presented by the Ring Magazine, and yes, I'm in Las Vegas.
I can look out my window right there and see
the Not sure what the hotel is, but it's a
nice one. And of course we are here because of
the high stakes. Ryan Garcia Mario Barrios Ring Magazine car
this weekend. Yep, I went and got the head shaved.

I'm feeling like it's a new beginning for me and
the winner of this fight's gonna have a new beginning
for their career because for Mario Barrios, the last two
fights have been draws. And I'm not talking about ass.
I mean, he is not won the last two fights
he's had as a world champion. I don't even know
how that's possible, but it is. He's had two straight
draws and he's looking to start anew with this Ryan

Garcia fight. A way to get him big, massive fights
at one hundred and forty seven pounds, and for Ryan Garcia,
it's a world title shot. It's one where he still
has to make the weight as of the recording of
this video, but this will be the second official title
shot of Ryan Garcia's career. The first he loses a
Roly Romero. Now he has Mario Barrios, and I am
noticing something between these two that I think is the

key element in who I am picking the wins. So
let's talk about it. My final thoughts, my final prediction
on who wins, Ryan Garcia versus Mario Barrios, the breakdown.
Let's go all right, So Number one, they had the
press conference today for Ryan and Mario, and I was
there in person, and the vibe was very toned down.

There wasn't a lot of back and forth between Ryan
or Mario, or even Ryan and Joe Goosen as former coach.
There didn't seem to be a lot of animosity. There
didn't seem to be a lot of energy, I'll be
honest from either guy. I think part of that is
because they are both cutting a lot of weight. Mario
Barrios is a huge one and forty seven pounds huge
(01:44):
as far as his height, his size. I think he
said he started his career at one hundred and twenty
two pounds, which is insane. Ryan Garcia, it felt like
two years ago, was you know a little bit too
big for one hundred and thirty five pounds, especially with
the rehydration, you know, the Tank Davis fight. But he
was moving up and wait, but now I'm gonna be honest.
Now it looks like he's having trouble making one hundred
and forty seven pounds and so on the stage today,

and as you guys, we'll take a look at the
face off here. But on the states today they were
very quiet, very reserved. But I noticed something during their
face to face and here it was. First off, let's
check the feet, all right, just just to confirm. I
had some suspicions here. Mario Barrios is huge and he's

towering over Ryan Garcia. I checked the feet because I'm
looking for lifts. Does he have any sort of lift
in the shoe? I don't see it, just a regular Uh,
this has gotta be a Jordan, right, I don't know shoes.
This is the Jordan. Ryan's got his shoes on. Cool,
but it might be angles. But I'm looking at that
and I'm like, man, Ryan's at a pretty hefty height

and reach disadvantage here. Now again, what would this mean
in terms of like how the fight plays out. I
don't know. Ryan Garcia definitely has been the taller guy
in most fights, I mean the Luke Campbell fight, maybe not,
but he's been the taller guy for the most part.
And we're talking about, you know, from one hundred and
thirty five pounds to one forty seven. Now it's a
big jump, it is, and Ryan even is looking big
for that weight class. Right look at him, he looks
like he's kind of sucked down. Barrio's got the hoodie
(03:10):
on so he can't really see it, and he's already
kind of a lanky guy, so it probably isn't gonna,
you know, look too crazy, different from from Brios, but
both guys obviously look locked in. Both guys look ready
to go. Joe Goosen, I don't know if he's wearing
that jacket or that jacket's wearing him goodness, no shirt underneath.
It is crazy, Joe, But I see in this moment,
assize this event for Ryan Garcia. And let's talk about

