And you give all kinds of tips for people because
it's something you've been through.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yes, absolutely, and you're very honest about all of all
of the things that you had to go through. So
we'll talk about that as well today. But let's start
the show with some love and some positivity. Let's shine
a light eight hundred two nine to two fifty one
fifty Call us up. Let us know who you want
to shine a light on.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
It's way up. We're gonna light the fuck up.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
I'm gonna shine.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Turn your lights on, y'all, spreading love to those who
are doing greatness.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Light, shine a light on.
Speaker 6 (01:09):
It's time to shine a light on them.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
What's up his way up at, Angela? Ye, I'm here
with Jasmine Brands. I'm here, Angela, and today I want
to shine a light on a young man, Jerwan Howard.
He's a youth advocate and he grew up just a
few blocks away from a vacant building on Detroit's West Side.
And it's called the Howard Family Bookstore now because guess what,
he just opened that empty building that was empty for
(01:34):
twenty five years he turned into a bookstore and a
cafe focused on literacy and community.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
That's dope. You love books, Angela.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
What he said is that there is five k through
twelve schools within a one point five mile radius, and
so there are hundreds of students within walking distance. That
bookstore is going to be a meeting place for young
people for reading, creativity, and growth. I love that all right,
So make sure you check out the Howard Family Store now, Charisma,
who do you want to shine a light on?
Speaker 7 (02:03):
I wanted to shine a light on my brother Fame
and my man Kirby. They have an organization called Break
the Cycle, but it's spelled like b R A K and.
Speaker 8 (02:15):
Then the cycle ps y p h O.
Speaker 7 (02:19):
L And they basically are bringing awareness to mental health.
So they just recently took a bike ride from New Jersey.
Speaker 9 (02:26):
To Washington, d C.
Speaker 7 (02:28):
For a total a total of two hundred and forty
one miles.
Speaker 8 (02:32):
So I just want to shine.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
I love that you said your man and your brother
Fam and Kirby. Yes, so they worked together. That's d
that's a real family offeit.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
How did that happen?
Speaker 7 (02:46):
So one day they just were having a conversation I
think between them and two.
Speaker 9 (02:51):
And the phrase came up to break the cycle, and
then they looked at each other and said hmm. So
they do have a website off of called breakthfancro dot com. Okay,
and it has more information on there as well.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
That's dope.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
I love it all right.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
I love when something organically comes together. We need to
start our woman's version of that. We can't yes, we
can don't say that jazz New Jersey to DC.
Speaker 10 (03:17):
Yeah, we can do.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
We can do it, Okay, as long as there's no uphill.
Speaker 7 (03:21):
Exactly no incline, thank you guys for taking the time.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
We thank you for color. We appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Well that was Shina Light eight hundred and two ninety
two fifty one fifty. And when we come back, we
have your yee t you. Okay, we're talking about Nicki Minaj.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Not funny.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Go ahead, yet when we come back, it's way up, it.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Says in the rooms from Industry Shade to all of
gosp out Angela's speeling that.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yet what's up, its way up for Angela Yee and
Jasmine brand is here. Yes, it's time for your yee te. So,
according to TMZ, Nicki Minaj is excess sist then went
to just to sanction her for not turning over potential
evidence in their court battle. Brandon Garrett is saying that
Nicki got physical with him and this all has to
(04:10):
do with picking up a prescription. He says that Nikki
attacked him by hitting him in the face and that
he suffered physical injuries and emotional trauma. He wants Nikki
to cough up thousands and sanctions as a result of
her alleged actions. Okay, yes, Now the lawsuit. Nicki's lawyer
at the time said, at this time, no complaint has
(04:30):
been served and therefore we are unaware of these specific allegations. However,
if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is
completely false and frivolous.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Interesting. She's been really quiet on social media lately.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yes, she was supposed to be at the Republican Yeah, well,
she was supposed to make the White House correspondence dinner.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
But you know, that shooting happened, so everybody got up
out of there.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Trump was peaking from the Hanah curtain trying to see
what was happening.
Speaker 8 (04:56):
All right.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Taylor Swift has taken a new legal step that is
to protect her identity due to AI. She foiled three
trademark applications and it is sound trademarks covering her voice.
Hey it's Tiller Swift, and the other is hey, it's Taylor.
