Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point
one WASHM Toby and Chilly in the Morning on ninety
seven point one WASH FM. Welcome to a new work week.
It is Monday, October twenty eighth. I am Chilliyamar. Toby
Nap is out, but my client is in for him today.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Hello, good morning. How did you sleep last night?

Speaker 3 (00:18):
I slept terribly. Really, it's just hard to get used
to these hours. I don't know how you do it.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I really don't. Okay, So I didn't sleep well for
different reason.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Maybe you're having you know, sympathy sleep for now, it
was because of the Commander's unbelievable win last night.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
All right, that was amazing that hail Mary pass.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
In case you missed it, it was like thirteen seconds
left in the game, We're down by three, and somehow
someway hail Mary pass ends up in.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
The end zone and we end up winning the game.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
And the high from that Mic, I'm telling you, I
could not calm down from it. So I didn't sleep
much and I'm feeling fine this morning. Very exciting beating
the Chicago Bear.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yes, our big boss may be upset about that because
hes a Big Bears family.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
We don't care, We really don't.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
And it's very few times like because everybody talks about it,
like regardless of because are you a Ravens fan.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I'm I'm a Ravens fan, but I but I you know,
I will go also for them as well.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
And it doesn't matter really which team that you are
a fan of, you can still appreciate an incredibly hail
Mary Passe. So it was great like seeing people posting
the video of it, and I couldn't stop watching the replay,
and I also couldn't stop watching the coach's reaction. But
I almost missed that beautiful moment because I was watching
the game with my husband and my son, who celebrated

(01:38):
his birthday over the weekend, got a new robot and
he wanted me to go upstairs and see a feature on.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
This toy robot.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
So I left and I came back and the Bears
were now ahead, and the very next play they ended
up winning, and I said to my husband, I go,
I would have never forgiven our son.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Have Oh oh my god, would you have browned him?

Speaker 4 (01:59):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
I'm kidding to.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Be like one of those things like really robot away.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
From a beautiful moment.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Anyway, hopefully you are having an amazing start to your
work week. Coming up next, we're going to talk about
this new feature or this new technology that American Airlines
has come out with that basically calls out people who
cut in line.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
That's coming up in minutes.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
As Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues on ninety
seven point one, wash FF, American Airlines not messing around.
They're going to try to put a stop to line cutters.
It's Toby and Chilly in the Morning on ninety seven
point one was FM.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
I'm Chiliamar. My client is in for Toby today.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Before I get into exactly what American Airlines is doing,
I gotta ask you, and you gotta be honest. Do
you try to board a plane before it's your turn?

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Okay I don't necessarily all the time, but I will
tell you that I do. Like on Southwest, I will
do that. I'll try to skip the boarding group.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Oh really, see you try to be a bee. That's
because well, I mean, because you know how it is.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Understand you're lucky Southwest isn't doing this, But American Airlines
are testing this new technology at just three airports one
of which happens to.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Be a Reagan national. I saw that. You know how they.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Say, okay, you know, seats blank through blank boarding now,
and then the reason they do that is for flow reasons,
like there's a method to their madness. Now, if you
try to scan your ticket before your assigned group the agent,
the little alarm will go off as you're.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Trying to scan, letting the agent know back to the line.
You gotta wait your turn, like public shame, embarrassing, right
that happens.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
I'm not I'm fine with that, but you know what,
I would try just because I want to see if
it really works.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
You would still try to I would try. I put
my head in shame if I got caught, of course
would of course you would.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
But I'm just you know, there's a there's a reason
why they have that in place. It's just delaying everybody,
and especially I would love to witness this with people
who stand up like a half an hour before their
boarding time, Like there are the people who are so
antsy to get on board. I would just love to
see their faces when the scale. I'd be like, get

(04:13):
in the back of oh my god, yes, too bad,
so sad coming up in just a few minutes. In
case that little story didn't get you into a good headspace,
we are going to share a quote to get you
into a great morning mindset. As Toby and Chilly in
the Morning continues on ninety seven point one was CHEF,
welcome to Monday morning. It's Toby and Chili in the morning.
Ninety seven point one was CHEFM, I'm Chiliamar Toby Nap

