Chili out for the first day of school, Katie Harris,
It's good to see you again. How are things, ma'am?
Speaker 3 (00:20):

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Well, of course it's crash.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Actually, I think the thing that's got me feeling good
today is the fact that I had to have some
emergency dental work done. And you know, I live in
southern Maryland. I live two hours away and my dentist
is in Arlington, Virginia. So I had been just prolonging it,
just been putting it to the side. But when I
had that emergency thing, they took care of me. So
(00:54):
I got the follow up today. So I am grateful
for a good dentist that didn't charge me.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
In Armintal life.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
That is amazing. You find a good dentist, you keep
that dentist. I'm feeling great today because honestly, the roads
are all being reopened downtown. There's no more Indye cars
zooming around causing traffic issues on the weekend. Metro's not
ridiculous anymore so than usual just to go downtown. It
just it feels like we got our city back after
that whole race thing. Not knocking it, but I'm just like, ah,
(01:21):
thank you, that was nice time to go. You know.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Now everyone's driving like their IndyCar racers because well it's Monday,
yeah right, and the Beltway, by the way, is not
a racetrack, nor is to seventy or sixty six anyway,
it's ninety.

we want to talk about how you're doing it. So
your morning mindset, some words we think might help you
to take on this brand new day. Toby at Chili
in the morning on this Monday. It's ninety seven point

one wash CHEFM. Kat Harris is in for Chili amr KT.
You know what time it is.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
It is time to start our day with some positive vibes.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
It's Toby's morning mindset, and today it comes to us
from Alice Walker. The most common way people give up
their power is by thinking they don't have any Let
me say that again because I know you might have
just missed part of it sitting on two seventy or
maybe sixty six. The most common way people give up
their power is by thinking they don't have any. So
(04:55):
what is Alice Walker trying to say to us? Why
is this important today? Well, Mike my gut tell that
you may not control everything that happens around you. Well,
I don't know that too many of us do. But
if we find that one thing that we can change
that is ours to change, that is your power. And
remember it starts with one. Not to paraphrase Lincoln Park
(05:16):
or anything, but it does start with one. Alice Walker.
The most common way people give up their power is
by thinking they don't have any That is your morning
mindset needed again, You'll find it on Instagram, Facebook, or
you can just reach out to us on the Toby
and chilipage at washfm dot com. But you'd be happy
to send it your way if it spoke to you
and you know somebody who might need it, Like maybe
(05:36):
you just did and hang out for a few minutes.
Because KT and just a.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Bit we have to discuss some of the most bizarre
reason why people have broken up with somebody else.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
And oh my gosh, some of these are doozy.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Oh in g this list of reasons why people have
broken up with someone, it'll blow your mind. Toby and
Chilly in the morning. It's ninety seven point one wash
FM crash our producer is in the studio with us,
Kat Harris, who's playing the part of Chiliam R today.
Because this list, like you said a little bit ago,
is just o MG ridiculous. One of the bizarre reasons
(06:13):
that somebody gave for ending a relationship their feet looked weird.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
I mean, what did they have like a sixth toe?
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Oh KKT, you had to go there with the feet
talk sixth toe would probably be an acceptable reason for
a breakup. It would be so much maybe, But what
if you could save the guy with like a man pedicure?
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Would that cost extra? A good point?
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I guess it depends on the gnarliness of the feet.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
So what else is on this list?
Speaker 2 (06:38):
She dumped him because she did not like the way
he chewed gum.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
If you are with somebody in there chewing gum and
they're smacking all the time going, it's kind of disturbing.
But what really has me scratching my head on this
list of bizarre reasons for ending a relationship? Somebody actually
took their other person out on a first date to
play bingo.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Great, she just lost all of our listeners from leisure
World Now they love bingo over there. What's the most
ridiculous reason you've ever dumped somebody for their crash?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
I dumb somebody because she enjoyed the love Guru.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
So you seriously broke up with a girl because she
liked a movie?
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yes I did. That's a Mike Meyer's comedy. It's Mike
Meyer The Wayne's World. It was not Ferty on Crush
Party on tops.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
You know I gotta tell you that makes my my
reason for breaking up with somebody sound a lot less ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Well it wasn't. Now we need to know.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
I broke up with a guy a first date.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
I could not go on a second date with him
because of Cilantro. See he said he couldn't eat Cilantro
because it tasted like soap. I am a photie. Cilantro
is life, So no game.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Over party on Cilantro. Ha got the news Top Stories

