Speaker 1 (00:00):
Toby and Chilly Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point one.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Masha that, well, welcome back after the first day of
school there at Tilliamar. How did everything go yesterday? Are
you feeling good this morning? At ninety seven point one
watched up them because there were no meltdowns, no drama,
no issues.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
I'll get more into it later on in the show,
but yes, I'm feeling good because the kids are back
in school in Fairfax County yesterday today though Montgomery and
Prince George's County kids headbacks. That's right, I'm feeling it.
I'm with you, and for those parents who are starting kindergarten,
I know it's a different kind of emotional day for you.
I remember that moment very well. And those who are,

(00:38):
you know, starting their senior year of high school this
is this is also emotional for you.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
This well at the end, y'all, I remember it well,
and it doesn't get any easier, trust me. And then
it just gets more expensive when they go to college.
But you know what, hey, one step at a time,
baby steps. There by day, baby steps.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Good luck to all of the teachers and students and
parents in the DMV as we start a new school year.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Praying for you. I'm very very happy today, and I'm
feeling good because with the kids at school, that means
I could go to the pool today and not feel
so self conscious about things. So I'm hoping that I
have an empty pool waiting for me after I get
home later on this Tuesday. It's little things like that,
and i haven't really gotten any pool time in so

(01:25):
I'm wondering how that's gonna work with my knee. Okay,
probably all good. It's ninety seven point one wash CHEFM
on a Tuesday morning hang out for the news. Top
stories at the top of the hour coming up, Chilli,
what's good?

Speaker 3 (01:38):
So the Freedom two point fifty race is over, but
apparently the headaches for drivers aren't. I'll explain. Coming up
in just a few top stories top of the hour,
the White House has unveiled Operation Economic Outcasts. It's a
plan to cut Iran off from oil experts and other trade.

(01:59):
Treasure Tree Secretary Scott Bessett says the President is personally
calling world leaders warning them to end their dealings with Iran. Meanwhile,
the President is slapping a fifty percent tariff on Canadian cars, trucks,
and autoparts after trade talks broke down. Meanwhile, Canada has
vowed to match any tariff's dollar for dollar. Investigators say

(02:22):
a deadly Annapolis home explosion was the result of the
homeowner accidentally cutting a propane line while working on his
HVAC system and then unknowingly igniting the leaked gas with
a metal grinder. That blast killed a seventy six year
old woman and left the homeowner in serious condition. DC police.
A fifteen year old girl who fell from the Key

(02:44):
Bridge into the Potomac River last weekend has died. Serene
Tayara was sitting on the ledge overlooking the river Saturday
when she felt She was pulled from the water and
rushed to the hospital, but did not survive. So the
Freedom two fifty race is over, but the headaches for
drivers aren't, because crews are still tearing down fencing, barriers

(03:04):
and grandstands around the National Mall. Several major streets, including
Constitution in Pennsylvania, Avenues will stay fully closed to public
traffic through September third, and according to a recent survey,
forty two percent of travelers say that flight passenger behavior
has gotten worse over the past five years, with noise

(03:25):
like loud talking music without headphones the top complaint at
twenty seven percent. Forecast for today, it's going to be lovely,
lots of sunshine with highs around eighty two right now
sixty two in Woodbridge.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
There are so many places that get you the news,
but there's really just one place you need to trust
for the news that really matters, and that would be
right here with Toby and Chilly in the morning and
top stories at the top of the hour ninety seven
point one Wash FM. As you make your way in
on sixty six, maybe ninety five North could be on
three ninety five this morning, or you're just sitting in
the drive through coffee line. Thank you for having his son,

(04:04):
and know that in just minutes we're going to take
some time to focus on you with your morning mindset
for this Tuesday. You might want to hear what this
person has to say to you that we found that
back to school rush's no doubt causing some issues in
Montgomery County. And yeah, you're making lunch right now in
Northern Virginia somewhere, and you probably need to hear your

