Speaker 1 (00:00):
Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Mosh FM.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
A special good morning to the city of Arlington and
kids who are going back to school for the first
day today. Proud of you. You got an extra week
on the rest of the DMV, but now summer is
officially deleted. It's 97.1 Wash FM, but that's good news
because there's always another summer ahead to look forward to
and a holiday weekend to look forward to as well.

(00:25):
We're Toby and Chili in the morning, 866-927-4361. On this Monday,
why are you feeling good.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Today, Chili? Well, I realized shortly after I got to
work that I forgot to put on deodorant. And I'm thinking,
I did not want to start a work week like this. However,
you know, the lockers that we have here to store things.
Many years ago, I'm talking, yes, years ago.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Oh, Lord.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
I brought in a deodorant stick for emergencies.

Speaker 5 (00:51):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Lo and behold, I took advantage and I'm thanking my
past self. Chili, you were so smart to do that
because I am not stinking up this joint.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Question. Does deodorant ever expire?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Not really.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
I know it gets old.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
I promise you it's working fine right now.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
For guys, if you're using the stick, it dries out sometimes.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
If you don't use it.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
No, no, no, no, no. It's still good.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
It's still good. But yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
That's it. For me, if the stick gets dry because
I haven't used it, like that normally happens if I'd
been like, oh, let me use this spray deodorant. I
like to spray deodorant. Then you run out of the
spray deodorant and you go back to the other one
and it's like, okay, I'm a little off. but okay.
At least I'm not funky. You know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
I'm feeling great today because it was a weekend of productivity.
My significant other comes back from her week away down
in Norfolk. And I look forward to seeing her at
some point in time this week, but nonetheless, in order
to prepare for that, I took care of life, things
cleaned up, uh, mopped, you know, domestic Toby. I wish I,

(01:58):
I wish it was sexier, but you know, Hey, That
was my 20s and 30s. Anyway, good morning. How are
you today? You feeling good? Tell us why you've got
some joy and let's spread it because it's contagious and
we need it on a Monday morning. It's 97.1 Watch
FM Top Stories at the top of the hour. On
the way in a few, what's going on this morning?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Snoop Dogg's ice cream brand is hiring a full-time taste

on the way.

being handled through the hiring platform deal. Forecast today, partly
sunny skies, highs getting up to 90 with a heat
index close to 100. Right now, 72 in Silver Spring.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Oh, the hustle and bustle of a Monday morning, but
at least you got the news. Top stories at the
top of the hour here at 97.1 Wash FM. In Rockville,
as you look for the shoes, you get the lunch packed,
and more, you might be feeling a bit of stress.
You might be going, God, I wish it was like
three weeks ago. We were still in summer. Maybe you
were on vacation. I know. Let that go for a minute.
And if you're having trouble doing so, your morning mindset

(04:40):
might be able to help. Stay there and we'll be
inspired together. Playing Washington's Variety from the 80s, 90s and
today for you as you get a new week started
on this August 31st. It's 97.1. Watch FM with Toby
and Chilling in the Morning. And it's time for us
to talk about you and how you're doing with your
morning mindset today.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
We know that Mondays can be tough, so we try
to find a quote and share it with you to
maybe motivate you as you get through the rest of
the day.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Emily Dickinson says this morning, forever is composed of nows.
Emily Dickinson, forever is composed of nows. See, this is
important because we spend so much time in life waiting
for a better time to do something. Oh, it'll be
better after the deadline. Once the kids are off to school,
everything will calm down. I'll lose the weight and then

(05:29):
I'll deal with it. And then things calm down, maybe.
I think Emily Dickinson's point is that right now, this
is the time. Life's not waiting somewhere in the future.
It's happening every day, every moment, including on this ordinary
Monday you're living through right now. So keep that in mind.
Forever is composed of nows. Got it?

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Good.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Let that sink in. Marinate a bit. It's 97.1. Watch FM.
That's your morning mindset. Find it again on Insta, Facebook,
all the fabulous places that you socially interact with people.
And you can share it with somebody who might need it.
Or you can send us one of your own if
you want. I can't speak on this Monday because it's Monday.
Toby and Chili page, watchfm.com. Now, in a few minutes.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
I had a little nostalgic experience over the weekend. Remember
when you would have cereal and the leftover milk tasted
so good?