Good Senator Chris van Holland have a twenty twenty eight
presidential bid. Appearing on Meet the Press, the Maryland Democrats
said that he's kicking the tires on a presidential run.
Van Holland added that he doesn't think the Democratic Party
has answered the call about how they'll make the economy
work for working people. Top Democrat in the House and
(09:15):
a top advisor for the Trump administration looking for common ground.
House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries met with President Trump's son
in law, Jared Kushner in Manhattan to look for possible
areas of cooperation.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Today's the day.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
More than fifty one thousand students are headed back to
the District of Columbia public schools. The district is continuing
to see academic gains, but challenges with attendance and student
proficiency remains. Two more animals have tested positive for rabies
in the DC area. The Charles County Department of Health
announced positive tests for a skunk and a bat on Friday.
(09:53):
Authorities are asking anyone who's encountered the rabid animals to
contact the Health Department. Maryland officials have been closely tracking
rabies cases this summer after several beavers attacked multiple people
in two state parks.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
According to a.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
New survey, thirty percent of drivers believe no one actually
drives a speed limit. Nearly half believe it's safer to
drive with the flow of traffic than to obey the
speed limit. Now, even though drivers seem to have relaxed
attitudes about speeding, eighty seven percent want more police patrolling
the areas with a history of speed related crashes, and
(10:31):
seventy percent support automatic speed cameras in those locations. Expect
an absolutely gorgeous day, sunshine, highth of eighty five right
now sixty nine and gate thear spr.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
And that is the news. Remember you get your top
stories at the top of the hour when you get
up with Toby and Chilly in the morning. It's ninety
seven point one Wash FM. Katie Harris in for Chiliamar today.
There is probably a lot of ugly crying going on
and parts of the DMV today definitely This week for
show is the kids go back to school, so gotta
(11:04):
know are you one of these people that gets very
emotional when these things happen. Back to school, off to kindergarten,
maybe middle school, like Chili's kid college, even let's talk
about eight sixty six, ninet two, seven forty three sixty one. Well,
it makes a lot of sense for us to be
talking about this today because there are so many people
(11:25):
headed back to school, and kids are hopping on school buses,
and if they're not already back in school, they will
be this week. Toby and Chilly in the morning at
ninety seven point one WASHFM, give us a call and
tell us about a time when you were guilty as
charged of doing some ugly crying. Kevin Hartz, the comedian,
and Tim McGraw both say that they've cried when they've
(11:48):
dropped off their kids at school. Did you ugly cry
when your kid went off to school there, Katie Harrison,
I did. I did.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
I will remember I remember everything. I remember his outfit,
his lunchboxes, backpack. I remember him standing at the bus
stop and me watching him get on the bus for
the first time. And then as soon as he was
on the bus, I went into my car and I
just cried, Oh.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
My baby's growing up.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
I ugly cried, like just nobody's ever ugly cried before.
When I was in Boston dropping Kyla off at college.
I can't figure out if I was crying because I
knew that at some point in time the college bills
would come due and I might have to pay for them,
or if I was just really proud of the fact
that she had made it to where she'd made it.
(12:33):
But something about leaving, I think I ugly cried and
was just very quiet for a good hour driving back
from a bust, and it was it was a thing,
you know.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
I think that it's only natural, and a lot of
parents go through that, And then, of course later on
in the year, a lot of parents go through the
fact that they start getting happy when the kids go
to school.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Right, that's very true. When summer's over, the parents stop
ugly crying and they're like, yes, But maybe you've gone
through a milestone. Maybe you've known somebody who's done some
ugly crying when they've dropped the kids off at school
or waited with them to get on the bus. What happened?
Tell us all about it? Eight six six, nineteen seven
forty three sixty one. Talking about ugly crying here at
(13:16):
ninety seven point one wash FM, Toby and Chilly in
the Morning at eight sixty six nine two seven forty
three sixty one. This week, if you ugly cry while
you're dropping the kids off at the school or waiting
at the bus stop, it's kind of allowed.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
It's okay you can cry. This is an emotional time.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
And what was another emotional moment for you? Uh?
Speaker 3 (13:35):
The first time I dropped my son off for middle school,
I didn't really ugly cry because I was.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
Like, oh, my baby's cruden.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
There are so many occasions which as a parent only
you understand when it comes to your little one walking
into school or as you pull away driving away from
school after you drop them off at College Jason and
Tacoma Park. You have a story about somebody who ugly cried?
What's up?
Speaker 6 (14:00):
I had a friend and even more surprising because he's
like one of my most sort of like macho friends,
you know, never cries, never shows any feelings about anything
pretty much. But he was telling us all that he
had his twin five year old boys and he dropped
him off for school one day, and he's watched him
walk in from his car and one of the boys
reached out his hand and took his brother's hand, and
(14:21):
as you know, they walked into school hand in hand.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Well, that's got to tell you the heart strings a bit.
Speaker 6 (14:26):
He's like, guys, I watched that. I just like totally
burst into tears in my car.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
I wonder what the ugly cry sounds like?
Speaker 6 (14:34):
Oh my gosh, because he's just like sort of got
like a crazy deep voice. You know, Oh, I can
believe this, you know, something like that.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Yeah, that's so ugly crying. I feel bad about making
fun of him there, Jason, thanks for jumping in. Aaron,
good morning, and thank you for listening in Fairfax.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
When my daughter went to kindergarten, I.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Was a mass. I was an ass and you guys
are in loud in county. Yeah, like she, I started
fourth grade and I went home.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
I waited to cheer up, and I went home cheered
up a little bit, and then got busy.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
With the chores and stuff, trying to keep your mind
off things. Aaron, I see how that goes.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
I get it. Now, what does that ugly cry sound like? Wow?
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Is that really how we sound when we ugly cry?
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Now?
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Wow? Aaron, thank you. Eight six six nine two, seven
forty three sixty one is the number if you want
to call an ugly cry for us, we're listening, or
you can just bypass all of that. Tap the talk
back microphone. If you're listening on your irt app, tap it.