And the third trademark is a visual that covers a
photograph of Tila's Swift holding a pink guitar. Now, according
(05:18):
to reports, this is trademark applications that reflect the concern
that talent has about the potential danger of AI and
stealing your voice and your likeness without consents.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
I'm sure other celebrities are going to be doing the
same thing.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how this
plays out because you know, as AI is kind of
taking over and in a lot of ways, how do
you control that and how do you protect yourself?
Speaker 10 (05:43):
Yeah, and also as a consumer, we don't know sometimes
we can't tell the difference right away.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
You know what's really awful.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
There's been a lot of AI fakes circulating and there
have even been pornographic images on the Internet, and that
has been with her likeness.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
So imagine that and then people be thinking it's real.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
Yeah, especially your family and stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, so that is awful.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
And Speedy Mormon is leaving Complex wo he posted on
his social media end up an incredible era After ten
plus years, I've decided to step away from Complex and
my show three sixty with Speedy, to go independent and
enter into some new partnerships. Getting to work alongside some
of my best friends and travel the world doing what
I love has been the honor of a lifetime.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
I got to see that coming.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Good for him though, Yeah, I mean it has been
over ten years. Yeah, yeah, and maybe he feels like
going independent and there's other opportunities coming at him.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
So you gotta know when to exit.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
You know what that's like, Jasmine Brand and do all right?
Well that is your yeete, And when we come back,
let's talk about my girls. Jasmine Brand put a book out.
I didn't even know about it in advance, How to
Build a.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Business without quitting your job. I did buy it.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
You didn't have to, Angela?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Well why wouldn't I Is that what we're supposed to do? Support?
Speaker 3 (06:57):
You're right, our friends, So I want to talk about
this book today. Also, Jess Hilarious has a book out today,
Till Death Do We Parent?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
It's all about co parenting. It's way up.
Speaker 8 (07:06):
We about to do this.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
One of the lingos to train this women in radio
Vidio open. We're talking about Angela. Yee.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
You're way up with Angela yee.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Please believe that what's up? Its way up with Angela.
Speaker 9 (07:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
I'm here with Jasmine Brand.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
I'm here, and you put out a book I did.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
How to build a business without quitting your job?
Speaker 3 (07:22):
This side hustler schedule from Survival to Empire. Yes, And
I want to talk about this for a minute because
what even inspired you to do this? We didn't even
have a conversation we did know this was happening.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
We didn't.
Speaker 10 (07:33):
But the number one question I get asked when people
come up to me, they're like, once they realize I'm
you know, I'm jazz and Brand, I call own this
media platform the arts, Like should I quit my job?
I had this going on? How'd you know you wanted
to quit your job? How did you know you were ready?
And I can't tell anybody how to quit their job
or if they should quit their job, and so.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Be responsible for that.
Speaker 10 (07:51):
And also when I quit my job or you know,
when I was in a situation, I didn't have any
I had less responsibilities, So I can't tell anyone whether
or not they should quit their jobs. So I wanted
to do something short and sweet that kind of can
give some insight into my process and how you don't
have to necessarily quit your job to kind of pursue
a business on the side.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Now, some people don't know your full story about how
this even happened for you. You actually had a job I did,
and you were given an ultimatum.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
We do well with ultimatum.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
I don't like that either you quit doing your Jasmine
brand entertainment site on the side, or you have to
leave this job and they weren't allowing you to do both.
Speaker 10 (08:32):
Yeah, they felt like it was a conflict of interest
because I was marketing director sounds.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
I paid to me well.
Speaker 10 (08:39):
I did well, And I never had planned on quitting
my job because I didn't want to be entrepreneur. I
was doing it for fun. I was you know, I
wasn't really making money. I had no business plan. I
didn't have a saving set aside for my own business. So,
but they found out about it. It ultimately it was like,
you can't this is a conflict of interest. You can't
do both, and so had they never gave me this ultimatum.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
I did both.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
I would a devote Yeah. I like getting paid on
the paper.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
I want to talk about.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Speaking of getting paid, you discuss how hard it was
for you to even know how to monetize. Yeah, And
you tell a story about Kenny Burns and he wanted
to know what.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Your rates were.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (09:14):
Yeah, Kenny Burns was the first person that got that
paid me. I feel like I think he was with
Greg Goose at the time. I wasn't really running ads
like that because I wasn't doing this to make money.
