Alden Smith at thirty six. His family is donating his
brain for CTE research and Aaron Donald on retirement watch

Like just like TJ said, spending a little time with
the family this weekend, a little man's surprises last night
and came home for the Father's Day weekend, so so

the one of the few weekends I haven't been traveling

AU Basketball for recognizing that it is Father's Day weekend
and choosing not to have basketball tournaments.

I was in there. This a three day tournament. You're
gonna laugh. We're twelve. I mean the team that we
have is twelve. We're gonna team we have his twelve. Yeah, yeah, true,
twelve year olds. We're gonna be playing fourteen year olds.
But that's okay. We had a game last twelve year
old teams, all twelve year old all sixth grade, twelve
year old teams. And the people that are in southern

California that's listening to this because they tell me every
time they see me in the gym they love the show.
But yeah, yeah, yeah, we're gonna be playing some fourteen
year olds. Tournament directors, they don't give a damn. You're
showing proof right to their face. Man, Look, look, look
how old.

Oh well, he submitted documents that says he's twelve. All right,
y'all don't care. But anyway, we played last night at
nine pm.

I've worked out three times in the last two weeks,
but it's because it's every other day I'm taking my
son to work out. So my son is actually his
first time actually like doing ways, very very light. Yeah,
and so he working out and I'm gonna work out
as well. So you know, I'm just trying to get
back in a groove of things a little bit, so

Yeah that's good man. Hey, you got to try to
stay in shape and well. Speaking of staying in shaping
and getting right, Brendan Soorsby, he's getting right and getting ready,
but not for Texas Tech. He's now declared that he's
seeking information to utilize the supplemental draft. Now there's two
takes here, Fellas One Brendan Soorsby is the still of
(04:46):
the entire twenty twenty six calendar. Some scouts had him
as a high first round draft pick number three quarterback
on the board behind Arch Manning and Dante Moore. Whoever
grabbed him, you know, or grabs him in round two
of the supplemental draft is stealing a first round talent
for pennies. That's kind of a take, but I don't
(05:09):
know how that works. Might not be a second round
supplemental Draft pick could be as low as three. And
here's to this point, the second second hot take. Nobody
should burn a pick on Swerdsby. The kid is admitted
to betting on sports. He did impatient rehab for gambling addiction.
And well, the league they treat gambling like the third rail.
(05:32):
We all know the minimum of getting in trouble is
a one year suspension for betting on NFL games. You
do not take that risk at that position. I'll pose
the question to you, guys, and getting into this conversation,
what side do you fall on? Is he a first
round talent? First of all, do you agree with that?
(05:55):
Second of all, him being in the supplemental draft because
of gambling addiction. Is swords By a steal or is
he a radio active player that could let your team
and ultimately could let the league down?
Speaker 4 (06:11):
I mean we all assume that Sworsby is gonna be
a really good player. And for some odd reason, man,
I continue to point to these three words when anything
comes up and words self inflicted choices, decisions, consequences. Yeah,
(06:33):
NFL did a hell of a job with the Rookie
Symposium because I still remember those three words. He chose
to do something after being warned, and they caught him.
He got caught, and I'm one that believes he should
have been allowed to play college football. Shame on the
(06:53):
Big Twelve and all those other schools that we're gonna
try to sue Texas Tech, and they were trying to
back Texas Texas Tech in a corner because if Soresby
was a quarterback at any other.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Big twelve school and the.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Judge ruled him eligible to play, every school in the
Big twelve would have done exactly what Texas Tech did,
back their guy and say okay, let's go play this
regular season. So we'll see what ends up happening in
the supplemental draft. But he is a good player. Is
this going to follow him in the National Football League?
Absolutely is going to follow him. I believe anybody that
(07:31):
has any common sense, but they'd always say. Now, common
sense isn't so common. There's just no way he's going
to the National Football League and will attempt that. There
is going to be he will be looked at like
a hawk. He is going to be monitored because it
makes I just finished this past week giving Gambler presentations
(07:54):
to some teams in the National Football League, entire teams.
I just did it this past week, and it's very simple.
Don't bet on the NFL. Ever, that's just about as
clean as I can put it. Do not bet. Once
you step foot into a locker room, a team bus,
a team hotel, you are now representing the National Football League.
(08:19):
Brendan Soresby. If something do it, if you want to,
your ass would be out the league so fast because
you getting caught.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Oh I'm gonna have my boy bet for me.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
They gonna catch you. Oh I'm gonna have somebody. They
gonna catch you. And so that should be your lesson learned.
You just basically forfeited your senior year of college when
you would have been a first round pick. So you
you cost yourself. We call this hustling backwards, LeVar. You
cost yourself millions because you're trying to win thousands. Who