why this fight could be a major problem for Ryan
Garcia and not saying that it is, and we'll get
to you know what I think about the matchup in
a second. Ryan has put every single thing into this
training camp. Ryan has not taken short from what we
hear he hasn't taken shortcuts, he has n't been drinking,
he has n't been goofing off. He doesn't have a
team necessarily, and he's not the same team he's back
with his dad, and the team they've surrounded him with
(03:54):
is not like a you know, uh, at least not
from what I've heard, a official you know, boxing coach. Whatever.
It's his dad, and his dad did lead him to
fifteen and zero before they you know, brought in Joe Goosen,
and they brought in Eddie Renozo and you know, Derek
James and all those guys. But Ryan is locked in
at least this is what we're hearing from him. There
is no party and no drinking, no substance abuse, however
(04:15):
you want to take that. And so if he does
have this mentality that this is what he needs to do,
what happens if that gets broken right? What happens if
he does question himself when he's in there, If he
does not have the success that he wants to have
early on, and then the snowball starts to roll downhill.
Because when you look at this matchup, Mario Barrios is
a great fundamental boxer. He's not maybe the most skilled boxer,
(04:36):
and he doesn't maybe have the best defensive decision making
As a world champion, he gets hit with a lot
of punches and he will bite down on the mouthpiece
and go at you. But he has good fundamental punching right,
He has good hand placement, He does things correctly, and
he's a world champion for a reason. He knows how
to win fights. Now, if Ryan isn't able to and
you go back to the Rely fight and you're gonna say, Okay,
(04:58):
what Ryan really showed up in the Rely fight? Do
we know he's going to be that same guy or
we're going to see the killer that Ryan was before
that Roly shut down the lead hand of Ryan Gars
and when he did that, Ryan didn't have much else
to go to. I've said for years now that I
think Ryan should develop his right hand more, and he's
hurting guys with his right hand before. But it isn't
that lethal weapon right that you think about when Ryan throws.
You imagine if you thought Ryan was going to throw
(05:22):
the left hand, but he also had a lethal right hand.
Now you got to make a decision on what you
want to get hit with. Right Now, everybody knows that
Ryan wants to hit you with the lead hook. Everybody knows,
and so if he doesn't hit you with the lead hook,
you can make do with him hitting you with the
right hand, or you know, letting go his back hand,
because the lead hook is where all the problems starts.
So if Ryan is able to develop a right hand here,
things can be different. But that's the danger here for
Ryan Garcia. You don't get him out early, your confidence
(05:43):
starts to wane and shake, and Barrio starts putting a
performance together that's better than his last two fights, or
he comes in looking way better than his last two fights.
If you look at the way he looked against back Hew,
the way he gets looked against Abel Ramos, Ryan Garcia
should knock out Mario Barrios inside of five rounds, five
or six round this. Barrios is not gonna come in
that way. I don't think I don't see we're going
I don't think we're gonna see a super hesitant Mario Barrios.

I think he's gonna get straight to work and try
to get into Ryan pause. I think he's gonna step
straight to him and see what Ryan has problem is.
That's kind of what Ryan likes for you to do.
He kind of likes for you to lead the exchange,
and then he's gonna throw his left hook in between.
So let's talk about that side of things. Ryan Garcia
is a great offensive CounterPunch. I mean, he'll lead the
dance right, he'll throw his jab out there, sting you
(06:27):
with the right hand. But it's all window dressings. It
gets you to fire back. And when you do fire back,
whether it's with a right hand lead which I think
if Mario Barrios tries to lead exchanges with his right hand,
whether it's downstairs or upstairs, consistently, he's going to get
knocked out with the left hook. I know that's not
you know, me being no stra damis, But you have
to put your jab in Ryan's face or to his
body to set up what you want to go to,
(06:49):
and especially your own lead hand. That's where Ryan is
most vulnerable. His best attack is also where he's most vulnerable.
He gets hit with more left hooks than any other punch.
So the body end upstairs now again mostly off pause
and caught him with that, but Roley just caught him
with one. So both these guys can be hit. Both
guys susceptible to being knocked down and knocked out or
stopped whatever. But what Ryan does so well is make

you fight the way he wants to win. He is offensive, right,
you go back to the Devin Haney fight. Somehow he
got Devin Haney. It was maybe the emotional play, but
he got Devin Haney to stay with him in the
pocket and try to throw timing for timing, speed for speed,
accuracy for accuracy, and Ryan clipped him with the left
hook and it was early, and it was a tone setter,
and it changed the fight. I could see something very
similar happening here. I could see Mario Barrio's trying to

