it's the fifth day of the year, but it's the

how many days do we get to say Happy New
Year to people before it's like okay, it's it's a yeah,
it's been I.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Think that the month long joy we talked about with
birthdays and stuff like that. You get all January to
say Happy New Year, and then February you got to
move on to Valentine's Day.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
It's like, good to see you it's been a while,
it has been good. Happy New Year. And also one
other thing real quick, I'm feeling joy because I remembered
when I was writing down something this morning and my
notebook to put twenty six because it takes a while
to remember to put twenty twenty six instead of twenty
twenty five.

Now we can't say that we encountered any travel nightmares
because we stayed local this Christmas.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
That's one of the reasons I'm grateful. I'm from the
DC area. All close family lives right here. I know
you could have gone to Texas to visit your parents,
but you didn't have to deal with any delayser cancelations
because you stayed put.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Nope, and no drama from the family, and well, you know, plus,
at the same point in time, I just didn't feel
up to traveling, you know, making my way through the
airport with a bum knee. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
And if anybody's having any fomo that you didn't get
to travel, maybe these stories we're gonna hear right now
will make you feel better that you stayed put.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Like, for instance, Leslie, who's listening to us in Fairfax
this morning. You had a really bad travel experience.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Once upon a time, we had to emergency land and
transferred to a smaller plane.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
It was storming out and turbulence was crazy. It was
so bad that every time someone spoke it sounded like
they're talking directly into an electric fan. Luckily, we landed
in Saint Lucia safely, but boy, was that a terrifying experience.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Oh lord, that's when the xanax comes in handy.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, that's anxiety magnified. No bueno. And in Damascus, Bethany,
what happened while you were traveling?

Speaker 5 (06:58):
I was once stuff at an airport for hours with
no clear updates, and it felt like everything was out
of my control. At that point, the frustration just built up.
It's one of those situations where you really.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Need patience, but it can be tough when.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
You're already tired and stressed. Exhaustion definitely amplifies all the emotions, yes.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
But you have to try to keep your cool because
these days somebody will record a video of you and
then the next thing you know, you're that person on
TikTok or insta. So what was your travel nightmare, either
over the holidays or maybe once upon a time? Tell

It's cancel. It won't be till six at night, and
I had to turn around come back. You know, Jessica,
thanks for sharing that. But I'm one of those people.
I'll just keep going to the airport. I don't trust it.

That's exactly what they say, camp out at the airport people.
Thank you for the call. Now, Matthew, what happened to you?
And by the way, thanks for listening this morning at
Oxen Hill.

some reason all their flights got canceled at once and
we have to go to a different airline to try
and like help have them help us out, and that
airline was like, oh god, they do this all the time.
I ended up sleeping in an airport in the middle
of the night in Norway for about ten hours. But
on top of it, I had the flu. So it
was just awful.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
There's nothing worse to punctuate an already bad experience by
getting sick.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Right, I mean, come on, I mean Normally I'd be
excited that you had to crash in Norway, I'd be

road tripper who's got a horror story.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Am I in Lorton? What happened?

Speaker 6 (13:43):
Well, let's see, when I was going from Florida to

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Okay, well that's a lot of kissing. So you think
women will spend fourteen days of their life kissing a partner?

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Yeah, you think that's like not enough time, because I
think if you're passionately in love, wouldn't it be a
higher number. What's your experience been there? Randy?

I'm single?

Speaker 2 (18:56):
All right? Well, you know what, hopefully one day if

we think we'll make your Monday. Frontline peacemakers how a
new DC program is training residents to step in and
stop violence before it even starts.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
On the way next hang out and now it's time
for a story that we think might just make your Monday.
Toby and Chilly in the Morning on ninety seven point
one wash FM, we go to the streets of DC
conflicts they can turn dangerous, but a new group of
residents is stepping forward to change the story. Through the
the city's Violence Interrupted Program. Everyday, neighbors are learning how

(20:03):
to prevent fights, how to calm tense situations, and how
to guide people towards safer choices before violence has a
chance to take hold.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
So over weeks of training, participants they gain hands on
skills in de escalation, also mediation, and situational awareness, while
they're also learning the softer arts of listening and mentoring
and also building trust within their communities.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
And when they graduate, they return to their neighborhoods, they're
ready to act as peacemakers. They step into high tension
moments and they connect with that risk youth, fostering stronger
bonds between residents and local authorities.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
It's great because this program has really helped reduce street
violence in participating areas and also has created a ripple
effective trust that shows that ordinary community members can be
really powerful agents of safety and.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Change, empowering residents to intervene with care and confidence. This
is a program it's turning the idea of community safety
into a shared living practice, one conversation, one intervention, one
life at a time.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
So we want to say thank you to these violence
interrupters for having a story that really did make our Monday,
and you can read more about it on the Toby

in there, because that flu is spreading, like I mean,
it was the first thing in the news this morning.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
I know it's definitely spreading. No, we're beyond contagion. It's
just going to take a while to get out of
your system. But I'm grateful that my family lives in
the area, so this is not like the only time