the hell would do that?
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Yeah, I think I think that. Yeah, I think that
we can all agree read that, you know, going into
the next year's draft that he would be the number
one quarterback, you know, possibly taking off the board. But
you know, going into this whole supplemental draft. Of the
way I understand it is, what are teams you know,
picking in this supplemental draft going to base some ass?
(09:18):
Is he a first round pick in a supplemental draft
or a second round pick? From what I understand, if
you're a team and you actually win the bid for
the pick in the first round, you forfeit your first
round pick for the following year's draft. So you have
to be a team to you know, if you don't
really don't plan on being that good or you think
(09:39):
you may finish last in your division. I think that
you can, you know kind of you know, make that
leap to take of Brendan sore as be in the
first round of supplemental draft. But I think a lot
a lot of these teams are going to go after
him in the second round and bid on him in
the second round and say, okay, you know what, I
can go out there and you know, draft Brendan Sowsby
(10:03):
in the second round because there's a a good chance
that he might be a good enough player that I
can forfeit my second round pick for the following his draft.
So that's how this whole thing goes. It's going to
come down to what team I think, where the team
thinks that he should be drafted at first or second round.
And if you're a team, uh, you know, very good
(10:24):
or you playing on you know, getting to the playoffs
and making a deep run, I don't think you drafted
Brendan sows Bey in the first round of a telemental draft. So, uh,
it's just kind of strange to me that that Cincinnati,
the University of Cincinnati, wasn't aware of all of these
you know, gambling, you know, wages that he was making
(10:47):
before he came there from Indiana. I just don't understand
how it got to this point and then as soon
as he transfers, you know, all of these things come
out about him. Sad, but but it happened. Just like
TJ said, he cast himself a lot of money going
into the next year's draft because he probably would have
been a top ten pick off the board.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Keep in mind, he went to a different school. Then
Cincinnati went to Indiana, didn't play at Indiana and was
doing the same things at Indiana. So he went to
two different schools and was gambling. And nothing ever came
out one way or another, whether the conspiracy theory of
somebody did not want Texas Tech to get any better
(11:26):
than what they already are and they had an opportunity
with a bullet in the chamber to cripple them for
at least this year, or you just fall on the
side up the dude finally just got caught. Whichever side
you fall on, it's still a bad look for Brendan Soresby. Now,
I look at it like this. You saw the Browns
GM Andrew Berry, he publicly said give the kid grace.
(11:48):
That already to me sends a message that guys are
looking at Sowresby as a as a person. That right,
they're going, what did Steve Kobins say, Steve, if you
got talent, we're not calling him electorial killer, we calling
him a meat lover or well, of course something.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Yeah, of course Andrew Brad would say that they've been
looking for a quarterback for the last three decades. I mean,
I mean, he could take a he can take a
gamble oft Brendan Soresby, just like he did Deshaun Washington.
He can't get any worse than that.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I think when you look at this fellas if you're
able to get him, if you give up a second
round in the supplemental draft. I think from what I've gathered,
even just talking to Q Brady Quindor in the week,
it sounds as though and and even uh others who
have come Pete Prisco came on the show, and they
don't seem to think that a team will give up
(12:48):
that probably hit around the third round, third round supplemental draft.
If you're able to get swords By with a third
round supplemental draft pick, I believe you got to steal.
But not with that being said, he's going to come in.
He's going to fight for quarterback two and quarterback three,
which means he's fighting for a roster spot. He's not
fighting for a starting job. Is he talented enough? That's
(13:10):
the question I find myself asking myself, because when you
come in the way he's coming in, he's already got
a lot of strikes against him in terms of being
able to just make it on to the team. Is
the kid talented enough to actually navigate being a supplemental
late round draft, which third round isn't late. If it's
as high as two, if it's as high as one,
(13:32):
then you got to believe that the market has spoken.
They're saying he's good to be a guy. Where you guys.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Following that, I don't totally agree with what you just said,
because I believe there are at least there are at
least one or two teams that can take him in
a second, third, third round and he can walk into
these quarterback women compete for a starting job. Okay, there's
at least two or three teams I would say compete
this year.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Why not?

He's too late in the process. It's not too late
in the process. That I don't.
Speaker 2 (14:06):

I don't believe that it's not too late in the
process for for Minnesota Vikings because J. J. McCarthy hasn't played,
and and Kyla Murray is in his first he's been there.
He's in his first in his offense, but he's been there. Yeah,
he's been there for the far off.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Three three or four months. If you have a quarterback,
if you have a starter that is acclimated too, because
there are a little I mean to your point, plex
there are a lot of new coaches, coaching staffs that
have come about this first year guys. But I will say, well,
what TJ is saying, you are talking about competing with
(14:44):
other guys that, for one, are being looked at as
the starters like sowards By. Wasn't even he's not even
a thought process on Okay, he's a starter. No, You've
gone through OTA's mini camps and you have the guys
that you're looking at that are going to be your
star for the team. I don't think Brendan Sowardsby comes
in in the situation that he's in and he suppliants
(15:06):
a guy that has already been there working during this
offseason acclimating to the playbook. I don't see that.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
So so you would think a team is going to
take Brendan Sowsby in a supplemental draft in a second
or third round and and have and have the possibility
of not making a roster, then they're wasting the draft.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I wouldn't say. I wouldn't say not make the roster
if they if they go as high second, yeah he's
not they go if they go as high. Second, I
think he makes the roster, and even in the third
he makes the roster. Yeah, he makes the roster, but
not I don't think it is remotely close to him
competing for a starting job for whatever team it is
that takes him. I don't think that he's got a

lot of proving that you never know. I mean, you're
I mean that that is accurate. You do never know,
but I mean it is what it is, right, We'll
see what happens. But I think what it all to
that leak comes down to is the first things first,
what round is he going to get taken in? And
I think that that's going to be pretty interesting because
I think there's a large spectrum of opinions on what
(16:11):
people believe Sores be to be. If he can translate
into being a pro pro quarterback, what comes along with
the baggage that he's bringing into the league. It's just
a lot of unknowns and that we'll have to see
play out as it goes. But first, first domino to
fall is where will he go in the SU supplemental Draft.

a real human, league wide deal. It's a heavyweight conversation

direct hit in our community. Olden Smith gone at thirty
six years old. The reports have stated that his family
plans to donate his brain to CTE research, and it's
a major conversation, Fellas. It's a heavy one. Obviously, it's

been reported and it's documented that he suffered numerous concussions
during his career. But on that side of it, it's tragic.
On the other side of it, I hope people can
celebrate him as well. He was one of the more
dynamic pass rushers, an amazing talent on the field, had

