Toby and Chilly Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point one.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Washef out if you're wondering about the day ahead, Well,
they say you should do your outdoor stuff early and
keep the umbrella handy later. Let's let later worry about
itself later. Shall we welcome to a brand new day?
Toby and Chilly in the morning. It's ninety seven point
one wash FM Thursday in the Nation's Capital eight six
six nine two seven forty three sixty one. Why are
(00:25):
you feeling good this morning there at Chilia mar.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I'm feeling good because today's the open house for my
son's middle school. He's starting seventh grade, which is the
first year of middle school, and where we live in
Fairfax County, and so he gets to schedule today Toby, Yeah,
that's fun. This afternoon, my husband and I, along with
our son Donado, we'll go to the school together at
one o'clock and we will walk to his different classes
(00:50):
and classrooms and meet his teachers. So I'm feeling good
because I'm looking forward to kind of seeing how he
adjusts to this.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
New normal next week when school starts.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
So yeah, this is growing up to quote that Blink
one two song from back in the day, and I
remember those first days of school. They were always fun.
There was anticipation, probably a degree of anxiety, but you
know what, back to school is on the brain of
everybody right about now in the DMV. I'm feeling good
because yesterday I did something proactive with our insurance company.
(01:22):
You know how they require pre authorization for a lot
of things. M Well, there was some back and forth
that caused me to miss two months of physical therapy
because of approvals between insurance companies and hospitals. It was
kind of crazy, honestly. Well, knowing that I have six
sessions left from this approval, I went and shot the
(01:46):
fired off the shot across the bout with the insurance
company and said, hey, this needs to happen. It needs
to be seamless. I do not want to lose two
months of physical therapy again because of whatever. And so
they're on it. The good people at the insurance company
are on it today and I should expect an email
confirmation of different things that they're doing to make sure
(02:09):
that we're ready to go. I mean, I didn't come
across as angry, but I just called an asked, and
I worked ahead and wasn't last minute, so little wins,
especially when dealing with the insurance cartel, I mean the
insurance companies. It is ninety seven point one watch FM.
You're feeling good, tell us why we're right here listening
and your joy is contagious. In the meantime, we got
(02:30):
to get to the news Top stories at the top
of the hour. On the way, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Some shocking news came down last night. Not sure if
you heard, but Prince Harry and Megan Markle apparently are
moving back to the UK. I've got the latest details
coming up in just a.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
Few top stories top of the hour, the President says
the US is launching a quote crushing economic operation against
Iran after Tehran failed to make a deal.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Now he's warning of un precedented economic isolation and says
that any country who does business with Iran will face
steep consequences. Pilis, the man who's charged in the Great
Falls killing, had planned the attack, grabbing a knife, gloves,
and even a water bottle that he later filled with
gasoline before he met his victim at the park. The
(03:19):
nineteen year old suspect who worked with the forty two
year old rest and woman reportedly had an intimate relationship
with her. The Dallas Airport Board approved fifteen point five
billion dollars for the President's renovation. Planet's part of a
nearly twenty billion dollar overhaul that will include new underground tunnels,
(03:41):
replacing the people mover shuttles, and also rebuilding the main
terminal starting next year.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Frederick County students back to.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
School this week under new rules that require phones, smart
watches and even earbuds to stay off and out of
sight all day, with exceptions for medical needs. The district
is getting ahead of statewide Maryland law that requires similar
policies by next year, and Prince Harry and Megan Markle
are moving back to the UK this fall for an
(04:12):
extended stay, although they're not going to be working as royals.
Their kids have already been enrolled, apparently in British schools
as Harry works to reconnect with his father, King Charles,
who's going through cancer treatments. Forecast for today cloudy's guys,
with a chance of some severe storms later on highs
in the upper eighties.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Right now seventy two in Lorton.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
That's the news. Stay right there. It's ninety seven point
one WASHEF M Tilby and chilly in the morning. You
do it all right, want to check in with you
in just a few minutes. Your morning mindsets on the way.
Good morning and welcome to a brand new day. At
ninety seven point one, WASHEF M Tiby and chilly in
the morning. And it's time now for your morning mindset.
If you're just joining us for the first time, you
don't know what this is.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
This is when we find a quote and we share
it with you because we think if you think about
the message, it could inspire you as and motivate you
to take on the rest of your day.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Forever is composed of nows. That's from Emily Dickinson. Forever
is composed of now. So why is this important to
you and to I and to us this morning? Well,
we need to stop waiting for life to finally begin.