(04:26):
morning mindset today. On ninety seven point one WASHEFM with
Toby and Chilly in the morning. If you're just finding
us for the first time, what is our morning mindset?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
We find a quote and share it with all of
you to think about as you take on the rest
of your day, maybe to motivate you or even to
inspire you.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
It will fit in your life. Trust me, it's from
Princess Diana. Your morning mindset today says, I don't go
by the rule book. I lead from the heart, not
the head. It's Princess Diana. Let me say that again,
because I think it's it's a residant this morning. I
don't go by the rule book. I lead from the heart,
not the head. See, not every important decision fits neatly

(05:04):
into some sort of spreadsheet, nor can you plan it.
You know, life just happens sometimes. Your values, stuff that
makes your heart beat right already knows the answer. So
listen to it today and see how easy anything you
have to accomplish today can really become when you listen
to your heart, not your head, and you strategically toss

(05:28):
the rule book. I'm not saying to go rogue, but
if you lead from the heart, not the head, and
you don't go by the rule book, I think Princess
Diane is right, and I think you'll be surprised at
how things go for you. Keep that in mind as
you get into this brand new day. If you need
it again, find it on Instagram, Facebook, or you can
reach out to us Chillipage at Washington dot com. We'll

(05:50):
be happy to send it your way. In the meantime,
hang out for a few We.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Have got some calls from people who want to tell
us why they're feeling good today. We always share our reasons,
and now it's your turn.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
If you're crossing the Potomac this morning, bless your heart.
You need the joy that comes when what it is
that makes people feel good becomes contagious. It's ninety seven
point one Watcheff, then Telby and Chilly in the morning.
So let's talk about some things that are making you
feel good right now.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
At the beginning of the show, every single morning, Toby
and I share a quick reason why we're feeling good.
We always trying to find some sort of silver lining
in our day, and we love it when you participate
in the conversation, like Peter in Ashbourne this morning, Go ahead,
why are you smiling? Oh my gosh, you know what's
making me happy today?

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Guys, got a brand new car, so excited. I bet
you traded in your hooptie.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Yeah, what's the new whip?

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Got myself a new Mustang, So looking forward to taking
that baby out and getting around the road.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
It's going to be great. You know.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
Love the cruise for sure.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I think we both hope here in our studio that
you get the chance to cruise if your morning involves
four ninety five to seventy sixty six or all of
the above.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
And just make sure you don't go too fast because
that Mustang will draw some attention.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
That's right. And I'm not going to say anything about
radar detectors because that just wouldn't be very good citizen
of me. Drive safely and thank you there, Peter and Ashburn.
All right, Christa is hanging on in Potomac this morning. Hey,
how are you and what are you happy about this morning?

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Okay, I'm obsessed with this grape drink recently.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Alrighty, and it's.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
A small win.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
But I actually wrote the company and they're sending me
like a free crate of it.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Wow, just because you wrote.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
In one letter, I am so excited. I would be
tool because to have a crate of your favorite grape drink.
That's just I mean, that's nirvana heaven and all you
had to do is like fire off an email or
shoot a quick note and I'm inspired. If you'll excuse me,
I'm going to go write my favorite coffee company now
and see if I can have some of your luck.

(07:59):
Rubbuff on meet. We're Toby and Chilly in the morning.
It's ninety seven point one wash CHEFMNT eight sixty six
ninety two seven forty three sixty one.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
You can always continue this conversation if you'd like, but.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
We get the news on the way top stories at
the top of the hour. What are you working on
this morning?

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Burned out from swiping singles? Are heading to real life
events instead? Coming up in just a few minutes, I'm
going to share some of the most popular meet cute experiences.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Kimberly, thanks for calling ninety seven point one WASHCHEFM. We're
Toby and Chilly in the morning. I understand you're in
friendship heights and you wanted to share why you're feeling
good this morning. Fire Away.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
I'm so excited and looking forward to a road trip
with my childhood best.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Friend where are you guys headed?