a very very promising career going for him. I mean
I wouldn't venture to say even maybe a Hall of
Fame level career up there with the best of them.
I mean, you're talking about a guy that had the
same type of potential and was as disruptive as a.
Miles Garrett or TJ. Watt and the league at one
(20:36):
point in time, just the gifted pass rusher. I don't know.
You know again, I said let's check in with one
another at the beginning of the show, and this was
obviously the reason why, because obviously you got to check
in on one another to see where one another are
and how we're feeling where we're at in our lives
(20:56):
post playing career. What were your guys's kind of reaction
when this news hit? What did it make you feel?
Did it make you feel any type of emotions? Just
just talk to me about just from the aspect of
how deep do do we go with this? Right? Is
it just a matter of he struggled outside of the game.
(21:18):
Maybe it was something that was just medical. I mean,
it could have just been a you know, any and
that you know, I don't know, it could, but I'm
not a medical person. I don't want to speculate on it.
What was y'all's take on the news of hearing about
Alden smith Man.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Anytime somebody loses their life, obviously it's uh unfortunate. You
feel sad for his family and his loved ones, especially
his immediate family that knowing when when he was Alden Smith,
the little boy that had aspirations and dreams to make
it to the league. Those are the people that that
(21:57):
are wooding, probably on it every day, bases that communicate
with him. So those people suffered. His friends that were
close to him, genuine friends. It's always always unfortunate when
that happens, and so it's condolences, prayers, and you just
hope they're able to cope with this and get through this.
(22:20):
I didn't know Auden Smith, but it's what you said, man.
When he came into the league, it was like, whoa,
he would have won Rookie of the Year. It's just
Von Miller had a great rooky season as well. And now,
honest Smith was like, all right, jan I'm gonna give
me this Rookie of the Year. Okay, watch what I
(22:41):
do this second year. And he went crazy at second year,
the way he played. As soon as he got to
the league, he was on his way to the Hall
of Fame. He was on his way to being one
of the past the best pass rushers the NFL had
ever seen. And he just couldn't get out of his
(23:02):
own way with his problems with drugs and a lot
of times some people had those problems and they just
can't overcome them. And again I didn't know him personally,
so I can't speak on that, but I just know
from a football player, he looked like he was on
his way to being talked about as a generational type
of talent when it comes to Russian the pastor. He
(23:25):
seemed to get his life in order. But what we
see may not always be reality. And so again prayers
to his family, hope they're able to get through this situation.
The fact that they're donating his brain, we'll just kind
of shed more light on what we go through.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
I think a lot of us have it, to be
honest with you, and some of us handled it better
than others. I truly believe that.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
I mean, obviously, Man, it's disappointing when we lose a
brother from the fraternity, not met Alden Smith, you know,
you know, he passes away at the tender age of
thirty six. Man, A lot of you know, great you
know time in front of them, And I always say, man,
that being a teammate, it doesn't matter what profession you
(24:16):
play in. I think that the highest honor that we
can receive as players after we have transitioned and moved
on from football. Is that when your teammates and coaches
come out and say, you know, he was a great teammate.
I think that's one of the one of the things
that you know, uh, you know, we take for granted,
(24:37):
you know, as players, because you know, we always we
go to work and everybody has the same goal, and
that is to be the best player for your teammates
and to be and try to try to try to
help all of us fulfill a childhood dream of getting
to the pinnacle of the sport. And I always say that,
you know, when your teammates come out and support you
(24:59):
and say, you know, he was a great teammate. He
was a great player, but he was even a better person.
I think that's one of the things that when you
hear that not knowing a person, you know you can
you can, you know, say that, you know what the
people that were closest to him knew him the best,
and and and they come out and when they come
(25:19):
out and say things like that about you, it says
about a lot about you as a person. And you know,
I was watching it and looking at it on TV,
and he was basically at at a charity event, like
a couple of hours before he passed away. So so
the man was out there, you know, giving back to
the community, and it's just unfortunate that, you know, whatever happened,
(25:43):
you know, he's no longer with us. But as far
as I know that, there hasn't been no cause to death. So, uh,
we're all going to find out at the same time
exactly what happened. But you know, prayers go out to
all in this family.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
You know, and that's a it's a great point to
make plexus. Again, let's not speculate on what his you know,
how his demise ultimately came. But it does open the
floor to the conversation of CTE because CTE is being
used in the conversation. It made me start, you know,
(26:17):
thinking to myself. It's like, I know, there's always the
ongoing discussion fellas of well should you be held accountable
for something you know or something you don't know, or
how do you measure it? And I started wondering it
and thinking it for myself because it's like, well, I
(26:38):
was a violent football player, and one of the things
that I was taught at an early age, which I
thought was one of the best techniques I ever had,
because I never saw anyone who could if I could
get in place to do it, that could combat it,
which was butting. I was taught to button when you
get a hold of the blocker and the blocker gets
(26:59):
a hold of you, and he's squared up on you,
because you're not supposed to be squared up on a blocker.
But if y'all are both squared up mano and mono,
more often than not, the guy that's holding on to
you is stronger than you. And I was taught to butting.
So you butt the bottom of their their face mask
and you use the crown in your head and you
(27:20):
butt where their chin would be, and it's a shock.
You shock their body, and then you're able to do
what you need to do to disengage the block One
of the best techniques I ever learned. But am I
sitting there thinking twenty years from now what is the
(27:41):
constant butting of these dudes doing to my brain? Never
really never gave it any hard thought, never gave it
any real, you know, conclusions of substance. None of it
just what is my job and how do I get
it done? So then I asked myself. The next question
fellas was hearing about CTE. Now on the other side
(28:05):
of it, if I were to go through this all
over again, if you were to say, LeVar, you can
come through this, and you're gonna have to deal with
what takes place with the I guess the consequences of
using your head as much as you are going to
use it. But you're gonna have the same exact life
(28:26):
you had if you went over it, and if you
went through it all over again, or you don't get
the life that you have, and you got to take
your chances on what it looks like with you not
having the life that you live playing the game the
way that you did, but you don't have anything that's
connected to the CTE deal, which one would I do?
(28:50):
And maybe I'm I don't know, Maybe I'm a Neanderthal
for it. Maybe I don't have any real I don't
have any real apologies for it, because I have a
father who lost his legs in battle and war, and
he was, you know, he was a warrior for a
soldier for our country when he lost his legs, and
(29:10):
ultimately all of our military people who lose their lives
in battle and I start thinking to myself. While I
will never say that playing ball is the equivalent of
being in a war, I still was raised on the
mentality of a warrior, and so in my mind, even
thinking about what CTE represents, I would do it again
(29:35):
if I could be LeVar Arrington that went out there
and gave it his all, and I actually did it
in a place and in a situation where hundreds of
thousands of people get to witness it, millions of people
around the country, around the world watching get to witness it.
(29:55):
The camaraderie, the friendships, the familyhood. I wouldn't know y'all
outside of football, and we wouldn't be close outside of football,
because it's hard to create the level of respect that
we have for one another outside of the struggle. I
would do it again, fellas. I don't know about you guys,
but I know for me now I think about it.