I was doing this because it was kind of like
a passion. I enjoyed doing it, and so I remember
her asked me like, like what's your rate? And I'm like,
I don't know, So I just made up a number. Yeah,
I added on my bills and that's that was my rate.
(09:37):
And it kind of went from there. But because I didn't,
you know how they always say like you should have
a business plan, you should know like all this, I
just did not know.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
You have to know your numbers, and that's when you
realize you have to get serious, yes about monetizing and
also knowing your value and your worth. You know, a
lot of times people can also get depressed. When you
went through a period of time where you actually got
your car repossessed, Yeah, I got evicted. You got a
that's a lot to go through and not know what's
(10:04):
going to happen next. And you said you were drinking
during that time. How did you pull yourself out of that?
Speaker 10 (10:10):
I think I just kind of was like, Okay, I
can't sustain drinking and popping pills like forever, Like I
can't sustain this. And I was like, you know, this
is my full time job. I got to take this serious.
I can't continue to do this, and I was just like, Okay, well,
you know, I got to figure something out. And so
I just kind of quit cold turkey like doing that
kind of stuff in the morning. And I mean, obviously
that's not everyone's experience, and I don't want to like
downplay like it wasn't a big deal, but it was
(10:32):
kind of like, Okay, if I want to succeed, it's
not I'm not the girl that can do these things
and still succeed. So success was more important to me.
So I just kind of figure out how to make
some adjustments.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
All right, Well, listen, how can people purchase this book
if they're interested in learning more on how to build
a business without quitting your job.
Speaker 10 (10:49):
It is on the jazzminbrand dot com. Also it's in
linked in my Instagram bio the Jazzmine brand.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
And when we come back, we have your yet and
let's talk about Milania Trump to Jimmy kimmeo gone. She
thinks that his jokes are controversial when it's about her,
it's way up.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Angelus feeling that yee te come and get the tea.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
What's up? His way up?
Speaker 3 (11:13):
But Angela, yee I'm here. Jasmine Brand author Jasmine.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Brand is here.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
I'm here, Angela, and let's get into this yet. So
Milania is upset at Jimmy Kimmeo now. She posted yesterday
a statement on her ex account. She said Kimo's hateful
and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Do you think she meant Trump or oh?
Speaker 3 (11:35):
His monologue about my family isn't comedy. His words are
corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America. People like
Kimo shouldn't have the opportunity to enter our homes each
evening to spread hate. She also calls him a coward
and said that he hides behind ABC because he knows
the network we'll keep running covered to protect him. She said,
(11:56):
enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take
a stand. I've never heard her take a stand on
anything else.
Speaker 10 (12:03):
Which makes which makes me think that they put her
up to this, Like, I don't think this is her.
Speaker 8 (12:08):
Who wrote this?
Speaker 3 (12:09):
All right, Well, here is what Jimmy Kimmeo had to
say in his monologue, and honestly, like and wasn't that serious?
Speaker 8 (12:14):
Listen to this our first lady, Milania is here. Look
at more so, beautiful missus Trump, you have about glow
like an expectant widow.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Well, it looks like it's a whole family affair because
Donald Trump also posted wow, you know when you start
will wow. I'm Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny,
as attested to by his terrible television ratings, made a
statement on his show that is really shocking. He showed
a fake video of the First Lady Milania and our
son Baron like they were actually sitting in his studio
(12:42):
listening to him speak, kind of like when he made
himself Jesus in a picture. But anyway, then he said,
a day later, a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of
the White House correspondence dinner, and he is now asking
for Disney and ABC to fire Jimmy Kimmel immediately.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
My gosh, this is too much.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Listen.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
I don't feel like the joke was that bad or
that offensive.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
It was a joke. Yeah, there are real things happening
happening that are way worse. And he said way more awful,
horrible things about people.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
He should be fired in that case.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Now, the person call Thomas Allen, the suspect who was
apprehended after that shooting at the White House correspondence Dinner
was charged yesterday with attempting to assassinate Donald Trump. According
to CNN, he was also charged with discharging a firearm
during a violent crime, and transportation of a firearm and
ammunition and interstate commerce, and he made his first appearance
in federal court yesterday. Okay, I don't know, I don't listen.
(13:40):
I have so many thoughts, but we're gonna wait to
see how this plays out.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Okay, you think it was stage yes or no?