stick it on Ryan, show him I'm the champion. I'm
gonna come walk straight at you, hit you with the jab,
hit you with the lead hand, and try And Barrios
has been saying this, try to get you to think
in there, think and you know, play mind games with
yourself and start to doubt yourself. That's what Brios wants
to do. But something that was interesting in this press conference.
I don't know if you guys heard it, and really
throughout this whole camp, you know, Barrios is not a

big talker, and either is Joe Goosen. And Ryan has
been talking his stuff, and you know, he's been doing
a lot of the promo, a lot of the heavy
lifting for this promo. But one thing at the press
conference today, I only heard Joe Goosen kind of slightly
say that Barrios was gonna win. I know, again, you
shouldn't have to have your coach being out there. We're
gonna knock this guy out. We're gonna take it, you know,
(08:16):
take his soul, take his heart, We're gonna But it
didn't inspire confidence the way. I don't know. Maybe it
was just me, but I didn't when when Joe Goosen
was talking about Mario Barrios, he was saying all the
right stuff. You know, Barrios has been a model fighter
in the camp. He has exceeded expectations. But when it
came down to Chris Mannix asking Joe out was gonna go,
He's like, well, I bet all my guy. You know,
I back my guy, and I'm not saying he should lie,
(08:37):
But I'm also like, why wouldn't you just say my
fighter is going we're going to win. We put the
work into win, and we're going to win. Whether it's
by knockout or decision, we're gonna be the better fighter.
Very weird. He didn't, And there was also like a
miscommunication on what Joe had done versus what Barrios had
done in camp. It was like Marios is like, oh,
you know, we just tweaked some things, and Joe was
seeing like, no, we did a complete overhaul of things.

And I was like, we don't sound like we're on
the same page. I don't know. It was a weird
thing to listen to at the press or today. And
then on the other side you hear Henry Garcia Ryan
Garcia both saying like you are going to see a
Ryan Garcia that is ferocious, deadly, a guy that you
haven't seen in his last fight with ROLLI, but a
guy focus, locked in and has a purpose again right,
(09:19):
and they it sounded way more confident on the Ryan
Garcia side. Again, how much do you put into that?
It is what it is. But when I look at
the actual fight, I think that both guys, like I said,
both guys are able to be hit. Both guys do
take a lot of risks, but only one of those
guys is fast enough to get away with taking a
lot of risks, and that's Ryan Garcia. When Barrios does
(09:39):
decide to stay in the pocket for longer exchanges again,
especially with lead hand exchanges to the body or upstairs,
I don't think his hand speed, his decision making is
fast enough or ingrained enough to avoid that left hook
or to avoid the left hook right hand. Again. I
think Ryan's right hand might be the shot that hurts
(09:59):
Barriio badly. In this fight. Brios has been clipped by
right hands through the guard, straight piercing right hands and
then over the top right hands as well. And if
you look at some ofer Ryan Garcia's pad work. Again,
everybody throws right hands if you're an orthodox fighter, so
it doesn't really mean a lot. But you see him
working exclusively like turning his right hand over more stabbing
with his right hand and then boom over the top

with it as well, working the straight right and the
hook and the overhand of it. And again you you
go back and watch Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos and
able Amos hit him with a straight right hand through
the guard that dropped Barrios, hurt him bad and somehow Barrios,
you know, got out of that fight with a draw,
even though I thought he lost that fight. I thought
he lost the many back yall fight too. So there's
a lot for Barrios to fight for here. And it's
(10:41):
not like we don't know what he wants to bring
to Ryan. He wants to beat him up, use his
size advantage and pose his will, shut down Ryan's confidence,
and take him into deeper water where Ryan's power may
not hold up the same or word Barrios' size, and
again his forward motor runs Ryan over in the later round.
That's to me, that is clear what both guys kind
of want to do. I think Ryan wants to stick