For my kids, both my sons playing football, What does
that mean for them having that knowledge? It's okay for me.
I don't know that I'm okay for with my sons.
You know, it's a hard it's a hard conversation to
have with yourself. And when these things take place, whether
that's what it is that you know it was with

with Alden or not, whether it's something else. It's still
begged for the question to be asked. How do I
now know? I nowhere up on the break? But would
you guys do it all over again or how how
what would you do differently knowing what CTE is now?
And this all came about after we were done with our careers.

Just feel like we, all three of us are on
this show because football brought us together. The first paycheck
I ever got in my life was when I got drafted.
That's the first time technically I ever had a job.
And so I'm knock on wood Man TJ feel like

he's good and if he isn't, you know later down
the road if I'm not, it's unfortunate and it sucks
because I want to be here for my children. I
want to be here as long as I possibly can.
But I'm running it back again like I am. And
(31:57):
I don't know how many guys that have gone through
this process is say they wouldn't run it back again. Man,
being in that locker room playing a game of football,
I don't care what you say, is so damn fun.
We build relationships that last a lifetime and memories. Man.
You just don't get that doing anything else. I don't
(32:18):
believe you do. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, TJ
doing that again. Plex ah Man, absolutely, no doubt, man,
no doubt. Man.

My hum dropped me off at the football field when
I was seven years old. I didn't look back since,
and uh, you know, not really understanding of what I
was doing, but the game just gave gave me such
a joy and a glow to go out and compete.
And when I was on a football field, it was
like everything in my life was was was great, what

was beautiful. And it's like TJ said, Man, this game
is allowed not only myself but all of us man
to travel all around the world and meet people from
all walks of life into and to uh inspire you know,
young young men and women and all over the world. Man.
So uh uh you know, walking out of that tunnel
(33:10):
man on Sundays and Mondays or whenever you was playing, man,
there was nothing like it. And you know, you look
back at it. He was like, man, what was I
thinking about? You know now that you know, approaching forty
nine years old, but but just but just the pure
joy of it and just being able to go out
there and compete and you know, uh you know you
(33:32):
uh watch your teammates that you that you go to
work with, you know, turn in just two great athletes
and and and moments that you know you would never
never be able to be a part of if if
you was not you know, on that team or in
that locker room. So absolutely, man, I would I would
(33:52):
do it all over again. Uh, you know, one hundred,
one hundred percent, man, no doubt about it.

Respect and love to Alten Smith as the player, Respecting
love to you as the person, and as you mentioned TJ,
love and prayers to the family. Hope that you guys
find comfort and support from those who loved out and
and loved you guys the most. Hoping for the best

results and whatever it is that the you know, donating
of his brain and the research that goes along with it,
because if they can make things better for the future,
then that would be a great thing. If they can
come up with ways to strategize how to combat CTE
lesson its and effects and all of those different things

don't give up on the things that build strong young people.
And I think the game of football is one of
those games that builds strong young people and strong young
men and even nowadays strong young women as as well.
That has to be entered into the conversation as well.

very quickly. First, let's start with Aaron Donald. I'll say
this very quickly. A seventy percent Aaron Donald is Aaron
Donald that could most likely win Defensive Player of the Year. Again,
I think it's just a matter of mentally does he
want to do it? Emotionally does he want to do it?

And how does his his spouse feel about that that decision.
That would be my take on it. But there should
be no question that if he has anything left physically,
I think the bigger question is the emotional mental aspect
of it.

Fellas man, Aaron Donald, if he decides to come back,
that Rams defense in that team is going to be scary.
I met Aaron Donald, I personally don't know him like that.
But the work ethic that we see today what you

imagine how it was when he was playing. And so
when you combine that type of work ethic with the
talent that he has and now Miles Garrett and Byron
Young and Kobe Turner and Brandon Fist, like that ramp,
just that D line will be scary. The Raums team
will be scary. I want him to do it. I
really want to see how this looks. But if he

decides to do it, you know he's gonna be mentally
in physically prepared. And this may be something we haven't
really seen from a defensive front, to have two of
the best pass rush, just two of the best defensive
players on the same team on the same at the
same time, basically playing the same position. We get to

the quarterback, who you're gonna double team. This may be
the first time in Aaron Donald's career he's gonna be single.

Black happened, Yeah, has never happened, man, I mean I
want to see it just for that reason. Man, if
you just look at this man's resume of what he
was able to put together in ten years of playing
in his businessman, and he's like, you know, you look
at his trophy racking. He just says to himself, there's
nothing else for me to accomplish. Three year Defensive Player
of the Year, eight years, first first team All Pro,

eight years in a row. I mean, you get to
a certain point when when he just you just say that,
you know, Aaron Donald is the best defensive tackle that
we've ever seen. And for him to do it and
that's short of time, it's just it's nothing short of remarkable.
But I just ran in on Aaron a few months

ago man Pittsburgh at the draft man, and he still
looks like he can play like right now in the
drop of a dime. I mean, that's what he looks
like to me. And and just just the thought of
Miles Garrett and him playing together. I just don't know
what you do offensively, I mean I really don't. I
want to see it. For that reason. I believe that

if it does happen, the Rams will be the number
one contender this year to win it all, and probably
without him. But I think he's looking at it you
guys know what is like the mythical capacity of a
NFL season. I just gonna come down to him emotionally
and can he get through it from a physical standpoint,

which I believe he can.

