Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point one.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
At that do we have to do?
Speaker 3 (00:06):
We have to Can we just go back to bed today,
Chili and call it a day early ninety seven point
one wash at them or Toby and Chile in the morning.
Welcome to Monday, eight sixty six nine two seven forty
three sixty one. Before we get this seventeenth day of
the month started, let's talk about why it is that
we're feeling good this morning. Give us a call, tell
(00:27):
us why you are all up in the positive feels
as we get this brand new day started, even if
you have to fake it because it is Monday?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Why are you feeling good?
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Chill?
Speaker 5 (00:37):
A week from today, Fairfax County schools back in session.
I believe the same for Moco. But my son will
start middle school, and I'm glad that we are home
stretch because I'm a little anxious and also excited for
him to start a new chapter. So that's why I'm
feeling good. Why are you feeling good?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Because it's Monday, and I think the Monday sometimes gets
a bad rap?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
You know? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Do I wish, like a lot of people that I
could just have rolled over this morning and gone back
to bed.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Sure, but here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Monday is the one day I think of every week
where we get life to virtually hand us a clean
sheet of paper. Last week, even the weekend that's behind us.
Now we get another swing at it today. It's another
at bath. You don't need to have a new year
or a new month sometimes, I think, Chili, we just
need to have a new Monday. And while this is
(01:30):
a new Monday for me, next Monday is going to
be a great Monday for you.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Know your son.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
You're selling morning mind study.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
I know, well, you know what that's because I'm trying
to embrace i' mean trying to embrace the positivity of Monday.
Sometimes you just need a new Monday, you know, so
you can experience the joy that the kids feel on
the first day of school. Right at least that's what
I think. Well, let's get it started in here. Top
(01:59):
stories at the Top of the Hour on the way
in just a few minutes.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
What's going on.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Do you have trouble falling asleep? Well, experts have shared
the ultimate sleep hack, and I'll tell you what it is.
Coming up in just a few Top Stories Top of
the Hour a US Iran ceasefire deal is set to
expire today, with very little sign that either side wants
(02:24):
to renew it. The agreement aimed to pause fighting, reopen
the Strait of Hormuse, and lift a US naval blockade.
Actress Hayden Panetia has died at the age of thirty six.
No cause of death was given. She was known for
the NBC series Heroes, also the musical drama Nashville, and
(02:44):
the Scream horror franchise. She leaves behind an eleven year
old daughter. Investigators have new details on a weekend shooting
that wounded five people at Virginia State University. Police arrested
nineteen year old Cameron Harris of Henriiko. He was found
hiding in a closet and charged him with malicious wounding
(03:05):
and firearm used in a felony motive still not known.
A ten year old girl was bitten by a beaver
last week while canoeing at Seneca Creek State Park in
Montgomery County. Officials have closed part of the creek and
a mile of trail while they search for the animal.
A Maryland company is voluntarily recalling soup kits that are
(03:25):
sold at Walmart's over listeria concerns. Cattle Cuisine LLC's fourteen
ounce soup kits were sold between June thirtieth and July seventh,
and the recall effects select Walmart stores in Maryland, Virginia,
and six other states. And apparently, reading a book before
bed might be the ultimate sleep Haack experts say it's
(03:49):
not going to knock you out completely, but it can
help you relax and quiet your mind. Forecast for today
partly cloudy skies with a chance of an isolated shower
or storm later hides around ninety right now, seventy four
in Beltsville.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
That's your first look at the news this morning with
Toby and Chilly's top stories at the top of the
hour ninety seven point one WASHFM on and in just
a few minutes, we want to check in with you
and see how you're doing on this new week, this.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
New Monday morning.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Oh your morning mindset, it's on the way in just
a few minutes. So if you need a little extra
dose of inspiration in your morning coffee, we got you,
at least we think in a few.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
You doing on this Monday morning.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Ninety seven point one WASHFM, Toby and chilly in the
morning time. Now for us to take a second to
turn our attention squarely on you and how you are
at this time. We call this your morning mindset.
Speaker 5 (04:43):
We find a quote and we share it with you,
something for you to think about as you take on
the rest of your day.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
You know Amelia Earhart, Yes, she was a famed flyer.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Her story is very interesting.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
If you ever go down a YouTube rabbit hole, well,
she says, or said, the most difficult thing is the
decision to act. The rest is merely tenacity. I would
add the words this morning to it, and then I
would say, the most difficult thing is the decision to act.
