Speaker 2 (00:05):
Morning DC, Nation's Capital Capital Region and people streaming online
to ninety seven point one wash FM. Your iHeart app
is fired up this morning and we're Toby and Chilly
in the morning. There's always something to be joyful and
happy about as we get a brand new day started.
It's the little things that make a big difference. And
it really could be anything. Do you have anything that
(00:25):
comes to mind this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
They're chilling.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
Yes, a toilet issue.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Look, oh lord, let me tell you. I had to
get up in.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
The middle of the night to use the restroom and
I noticed that there was some sort of a leak
at the base of the toilet.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
I texted my husband. It was eleven fifteen pm. I said,
something's wrong with the toilet, Toby. This man, who is
not a handy person, found the issue and fixed it.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
In the middle of the night.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
And well, not for us in the middle, for me,
in the middle of the night, off for him.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
He was watching the football game either woh, well, you know, well,
there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
I was gonna say something else was bringing me joy,
but you know what brought me some joy this morning
when I woke up related to that football game. What
the fact that the Ravens pulled off a last minute victory,
but I took the other team to win with the
points and they did. So I'm happy as a guy
who kind of likes the Ravens that they pulled off
a win and that I won finally the first game
(01:24):
on a Thursday night. And my fan is in my
not fantasy pool, but in my pick'm pool because I'm
the worst of picking against the spread. Yeah, it's too
many variables, so you've got to find something to be
joyful about. There's always something to be thrilled about.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
In the morning.

for me yesterday or cole Brew. I forgot it was
in the fridge, so what a beautiful surprise when I
came across it this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
I love Duncan, but they screw mine up all the time.
They brought me the frozen like a slushy frozen version
of ice coffee.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
But you know, what little things that bring you joy?
Speaker 2 (02:05):

your thoughts about this story? The guy broke himself into
a coffee house, a coffee shop, that's the big name
thought pinky up to pull himself a cup. I hope
it was with risking life, limb and lawn incarceration.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
This was actually in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This happened and when
they found him, he was like, Oh, I'm sorry, I
just decided to make myself a cup.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
Really, you're that desperate.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Aren't there places that are open, even in Fredericksburg, Virginia
that you could have gotten a cup of coffee?
Speaker 3 (02:58):
You know?
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Call us with your thoughts on how to talk back microphone, Mike,
good morning, thank you for jumping in down in Silver Spring.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
What's up?
Speaker 7 (03:06):
One time I ran out of coffee at home, but
in order to have had some use to mixing my machine.
I know some people do that, but it was sitting
there for days, so I decided to just use it
and I had my precious cup of coffee after all.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Thanks Mike. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
That doesn't seem like precious to me. That seems like old.
But okay, I've done that. Oh don't laugh now.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
You know, like those gift baskets that you get with
little bags of coffee, I found one that was ten
years old when I got desperate and used it.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
You know, they say admission of something like that is
the first step to it overcoming an addiction to caffeine
and coffee. But that's an acceptable one. Stephanie, good morning
in Fairfax.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
What up with you?
Speaker 7 (03:42):
One time I woke up at five am just to
catch a coffee truck that was only in my neighborhood
for an hour.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
I couldn't stand the thought of missing out on that
perfect cup of coffee.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
I didn't even know coffee trucks were a thing.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Well, maybe the person delivers to like grocery stores or something,
and she thought maybe she could like sweet talk the guy.

Maybe you've heard of one Bob Marley. You know he's
on those Sandals commercials. That's one of his songs when
he and his Whalers. He says, though, amongst other things
that he said in his prolific life, don't live for
your presence to be noticed, but for your absence to
be felt. Bob Marley says, don't live for your presence
to be noticed, but for your absence to be felt.
(04:54):
If you were gone today, would they feel it or
would it just be like, oh, hey, we're here, Yeah, okay.
Why are you living just to be noticed? You're better
than that. Make your absence felt if you're gone. Keep
that in mind today, especially after the week you've had.
Maybe you need to hear that. Maybe it spoke to you.
(05:15):
If it did, share it with somebody else. You'll find
it on the Toby and Chili page at WASHFM dot com.

another nice mild day, sunny, breezy, high's around seventy three

Speaker 2 (09:20):