Speaker 8 (13:45):
I do.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Okay, that'll leave me allegedly.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
All right, all right, well that is your ut. And
when we come back, we have under the radar. These
are the stories that are not necessarily the headlines. They're
flying under the radar, but you definitely need to know
about them.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
And the news that relates you. These stories are flying
under the radar.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
What's up? His way up?
Speaker 3 (14:04):
But Angela, Yeah, I'm here with my Gerda Jazzmine, Brian. Yes,
And let's get into some of these under the radar stories.
So there is a new thing that's gone viral on
TikTok and people are now traveling with a pillowcase, and
that is because they don't want to have to check
their extra bag. So let's just say you're getting on
a flight and if you're boarding a plane with a
(14:25):
pillow in your hand. A lot of times people are
using this because of baggage policies. So instead of paying
for a second carry on, you can now fill a
pillowcase with soft clothing and bringing aboard like a travel pillow.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
That's pretty smart. As long as you have a pillow,
the zips, you just you're good.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Yeah, And they're saying flight attendants are paying attention now
and they're well aware of this hack that's trending. Of
course they are, because it's been on TikTok and it's
gone viral. Yeah, and so on one flight attendant JP,
he's a Delta Airlines flight attendant, said that now they're
really noticing this and that while flight attendants are trained
to be friendly and welcoming, they're also scanning passengers and
(15:03):
their carry on items during boarding, and that also means
noting whether the bags look too big, whether somebody has
a suspiciously bulky pillowcase, and that's going to give some
questions about what's inside.
Speaker 10 (15:15):
Because I mean, obviously, if you have a pillowcase that
you will put on your bid. It's like, that's kind
of weird to bring it on the point.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Because you use like a little neck pillar. You wouldn't
be using that, So you know, we'll see. Yeah, just
know that you could get stopped and then if you
try to beef with them, they could say get out.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
All right.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
This Small Business Administration has just referred five hundred and
sixty two thousand borrowers of potentially fraudulent pandemic era loans
that worth over twenty billion dollars to the US Treasury.
So if you took out one of those loans during
the pandemic, then you may want to make sure that
you are aware that you may need a lawyer.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
I can't believe we're still they're still going after people.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
I mean, it was a lot of money, but those
big corporations got away with it no problem. It's just
the average everyday person and they're seeing a lot of
this fraud and I've seen people getting arrested all over
the place. They're going to start collection efforts and they're
dealing with the Department of Justice, and so we shall see.
But if you knowingly lied on applications, if you inflated payrolls,
(16:21):
if you use fake businesses or if you misuse those loans,
then it could be more than just collections for you.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
You could actually end up going to jail.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
I don't like that.
Speaker 10 (16:29):
I'm okay with the collections, but I don't feel like
non violent crimes, like we don't need to be taking
up space.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
And you know, come on, all right, we're going to
see well that is your under the radar. We do
have the way it mixed for you. At the top
of the hour, we have some more yet, and Jess
Hilarious is going to be joining us. Her book is
out today, Till Death Do We Parent? This is all
about her co parents, and I learned a lot of
things about her from reading all about what it was
like for her having her first child at the age
(16:54):
of nineteen.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
It's way up.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Of course, she came with receipts. It's time to spiel A.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (17:02):
His way up at Angela?
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Yee?
Speaker 2 (17:03):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Jasmine Brands, what's up Angela?
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Let's get into this yet so I show speed. You know,
he's doing this whole Caribbean tour.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
He's actually in Saint Martin, Okay, and part of that tour,
he announced that he's hitting up Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Puerto Rico,
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, among other things. He's done
tours of multiple regions, amazing situations. I feel like I
saw him in Trinidad and Tobago really having a time.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
I don't know if you saw.
Speaker 8 (17:30):
That video footage.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Yeah, so he's going to Saint Martin.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
I feel like you should be in Saint Thomas for Carnival,
but I'm not sure.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
I cannot.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
I cannot confirm nor deny whether that's going to be
happening or not. But he is the first person to
live stream, the first streamer to go under the water,
go scuba diving and do that live.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Yeow, that's really dope. He's super creative.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Yeah, and listen, I can't swim, so it was really
interesting for me to have a chance to see that.
