Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is parent Data. I'm Emily Oster. At the risk
of getting a little mushy, parent data is kind of
like another kid for me. You conceive something, you just
state it, you think about it a lot in the
middle of the night, you put it out into the world,
and you hope, with a lot of luck and a

(00:21):
lot of guidance, that it thrives. This last five years
of parent Data have been a wild ride. I went
from a plan for writing a newsletter to a few
thousand readers twice a month, to providing COVID guidance to
hundreds of thousands of people, to this current moment, when
this is a full fledged startup with a website, subscriptions,

(00:44):
and an amazing internal team that supports all the work.
Startups and kids have a lot in common. They demand
your time and your energy. They provide both very high
highs and very low lows. Require prioritization. You always need
to think about what extracurriculars you want to sign up for,

(01:06):
what's worth experimenting with, what's worth pursuing, and what to
stop piano soccer making a podcast. We've been producing the
parent Data podcast since the fall of twenty twenty three.
We here is me and my extraordinary producer Tomorrow. Over

(01:29):
the course of over sixty episodes, I've had the chance
to talk to so many incredible thinkers, journalists, medical professionals,
mental health professionals. We've gabbed about placentas and baby salting,
peanut allergies, and screen time, sleep and summer camp. That
was my favorite episode. We've been true to our mission,

(01:51):
which is to provide the best data driven analysis to
your most pressing parenting concerns, but with an extra human
touch of hearing real people talk about their real kids
and their real passions and their fears. And you've heard
me talk about my own kids' births, my own pelvic floor,
my anecdotal experience with device hygiene, my marriage, basically all

(02:15):
of my own idiosyncratic parenting journeys. And we've had an
amazing response from you. You've contributed your own voices, your questions.
You've written to us to say when something particularly touched you,
or to tell me what you feel I've gotten wrong,
and more than anything, you've been listening. And that means

(02:36):
more to Tomorrow and I than you can imagine. But
now it's time to hang it up, at least for
the time being. We've got so much happening and more
in the pipeline, and I'm looking forward to giving my
voice arrest and letting my fingers do more talking. Writing
has always been my favorite and it's still where I

(02:57):
want to spend more of my time. Plus, as of
this recording, Tamor's having her baby literally any minute now,
and I think we're all looking forward to a well
deserved break. But first some thank you. Thank you to
all our guests for their time, their honesty, their insights.
Thank you to PRX for their generous hosting, and to

(03:20):
the Parent Data team for all their invaluable help with feedback, participation,
partnerships and always being willing to be an extra set
of ears. And thank you especially to my producer Tomorrow
of Ashy for really being everything here. If you ever
get a chance to make a podcast, I hope that
you have a partner as extraordinary as Tomorrow, someone who

(03:43):
holds everything to the very very highest standard and is
willing to say drive to a summer camp and talk
to kids about their friendship bracelets. Thank you, Tomorrow, really
thank you, And finally thanks to you for listen. Thank
you for sharing episodes and episode ideas, and I hope

(04:04):
you'll continue to share the episodes that helped you or
challenged you or felt meaningful to you. We are really
proud to have this resource Evergreen, out in the world,
right Penelope, Right, mam. That's goodbye for now.