Are you signed in?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Then you can use the talkback microphone to get involved
or give us a call now at eight sixty six
nine two seven forty three sixty one. This might really
apply to you. What's the most desperate thing you've done
for a cup of coffee? Earlier, we were talking about
how some dude in Fredericksburg broke into a coffee shop
just to get some coffee. That's really desperate, risking going
(09:46):
to jail incarceration for breaking and entering and stealing some coffee.
I mean, that's desperate. Have you done anything quite that desperate?
Maybe not illegal, desperate, but really desperate. Would love to
hear about it. So the phones are all and give
us a call if you want to jump into the
conversation right now, we'll get some of your calls. Next
with Toby and Chili in the Morning, Danelle and Laurel,
(10:07):
Good morning. We're Toby and Chilly in the Morning at
ninety seven point one WATCHFM. We're earlier when we're talking
about how desperate times call for desperate measures, especially if
you need your cup of Joe in the morning.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Do you have something to share.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Yes. So my mom loves coffee, like really loves coffee.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
She drinks it every day.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
So our coffee machine broke, and I came home from.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Work and I saw her in bed.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
I'm like, why are you.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Lying, doup, She's my coffee machine broke.
Speaker 7 (10:34):
So for three days you laid in bed, didn't move
the press, didn't want.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
To talk to nobody.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
I had to go on YouTube and learn how to
strain coffee and go through the entire process.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
And then I.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Brought it to her and she proked right back up
and something she wanted to speak to everybody. Why didn't
you just buy a new coffee maker? That seems a
nowful lot of work. Well, at the time, I don't remember.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
I don't think we had Amazon on our account.
Speaker 7 (11:00):
I had to go purchase Amazon time to make sure
it came like the next day because she wanted a
specific coffee machine.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Oh my lord, that's some serious dedication and labor.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
But the truth is, you're absolutely right, Chanel and Laurel.
There are people who are very peculiar about their coffee.
They can't just take this random you know, wheel of coffee.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Coffee.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
They have to have their coffee their way, made this way,
light and sweet, with this and.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
That and a very specific machine that's right, and this
brand too.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
Literally, she literally takes only the Starbucks streamer and I
think Columbian Coffee and all of this sufde that.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I'm like, Mom, I'll just give you my card, buy it.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Have fun. Daughter of the Year, Sanew, Daughter of the Year.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Toby and Chili's nearly impossible question.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
All right, well we got today there at Chilia mar
one in ten people are afraid of this animal.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Now? It's not a pet? Okay, that's all I'll say.
It's not an animal that's typically a pet.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I was going to ask a question, but I might
have given it a reay by saying something that I was
going to say. So I'm not going to but I
will say this, Pentatonics not an animal. Eagle Bank Arena

The game is on. We call it the nearly impossible question.
It's your chance to go see Pentatonics with these tickets

Speaker 2 (12:56):
That's how we don't absolutely for these Pentatonic tickets.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Here's the question again.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
One in ten people are afraid of this animal. Now
it's not a pet. Which animal is it?
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Though?
Speaker 5 (13:07):
Squirrels?
Speaker 3 (13:08):
You scared of some squirrels? Little squirrel.
Speaker 7 (13:10):
I'm not scared of squirrels, but I can see why
people would be.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Why do you reckon? They scared of squirrels.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
There's sometimes a little bit too aggressive and friendly, especially
when they're scoot around.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
What was that Bill Murray? Who who's owny squirrel?
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Squirrels can feel good, very embold and and brave. They
don't care. They'll grab your snacks run out of your hands.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Congratulations, squirrels would be the correct answer. That means you're
going to take your squarely self to go see some Pentatonics.
Speaker 3 (13:36):

