Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome in all you faithfuls and traders to another episode
of By order of the Faithfuls, we will be recapping
season fifty of Survivor on our show today, Richard Hatch,
let's talk about Survivor the first episode of season fifty,
just because there's a lot to kind of mull through
as this show is. Well, this is the biggest cast
(00:24):
I think they've ever had. What do you think about that?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Is it too much?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Like?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
For me? There was so much exposition, right, it was
a three hour first episode because you had to slog
through the first hour to kind of like remind everyone
who everyone is. What are your thoughts on the amount
of cast that they had for season fifty, Well, one.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Of the things I know about Survivor fans is that
they're rabid, and so for the fiftieth season, you know,
there are a lot of people who know all of them,
who know all fifty who are out there. Yeah, and yes,
they still had to do what you're saying, introduce the
players and that took a long time. But I don't
mind the number this time because they are known and again,
(01:12):
I'm not going to pay a lot of attention to
who these early ones are you know, Jenna and I
played together, and I thought she might have learned a
little more than it looked like she learned last night.
She was playing much harder and kind of appeared to
me to be tone deaf.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah, you know, a little hard and loose is how
I was thinking of it.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I agree with you. Yeah, And if she hadn't, she
probably could have done better, because I think she did
learn a lot about the game and knows how to
play better than what happened. So I feel for her.
I wish she'd lasted longer, but I don't mind the
twenty four. I think that number is okay, and we'll
whittle them down just like always happens and challenges and
(01:57):
as the game progresses.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
What did you think about?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Is he making believe that he's emotional? Like that? He
just started crying out of nowhere.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
I'm like, by the way, another DENI you need to know, Richard,
Dolores never cries. She has a black, black heart, and
every time anyone cries, she gets very upset on TV.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
So look, I love the woman because she's got a brain.
It's just like, wait, what you know, what are you doing? Yeah,
if you're going to start crying. You're supposed to be
a survivor.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Act like one. I do not, really, I cannot do it.
He you know that.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
He starts getting a little talk about you know, you're
annoying at first, but I'm going to try to be here.
You're twenty five years old, and I remember when I
was twenty five doing this.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
And then he starts crying. I'm like, I'm done, I'm done.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Well.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
That is an example of your last question. This is
an example of the behind the scenes stuff. This is
stuff that Jeff as executive producer now likes. He likes this.
He calls it family fun Emily style, and what he's
trying to do is use the participants who are that
emotional and reflect for CBS and himself this kind of
(03:13):
emotion loving, I know what you're saying, politically correct kind
of stuff instead of hard players and exposing who we
are hard viewers. Then talk about it later.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
So give me a hard player. And I want to
see somebody cry for a reason. I want to give
you a reason a cry. I want something to happen
to your friend or you had to make a decision
and you're so tired and you're so broken down. Now
you're getting emotional two weeks in and you're hungry and
you're tired, and now I'm going to give you a
(03:51):
reason a cry not talking.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
To but in the first first episode, and the kid's
balling because this guy reminds him of his father.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Come on, was done, double rizzo, I'm done.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
I also kind of felt bad for Colby in that moment,
because I'm sure he's like, I know, I'm not that old,
Like why.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
You know, my father's forty seven.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, Like I'm jacked. I'm like young looking, don't call
me dad over.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
I think he was sorry he started the conversation, and
that's like when you get to know that's like getting
to know the people. Now, I want to get to
know the people, and then I'm going to tell you
who I think is going to make question by the
intestinal fortitude that I see in somebody like.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
You, which thanks I know a lot of them pretty well.
Like Colby and I have history. We were on All
Stars together and I looked him in the eye and
we were in the ocean, and he had he had
some really funny lines like you know, can I call
a naked gay man a stud? When I caught a
shark you know, he was hysterical. But I'm like, listen, Colby,
(04:56):
if you and Kathy kick my ass out of here,
you're next. And she goes after that, listen, here's why.
And I was so clear, and you know, I get
the game. I've got proof I know how to play this.