year olds. Tournament directors, they don't give a damn. You're

but it's because it's every other day I'm taking my
son to work out. So my son is actually his
first time actually like doing ways, very very light. Yeah,
and so he working out and I'm gonna work out
as well. So you know, I'm just trying to get
back in a groove of things a little bit, so

Yeah that's good man. Hey, you got to try to
stay in shape and well. Speaking of staying in shaping
and getting right, Brendan Soorsby, he's getting right and getting ready,
but not for Texas Tech. He's now declared that he's
seeking information to utilize the supplemental draft. Now there's two
takes here, Fellas One Brendan Soorsby is the still of
(04:46):
the entire twenty twenty six calendar. Some scouts had him
as a high first round draft pick number three quarterback
on the board behind Arch Manning and Dante Moore. Whoever
grabbed him, you know, or grabs him in round two
of the supplemental draft is stealing a first round talent
for pennies. That's kind of a take, but I don't
(05:09):
know how that works. Might not be a second round
supplemental Draft pick could be as low as three. And
here's to this point, the second second hot take. Nobody
should burn a pick on Swerdsby. The kid is admitted
to betting on sports. He did impatient rehab for gambling addiction.
And well, the league they treat gambling like the third rail.
(05:32):
We all know the minimum of getting in trouble is
a one year suspension for betting on NFL games. You
do not take that risk at that position. I'll pose
the question to you, guys, and getting into this conversation,
what side do you fall on? Is he a first
round talent? First of all, do you agree with that?
(05:55):
Second of all, him being in the supplemental draft because
of gambling addiction. Is swords By a steal or is
he a radio active player that could let your team
and ultimately could let the league down?
Speaker 4 (06:11):
I mean we all assume that Sworsby is gonna be
a really good player. And for some odd reason, man,
I continue to point to these three words when anything
comes up and words self inflicted choices, decisions, consequences. Yeah,
(06:33):
NFL did a hell of a job with the Rookie
Symposium because I still remember those three words. He chose
to do something after being warned, and they caught him.
He got caught, and I'm one that believes he should
have been allowed to play college football. Shame on the
(06:53):
Big Twelve and all those other schools that we're gonna
try to sue Texas Tech, and they were trying to
back Texas Texas Tech in a corner because if Soresby
was a quarterback at any other.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Big twelve school and the.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Judge ruled him eligible to play, every school in the
Big twelve would have done exactly what Texas Tech did,
back their guy and say okay, let's go play this
regular season. So we'll see what ends up happening in
the supplemental draft. But he is a good player. Is
this going to follow him in the National Football League?
Absolutely is going to follow him. I believe anybody that
(07:31):
has any common sense, but they'd always say. Now, common
sense isn't so common. There's just no way he's going
to the National Football League and will attempt that. There
is going to be he will be looked at like
a hawk. He is going to be monitored because it
makes I just finished this past week giving Gambler presentations
(07:54):
to some teams in the National Football League, entire teams.
I just did it this past week, and it's very simple.
Don't bet on the NFL. Ever, that's just about as
clean as I can put it. Do not bet. Once
you step foot into a locker room, a team bus,
a team hotel, you are now representing the National Football League.
(08:19):
Brendan Soresby. If something do it, if you want to,
your ass would be out the league so fast because
you getting caught.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Oh I'm gonna have my boy bet for me.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
They gonna catch you. Oh I'm gonna have somebody. They
gonna catch you. And so that should be your lesson learned.
You just basically forfeited your senior year of college when
you would have been a first round pick. So you
you cost yourself. We call this hustling backwards, LeVar. You
cost yourself millions because you're trying to win thousands. Who
(08:52):
the hell would do that?
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Yeah, I think I think that. Yeah, I think that
we can all agree read that, you know, going into
the next year's draft that he would be the number
one quarterback, you know, possibly taking off the board. But
you know, going into this whole supplemental draft. Of the
way I understand it is, what are teams you know,
picking in this supplemental draft going to base some ass?
(09:18):
Is he a first round pick in a supplemental draft
or a second round pick? From what I understand, if
you're a team and you actually win the bid for
the pick in the first round, you forfeit your first
round pick for the following year's draft. So you have
to be a team to you know, if you don't
really don't plan on being that good or you think
(09:39):
you may finish last in your division. I think that
you can, you know kind of you know, make that
leap to take of Brendan sore as be in the
first round of supplemental draft. But I think a lot
a lot of these teams are going to go after
him in the second round and bid on him in
the second round and say, okay, you know what, I
can go out there and you know, draft Brendan Sowsby
(10:03):
in the second round because there's a a good chance
that he might be a good enough player that I
can forfeit my second round pick for the following his draft.
So that's how this whole thing goes. It's going to
come down to what team I think, where the team
thinks that he should be drafted at first or second round.
And if you're a team, uh, you know, very good
(10:24):
or you playing on you know, getting to the playoffs
and making a deep run, I don't think you drafted
Brendan sows Bey in the first round of a telemental draft. So, uh,
it's just kind of strange to me that that Cincinnati,
the University of Cincinnati, wasn't aware of all of these
you know, gambling, you know, wages that he was making
(10:47):
before he came there from Indiana. I just don't understand
how it got to this point and then as soon
as he transfers, you know, all of these things come
out about him. Sad, but but it happened. Just like
TJ said, he cast himself a lot of money going
into the next year's draft because he probably would have
been a top ten pick off the board.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Keep in mind, he went to a different school. Then
Cincinnati went to Indiana, didn't play at Indiana and was
doing the same things at Indiana. So he went to
two different schools and was gambling. And nothing ever came
out one way or another, whether the conspiracy theory of
somebody did not want Texas Tech to get any better
(11:26):
than what they already are and they had an opportunity
with a bullet in the chamber to cripple them for
at least this year, or you just fall on the
side up the dude finally just got caught. Whichever side
you fall on, it's still a bad look for Brendan Soresby. Now,
I look at it like this. You saw the Browns
GM Andrew Berry, he publicly said give the kid grace.
(11:48):
That already to me sends a message that guys are
looking at Sowresby as a as a person. That right,
they're going, what did Steve Kobins say, Steve, if you
got talent, we're not calling him electorial killer, we calling
him a meat lover or well, of course something.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Yeah, of course Andrew Brad would say that they've been
looking for a quarterback for the last three decades. I mean,
I mean, he could take a he can take a
gamble oft Brendan Soresby, just like he did Deshaun Washington.
He can't get any worse than that.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I think when you look at this fellas if you're
able to get him, if you give up a second
round in the supplemental draft. I think from what I've gathered,
even just talking to Q Brady Quindor in the week,
it sounds as though and and even uh others who
have come Pete Prisco came on the show, and they
don't seem to think that a team will give up
(12:48):
that probably hit around the third round, third round supplemental draft.
If you're able to get swords By with a third
round supplemental draft pick, I believe you got to steal.
But not with that being said, he's going to come in.
He's going to fight for quarterback two and quarterback three,
which means he's fighting for a roster spot. He's not
fighting for a starting job. Is he talented enough? That's
(13:10):
the question I find myself asking myself, because when you
come in the way he's coming in, he's already got
a lot of strikes against him in terms of being
able to just make it on to the team. Is
the kid talented enough to actually navigate being a supplemental
late round draft, which third round isn't late. If it's
as high as two, if it's as high as one,
(13:32):
then you got to believe that the market has spoken.
They're saying he's good to be a guy. Where you guys.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Following that, I don't totally agree with what you just said,
because I believe there are at least there are at
least one or two teams that can take him in
a second, third, third round and he can walk into
these quarterback women compete for a starting job. Okay, there's
at least two or three teams I would say compete
this year.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (14:00):
He's too late in the process. It's not too late
in the process. That I don't.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
I don't believe that it's not too late in the
process for for Minnesota Vikings because J. J. McCarthy hasn't played,
and and Kyla Murray is in his first he's been there.
He's in his first in his offense, but he's been there. Yeah,
he's been there for the far off.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Three three or four months. If you have a quarterback,
if you have a starter that is acclimated too, because
there are a little I mean to your point, plex
there are a lot of new coaches, coaching staffs that
have come about this first year guys. But I will say, well,
what TJ is saying, you are talking about competing with
(14:44):
other guys that, for one, are being looked at as
the starters like sowards By. Wasn't even he's not even
a thought process on Okay, he's a starter. No, You've
gone through OTA's mini camps and you have the guys
that you're looking at that are going to be your
star for the team. I don't think Brendan Sowardsby comes
in in the situation that he's in and he suppliants
(15:06):
a guy that has already been there working during this
offseason acclimating to the playbook. I don't see that.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
So so you would think a team is going to
take Brendan Sowsby in a supplemental draft in a second
or third round and and have and have the possibility
of not making a roster, then they're wasting the draft.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I wouldn't say. I wouldn't say not make the roster
if they if they go as high second, yeah he's
not they go if they go as high. Second, I
think he makes the roster, and even in the third
he makes the roster. Yeah, he makes the roster, but
not I don't think it is remotely close to him
competing for a starting job for whatever team it is
that takes him. I don't think that he's got a
(15:48):
lot of proving that you never know. I mean, you're
I mean that that is accurate. You do never know,
but I mean it is what it is, right, We'll
see what happens. But I think what it all to
that leak comes down to is the first things first,
what round is he going to get taken in? And
I think that that's going to be pretty interesting because
I think there's a large spectrum of opinions on what
(16:11):
people believe Sores be to be. If he can translate
into being a pro pro quarterback, what comes along with
the baggage that he's bringing into the league. It's just
a lot of unknowns and that we'll have to see
play out as it goes. But first, first domino to
fall is where will he go in the SU supplemental Draft.