All right, you have a great day too, talk to
you later.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Used to be careful on that Buckystown Pike. There's a
speed trap.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Absolutely, I just made that up. I don't know if
that's true. But thanks for listening to us this morning,
no problem, thank you, all right, hang on the line.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Top Stories, it's the Top of the Hour. That's the
news on the way in minutes. We're Toby and.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Chilly in the morning on Friday.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
President elect Donald Trump has named Susie Wiles, who's the
manager of his victorious campaign as his wine house chief
of staff. She's going to be the first woman to
hold that position now. Wiles' dad is legendary sports broadcaster
Pat Summer. All Some businesses near the White House started
removing the plywood barriers after the election was over, but
(14:40):
others are being a little bit more cautious. Some owners
say they're going to reassess the situation next week, and
others are thinking about remaining boarded up throughout inauguration day.
Federal authorities are investigating after black people in several states,
including here locally reported getting racist text messages after the election.
(15:00):
They can contain messages like quote, You've been selected to
pick cotton at the nearest plantation, and other offensive remarks.
Dry windy collections have raised concerns about the risk of
wildfires in the DMV. Maryland has actually enacted a ban
on open fires. The state has already had a series
of wildfires in areas around Gaithersburg and Poolsville. Now, a
(15:23):
new casino has opened in Prince William County. The Rose
Gaming Resort held its grand opening in Dumfries yesterday. It's
expected to generate over thirty five million dollars in tax
revenue for the state of Virginia each year, and the
FDA plans to pull a widely used ingredient in cough
and cold medicines, fenalf Rain, due to its lack of
(15:45):
effectiveness as a nasal de congestant. So data shows that
low absorption levels in the body prompt and prompts a
proposal for its removal from the over the counter products.
Forecast for today sunny, breezy eyes, round seventy three, right
now forty nine and rest.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Ninety seven point one WASHFM Toby and Chilly in the
Morning at eight sixty six nine two seven forty three
sixty one. If you want to give us call, speak out,
say what's on your mind? Talk back microphone works too.
Coming up next story that'll give you all of the feels,
step by step. A member of the law enforcement community
after a tragic accident is making a slow and steady
but sured comeback. It's a story that will inspire just
(16:27):
in time for the weekend and perfect for a Friday,
so we can all feel good about life that's on
the way. Stay with Toby and Chilly in the morning,
ready to feel all of the fields that feel good
after a very long week. On a Friday, It's ninety
seven point one was wash FM. Shall we let's with
a story about a police officer in the DMV who's
we're turning to work after some very very tough challenges.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
Montgomery County Sergeant Patrick Kepp was actually hit by a
speeding teenage driver on to seventy just over a year ago,
and his goal this whole time was to get back
to work.
Speaker 8 (17:03):
The thought of not coming back never cross my mind,
and I love what.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
I do, but the comeback was tough. He lost both
legs after being hit by this team driver.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
It is learning how to walk again. There's a lot
of trust, like trusting that the prosthetics are going to
do what they're supposed to do. And that's a weird
concept when you don't have legs and you're relying on
something mechanical to do that for you.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
And boy did he work hard.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Because Kep is back to teaching at the police academy
and he insists that he wants to be back on
police duty on the roads again.
Speaker 8 (17:37):
I'm just thankful to still be here and be alive
and be walking and be working and being around the
people that have given me that support from day one,
and I'm very lucky and grateful for it.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Montgomery County Sergeant Patrick Kepp's return to work is a
story that just feels good and inspires on a Friday.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
You know, if you've got a heartwarming story in your
life or in your community.

really is inspiring.

O'Brien says he feels robbed Chilli.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Yeah, he said he robbed himself of fun while he
was a writer on SML because he was so intense
when he was doing the job.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
All work and no play makes Conan O'Brien a dull boy.
But is there a special moment in life that you
wish you would have enjoyed more than you did?
Speaker 3 (19:31):
For whatever reason? Children, I think some brides can relate.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
I wish I was more in the moment as I
was walking down the aisle towards dawn, just to kind
of take in his reaction to seeing me and stuff,
because I was just so overwhelmed with it that I
don't remember it much.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
What about you, I think that most dads who were
insecure not really ready to be a dad, you know,
or maybe just me. I think that I wasn't mature
enough in my growth as a human being to understand
exactly how beautiful, special and precious the exact moment that
my daughter was born at one twenty three on March
thirtieth on an island in Tampa was. I was more
(20:08):
just overwhelmed and clueless, I think, and I did very.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Life altering thing having a child come into the world,
and I.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Didn't see it as being as life altering as it
ultimately had been. So I do wish that I would
have taken the time to have actually exhaled and enjoyed
the moment and realized how special that was. Now, if
you're listening and you have one of these moments, maybe
something you've heard is talking about, or maybe you heard
the coning story and you can relate to it. We