Listen to me, pay attention. Yeah, get rid of me
at some point, but use me until you go far
enough in the game. He didn't listen. They got rid
(05:19):
of me him and Kathy what he went next? And
Kathy went right after. I mean, and here he is playing,
and we'll see. I'm not seeing the same kind of
detachment and awareness with adaptability that's necessary for Colby to
go farther. So I don't know, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Were you annoyed and men?
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Dolores answers to by Coach's speech, this inspirational speech to
start the show, or were you no end annoyed to.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Bad so bad? Rich?
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Rich?
Speaker 5 (05:51):
Me and you should watch it together. Now I'm gonna
tell you right now, Like I was like.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Oh God, here we go. But do they call you rich?
Speaker 5 (05:59):
I'm just curious, is people going on the show, does
anybody call you for advice before they get there?
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah? They really do. And some of them, like one
in particular that I can think of, on a couple
of seasons ago, called me long before she even applied,
and came to Newport and brought her friends and we
hung out and then she asked me all kinds of
strategy and let's plan and talk, and then applied and
got selected and did pretty well. Ah, she listened, many
(06:28):
have One was a professor who teaching in college, and
he had me zoom into his class and then got
selected to go on Survivor later, et cetera. So's it's
we're in the what now? Thousand almost a thousand Survivor
participants over these fifty.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Was crazy crazy and you were number one?
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah? Yeah, long time ago. Fun game, but you can
the game is still the same from my perspective, or
very very similar. They market and talk about this new
era versus old school, and you know, how could an
old school compete at full crap? I mean I went
into that game without knowing a lot of stuff and
(07:07):
had to play the way I played. I would go
into one of these with idols and whatever the other
twists are, and I'd play the way you need to play.
There A good player is going to be adaptive and flexible.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
I could do it well.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
There's a lot of players there, split up into three
different tribes, and we kind of learned that the show
is going to be dictated by what the fans want,
which is I do think it's that's a fun way
of being more interactive with a gigantic fan base. The
first challenge starts, so it includes digging yourself under a log,
(07:43):
unlocking a puzzle, tugging a boat out into the ocean,
retrieving a torch, and eventually lighting that torch to win.
Team Batu wins. They're rewarded with flint and a giant
bonfire back at camp, I wanted to ask you this
because especially what happened to it the was it Kyle
who got hurt?
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Later on?
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Is there a thought of I want to win and
I want to hustle and I want to work hard,
but I need to be safe because you know, the
most of the best ability is availability right in this game,
and if you get hurt, you're kind of screwed.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Do you go into.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Challenges being like, Okay, I want to be fast, I
want to be quick, I want to be strong, but
I want to be smart.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Well, I think I go into everything where I want
to be smart, but I don't. I don't know if
there's much hesitation when it comes to challenges, because sometimes
you have to go all out. But in Survivor, winning
challenges isn't the end all and be all. You know,
getting to the end and having the jury vote for
you is what the game's about. There are lots of players, Russell,
a whole bunch of players who who thought, oh I
(08:47):
was robbed and and you know, I've made I won
all everything. I kept winning challenges. Ozzie, who's out there now,
had had won what five challenges in some of the
seasons He's played crazy, But that doesn't get you to winning. Yeah,
that's just a kind of a distraction. And so imagine
if on Bachelor of Paradise they fans got to tell
(09:10):
you who you had to date. Yeah, oh, there's a
fun twist, but it's still a distraction. You've got a date,
and you know, get it's still got nothing to do
with what you're gonna do. You're gonna do what you
need to do. I get it. It makes the game
interesting and all of that stuff, and so does some
of the twists. But you've got to stay focused on
what the game's about, and that's you being the last
(09:33):
one who this jury says you get the money.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah, wow, they send you.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Know, each tribe has to send one person to compete
in an individual challenge for tribe supplies.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
You know.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
I remember doing Traders and we were doing this dragon
boat race and I was nominated to steer it because
everyone thought that I was like kind of like a
natural leader. And I remember in that moment, I got
very nervous and scared because I was separating myself from
everyone else. I wonder, in a situation like this, do
(10:08):
you want to be chosen to go compete or do
you want to like lay back in the terms of
this game.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Well, clearly in the beginning you have to lay back
a little bit, and that's what Jenna didn't do. Yeah,
but whether you got chosen or not, you kind of
have to go with those roadbumps you or go with
what happens if you get chosen. There's potential for all
kinds of pop upside. Like the last night, she got
(10:38):
the the advantage of a block of vote and didn't
have to tell anybody. That's huge.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
He touched on it earlier, but I want to really
kind of dive a little bit deeper into the ausy
and Coach trying to decide what to do with this
game and can call Ozzie was like, if you get
the key, then I won't go after it, and Coach
being like, I'm not agreeing to that. Uh, are you
(11:17):
on Coach's side or are you on Ozzie's side in
this in this kind of like a weird little battle.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Wow, that's a great question, So deeper, let's go deeper.
