members of the cast and director Jody Smith. And Jody,
let's talk for a minute about the show. You guys
are putting this on stage the weekend of March sixth
through the eighth at the Palace Sater. So why High
(00:44):
School Musical too? Tell us a little bit about the
show and why you guys decided to do it well.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
High School Musical two has kind of been on our
radar for a few years, and then this year it
just seemed as if we would have the right potential
of cast in order to pull off the show.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Got it.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
We were looking for something for a fun show that
has dancing, and it's just kind of a very very fun, uplifting,
energetic show that's kind of the kind of shows that
the Ridgedale kids look forward to. And there have been
several people that wanted to do Team Beach, Right, that's
(01:27):
not an option. Yeah, so we went with the next best.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, you kind of negotiated it out right. Yeah, I
get it.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
This particular high school musical takes place during the summertime,
so you still kind of get that pool beachy vibe.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Right, right. So that's cool, and you've got some characters
that kind of kind of fit the bill. Now, the
show is coming up March sixth, seventh, and eighth at
the Marian Palace Theater and you can get your tickets
by contacting the Palace. But you guys also have some
information out You said you've got a Facebook page an
Instagram page. Tell everybody how they can get some more
details of the show if they're looking for it. Obviously
they can do a search for Ridgdale's musical.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Right Yeah, yeah, so we do have a Facebook page
that's just Ridgedale Musical. The kids will have to help
me out with the Instagram page because I don't man
that one. My daughter man's that from North Carolina?
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Of course, Well, we'll get them to it when we
talk to that. No big deal, No big deal. You
can also check out check out the Ridgedale Local Schools.
I know there's some links and some different things there.
That's where I found some information about the show if
you do have some interest. Now let's move on to
the cast a little bit. Swing that mic over here.
We're going to talk to some of the members in
the cast of Disney's High School Musical too, and our
(02:39):
first one has kind of a fun deal. You are,
Did I understand this right? You're the pool boy? Is
that what I hear? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:44):
I'm one of the pool boys.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
All right, so tell me a little bit. First of all,
who are you and what great are you?
Speaker 3 (02:49):
At Richdal I'm Pearson Smith. I'm a sophomore currently.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Okay, all right, So why did you want to do
this show and be the pool boy?
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Well? I brought my sister to practice one time. Yeah,
And I was originally going to sign up for doing
backstage stuff and moving set pieces around, but then I
decided to be ensemble and instead of just being like
the choir part where I'm just backstage singing for everybody
else to boost it. Okay, I just got thrown in
and decided to play a couple parts.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
You got thrown in. So you've enjoyed the show, You've
had fun. Have you met some new people or what?
Everybody in the cast you already knew.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Most of the people already knew.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Okay, So it's your first time doing a show. Oh yes, okay,
So your interest was to be backstage and do things,
and then all of a sudden it's like here I am,
I'm in the show. Right. Yeah, that's probably her fault
a little bit too right, as she probably did some legend. Yeah,
I get that. That's how directors are when you kind
of get in there. So cool. Sounds like a fun stuff.
Let's move over Martha.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Who's next? Martha? Martha is in high school? Musical two?
And tell us a little bit about who you are?
What grade you are a Ridgdale.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
I'm Madison Bishop. I'm a freshman at Rigdale.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Okay, so tell me a little bit about Martha Cox.
What's your character? Talked about it?
Speaker 4 (03:56):
She's a very fun, loving and outstanding type of character.
She doesn't really care what other people think. As of
in the first movie, she had a really big passion
for hip hop.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Okay, but not so much here in high school musical
too correct.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
She's still very fun loving and she also ties into
her hip hop loving okay.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Okay, okay, so she does still kind of reach back
into that. So why is it fun to play this character?
Speaker 4 (04:25):
I find her character fun because she's very offset from
the others. Okay, she's very like, she's just her own character.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
So is there any bit of you in the character
that you play?
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Sometimes I think yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
So good. So it's kind of along your genre, so
it kind of fits you. Okay, right, is this your
first show? Have you done some other shows?
Speaker 4 (04:48):
This is my ninth year.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Ninth year of knowing shows. What else have you done
beside shows here at Ridgdew?