not a hot take segment at all. This is just
a real human, league wide deal. It's a heavyweight conversation

anytime it touches down and hits us, because it's a
direct hit in our community. Olden Smith gone at thirty
six years old. The reports have stated that his family
plans to donate his brain to CTE research, and it's
a major conversation, Fellas. It's a heavy one. Obviously, it's
(19:51):
been reported and it's documented that he suffered numerous concussions
during his career. But on that side of it, it's tragic.
On the other side of it, I hope people can
celebrate him as well. He was one of the more
dynamic pass rushers, an amazing talent on the field, had
(20:16):
a very very promising career going for him. I mean
I wouldn't venture to say even maybe a Hall of
Fame level career up there with the best of them.
I mean, you're talking about a guy that had the
same type of potential and was as disruptive as a.
Miles Garrett or TJ. Watt and the league at one
(20:36):
point in time, just the gifted pass rusher. I don't know.
You know again, I said let's check in with one
another at the beginning of the show, and this was
obviously the reason why, because obviously you got to check
in on one another to see where one another are
and how we're feeling where we're at in our lives
(20:56):
post playing career. What were your guys's kind of reaction
when this news hit? What did it make you feel?
Did it make you feel any type of emotions? Just
just talk to me about just from the aspect of
how deep do do we go with this? Right? Is
it just a matter of he struggled outside of the game.
(21:18):
Maybe it was something that was just medical. I mean,
it could have just been a you know, any and
that you know, I don't know, it could, but I'm
not a medical person. I don't want to speculate on it.
What was y'all's take on the news of hearing about
Alden smith Man.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Anytime somebody loses their life, obviously it's uh unfortunate. You
feel sad for his family and his loved ones, especially
his immediate family that knowing when when he was Alden Smith,
the little boy that had aspirations and dreams to make
it to the league. Those are the people that that
(21:57):
are wooding, probably on it every day, bases that communicate
with him. So those people suffered. His friends that were
close to him, genuine friends. It's always always unfortunate when
that happens, and so it's condolences, prayers, and you just
hope they're able to cope with this and get through this.
(22:20):
I didn't know Auden Smith, but it's what you said, man.
When he came into the league, it was like, whoa,
he would have won Rookie of the Year. It's just
Von Miller had a great rooky season as well. And now,
honest Smith was like, all right, jan I'm gonna give
me this Rookie of the Year. Okay, watch what I
(22:41):
do this second year. And he went crazy at second year,
the way he played. As soon as he got to
the league, he was on his way to the Hall
of Fame. He was on his way to being one
of the past the best pass rushers the NFL had
ever seen. And he just couldn't get out of his
(23:02):
own way with his problems with drugs and a lot
of times some people had those problems and they just
can't overcome them. And again I didn't know him personally,
so I can't speak on that, but I just know
from a football player, he looked like he was on
his way to being talked about as a generational type
of talent when it comes to Russian the pastor. He
(23:25):
seemed to get his life in order. But what we
see may not always be reality. And so again prayers
to his family, hope they're able to get through this situation.
The fact that they're donating his brain, we'll just kind
of shed more light on what we go through.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
I think a lot of us have it, to be
honest with you, and some of us handled it better
than others. I truly believe that.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
I mean, obviously, Man, it's disappointing when we lose a
brother from the fraternity, not met Alden Smith, you know,
you know, he passes away at the tender age of
thirty six. Man, A lot of you know, great you
know time in front of them, And I always say, man,
that being a teammate, it doesn't matter what profession you
(24:16):
play in. I think that the highest honor that we
can receive as players after we have transitioned and moved
on from football. Is that when your teammates and coaches
come out and say, you know, he was a great teammate.
I think that's one of the one of the things
that you know, uh, you know, we take for granted,
(24:37):
you know, as players, because you know, we always we
go to work and everybody has the same goal, and
that is to be the best player for your teammates
and to be and try to try to try to
help all of us fulfill a childhood dream of getting
to the pinnacle of the sport. And I always say that,
you know, when your teammates come out and support you
(24:59):
and say, you know, he was a great teammate. He
was a great player, but he was even a better person.
I think that's one of the things that when you
hear that not knowing a person, you know you can
you can, you know, say that, you know what the
people that were closest to him knew him the best,
and and and they come out and when they come
(25:19):
out and say things like that about you, it says
about a lot about you as a person. And you know,
I was watching it and looking at it on TV,
and he was basically at at a charity event, like
a couple of hours before he passed away. So so
the man was out there, you know, giving back to
the community, and it's just unfortunate that, you know, whatever happened,
(25:43):
you know, he's no longer with us. But as far
as I know that, there hasn't been no cause to death. So, uh,
we're all going to find out at the same time
exactly what happened. But you know, prayers go out to
all in this family.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
You know, and that's a it's a great point to
make plexus. Again, let's not speculate on what his you know,
how his demise ultimately came. But it does open the
floor to the conversation of CTE because CTE is being
used in the conversation. It made me start, you know,
(26:17):
thinking to myself. It's like, I know, there's always the
ongoing discussion fellas of well should you be held accountable
for something you know or something you don't know, or
how do you measure it? And I started wondering it
and thinking it for myself because it's like, well, I
(26:38):
was a violent football player, and one of the things
that I was taught at an early age, which I
thought was one of the best techniques I ever had,
because I never saw anyone who could if I could
get in place to do it, that could combat it,
which was butting. I was taught to button when you
get a hold of the blocker and the blocker gets
(26:59):
a hold of you, and he's squared up on you,
because you're not supposed to be squared up on a blocker.