I'm not on either one of their sides. Ozzie, I
hope has learned. I'm getting the sense that he's he
might have learned. He's looking to play a little bit differently.
He's like, he's like you, he's super handsome, he's you
got your exact build. He's yeah, no, that takes you
(11:43):
far or couldn't take you far in the game, as
long as you aren't perceived as a threat. If you
go out there and you're this lean and physical and whatever,
you start winning every damn thing, why aren't they gonna
get rid of you?
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Sarre target.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
I'm hoping he's learned not to do that. He's talking
as if he thinks he's gonna play better. Coach on
the other hand, is you know, really nice guy, but
you know out there with the.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
I don't know, he's the flashy one.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
He's flashy, but he's also like, what's that you know
in Sedona there are uh Vortexa's oh yeah, physical and
you know, oh, and.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
He's stretching on the beach and he's doing all.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
The the sun salute and what is called for?
Speaker 4 (12:35):
I know.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
They both have their their things, and here's the two
of them acting like, you know, Ozzie's saying to him, no,
let's play fair and let's play with integrity or whatever.
The world. Oh, come on, that's like people saying you
didn't deserve to win if the jury voted you to win,
you deserve it, damn it. What's fair? What's what's you
(13:00):
play within the rules of the game you're playing.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
So life's not fair.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
And when Coach sat there and intentionally didn't agree to
let whoever knocks it off win, good for him take it.
You want you know that that, I'm with that. I'm
with Coach on that.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
To fast forward a little bit in the episode, you know,
Ozzie kind of uses this information, you know, kind of
leaks it to Mike White to like kind of like
exp like like when you got to explain yourself, he said,
you did this, but you did this to me. That
seemed like, at least that's from how I saw the show,
(13:39):
it seemed a little dirty.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
So I don't think of that as dirty. Make up
whatever you want, anybody, Look, this is survivor make up
whatever the hell you want, and tell them that they
called you out and you know whatever. So I didn't
see that as bad. But what I loved about it
was that Mike then turned around and very very subtly
(14:01):
just kind of tossed it out to let it, you know,
blow up against those two. Yes, that's something to watch.
Is Mike playing a brilliant game. Maybe that's that's something
to pay attention to.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
It backfired on Ozzie, it did, but Ozzie's not.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Connected with it enough. I don't think. I don't think
like Ozzie was aware that he was saying, let's play
with integrity. You know, if it drops, I'll let you
get it. You know, that's just not the game.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Now.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Ozzie's just kind of caught up in the motions of
where he is too, and probably trying to do better
than he did before.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Don't Oh, can the last game behind? Right?
Speaker 3 (14:42):
You got to, you got to. And he's got to improve,
you know, he's got to improve. He's had a lot
of chances to play, and he's all he's relied on
is how well liked he is, how people perceive him,
and and and his physical prowess, like he keeps winning
challenges so well.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
They even mention it too, where it's like he's playing
a really old school game, where like being the provider
seems like something that you'd want to keep around, and
that's not how it's played anymore. And I thought that
was an interesting quote, because, yeah, things have changed since
those earlier seasons we have involved Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
They shouldn't have done that even then, that would even
when in the first you shouldn't have done it. I
was the provider, but I wasn't relying on that to
have them keep me in the game. You know, I
caught fish, but when I when it was ticked at
somebody whatever, I stopped fishing for three or four days
until they got back in line and We're ready for
some food. They got hungry and pussy and I'm like, okay,
(15:38):
now I'll go out For one.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
I want to ask you really quickly about Mike White
returning from the show after all the success he's had
with White Lotus one.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
He's an incredible shape. I don't know, good for you talk.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
I don't even know how you get in that kind
of shape when I when you're filming one hundred and
thirty six days, you know in Thailand at they were
in that last season. But listen, I'm around enough actors,
I'm around enough screenwriters, and there is there is a
genius to Mike White, and I wonder what you're thinking.