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Let's talk about the best leftover cereal milk. What would
that be for you? 866-927-4361. We can't wait to hear.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
And if you excuse me, I'm going to go and
slurp down some milk with this cereal now. Do you
have breakfast yet? Well, if you haven't, maybe this will
apply to you when you get to work and you
pour yourself some cereal and you grab the milk and
you finish it off. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Have you
ever heard of cereal milk?

Speaker 5 (06:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
So my son, who's 12, was having his Honey Nut
Cheerios over the weekend, Toby. And I used to love
slurping that leftover milk because it had the flavor of
the cereal.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Donato does not like it.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
So I ended up drinking his cereal milk and I'm thinking,
this takes me back.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
What's wrong with your son?

Speaker 1 (07:11):
I know, right?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
He's missing out. That is the best thing. That's why
if you look in that drawer over there, you see
the cereal I have over there and I'm out of milk.
One of the great joys of life is slurping the
cereal milk. Once you've finished all the big parts of
the cereal and you drink it down, it tastes flavorful.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Which one? Which one do you bring?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Fruit Loops.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Oh, yeah. And it even changes the color of the cereal.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
I don't know if that's okay or not.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Well, I know. It's not so great, but yeah. I
always loved the Captain Crunch Berry. Oh, yeah. Leftover.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Or Golden Graham.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Oh, Lord.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
What about Cocoa Krispies?

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Well, the Cocoa Puffs.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
Those two.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Because that turns the chocolate into chocolate, though.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
That's right. Ha ha. 866-927-4361. So cereal milk. Jeremy, have
you enjoyed some? What cereal makes the best in your opinion?
The honey bunches of oats with strawberries.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Almost sounds too healthy, but OK.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
I don't know if the strawberry does what the chocolate does.
That could be a good move to get some strawberry milk.
Thank you this morning, Jeremy. Have a great day in Vienna.
In Bethesda, Erica, cereal milk. the cereal that you think
makes the best.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
I eat boring cereal.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
I don't like sweet cereal anymore.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Give me the bran flakes and give me the Cheerios.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
I know I've hit adulthood when I want the boring cereal.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Well, I'm not going to knock what you like there, Erica, but.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Yeah, boring cereal equals boring tasting milk. Right.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Maybe you've got a fave. What is it? Talkback's wide
open for you. If you're listening on your iHeart app
right now, tap speak, send, and tell us because we
love to hear from you. It is 97.1 Wash FM
Hangout because right around 610, you'll get the news, top
stories at the top of the hour. Chili, what's going on?

Speaker 3 (08:59):
AAA says Labor Day travelers should brace themselves for higher costs.
I've got more on that in just a few.

Speaker 2 (09:07):

the Jonas Brothers, you heard, right? Oh, you didn't? Well,
now you know. And we can get you into the

97.1 WASH FM, Washington. an iHeartRadio station. Coming up on
Top Stories, top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Iran and the US traded attacks yesterday at the US
military struck Iranian rocket launchers. We've got the latest on
that story and others on the way with Toby and
Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Top Stories, top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Iran has struck back at US forces in the Middle
East firing missiles into Jordan that were intercepted with no
reported damage. It was retaliation after American forces hit Iran's
Larak Island, where CENTCOM says Iranian units were getting ready
to mine and rocket the Strait of Hormuz. Two people
are dead after a wrong-way crash on 270 South near

(10:19):
Democracy Boulevard Saturday night when a Ford Mustang slammed head-on
into a Toyota Camry. The driver, 32-year-old Jose Nolasco, faces
manslaughter and DUI homicide charges. Prince George's County Public Schools
is shaking up its transportation department after a rough start
to the school year left thousands of students without bus assignments.

(10:42):
Director Kiba Baldwin is stepping down, and Mark Fawcett's going
to be taking over as acting director to lead the transition.
Maryland regulators approved a nearly $ 51 million Pepco rate hike.
That is less than half of what the utility wanted,
raising the average residential bill by $ 3.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
94 a month.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Instead of the $ 10. 24 that Pepco wanted. Montgomery County police
are dissolving their alcohol initiatives unit because of staffing shortages,
reassigning officers to traffic, crisis response, and school resource roles.
DUI enforcement will continue through task forces instead. And Labor

(11:23):
Day travelers should be bracing for higher costs. AAA says
that round-trip airfare is averaging about $ 750 with hotel prices increasing.
up 9% domestically and 12% abroad. Now, if you're hitting
the road, AAA says that Thursday morning is your best
bet to beat the traffic. Forecast today, partly sunny skies
with highs in the 90s, heat index close to 100.