Trade talks between the US and Canada broke down on Friday,
leading President Donald Trump's fifty percent tariffs on certain Canadian
goods to go into effect. The tariffs effect about twenty
billion dollars worth of US imports from Canada, with everything
from hockey sticks to building materials, liquors, and certain kinds
of clothing being impacted. Hasmanority leader Hakim Jeffries recently met

privately with Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son in law
and informal advisor. The private meeting was recently held in
New York City and the pair discuss housing, immigration, and
the high cost of living. The quality of water in
the Antacostia River is showing improvement. Anacostia Watershed Society has
been issuing a state of the River report card since
twenty fourteen. The first report gave the river a failing grade,

but this year's shows a quality grade of C minus.
It's the best grade in the report's history. Official say
the river could become healthy enough to swim in if
improvements continue over the next few years. Goats will be
used to clear invasive plants from an Alexandria park next month.
Three dozen of the animals will be brought to the

All Veterans Park beginning in September. City officials say the
terrain is unsafe for landscaping crews and the goats can
manage the terrain better. The temporary electric fence will be
used to keep the goats together, and I think that's
not a bad idea. The PlayStation is going to be
released next year.

The company has revealed that they cannot give the exact

your Monday. And it's a simple story, a story about
fresh food, free food and food that goes straight to
(21:53):
families who need it. Time out for a story that
we think might just make your Monday. Ninety seven one
Wash FM Toby and Chilly in the Morning. It's Kat
Harrison for Chilia mar Today and this story is simple,
fresh food, free and going straight to the families who
(22:13):
need it.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Prince George's County has brought back its free fresh food program. Basically,
they're helping people get that fresh produce to groceries without
adding that one more thing to an already stretched out budget.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
And that really matters, because when money is tight, fresh
food is one of the first things that gets harder
to justify, and sometimes families just go without exactly.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Now, basically, what this is doing, it's making those things stretch,
you know, the fruit, the vegetables that's fresh, the stuff
that you actually want your family to eat.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Bottom line, it's not easy.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
So this program is back and it puts good food
directly into the hands of the people around Prince George's
County who need it the most.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Now, what I love about it, it's not overthinking it,
it's not a big speech. It's just basically neighbors making
sure neighbors have something fresh to put on their table.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
And you gotta love that.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
You know, sometimes feeling good on a Monday is knowing
that somebody's grocery bill just got a little bit lighter.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
In their kitchen just got a little fuller, and that
should make your Monday. And if you want to read
more about this, you can. We've got this story for
you on the Toby and chilipage at washcheffem dot com.
And if you've got a story you think might just
make somebody's Monday, tell us all about it. We of
course would love to shine that light of good on