(16:14):
I'm sitting there thinking like, this guy cerebrally is really
really elevated. I feel like this is going to be
his season to really really show his intelligence and get far.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
I hope so. And it, you know, with the subtle
ways in which he is doing things already in episode
one make me think, well, I've always thought he understood
the game pretty well, and that's part of his drive,
I think, to be out there and playing. He certainly
doesn't need to, but I think part of his fitness
is he has more money than he knows what to do.
He probably has hired this personal trainer to follow him
(16:49):
around the whole.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
I think a lot of them are fan girling over him.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Yeah they are, and they want to be on White Lotus.
Who want to be on white Loaders?
Speaker 4 (17:01):
Meet you, right, I'm in.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
The first winner of Survivor, the naked guy. Calm on,
I've gotta be on White Lotus at some point anyway. Yeah, no,
I think they were all playing to him a little bit,
and he rightly says, I don't mind this, you.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Know, the night I saw that, I did see that yet.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
But I think he's also aware that none of that matters.
He's also still looking at them to figure out who's
who's someone he can use to get him to the end,
and that that's smart. So we'll see.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Rizzo starts a fashion show, very fun like little kind
of a beast storyline. I'm wondering if you were in
said fashion show, what would you have done.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
I'd have been dying for it to end, but going
along with it because you gotta be, because you gotta
go along to get along in this silly game. But
I'd be thinking, oh, what the hell these people are
all off on this like tangent, and and you'd.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Be like, let's get our head back in the game.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
It's a distraction, Like you've said, these are something we
can't have as distractions.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
So I'd be paying attention to him, and I'd be thinking,
you know, who is not lost in this distraction and
who's just going along? You know? In House of Villains,
I had to sit there like Gaga eyed watching Teresa
and I mean she she's literally cooking all the time
or whatever, and I'm looking at her like, are you
(18:29):
really not paying attention to what she just said? What's
going on over there?
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Is this just what?
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Heck? No, I know I couldn't believe it at first,
you know, I.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Just couldn't totally not acting.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
No, I'm going to explain story arc to you guys
and making reality TV because I yes, it's stupid the
fashion show thing, but it does give you the story
arc of Colby hating Rizzo in the beginning and then
coming to love him later, like you get an emotional rollercoaster,
which to me is someone who dislikes reality TV.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
I thought that that was what that was good storytelling.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
It was, actually it was, but it's I think what
Rich says is it's not it's not game behavior.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Right sore. I love it too, as somebody who watches
great story, but also I'm thinking, eh, who cares? Who cares?
Like what it shows me is Kolbe's kind of a
little disconnected from what he needs to win, Like he's
I don't like him, Oh I do now, instead of
what's going on with the game. He's he's oh Rizzo's friendly,
(19:40):
oh Rizzo's got emotions, Rizzo's connected to his dad, Rizzo's
treating me like somebody who can give him advice. And
Colby was really literally intentionally trying to be dad like
to him, not for the game. So all of that,
for me, is is indicative of poor gameplay.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Interesting.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
You know Day three challenge is kind of an epic challenge.
I wanted to like just give a quick nod to
like the game makers on this show because this one
is is is really complex. There's a lot of stuff
going on. I imagine, you know, you have to test
these things multiple times make sure you can do all
this stuff. You know, players crawl through mud, they have
(20:23):
to push push a grant crate across the course, throw
a monkey fist through a lever, which is very very
hard for some people. Uh, make it up this deep
ramp which ends up hurting Kyle, and then the challenge
continues with uh, you know, to make a puzzle all
fit together to win immunity for their camp. Overall arching
(20:45):
thoughts on this Day three challenge for you.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Rich so epic, Like you said, the size of these things,
the effort that goes into them, and what goes through
my head when I watch people doing these things, like
imagine and Dolores crawling through that first part of the
challenge into that net where then you are literally all
(21:08):
that hair all the way down, full completely of mud,
mud face, the mud, hair, the mud, and so all
of the game from that point on and the rest
of that challenge, et cetera. You're just it's drying, it's cracking.