(11:45):
Right now, 73 in Oakton.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
That's the news. Remember, you get top stories at the
top of the hour with Toby and Chili in the morning.
It is 97.1 Wash FM. How would you feel if
you went and you parked in a really prime spot
at the mall and some guy walked up and knocked
on your window and said, yeah, $ 10, please? Well, maybe
it's not $ 10, but there are some places where you
shop that are charging now for premium parking.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Thoughts?

Speaker 2 (12:10):
We're talking about it. Hang out. People who do retail
therapy on the regular, you might have noticed a trend
emerging at some of the places you like to go
and get said retail therapy, otherwise known as shopping. 97.1
Wash FM. We're totally chilling in the morning. There's been
a movement to charge people for prime parking spots. I mean, hey,

(12:32):
malls have to do what malls have to do to
make money and money's tight everywhere. But some people, when
they brought this idea a little bit closer to home
here in the DMV, weren't so thrilled about it.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Well, the mall in Columbia did put up what's called
preferred parking at 120 spots on August 3rd. This was
near main event and seasons 52. Wow. It was $ 2. 45
for the first hour and then up to $ 10. 45 for
the day. Here's what happened. Shoppers mostly ignored it and
just kept parking elsewhere. This past Friday, OK, all the
signs had come down and the once empty premium spots

(13:07):
were packed again. And the mall spokesperson says this is
just temporarily on pause while they find a better location
for it.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
I'll tell you when they're going to bring it back.
Christmas time. Specifically closer to Black Friday. That would make sense.
And they'll probably put it near an anchor store rather than, say,
like a food court where a lot of people drop
their kids off at food courts. A lot of people
enter a mall through a food court. I think if
you put this by, I don't know, whatever anchor store

(13:36):
is up there. I forget what it is. I think
it might be even a Bloomingdale's. Put it near that,
you know, and then call it a day. If you
want the close up close parking, you'll pay for it.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Somebody who would pay for that unless it was the holidays.
But you, on the other hand, I feel like you've
been a bit spoiled.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
I do at Tyson's.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
But even before my injury with the knee that gave
me a handicap parking pass on a temporary basis, I
will tell you that. Yeah, I mean, I like being close. Sure,
when that pass goes away, it's going to be a thing,
but I'll go back to what I used to do
at Tyson's, which was pay to park up close because
I didn't really want to be in the mall that long.
Guess we'll have to see how this all works out

(14:14):
in the future. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Read more. Toby
and Chili Page, WashFM.com, and hang out for just a
few because next we're going to talk about vacations and surprises.
As we wrap up the summer, what was it about
a vacation that pleasantly surprised you? Tell us all about
it at 866-927-4361. You're on M Street right now, maybe Wisconsin.

(14:37):
Proud of you for getting that workout in early this
morning in Georgetown. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Now you're ready
to go for the day. We're talking this morning, Chili
and I, about a place that you went on vacation
to that you kind of weren't looking forward to, but
maybe it surprised you. I think everybody has one of
these places, and if you want to tell us about
one in your world, tap that TalkBack microphone if you're

(14:59):
signed into your iHeart app and tell us everything about
your adventure. Chili, have you ever had a place like this?

Speaker 3 (15:05):
Last summer. Remember when I went to North Beach in Maryland? Now,
a lot of our listeners live there year round and
they commute into town. That's why I was in my
mind going, it's not going to really feel like a vacation, whatever. Oh,
was I wrong? So quaint right there on the Chesapeake.
Cute little mom and pop places, even a little casino.
That is why I was pleasantly surprised.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
I was pleasantly surprised by Smith Island.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
First of all, if you don't know about Smith Island,
Google it. All I'll say is this. There's only one
way to get there, and it's in the middle of
the Chesapeake. And the people who live there, there's not
many of them, but oh, they are great. I mowed
some neighbor's lawn of the woman whose house we Airbnb'd.
And if you get a chance to go, you should

(15:51):
Smith Island, home of the cake. Ellen Germantown, you say
you had one of these experiences in Montana. What made
it great for you?

Speaker 1 (15:59):
The people, I didn't expect the locals to be so friendly.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Yeah, tell us about your experience. We ended up getting
invited to a little family-owned restaurant and had one of
the best meals of the whole trip.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
That goes to your point earlier, Chili, about family-owned businesses
and small things that you can only find in certain
places and no place else. Thank you, Al. Stu and Warrington,
what vacation destination surprised you?