He said he's compelled to do so many world tour
streams because people dream about going to places like to Africa,
Safari and things like that. So he's giving you the
best experience. It's not a cut down video, it's the
best live experience. I liked that, all right, And congratulations
(18:16):
to Harry Styles and Zoe Kravitz. They are engaged, according
to people, so there's no word on a potential wedding date,
but they did go public. I think it was like
eight months ago, so congratulations to them. Lizzo has announced
a new album that's coming out June fifth, and it's
called Okay.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
All.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
She did say reclaiming the word is power is taking
a label once used to diminish women and turning it
into a declaration of confidence and unapologetic self love.
Speaker 10 (18:45):
I wonder what this is gonna sound like, more like
pop or raps you've been doing with rap and stuff.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
I wonder what it's gonna sound like.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Dan was looking at me crazy when I said that word,
but it's the name of her album. Sorry if I
say that on the air, Oh my god, I'm kidding now.
Alsia Key's also that she's working on a new album.
She said, it's hard for me to share what the
direction is. I have trouble labeling things, but I will
say there is a craft and ability to write songs
that mean something to people, which has given me longevity,
(19:11):
and you'll hear that in the new album. She also
called out the music industries good Old Boy Network and
she said the music industry still runs like that, and
she told Variety all the incredible women working as engineers
and producers are not given an open door. So she
has now said she's moving with intention, and Vince Staples
(19:31):
has returned. He revealed a new album release date, cry
Baby is going to be coming out in June. And
here is this is a rock song. It's called BlackBerry Marmalade.
Speaker 8 (19:41):
I'm this one.
Speaker 11 (19:42):
Then she used to tell me about it. Black Bear malays.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
The best problem.
Speaker 11 (19:55):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Now, this is his first ever studio singer since Dark
Times in May twenty twenty four, so.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
I'm not a rock girly, but okay, okay.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Well that's going to be on streaming services next week,
so you can stay tuned for more information on his
cry Baby release.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
And that is your yee tea.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
When we come back, we have ask Ye eight hundred
and two nine two fifty one fifty any question you have,
Me and Jasmine Brand are here to help you out.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
It's way up right, since whether it's relationship or career advice,
Angela's dropping facts.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
You should know. This is ask Kee, what's up?
Speaker 3 (20:31):
It's way up at Angela yee, and it is time
to ask ye, Jasmine Brand is here.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Yes, I'm here, and.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
We have Jiggy on the line. What up, Jiggy?
Speaker 6 (20:39):
Like up, what are you?
Speaker 2 (20:41):
What's your question today?
Speaker 6 (20:42):
I'm going through it right now. Just got out of relationships.
I was out here doing doing.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
He was outside. You was for the streets.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
Yeah, I was outside, but you know I came back
to shore. She was extremely I was extremely remorseful, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (20:57):
She was like, you know what, let's.
Speaker 11 (20:58):
Let's just pass it. So we worked from a pass
it and then she put the reverse because it's literally
like put the.
Speaker 6 (21:09):
Draw on me. So my question is, right, I'm looking
to go back to the street, able to go back
to the streets. But at the same time, you know,
I'm used to being in a relationship.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
That is never a reason to stay with somebody because
you're used to I agree.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
So so yeah, my question is, you know, should I
end up staying because it's something I'm used to it,
I just go try something new and just go back
to the streets. But but I'm a reform street person now.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
You know, reform street walker.
Speaker 6 (21:40):
Yeah, yeah, yeah walker.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Two things here.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Yes, don't be in a relationship with somebody if you'll
just gonna cheat on each other, like it just is
a waste of time and it makes no sense. You
hurt her, then she hurts you back. It's like a
never ending cycle until you'll both grow up. I mean,
it's ridiculous. Secondly, you don't got to be in this.
It's not relationship or in the streets. There's an in between,
you know what I'm saying. The in between is you
(22:07):
can still be a good person, you can still look
for somebody quality you don't have. Dating in the streets
necessarily in the streets is like I'm outside yet.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Yeah, you don't have to do it.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
You probably already ran through. Don't do it like this.
But also, and this is this is a good time
for him, we're not.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
But this is asked you not tell us a secret.
If you want to be for the streets, just don't
have high expectations.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
And I think that you just have to know what
you're looking for.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
If you're just looking for a good time, not a
long time, then go ahead, do you. But if you
want somebody that you're like, I want to rely on
someone like that's my girl, and then you have to
move accordingly.