(04:35):
is out today and your morning mindset quote today comes
from Albert Einstein, who says, strive not to be a success,
but rather to be of value, and that suggests that
true fulfillment and purpose really comes from focusing on making
a meaningful impact rather than just seeking personal achievement. When

(04:56):
we aim to be of value, we focus on using
our strengths and skills to contribute to others or to
make a positive difference, and this perspective really shifts success
from a self centered goal to one that enhances the
lives around us. So Albert Einstein says, strive not to
be a success, but rather to be of value. And

(05:17):
you can find that quote or share your own using
hashtag morning mindset on the Toby and chilipage at waschefm
dot com now coming up in just a few minutes.

with somebody who was dressed as a purple Willie wonk up.
During Adele's performance Saturday night at the Coliseum at Caesar's Palace,
she got very emotional and teared up when she saw

improved to six and two on the season. Early voting

Virginia and Maryland with over two million ballots filed so far.
Election Day, by the way, if you're not keeping track,

(08:10):

(08:31):
American Airlines is testing a new technology at Reagan National
Airport during the boarding process that aims to cut down
on passengers who try to cut the line's going to
alert gate agents with an audible sound if a passenger
tries to scan a ticket before their assigned group. And
for the first time ever, if everyone with a valid
US passport suddenly packed up and left the country, there

(08:53):
would actually be more Americans outside the country than inside
the country, because the State Department reports that fifty one
percent of Americans now have US passports. That is up
from forty six percent in twenty twenty three. Forecast for today,
it's a cold start to the day, but it is
going to warm up. It's gonna be sunny, sixty three

(09:13):
the high right now thirty four degrees in Clarksburg coming
up in just a few minutes. So, when you're throwing
a party for your kids, how much do you care
about the goodie bag that you're going to be giving
out to the guests.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
I'll tell you why I'm bringing this up.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
In just a few minutes, as Toby and Chilly in
the Morning continues a ninety seven point one Wash FM,
when throwing a party for your kids, how much do
you care about the goodie bag that you're going to
give away to guests?

Speaker 2 (09:41):
It's Toby and Chilly.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
In the Morning on ninety seven point one Wash FM,
I'm chiliamar My Klein is in for Toby Nap.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Now, Mike, you don't have kids.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
I don't have kids, and I've never gotten any kind
of bags to any parties when I grew up.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah, it wasn't that much of a thing when we
were kids, but it's certainly a very common thing now
where you give them a little bit of trinkets or
something as they're walking out the door. Now, when the
kids are little, like kindergarten, first grade, whatever, trinkets from
the dollar Tree or things like that, it's enough to
keep them entertained and they get very excited. But as
your kids get older, those trinkets turn to trash.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
You don't have the trinkets end up in the trash.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
So I put a lot of pressure on myself to
try to come up with something in the goodie bag
that they're actually going to use and or think is cool. Okay,
So this year, we only had like six or seven
kids coming to his birthday, and it was at a
gaming place, and so the three little things I had

(10:40):
in the bag were we're in there, it's like a
fidget toy. And then there was a pair of socks
that were gaming socks. I know it sounds not cool,
but the socks themselves look cool. But then we also
had these gloves where the fingertips light up in different patterns,
so they could use it for Halloween, any other time
or whenever.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
It's like a really cool thing. Okay, So, but you
never know what the reaction is gonna be.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Right, So yesterday after his party, I got not one
but two texts from Mom saying, oh my god, the
kids were so excited about the goodie bag. And I
swear to god, I was like, yes, it was so
such like satisfaction, Oh my god, that they thought they
were cool, because I remember last year, I think somebody

(11:23):
gave away.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Water bottle like Stanley's.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Uh No, that would have been a Potomac party.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Toby and Chili's nearly impossible question. The shape of.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
This snack food was actually created to resemble a child's
arms in prayer.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
What is it you're playing? For?

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Tickets to go see Kylie Minogue Get Capital one Arena,

of this snack food was created to resemble a child's

Nearly Impossible Question. You're playing for tickets to go see
Colly Mino Capital one Arena April eighth.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Here's the question.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
The shape of this snack food is actually created to
resemble a child's arms in prayers. What snack is it?
Good morning, Mark in Baltimore. You are part of the
show this morning. You've got the question, what do you
think we are talking about?