Speaker 5 (16:27):
I wasn't very excited about visiting New Orleans, but I
was surprised by how much I loved the city's energy
and charm.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Tell us about it.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
The live music, the amazing food and colorful French quarter
just made every day feel like an adventure. I ended
up having such a great time that I'm already hoping
to go back.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Great city, Mardi Gras, beads. You know about those beads, right?
Need the news? Top stories at the top of the hour,
right around 7.10 this morning. Chili, what can we expect?

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Football season is here, and a new survey finds when
fans like to start tailgating before a game. We've got
the latest on that coming up in just a few.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Another CD and Chevy Chase who has handled six things,
and it's not even 7 o'clock yet. Good for you.
It's 97.1 Wash FM. Would you like to handle a trip?
A trip to Philadelphia to go see Ed Sheeran?

Speaker 3 (17:21):
He'll be at Lincoln Financial Field September 19th, thanks to
our friends at AEG. You're shot at those tickets coming
up right after 2 p.m. Chili's Top Stories around 7-10
with our nearly impossible question.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
A new NASA telescope will soon be peering into space.
We've got the latest on that story and others on
the way. With Toby and Chili in the morning on
97.1 Wash FM.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Top stories, top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched yesterday morning aboard
a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Kennedy Space Center. The
observatory will spend about a month traveling roughly a million
miles from Earth, where it's expected to capture views of
over a billion galaxies and exoplanets.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Iran and the U.S.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Traded attacks yesterday. It's the first escalation in over a month.
Missiles fired into Jordan were intercepted with no reported damage.
The exchange followed U.S. strikes on Iran's Larrak Island, where
forces reportedly spotted Iranian units preparing to mine and rocket
the Strait of Hormuz. A mother and daughter from Alexandria
have died after a suspected DUI wrong-way crash on 270

(18:39):
in Bethesda Saturday night. Two others in their vehicle were hospitalized.
The driver of the other car, 32-year-old Jose Nolasco, faces
manslaughter and DUI homicide charges.

Speaker 1 (18:51):

Speaker 3 (18:51):
's smart composting program has hit a major milestone. Its
31 smart bins have now collected a million pounds of
compostable material, with nearly 10,000 residents signed up to use them.
The city plans to roll out 20 more bins this fall.
And a new survey finds that football fans start tailgating

(19:14):
about two and a half hours before kickoff. And as
for what folks are eating, burgers, hot dogs, chips, dips,
pulled pork, barbecue, and pizza top the list. Forecast for today,
we'll have partly sunny skies, the start of a heat wave,
highs in the 90s with a heat index close to 100.
Right now, though, it's 74 and only.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
What's that question?

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Retailers are already selling Halloween decor. Now Reese's is the
top Halloween candy. What's the second most favorite?

Speaker 2 (19:46):
All right. Call 866-927-4361 on this Monday morning. Get your
nearly impossible question right. Tickets Ed Sheeran, Philadelphia. Thanks AEG.
They're yours. Now you're going to have to get yourself there,
but if you want the tickets, you've got the question.
Call now, get it right, and you could win. Oh,
you missed it. Here's the question again.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Reese's is the top Halloween candy. What is the second
most favorite?

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Call now. Get it right. Ed Sheeran, Philadelphia. Tickets could be.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Yours.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
And what is the question today? Because some people might
have missed it. It's a Monday thing.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Summerween continues as retailers getting ready to sell Halloween decor. Now,
Reese's is the top Halloween candy, but we want to
know what's the second most favorite.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
866-927-4361 is the number. If you know the answer, you're
going to go see Ed Sheeran at the link in Philadelphia,
thanks to AEG. Good morning. What's your name and where
are you from?

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Lauren from Germantown.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Welcome, Lauren from Germantown. You heard the question from Chili Amar.
What is your guess?

Speaker 3 (20:52):
Okay, my guess is Snickers.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Snickers.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Excellent guess. It is a favorite, but unfortunately not number two.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
However, it really satisfies.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
That's true.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Well, thanks for playing. Try again tomorrow, okay?

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Thanks.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
And who is this? Where are you from? Hey, what's
going on? It's Chris calling from Manassas Park. Chris, good morning.
You've got the question from Chili Amar. What's your guest today?
I am going to go with a classic, M & M' s.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
Because they melt in your mouth, not in your hands.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Chris, I wish I could tell you that was the
right answer, but alas, it is not.

Speaker 4 (21:31):
It is not.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
No, no.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
All right.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Try again tomorrow so you can win these tickets, all right?

Speaker 4 (21:36):
All right, will do.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
And what is your name?