him with the left hand, finish him with the right hand,
or vice versa. Be quick fast, He ready to capitalize
on a slower, more methodical pace from Barrios and hit
him with something he doesn't see. Right. That's what Ryan's
best at as being a freak athlete with lightning fast
hand speed that hits you when you think you're safe,
in between exchanges, in between your punches, and listen, I
(11:23):
know everybody is taking this pick right now, and I'm
probably gonna hit Ryan with the Wade curse, but I'm
taking Ryan Garcia. I'm gonna take him by stoppage. Despite
that being my prediction, I don't I'm not sold that
Ryan Garcia is just a clear cut favorite to win
a decision if it were to go to right. I
think Barrios, if it is a decision fight, has a
hell of a lot of a chance to win it
right because that wouldn't tell me that either Barrios found

a way to get off the canvas and fight back
or that Barrios never went to the canvas. And if
that's the case, I think Barrios does win this fight.
If Ryan doesn't hurt him at all in this fight,
like put him on wobble legs or send him to
the canvas at least once, and then Barrios is all
we gonna win this fight. Ryan out classing and master
class boxing Mario Barrios could happen. But that's not really
in Ryan's wheelhouse, right, It's not really how he fights.

So I'm going with Ryan by stoppage, but don't be
surprised if it goes the other way, because I know
a lot of people are jumping on this Ryan pick
right now after you know, seeing him transform and lock
into camp and seeing Barrios be very vulnerable to being hit,
and this is why I'm also picking him as well.
But I just I just think Barrios is too slow.
I think his reaction time to things, I think he's

a bit too methodical. And we'll see how his punch
resistance holds up if he can. If he can hold
up at forty seven and Ryan's power doesn't carry to
forty seven, then we may have a different discussion year.
I'm gonna go Ryan bylet's say seventh round knockout. I'm
gonna say Ryan in the seventh round knocks out Mario Barrios,
and I'll be honest, Yes, Ryan winning is better for box.

It's not even a discussion to be had. If Ryan
wins boxing gets a face with a belt. If Mario wins,
you're gonna have other options for him. Maybe he gets
the boost off Ryan Garcia, But personality wise, it's not
even close who the fans cheer for, who they root for.
That's not how boxing works. It doesn't matter how pretty
you are, how many social media followers you got. I'm
just saying for the sport itself and the fandom, Ryan

versus Shakor Stevenson, Ryan versus Connor Ben Ryan versus Devin
Hany in the rematch. There're a lot more intriguing fights
to me, but doesn't mean that that's what's gonna happen.
And Mario Barrios is looking to absolutely shock everyone and
I'm telling you he absolutely can do it. But I'm
taking Ryan anyway my knockout seventh round. You guys, let