The rest is merely tenacity, Amelia Earharts. You know, I
(05:22):
think sometimes we feel like we have to respond right away,
or solve a problem right away, or get everything handled
right away, because well, right away is the way we
are in society and life. Now, you get a message
and you feel like you have to respond to it,
you post something, you feel like you got to go
see if anybody's reacting to it.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Nah, nah, nah.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
You don't have to solve anything this morning. You don't
need to solve the entire problem this morning. Maybe just
part of it. Make one decision that gets you moving.
The rest will handle itself. Amelia Earhart. The most difficult
thing is the decision to act. The rest is merely tenacity.
That is your morning mindset. You got something to share
(06:05):
that might inspire the class, Well, you know where to
find us. Send our way, Toby and chillipage washfm dot
com and you'll find today's morning mindset if you want
to share it with somebody floating around in our Insta stories, Facebook,
all of these.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Things because that's where they go next.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
With Toby and Chilliya in the Morning here on ninety
seven point one WASHFM.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
Toby says he's having some mixed feelings about taking his
girlfriend on an upcoming work trip.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yeah, I'll explain. Toby and Tilly in the Morning on
ninety seven point one wash FM. And as always, if
you've got thoughts, jump into the conversation. You can call us,
you can tap the talkback microphone if you're signed in
listening on your iHeart app. It's real easy and you
have a voice in a place at this table this morning,
as you get your day started with ninety seven point
one WASHFM. Now, before you go making fun understand that
(06:55):
this is something that I never have ever done before.
I've got to go to New York coming up in
November for a Saturday work related meeting. It's one of
those meetings where they cover your transportation. You know, you're
in this case of sella and hotel, and the hotel's covered,
that's right, right, right? Then you know how to hotels
(07:15):
in New York can be. So I thought it might
be fun if my significant other kind of tagged along.
I'll do what I have to do on Saturday, and
then Saturday night we can go and take in the
city as it starts to transition into Christmas liming.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
Sounds lovely. What's wrong with that?
Speaker 3 (07:31):
I've never taken a significant other with me and had
them kind of hang out in the room that somebody
else is paying for while I'm on a work related trip.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
I rationalize it by saying, my work's going to be
done at five o'clock on Saturday, which is an evening
in the city.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
That's right. I mean she's not. She's paying for her
own way getting there, right, I'm assuming right, And she's
not the type of person, at least from stories I've
heard from you that needs babysitting, so she's fine while
you're doing the actual work earlier in the day to
kind of do her own thing. And if she's just
crashing in a room that somebody else is paying for,
then no harm, no foul. Because you've known each other,
(08:07):
you've been together for over seven years. It's not like
somebody you just started dating, you know what I mean, Like,
I think it's fine at.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
This point, Well, then why am I feeling some sort
of way about it?
Speaker 5 (08:16):
You tell me?
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
It's almost like, if I were to describe the feeling,
it's almost like a reserved guilt, Like I feel guilty
doing that.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
I don't know why. Maybe it's because it's not me
paying for it.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
Maybe yeah, I mean I would feel guilty if you
were somehow taking advantage of the situation, Like you're using
the stipend for food, but she's eating the food. There's
nothing that she's taking advantage of. That's an extra that,
you know what I'm saying, Like, then that would get
a little shady, But I think that's one of the
great things about being able to join a partner on
a work trip is if part of that is like
(08:48):
the room is already taken care of, so go for it.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
In my opinion, eight sixty six ninet two seven forty

significant other on a work.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Trip, Yeah AND i feel like a degree of guilt
as a result of, it Because i'm even considering it
because you, Know i'm not paying for, it AND i
guess that's some sort of weird ethical Dilemma i'm. Having
but some people SAY i should not be having that.
Dilemma chili eight six six nine two seven forty three
sixty one In, Germantown, riley what's you think you are.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
Feeling guilty for absolutely?
Speaker 5 (13:26):
Nothing See, Riley that's WHAT i, said especially since the
girlfriend's going to pay her own way to get, there
and it's not like he's going to be using any
of his true work time to hang out with. Her so,
yeah that's me And riley saying go for.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
It AND i THINK i can trust that she's not
going to run up the incidental's bill on the, room
if you know WHAT i, Mean.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
Well you'd be responsible for, that, yes.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
And that would be no. Bueno, hey we're all trying
to save these. Days thank, You. Riley chad In, arlington good, Morning.