to your community. Again, you can reach us the Toby

Speaker 3 (24:50):
President Trump is taking a swipe at Canada as trade
tensions between the two countries continue to escalate. In a
post on truth at Social Sunday, the President claimed ca
Canada wants the benefits of being a US state without
actually becoming one. He also accused Canada of imposing steep
tariffs on American farmers for years. Thousands of residents in Reno, Nevada,
(25:11):
are under evacuation orders as firefighters battle a fast moving
wildfire that's threatening the northern edge of the city. The
hawks fire has scored roughly about fifteen thousand acres since Saturday,
and as of last night, the wildfire remained zero percent contained.
Kyle Kirkwood may have secured a unique place in Indiecar history.
(25:35):
Kirkworer dominated the Indiacar Street Race in DC yesterday.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
While city leaders hope that racing could.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Return to the nation's capital, IndyCar President Doug Bowle says
the event likely will be a one time showcase. Health
of visuals are warning residents in the DC region after
two more animals tested positive for rabies. The Charles County
Department of Health confirmed that on Friday, a skunk and
a bat were in fact did Anyone who may have
come in contact with either animal is urged to reach
(26:05):
out to local authorities, and finally, it looks like the
search for treasure isn't over yet. More than two decades later,
National Treasure debuted in theaters. Director John Turtletab says that
the third.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Installment is officially in development.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Nicholas Cage is expected to reprise his role as the
adventurer Benjamin Franklin Gates, giving fans another treasure hunting adventure
is finally on the horizon. Yet no release date has
happened yet. Expect sunshine with a high of eighty five
going to be absolutely gorgeous today currently seventy one in
lake Ridge.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
All right, we got to settle something this morning. What
is the strangest thing you've ever seen? Somebody put on
a waffle? Now that you've got the news top stories
at the top of the hour, stay there because apparently
syrup and butter are just no longer enough. What have
you seen on a waffle? What was it that made
(27:02):
you go? I thought that the waffle had suffered long enough.
We're gonna talk about it. Eight six, six ninety two
seven forty three sixty one join us as we ease
back into life and the routine on this Monday morning
here at ninety seven point one Wash FM, we're Toby
at Chilly in the morning. We would be remiss to
(27:24):
not point out the fact that today is National Waffle
Day and KT you pointed this out first thing this morning.
What is the strangest thing that you've ever put on
a waffle? Either you've put it on a waffle or
you've seen it put on a waffle.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Now I personally have Okay, Now, first off, I'm gonna
say after Thanksgiving, I love taking leftover stuffing, putting it
in the waffle iron, making stuffing waffles, and topping that
sucker off with turkey and gravy and cranberry sauce.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Do not judge. It is amazing.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
However, the craziest thing I've seen I saw a girlfriend
of mine take kimshi and put it inside the waffle
batter and make kimchi waffles with.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Eggs on top. Oh lord, it actually sounded really good. Yeah,
you're like, that's what.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
About kimchi in the batter and eggs? No, that's cine,
you know, I guess I I guess I'm pretty much
a traditionalist when it comes to waffles. Like maybe I'll
put you know, chocolate chips in them. Maybe I'll smash
an oreo and put that in the batter. But I
don't really go too far out there, if you know
(28:42):
what I mean. Like, there are people I'm reading about
who have put chili all over a waffle to turn
it into kind of like an edible bowl. There are
people who do sushi style toppings like smoked salmon, avocado, cucumber,
and spicy mayo. I'm like, no nacho toppings, taco case
so jalepenos in sour cream. I shouldn't knock it till
(29:03):
I try it. But no, and a cheeseburger with two
waffles replacing the bun, Okay, maybe I could maybe go
for that. That's just very odd to me.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
Not jo waffles is not your favorite.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
No no, no, no no no. But if there's some
sort of a topping you put on a waffle, one
that might make people go hmmm, feel free to call
us and tell us all about eight sixty six nine
two seven forty three sixty one, or tap the talkback
microphone if you're signed in listening to us right now
on your iHeart Apple, soybe at Tilly in the morning.
It's ninety seven point one wash FM. On this first
(29:39):
day of school for people in Fairfax and Prince George's
and Montgomery all go tomorrow. What's a sign, Kat Harris
that the routine has returned as it were? When it
comes to going back to school?
Speaker 3 (29:51):
Biggest sign is the night before. The night before, you
got to make sure everything's lined up. You got the breakfast,
you make sure the homework and the back is in
the certain spot that you picked out the clothes.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
That is very important.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
So the night before, a little prep goes a long way, people.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
And that explains why I was not, as a parent
very good when it came to back to.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
School time and sometimes back to work too.

take on this brand new day, in this brand new week.
From Alice Walker, the most common way people give up
their power is by thinking they don't have any. So
find that power and use it responsibly.