Speaker 5 (08:41):
We found this museum. It's called the Cheese Cave.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Oh, you must be talking about the one up in Queens,
New York.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Can you bring some caso back for some people please?
It's ninety seven point one wash FM Hate Travels Safely Okay?

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Ninety seven point one WASHFM, Washington, an iHeartRadio station, coming
up on Top Stories, Top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
The Supreme Court is letting most of the President's mail
in voting order move forward. We've got the latest on
that story and others on the way with Toby and
Chili in the morning. Ninety seven point one wash FM.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
The Supreme Court is letting most of the President's mail
in voting order move forward, but the key piece giving
the postal service oversight of ballot standards stays blocked for now.
The order also directs agencies to compile lists of confirmed
eligible voters.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Well.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
The US and Canada are now in a full trade war.
The President says auto tariffs jump to fifty percent on
January first, after talks broke down and Canada's come back,
saying that tariffs on US goods will start September eighth.
A four year old boy has died just days after
nearly drowning in a fog Year County pond. He was

(10:01):
pulled from the water in the plains last week and
placed on life support, but didn't survive passing away on Sunday.
The Department of Homeland Security says that more than thirteen
hundred undocumented immigrants were arrested in Maryland and Virginia during
a two week operation earlier this month. Officials say that
nearly four hundred of those arrested have criminal charges or convictions.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Well.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Even with Sunday's Freedom two fifty race over Downtown DC,
road closures and no parking zones are going to be lingering.
Some streets near the Mall's going to stays closed through
September third, and no parking signs on a couple of
blocks will remain until about September fifteenth. And burned out
from swiping, it looks like singles are heading to real

(10:46):
life events instead to meet people. A new survey finds
that meet cute experiences are up one hundred and seventeen
percent so far this year. So Trivia Knights lead the
surge at four hundred and three percent, followed by Majong
events up two hundred and thirty five percent, and even
bird watching meetups are up one hundred and thirty one

(11:08):
percent Forcastboard today. Lots of sunshine out there to watch birds.
Highs around eighty two right now sixty three in Rockville.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Now that you've got your news fixed with Toby and
Chilly's top stories top the hours, stay right there, because
here at ninety seven point one WASHCHEFM came across something
you might find important if you're flying out of Reagan,
maybe Dulles or even b WI, something called the flat
tire rule. Have you heard about? This could come in
handy before your next flights. You are now free to

(11:39):
move about the country via BWI, Dulles or Reagan National.
You're gonna want to hear about this rule. Though ninety
seven point one was CHEFM or Toby and Chilly in
the morning. Some people say it's urban legend, others swear
by it. It's called the flat tire rule.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Well, apparently, it's this unofficial policy that most major US
airlines they used to help passengers who miss a flight
for reasons that are beyond their control, like a traffic accident,
a flat tire. That sort of thing. So, according to
this article, if you show up within two hours of
missing your flight and explain what happened, like a flat
tire or accident, an agent may rebook you for free

(12:18):
on the next available flight.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Which would be incredible because you know what, Sometimes things happen,
and that stress when things happen can be very overwhelming.
On top of this stress and anxiety it comes from flying.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
I would not risk getting away with this flat tire
rule and roll the dice because if it's an over
book flight for the next however many flights, you're not
getting on anything. True, So I think it really depends
on the agent you come across that day. I think
it depends on how over booked they might be. So

(12:53):
why don't you do what you should do to begin
with and plan for a flat tire anyway.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Before you leave the house.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
That's right, you know, give yourself plenty of time for some.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Fender bender because you never know, So leave three to
four hours earlier than the flight time and enjoy the
concessions and the different dining options available at any one
of our fine Nations Capital Region airports.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Why don't you think that these agents have heard every
excuse in the book.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Yeah, and now they're going to probably end up hearing
some more of them today because we're talking about it.
So don't abuse it. If this is a true thing,
don't ruin it for everyone else. Yeah, karma is a thing, people,
you're just screwing over somebody who really had a blowout
on the George Washington Memorial Park where they're just trying
to get to Reagan. Just please don't and thank you
for your attention to this matter. It's ninety seven point