I'm going I'm watching somebody like Dolores, who's done. I'm watching.
Are they so distracted, so bothered that they're going to
(21:30):
lose sight of how to move forward? How are you
handling it?
Speaker 5 (21:33):
Are you like, oh no, oh yeah, you're looking for
their weaknesses?
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Yeah yeah, yeah all the time. And these big challenges
that give you all kinds of different sections and segments
show you what people can and can't do. How quickly
do you learn how stupid people are when they can't
look at a puzzle piece.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
And that's where you'd find my weakness, you know.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
But good, you know you want to know that. Oh,
then put yourself there, you put somebody else. Look, I
can't even see. These colors are making me crazy. Some
people are visual, some people are artists, some people are
creative exactly. Yeah, yeah, you just got to find their
strengths and then that's part of how you figure out
who to work with.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Oh wow, obviously Sirih has a problem getting the monkey
ball through the thing and it's taking a lot of time.
Is that something that you're watching is then the biggest
weak link? And like what if you're on that team
or even if you're not, Like, what are you thinking
in that moment?
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Yeah, Siri, she's a legend. She's played, you know, so
many games. You know, she's really really great and she's
good TV for being so relatable. But that was a
real the precipice of danger for her when you're that Like,
(22:54):
it didn't look at on that on last night's episode,
but in reality, I learned that she was there for
a half an hour or more trying to get that ball,
and she wasn't changing what she was doing. She was
just doing the same thing underhand instead of trying to
throw it. So when that happens, there's no chance. But
that the rest of the team has a little frustration
(23:16):
and has to ask themselves, is this somebody that I
can continue to work with or would be good on
other challenges those kinds of things. She's great, but you
can't help. But what wonder is she going to make
it through this? Are they going to get rid of
her because she's just dead weight?
Speaker 1 (23:35):
How do you become chosen for that? Because and this
might come across as like misogynistic, but if I'm like,
you got to throw this like five pound ball thirty yards,
I want like a guy who like maybe played football
or something.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
And is that like a team?
Speaker 4 (23:52):
It's logistically just smart?
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Yeah, well, like a team decision, because if it is,
then there's a little bit of blame to be left
on the team to be like you should have had
her do it when you have I don't know, some
jock that would have been one throw and giant, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
But they're crazy dynamics on Traders, on Survivor or whatever.
Behind the scenes. Yeah, it's a team decision. But if
you're part of that team. How a certive do you
want to be? How a certive do you not want
to be? What do you want to let somebody step
in and look like an idiot? Who cares? If you
win the challenge, if you can get rid of one
of yours or one of the rest of them, you're
still getting closer to you winning lots of dynamics that
(24:29):
people don't think about. So I think, having heard she
volunteered in this case, I don't know if you guys
knew it. She volunteered to do it because she'd done
the same challenge on Survivor Australia, but the Survivor Australia
challenge at that point was a little bit different and
didn't have the thing in front of it that this did,
and so she found herself unable to do it and
(24:51):
was like emotionally destroyed.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Like defeated.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
Yeah, she seems really defeated by down And it's right
out of the box. Ye kind of knew she's starting
off on the wrong foot and.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
They're after her.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
They are they are coming for her big time.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Who was it? Was it Jen? They look alike to me?
Speaker 5 (25:11):
So was it Chrissy or Jenna that wanted to take
her down right out Jenna, like you were saying, like,
Jenna just came out really aggressive, and.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
She was on her radar to get rid of her
in the first place. And I'd hate to see if
Siri knew that.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
She thought she had to be that aggressive Jenna did.