But if y'all are both squared up mano and mono,
more often than not, the guy that's holding on to
you is stronger than you. And I was taught to butting.
So you butt the bottom of their their face mask
and you use the crown in your head and you
(27:20):
butt where their chin would be, and it's a shock.
You shock their body, and then you're able to do
what you need to do to disengage the block One
of the best techniques I ever learned. But am I
sitting there thinking twenty years from now what is the
(27:41):
constant butting of these dudes doing to my brain? Never
really never gave it any hard thought, never gave it
any real, you know, conclusions of substance. None of it
just what is my job and how do I get
it done? So then I asked myself. The next question
fellas was hearing about CTE. Now on the other side
(28:05):
of it, if I were to go through this all
over again, if you were to say, LeVar, you can
come through this, and you're gonna have to deal with
what takes place with the I guess the consequences of
using your head as much as you are going to
use it. But you're gonna have the same exact life
(28:26):
you had if you went over it, and if you
went through it all over again, or you don't get
the life that you have, and you got to take
your chances on what it looks like with you not
having the life that you live playing the game the
way that you did, but you don't have anything that's
connected to the CTE deal, which one would I do?
(28:50):
And maybe I'm I don't know, Maybe I'm a Neanderthal
for it. Maybe I don't have any real I don't
have any real apologies for it, because I have a
father who lost his legs in battle and war, and
he was, you know, he was a warrior for a
soldier for our country when he lost his legs, and
(29:10):
ultimately all of our military people who lose their lives
in battle and I start thinking to myself. While I
will never say that playing ball is the equivalent of
being in a war, I still was raised on the
mentality of a warrior, and so in my mind, even
thinking about what CTE represents, I would do it again
(29:35):
if I could be LeVar Arrington that went out there
and gave it his all, and I actually did it
in a place and in a situation where hundreds of
thousands of people get to witness it, millions of people
around the country, around the world watching get to witness it.
(29:55):
The camaraderie, the friendships, the familyhood. I wouldn't know y'all
outside of football, and we wouldn't be close outside of football,
because it's hard to create the level of respect that
we have for one another outside of the struggle. I
would do it again, fellas. I don't know about you guys,
but I know for me now I think about it.
(30:17):
For my kids, both my sons playing football, What does
that mean for them having that knowledge? It's okay for me.
I don't know that I'm okay for with my sons.
You know, it's a hard it's a hard conversation to
have with yourself. And when these things take place, whether
that's what it is that you know it was with
(30:39):
with Alden or not, whether it's something else. It's still
begged for the question to be asked. How do I
now know? I nowhere up on the break? But would
you guys do it all over again or how how
what would you do differently knowing what CTE is now?
And this all came about after we were done with our careers.
(31:01):
What do you how do you guys see it?
Speaker 4 (31:04):
Oh Man, TJ doing it again? That's a fact.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
TJ for sure going to do it again. Violent I.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Just feel like we, all three of us are on
this show because football brought us together. The first paycheck
I ever got in my life was when I got drafted.
That's the first time technically I ever had a job.
And so I'm knock on wood Man TJ feel like
(31:35):
he's good and if he isn't, you know later down
the road if I'm not, it's unfortunate and it sucks
because I want to be here for my children. I
want to be here as long as I possibly can.
But I'm running it back again like I am. And
(31:57):
I don't know how many guys that have gone through
this process is say they wouldn't run it back again. Man,
being in that locker room playing a game of football,
I don't care what you say, is so damn fun.
We build relationships that last a lifetime and memories. Man.
You just don't get that doing anything else. I don't
(32:18):
believe you do. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, TJ
doing that again. Plex ah Man, absolutely, no doubt, man,
no doubt. Man.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
My hum dropped me off at the football field when
I was seven years old. I didn't look back since,
and uh, you know, not really understanding of what I
was doing, but the game just gave gave me such
a joy and a glow to go out and compete.
And when I was on a football field, it was
like everything in my life was was was great, what
(32:49):
was beautiful. And it's like TJ said, Man, this game
is allowed not only myself but all of us man
to travel all around the world and meet people from
all walks of life into and to uh inspire you know,
young young men and women and all over the world. Man.
So uh uh you know, walking out of that tunnel
(33:10):
man on Sundays and Mondays or whenever you was playing, man,
there was nothing like it. And you know, you look
back at it. He was like, man, what was I
thinking about? You know now that you know, approaching forty
nine years old, but but just but just the pure
joy of it and just being able to go out
there and compete and you know, uh you know you
(33:32):
uh watch your teammates that you that you go to
work with, you know, turn in just two great athletes
and and and moments that you know you would never
never be able to be a part of if if
you was not you know, on that team or in
that locker room. So absolutely, man, I would I would
(33:52):
do it all over again. Uh, you know, one hundred,
one hundred percent, man, no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
Respect and love to Alten Smith as the player, Respecting
love to you as the person, and as you mentioned TJ,
love and prayers to the family. Hope that you guys
find comfort and support from those who loved out and
and loved you guys the most. Hoping for the best
(34:19):
results and whatever it is that the you know, donating
of his brain and the research that goes along with it,
because if they can make things better for the future,
then that would be a great thing. If they can
come up with ways to strategize how to combat CTE
lesson its and effects and all of those different things
(34:42):
that are connected to it. But with that being said,
don't give up on the things that build strong young people.
And I think the game of football is one of
those games that builds strong young people and strong young
men and even nowadays strong young women as as well.
That has to be entered into the conversation as well.
(35:03):