(13:40):
one wash FM. If you want to learn more about it,
you can Toby and chillipage at washfm dot com hang
out because we got even more for you to consider
this morning.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Let's talk about Meta slash Facebook. Right now, they're being
sued because of the negative impact it has on kids'
mental health. Now, if Meta ends up losing this lawsuit,
major changes could be coming our way.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Before the DMV shifted into this back to school mode
during the summer months, while you were enjoying the pool
maybe vacation road trips, Meta has been in a courtroom
where Toby and Tilly in the morning. It's ninety seven
point one wash FM. That's right, Meta, the company behind
Facebook and Instagram. Why because they get and sued big time.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Yeah, they're being sued by twenty nine states for one
point four trillion dollars. Those states are alleging that the
way Facebook and Instagram are operated are really dangerous to
children's mental health. But apparently this is not just about money,
because if Mark Zuckerberg and Meta lose, things could look
a lot different on social media. And we came across

(14:45):
an article that kind of spelled out what could change
if they lose.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Will we be seeing the end of the like button?
Maybe infinite scroll could go bye bye, and which means
your dooms rolling will be now limited. For anybody who's
ever gone down some sort of a rabbit hole on
Instagram or whatever, you understand what the death of that
infinite scroll would mean.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Yeah, they would also get rid of the AutoPlay and
also no more algorithmic manipulation, so that means it would
go back to the old ways where you would see
on your feed things that are happening in chronological order.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
I like that, and I like the fact that they're
going to curb frequent notifications too, because those notifications they
stimulate parts of the brain that need instant gratification and
that equals bad.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
And here's good news for parents. It would be the
death of what's called finsta. It's essentially a burner account
that's away from the parent's eyes.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Right.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
The states are pushing for stricter parental verification and limits
on multiple account creations. So these kids were getting all
sneaky sneaky, but these Finsta accounts hopefully won't be able
to do that anymore.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Now here's the thing. Meta has deep pockets. Meta could
win this entire lawsuit. They could get it just tossed out, right,
So it's really up in the air, and it's not
going to be solved in twenty four to forty eight hours.
In fact, I guess they're saying that this could go
on for months, right, Yeah, first.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Several more weeks, and we're going to find out at
the end how it all works out. But this is
going to be setting some sort of precedent. And as
a parent, even as an adult who has social media,
I'm a fan of all these potential changes.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Didoh I specifically like anything that stops you from being manipulated.
If you want to go deeper, you can. We've got
you covered on the Tobya Chilipage at washchefm dot com.
All right, there's a lot of stuff happening in the
news this morning. Chili. What's coming up with top Stories
at the top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
A lot of us like to take a screenshot to
help us remember something, but new research suggests that it
could actually be working against you. I'll explain coming up
in just a few I know.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
In Vienna right now, you're looking at your closet and
you're like, I don't have anything to wear. But it's okay.
Here at ninety seven point one WASHFM with Tobya Chilli
in the morning, we want to remind you that you've
got time to find something to wear. If you want
to see Chris Brown and Usher in Baltimore M and
T Bank Stadium, we've.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Got your chance coming up with our nearly impossible question
right around seven to ten after Toby and Chili's Top Stories.
You get the question right, you win.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Ninety seven point one WASHFM.