But yeah, you know, Chrissy, Oh, that one's not going
to go very far. I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Fast forwarding to the tribal council, when everyone ended up
voting Jenna over Siri, are you surprised that there weren't
more votes for Siria? Like for me, I would have
been like that was a bad play. She might be
a weak link for tribe. I could have been swayed
either way. Did you were you surprised or did you
(26:04):
think it was was good gameplay for everyone to go
against Jenna.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
Well, I think it was. There are lots of ways,
lots of reasons I would I could have kept Jenna
in and used her to help me get to the end,
But I think it was good to get rid of her.
And I wasn't surprised that so many votes were for
her because her gameplay was not subtle. And if there
(26:28):
isn't the subtlety to bring you further. Then I can't
trust you necessarily to be an ally, to be an asset.
You'd worry me if you're too exposed the way she is.
So I wasn't surprised that there were that many, And
because it's Siri, I wasn't surprised that she had so
few just the one vote. She's really amazing in person's
(26:54):
She's as as good at kind of building relationships and
being that kind of smooth, comfortable personal person around whom
you aren't concerned or worried about, you know what's happening,
and that takes you far in a game like this,
I mean really far.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
What do you think about these these idols that they're finding,
You know, Jennifer Genevieve finds this Billie Eilish boomerang idol one.
I wonder if Billy Eilish even knows that that's being
done in her name. I like to think that it is,
but I also know producers early let's just put bad
buddy Billyl whatever. What are you thinking about the like
(27:36):
the like these idols that it seems like it's going
to be fun and make a bunch of twists going forward,
But I want to get your thoughts.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
I think it's fun and going to be and things
are going to happen too. And I love that Genevieve
found it because I don't know if you remember her season,
but she's a hell of a player. They're there for
I don't know, twenty thirty almost forty seasons, it would
be it's hard to find play players who understood the
(28:03):
game and were really really playing well. But in this
these last ten to fifteen seasons, a few more really
super players have started to emerge. Like it's almost as
if they've run out of people unaware of how to
play Survivor and they're starting to get some who are
who are really really good at it. And Jeneteve is
(28:23):
one of them. So even though she only got to
fifth in her last season, I think the woman knows
how to play the game, and I'm really interested to
see what she does.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
I'm going to keep an eye on her.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Yeah, yeah, she's something and with this now, the thing
is that she found it in front of other people. Yeah,
so watching who else she tells about it or doesn't tell.
It's not like the other one where you can keep
it secret.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
Well, if one person knows about it. Somebody else is
going to know about it and it's done. You know what,
It's just who do you want to You know it's
going to get out, So who do you want to
tell to?
Speaker 4 (28:59):
At least them feel like you're giving them something?
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Right, Yeah, exactly. You make him like you're giving them
something and like you're with them, you're.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
You're with them.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
It's us, but it's out anyway, it's out. You're not
giving them nothing.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
But you're exactly what I do.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Well, you would, you would, and you did? You know.
I watched how you played. You really didn't rock people's
boat too much and that's important, you know you kind
of I love it? Yeah, now in real life, Oh,
i'd have some advice.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
And I would take it from you.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Speaking of the idols, you know, Ozzy ends up finding
one in his backpack and it's this boomerang, which is
very fun. Right, But my question to you is, if
you are Azsy, how are you using that? How are
you playing that? Going forward?
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Oh? Yeah, good question. Well, Ozzie needs to focus, I
think a little bit more on just what the goal
is instead of being different. He needs to be different,
but the goal is still to bond in a way
that gets the people at the end to vote you in.
So you've got to be thinking about maybe bringing somebody
(30:16):
into what you know secretly, maybe doing something in a
way that doesn't look as if you're schmoozing them, but
but you're you're connecting in real ways. The way I
did it was actually being real, Like it sounds absurd,
but as I was as honest as as was humanly
possible with the people I was playing with. Yeah, when
(30:37):
it came to game stuff that I didn't I couldn't
be honest about You've got to lie and be deceitful
without ever showing a blip of it with just Trader
as if it's yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
You're a Trader, You're an excellent trader.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
I want them to pick me as Trader when I
play that game.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Yeah yeah, yeah, don't say it out loud, and people
are just going to be like, well, I heard on
that podcast that you wanted that, so we're going to vote.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
For Everyone goes in wanting to be a Trader except
for me, I know, and will they.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
I don't know, I don't. I don't know if they'd
picked me up.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Richard, I can tell you what's gonna happen, they're not
going to choose you. And if you could get through
a couple of the first round tables without like just
being a huge threatned to everyone being scared of you,
then once traders start to dwindle down, someone's gonna bring
you into the turret.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
Ah, that's it. That's a good Yeah. Yeah, that's a
good one.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
When they do, I'll be ready.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
Yeah, I bet you you were born ready for this.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Real quick. Ozzie does have some power though.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
He's got this boomerang and he's got an extra idol.