correcting his age. That's interesting. The Cowboys George Pickens contract
Limbo Jamir Gibbs. He's out here training with MMA legends. Fellas,
we got a few minutes. Let's just touch on them

very quickly. First, let's start with Aaron Donald. I'll say
this very quickly. A seventy percent Aaron Donald is Aaron
Donald that could most likely win Defensive Player of the Year. Again,
I think it's just a matter of mentally does he
want to do it? Emotionally does he want to do it?
(38:07):
And how does his his spouse feel about that that decision.
That would be my take on it. But there should
be no question that if he has anything left physically,
I think the bigger question is the emotional mental aspect
of it.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Fellas man, Aaron Donald, if he decides to come back,
that Rams defense in that team is going to be scary.
I met Aaron Donald, I personally don't know him like that.
But the work ethic that we see today what you
(38:47):
imagine how it was when he was playing. And so
when you combine that type of work ethic with the
talent that he has and now Miles Garrett and Byron
Young and Kobe Turner and Brandon Fist, like that ramp,
just that D line will be scary. The Raums team
will be scary. I want him to do it. I
really want to see how this looks. But if he
(39:10):
decides to do it, you know he's gonna be mentally
in physically prepared. And this may be something we haven't
really seen from a defensive front, to have two of
the best pass rush, just two of the best defensive
players on the same team on the same at the
same time, basically playing the same position. We get to
(39:31):
the quarterback, who you're gonna double team. This may be
the first time in Aaron Donald's career he's gonna be single.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Black happened, Yeah, has never happened, man, I mean I
want to see it just for that reason. Man, if
you just look at this man's resume of what he
was able to put together in ten years of playing
in his businessman, and he's like, you know, you look
at his trophy racking. He just says to himself, there's
nothing else for me to accomplish. Three year Defensive Player
of the Year, eight years, first first team All Pro,
(39:58):
eight years in a row. I mean, you get to
a certain point when when he just you just say that,
you know, Aaron Donald is the best defensive tackle that
we've ever seen. And for him to do it and
that's short of time, it's just it's nothing short of remarkable.
But I just ran in on Aaron a few months
(40:18):
ago man Pittsburgh at the draft man, and he still
looks like he can play like right now in the
drop of a dime. I mean, that's what he looks
like to me. And and just just the thought of
Miles Garrett and him playing together. I just don't know
what you do offensively, I mean I really don't. I
want to see it. For that reason. I believe that
(40:41):
if it does happen, the Rams will be the number
one contender this year to win it all, and probably
without him. But I think he's looking at it you
guys know what is like the mythical capacity of a
NFL season. I just gonna come down to him emotionally
and can he get through it from a physical standpoint,
(41:02):
which I believe he can.