Speaker 5 (17:11):
Washington, an iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories top of.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
The hour, the White House is unveiling what he calls
Economic d Day for Iran. We've got the latest on
that story and others on the Way with Toby and
Chilly in the morning on ninety seven point one wash fl.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
Top Stories Top of the Hour.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
The President says tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, and auto
parts will jump to fifty percent starting January first, after
trade talks collapsed. Canada is firing back with its own
retaliatory tariffs starting September eighth. Meanwhile, the White House has
unveiled what it calls Economic d Day for Iran. Treasury
Secretary Scott Besson says the new sanctions campaign aims to

(17:57):
cut Iran off from oil experts and further isolate it
from world trade. Investigators say a deadly Annapolis home explosion
was the result of the homeowner accidentally cutting a propane
line while working on his HVAC system and then unknowingly
igniting the leaked gas with a metal grinder, and that
blast killed a seventy six year old woman and left

(18:19):
the homeowner in serious condition. Maryland health officials are declaring
a measle's outbreak in three counties, Saint Mary's, Carol and
Cecil after fourteen new confirmed cases in unvaccinated residents. Doctor
say the virus is highly contagious and urged parents to
get their kids vaccinated while the school year starts. Amtrak

(18:41):
says a nine day shutdown of DC's First Street Tunnel
this October is going to mean significant delays and even
cancelations for trains that are heading south. The work runs
October sixteenth through the twenty sixth, replacing worn track switches
with buses that are going to be filling the gap.
And screenshot an image might feel like insurance for your memory,

(19:03):
but researchers found that people who screenshot at images rather
than just looking at them, remember noticeably less, suggesting that
the act itself tells the brain to stop processing. Forecast
for today, We're gonna have a beautiful day with lots
of sunshine. Highs around eighty two. Right now sixty three
in Chantilly, Toby.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
And Chilly's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
My guess is trampoline.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
You're so dangerous?

Speaker 3 (20:55):

many emergency room injuries, especially with kids, because of the trampolines.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Yes, totally, believe that.

Speaker 3 (21:05):

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Yesterday was the first day of school for my son
who's entering middle school today. So many other counties like
Prince George's and Montgomery County go back. So what advice
would you give to someone going back to school?

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Call now at eight six, six nine two seven forty
three sixty one because we talk in this morning. Buzz
picked up the kids in Fairfax, Vienna, Reston and Burke
yesterday today and Bethesda, Silver Spring, Rockville, Bouie, Laurel, Moco
and Prince George's County schools are going back and you
might need a little bit of advice. Well, Chili, you

(22:29):
went through the whole back to school routine yesterday to
ninety seven point one Wash FM with Toby and Chilly
in the morning. Got anything to share.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Well, it was his first day of middle school. My
son is twelve and he started seventh grade, and he
was a bit anxious about going to a new school
and starting over with the friendship stuff. But also there's
going to be more academic demand from him this year.
And by the way, he's got a wake up two
hours earlier than he did for elementary school, so there's
a lot of changes coming to him at once. And

(22:58):
as a kid who's on the autism spec who has ADHD,
it's just one challenge after the other. But his biggest goal,
or his biggest hope for this year is truly to
make a friend or friends. I said to him, listen, buddy.
My one bit of advice to you, not just for
this year, but in life in general. Is not to
change who you are, to be desperate to fit in

(23:18):
and find the right person, because the right person or
people will find you and appreciate you just the way
you are. Yeah, and that's easier said than done.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
I know, very It's one of the reasons why I'm
glad my daughter survived at all. And she's out on
her own now, and she did the college thing, and
I remember her first day in middle school. Here you
have all of these things you wish you could do
to take care of your kid, but you can only
do so much. The rest is on them, and that
really starts to present itself in middle school. I think.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Yeah, I've heard from my friends who are ahead of
me in this game that the next couple years are
going to be quite a dramatic because the hormones and.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Such, they get very interesting. This is where you see
there the rise of clicks, and you see the rise
of like you said, hormones and buckle up. Got advice
to share with the class. How did you handle yesterday?
If you live in Northern Virginia or maybe you went
back to school last week, we'd love to hear from
you maybe if you've got the kids who are off
to Montgomery County or Prince George's County right now, got

(24:19):
some thoughts you want to throw our way feel free.
Eight sixty six nineteen seven forty three sixty one is
the number talkbacks wide open. So if you're listening on
our iHeart app, let's survive back to school together with
advice that you would have to give to anyone who's