You know, I have this big theory about reality TV.
When I see you too much on the first couple episodes,
it means I don't think yeah last very long.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
I'm a little nervous about Ozzie's.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
Uh camera time that you're saying that screen time.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
I'm nervous about his longevity on the show because of
the screen time.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Yeah, I think you're right. I don't think the boomerang's
gonna serve him well. I don't think it's gonna be used.
So if he's counting on that, that's not great of him.
But I think, like you, I think he's got not
just a little bit of a target because he's so
physically competent. I think he's got a target also because
he's not he's not known to play really well. And
(32:25):
so is that an asset to bring him along? Is
he smart? Like I don't know.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
You know, we got to close out the episode talking
about about Kyle, and you know, the doctors come and
Jeff comes, and you know, it makes everyone leave. My
heart breaks for the kid, Like, you know, I hate
(32:51):
to have anyone go out in that manner that early
in the game.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
One.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Have you heard anything like did he rupture his achilles
or was it just strained?
Speaker 3 (33:01):
He did? He just had his He just finished his
second surgery about two years ago.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
That's a bad one. That's painful.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
They finished this in July and he had his second
surgery just three weeks ago. So he's still healing. But
he's Uh, he's just a good guy. And so here's
what I'd say to you, Wells when you talk like
that about I hate to see anybody go He just won. Yeah,
just got a million bucks and he's hurt, okay personally
(33:31):
as a human. Oh that's too bad. Bye bye, one down,
got million bye bye. Yeah, you know it's it's gotta
be you gotta in the game. Detached from that, And
what I noticed was they didn't everybody around him. I
mean the tears and the yeah, the the kind of
(33:51):
reaction of oh, I hate anybody leaving. On the first season,
it seemed these people aren't actors. That's something you know,
you guys know, it seemed real. You know, these people
were lost in the emotions of sad that one of
my team members. How's your team name? Even you even
remember they gave it to you yesterday? I mean, who
(34:12):
cares they make this shit up?
Speaker 4 (34:14):
You know, he's my soul made, Richard, my soul made.
I love you. I'm gonna say I love you.
Speaker 5 (34:21):
I don't throw that word around too much, but I
love you.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
We get each other.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
Yeah, it's just true. And I just hope they get it,
you know, some of them as they move along. But
that's what I'm looking for, is for which of them
are using that to manipulate the situation. But it didn't
look like any of them were.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
That's what I was thinking. Yeah, that's what I thought about.
You know, in the beginning, when Rizzo was crying, when
he had the father talk, I'm like, please tell me,
this kid's kidding, but I don't think he was.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
He wasn't. And that's the sad part. That's why he'll
go too to hear him talking about, Oh, I'm going
to be a legend. Oh buddy, just that you're gone,
you know, just a death.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yeah, well, Richard, I want to be respectful of your time,
but I have to say, like, I love your perspective
on reality amazing, Like what are your favorite reality TV
shows that that isn't survivor that we might be doing
recaps for to have you back on to see and hear.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
Yeah, there's nothing better right than Traders. There's nothing out
there better than Traders. That show for me is well,
the game, I don't know the show. I love the show,
you know, I love Allen's drama and all the rest
of that, but all that distraction the game for me
of Traders is, I don't know, just excites me. So
that's one of them that I like a lot. I
(35:45):
watch a lot of them because I end up on
you know, heroes versus I end up on you know,
shows with people and I'm I'm really not sure who
they are, so I try to pay attention. I watch
all the house not all, but a lot of the howwives,
just because all my background is psychology bachelors and apply
behavioral science as Masters in Education and Counseling one course
(36:09):
shy of a PhD in Humanities. It's about people who
people are so housewives, so many are batshit crazy. I mean,
I'm just I'm just fascinated that they're functioning among one another.