Speaker 6 (22:52):
I agree, I agree, that's some good advice.
Speaker 10 (22:55):
And you might not be able to keep up out
out in the streets like you thought you could too,
so you might it's expensive.
Speaker 6 (22:59):
Yeah, you know, yeah, I don't like your negativity.
Speaker 7 (23:03):
You know.
Speaker 6 (23:04):
First, you know, I was, I was already running through
And now thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
And check back in with us. But you know, good
luck get out of that toxic relationship.
Speaker 6 (23:18):
Gotcha, We'll do appreciate, Joe.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
That was ask ye eight hundred and two nine two
fifty one fifty in case you couldn't get through.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
And when we come back, Jess Hilarious is here.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Her book Till Death Dewey Parent is available today in
stores online on Audible.
Speaker 12 (23:33):
It's way up, y'all, more way up with Angela on
now What's up?
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Is way up at Angela Yee and Jess Hilarious has
left the breakfast club and now she's on way but listen,
Jess Hilarious. First of all, I'm so glad to have
you in here. I was excited that they said you
were going to come and do way up for your
book Till Death Dewey Parents. So congratulations, thank you angel
on this project. And initially you talk about what made
(24:03):
you write this book about co parenting as opposed to
another book?
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Why was this on your heart? First?
Speaker 8 (24:09):
Well, me and my son's father.
Speaker 12 (24:10):
Everywhere we go, people are like, how do y'all Why
do y'all call each other brother and sister? How the
hell can you even look at somebody that she wants
laid with and had a baby with as a brother.
I think that that response is always because of the
stigma that's been put on black families especially. People always
feel like in black families, when the relationship doesn't make it, girl,
(24:32):
that's the end of everything. It's impossible to have a
co parenting relationship, right Like, they always feel like it
has to be dysfunction or toxicity or whatever, and that's
not me and wrong. Now, we didn't always had to
get there. Yeah, we had to get thier. It's a
roller coaster, But I love how we ended up, right,
And that's that's pretty much why I wanted.
Speaker 8 (24:53):
To write the book.
Speaker 9 (24:54):
Now.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
I'm glad you said it because there are people listening
right now who are going through it and to know
that they could come through on the other side and
actually be friends And may feel impossible at a certain time,
but I think for you You've always said. The goal
is that you have to make sure that ash your
son is good. Yes, right now talking to that's hilarious.
Her book Till Death Do We Parent is available today.
(25:17):
When it comes to Ashton knowing the story about how
he was brought onto this planet and has he read
this in advance?
Speaker 12 (25:25):
Not yet, but he said he will. And I am
nervous about that.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
That's what I wanted to ask because listen, trusting believe
my dad would be like you almost was here, you know,
because the decisions that parents have to make. But it's
a reality and it was a blessing to have him.
But does he know the full story of how No? Okay, no,
he does not. And that's one thing in writing the book.
Speaker 12 (25:52):
That's why I was wrestling back and forth mentally, like,
oh do I put the part in here about not
even wanting him until he was like five six months.
I was wrestling back and forth in my mom because
I'm like, I never want him to feel like, well, damn,
you didn't want me, but you wanted my little sister.
(26:13):
But at the same time, I'm like, I have to
I can't leave out these important parts because this can
help somebody. I was nineteen and I was twenty when
I had him, and I remember breaking down and I'm
crying ashing the crib and I'm like, yo, why would
you pick me to be your mother? Like why would
you even pick me to do this? I don't know
what I'm doing. And he did like a little aside smirk,
(26:34):
like as a six month old baby.
Speaker 8 (26:36):
I swear Angela.
Speaker 12 (26:37):
He was like like he just side smirk as if
to say, like, girl, you're doing too much.
Speaker 8 (26:42):
You gotta relax, like whatever I the next be it,
but you're gonna take care of me.
Speaker 12 (26:46):
And right then and there, like I looked in the mirror,
I do want you. I'm ready to be a mom.
I don't care what I gotta do.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
And that was also I'm sure postpartum is a real thing. Yes,
when you look back at it and think, you may
not realize.
Speaker 8 (26:57):
I did not know.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
There are women that feel so guilty to having a baby,
a feeling like what did I do?
Speaker 12 (27:02):
I don't honestly, I wanted to give him to my
mother and just run away.