You know. Yeah, And it does not matter how old
(05:23):
you are. You could be twenty five, fifty five, whatever.
Are you waiting for your life to finally begin? Maybe
you think you're being productive, but argue that you can
answer that question. I can't answer it for you, nobody
else can answer it for you. But this morning, remember
that this is part of the life you've been waiting
for today, this moment right now, so stop waiting for
(05:47):
your life to finally begin all right Forever is composed
of Now's Emily Dickinson with your morning mindset for this Thursday.
Hopefully it spoke to you and if it did, share
it with someone who might need it. You can find
it the Instagram page. You can see it in our
stories and if you need it, hit me up on
the Toby and chilipage at washfm dot com. Either one
of us will be happy to send it your way.
(06:09):
Now hang out for a few minutes here at ninety
seven point one wash FM.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Single moms are making mom munes really popular. This may
actually be a very attractive option for you and you'll
hear more about it.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
It's like a commune, only it's not. It's a mom mune.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
The question this morning here at ninety seven point one
WASHEFM with Toby and Chilly in the morning, is would
you raise your kids with your best friend. Seems like
single moms are choosing to do just this across the
country and what they call the mom mune.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Yeah, there was actually a feature on the Today Show
two single mom teachers decided to move into a New
York City apartment together with their three kids to split
the housing finances and also the mental load of parenting.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
You know, it takes a village, and.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
It's certainly easier to do that when you have somebody
to share those responsibilities with.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
You know, then they're splitting up everything like you're cooking,
the rent, the chores, the child care. But they're not
a couple, so don't get it twisted. They're just like, hey,
we're friends, sometimes best friends. I would say chilly that
a mom mune sort of a thing fascinates me because
sometimes that can be a little bit too much on
(07:20):
a friendship, and I wonder what that might entail if
a mom mune goes bad.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
I will say, I've thought about doing this if I
ever got forbid, got a divorce, or lost my husband
in any way, shape or form. You would have to
choose the right people or person to do it with.
And the kids are the center of the home. So
this is all about helping you manage your life logistically
with the child and financially raising a child.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
It's six six, nine, seven, forty three sixty one. It's
the number you can also tap the talk back microphone.
If you have some thoughts, would you raise your kids
with your best friend in a mom mune sort of
a situation.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Or a dad june.
Speaker 6 (07:57):
Well, well I didn't say that, but you know what
that is true.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
I mean, like I need that do it? I couldn't.
I mean, what's good for the mom mune is good
for the dad yune. Right right. We just got a
talkback message from Brittany who is commuting into work this
morning with Aaron.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Can we live together?
Speaker 5 (08:13):
We have a mom mune and we wouldn't do anything
without it.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
It's amazing perfection.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Yes, thank you, and thank you for leaving that message.
Perfect she said, perfection, Chill.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
I think that in the area that we live in
and how expensive it is to raise kids, the mom
mune idea should continue to grow.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
There you go, think of a house. She could have
you split that rent between like two three four moms.
It's ninety seven point one watch FM. If you have thoughts,
you know where to find us. If you need the news,
don't go anywhere. Top stories at the top of the hour,
minutes away. So what's going on this morning?
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Have you ever walked out on a date? Well, they
did a survey, and we'll share the number one reason
adults say they left early.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
In just a few.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Minutes, let the work email wait till later. Nothing good
comes this morning, but you know what is good. Something
we have for you in just a few On ninety
seven point one WASHFM with Toby and Chilly in the Morning.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Tickets to Dave Matthews band CFG Bank Arena this November.
Listen right around six ten after Toby and Chili's Top Stories.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
And you can be caller ten and take those tickets.
By the way. The show CFG Bank Arena details WASHFM
dot Com.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Ninety seven point one WASHFM, Washington, an iHeartRadio station.
Speaker 7 (09:29):
Coming up on Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
The Treasury Department says the national debt has now topped
forty trillion dollars. We've got the latest on that story
and others on the way with Toby and Chili in
the Morning on ninety seven point one.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Wash FM.
Speaker 7 (09:47):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
The national debt has topped forty trillion dollars. That's according
to the Treasury Department, arriving sooner than analysts expected, partly
because courts struck down some of the pre visit it's tariffs,
cutting into revenue the government had counted on. Congressional Democrats
are launching an investigation into ice enforcement in northern Virginia
after an agent pointed a gun at a Louden County
(10:12):
woman during a traffic stop in Bailey's Crossroads. Lawmakers want
the agents involved pulled from duty pending review. The Kennedy
Center says it will not try to restore the president's
name to the building before September eighth, giving time for
legal arguments. Opponents say the board still seems intent on
defying an earlier court order that required the name's removal.