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Well, she does Christmas?
Speaker 5 (05:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Are you doing Christmas at the Palace? What a great show? Absolutely?
And you're doing that on your own? Are you doing
that with a group when you do Christmas at the Palace.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Or it's with a group of different people from other schools?
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Okay, that's fine, that's fine. So but when you go
an audition, you're auditioning for yourself, not with you know,
one of the groups, or you know anything like that. Right, Yeah, okay, cool, excellent,
that's fun stuff. We're going to move around the room
and we're going to talk more High School Musical two
on stage with Ridgdale Local Schools. The show is March sixth, seventh,
and eighth. Ticket start at just fourteen dollars for adults
(05:32):
twelve dollars for students, and you can get those tickets
by reaching out to the Palace Theater box office. So
let's talk for a minute. Who we have next? Is
this Troy? Is that who we have here? All right?
Talk to me about your character, my friend.
Speaker 6 (05:46):
Well, Troy Bullen is the lead. He is the basketball
star of the team. He now does musicals for the school.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Yeah, he's a very stressed out character.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
He is making promises a lot of people. He's got
a job now and he's got college to worry.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
About, getting a little older and getting looking at more
things than right than just high school. Yeah. Absolutely, And
your name in your greatest.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
I'm Visinus Schuster and I'm a senior.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Okay, so you kind of fit that bill? I mean,
is is this kind of the character that you're playing,
is that you? I mean you're looking at the future.
You've got things to do. You've done some shows before, right.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
Yeah, so this was my eleventh show. Now, I'm also
involved with basketball.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
I've been doing basketball for a long time now.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
Yeah, looking at colleges and stuff. So I feel very related.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
To this character.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Yeah, so you got you got a lot going on,
so it fits right into that into that world. Yeah.
So why did you want to do this show and
be the and and lead the cast and be this character.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
Well, I'm doing musicals for like for ever now, since
first grade.
Speaker 6 (06:48):
I love play on shows. I love coming together with
my friends and doing these things. I want to be
Troy because I really relate to his character. It's my
senior year. I've been stressing out over college and stuff,
and I'll just love high school musical too.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, it kind of fits and does all that stuff.
What was your first show? You said you were on
shows when you were six, seven, eight years old. Huh,
talked to you about My.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
First show was Pajama Game back in first grade?
Speaker 1 (07:13):
And what did you do in that when you were
in the first grade? Were you just part of a
junior chorus?
Speaker 5 (07:17):
What?
Speaker 1 (07:18):
What? What all did you do way back?
Speaker 6 (07:19):
I don't think we had too many elementary getsing that show.
It was like maybe like me and like maybe like
two other people.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yeah, there were a few, and it was like there
was a big picnic scene outdoors, and so the families
and so the little kids would come out and wow.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
So eleven twelve years ago you started doing these shows.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
Yes, the second one was My second show was Susical Okay,
I played with flat Vlada cough.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Oh wow.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
That was a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
And how old were you then?
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Second grade? So I was like a sure seven?
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yeah, probably yeah, seven, nine years old. That's cool and
you had to say dance to all of that stuff.
It's a great show.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
Yes, it was a lot of fun. Fun. That's a
really big cast.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
So do you think physical is what made you a
theater guy?
Speaker 6 (08:05):
No, So honestly, I've always wanted to be I've always
been outgoing, so I've always wanted to be on TV.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
I've always wanted to do that stuff.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
So actually being in TV shows, like doing movies and
stuff made me want to go into like doing the theater.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
And so yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Are you looking at moving on and doing that because
you're obviously a senior, and like you said, you're looking
at your future.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
I would love to do that.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
That's cool, that's awesome. Yeah, you did good. Move that.
Mic over, we're going to talk to I believe. Is
this Chad dan Forth? Is that who I'm speaking with? Yes, Chad,
tell me who you are and what grade you're in
at Richdale.
Speaker 7 (08:40):
I'm Michael D's and I'm a senior at Richdale.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
All right, Michael, tell me a little bit about your character,
Chad and why you like playing it.