Speaker 8 (27:07):
I wanted to hurt Roams so bad, like girl was
a lot.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
And imagine going through all of that and he's running
around with other women having the time of his life.
Speaker 12 (27:17):
On my Space face book like yay am out head,
what's up y'all?
Speaker 8 (27:23):
Like girl, oh my god, a real life Jodi from
Baby Boy. That's what he was.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Justs hilarious is here and her new book, Tell Death
Dewy Parent is out today. We're having a time talking
about her past relationships, what she's got going on, what
she learned from them, what it's like to successfully co parent.
It's way up you vibing Way up with Angela Yee
more now what's up his Way up with Angela Yee
(27:47):
and jests hilarious is here. That's right, She's not just
on the Breakfast Club. She's a guest today on Way
Up with Angela Yee. Her book Till Death Dewey Parent
is out today.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
One of the.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
Things that you managed to get over and I'm not
gonna get away too much of the buck, but this
is early on where you guys have his first birthday party. Yes,
and Rome showed up with a whole other check late. Yes,
and you had no idea he was going to do that.
You had a plan, but to his defense, you did
tell him the kid wasn't here.
Speaker 12 (28:18):
I know, I rang the bell, y'all, I sure did,
and you're never supposed to do that.
Speaker 8 (28:23):
Ladies do not ever do that.
Speaker 12 (28:25):
How that comment even came about me telling him that
we was already arguing because somebody and we would were
in a car and somebody had called his phone and
you know how the phone plugged up to the car,
but they don't want to answer it, and it's like, no,
I answer to white.
Speaker 8 (28:38):
Is somebody from school showing no? And she helped me
with my homework.
Speaker 12 (28:41):
Huh okay, So if it's your tutor, answer the phone,
and it was somebody he was dealing with, you know
what I mean. And so we were arguing about it
that whole night, and I was like, that's why your son.
Speaker 8 (28:51):
Not chure us anyway. And I expected for him to,
I know, I expected him to keep going back and
forth like be this, beat that or whatever. He did
like took a deep breath and he hung up the phone.
I was like, oh my god, Oh my god. And
it's because I was so used to the argument.
Speaker 12 (29:06):
So then we do the birthday party and he show
up like two hours late with another girl with greasy ass,
trick crazy but.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
She didn't know what was going on.
Speaker 8 (29:16):
She did not know what was going on. I'm not okay, yeah,
I know, and I'm saying those since good too. I've
seen the sist.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Flip flaps to her feet with hair off the bank.
Speaker 12 (29:28):
Very much dirty, I know, I know because of flip flops.
But girl, yes, and he came in there I'm talking about.
He came in and looking like he was at his
album release party. Like ready, my brother was whip his
ass too. Thank God for the brother, Thank God.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Thank right now talking to Jess Hilarious, her book Till
Death Dewy Parent is available today. You've been through so
much in that relationship and you really did try to
hold on. But in the midst of all that, you
also moved on with somebody that could have been great,
but that was God's plans.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
No at that time or your plan.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Your goal in your head, in your mind, you really
wanted to have this family, you know, and be with
the man. And even no matter what he did, he
could always manage to talk his way and maneuver his
back way in there with you. When do you feel
like that window finally closed.
Speaker 8 (30:19):
When I changed my mindset.
Speaker 12 (30:20):
I had to change my mindset and the mindset that
I had before was like, no matter what you know,
I'm not going to give up romas going to somehow
wake up and smell the coffee one day and be like, Yo,
I got a good girl. I'm laying I'm retiring the
player Jersey. I'm going to be with her, We're gonna
have more kids, I'm gonna marry her. Blah blah blah.
(30:41):
That's what my fairy tale was in my mind. That
was my whole mindset. I'm going to be a wife
and a mother. Once I stopped trying to force that
peace into the puzzle that it didn't belong, I changed
my mindset. I'm like, Okay, I just need to accept
that this is going to be a cycle of behavior
that I have to change and let that go. Because
(31:03):
just because we don't make it, just because he ain't
my person, that's not.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
The Endess Hilarious is here with me today.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Now.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Normally you guys would have the last word when we
come back, But why wouldn't I let Jess Hilarious talk
about till death Dewey parent and have the last word.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
It's way up.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
This is way up with Angela.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Let's go.