(10:36):
Airport's authority leaders say that Dulles's twenty two billion dollars
makeover will not come out of taxpayer's pockets. The fifteen
year overhaul will be funded through airport revenue, airline payments,
and bonds instead. Another rabid beaver has turned up in Maryland.
This one was found dead on Monday near Senega Creek
(10:56):
State Park, just downstream from where a ten year old
girl was bitten while she was swimming last week, but
it's not clear if it's the same beaver, and according
to a recent survey, forty nine percent of adults say
they walked out on a date early over bad behavior.
That's almost double the number of people who left because
of a misleading photo. Now, parents of young kids have
(11:18):
the least patients for it, with nearly two thirds saying
they've cut a bad date. Short forecast today cloudy's guys,
with a chance of severe storms later. Heiser in the
upper eighties. Right now, seventy three in Lantam.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Now that she's got your news fixed with Toby and
Chilly's top stories top of the hour, why don't you
be callar ten right now? Dave Matthews band coming to
Baltimore Cfg Bank Arena in November thanks to Live Nation.
If you want to go, call her ten. The tickets
are yours. That's all you got to do is call
and be Coller ten at eight sixty six nine two
seven forty three sixty one. Congratulations in advance from ninety
(11:57):
seven point one Wash FM.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
Call that's that cup.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Of coffee tastes great on the Baltimore Washington Parkway as
you make your way to wherever your morning might be
taking you. It's ninety seven point one, washef im? And
speaking of that coffee, did you get that with a
rewards program this morning? What are your favorite rewards programs?
Are they useful? We're talking about it and you might
(12:20):
have some thoughts at eight sixty six ninety two seven
forty three sixty one. Is it worth it to you
these loyalty programs? Ninety seven point one, Washchef M. Toby
and Chile in the morning at eighty six six nine
two seven forty three sixty one, if you want to
jump into this conversation. Loyalty programs are a way that
businesses do get data about the customers. I will say that.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Well, except you don't know how much data. And there
was a journalist for Wired. He requested his personal data
from McDonald's and he said he got back a five
hundred and fifteen page file that was packed with years
of his purchase history, his loyalty points, and even ai
predictions on exactly how often he would visit, what he'd spend,
(13:06):
and how likely he was to ever stop being a customer.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Are you using your mobile app for the order today?
I'd like you to know that we're keeping all of
your information for years.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
But they're using it in a smart I think, in
a smart business way.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Right.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
They're trying to see what this customer likes. How do
we keep this customer coming back? I have nothing against that.
And by the way, can we admit that some loyalty
programs are much better than others and where you do
get the most bang for your buck.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yeah, Like, I'll give all the data that I can
to Southwest Airlines because their rapid rewards program is one
of the best loyalty programs on the planet, period, hands down.
Speaker 6 (13:48):
Prove me wrong.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
I'll wait, that's funny you bring that up, because all
our loyalty points and programs are food related or restaurant related,
like for Silver Diner or Potbelly or all these places
where you order a certain amount and then you get
all these points and you can redeem it for sandwiches
and cookies and shakes.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
I mean, hello, pot Belly and Silverniner, tremendous loyalty programs.
Speaker 6 (14:12):
Prove her wrong, she'll waits.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
I think that loyalty programs are what you make of them,
and if they really do payoff, then I don't mind.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
And as long as that data is not being used
against you, then I don't mind.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Like, if this starts ending up on the deep web,
there's gonna be some sort of a class action Shenanigan.
And y'all know what I'm talking about because you've seen
it in the news when loyalty programs go sideways. So
tell us what are the best loyalty programs in your opinion?
Are they worth it? Eight six six nine two, seven
forty three sixty one Give us call because we're talking
(14:49):
this morning. Let's talk loyalty programs. Eight six six nine
two seven forty three sixty one Toby and Chilly in
the Morning. In your opinion, what loyalalty programs would be
the best? They're totally worth it. You swear by them.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Even though you know that the company is collecting some
personal data on you to help them become a better
business for you.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
And here at ninety seven point one WASCHFM with Toby
and Chilly in the Morning. We wanted to take the
pulse of these loyalty programs, the ones that really do
make a difference in your life in Boston this morning
over there near Arlington, Lacey, what's the loyalty program you
swear by?