THOUGHTS i don't. Know i'd say it depends depends on
WHAT i.
Speaker 7 (14:00):
Mean if you're brand new to the, JOB i, MEAN
i wouldn't be taking a significant other on a work.
TRIP i, mean even if it's not cost in the company,
anything because you're really kind of keeping a secret from
them of. Sorts but if it's a job you're pretty secure, in,
yeah bring her, along but just let her know that
it's first and foremost a business, trip and you know
there are going to be obligations where you've got to
(14:21):
keep work first and then one stuff.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
Second sounds like a great. Plan thanks so much for
calling with that, advice.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
And, chad thank you for jumping into the conversation From.
Arlington it's ninety seven point one WASHCH. Fm gonna want
to get your take on this one paid sixty six
ninety two seven forty three sixty. One in just a few,
minutes we're going to talk about what The university Of
michigan is doing for mental health of some. Freshmen they've
made a decision and this move has some people feeling
(14:50):
some sort of. Way what do you think of? It
we'll tell you what it is and we'll talk more coming.
Up sheby And chilly in the. Morning it is ninety
seven point One WASHING fm With Washington's variety for You
monday from the, eighties, nineties and. Today the Headline university
Of michigan won't use letter grades for some freshmen next.
Fall starting in fall of twenty twenty, Seven, chili the
(15:12):
freshman At Michigan's college Of Literature science in the odds
will get a pass or no credit on their transcripts
for the first.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Semester, Yeah so the thinking behind this, Is, look there's
so much stress for these incoming freshmen trying to get
a good, grade and they don't want them to be
discouraged if they're get A c or A d that first.
Semester so, yeah they'll be keeping track of their, grade
but in the end they'll either be passing that class
or just not getting credit for that.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Class and not everybody's sold on the. Idea some, are
but some.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Aren't, No, LIKE.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
I get why they're doing, this BUT i think that
it's simplifying it a little too much saying, that, oh
the pressure of grades is what leads to the whole
mental health. Thing there's also the isolation factor here where
kids are starting all over with their social circle that
leads to. That so what is the school going to
do about? That it's not just a one thing and real, Life, toby,
uh people do keep track of your not, grade but your.
(16:10):
Performance so are we really preparing them for post college
if we're holding their hands so gently? Here i'm not
really sure If i'm sold on.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
THAT i don't. KNOW i feel Like i'm okay with.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
It we already have situations in high school and whatnot
where kids can go and retake something they might have
not done so well on and then they get reassessed
so they can demonstrate their mastery after the fact they just.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Needed a little more time and.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Remediation that's almost kind of like the same thing if
the kid did it first and the kid didn't do
so well on. IT i, mean that's. Life life doesn't
always come with a second. Chance so when it comes
to this whole, SITUATION i think these kids have been
kind of been prepared for a past failed sort of a.
Situation let's go easy on them first, semester and then
let's start ramping it up to your. Point let's let
(17:01):
them adjust to the social parts of, things and then
by the time they're fully, acclimated then hit them with
THE a and THE b or THE d whatever the
case may. Be thoughts should we dump letter grades for
a pass or no credit sort of?
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Gimmick what do you?
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Think eight, six, six, nine, two, seven forty three sixty.

Animal shelter In Fairfax, accounting you find kids and they're
(23:06):
all sprawled out on little pads on the floor and
they're reading story books out loud to cats behind the. Glass,
well that is the scene Every tuesday afternoon this summer
at the Shelter's lorton, campus where hundreds of kids have

And there's no appointment. Needed all the kids have to
do is grab a book from the, shelves and the
shelter definitely keeps that, stocked and then they just find
a spot next to a. Cat doesn't have to be a,
Cat it could be a, rabbit a guinea, pig even a.
Parakeet and the shelter staffs say that when the program first,
started the animals seemed a little bit confused by it,
all like why are these little people reading to? It
but they've warmed up to it pretty, fast and it
(23:49):
turns out this isn't just good for the kids who

Speaker 3 (23:52):
Reading, yeah because research Shows chilly that animals who get
more interaction with, people they tend to become more. Adaptable