Speaker 7 (08:46):
Chad is your typical jock, and he just loves basketball,
and he's friends with Troy Bolton, and he just like
he loves his group of friends and he hates it
when like his friends just like go off and do
their own thing like without him, right, And that's basically
(09:07):
just Chad and he loves He can't he can't drive
with a crab.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
So that that that brings the next question. So, uh,
are you a pretty good driver or no?
Speaker 7 (09:21):
Yeah, I would say I'm a pretty good driver.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
That's what I'm a pretty good driver.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Well, well, you you would know if you've had a
few fender benders or things like that, I guess, or
run into a few things in the parking lot or
something along those lines. So yeah, it would definitely tip
that off. So why did you want to play this character?
Is this kind of you or what? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (09:38):
I would say chat is me. I also play basketball
and Troy Bolton and Chad are best friends for a
long time in me events and have both been friends
for a really long time. So it's like it's kind
of like we're playing as these characters, but it's also
kind of like we're playing ourselves in this musical. So
like the chemistry that they have is like the chemistry
(10:00):
me and Vincent has have, and like there's like lines
where like they're arguing and it's kind of like we
would put ourselves in that situation. So like it's easier
to show more emotion.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Right, So it is easier because you're working with your
your friend playing and doing what you're doing in this
in this musical.
Speaker 7 (10:17):
Right.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Yeah, that's really cool. I love that. I think that's cool.
So you were happy when they decided to do to
do High School Musical two?
Speaker 7 (10:26):
Yeah, I would say I was pretty happy because I've
watched High School Musical two a lot throughout my house.
My little sisters always watch it, and when they announced it,
I was pretty excited to do it.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
That's cool. Why does somebody want to come to this show? What? What?
What would you tell somebody if they said why would
I come see your show?
Speaker 7 (10:46):
I would tell somebody that it's a very unique show
and for original being a really small school, I feel
like we have the cast to run this show, and
I feel like our show could be better than a
lot of other shows around.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Well, that's cool. I love that how many are in
the cast? I mean, how many guys have that are
in the cast. It's goping, so it's a pretty good
sized cast. Yeah, which works well when you're on a
stage like the Marrion Palace Theater. It is Disney's High
School Musical two on stage at the Marion Palace Theater,
put on by Ridgdale Local Schools, and the musical is
March sixth, seventh and a. It's six and seventh, that's
seven thirty and then the Sunday mattine at two thirty.
(11:22):
Tickets fourteen dollars for adults, twelve dollars for students and seniors.
You can contact the palaseat or box office for more details.
There you can also check out the Ridgdale Musical and
Rigdale Local Schools on Facebook and Instagram. Get more details
about the show if you'd like to learn more, but
definitely come out. I mean, actually sounds like a really
(11:43):
really good show. Slide the mic back over to Jody.
I want to chat for a minute, just to make
sure that we have everything figured out and we've caught everything.
Is there anything else we need to talk about on
the show. Are there some other details or anything fun
that's happening that we should highlight? I mean, obviously the
kids are playing sports right now, so that probably makes
it fun to do rehearsals and get things done right.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yeah, yeah, I think I'll just the boys basketball team
is playing their first game tonight yea and their tournament run,
so we are very very excited for them, so hoping
to pop over after rehearsal tonight to maybe see the
tail end of their victory this evening. But yes, we
(12:27):
are a small school. We share kids all the time
with different activities and sports, so I appreciate the dedication
that a good number of the students have when they
make the effort to be there and are working very
very hard. We are a small school. We do big things,
(12:47):
so we also try to make sure that we're incorporating
our art classes. They're making like a large grand baby
piano using cardboard. We have lots of parentolunteers that are
helping our I call it industrial tech, but I know
that that's not the new right engineering classes. They have
(13:09):
built so many amazing set pieces for us this year,
led by their instructor, but the students have built have
built them. So we're excited that we have lots of
kids involved either on the stage, backstage, behind the scenes,
and it's a whole community effort.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
That's awesome that makes it really really cool. Ridgdale Local
Schools production of Disney's High School Musical two on stage
March six and seventh at seven thirty March eighth at
two point thirty at the Marion Palace Theater. Tickets fourteen
dollars for adults, twelve dollars for students and seniors. You