Speaker 4 (21:38):
Hi, I'm Lindsay, and I'm from Percival.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Hello in Percival, Lindsay. You've got the question. What's your guess?

Speaker 4 (21:45):
My guess is Kit Kat.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Do you love them?

Speaker 4 (21:47):
I like Kit Kats, but my favorite is Reese's.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Yeah, so Reese's, again, is number one. And according to
this survey.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Kit Kat is the second most favorite.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
That means you win, Lindsay.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Congratulations.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
Yay, thank you.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Going to see Ed Sheeran.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Philadelphia, thanks to AEG, a little road trip in your future.
So plan accordingly. Stock up on lots of your favorite candies.
Give me a break. Give me a break. You knew
today's answer was the Kit Kat bar. So enjoy the show.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
I really appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
We appreciate you more than you know. Thanks for listening
to us. Hang on so we can get some info
from you. More tickets. Ed Sheeran, Philadelphia tomorrow. Be here
around 7, 10-ish to play and win with your nearly
impossible question. And hang right there.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
It's Monday, so we've got a story we think will
make your Monday. A former Fairfax County substitute teacher started
a nonprofit that's quietly helping thousands of students in need.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Our things on 355 as you make your way over
to NIH to get your work on as we get
into this Monday. Good? I hope so. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
We're Toby and Chili in the morning, and this might
make it better. It's a story that we think might
just make your Monday. Years ago, Ron Fitzsimmons was a
substitute teacher teaching about Vernon High, and he spotted this

(23:06):
girl crying alone in the hallway. She couldn't afford a
ticket to prom, and so... he bought her one. Then
he started asking other colleagues and teachers, have you ever
done the same thing? And it turns out that quietly,
a lot of them have.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Well, and it was that moment that led Ron and
his sister, Laura, to start a nonprofit called Alice's Kids
back in 2011. The two of them grew up poor
on Long Island, and they remembered what it felt like
to miss out on things like Cub Scouts, field trips,
or any of those other big things that other kids
get to do just because they didn't have the money
for it.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
And that's why today, Alice's Kids were Submit requests when
there's a student that needs something like an instrument or
maybe a yearbook or new sneakers. And within a day
or two, the family gets a gift card. And the
kid never even knows that it came from charity.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Last year, the nonprofit helped about 14,000 children. And this year,
they expect to hit 20,000. And that is why we
chose what Ron, his sister Laura, and Alice's Kids is
doing as a story that really makes our Monday.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Because it preserves dignity. It helps kids to... live their
lives without worrying about some of these things which are expensive.
And it helps families too, because in a moment's notice,
what you think you have in the bank account may
not be what you think you have in the bank account.
Good stuff. It's a great story. Thank you. And by
the way, if you want to read more about this organization,

(24:29):
even support them, tell me in ChiliPage, washfm.com. It's 97.1
Wash FM Hangout for just a bit, because right around 8, 10,
We'll get you up to speed with the news. Top
stories at the top of the hour. What is going
on this morning, Chili?

Speaker 3 (24:43):
A new survey finds that one in four U.S. adults
are now part of what's called the sandwich generation. No,
it has nothing to do with food, but I will
explain in just a few.

Speaker 2 (24:55):
Oh, this is going to be an experience you don't
want to miss. Toby and Chili in the morning. It's
97.1 Wash FM. We're headed to Nats Park and we
would love for you to come with us.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Toby and Chili's VIP Nats Park experience. We're going to
be sitting behind home plate Saturday, September 12th, four o'clock
against the Angels.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
And you know, these are Terra Club seats. So you
know what that means? Free food, free drinks, free everything.
And you can have free tickets.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Just all you have to do is listen to Wash

that talkback microphone and leave the word Nats so you
can join us.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
So to recap, tap, speak and send your talkback microphone
saying Nats, Nats, I'm in. And we could be at
the ballgame together.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
Iran has struck back at U.S. forces in the Middle East.
We've got the latest on that story and others on
the way. With Toby and Chili in the morning on
97.1 WASH-FM.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Top stories, top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Iran has struck back at U.S. forces in the Middle East,
firing missiles into Jordan that were intercepted with no reported damage.
It was retaliation after American forces hit Iran's Laraq Island,
where they say Iranian units were preparing to mine and
rocket the Strait of Hormuz. A deadly flash flooding has
struck the Grand Canyon, leaving one person dead and as
many as 15 others missing. Floodwaters destroyed footbridges and forced