You know, I'm just like, Wow, somebody some stable in
the midst of it to laurs, you know, look looking
around at them, like, what the hell's happening. I love
(36:31):
that because it's true, you've got to wonder what's happening
in their heads.
Speaker 5 (36:36):
I'm studying right now Ashley from The Bachelor, I'm trying
to get to I want to hear what you say
about her. And Brittany from Salt Lake City. I'm baffled.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Yeah, she's something. I don't know what to make of her. Really,
the the she seems to me. Brittany, for example, seems
to me so detached from.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
See put her on survivor.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Yeah, from how to interact in a way that might
be helpful to her relatable to other people. I mean,
I don't I don't get it. These people know that
a lot of them, like the Beverly Hills, they're and
so they know they're privileged, you know, some of them
with they're aware that their lives are a privileged but
(37:22):
they're detached from how they're perceived. I think in such
a way that the the screaming and the fits and
the I don't know, maybe they're just desperate to stay on.
And some of it's intentional. But again, just like this
we were talking about before, a lot of it doesn't
seem intentional to me. It's not.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
I don't think it is. I can tell when it is.
I can tell you.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Why do you want to slapper I want to I
want to slap her. I don't want to hear it.
The tears, the they threw her, They threw her plush
toy in the water.
Speaker 5 (37:54):
I wanted to see her cry when her daughter was
talking to her.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
Rich Now, when they threw the unicorn, and yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
Yeah, that's different. They drew her to her little pluck
stuffed animal.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
In the water.
Speaker 5 (38:07):
They should have cut the head off and put it
under her bed like the Godfather.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
I agree, all right, So to take it back to
Survivor for one last question before we let you go,
prognosticate Forrest Richard. Who do you think is gonna win
Season fifty after watching episode one?
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Oh god, you know, I never I never guess. It's
just so random and there are many who could I think,
and I've given you lots of hints. So I think
Genevieve is a really, really super player. I think there
are a lot of people there who could be so
under the radar but so smart that they're gonna take
(38:48):
the whole thing. And maybe that's Camilla. You know, she
certainly would deserve it if she if she was able
to get that way, and her her closest ally who
they have the most experienced playing together, Kyle's now gone,
so that would be really rewarding. But until we have
more gameplay, wells, I'm at a loss. I can't even pick.
(39:09):
It would just be a random like any meenie MINDI moe.
I got to see what happens and how they do it.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
Well, thank you so much for coming on by order
of the Faithfuls and talking. She's in fifty, episode one
of The Survivor before we let you go? What are
you working on? What do you want to promote? Where
can people find you? All that stuff?
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Oh, I'm on all the social media, not that I
pay a lot of attention to it, and you know,
I do a number of different podcasts and things. Right now,
we're hyping the House of Villain season three, that premiere
is tonight. I'm working on this. This is my passion
project deeper, exploring what's true, where reality matters. I'm trying
to challenge people to go beyond their way of looking
(39:51):
at the world, their perceptions, and recognize that we don't
all know what's true, so let's explore the possibilities, keep
more of an open mind. I don't know. I might
be barking up, barking up the wrong tree with humans,
but we'll see.
Speaker 5 (40:05):
Yeah, well, I'm interested and whatever that is rich.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Me as well.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
And I don't know if I'll ever get start. I
don't know a lot about podcasting and the people to
get it organized and stuff, but I'm behind the scenes
getting it ready.
Speaker 5 (40:22):
Well you let us know, and when that time comes,
you have my one hundred percent full support.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Such a pleasure, both of you. Thank you very very much.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Thank you, thank you so much for coming on the show.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Man. You are hilarious. Your take on this show is
very unique and really really interesting to listen to, So again, everyone,
make sure you go follow Richard Hatch on social media,
find out more about Deeper, and we'll be back again
next week to recap episode two of season fifty of
(40:54):
Survivor right here on by order of the faithfuls, See you, guys,
