Louis Armstrong cast motivated. Somebody bring in Kamala if
you follow this, what on her resume ever? Said inspirational speaker.
Motivational speaker, So here is Kamala trying to inspire the
cast of Louis Armstrong the musical on Broadway.
Speaker 9 (01:49:39):
For those rights to be maintained, which means we have
to be vigilant.
Speaker 7 (01:49:43):
And it's just the nature of it.
Speaker 4 (01:49:45):
I mean what I mean in this beautiful play and
everything that we.
Speaker 11 (01:49:49):
Know him and that he was suppressing.
Speaker 1 (01:49:50):
He had to suppress so much.
Speaker 11 (01:49:53):
But who you know, you took those risks.
Speaker 4 (01:49:55):
But we have to.
Speaker 14 (01:49:56):
We have to pick a clear eye.
Speaker 4 (01:49:58):
And it doesn't mean we don't see the few and
everything right, the coexist, but I believe we fight for something,
not against them.
Speaker 5 (01:50:12):
And that's where.
Speaker 1 (01:50:18):
She just knocked it out of the park. Did you
see her face? Did you make no sense? I felt
so bad for the cast because they were looking for
anything to be and they were pulling for man, they
were pulling for Okay, it's been a rough day for you.
Speaker 4 (01:50:32):
Now, I just thinking about how lucky lucky the country got.
Speaker 1 (01:50:36):
Yes, well, that's like when she gets to do this,
we have to be vigilant.
Speaker 9 (01:50:46):
We have to be and we can't forget the beauty.
Speaker 5 (01:50:49):
You can't.
Speaker 9 (01:50:51):
We must press on.
Speaker 1 (01:50:52):
Yeah, well we're fighting. We were fighting for something, not against,
and you know that that was probably the closest she
was in that to make a point, you know, and
so it.
Speaker 9 (01:51:01):
Was an empty platitude.
Speaker 1 (01:51:02):
But still well now she's the king of that.
Speaker 3 (01:51:05):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:51:07):
A sleep specialist is now backing RFK Junior's movement to
change school start times in America. So a Sleep Expert
is part of the Make America Healthy Again movement and
he says that we need to change the hours that
(01:51:29):
high school kids are not able to be sharp and
focused and learn. It doesn't matter how good the schools
are are, the teachers are, the reputation. Kids are exhausted
in school and we need to change the day. Maybe
change now. I know a lot of parents are thinking,
just when I figured out how to get my kids
to school at home, y'all gonna change it again?
Speaker 5 (01:51:51):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:51:52):
It says we need to get the kids an opportunity
to get nine hours of sleep, which is impossible right now. Well, Rick,
they're going to play video games at least three hours. Well, no,
that's true, So let's don't get into that is, he saying,
because of the demand on them once they get home
and then the time we want them to get back.
(01:52:12):
I guess I'm trying to figure out if you need
nine hours of sleep, don't you just go to bed
nine hours for you?
Speaker 3 (01:52:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:52:18):
He says that school should start no earlier than eight
thirty am for high schools and eight am for middle schools.
Are we starting earlier than that?
Speaker 4 (01:52:27):
It's in the seventh I think, is it okay?
Speaker 1 (01:52:30):
All right?
Speaker 9 (01:52:30):
Well that's been queen seven thirty and eights a lot
of them.
Speaker 1 (01:52:35):
I think, yeah, okay, So he's really only talking about
an hour right here, so big decision. But he's in.
Speaker 9 (01:52:41):
If he's officially in, I don't know if we ever
mentioned that. And Tulsi's officially in teen Oh yeah, that's true.