Speaker 8 (31:21):
You are a media maven, right you.
Speaker 12 (31:23):
Never know what AND's gonna say.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
What's up his way up?
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Budd Angela. Ye, normally this is where you would have
the last word, but Todayess Hilarious is here, her book
Till Death Dewey.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
Parent is out right now.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
I just want to talk about now because you've always
done just with the mess, You've always done your stand up.
But it's different for people now when they hear you
on the radio on the Breakfast Claus and then you
have to report on things, and sometimes people don't like it.
Speaker 7 (31:48):
Girl.
Speaker 12 (31:49):
That job is for a journalist. That's what that is,
and that is not what I am. I am a
comedian that do commentary on headlines.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
I'll run into people sometimes if I report or something,
they'll be mad about it, and I'm like, why are
y'all mad at me for reporting something that everybody else?
And the other thing I realized too, is that you
could talk great about somebody a thousand times.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
If there's one time that.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
You're like, yeah, I didn't really like that song or whatever,
then that's a problem.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
It's a problem.
Speaker 8 (32:16):
They forget everything else that you said.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Acknowledge that. It's not like they hit you up like
thank you for saying that. What has that adjustment been
like for you?
Speaker 12 (32:24):
Though, To be honest, the only person that got mad
at me saying anything, it's still sexy, Rid, It's still sexy.
Speaker 8 (32:32):
She was upset.
Speaker 12 (32:34):
She walked in and I was like, she was pregnant
out with the ug and she was like, I.
Speaker 8 (32:37):
Don't do what you just like it? And I was like,
damn what I do?
Speaker 12 (32:42):
And she couldn't even remember what I did. I think
I called it like adeb or something like something that's
like you. That's a remark that I learned from my
white friends in high school, like you do weep. She
ain't like that, you know what I mean. But after
like ten minutes she was cool. By the end of
the interview, she was inviting me to the baby shower
and everything. So it really wasn't problem.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Problem Right now I'm talking to justs hilarious. Her book
Till Death dew we Parent is available today.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
What about waking up early?
Speaker 8 (33:07):
I'm still trying to adjust today that.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Let me tell you, that's something I never adjusted to.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
You never adjusted to doing in my life, got used
to get People would say, oh, you're used to it now,
and I felt like, damn, Jess is pregnant and they
had a newborn and they had to get up early.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
That's a lot of work.
Speaker 8 (33:23):
Yes, doing makeup. Listen.
Speaker 12 (33:25):
When I first got the job, I was like, you
know what, I'm gonna try to make a fashion statement
every day.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Oh yeah, it's not gonna wear girl, No getting up
at three thirty. I used to be in my sweats
every day. People would be like, exac sh sorry, I
got dressed. Sometimes I'll get dressed in the dark. Yeah,
because my eye is not fully over adjusted, and you'll
be like, oh, it's don't match.
Speaker 8 (33:45):
Oh you wouldn't even youn't even.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
See till I have to work, And I know, but
it feels good. They're going on tour for the book
as well.
Speaker 8 (33:52):
Yes i am. I'm on a promo tour for the book.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
That's amazing. Yeah does it so? Does it feel good?
Speaker 6 (33:57):
Like?
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Does feel good? Just in an amazing space?
Speaker 8 (34:00):
Yes? It listened a year.
Speaker 12 (34:04):
Yes, I just celebrated a year of marriage with my
husband Chris, and girl, guess what I did a day
before the anniversary lost my ring girl.
Speaker 8 (34:14):
No, okay, no, wear somebody else try. I still a job. No, no,
not not for a second time. Take one person. I
lost my ring. Yes I did, damn.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Is it insured?
Speaker 12 (34:30):
Yes, of course, yes, it's insured. So yeah, but it
just hurts you that I didn't.
Speaker 10 (34:35):
I know.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Well, listen till death, Dewey parent. Congratulations, it's nice to
see where you are today. And this is amazing to
see the journey that it took for you to get there.
But I know people will relate to this and they're
gonna love to hear your story and they're going to
take some gems from it. And hopefully this is gonna
make people, if they're in this situation, figure out why
so they can co parent more effectively.
Speaker 8 (34:55):
Yes, thank you, Angela. I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
I appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Yes makes you you watch that foot interview on my
YouTube channel and just know that I'm heading out the
same time and so follow my journey.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