Speaker 2 (12:35):
What's snack? I would say to the pretzels.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
That is an excellent guest. It is also the correct answer. Congratulations,
that's awesome. You're gonna go see Coli Mino Capital one
Arena April eighth and hopefully you'll have an amazing time
and maybe they've got soft pretzels for you to order
at the Capitol one Arena. We'll be back again tomorrow
morning with another round of our nearly impossible question. Coming

If you're interested, gates are going to be opening at

Transit police are investigating after a teenager was wounded during
a robbery and shooting on a Metro train.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
This happened Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Investigators say the unidentified team was on a Green Line
train at Gallery Place Metro and the shooting occurred. Two
people have been hospitalized after they suffered medical emergencies while
watching the Marine Corps Marathon yesterday at two separate times.
Both those patients were airlifted and treated for life threatening conditions.
The National Zoo released a video Friday showing giant pandas

(14:18):
Boo Lee and Chingbao playing inside their new habitat. Zoo
officials say the pandas are adapting really well to their
new home and they'll be making their public debut in January.
And finally, while it Hub just came out with their
list of the best baseball cities in the entire country.

(14:38):
New York City tops the list, but locally Baltimore made
it into the top ten, coming in ninth. Forcasts for today,
it is a frigid start to the day, but don't worry.
Things aren't going to heat up a bit. It's going
to be sunny and the temperatures are going to be
where they're supposed to be this time of year, and
that is near the mid sixties now, though it is

(15:01):
thirty five degrees in Chantilly now coming up in just
a few minutes. You know, Halloween is this Thursday, and
although it is mostly about giving out candy, what if
you want to give away a fun alternative instead. Do
you have any suggestions? Feel free to share them by
calling eight sixty six nine two seven, four, three sixty
one and We'll get to those calls in just a

(15:23):
few minutes. It's Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues
on ninety seven point one wash FM.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Halloween is Thursday. Are you ready for Trick or treaters?

Speaker 1 (15:31):
It's Toby and Chilling in the Morning on ninety seven
point one wash FM.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
I'm Chilliam R.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Mike Klein is here for Toby Nap and we've also
got producer Taylor's Shay in the room and I wanted
to talk to you both about Halloween candy and also
your feelings on fun alternatives to candy. Now, Mike, did
you grow up with a neighbor who didn't give away candy?
And if so, what was it they gave away or

(15:55):
were you guys guilty.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Of doing anything like that?

Speaker 3 (15:57):
We were kind of guilty. Well, my mom almost was guilty.
She tried to give away fruits. She wanted to give
a cups of fruit away and me and my dad
talked her out of it. It's kind of embarrassing, and
I'm like, oh my god, She's like, she gave it
to one kid and they stared at her.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Oh, and then that was the end. And that was
the end of that. That was really embarrassing. Though, Taylor,
you're here too.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
What anything growing up that was an alternative to candy
that I'm going to ask the second part that you
actually thought was cool pennies.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Pennies.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
Yeah, when I was like, you know, elementary school, you'd
go to Tilly's house and you'd get a handful of pennies.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
If you didn't get an apple. Oh my god, this apple.
It's worse thing.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
It's like almost like a rite of passage in our
little town and everyone goes trick or treating gets a
handful of pennies from Tilly.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Is not going to work today, That's not That's not
gonna get you very far. I'm asking this because personally,
I think that the candy is a little overkilled when
the kids come home at the end of the night, Like, realistically,
what are they eating like.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Ten percent of it?

Speaker 1 (16:54):
You know, at the end of the day you're going
to bring the left over to the office if you
still go into work.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
And also it's not exactly the healthiest thing.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
But I'm also not a fan of people who do
the toothbrush and or flow.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Yeah, no, that's awful.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
So if we were to come up with some ideas
and again. Eight six six, nine two seven four to
three six one is the number. What is a fun
alternative you think to giving out on Halloween?

