I do want to ask you this. So I went
to Mexico. I had a chance to go to our toulons.
Before I went there, I went and looked at their
page and I say, you went there too, Yes, And
I want to know, did you do the ayahuasca?

I did?

I did the paod, I tried to do everything. But
it wasn't my first time doing ayahuasca. I really truly
enjoyed the experience because it felt private.

But what does that do for you? Like, what do
you experience? What is that like? Because I've never done it.

Speaker 7 (04:48):
Well, it's very, I want to say, like a grounding
self realization experience.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
It is during the night.

Speaker 7 (04:56):
They have different strands of aya and aya kind of
meet you where you are. Like the first time I
experienced ayahuasca, it was different from this last one. The
last one was very soft and gentle and all of
the things that I needed to receive from myself I got.
But the first time it was turned up, yea, yeah,

it was turned up. It was like I was outside
of myself, like observing myself.

But it was fun.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
All right, I feel comfortable because you did it. I'm like, no,
you love it. It's such a great experience.

And when I say it's the experience of self, it's
like literally like if you have questions, because that's something
that they encourage, something you want to know about yourself,
or something you want the universe to.

Reveal to you. It literally does. So it took great experience.

You have over two hundred plants in your space in Brooklyn.

I do.

And this is a journey that you've been on for
how long?

Speaker 4 (14:39):
Now about I've been a plant queen for all of
my life. But my first plan I got in like
twenty fifteen twenty fourteen. Okay, it's been a little over
a decade. Plants bring me so much joy.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
One of the first things that I wanted when I moved,
when I have more space, was to finally have some
plans because I also know the benefits that they provide,
you know, in the air for quality of air. And
for anybody listening that is like trying to figure out
because it's such a journey. I just remember like googling
what plants can live because it was a rough winter here.

(15:11):
I know for a lot of us, me in particular,
I'm like, how do I keep these plants alive? It's
one thing. They look so good when you buy them.
Bring up you need to Yeah. So if you're talking
to somebody like me, right, and I'm just picking your
brain for advice, that's why listen, you're helping me. Okay.
If you have to say, okay, I live in a

place where it's not always warm, right, and the plants
are indoors, it's not always sunlight, and everything's not going
to be in the window. What are some good plants
that are going to live? But if we take care
of them but also are good for us, Like in
the home ones So these.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
Are three starter plants. So the pothos is a very
mighty resilient plant. It's actually considered in the basis species
in some countries.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
That's how good she grows, right, Okay, I think I
have that.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Yeah, So I mean a lot of people have it
and like it's a wonderful plant.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
Then the easy plant, I have that too. Oh come,
we're power.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Okay, you got the look.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
And then the snake plant.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yes, the snake days I feel like have been the
easiest for me.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
That snake plant.

Hello, snake plants are they thrive with a little neglect.
And so I encourage folk to start with those three plants,
these snake plant and potho. But I encourage both to
kind of do like a self reflection of like what
kind of care do you enjoy giving? Are you a
queen on the go and you're like, girl, I just
need something, I need a little drop water and then
like we'll figure it out. Or are you like an

over water where you may need like an orchid or
an African violet that requires like a little bit more attention.
But I encourage both to kind of do that like
internal reflection. I mean, I think it's good for life.

It's been devastating for me because some of my plants
have just not made it through their first year on
this planet. And I honestly feel terrible and sometimes it
feels out of control when you see the leaves turning brown,
you know, and you're like, how can I revive this plant?

Speaker 4 (17:12):
I think we have to give ourselves grace when we're
bringing plants into our homes. I mean we're basically bringing
needs living wild creatures into caves with windows our homes.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Like the average person does not have a nursery, right, Like,
they are.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Coming from the very pristine, perfect conditions setting and then
we're bringing them into a very different environment.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
So I think we have to give ourselves grace.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
When we're bringing plants into our homes and understanding that
how they grow in nurseries will not be how they
grow in our home. Like I don't believe in a
green from I believe in a green muscle or something
you build over time with Like any skill, right, you
have to practice and a part of that practice is
plants dying. You know, I had a little botanical garden
in the sky. I got a lot of plants, all right.

I need help. My plants are dying. How do you
know when.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
You've overwatered a plant child?

Speaker 4 (18:29):
There's a lot of signs, but sometimes it looks the
same as other issues, whether that's like a deficiency in
nutrients or not enough sunlight and so for watering, the
trick is always to check out the soil before you
water it. Okay, right, finger in so you know, if
you got your nails done, you're like a girl. Get yes,

(18:50):
you know it's this extensive. There are soil probs that
you can stick in one of those. Okay, you turn
it and it like takes out soil from different parts
of the pot and you can feel that, right, also
just being a routine, but then also it's like understanding
the plant that you're bringing into your home. So like, folks,

(19:10):
so like I'm looking at the plant care tips, I
think you go a step further and what is the
natural habitat this plant comes from?

Speaker 3 (19:17):
And so sometimes it looks like soggy soil.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
Sometimes it looks like ritting roots or mold on the
top soil, and if.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
It happens, you kind of have to take the plant
out and read.

Speaker 6 (19:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
So, but sometimes it gets to the point where the
root system is so damaged. Because as much as our
plants need water, they need air, right, and so sometimes
the root system is so damaged that is you can't
save it. So what you could do is propagate it,
right and take a snipping of the plant and then
regrow it. I've done that with multiple plants, Okay, multiple plants,

and it works.

Right now, I'm talking to best selling author You Grow Girl,
Plant Queens Less Guide to Grow in your gu and
plant Queen is here. So this one plant a rubber
plant that would look like it was, you know, not
doing well this winter. I got a humidifier, and I
want to be honest, that humidifier perck things up for me,
like damn near instantly.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
Yes, you know, there's the perfection that if you spread
the leaves of a plant, that's humidity.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
That's not humidity.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
That's like you're putting moisture on the leaves, which invites
past and bacteria all that stuff. So I encourage folks
not to do that. Cominity is the local moisture in
the air. It allows the plant to go through this
photosynthesis easier. Okay, and we're mimicking the natural habitat.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Yeah, that's what I think. It really saved my plant.
I was like trying, but I can't put a humidifier
by all of them.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
I just got one. And that's all you need is
to start with that.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
Start with you can, but you're witnessing how the experimentation
and the thing that you're trying is improving, you know.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
And do you need to repot your plant?

Speaker 3 (21:01):
I would say every year to two years. However, sometimes
if not, some folks are like, oh my.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
God, when you repot it need a larger pot as
well sometimes repotting, it's just changing the soil.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Well, I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
You grow girl.