(26:32):
hikers and campers to evacuate. Two people have died after
a wrong-way crash on 270 South near Demacos Street Boulevard
on Saturday night when a Ford Mustang slammed head-on into
a Toyota Camry. The driver of the Mustang, 32-year-old Jose Nolasco,
faces manslaughter and DUI homicide charges. A Fairfax County daycare

(26:53):
worker facing charges after allegedly assaulting two young children. Police
say 61-year-old Wafa Abdallah pushed down a two-year-old boy and
struck another boy in the head at the Foss Creative
Education Learning Center in McLean Thursday. Prince George's County Public
Schools is shaking up its transportation department after a really
rough start to the school year left thousands of students

(27:14):
without bus assignments. Director Kiba Baldwin is stepping down and
Mark Fawcett is going to be taking over as acting
director to lead the transition. And according to a recent survey,
one in four U.S. adults are now part of the
sandwich generation. That's caring for an aging parent while also
raising kids. With Americans in their 40s hit the hardest. Now,

(27:34):
despite the added strain, those sandwiched adults actually report slightly
higher family satisfaction than everyone else. Forecast today, partly sunny skies,
highs in the 90s with the heat index close to 100.
Right now, 74 in Thurmont.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
That's the news with Toby and Tilly in the morning.
Top stories at the top of the hour for you
in Oakton. As you sit on 66 and maybe 123,
making your way into work thinking, why is the car
another member of my family? Well, you know, Tilly and
I feel like sometimes you are a member of our family.
And as such, if one of us were to pass

(28:10):
on If we were to tell you we wanted to
be buried with certain things, would you honor our request?
Dolly Parton had a request. We'll tell you what that
request was. And of course, we're going to talk about it.
So join us at 866-927-4361. I don't know if the
world is over the loss of Dolly Parton yet. 97.1

(28:31):
Wash FM. Toby and Chili in the morning. But it
was very, very sad last week when she was called
home to join Heaven's Choir. And now that new voice
is angelic. just like she was when she was alive
and you know we know now what she wants to
be buried with and in and on.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
Before she passed away she apparently told her family members
she wanted to be buried in her high heels and
laid to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
How do you think her husband laying next to her
where she's being laid to rest feels about that plush cotton?

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Oh, I think he's going to be happy that she's
with him. I don't think he's going to care. But
I love how she told people exactly what she wanted
because she loved them high heels.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
And what mama wants, mama's going to get.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
And if I were to make plans ahead like that,
I guess the only thing I'd want to be buried
with are the ashes of my dog. If my poor
Bella went before me. in her little urn.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
That way we can go together.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Oh, you'd be clutching it right there in the center.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
That's right. They could just place it right there.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
What about you?

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Well, chile i've given this a lot of thought oh
really when god calls me home i want to be
laid to rest wearing a darth vader mask with a
captain america shield and maybe even a thanos gauntlet just
for good measure come on Yes. And you know what?
At the funeral, it's going to be open casket because
I want all of you to see me one last time.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
We're not really going to be seeing you much. We're
just going to be seeing your costume.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
That's the point. You will gaze upon me in my
Darth Vader mask and you'll remember. Hey, Leslie, how are
things in Warrington this morning? Tell us, have you ever
seen or experienced somebody being laid to rest with something very,
very uncanny?

Speaker 4 (30:17):
A friend of ours had a family member that was
a huge Cubs fan. Of course, they were buried with
their various Cubs mementos.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Like what?

Speaker 4 (30:25):
There was a baseball hat, a cap course, a jersey.
I think they were probably wearing the jersey.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Mm-hmm. How did your family feel about that?

Speaker 4 (30:33):
They were fine with it. Holy cow!

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Now our lives are complete.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
The Cubs are number one.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
Oh, this is great news if you're on your way
to work in Bethesda right now and there's somebody in
your life who cannot wait for the new Grand Theft
Auto game to come out. It's 97.1 Wash FM.

your day today.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Before we say goodbye, Toby's got something he wants to
share with you to get you into a good morning mindset.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
Comes from Emily Dickinson this morning. Forever is composed of nows.
Forever is composed of nows. We spend too much time
in life waiting for a better time to do something.

Speaker 4 (32:16):
Why?

Speaker 5 (32:16):
Why?

Speaker 2 (32:18):
Why? The point is that this is the time. Your
life's not waiting somewhere in the future. Live it right
now on this seemingly ordinary Monday. It counts too. It's
97.1 Wash FM. Talk to you tomorrow.