Speaker 4 (17:18):
Well, at my house we are very allergy friendly, So
not only do we have allergy friendly candy, but we
also do like spider rings and little like keychain like poppets.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Oh, those are good, like little matchet poppets. Those are fun.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
I like that. Even if you struggle with allergies with candy,
come to my house.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
I see cool stuff for you. That is a really
good idea.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
If anybody else has any more suggestions, eight sixty six
nine two seven four to three sixty one is the
number we're looking for fun alternatives to Halloween candy. Now
we're gonna get to those calls in just a few minutes,
but first we want to share a story that we
think will make your Monday.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
This comes from DuPont Circle in DC. This man was.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Hired to wash dishes at a restaurant and he is
now become the owner. We have said restaurant. We'll share
the heartwarming rise in the ranks as Toby and Chilli
in the Morning continues on ninety seven point one Washcheff
ninety seven point one wash FM. It's Toby and Chili
in the morning. I am Chili Amar and it's Monday morning,

(18:22):
which means we are going to share a story that
we think will make your Monday. This is a story
about Carlos Gonzalez. He started working at Pizzeria Paradiso back
in two thousand, washing dishes at the original location in
DuPont Circle. That's where his sister helped to get him hired. Well,
let's fast forward almost twenty five years. Carlos has climbed

(18:45):
his way through nearly every position in the kitchen, from
dishwasher to prepcook and assistant kitchen manager. And now Carlos
will get to be an owner. That's right. The owner,
Ruth Er, really was so impressed with Carlos's dedication and
leadership from the very beginning, and she relied on him

(19:08):
so much to lead the kitchen when they opened a
second location in Georgetown. Since then, Paradiso has grown to
include two more locations, and Carlos has been a huge
part of making all that happen. So when she and
Carlos recently sat down to talk about the future of
the restaurants, she basically said, you know what, I can't

(19:29):
think of anyone else that I would rather have owned
the restaurants than you. And Carlos's dedication from day one
has paid off and she was able to help him
realize this amazing dream. So we want to thank both
Carlos Gonzalez and Ruth Kresser for having a story that

(19:54):
truly made our Monday. And if there's a heartwarming story
from the DC area you want us to share, feel
free to find us in the Toby and Chili page
at waschefam dot com and coming up in just a
few minutes, we're going to get you up to speed

Are you typically giving away candy for Halloween? Or do
you do nothing? I don't do anything. I haven't done
anything in a while. But here's my Listen.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Like, I live in an apartment building now, so nobody
like comes in.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
I would think a lot of people would go through
all those apartment doors. Man, I would if I were
a kid.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
I'm not gonna be home, That's okay, that's fair enough.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Also, you know, we were talking earlier about how now
that we're in a place where people realize you can't
possibly go through all of that candy that your kids

fun alternatives to pass out on Halloween? Okay, fun not
talking toothbrushes or flaws or raisins. And we wanted to

get some of your ideas. Eight six six nine two

next year, I'm gonna get little bubbles that you can
buy like in bottle, all right, and just give out

You know, Kid's all fun with that.

Caroline, you are part of the show from rest And
you said somebody did something fun last year?

Speaker 2 (23:40):
What was it? Last year?

Speaker 3 (23:41):
When I was taking my kids treating, they gave out
hot chocolate and I thought that was such a good
idea because sometimes it's cold on Halloween.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
I don't know about this year's supposed to be like
eighty degrees. I know, right, it's gonna be very very
balmy Halloween. Maybe bottle water now I'm kidding.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
Yes, those little miniature bottles of water you've been walking
away kids.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Here's a refreshment.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
Thanks so much for being part of the show, Caroline
in Gaithersburg.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Corey, you remember something from your childhood? What was it?

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Oh? Made venison jerky?

Speaker 2 (24:11):
That sounds horrible.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
I can't say it's.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
A little weird, but I mean you can't really mess
up jerky. But do you like jerky?

Speaker 4 (24:18):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (24:18):
I loved it.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
In that case, it all worked out for you. Thanks
so much for calling Corey. Rebecca falls Church, what's your suggestion?

Speaker 3 (24:51):

Speaker 4 (24:56):

Speaker 1 (24:56):