Speaker 7 (15:33):
Sephorah Beauty Insider.
Speaker 8 (15:35):
If you shop at Sephora, even somewhat regularly, definitely join.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
What specifically do you like about it.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
The birthday parts, the points in the member events, they
add up.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
I bet they do. I wonder if my daughter's in
that loyalty program, because she should be. If she's not,
you'll excuse me. I think I'm going to send her
a text right now. Thank you, Lacey. Have a great
day in Boston, Kenneth, Hello there in Damascus. Best loyalty, But.
Speaker 8 (16:00):
Delta sky miles is worth it if you fly Delta
fairly often, since the miles can add up towards future
trips and upgrade.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Why is that one so great?
Speaker 8 (16:09):
I like the loyalty programs where the reward feels meaningful,
and getting close to a free flight definitely does that.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Yeah, I'm a member of the Delta Frequent Flyer gimmick,
also the United one, but I do not have the
kind of points that you have, sir, because I stick
with Southwest and they're rapid rewards program, which is far
superior in my opinion. Okay, is there a loyalty program
you swear by?
Speaker 6 (16:36):
Is it worth it? Should we go sign up for it?
Speaker 2 (16:39):
What is it? Tap to talk back microphone? Leave us
a quick voice note. You'll see that microphone. It's red.
It's gotta circle around it, tap speak send and tell
us what we should join. Thank you in advance, and
by the way, you need the news. Top Stories at
the top of the hour on the way in just
a few minutes. What's going on this morning?
Speaker 3 (16:55):

what's on your mind at eight sixty six nine two,
(22:18):
seven forty three sixty one This morning, who are we
talking to?
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Good morning, This is mel Mel, thanks for listening to
us in Fairfax. So what dilemma are you having with
your boyfriend? So?
Speaker 9 (22:31):
Okay, I go on this yearly vacation with my boyfriend
and his family, and because you know, they travel a lot,
they've racked up like a lot of miles, like a
lot of like airline miles, and they always, you know,
turn them in for vacation and they all get first.
Speaker 6 (22:49):
Class ooh boogie.
Speaker 9 (22:52):
Like including my boyfriend.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Okay, so what's the issue?
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Then?
Speaker 9 (22:56):
I don't have like all these airline miles. So I
end up coach like most of the time by myself.
And like, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to
be ungrateful. They pay for everything else, like when we're there,
like they hook us at you know, the hotel, the
dinners and all this nice stuff. But I just feel
so weird, and I'm like, do I say something? Do
I like ask my boyfriend to I don't know, maybe
(23:19):
come to coach with me or ask them to bump
me up with them. Like I'm just like, why is
this even a conversation? It feels so weird. I don't know,
I don't know what to do now.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
That is a slippery slope, you know, because you don't
want to look entitled. But then again, I think you
have a point. Why are you sitting back there all
by yourself? That's snowboino, So you think she should say
something to the boyfriend?
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Absolutely, see if they're paying for everything else, Mel, who
cares if you're sitting by yourself during a flight, it's
just a few hours.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
The rest of the trip is on their dime. Hello.
Speaker 9 (23:50):
Yeah, Like I'm not a gold digger or something, but
it's like you're paying for this stuff, Like maybe just
do that too, or can someone take turns like being
with me and coach?
Speaker 2 (23:59):
That's a fair It's clear you have some feelings, and
I know some people that might have some opinions they
might want to share with you, And if you don't mind,
we'll bring them into the conversation at eight sixty six
ninety two, seven forty three sixty one and maybe we
can help you through this.
Speaker 9 (24:13):
Yeah, yeah, let me know what to do.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Just hang out for a few minutes and maybe they
can help you make this decision.
Speaker 6 (24:19):
In the meantime, we got the news coming up.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Top stories at the top of the hour, Chilli, what
can we expect this morning.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
How far would you be willing to drive before you
would decide to fly somewhere instead. I'll be sharing the
results of a survey coming up in just a few
You know.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
There's a big kite festivout in Leesburg on Saturday, and
here's something that will make it sound even better as
you drive out.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Our best of the eighties and nineties weekend. It all
kicks off Friday at five pm and goes all through
the weekend.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
It's ninety seven point one wash FM till Tilly in
the Morning and then Riquet.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Ninety seven point one WASHFM, Washington heart radio stations coming
up on Top Stories Top of the Hour.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
The Treasury Department says that the national debt has topped
forty trillion dollars. We've got the latest on that story
and others on the way with Toby and Chilly in
the morning. A ninety seven point one wash FM.