was just me, but I didn't when when Joe Goosen
was talking about Mario Barrios, he was saying all the
right stuff. You know, Barrios has been a model fighter
in the camp. He has exceeded expectations. But when it
came down to Chris Mannix asking Joe out was gonna go,
He's like, well, I bet all my guy. You know,
I back my guy, and I'm not saying he should lie,
(08:37):
But I'm also like, why wouldn't you just say my
fighter is going we're going to win. We put the
work into win, and we're going to win. Whether it's
by knockout or decision, we're gonna be the better fighter.
Very weird. He didn't, And there was also like a
miscommunication on what Joe had done versus what Barrios had
done in camp. It was like Marios is like, oh,
you know, we just tweaked some things, and Joe was
seeing like, no, we did a complete overhaul of things.
(08:57):
And I was like, we don't sound like we're on
the same page. I don't know. It was a weird
thing to listen to at the press or today. And
then on the other side you hear Henry Garcia Ryan
Garcia both saying like you are going to see a
Ryan Garcia that is ferocious, deadly, a guy that you
haven't seen in his last fight with ROLLI, but a
guy focus, locked in and has a purpose again right,
(09:19):
and they it sounded way more confident on the Ryan
Garcia side. Again, how much do you put into that?
It is what it is. But when I look at
the actual fight, I think that both guys, like I said,
both guys are able to be hit. Both guys do
take a lot of risks, but only one of those
guys is fast enough to get away with taking a
lot of risks, and that's Ryan Garcia. When Barrios does
(09:39):
decide to stay in the pocket for longer exchanges again,
especially with lead hand exchanges to the body or upstairs,
I don't think his hand speed, his decision making is
fast enough or ingrained enough to avoid that left hook
or to avoid the left hook right hand. Again. I
think Ryan's right hand might be the shot that hurts
(09:59):
Barriio badly. In this fight. Brios has been clipped by
right hands through the guard, straight piercing right hands and
then over the top right hands as well. And if
you look at some ofer Ryan Garcia's pad work. Again,
everybody throws right hands if you're an orthodox fighter, so
it doesn't really mean a lot. But you see him
working exclusively like turning his right hand over more stabbing
with his right hand and then boom over the top
(10:21):
with it as well, working the straight right and the
hook and the overhand of it. And again you you
go back and watch Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos and
able Amos hit him with a straight right hand through
the guard that dropped Barrios, hurt him bad and somehow Barrios,
you know, got out of that fight with a draw,
even though I thought he lost that fight. I thought
he lost the many back yall fight too. So there's
a lot for Barrios to fight for here. And it's
(10:41):
not like we don't know what he wants to bring
to Ryan. He wants to beat him up, use his
size advantage and pose his will, shut down Ryan's confidence,
and take him into deeper water where Ryan's power may
not hold up the same or word Barrios' size, and
again his forward motor runs Ryan over in the later round.
That's to me, that is clear what both guys kind
of want to do. I think Ryan wants to stick
(11:02):
him with the left hand, finish him with the right hand,
or vice versa. Be quick fast, He ready to capitalize
on a slower, more methodical pace from Barrios and hit
him with something he doesn't see. Right. That's what Ryan's
best at as being a freak athlete with lightning fast
hand speed that hits you when you think you're safe,
in between exchanges, in between your punches, and listen, I
(11:23):
know everybody is taking this pick right now, and I'm
probably gonna hit Ryan with the Wade curse, but I'm
taking Ryan Garcia. I'm gonna take him by stoppage. Despite
that being my prediction, I don't I'm not sold that
Ryan Garcia is just a clear cut favorite to win
a decision if it were to go to right. I
think Barrios, if it is a decision fight, has a
hell of a lot of a chance to win it
right because that wouldn't tell me that either Barrios found
(11:46):
a way to get off the canvas and fight back
or that Barrios never went to the canvas. And if
that's the case, I think Barrios does win this fight.
If Ryan doesn't hurt him at all in this fight,
like put him on wobble legs or send him to
the canvas at least once, and then Barrios is all
we gonna win this fight. Ryan out classing and master
class boxing Mario Barrios could happen. But that's not really
in Ryan's wheelhouse, right, It's not really how he fights.
(12:09):
So I'm going with Ryan by stoppage, but don't be
surprised if it goes the other way, because I know
a lot of people are jumping on this Ryan pick
right now after you know, seeing him transform and lock
into camp and seeing Barrios be very vulnerable to being hit,
and this is why I'm also picking him as well.
But I just I just think Barrios is too slow.
I think his reaction time to things, I think he's
(12:30):
a bit too methodical. And we'll see how his punch
resistance holds up if he can. If he can hold
up at forty seven and Ryan's power doesn't carry to
forty seven, then we may have a different discussion year.
I'm gonna go Ryan bylet's say seventh round knockout. I'm
gonna say Ryan in the seventh round knocks out Mario Barrios,
and I'll be honest, Yes, Ryan winning is better for box.
(12:50):
It's not even a discussion to be had. If Ryan
wins boxing gets a face with a belt. If Mario wins,
you're gonna have other options for him. Maybe he gets
the boost off Ryan Garcia, But personality wise, it's not
even close who the fans cheer for, who they root for.
That's not how boxing works. It doesn't matter how pretty
you are, how many social media followers you got. I'm
just saying for the sport itself and the fandom, Ryan
(13:11):
versus Shakor Stevenson, Ryan versus Connor Ben Ryan versus Devin
Hany in the rematch. There're a lot more intriguing fights
to me, but doesn't mean that that's what's gonna happen.
And Mario Barrios is looking to absolutely shock everyone and
I'm telling you he absolutely can do it. But I'm
taking Ryan anyway my knockout seventh round. You guys, let
me know what you think down below. It's my final pick.

I know the curses out there. Do we break the
curse this time around? Don't have those answers, but I
guess we'll find out