Speaker 7 (25:20):
Top Stories Top of the Hour.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
The Treasury Department says the national debt has now topped
forty trillion dollars, arriving sooner than analysts expected, partly because
the courts struck down some of the President's tariffs, cutting
into revenue that the government had counted on. One person
has died and another badly hurt after a possible house
explosion in Annapolis yesterday. Fire officials say a two story
(25:45):
home partially collapse, and investigators are now looking into whether
a pro pane delivery that was made just before that
blast played a role. Congressional Democrats are launching an investigation
into ice enforcement in northern Virginia after an agent pointed
a gun at a Louden County woman during a traffic
stop in Bailey's Crossroads. Lawmakers want the agents involved pulled
(26:07):
from duty pending review. So more road closures are coming
ahead of this weekend's DC ind Car event. The Park Services,
the Arlington More Memorial Bridge, Memorial Circle, and Memorial Avenue
are going to be seeing intermit enclosures today between ten
am and noon, along with Lincoln Memorial Circle and the
(26:28):
ramp to Ohio Drive. And finally, Americans say they're willing
to drive nearly nine and a half hours before deciding
to fly to their destination instead, although that cut off
swings by more than six hours depending on which state
you live in. Airfare delays in traveling with kids or
pets makes driving more appealing, while gas prices and traffic
(26:52):
push people toward the airport for flying. Forecast for today
cloudy skies, We do you have a chance of some
severe storms this afternoon with highs in the upper eighties.
Right now seventy five into come apart, and that's.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
The news with Toby and Tilly in the Morning, gave
top stories at the top of the hour. If you're
sitting in traffic, or if you're sitting in the parking
garage at work, hang out in the car for a
few Why Mel hit us up a little bit ago.
She does not like the idea of having to sit
in coach while her boyfriend and the family upgrade their
flights to first class. Now is she right on this,
(27:30):
wrong about her feelings on this? What should she do?
You've got thoughts and we'll get to hear them in
a few helping you overcome issues when they come up
in your life. For Toby and Tilly in the Morning,
it's ninety seven point one watch FM and Mel had
a little bit of a problem with something.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
She lives in Fairfax and her boyfriend's family is paying
for this great trip and they do this every time,
treat her and the boyfriend. Problem is they upgrade their
seats using points to first class, while mal pays her
own way and sits in coach right.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
And the boyfriend, you would think, would you know, sacrifice
his seat in first to go be with his significant other,
But apparently that doesn't happen, and.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
She wants to know whether she should bring this up
to the boyfriend or is she crazy for thinking this
is an issue?
Speaker 6 (28:18):
Alicia and for Washington thoughts.
Speaker 10 (28:21):
That it's very telling, especially if they haven't been together
for years.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
This is a little foreshadowing.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
You mean like they'll continue to exclude her from.
Speaker 9 (28:31):
Some things, basically because if she's the only one they
everybody got upgraded except for her.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Yeah, I feel like.
Speaker 9 (28:39):
They're trying to send a message as well.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Well. It just stinks on a whole host of levels. Alicia,
thank you so much for calling us this morning. Thank you,
and now let's shoot over to Andy. Thanks for listening
in Stafford this morning.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
You've got a different approach to all this.
Speaker 10 (28:54):
My advice for her would be to when you get
to the kiosk to check in accidentally, this is their quote,
bump your ticket up to first class. It'll just charge
it to their card. Anyway, We're weare.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Will Well, that's very shady, but you should know she's
paying her own way, which is why she's sitting in
coach to begin with.
Speaker 10 (29:15):
Yeah, and they just played dumb dude.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
You realize you're proposing theft by credit card. That's not okay?
Speaker 10 (29:20):
We like Oh really, Oh I thought you guys got
me first class too. It's it's full proof.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
I would not say it's foolproof. I think it's foolish.
But thank you for your thoughts this morning.
Speaker 10 (29:32):
You got it, see Andy.
Speaker 6 (29:34):
Back to Mel, Mel, thanks for hanging on.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
It looks like well, one side of the equation says
this is a bad omen. The other side is proposing theft.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
Oh god, oh no, So what are you gonna do?
Speaker 10 (29:47):
I gotta address it.
Speaker 9 (29:48):
I'm gonna address it head on because if it is
a red flag I need to know now so I
don't bring myself along any anymore.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Well, good luck, Mel and best wishes as you fly
the friendly Skies.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
Thank you over two.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
